Warnings: talk of murder, smoking, bloody knife
Chucky lounged on the couch, all too pleased with himself. I paced in front of him, trying to keep my hands away from my hair. Every time I was about to, I saw the blood on my hands and shuddered.
“chucky what are we going to do?” I whined, turning towards him. He raised an eyebrow at me as he blew smoke away from me. “Come on chucky! We killed Tiffany!” Chuckling, chucky leaned forward and waved his finger between us.
“we don’t kill anyone.” He emphasized. “You killed Tiffany.” Leaning forward, I pointed at his face.
“the blood on your face says different Charles.” I groaned. Flopping down on the couch, chucky reached over and put his hand on my thigh. “What do we do?” He rubbed circles with his thumb.
“first things first we clean up.” He helped me up and led me towards the bathroom. “Here.” Chucky gently rinsed my hands before grabbing the soap. I watched him in the mirror as he scrubbed them, making sure to get all the blood off. “What are you staring at?” He teased, looking up briefly to catch me staring at him.
“You’ve never been this…” I trailed off, nervous about what he’d say if I actually finished the thought. Chucky laughed and squeezed my soapy hands.
“sweet?” He finished. “Is that the word you were just going to use?” I blushed and nodded. He hummed as he finished washing up my hands. Grabbing the towel under the sink, he dried them off. “You’re in shock. And we don’t have as much time as I would like.” Chucky said softly. “Besides, it’s your first kill. It can be a lot. I’m both proud of you and I’m a little pissed about it.” I tensed slightly. “Not at you. She shouldn’t have gotten in the way. That’s on her. Tiffany was always a dumbass bitch. It was a matter of time. Either I was going to do it or some other poor asshole who she found herself entangled with.” Chucky turned away to run the towel under water before cleaning the blood off his face.
“so what do we do now?” I asked, starting to shake. I wrapped my arms around my waist and tried to hold myself together. Chucky noticed and came over to hug me.
“we get rid of the knife.” He whispered. “But after you calm down a bit.” Kissing my cheek, chucky swayed with me.
“you’re being too nice. It’s unnerving.” I mused, leaning into him a little. Chucky snorted and held me tighter.
“more unnerving than what you just did?” He teased. I shook my head. “Then just accept it. It happens occasionally.” I laughed and turned in his embrace to hug him back. “Feeling better?”
“Slightly.” I answered. Chucky kissed my forehead.
“I’ll take care of the knife. Get ready for bed. I’ll be back soon.” He gently pushed me towards our room.
“where are you going?” I asked as I pulled one of his shirts out of the dresser.
“the lake. No one would find it there.” Kissing me gently, he grabbed the knife off the counter. “I’ll clean that up later. Just get some rest. Won’t take me long.” I nodded and curled up under the covers.
“ok. Chucky?” I called softly. He turned towards me.
“yeah?” I blushed slightly at the look he was giving me.
“love you.” I whispered. He smiled softly and nodded.
“yeah.” Shaking his head, he turned to leave. “Love you too doll face.”

Wrong Flask
Summary: Self-explanatory title, Garreth was supposed to hand you a flask of his Fizzing Whizzbeer, but accidentally gave you firewhisky instead. No smut, just cute fluff.
“One should always be drunk. That's all that matters...But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk.”
― Charles Baudelaire, Paris Spleen
It was a quiet day at Hogwarts, with the sun breaking through the last remnants of a dying storm. The breeze held the first delectable hints of summer as the air grew warmer. After having been cooped up in the castle all week, its residents were eager to laze around the grounds, visit Hogsmeade, or catch a flight on their broomsticks, if only to feel the sun dance on their skin. Consequently, the castle was mostly empty, save for those who prefer the rare solace of a vacant dormitory. Garreth Weasley was one of them.
He could finally work on his Fizzing Whizzbeer in peace without Leander or Natty constantly chastising him over his shoulder. The cauldron bubbled furiously beside an open window while Garreth carefully fanned the red smoke. He didn't want to mess with the flame, but the last time he let his concoctions fester, all of Gryffindor Tower ended up reeking of spoiled milk and burnt hair. None of his fellow housemates allowed him to sleep there for a week.
But his potion was just about done. All it needed was the slightest pinch of ground billywig stings. Garreth's hand shook as he held it over the potion's curdling surface. Too much or too little, and months of hard work would be sent down the drain. He rubbed his thumb and forefinger the slightest bit, letting the faintest dust of powder escape his touch, and – POOF!
The potion instantly turned from burgundy red to fuchsia pink, releasing a small sparkling cloud of the same hue. He’d done it! He had finally done it! Garreth did a little celebratory jig, his foot bumping the table and nearly sending the cauldron a-tumbling.
“She needs to see this,” he muttered excitedly, scooping a generous portion into a silver flask.
“GARRETH WEASLEY!”
