Is it just me, or is there a pretty under-explored niche for a massive D&D fantasy franchise along the lines of Star Wars and Marvel? The sort of missing third genre leg beside science fiction and comics, so to speak.
They've clearly tried this with Tolkien, at least as far as extending the LotR movies to the Hobbit trilogy and the Amazon show which is kinda-sorta in the same lineage. And those things had more than none traction. But the Tolkien estate isn't making it easy with rights licensing, and there's an awkward founder effect they have to contend with- the Jackson LotR trilogy gave the entire franchise a very distinct 'vibe' in the popular imagination, and in practice it seems to be hard to recapture given current production constraints. It seems like it's really hard to make a Tolkien movie or show that 'feels like' the Jackson movies unless you sink a lot in to costuming and practical effects, but the current trends are in the opposite direction, with elaborate greenscreening and digital everything.
But in any case, Middle-Earth really isn't the brand you want for a mass-media culture juggernaut, is it? It's literary when it needs to be pulpy, mournful when it needs to be exciting, pensive when it needs to be strident. The world is vast, but delicate, and written by a single author exploring a narrow, coherent set of themes and styles.
Surely D&D- which is to say, the Forgotten Realms, realistically- is better for this all-around. It has a truly massive baked-in fanbase that's clearly (through 'actual play' podcasts etc.) already chomping at the bit for high production value experiences, a vast backlog of source material to draw on owned by corporate entities rather than a single brittle family estate, a wide variety of scenarios allowing for multiple sub-genres and directoral styles all under the same umbrella. It's just as popular but less sacred, meaning the audience will be more tolerant of failures. It has merchandising options for days, already has beautiful examples of video game and multimedia tie-ins, and has established and successful writing patterns for epic-scale crossover movies, long-running multi-season campaigns, one-shots, and everything in between.
There's one weakness, which is that compared to Star Wars and Marvel, individual characters are less central in the existing property. D&D has some, such as Drizzt, that rose to prominence in the novel spin-offs, so of course this isn't totally wrecked. However, the brand was originally built fundamentally as a game system and as a set of places, with the heroes to be assembled by the consumers themselves; it must be said that iconic characters are somewhat sparse, and awkwardly spread across multiple settings and continuities. But I think if you got the thing really roaring, this might give it longevity that Star Wars and Marvel ultimately lack- Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, Mark Hammil is Luke, and notwithstanding AI representations, once those actors are gone, the franchises themselves flounder awkwardly. But if audiences come to identify their enthusiasm for D&D franchise movies with the world and brand itself, then the turnover in the cast is much less damaging to that brand, because the whole thing is already built from the ground up without overly relying on a specific group of 8-10 actors as a lynchpin of the whole operation. Even the leveling mechanic allows for franchise tentpole actors to grow in prominence as they emerge as audience favorites, then conveniently transition in to CG apotheosis or some other suitable end as the actors age out and new favorites are found.
I mean, far be it from me to give advice to the goliaths of culture, but I'm genuinely puzzled about why Disney hasn't bought D&D yet, or why Hasbro hasn't made some kind of big push to do this outside the single (pretty good!) movie. I think I'd even kind of enjoy it.

Related pre-sales are as high as 1,700 ten thousand yuan.
While cooperating with the main winning bidders of the "Monkey King" brand authorization auction, including People's Literature Publishing House * Tiantian Publishing House, to integrate and develop the "Monkey King" book, audio-visual, and toy industry authorization, "The Monkey King" The development of related products and related industries, as well as the derivative chain of the animation industry of the film are also being fully expanded. It is reported that CCTV Animation will also sign an agreement with Walt Disney Company on the broadcasting of "The Monkey King" on the Disney Channel in Asia. broadcast platform. “Moby-Dick” harpooned me
The novel Moby-Dick started surfacing in my media consumption a few months ago—first, the “Hugo Girl” podcast did an episode about the book, and later I saw this brief Twitter thread about how Ishmael’s mood at the beginning of the novel is relatable to today’s Gen Z.
So I decided to re-read Moby-Dick, after reading it once in high school and again in college and then forgetting almost everything about it.
I enjoyed the book at first, when the protagonist (“call me Ishmael”) is on land. I imagine him as a smart guy, widely read, but an autodidact, with little or no formal schooling. I have known people like that and liked them. He loves to talk and think. He has crazy ideas. Everything he sees or encounters leads him to think about twelve other things. He works at manual labor, and talks and talks all day as he works. If he was your co-worker, you’d find him simultaneously endearing, entertaining, and annoying. The talk passes the time and if you tune him out and just don’t listen, he won’t mind.
