M:FANS, John Cale (2016)
A revisitation of one of my favourite ever John Cale works (1982’s Music for a New Society) should, in theory, be easy to enjoy. However, while within M:FANS are some phenomenally fascinating ideas – from warping one’s own past and commenting upon it to reworking emotional responses to suit contemporary events (in this case, the death of Lou Reed) – I don’t get much out of it. Cale’s reworks are a little opaque; none are better in their execution, grander in their ambition or more powerful in their sensitivity than their originals.

“What are we even doing?” Marshall groaned as he leaned onto the kitchen island and watched the display in front of him. “A tik tok, uncle.” Alaina replied, rolling her eyes whilst he only sighed in response. “What’s a tik tok?” Marshall whispered into your ear as you moved to settle beside him.
You could only giggle at him. He really was too adorable for your own good. “Some video site thing.” You babbled. “Oh, so you don’t even know.” Marshall couldn’t help but tease you; his laughter sounded out. Hailie caught this all on camera as she watched the scene with softness. Her father was finally happy.
“Are we ready?” Stevie asked as they moved into the kitchen with the tortillas in hand. You could only giggle at how ridiculous this was. “Hmm, do you want me to film?” You asked, moving around the island. “No..no, I want you in this.” Alaina hummed and brought the phone up to record it herself.
You softly blushed, ducking your head for a moment. You had worried once upon a time if you would be accepted into the close family but all that had changed. You missed Marshall softly smiling to himself. You reached for the water bottle as your group moved into a circle. Marshall as ever being slow.
He huffed and moved to stand as you all took a sip of some water. You looked over to him and already began to giggle. “Okay, so we are recording now.” Alaina announced as you moved into place. You weren’t sure who was going first but your question was answered when Stevie hit you on the cheek.
You held the water in, thankfully. You didn’t want to lose so early on as you faux glared at them. Alaina was giggling in the background as you moved to slap Hailie’s cheek; gently though. You knew Marshall wouldn’t have wanted to hit his girls but you didn’t know that he wasn’t too keen on hitting you either; even if it was a game.
The moments ticked by in silence as you prepared for the hit that didn’t come. Hailie seemed to see the tension and hit her father’s cheek. He didn’t even move and the water didn’t spill but it was enough for Hailie to laugh out loud and spill her water. It was enough distraction for Marshall to finally tap your cheek with the smallest of hits.
You hadn’t expected it and the water fell from you as you loudly began to giggle. “What? I wasn’t ready.” You cried to him with a pout. Marshall only chuckled and moved to spit the water out. “Ugh, I guess he won then.” You muttered and moved to take Alaina’s phone so she could join in and be recorded.

Y/N, Eminem and his children were seen doing the latest social media craze in their kitchen with amusing results.

Marshall’smathers It was so sweet! I wonder what Y/N had to promise for Marshall to allow this to be published.
“I can’t believe I agreed to this.” You whispered; blushing sweetly as you stepped into the recording studio. “I can’t be the only one hearing your lovely voice, can I?” Marshall hummed as he thankfully had the recording room emptied and it was just the two of you. You began to chew on your bottom lip as you tried to stop your nerves from growing.
“You are biassed though.” You hummed as the music of his new song began to start. “Maybe.” Marshall smirked but knowing you had a voice of an angel. “You shouldn’t have had Hailie upload the video then.” He teased and watched you move the lyrics around to buy yourself some time.
“Come on Y/N.” Marshall chuckled even more as he watched you read from the paper again. “You already know it.” He teased and settled down on the sofa; his legs spread as ever and the view only had you more hot and bothered. You rolled your eyes and turned towards the mic and hopefully it would be over soon.
You didn’t realise Marshall subtly recording you as you began to softly sing. You began to grow in confidence as the familiar words came over you. It wasn’t long before you were actually enjoying yourself whilst trying hard to not mess up. All the while he watched with a soft smile on his face before updating his story with you. It was payback but also he wanted to show off your talent.