With a surprised jolt, Garreth quickly emptied his cauldron and vanished any remaining evidence with a mad flourish of his wand before whirling around to come face to face with his aunt.
“Good morning, Aunt Matilda,” he grinned sheepishly, hoping with all hope she didn’t see him stow the silver flask in his pocket.
Professor Weasley sighed. “It’s late afternoon already, but I suppose you wouldn’t have noticed. What hare-brained scheme are you up to now, Garreth?”
“Nothing,” he replied quickly, his throat bobbing as he swallowed guiltily.
Rubbing the bridge between her brows, Professor Weasley had half a mind to inquire further. But if the dormitory didn’t smell, and nothing was on fire this time. Perhaps she could let it go. Just this once. “Go join your friends, child, before I change my mind.”
"Yes, ma'am." She didn't need to tell him twice. He was gone before she looked up. By the time Garreth found his fellow fifth years, he had forgotten entirely about the flask in his pocket.
“Crikey, Weasley’s actually left the castle!” Nellie gaped from where she lounged by the lake, the shade of the tree overhead dancing around her face.
“Someone pinch me,” smirked Duncan. “Ow! I didn’t mean it literally, Nellie!”
“Where’s Lee?” asked Garreth, ignoring their jabs as he settled on the grass next to Natty.
She turned the page of her book and, without looking up, replied, "Off on some stupid dare with Sallow and Clopton.”
“It’s not stupid,” Leander said as he approached, flanked by Sebastian and Everett. Natty looked them up and down, ready to retort, but decided against it. She returned to her book with a dismissive roll of her eyes.
“What did you lot have him do this time?” asked Garreth.
Sebastian crossed his arms and leaned against the tree. “We simply tested Prewett’s bravery the old-fashioned way. Steal liquor from the Hog’s head. And wouldn’t you know it? The bastard actually did it.”
Leander frowned. “You can have a little more faith in me, you know.”
“Did you swipe enough?” The devilish grin on Everett’s face grew slightly. He caught the silver flask before it hit his face. “Yes!”
“Here’s one for you, Gaz.”
Another silver flask landed on Garreth’s lap, and in a blink of an eye, he was back on his feet. The others stared at him in surprise.
“Shit! I almost forgot!" And just like that, he raced back towards the castle, disappearing in a mad rush of black robes and red hair
“He could’ve at least given it back,” Sebastian muttered with a shake of his head.
When he found you, Garreth was panting and out of breath. Curse the founders. The astronomy tower didn’t need so many steps! His footsteps were heavy on the wooden staircase, alerting you and Amit to his presence.
“Garreth?” you asked worriedly.
He rested his palms on his knees, his lungs gasping for air. “I’ve…finished…it,” he wheezed, fishing out a silver flask from his robes.
Amit grimaced. “Not again.” He scrolled up his star chart and collected his ink and quill. “We can finish this another time. But I’d rather not be here for this.” Your quizzical eyes followed him as he darted around Garreth and made his swift escape.
All the better for Garreth. If he was being honest, he enjoyed your company. Alone. He held out the flask invitingly. “It’s my Fizzing Whizzbeer. I promised you’d be the first to try.”
You opened the flask and sniffed it gingerly. It smelled… spicy. “Is it safe?” you glanced up cautiously, giving the flask a tentative swirl.
Garreth nodded enthusiastically. “Chug it!”
“Well, if you say so…” With a deep breath, you brought the flask to your lips and threw your head back, downing the beverage in one go. Gulp after gulp, it felt like liquid flame setting your body aglow with spicy, smooth warmth. It tasted nothing like the candy that inspired it. But whatever this was, it tasted delicious. Perhaps an acquired taste, but delicious, nonetheless.
“Well?” Garreth asked, waiting for the levitating to occur. “How is it?”
You blinked. The room began to spin, and you threw a hand out to steady yourself. Something was wrong. Terribly wrong. But with your senses dulled, there was no way for you to tell. You just felt funny and warm all over.
“It feels g-good,” you hiccupped, clutching Garreth’s robes before stumbling into him.
“Oh no,” his heart sank. “This wasn’t supposed to happen…”
He grabbed the flask from your hand and brought it to his nose. Firewhisky. He accidentally gave you the wrong flask. If his aunt found out, he'd never hear the end of it. Thankfully, she never ventured up this far. And if she did, he could hear her incoming footsteps.
"I should get you some water," he made to leave, but when he released you, one of your legs buckled. You grabbed onto the nearby steel railing for support, and Garreth cursed. He gently took hold of one of your elbows, his other hand flying to your hip to ease you clumsily onto the floor. "On second thought, let's sit here for a bit, shall we?"
