playing LB2 a bit more and slight spoilers but Why is Napoleon low-key charming. This man said "Oh la la", how am I supposed to take him seriously. However I also find this very suspicious

Seeing that you've been going thorugh the lostbelts of late. What's you're current opinion on all of them?
to put it in semi-precise terms, my Ritsuka operates under the quad feelings of: "How many Gerdas looked up at the sky and were impaled by trees?" + "This is the world Romani Ars Nova'd for, there is no way in any of the afterlives that I will let this world die so easily." +
"I have spent an unknown amount of time protecting this world from Ars Goetia, the Ritual of Humanity's Incineration/the Remnants of the fractured Ritual/whatever was in the events. There is no reason to stop protecting the world now." +
"Just because I have to kill your world to save my own, doesn't mean i can't chronologize your world so that you may be remembered."
I'm actually really tempted to write a fanfic that actually allows Ritsuka to use the whole "I'm saving my world." response to Qin from part 3. Ritsuka, as one of the people who faced most/all of humanity/the world's cruelty, acknowledges how diastourous the world may be. ...if Chaldea, and others like them, did not exist.
however they do.
Isn't that why you are fighting me? for we have the same job, we would have been friends (indeed we were before the whole confusicsm thing) if we were on the same side.
what's that? you don't know about Ars Goetia? then I have done my job correctly.
or as someone far more equlent than me (I can't even spell the word): https://old.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/k3sbzj/cosmos_denial/ge574sp/
4-6 I have yet to actually play, so I only have second hand info and thus only have second hand opinions.

Me going insane about parallels between Tsukihime and Lostbelt 2
Tumblr media
Okay, so straight to the point Surtr and Ophelia's relationship is meant to parallel and be the reverse of Shiki and Arcuied's relationship. So for the superficial stuff, both situations involve literally two individuals who form a connection due to a mystic eye that causes one of them to change their outlook in a profound manner and fall madly in love with the other. Shiki and Arcuied met due to Shiki's own instincts taking over, which led to him using his mystic eyes to cut Arc. This impact on Arc was so profound that it basically changed her personality. For Surtr and Ophelia, due to Ophelia's mystic eyes, she met lostbelt Surtr before any of the events of the lostbelt. That moment was such an impossibility that it became so profound for Surtr that he desperately wanted to do anything for her as thanks.
But since we're past the superficial stuff, this is where all the differences lie. Because while these events, while similar, only truly apply traits and abilities, these characters are not who they are. Shiki isn't Ophelia, and Surtr isn't Arcueid. But for the two humans, they do have different mystic eyes, which reflect their own actions. For shiki from his own understanding of life and its simple fragility he wants to always attemping to never be passive even in situation where even his own memories are a lie to him and abandoned any connection he had with his former family because of what he vaules. Ophelia, on the other hand, is so indecisive because her family's training stole her agency. In a twist of fate, a person can force another to follow a certain path with her mystic eyes, said person have no decisiveness of their own. Other parallels are what they value, how they treat their partner's predestined path, and how they deal with the mistake they made.
For Arcueid and Surtr, while they do have parallels, like them being both super weapons made by the world using (supposedly) blueprints from an alien species, The most important part is how much that moment affected them. While I would hesitate to use the remake in this thesis (even though it's like the whole reason why I started writing this idea), it's better to show a clear example of the difference between the two. To put it in layman's terms, as a machine, Arcuied is way too broken, and Surtr isn't broken enough. With Arc in the Ciel route, she was forcing herself to become human, which is clearly not good for her; she was basically going against her own functions. But with Surtr, despite wanting to do anything for Ophelia, it just kept on going back to burning the world at the end. He was still the ending of Ragnarok and could never truly stray away from that, even till the end.
Anyway, there's more to get into in Lostbelt 2, like how Napoleon is reverse Ciel or how hilarous it is that Brynhild technically takes on the role of Roa, and how her relationship with Sigurd is reverse reverse Shiki and Arc. Or how Ophelia's endgame is becoming Shiki technically. Or-

I'm still mad that Sakurai ruined LB2 with her writing but i still love the SigBryn scene

“Find a good Sakurai Scene” challenge: far from impossible.
To restate myself: When she’s not…let’s say, “distracted”, Sakurai can fucking write. And she has written some of my favorite moments in the entire game to date. LB2 is by far the worst lostbelt and has what is at MINIMUM tied for the worst character in the game, but god does if have its moments just like the other lostbelts.