Then Ishmael boards the Pequod, and I started to find the book less and less interesting and more dense and difficult to read.
Midway through, I just gave up. I had read precisely 42% of the book, according to the Kindle app.
Tumblr media
I think my mistake might have been trying to read the book as a popular novel, rather than as literature. Rather than studying and analyzing every sentence, as I did when reading it for class, I tried to just read it, thinking deeply about whatever parts seemed to catch my mind, and just reading and enjoying the rest.
But eventually I began to come across more and more passages that didn’t make sense to me. If read very slowly and carefully, perhaps I could have made sense of them. But it was all starting to seem like work.
Maybe the language and culture have changed enough from when the book was first published in 1851 to make it hard to read today.
And maybe even contemporary 19th Century readers found Moby-Dick tough going. I know it sold poorly during Melville’s lifetime. His first two novels sold well, but his career slid, and Melville ended up working as a customs inspector, while continuing to write poetry. His literary reputation earned him an obit in the New York Times when he died at age 72 in 1891, identifying him as a writer of “seafaring tales, written in earlier years.” But they spelled Moby-Dick wrong.
I may try this experiment again, with a good annotated edition, which might hopefully help me better understand what I’m reading.

What are the things protected under copyright Law?
Tumblr media
Copyright falls under the branches of intellectual property rights defined by the World Intellectual Property Organization as follows: Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions; literary and artistic works; etc. used in commerce. Intellectual property is divided into two categories: Industrial property includes patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications. Intellectual property refers broadly to legal rights arising from intellectual activity in the industrial, scientific, literary and artistic fields. There are many parts under Intellectual property like copyright, trademark, patent, etc. Many Online legal certification courses are available for each part of intellectual property law as every person or organisation requires this law.
Copyright -
Copyright is an intellectual property right derived from a person's talent and labour in the creation and transmission of an original concept. Copyright preserves works of cultural heritage such as literature, drama, music and sculpture. Copyright protection is granted immediately under the Copyright Act 1968, which gives the author of the work the exclusive right to create, sell and have credit for the work. As with many types of intellectual property, there is no official registry or database where you can check and see if your concept is original. Copyright is an exclusive legal right granted to the creator or a group of individuals to protect their work or creativity from reproduction, adaptation, translation, distribution and public performance by others without the prior consent of the creator/person responsible for the existence of the work.
Copyright Protection -
While copyright by itself does not protect information or ideas, it does protect the original expression of information and ideas. Copyright is used only for literary, dramatic, musical and artistic tasks. The rights that apply to each of these categories vary.
A copyright notice is a notice printed on a copyrighted work; usually includes the © symbol, the creation date of the work and the name of the creator. The copyright notice can act as a deterrent to infringers. Under Section 13 of Chapter III of the Indian Copyright Act, the following works are protected:
Literary work: "Literary works" are defined in Article 101 of the Copyright Law as "works, other than audiovisual works, expressed in words, numbers or other verbal or numerical symbols or indications, regardless of the nature of the material objects, such as books, magazines, manuscripts, etc.
Musical work: Musical works are especially worth viewing as Section 115 of the Copyright Act expressly subjects them to "licensing requirements" once they have been made available to the public. These compulsory licenses allow any musician to perform or record a cover of a song without obtaining permission from the original songwriter.
Dramatic Work: "Dramatic works" include plays, screenplays and scripts for television. This category illustrates how works can overlap in many different categories. The musical score of dramatic works such as films may be separately copyrighted. Sound recordings of books can be considered sound recordings.
Artistic Work: "Artistic work" includes ballet, dance or mime. Because copyright protection requires work to be permanently recorded and reproducible, these works are often repaired when videotaped, photographed, or annotated in abbreviated form for choreography.
Cinematograph films: "Audiovisual work" can include anything from movies to presentations, and video podcasts, in other words, anything intended to be shown (on a projector, TV or computer screen) that consists of sound and recorded images.
Sound recordings: Sound recordings are defined by the Copyright Act as "works resulting from the recording of a series of musical, spoken or other sounds, but excluding sounds accompanying a film or other audiovisual work". Probably the best way to understand the category of sound recordings is to compare it with the category "musical works".
