While in the previous iteration of the series, the flashlight was used to uncover ghosts that had turned invisible, as part of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, an important addition was made to the player’s arsenal in the form of the Strobulb. After charging the Strobulb and releasing it, a bright flash of light is released, briefly stunning any ghosts in its path and making them capable of being damaged by the Poltergust 5000. This change in approach allows the ghosts to be more aggressive and encounters to be more quick and hectic, as the player is no longer limited to searching via their flashlight, but also needs to perfect the timing of their Strobulb’s flashes to complete each combat encounter.

In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Professor E. Gadd often comments on Luigi's cowardice in order to urge him to perform certain actions, but usually in a playful manner. However, there is one type of scenario where he will get legitimately angry at Luigi and yell at him or call him various insults.

In some of the boss missions (top three images: A-Boss, bottom three images: C-Boss), Luigi has the ability to try to open up doors in the area that do not lead to the boss battle. This will cause E. Gadd to call Luigi and urge him to face the boss. If Luigi continues to try to escape, E. Gadd will call him again, each time getting more agitated.