With a nod, you rested your forehead against the cool railing, savoring the feel of the spring wind that whipped your hair. It felt delicious against the rapidly growing heat of your body. Garreth looked you up and down worriedly with a gnaw of his inner cheek. And when he took in your flushed skin, your closed eyes as you enjoyed the dying sunlight and snappy wind on your serene face, guilt raced through his being before settling heavily on his shoulders.
With a frustrated sigh, he ran his hands down his face. “What is wrong with me?” he muttered. At the sound of soft chuckling, Garreth looked up to find your eyes fixed on his.
“You want to know what’s wrong with you, Garreth?” you smiled lazily. “We can start with how careless you can be sometimes.”
“Um… thanks?”
Your smile grew wider. "You're smart but easily distracted. Once an idea gets into your head, you never let it go. Not until you've tried it. It's quite adorable, really."
Exactly how strong was that firewhisky? You were usually less chatty. You've never looked at him this way before, either. Hungry. As if you desired him somehow. His palms began to sweat, and Garreth averted his eyes, fixing them onto the pink and purple skies as the sun’s descent welcomed the twinkle of stars. The last of its beams speared through mountain peaks, bathing everything in the valley with its fiery glow.
“You’ve got the most beautiful eyes,” you spoke softly now, in a hushed tone that seemed more reverent than shy. “Has anyone ever told you that? Like rustling meadows in the summer.”
At that, Garreth couldn’t stop the bark of laughter. “No. Never,” he replied. “I’m beginning to think you’re flirting with me.”
He meant it as a joke to brush off your comments. But he didn't expect you to retort with, "Have been for a while now, but thanks for noticing." His heart somersaulted before pounding relentlessly against his chest. Did this mean…? "Yes, I've liked you for some time now," you continued, sitting up to watch the sunset. "But you don't seem to like me back. Not in that way, at least. That's another thing wrong with you. You're so terribly dense."
A frown tugged at your lips as you swayed. It wasn't like you to be this honest. But something about that brew made you feel light. Carefree. As if nothing mattered in the world. You could say anything or do anything, and right now, you wanted to tell him how you feel. How you've felt since the day you laid eyes on him… even if he didn't like you back, you've said your piece, consequences be damned. Garreth’s silence should have worried you, but you found you didn’t care. Your nerves sang with that uplifting warmth, and nothing could bother you. Nothing could touch you.
Until you felt a trembling hand splay over yours, a thumb timidly rubbing your knuckles. Your head snapped up to find Garreth looking pointedly away. But the neck and ears that peeked out from his wild hair had bloomed into a furious blush. And so very faintly, underneath the howling wind that whipped through the tower, you almost didn’t hear him when he said, “I like you too.”
You giggled, blushing furiously as your heart soared. You could’ve ripped it out your chest and chucked it off the tower, and it would’ve flown up with the streaming gale. High, high above the castle towers, into the clouds beyond.
"I didn't catch that," you teased, soft peals of mirthful laughter escaping your lips as you brought a hand up to your mouth. "Could you repeat that?"
With a sidelong glance, Garreth huffed indignantly. “You heard what I said.”
You shook your head and scooted closer, resting a head on his shoulder. Dizzy from the drink, from the revelation he shared your affections, from his hand that never left yours. “I thought Gryffindors were supposed to be brave,” you pouted, batting your lashes at him coquettishly.
But the pout of your lips pulled the entirety of Garreth’s focus. They were plump and tempting, mere inches away from his. Lips he had spent countless daydreams on, fantasizing the feel of it against his tongue, his teeth. The silence and tension lay thick and heavy, as heavy as the curtain of dusk as night drew ever closer.
His voice strained but laced with want, cut through the silence as he said, "Earlier, you told me I never let an idea go, not until I've tried it." His throat bobbed as he cupped your face, your skin underneath his fingers tingling with excitement. "I… I want to try kissing you now. May I?"
He shouldn’t have asked. You were inebriated, your inhibitions broken down by the liquid fire churning in your body. But so was he. Drunk off the very scent and sight of you. Drunk off the magnificent eyes that threatened to devour him whole. And he’d let you. He’d let you have him any way you wished, any time you wanted.
“Yes,” you whispered, leaning closer, his soft breath ghosting your lips as you closed your eyes. Finally, after all this time pining, wanting… you were so close to finally getting a taste…
“Hey Gaz, if you weren’t going to drink that firewhisky, Sallow wanted me to – oh my!” Leander gasped.
And just like that, his interruption sobered you up like a bucket of ice-cold water. You turned away from Garreth with embarrassment and shame as he got on his feet to hurl the empty flask at Leander's head.
"Get. Out." He hissed venomously, bristling with equal shades of embarrassment and frustration. His friend always had shit timing, but Garreth was so close! So frustratingly close. Now the moment was ruined.
Leander stopped the flask in its path with his wand before shoving it inside his pocket. “Trust me, I won’t breathe a word,” he said before he tucked his tail and ran.
With an exasperated sigh, Garreth pulled you up to your feet. “Let’s get you back. You need food and water.”