Architectural work: Works of architecture are probably the least expected category of copyrighted works. The category of architectural work protects the design of a building in architectural projects, architectural plans, and even the buildings themselves. For this category, copyright can protect the overall form of the work, as well as the arrangement and composition of spaces and elements in the project.
Copyright Protection is not provided for-
Works that are not secured in tangible form.
Titles, names, short phrases, slogans, methods, factual information, symbols or designs.
Trademark law may offer some protection to such works.
However, in such cases, a patent or trade secret may protect an idea or concept, method, process, plan, principle, discovery or policy.
Works that are already in the public domain and whose original author cannot be traced are not covered by copyright.
Copyrighted works that have already expired.
Conclusion - Although there are many copyright restrictions and issues, understanding the law and copyright usage would lead us to use copyrighted content in an extremely secure manner for personal study and research purposes. A sufficient level of understanding of copyright issues must be developed before purchasing resources. At this point, conditions between the parties involved in the purchase of the assets would play an important role in protecting of the copyright of the owners. As a facilitator, the librarian must inform his users about copyright issues on a daily basis. And this could become one of the important factors that can play an important role in reducing copyright infringement among library users. According to the Indian Copyright Act of 1957, it is very clear that neither the publisher nor the facilitator is responsible for any infringement of copyrighted material, but anyone involved in the infringing activity is held solely responsible for their misconduct. The concepts of copyright law are very crucial for a law student as nowadays it is required everywhere and these students are provided with the best online law certification courses. These Online legal courses help the students to grasp the knowledge more effectively.

Jordana LeSesne, formerly known as 1.8.7, is an American musician and producer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[1] She now produces and performs as Jordana. She became known in the mid-1990s as a drum and bass producer.[2] Vibe magazine called her "one of the most respected Drum ‘n' Bass producers in the US."[3] In 2015, she was named as one of "20 women who shaped the history of dance music" by Mixmag.[4] She is transgender and came out in 1998.[5][2]
She has released over 50 tracks, including four albums, several EPs, and remixes under the alias 1.8.7. The 1997 album When Worlds Collide became known for its "dark pummeling assaults". She has licensed tracks for compilations as well as the Sci Fi Channel. Three of her albums charted in the Top 25 of both the CMJ (College Music Journal) and Mixmag U.S. (later Mixer Magazine, now defunct) for 1997 as well as 1998[6] and 1999. Her third album "The Cities Collection" debuted in the CMJ Top 5 climbed to the #2 position on CMJ Music Monthly's dance chart for June 2000.[7][8][9]
Her works have been reviewed by Billboard,[10] Spin, Rolling Stone, Urb, Mixer, Mixmag, Raygun,[3] as well as Knowledge – the U.K. Drum and Bass magazine. In 1999, she was listed in Raygun's Who's Who of International DJs. She was one of the headlining DJs on Knowledge Magazine's 28 city Kung Fu Knowledge tour in 1999.[11] She also made Out Magazine's OUT100 list for the year 2000.[12]

Impact on music[edit]
Her work has influenced other artists such as well-known dubstep producer Bassnectar, who heavily sampled 5 A.M. Rinse (feat. MC Sphinx), the last song on her first album When Worlds Collide for his song Here We Go of his 2010 EP and single Timestretch.[13] Since the sexual allegations of Bassnectar have become known to her, Jordana has publicly condemned his actions as well as called out the fact that he never delivered contractually promised royalties for the above mentioned work.[14] Additionally, electronic rock act Celldweller sampled "Wake Up" off of her first album as well as "San Francisco" off of her third album "The Cities Collection" in their 2013 song "Uncrowned".[15]
In 1999, Drum & Bass/Hip Hop producer and label owner Hive approached Jordana to remix her song Defcon-1 also off of When Worlds Collide. Hive's remix appears on his 2001 album The Raw Uncut.[16] Jordana collaborated with Lady Sovereign on a song early in Sov's career after the two met through an internet chat room for StrikeFM.co.uk, an online radio station which Jordana had a show, and the now defunct UKGarageWorldwide.com forums. The two would later team up when Jordana under her Lady J alias, had Lady Sovereign MC for her radio show on Flex FM London.[17]
History[edit]
She first came to the attention of the music industry when she was asked to remix Blondie's "Atomic." Her remix appeared along with Armand Van Helden and Diddy’s remixes on the single.[3] A little over a year following that release, Mac McFarlane, the promoter of the well established and legendary New York City club, Konkrete Jungle, contacted her to create a themed song for a CD compilation/mix-CD. Jordana created the song "Konkrete Jungle" for that purpose. Described by CMJ as containing "menacing hardstep attacks",[18] it was released on the Ultra Records compilation, Konkrete Jungle - Maximum Drum & Bass, mixed by BBC Radio 1 Drum'n'Bass show host Jumpin Jack Frost. Following extensive touring throughout North America and abroad as a music producer, Liquid Sky Music, an indie label distributed by Caroline Distribution signed her to a three-album contract in late 1996.