I really appreciate that Goredolf is getting so angry. When he first showed up, I would’ve never thought he’d be like this.
And I feel like a short life is something that comes up a little frequently in Fate. Mash, Illya, Sieg. like there are several characters who are told they’re lives are shortened and know they won’t live more than a few years.
It makes me wonder if Mash is going to have some input on this whole thing.

Long overdue review of Lostbelt 2.
Putting under the cut in case its too long and in case some mutuals are still behind.
I finished this a while ago actually lol. Anyways, When we first arrived in Scandinavia, I was unimpressed with another snowy place, like they really chose Jötunheimr for the location amongst the entire Norse mythology worlds but it explains it all in the end.
I have to admit after Lostbelt 1, this Lostbelt felt...lackluster. I feel like I enjoyed almost all of the characters--Napolean was really great. He came in with a strong introduction and continued to carry us throughout the Lostbelt, at times when he was withholding information I thought maybe he was suspicious but he wasn’t. He was a man who had regrets, and love and despite the harshness and almost hopelessness of the entire situation he kept going with a smile and I loved it.
I mentioned before that I love Ophelia. Coming to know her was great, her story chapter and her relationships with Mash and Napoleon were both touching and funny. I was also glad to see it wasn’t focused entirely on Guda.
I feel like Brynhildr introduction and the lore dump was good, the mystery revolving around Sigurd and Surtr’s integration. I loved the cast of Lostbelt 2, but the story took a dive in the wrong direction.
I know the entire point of the Lostbelt was stagnation, but having the plot go that way was a poor choice in motivation in my opinion. Skadi’s own unwillingness to act made the entire chapter feel like I was reading the same 10 pages over and over again. The fact they tried to make her an all-good Queen was...okay? I guess, it just felt that it lacked wisdom in my opinion. It was an interesting concept to explore about the all-loving-Queen and a world without war and hatred, only for them to turn around and try and say she wanted better but just couldn’t do so because of Surtr, just to justify the stripping of humanity, and making kids breed before 15 and killing at 25 was in poor taste. It felt like a poor ploy to try and sympathize with her.
I don’t know, it just felt like if someone told me ‘oh Zouken used the worms on Sakura because he wanted to eradicate all evil so he was good actually’ like that doesn’t excuse the crap he did to Sakura, in the same way, I don’t care that Skadi wanted better for humans when she was the cause of it all, killing what made them human to begin with. The fight for their survival here felt weak too.
I wished it had explored more on Gerda and her hopes and dreams in the aspiration from Napoleon. It felt like it was heading that direction but they wanted to beat around the bush.
Sitonai’s and Dante’s guest appearances made me happy but then they barely played a role at all so it felt a bit useless.
There was also something, I don’t know if it was just me or what, but the pacing of story segments after and before battles felt...off? Many times after I read a segment, I felt like I was missing something or that I skipped something entirely.
And when Ophelia died, it made me incredibly sad, but then Mash was on the field again and no one talked of Ophelia, and just...what even happened to her body after that??? Did we bury her, or did it disintegrate because of the Sirius Light? It never explained.
I don’t know, each character arc in this was great but piecing it altogether felt like a hot mess which kind of sucks to me because I really liked the cast. I loved Ophelia, Bryn and Sigurd, hell Napoleon was great too.
Oh! The part of putting Holmes on the bus, when he fought alongside us against Not Sigurd was great. The little tidbit of information of Helena, and him being sad, I really loved it. Like I want Holmes with us on the field! I don’t want him to be just another Romani.
I don’t know, if there’s any mutuals here that did love it, I would be happy to hear about your opinions! For me, this is just in the less than favorable opinion. Lostbelt 1 really went all out for me and maybe that just rose my expectation too high.

Back to that Part 1 Morgan concept for a second -
Even when summoned during part 1, Morgan has all of her memories of Lostbelt 6 leading up to her death. She knows that some day, her Master will go to war against her and her Britain. Yet, after a time - a time spent sharing in victory and defeat, in being rewarded, thanked, and respected by her Master and Chaldea like the faeries of Britain would never think to do - she starts to harbor a faint shred of hope that maybe things will change. Timelines diverged when she sent her memories back in the Lostbelt, maybe whatever calamity caused her Master to become the enemy of the Lostbelts could be averted as well? She dematerializes at the end of part 1.5 satisfied that even if she could never save her Britain, she was at least able to help a treasured comrade save his world.
Then she watches from the Saint Graph briefcase as her Master is betrayed, his home destroyed, his allies slaughtered, and the survivors sent on the run like criminals. Despite this, he continues to fight in the name of Proper Human History. When she is finally resummoned around the time of the LB3 prologue, her words to him are the same she's said to Baobhan Sith and to herself countless times.
