The MRCP Part 1 Exam
Tumblr media
What is the MRCP Part 1?
A candidate’s comprehension and knowledge of clinical sciences pertinent to medical practice and major disorders are assessed on the MRCP(UK) Part 1 exam to determine whether they are at a level suitable for admission to specialised training. This knowledge is essential for learning during postgraduate training to develop illness comprehension and treatment, as well as serving as a key foundation for clinical reasoning. Physicians who have worked as active physicians for at least a year are eligible to take the exam. It is a tool for determining if applicants have the medical knowledge required to proceed to the next stage of their training.Candidates must demonstrate a thorough mastery of each topic covered in the exam, which covers a wide range of subjects. While prior experience is required, candidates must also demonstrate that their comprehension of medical science has grown since graduating.
What are the differences between MRCP Part 1 & 2?
Numerous internal medicine-related topics are included in the MRCP Part 1 exam, including infectious diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, and haematology. Exam results are evaluated based on a candidate’s understanding of clinical sciences pertinent to medicine and common or serious conditions at a level suitable for admission to advanced specialty training. Internal medicine-related topics included in the MRCP Part 2 exam are more extensive and include clinical skills like communication and history-taking in addition to management, ethical, and legal topics.
Level of Difficulty: The MRCP Part 1 exam is regarded as a knowledge-based test that evaluates a candidate’s capacity to remember and utilise internal medicine-related facts and concepts. In general, people believe it to be easier than the MRCP Part 2 exam. The purpose of the MRCP Part 2 test is to evaluate a candidate’s capacity to integrate and apply information to complicated clinical scenarios. It is thought to be more difficult than the Part 1 exam.
Pictures: The MRCP Part 2 test includes multiple photos in both exams, whereas the MRCP 1 exam only consists of text-based questions.
Overall, although being written tests that evaluate a physician’s knowledge of internal medicine, the MRCP Part 1 and Part 2 differ significantly in terms of format, content, and difficulty. To succeed in their internal medicine jobs and adequately prepare for every exam, doctors must be aware of these distinctions.

Hi , first off congratulations on your mrcp! Its massive ! 😍 Wishing you more happiness and success.
So i am to embark on this same journey. I did my mbbs and residency in Pakistan and then cuz of some life circumstances had to take a break. Because of which i lost my connections as well so basically dont have a friend who i could ask this stuff.
I would be very grateful if you please guide me about these things
1. Is it true that i only need attested copy of my primary medical qualification for the application of mrcp1 ? The website doesn’t mention any other documents but dont they need proof of internship?
2. I am doing passmedicine questions and plan on doing pastest as well. I turn to other sources when i wana read more on the topic. Do you think there are any facebook groups etc that can be beneficial? Or should i just keep going.
3.Any other tips you want to give would be much appreciated
Thank you in advance. Love and prayers for you.
Hi, thank you and good luck to you!
I'm not sure. I think I remember sending a copy of my MBBS cert for part 1? But it may be different requirements for you if you're not working in the UK. I'd suggest emailing them to make sure.
I basically just used passmedicine and pastest for part 1 (and part 2), I didn't use any facebook groups. A mix of the two is definitely good because they have slightly different styles of questions. Keep doing questions and make notes on the stuff you get wrong/don't know - that's what I did anyway. Definitely make sure you do the official mock on the MRCP website at some point as that's the closest you'll get to the real thing https://www.mrcpuk.org/mrcpuk-examinations/part-1/part-1-sample-questions
Another tip I have is look at the breakdown for the number of questions for each topic, on this page https://www.mrcpuk.org/mrcpuk-examinations/part-1/format. This is how I decided which topics to spend more time on - no point stressing too much about learning all of ophthal when there's only going to be 4 questions on it! Prioritise the big topics. I would also suggest that at least at first, filter the questions on the question banks by one specialty at a time. That way, you will learn key concepts quicker because of the repetition. If you start by just doing all the topics in one go it'll be hard to focus on learning the concepts because it'll be overwhelming. So e.g. I'd do one day haematology, next day gastroenterology. Then later on, once you're more slick, do all the topics together.
Good luck!

Overview of MRCP UK Part 1
Tumblr media
MRCP(UK) Part 1 DETAIL DESCRIPTION seems to be related to the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) Part 1 examination in the United Kingdom. However, I do not have specific information or comprehensive details about this particular keyword.
The MRCP(UK) examinations are a series of assessments conducted by the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (RCP) to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and competencies of medical professionals seeking membership in the college. Part 1 of the MRCP(UK) examination focuses on the basic sciences relevant to clinical practice, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and microbiology.
To provide you with a more accurate and detailed description of the MRCP(UK) Part 1 examination, I recommend consulting the official website of the Royal College of Physicians or other reliable sources of information related to medical education and examinations in the United Kingdom.
The MRCP UK Part 1 exam is the first of three examinations required to obtain the Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) qualification in the United Kingdom. It is a written examination that covers a range of topics in medicine, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine.
The exam is held twice a year, in January and July, and consists of two papers. Paper A is a multiple-choice question (MCQ) paper consisting of 200 questions, and Paper B is a written paper consisting of 10 short-answer questions.
To be eligible to sit the MRCP UK Part 1 exam, candidates must have completed a medical degree from a recognized university and have completed at least two years of foundation training in the UK.
The pass mark for the MRCP UK Part 1 exam is 50% in each paper. Candidates who pass both papers will be awarded the MRCP UK Part 1 certificate and will be eligible to progress to the MRCP UK Part 2 exam.