Hate crime in Ohio[edit]
On the night of February 22, 2000 in Kent, Ohio, Jordana was attacked and brutally beaten in a transphobic hate crime by a group of men including Matthew Gostlin.[19] Gostlin and other assailants vaulted her in the parking lot outside of the Robin Hood nightclub where she had just performed on the Cities Collection tour. The attack took place while she was escorted from the event with the event promoter to his car. The group of men attacked suddenly and Jordana lost consciousness almost immediately after being struck in the face. She suffered nerve damage to the lower part of her face from her lower lip down as a result. She was quoted, saying in the May 2000 issue of CMJ New Music Monthly that in the seconds just prior to the attack: "I saw his face. I remember the look on his face. It was this look of utter hate, like 'I'm going to kill you.'"[20] In an interview with the Village Voice, George Meesig, a man from Cleveland, Ohio who defended her during the attack, stated that Gostlin had misgendered her, saying “this is personal”.[21] Other reports noted by the Village Voice on the message board for Breakbeat Science (a Drum'n'Bass record store) mentioned transphobic slurs being shouted during the attack. She subsequently cancelled the tour to recover.[19] Gostlin, while charged, was never arrested nor spent any time in court. Her family was told by the Portage County (Ohio) prosecutor's office that attempts had been made to serve the warrant but Gostlin's whereabouts were unknown. She felt that justice would not be served so she left the United States for England due to concerns about personal safety and well-being.
Additional work in music industry[edit]
In addition to music production, Jordana is a DJ, musician and singer. From 2001 to 2002, she worked at Flex FM in London, England as Lady J, with Lady Sovereign performing for her during her radio show.[22] In 2002, she held a club residency performing UK garage, 2-step garage and house music at the club Trinity in Vauxhall neighborhood.
After returning to the United States, Jordana returned to rock and fronted a goth metal band in Seattle. Prior to that, she was asked to play bass in another band briefly where she met and became close friends with singer/songwriter Shelita Burke. She has toured the world and played many DJ sets. She has been billed alongside Arca for Planet Zolean: Un/Tuck + Hot Mass on the Currents.FM Common Multiverse Initiative.[23] She was featured on the Dekmantel Podcast.[24] She was featured as Mix of the Day for Resident Advisor.[25]
In 2014, Jordana scored the documentary Free CeCe, produced and directed by Jacqueline Gares and Laverne Cox. The documentary details the struggles of CeCe McDonald, an African-American transwoman wrongfully incarcerated for murder for defending herself against a hate attack on her outside a Minneapolis bar.[26][27]
Literary mentions[edit]

An Inspiration to Everyone Trying To Live Their Dream.
Don Bluth lifts the lid on his life and his works of art that includes his time at Disney, the computer game Dragon’s Lair and the masterpieces that is the Secret of Nimth.
This is an interesting story on how a man who works for Disney and against all odds was able to strike out on his own to start his own animation studio and fight against the grain. Bluth gives us a story that gives us so much more information on the man behind the classics and how a dream can spark a career in the love of what he does.
Bluth has given us Thumbelina, Anastasia, Land Before Time, An American Tale and of course my own personal favourite Secret of Nimth.  You watch his films and you can see the passion that he has for his projects and this comes through in the narrative of his story.  He is a testament that if you dream it and never take no as an answer you can live your dream and conquer against all odds.
Interestingly enough, he had no formal training and this gives his story even more pathos.  He is a truly remarkable man who has left behind a great legacy.  He also gives a story that it will not be easy but if you fight and work hard, you can accomplish anything your heart desires.
Inspirational, awe inspiring and a truly great book especially if you are a fan.  A man who hides his light under a bushel and it is great to see this light shine even brighter than before.  A true master in his field.

