Caleb purses his lips. “Essek's tower was the first of his many ambitious and successful arcane projects. It seems that the only way to bring the more organic aspects of the tower was for Essek to invest his own consciousness in the process. While I cannot imagine what it must feel like from your perspective, the magical fact of the matter is that here in this place, he is always present.”

“That explains a lot,” Lucien mutters. "Shit. Minds can be changed by force in adulthood—but that has a specific feel to it. This is different; it feels organic, which is a sure sign he grew up like this.”

Caleb is fascinated. “That is certainly possible. He is a true prodigy, the most talented mage I have had the privilege of meeting. I have always had so many questions about his bond with this place, but he does not share much about the tower. What is it like?”

"He feels different than he did in Kostheim. His presence here is altered, or maybe my perception of his presence and the tower’s presence is muddled up together.”

“He is a complicated man; here in this place, he is even more so.” He gives Lucien a stern look. “Perhaps you now understand why it is so unnerving for him to have us here."

ok more thoughts - already said: biologist/ghostbird yasha, she could maybe be a botanist in this though, and she knows that zuala disappeared into area x before. beau in the role of Control, new to the reach and extremely focused on investigating and researching everything. my other thought is - i dont know who the ex-director would be, or the assistant director.. can consider caleb for either but then im rly not sure who the other role would be, not that it needs to be one-for-one though. 

also. molly/lucien as lowry.. . . the first expedition was basically the tombtakers and they saw the things control is shown on the vhs. . . 

and other thought i like - cad as a mycologist that works in the reach but specifically with spore samples but then other samples in general (since there are staff shortages lol) in the ‘cathedral’, and perhaps he’s been in area x, and perhaps might form a portal into the reach.. ... .  however, cad becoming a strange inverted home or temple or wildmothers lighthouse (?!) in area x, scrawling wildmother-bible verses on the walls in lichen . .

Molly- wrist so Caleb can do stimmy hand things with the spade. Good for Caleb and it makes the tail nerves go brrr.

Lucien- thigh. He likes to start at an acceptable position and just slowly curl his way upwards if he’s being particularly bratty. Attention whore.

Mighty Nein Next Gen AU, Part One

Hey, I wrote this AU a couple months back and I'm working on writing more of this AU but here are some notes I have about our Mighty Nein as parents and backstory for the AU

Masterlist for the whole AU (will continuously be updated):

MOLLY AND KINGSLEY ARE BOTH ALIVE IN THIS AU

So, Molly NEARLY dies due to Lorenzo but survives with death saves but, later on in the game, Cree or Vess DeRogna or a new member of the Tomb Takers (necromancer?) cast Clone.

Due to the nature of clone and the spell description, it says "if the original creature dies, its soul transfers to the clone" So Lucien comes back in that body.

Fight me, my AU bitch

Anyway, when they defeat Lucien later on a spirit gets stuck in that body and we get Kingsley Tealeaf

Anyway, more of the fun stuff and actually important part of the Alternate Universe/later timeline

Fjord and Jester have a giant, elaborate wedding at the Lavish Chateau after sailing for a few years

Jester always wanted a big wedding, due to the fact she is a giant romantic and was upset her mother never had a wedding originally (Marion is happy now just dating The Gentleman but she did tell Jester as a kid she hoped Jester would have one for her)

Cad walked Fjord down the isle because they are Wildmother Brothers

TJ was the ring bearer and Luc was the flower boy because he deserves it, he picked those flowers with Uncle Cad, dang it

Fjord and Jester give the ship to Kingsley and move in with Marion and The Gentleman

Fjord and Jester have four kids, three triplet girls and a baby boy eight years later

Now for the most important part: Artagan fucking with Fjord during the pregnancy

They find out because Artie is laying in bed with them and casually goes "congrats on the triplets, you two"

Cue Fjord going unconscious

Jester and Artie have a babyproofing session that is off the walls useless

They babyproof the knives by putting bubblewrap on the handles

They also flip the doors upside down (because, to quote Artagan, "the handles are higher up now so they can't reach") but since the doors have glass on the upper parts, Fjord has broken several doors by accidently kicking the glass

Fjord and Jester also name their kids off of the most important people to them (family/friends)

Artagan takes them (and later the rest of the Nein) on family vacations to the feywild