Your heart sank. Did he… did he not want to kiss you anymore? Your downcast eyes fell on your shoes as you refused to look him in the eye until you felt a soft kiss on your temple. You looked up at him questioningly, taking in the furrow of his brows as he anxiously shifted his weight from one leg to the other.
“I still want to kiss you,” he said, eyes darting to your lips. “But not when you’re drunk.”
“So when?” This was your chance, and you didn’t want to let it go.
Garreth ran a nervous hand through his hair. "Let me court you the right way. Take you out to Hogsmeade. I do owe you for accidentally getting you drunk."
And with a bright smile, you said, “It’s a date!”

part 1 || part 2
On a summer’s day, the undeniable truth of a cat lay between the dirt path and the open cottage door swinging softly with rusty hinges. You curled in yourself and held a gentle smile as the warmth of the sun bathed you. Adults and children alike in Springvale knew better than to disturb a lounging kitten.
But the jingling laughter of young boys from another village was oblivious to the unspoken rule.
“They must be brothers,” you thought. With their matching wooden sticks acting as a sword and hands clasped together as if one was afraid to lose the other, it was a definite conclusion.
“I told you, ‘luc! Kittens are afraid of water.” The blue-haired boy noted your distance from the lake.
You pushed yourself up from the grass and frowned. “I’m not afraid of anything!”
“We’re sorry for interrupting your nap.” The boy with red locks stepped forward. “I’m Diluc and this is my brother, Kaeya.”
“You sound just like a true knight!” Kaeya’s eye sparkled with delight. “Would you like to join the Ordo Favonius with us, kitten?”
“Well, yes.” You puffed your cheeks. “But under one condition… Please don’t call me that!”
A simple answer tied the strings of friendship together into a pretty bow, one that was soon to be undone.
Seasons changed and people left without goodbyes, leaving the winery shrouded in looming shadows and dark clouds. It was as if Celestia above mourned the late master of Dawn Winery – attempting to wash away the sins and tears of the brothers with an onslaught of rain.
But the sun was bound to shine through some day.
The gaggles of the City of Freedom sang harmoniously with laughter and the secrets of loose lips fell soundly due to the infamous Angel’s Share specialty, wine.
In the case of Captain Kaeya, he fancied himself a glass of Death After Noon that was filled a little too close to the brim. He was perched on the bar stool, leaving an open seat next to him, waiting for company.
Hushed voices knew only people from a list – a short one at that – could occupy the spot. It included the mysterious nun of the cathedral, a toneless bard requesting apples in exchange for a fine tune, and… you.
“How generous of you to reserve me a seat, sir,” you commented before joining Kaeya.
He toed your stool closer to him and exchanged quiet, shaky sighs. With you pulled close around his arms, Kaeya drank in your scent after slowly forgetting it over the many years you spent living in a different nation.
You felt light kisses on your skin, a welcomed sensation on your temples.
“I’m here, Kae.” You gently tugged on his ponytail. “I see you’ve kept your hair long.”
“Well enough about me.” Kaeya sniffled and graced you with a smirk of what many interpreted as mischievousness, but you saw it as a sign of genuine mirth. “Congrats on your promotion!”
You nodded in appreciation. “How about we celebrate today and tomorrow? One day dedicated to a promotion party and another for my return.”
“You’re starting to sound like me.” Kaeya cradled his drink. “One glass for General y/n of Inazuma, Charles!”
The late night’s ruckus dwindled from the laughter of Angel’s Share to quiet giggles between you and Kaeya as patrons trudged past the door. Leaving the bar with drunken smiles.
With the bubbling happiness from the lively company and conversations alike, you almost missed Kaeya’s lithe fingers fumbling with a familiar parchment. The wax seal with the electro insignia was barely creased as if it was opened with hesitation.
Your eyes flitted up to him. “Did you get a chance to read my letter before I arrived?”
“I did… eventually.”
You encouraged him to continue.
“Y/n… I was afraid something had happened to you. Especially with the dirty business of the Vision Hunt Decree.”
You opened your mouth to promise Kaeya that all was well, but was immediately interrupted.
“But apparently it was just a love letter filled with your words of undying love for me! You were even bold enough to invite yourself to my bedroom.”
The Ragvindr brothers hated to admit they had a handful of things in common. One of them is their sensitivity to the subject of loss.
You played along by lightly smacking his arm. “Correction. I asked if I could crash at your place for a few days, so I wouldn’t have to spend mora at the Goth Grand Hotel. You knew how expensive a ticket was for the Crux Fleet!”
“‘Course I’d know!” Kaeya tapped his leather eyepatch. “I’m a pirate after all!”
“Well you should also know I’m no pirate, so I don’t hold in alcohol as well as you.”
He tipped his wine glass back to finish the drink. “Pft! You were always a lightweight when all three of us sampled Father’s wine while he was away for business trips.”