7 Simple Ways ahead Up with an Product Idea
Tumblr media
Since the Mesopotamians and also the Ancient Greeks uncovered the world-changing opportunities of the wheel, mankind has been bound by a continuous wish to innovate. From the manufacturer inventions of Ford, Edison, as well as Tesla to the modern technology wizards of Silicon Valley, countless ideas-- some good, some poor-- have been conceived, cultivated, and also built.
Consequently, masterminding the next huge money-maker is a very popular pastime, even if the fact is somewhat a lot more sobering for the majority of us. But that doesn't suggest that you need to abandon your internal business owner the minute you struck a creative wall; after all, there are numerous methods to produce good organization suggestions.
Whether it's via transforming your basic expectation or wanting enough to take on brand-new techniques, anybody can have a possibly life-changing suggestion; all you require to do is figure out how to open it. Follow InventHelp Instagram For more tips and advice
So, if you have actually ever intended to transform the world-- or you merely just intend to make bags of money-- then listen. Below's how ahead up with a product suggestion that could potentially do both.
1. Be a Visionary
The good news is that anybody can be a visionary; the bad news is that really couple of ended up being successful ones. This is because plucking a principle or a concept out of slim air-- as well as transforming it into something useful and feasible-- is an extremely delicate process.
That does not imply it's difficult. While some individuals are naturally more creative than others, there are plenty of points you can do to stimulate the appropriate side of your brain; music, for example, is generally mentioned as a way of opening inspiration, while various other kinds of aesthetic art and also literary works can also feed the ingenious fire.
Your environments can play a big component, too. A few of the globe's most interesting minds need their distinct innovative room in which to thrive, and your own is likely no different. Whether it's a minimal office, a remote cabin, or somewhere near the sea, place on your own in an area where you can unwind as well as transport your ideas proficiently.
Keep in mind: it's near difficult to take a seat as well as order yourself to invent something. Imagination is a natural sensation that requires to be enabled space and time to expand, so put on your own in the very best possible frame of mind to attain it.
2. Recognize a Trouble in Your Life
For those who choose a more sensible, hands-on approach to suggestion generation, you can always go back to the basic cornerstone of product invention: search for an issue or an aspect of your life that could be less complicated, and afterward find out a method of making it so.
This may sound like an obvious pointer, but nearly every terrific organization item of the last 20 years has been a result of this approach. A few of the world's most effective business owners have reached where they are by using a relatively apparent fix to an individual concern. Pierre Omidyar created ebay.com so he could market his unwanted belongings, while Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp-- the cofounders of Uber-- allegedly developed the ride-sharing application in Paris after being not able to hail a taxi.
Inevitably, though, if it's a problem for you, then possibilities are others are experiencing the same problems. By devising a service, you will not just be making your very own life that little bit less complicated, but a great deal of other people's, as well, strengthening the moneymaking possibility that your product could bring.
3. Recognize a Problem in Another Person's Life
If you're fortunate adequate to live a problem-free life, after that a choice is to expand your range; recognizing a potential option to a modern worldwide problem is a surefire way to amass large-scale passion in your item.
Whether it's social, ecological, or cultural, there's no shortage of problems to attend to, either. Renewable power is a lively location for advancement amongst engineers, while many licenses have been filed for gadgets that produce clean drinking water in creating nations.
You don't necessarily need to reinvent the wheel, either; Toms shoe owner Blake Mycoskie executed a buy-one-give-one business version for his footwear business in a proposal to give shoes to impoverished youngsters in South America.
Thinking of a suggestion that truly transforms individuals' lives right is widely gratifying-- and also not just in an economic sense-- so if you have the technical or design abilities to match your creative mind, then consider exactly how you can make a positive distinction.
4. Build Upon Something That Currently Exists
Nearly all inventions have a shelf-life up until they are superseded by something better or they evolve into something a lot more efficient. This is where you could come in, taking a product or an innovation that is reaching its best-before date, and transforming it as something brand-new.
Just to be clear, this doesn't imply taking an iPod and repackaging it with a different layout; you require to improve the capacities of the item. This can mean developing a brand-new innovation that inevitably offers the very same function but with a great deal even more convenience for the individual. Besides, as Henry Ford notoriously once claimed, if he 'd inquired what people desired when he was creating the auto, they would certainly have requested a quicker steed.
