We often purchase ang ku kuehs or red tortoise cakes from Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh (吉祥红龟粿) if we are around the vicinity of the stall. This lot of colourful snacks are for both my family and sister’s friend. Each colour represented a different filling except for the red ones which is either Peanut (花生) or Sweet Bean Paste (豆沙). Grey is Salted Bean Paste (咸豆沙), Green is Coconut (椰子), Purple is Yam (芋头) and Yellow is Corn (玉米).

World's oldest aquarium fish 'Methuselah' could be decades older than we originally thought, DNA clock reveals
A new study has found that the famous Australian lungfish Methuselah, who first arrived in the U.S. in 1938, could be up to 101 years old.
The world's oldest aquarium fish, a lungfish named Methuselah, may actually be decades older than researchers originally thought and may even be over 100 years old, a new study finds. Methuselah is a female Australian lungfish (Neoceratodus forsteri) that resides at Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco, California. She first arrived at the aquarium in 1938 after being sent to the U.S. along with more than 200 other fish from Fiji and Australia.  Aquarium staff have never been sure how old Methuselah is, but until now the best guess was that she is 84 years old, which makes her the oldest known fish in captivity. (In the Bible, Methuselah was a man who reputedly lived to be 969 years old.)...

In a groundbreaking endeavor, researchers at the University of Rochester have successfully transferred a longevity gene from naked mole rats to mice, resulting in improved health and an extension of the mouse's lifespan. Naked mole rats, known for their long lifespans and exceptional resistance to age-related diseases, have long captured the attention of the scientific community. By introducing a specific gene responsible for enhanced cellular repair and protection into mice, the Rochester researchers have opened exciting possibilities for unlocking the secrets of aging and extending human lifespan. "Our study provides a proof of principle that unique longevity mechanisms that evolved in long-lived mammalian species can be exported to improve the lifespans of other mammals," says Vera Gorbunova, the Doris Johns Cherry Professor of biology and medicine at Rochester.

Never underestimate the power of self care and self love. It might sound like a trivial slogan, but it’s the old truth.
•Find time for things you love
•Stop eating junk and processed foods
•Have a regular sleeping schedule and try to have 7.5-9 hours of sleep every day (individual needs for sleep vary from person to person)
•Think about things that make you proud of yourself and don’t torment yourself with stuff you cannot change.
•No matter how much you love your family- find a bit of time just for yourself - they’ll appreciate you more if you’re mentally rested and in a good mood
•Decompress after work- don’t jump into chores the moment you come back home- give yourself 15-20 minutes to rest
•Drink 2.5-3 litres of water a day. If you drink a glass of water every hour for 12 hours of your day it will nicely add up without you peeing like crazy;)
•Use broad spectrum sunscreen no matter what the weather is like and even during winter to keep youthful look and prevent age/liver/sun spots

Now that the holidays are over and you’ve got a new sword to cherish, here are some quick tips to ensure its proper care and maintenance.
Sword care is essential to keep your weapons and armor in top shape for a long time. By understanding your purchase’s capabilities and learning care techniques, you can ensure their longevity.
Many swords are made using traditional methods that have been used for centuries, and they are susceptible to a common problem: rust. Sword blades typically come in two types of steel: stainless and high carbon.
Stainless steel blades are highly rust-resistant, with higher grades being completely immune to rust. However, lower-grade stainless steel blades may develop a bit of rust over time. It’s important to note that these blades are usually used in decorative swords.
On the other hand, high carbon steel is used in Battle Ready and Sport Combat swords. While it offers excellent durability and performance, it can rust easily if not properly maintained. Therefore, it’s crucial to give proper attention to the care and maintenance of high carbon steel blades to prevent rust and ensure their longevity.
Remember, a little maintenance and common sense can go a long way in keeping your swords, edged weapons, armor, and shields in great shape for years to come.

Shown here are the Coconut (椰子) and Peanut (花生) versions we bought near our place from Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh (吉祥红龟粿) popup stall.

The lifespan of demigods and heroes
I'm still painstakingly building a precise chronology of the Second Trojan War, taking detours along the biographies and lineages that immediately precede it. I've been thinking for a while about chronological discrepancies between dynasties and how to reconcile them. As an extreme example, if we compare the Inachids of Argos/Mycenae with the Deucalionids of Thessaly, some of these discrepancies can represent gaps of ten generations.
But I realize I've been assuming all along that the lifespan of the characters involved was that of mortal men. These families descend from gods and naiads and I'm wondering whether allowing some of their members to have lived three or four human lifetimes would be the easiest and most elegant way to close these gaps.
I'll have to research what the sources have to say about that. In most cases, they just refer to characters as "young" or "old". Nestor and Tiresias are expicitly given long lives by the gods, but I do not recall them being qualified as exceptions and there is no reason to believe that there weren't other occurences of such favors.
Giving the Deucalionids, descendants of Prometheus, extra long lifespans would solve many, if not most, of my chronological issues. I'll have to give some thought to the nature of mortality versus immortality, and how that could affect the child of a god and a mortal. [note to self : myths of Achilles, Demophon, Prometheus & Chiron, men of the golden, silver and bronze ages]
I'd be curious to hear your take on this topic. Please don't hesitate to comment!