Your hand twitched on the counter at the sudden mention of his late father. Kaeya excelled in many things and prided himself on that. But quiet moments of reminiscing his childhood spent with you and the family that abandoned him, or he ran away from – which one, you wouldn’t know – was past his usual forte.
After the passing of Master Crepus and the incline of Fatui infiltrations, your parents deemed it fit to raise you within the Nation of Eternity. No words were exchanged between you and Kaeya, only faint smiles and a wave as you boarded a ship.
And even less with Diluc, without his presence during your departure.
Kaeya cleared his throat and offered his hand. “It’s becoming awfully humid in here. How about a stroll in the quiet night?”
You bid Charles goodnight and requested to put the drinks on Kaeya’s tab with a cheeky grin on your face before intertwining your fingers with his.
Kaeya was clearly unbothered by the slight chill, luckily the alcohol kept you warm enough. As well as the company by your side.
“By the way… You neither approved nor rejected my stay at your place.”
“I’ve become quite a favorite among the grannies of this town. I’d break their hearts if I allowed such a thing.” His blue eye sparkled brighter in the low light. “And what say you to sleeping next to one of the most wanted bachelors of Mondstadt?”
You grinned playfully. “And who’s the other? Must be Master Diluc–”
Kaeya’s steps halted at the name he’d dreaded to hear from your lips. “Why do you ask?”
The sudden shift of his tone forced your gaze to the unreadable expression he adorned. One you’ve not seen since the night that soaked your bones in rain and the Ragvindr brothers in blood.

SEVEN DAYS IN MAY (1964, John Frankenheimer)
Enjoy paranoid political thrillers? This is a definitive classic.
Weird stuff going on with the boys over at the Pentagon. Something to do with a huge-scale, joint armed forces exercise that will take place next weekend when the POTUS is isolated at his lake house. Probably not a big deal, but it is odd how the executive branch was left out the loop, wouldn’t you say, Mr. President?
John Frankenheimer directs Rod Serling’s tight-as-a-drum screenplay about what happens when the institution that ostensibly protects you chooses to protect you from yourself. If you get ten minutes in to this story, you won’t leave till it’s over.
Burt Lancaster—as agile, grim, and intimidating as he was in Sweet Smell of Success—brings an eerie mix of icy arrogance and over-heated zeal to his role as head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He seems at home in the gleaming, sterile corridors of the Pentagon, apparently leading the top military brass—and a few senators— down a primrose path straight into the heart of the Deep State.
But this is Kirk Douglas’ picture, largely speaking. As an Army subordinate to Lancaster, he’s wondering why a U.S. Army division that is not even supposed to exist is doing exercises in an area no one has ever heard of. Or so it would appear.
To the tense, martial roll of Jerry Goldsmith’s score, Douglas quietly but crisply gathers clues before alerting the White House. It all looks amazing too, thanks to depth-of-focus lensing and varied location shooting.
The warm interiors of the White House rest in stark contrast to the Pentagon. Frederic March (offering a convincing presidential hybrid of Eisenhower and Johnson), is the relaxed, moderate foil to the zealous Right Wing as he lounges in a cardigan and shares Scotch on the rocks with his earnest staff of Washington pros. There’s a wee bit more lounging than seems appropriate at first, but when his old-boy network ditches the dignified, calm demeanor and begins investigating a possible coup, clear the decks for man-sized action.
Well, sort of. Their “proper channels” approach is downright alarming, considering the stakes. Can make you crazy.
You’ll get over it. Because Serling wrote this script, and Frankenheimer has at his disposal the most able group of serious-business players you will find in 1964. Martin Balsam, Charles McCready, Edmond O’Brien, Frederic March, Lancaster, and Douglas all look each other straight in the eye and say the things that need to be said. You may believe a lot of it.

Cesar Romero and Nancy Kelly in Frontier Marshal (Allan Dwan, 1939)
Cast: Randolph Scott, Nancy Kelly, Cesar Romero, Binnie Barnes, John Carradine, Edward Norris, Eddie Foy Jr., Ward Bond, Lon Chaney Jr., Chris-Pin Martin, Joe Sawyer. Screenplay: Sam Hellman, based on a book by Stuart N. Lake. Cinematography: Charles G. Clarke. Art direction: Lewis H. Creber, Richard Day. Film editing: Fred Allen. Music: Samuel Kaylin, Charles Maxwell, David Raksin, Walter Scharf.