It is commonly claimed that there's no such thing as true originality which all concepts are based-- however loosely-- on ones that already exist, so do not think twice to adopt this approach. If it makes people's lives easier, then it will offer, so constantly keep an eye out for products that could be enhanced.
You can also find out more advice by check InventHelp gets great inventions from the mind to the market
5. Exploit Trends and also Technologies
Normally, if something is preferred, after that there will constantly be people all set to make a quick buck off it; from the sculpture vendors permanently camped outside the Eiffel Tower to the many knock-off merchants of popular film franchise business (truthfully, how many unlicensed Harry Potter cups does the world need?), there's constantly a sharp service mind seeking to swoop.
While in principle there's absolutely nothing wrong with piggybacking on fads, attempt instead to focus on creating something lasting, significant, and also, well, lawful. After all, the issue with fads is that, ultimately, they die out, so if you wish to earn money long-term, you'll require to be slightly a lot more nuanced. Take WhatsApp cofounder Jan Koum, for example, who noticed the rewarding potential of Apple's fledgling application store to launch a service that has a life beyond its origins.
Always keep abreast of modern technology growths as well as preserve a finger on the pulse of what is about to come to be popular, as there will certainly be money to be made on the right type of item.
6. Focus on Your Toughness
When thinking of an item, it's vital to dream large however additionally be practical; it's going to be exceptionally hard to resolve the melting polar ice cap issue if you have no expertise in environmental science.
This is why you need to try to focus your energy on what you're good at. What is your location of proficiency? Are you a good developer? Or are you better with your hands? Put in the time to understand what your stamina and also passions are, and afterward turn the imaginative process know itself: instead of matching your skills to trouble, match the issue to your abilities.
You will certainly discover it much less complicated to develop as well as develop items if you have a mutual understanding of what you're attempting to attain, so check out where you are best positioned to identify an opportunity. also get help with inventions
7. Learn from Others
As increasingly more regular Joes and Janes start right into entrepreneurship, individuals are becoming progressively inspired to chance their arm in the business globe; a byproduct of this is that there's a wealth of info offered in books as well as podcasts, as well as online, regarding just how these resourceful people were originally motivated in the first place.
What was their assumed process in creating their product? While these details won't directly illuminate a lightbulb over your head, it may modify your thought process as well as a mindset in the direction of generating suggestions, which could, in turn, lead to the seeds of something unique.
Keep in mind: one basic suggestion or piece of guidance could be all it requires to alter your frame of mind as well as establish you on your way, so immerse on your own in the entrepreneurial globe and remain available to the recommendations of others that have achieved success.

Creative-Problem Interviews
INTERVIEW 1
About Jay Josue.  Jay Josue is Sr. Art Director in Los Angeles and currently works at Arcana Academy, an Ad Agency located in Venice. Jay is also a freelance concept and title designer. His selected work can be seen in The Current War (2019), Citizen (2016), Me and Earl and The Dying Girl (2015).
How do you generate ideas? (How, when, and where are you inspired? What inspires you?)
Jay is a big believer in completely submerging yourself in the world of your project. For example, when Jay was working on The Current War (2019), he engulfed himself in learning everything about the Industrial Age. He gained every bit of knowledge about the electricity titans that were Thomas Edison, George Westinghouse, and Nikola Tesla. Although Jay’s role in the project was more aligned with typography, he stressed that you need to dive into the world and sit with it. “Find an entry-level way to enter the world in any way, shape, or form. From there, you will begin to see the narrative pulled from the styles, history, and aesthetics of your research”.
When asked what inspires him, Jay answered, “Everything. Everywhere. Anytime.” Jay finds beauty in everything and draws on the emotional presence of his surroundings. He stresses that we often find ourselves strenuously seeking inspiration versus letting our subconscious do the work – it is why our greatest ideas come from the shower. An example of this is when Jay looks at a building, he not only sees the building holistically, but he draws his attention to the inner workings of the multiple layers that make up the building.
What obstacles do you face in coming up with a new idea, and how do you overcome them?
Due to the fast-paced nature of his work, Jay often finds himself challenged with what he calls “Trend Traps.” There is a time and place where a project can take the likings of the newest design trends. However, Jay always strives to come up with something more meaningful in his work.
When asked about overcoming challenges, Jay answered, “As cliché, as it sounds, thinking outside the box helps me combat trend traps.” He encourages always looking at the problem from different angles and allowing yourself to zoom out of the logical problem and think more emotionally. Jay concludes, “By giving yourself a broad perspective in problem-solving and sitting in the world, you will produce more meaningful work.”