He also gives all of Jester's kids feywild titles and familiars (that start off as plushies but eventually come to life)

Artagan also has a nasty habit of kid- babysitting his nieces and nephew, taking them to Feywild Court Stuff, where they get pampered like royalty

I wanna have a whole post dedicated to the BS the triplets go through during birth but, to simplify, due to the bloodline one of them nearly dies at birth but was saved by Artagan and, as a return, they name the baby after him

All three of the triplets are warlocks for Artagan

Also, the baby boy is a cleric of The Wildmother, more on that later :)

Mollymauk, Caleb, and Essek are in a polycule (all wear promise rings but never wanted to get married)

They own several homes, one each in Nicodranus, Rexxentrum, and Rosohna

Caleb and Essek are both academics with research grants and college professors/government officials, they have the money to live luxuriously

This also gives Caleb and Molly the ability to work at Veth's summer camp during the summer

Essek is also AFAB, Demiboy in this AU (Matt has been using they/he lately so I'm guessing that's the case anyway)

This is my way of saying, Essek get's pregnant and is trying to hide it at Fjord and Jester's wedding

They have a baby girl (biologically Essek and Caleb's kid) exactly ONE DAY before Veth gives birth to her second kid (more about this later but safe to say she was livid)

The baby is just as magic driven as her parents, loving the study of it

But also loves tarot cards from Momma Molly

Molly a couple years later finds a little one abandoned in Rosohna and adopts them

It's a few weeks later, when having a fit, they find out she is an aasimar

Molly and Verin teach the aasimar kid (I cant think of a name, help) how to swordfight

essek x molly x caleb

while molly enjoys being with both caleb and essek, they won't participate in anything unless they're asked. and it's not that they don't want to participate, it's because they feel as though they're the addition to what seemed an already perfect relationship and they don't want to offset the balance. molly worries often that they will mess something up, but with reassurance and permission, they become more comfortable (not that this polyamorous relationship is uncomfortable or anything either, he just likes caleb and essek a lot that they don't want to fuck anything up).

molly is the big spoon, caleb is the middle spoon, essek is the little spoon, molly has decided.

essek x molly:

molly is a worry wart. especially after their return to life from lucien. they learned from jester and beau what happened in aeor and is honestly terrified that they may cause essek some sort of discomfort or ptsd event. for a long time, molly was worried about touching him because he wasn't sure how essek felt about him afterwards. but once they were reassured that everything was okay, molly began to be a little more physical with their affection.

essek wears the pants in this relationship. molly tests those boundaries often.

caleb x molly

caleb has taught molly all the best grounding techniques when it comes to their anxiety and what not. he helps him through his panic attacks or his dissociative points and is always there to help them feel normal again after what feels like hours of agony.

caleb always has a cup of tea in hand. he doesn't know how he gets it or when he gets it, but he knows it's always the perfect temperature, perfect flavor/boldness/sweetness, and in his favorite mug. it's molly's best kept secret of attention diversion and placement.

The battle with Lucien had taken it's toll on all of them but Caleb had felt a deeper and more turbulent whirlwind of emotions that he had had to keep contained within him through it all.

Caduceus had managed to resurrect the body but Caleb didn't know who or what they were going to be.

So later on, when the others were talking about Molly at the Grove, he excused himself to be alone under the pretence of wanting and needing to sleep. Caleb couldn't bear to be in a room with the others and needed to be alone. And so he had gone to a quiet bedroom and sat down on the edge of the bed.

Once he knew he was all along, Caleb finally allowed himself to break down. All the emotions and feelings and grief he had been forced to keep contained for so long spilling out in silent waves. Hot tears streaming down his cheeks. The wizard almost choked on them when the door to the room suddenly opened and Caleb sat upright with wide, reddened and tear filled eyes as the Tiefling stepped inside.

Not breathing the entire time as the other moved closer. Caleb's lower lip wavering as the emotions that were caught beneath the surface temporarily tried to burst through.

As the purple skinned Tiefling came before him, the wizard felt as if breath would evade him for ever. So when the other climbed into his lap and wrapped their arms around him, the dam finally burst once more and Caleb broke down again. A loud sob escaping as he wrapped his arms firmly around the Tiefling and buried his head against his shoulder.