The title Frontier Marshal sounds like a generic Western, and it doesn't lie. It's about a stranger who comes to a lawless mining town and cleans it up with his fists and his guns. The stranger, played by Randolph Scott, is Wyatt Earp, and the movie is based on Stuart N. Lake's heavily fictionalized 1931 biography of Earp that established his legend as the man who cleaned up Tombstone by fighting it out with the bad guys at the OK Corral. So yes, you've seen it all before, in later and more celebrated films like John Ford's My Darling Clementine (1946) and John Sturges's Gunfight at the OK Corral (1957). Allan Dwan's film (from which Ford borrowed liberally) is a more modest affair. The famous gunfight in the movie  is almost over before it starts. Nor is Scott's Earp a particularly mythic figure; he even gets seriously beat up before he's able to seize authority in the town. If there's a mythic figure in Frontier Marshal it's Doc Halliday*, played with surprising charm and finesse by Cesar Romero. The character of Earp is also overshadowed by two women: Jerry (Binnie Barnes), a tough-as-nails dance hall hostess, and Sarah (Nancy Kelly), a nurse who has followed her former lover, Doc, to Tombstone, trying to save him from himself. Refreshingly, the two women are given significant agency in the movie, beyond just battling for Doc's affections. What distinguishes Dwan as a director is that he never seems to take for granted the material he's given to work with. Yes, Frontier Marshal is generic and predictable, but Dwan doesn't condescend to it: He gives the scenes snap and vigor, and he gets performances that are in some ways better than they're written. Barnes, for example, turns Jerry into a force to be reckoned with. It took me a moment to recognize her as the same actress who played the snooty Linda Cram in Holiday (George Cukor, 1938). Kelly's Sarah isn't the pallid schoolmarm played by Cathy Downs in My Darling Clementine, but a woman out to get her man. And if Romero, usually a lounge lizard type, ever gave a better performance I haven't seen it. I could have done with less of Eddie Foy Jr., clownishly playing his own father, and Chris-Pin Martin's milking of the stereotypical Chicano bartender role, but they keep the film lively. Scott is less memorable than the other players, but he provides a quiet stability to the film.
Usually spelled "Holliday," but the alternate spelling was used, reportedly because of concern about litigation from the Holliday family.

Heythrop Park Hotel is located outside the village of Enstone near Chipping Norton (OX7 5UF). The estate is on the northern edge of the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in central England.   By Car — Heythrop Park is around 1 hour, 30 minute’s drive from London, between junction 9 and 10 of the M40. By Train — The nearest train station to Heythrop is Charlbury which is a 1-hour, 20-minute journey from London Paddington. From Charlbury Station, it’s a 15-minute taxi ride to Heythrop. HEYTHROP PARK HISTORY Charles Talbot, the 1st Duke of Shrewsbury, employed architect Thomas Archer to build Heythrop House. After falling in love with Italy, he requested an Italian Baroque-style residence. The glorious building was completed in 1710. In 1831 the house was severely damaged by fire. Thomas Brassey, a railway magnate, bought the house. Albert, his son, renovated the shell and expanded the estate. The Jesuits purchased the house in 1922, turning it into a college. In 1969, NatWest bought the house and park adding further buildings for staff training. From 1999 the estate was operated as a Crowne Plaza Hotel. In 2018, Warner Hotels took the property, undertaking a massive but sympathetic transformation. Without altering the footprint of the original building, they opened in 2022 and the Heythrop Park Hotel was born AN EXCITING COTSWOLDS GOLF HOTEL Twisting through the 440 acres of leafy, undulating landscaped grounds is a 72 par championship standard golf course with USGA standard greens.   With 5 sets of tees which stretch out to an impressive 7,156 yards from the tips, Heythrop Park Golf course is a challenge. Test your mettle on the tight fairways and try to avoid the numerous water features. It’s a tricky course even for the pros. The carefully prepared
course and beautiful Cotswold scenery make for a memorable – if perhaps high scoring – round. Choose from a 1- or 2-night package including breakfast, dinner and golf. Visit warnerleisurehotels.co.uk for more information. A LUXURIOUS COTSWOLDS SPA HOTEL Golf is not the only treat. The Spa & Wellness Club offers a rejuvenating experience in their modern onsite facilities. Treat yourself to a face or body treatment. Heythrop Park Spa uses Temple Spa products, a luxury British skincare brand which is proudly cruelty free. Go for a power breakfast facial and be on your way in 25 minutes or luxuriate with a 115-minute prescriptive facial and massage, designed just for you. If you just want to unwind at your own pace, have a paddle in the 20-metre indoor heated pool or soak in the thermal steam room. We couldn’t resist a glass of prosecco in the hot tubs on the outdoor terrace, and found it hard to leave. EPIC ADVENTURE ACROSS THE LAKE BAÏKAL
Some of my friends say I am living my dream. Some say I am living my passion. But it’s not as rosy as it looks. It’s not easy to travel on these adventurous expeditions while having an 11-year-old Autistic daughter at home. I am able to do these travels just because my one and only wife is supportive and allows me to follow my passion of adventure even though it’s difficult for her to manage without me. I will always stay indebted to her for this.
The same evening that I returned from the Mount Everest base camp expedition, I received a message from Venky regarding the Road to Baikal expedition in Siberia. In the morning, I had the permission granted and the confirmation went out to Venky and there was no looking back.
Expedition in this part of the world where the maximum temperatures are -10 degrees and minimum anywhere between -30 to  -35 degrees required 100% preparation. Looking for appropriate clothing including sleeping bag, shoes, socks, etc. began. In the meantime the flight tickets were booked and the Russian visa was taken care off. Being in Russia and not visiting Moscow would be considered a crime. So, I decided to take a stopover at Moscow on my return journey.
Months passed by so quickly and before I knew it, I was on my way to Irkutsk in Siberia from Dubai via Moscow. The journey to Moscow was not so bad. But the 9-hour wait in the airport lounge was killing even though there was food and free drinks. Sitting all alone (only Indian) with no company was the worst part. I reached Irkutsk the following morning where I had to forward the clock by 5 hours. The representative of Nomadic Road, organisers of this expedition, transferred me to our hotel, The Courtyard by Marriott.
As usual Venky was at the reception to greet and welcome me. The temperature was a little disappointing. It was only -2 degrees whereas the average temperatures at this time of the year are above -10 degrees. The Adventure began the same day. We were booked in for a private helicopter tour on Lake Baikal to cover the south side where we wouldn’t be driving and a lunch to be served on the lakeside. After a quick breakfast and freshening up at the hotel, we assembled at the lobby by 12 pm. Also, met the guys who would be, partners in crime on this expedition. I knew Ashlyn (who has done 2 expeditions with me) and Ajesh as we are members of the same off-roading club in Dubai. Met Ram from Mumbai and Mittal my would be partner in the vehicle from Pune. Also met the brother in law duo of Vijay from Mumbai and Suresh from Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Another brother in law duo Neeraj from Delhi and Deepak from Mumbai were to reach later that night. Charles, the French filmmaker also would arrive later that night after missing his connecting flight to Irkutsk. Ram and Mittal were not taking the helicopter tour. So the 5 of us were transferred to the helipad, a half an hour drive from our hotel along with an English-speaking guide.
“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before”
Tumblr media
After a simple briefing, which was translated to us, we were on the choppers ready for take-off. I was paired with Vijay in a small chopper (due to weight issues) and the others were in a 6 seater. The ride took us above Irkutsk giving us a bird’s eye view of the city and following the frozen Angara River towards Lake Baikal. We were told to watch out for any wildlife below, but were not lucky enough to spot anything. We could also see the long Trans-Siberian railway line winding through the mountains.
The first view of the humongous frozen lake Baikal brought goose bumps all over. The magnanimity of the lake and the thought of driving on it for the next 7 days brought more excitement within.
Tumblr media
At the first sight of the clear blue ice below, I almost screamed out of joy, but somehow contained it. The scenery below was out of the world and brought back memories of some good science fiction movies such as The snow creature. We also got to see some locals carrying out ice fishing, cars driving on the lake, a hovercraft and surprisingly an adventurer trying to cross the lake with a cycle. The experienced pilots took us as low as possible so that we could get a good look of the lake and easily landed the choppers on the lakeside at Polovinniy bay besides the railway track. This village at Polovinniy bay is abandoned during winters. By the time we walked along the railway line near the village, the pilots had set our lunch on the lakeside and surprised us with a bottle of champagne.
Tumblr media
The lunch was a good spread of Fish and Beef along with the famous Omul Salad.  Omul is a white fish species of the salmon family endemic to Lake Baikal. It is considered a delicacy in Siberia and eaten raw in a salad. As the champagne disappeared in a few minutes, Ajesh pulled out a bottle of Remy Martin from his bag. The Omul salad tasted great with the company of cognac and I had never imagined that I would be eating raw fish someday. Once done we took off again and flew over the town of Listvyanka where most of the tourist from Irkutsk comes to enjoy the frozen lake. It seems around 300 rivers come and empty themselves into lake Baikal and only 1 river flows out of lake Baikal which is river Angara and starts from Listvyanka.
We got to witness one more wonder of Mother Nature. The 700 meters at the mouth of the river Angara, where it flows out of Baikal never freezes under any circumstances and any temperature even in the harshest winters. The remainder of the journey was very scenic and kept me busy making video clips and clicking pictures. We also flew over the famous Taltsy museum, which is an open-air museum. Taltsy was a village of wooden houses, which was moved and preserved in the present location to enact the life of the Russians in the 17th and 18th century. It was on my list to visit this museum, but had to be satisfied by the aerial view due to shortage of time. Upon landing at the helipad, we celebrated our trip with local Baikal vodka shots at the heliport bar and returned to our hotel. In the evening Ram and Mittal joined me, Ajesh and Ashlyn for a walk to the old town. A picture by Babur the lioness, a bronze sculpture was a must. Lakewood offers information, free reusable grocery bags as new state law kicks in
Plastic shopping bags are examples of single-use plastic pollution endangering our ecosystems and economies. They can take a very long time to decompose, even though they offer many advantages to modern living. They obstruct important landfill space, pollute the ecosystem, and harm our oceans. Lakewood decided to take part in the campaign to lessen their use. As a result of a new state law requiring merchants to charge 10 cents for plastic or paper bags, the City of Lakewood established "Bring Your Own Bag," an online information center to assist businesses and individuals in switching to reusable bags. At its annual Earth Day celebration in April and other events throughout the year, the City will distribute free reusable bags as part of its initiatives.

History
William Austin Hamilton Loveland, a railroad entrepreneur, his wife Miranda, and his partner Charles C. Welch, began the urban and suburban development of the neighborhood now known as Lakewood in 1889. They platted a 13-block area along Colfax Avenue west of Denver in eastern Jefferson County. The community of Lakewood didn't have a municipal government until 1969; instead, it relied on several water districts, some fire districts, and the Jefferson County government. The Jefferson County Sheriff was in charge of maintaining order in Lakewood, which also had many volunteer fire departments and some areas without sidewalks or street lights. As a result of widespread opposition to the name "Jefferson City" and concerns that it might be confused with already-existing municipalities in Colorado and Missouri, the name of the city was soon changed by referendum to Lakewood.
William F. Hayden Green Mountain Park
The second-largest park in Lakewood is William Frederick Hayden Park, also known as Green Mountain, with more than 2,400 acres of open space. A challenging network of multi-use trails is present in the park. Green Mountain Trail's 6,800-foot summit features extraordinary and breathtaking views over the Denver metropolitan area to the east and high mountain peaks to the west. It takes less than 2 hours to reach the top on foot. There are brief periods throughout the winter when you can snowshoe the trail. This park, which once housed buffalo, today offers a rich habitat for various animals, such as coyotes, hawks, rattlesnakes, bluebirds, rabbits, mule deer, and the sporadic mountain lion.

If you'd prefer to exercise inside, the 24-hour fitness center, furnished with Precor cardio equipment and the Torque Xlab, has you covered. Explore Louisianas Beaches
Explore Louisiana’s Beaches https://ift.tt/moaeFJ8 Explore Louisiana’s Beaches Discover Louisiana’s Beaches Grand Isle Travel two hours south of New Orleans, through the swamps and into the barrier islands, and turn left just before the road ends. You’ll soon find yourself on Grand Isle, a tiny oceanside town and barrier island overlooking Caminada Bay. This is arguably the most famous of Louisiana’s beaches, and for good reason. Its proximity to the Crescent City makes it an easy day trip for city dwellers, and the redfish and tarpon fishing here – as is the case everywhere in southern Louisiana – is second to none. Explore the ten miles of coastline here, check out some of the many migratory birds that temporarily call the island “home,” or simply lounge in the sand.  Learn more about things to do in Grand Isle and learn about Grand Isle State Park. *Notice:  Grand Isle State Park remains closed until further notice due to damage from Hurricane Ida. Please check with Louisiana State Parks for updates. Holly Beach You’ll know you’re getting close to Holly Beach when you start seeing the clusters of houses on stilts. This beach town is about an hour south of Lake Charles and Sulphur, and it marks the western edge of what locals call the Cajun Riviera, a 30-mile stretch of south Louisiana coastline dotted by marshes and rivers. Camping is allowed on the beach, and the numerous rental houses and RV areas might convince you to stick around for more than just a day. Pack your fishing gear to enjoy surf fishing. This beach is also known for bird-watching, shell collecting and spectacular sunsets. Rutherford Beach Located off Highway 82 in Cameron Parish, Rutherford Beach offers beautiful sites and sounds as the roar of the crashing waves come up on the shoreline. It’s a great place for shell collecting on this rustic beach stretch. Camping is available on the beach and the serenity of this spot will make you feel like it’s your own private getaway.  Cypremort Point Beach Cypremort Point State Park is home to this picturesque beach overlooking Vermilion Bay. Windsurfing and fishing are popular here; for boat-less visitors, Cypremort Point has a great fishing pier. Overnight visitors to the area should check out one of the six cabins on site.  Fontainebleau State Park Families and sunbathers delight in the beauty of the white sand beaches of Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville. Stunning views of Lake Pontchartrain provide a beautiful backdrop for a lazy day on the beach. Or more active types will enjoy exploring the park’s sugar mill ruins, hiking the 6 miles of trail, biking the Tammany Trace or a paddle along the lakeshore. Bring the family and camp for a fun-filled weekend. Source link The post Explore Louisiana’s Beaches appeared first on Near Me. via Near Me https://nearme.center/ October 31, 2022 at 03:15PM