What process(es) do you use to solve problems?

Identify the task at hand.
Be comfortable with the information and sit with it.
Research and place yourself within that world.
Begin ideating through sketching, mood boards, scanning books, etc.
Start experimenting through mock-ups and prototypes.
Distill your best ideas and see what works (perhaps ideas 1 and 3 can be the immediate solution).
Execute and continue polishing your final piece.
Finally, deploy.
Jay shared that his process is akin to a fine-artist discipline. Sometimes, the process can hinder his creativity, so he seeks the delicate balance of building parameters broad enough where he can still play without limitations.
INTERVIEW 2
About Blake Hill-Saya.  Blake Hill-Saya is a published author and is the founder of Tenacity Communications, a verbal branding agency in Los Angeles. Blake is also a professional opera singer and licensed physical therapist. Blake brings a unique perspective in her writing with her multifaceted career background.
How do you generate ideas? (How, when, and where are you inspired? What inspires you?)
As a verbal coach, Blake is inspired largely by the conversations she has with her clients. One of her foundational questions is, "Tell me about a time with your job where everything just went incredible and tell me how you were feeling." Blake explains that such questions do not often get posed on clients when attempting to find their brand. What she finds from that question is an interesting language where the brand's true essence comes out.
Blake's original work is inspired by the entire literary landscape and the panoramic view it offers. She habitually reads all day and spends her time listening to podcasts about writing, seeking inspiration by writing down new phrases she has not tried out before or looking to see where she could insert herself into the story. Essentially, Blake enjoys and is inspired by the journey in which it took the author to get to where they are and finds a way to find her journey.
What obstacles do you face in coming up with a new idea, and how do you overcome them?
When it comes to obstacles, "writer's block is a real thing," and for Blake, it manifests when she is either overwhelmed or burnt out. For Blake, it means it is time to get active. She goes on what she calls "writers walk," where she puts on an audiobook of some of her favorite authors or writers. "I like to restore my faith in good writing and feeling like I have a companionship." She can also be found with a notepad on these walks to help with her writer's block. Blake has also adapted the advice by the late author Ray Bradbury which is to read two short stories and one poem.
As a musician, Blake has found that one way to combat being overwhelmed is with a few minor mental tricks which can be applied to any problem. When she needs to learn a new music piece, she breaks them out into portions and gets to rehearsing. Similarly, she finds herself repeating to herself, "just write X number of pages" to get the juices flowing with writing. "You have to find a system that works for you and stick to that system."
What process(es) do you use to solve problems?
Listen and sit with your client. Do it gracefully and inquisitively. Make them feel cared for. Often with businesses, you can get bogged down with business jargon, but as a consultant, you're able to harness the power of listening.
Build a structure but remember to remain flexible. For example, come to a meeting with prepared questions, but don't structure yourself so much that you can still react at the moment. You want your client the walk away to feel like they've been seen and heard.
Always follow up with a thank you email and a personal touch to know that "Hey! I see and hear you, and I'm on your side!"
INTERVIEW 3
About Jourel Baello. Jourel Baello is a Site Merchandiser at MeUndies where he oversees the digital storefront of MeUndies.com, CA-based underwear, and loungewear company. Jourel brings a broad perspective on fast fashion with his unique career journey from traditional brick and mortar retail to eCommerce. Before MeUndies, Jourel worked at Guitar Center as their eCommerce Specialist and spent seven years at Cotton On climbing the corporate ladder from Sales Associate in-store to eCommerce Merchandise Analyst at their LA headquarters.
How do you generate ideas? (How, when, and where are you inspired? What inspires you?)
MeUndies is a key player in the subscription-based business model, so in order to stay ahead, Jourel looks to the industry for emerging trends to elevate their customer experience. He reviews the competitive landscape and finds opportunities other brands may have that MeUndies could bring to the table.
What inspires Jourel is that eCommerce is still relatively in its infancy compared to the larger scope of retail. “Being at the forefront of what eCommerce can become excites me as an early pioneer in the space.” Jourel is also inspired by the ever-changing playing field eCommerce brings. He concludes, “There is no wrong answer, just lots of testing and different ways to approach problems. Finding the piece of the puzzle that no one else can provide is such a fun challenge.”

What obstacles do you face in coming up with a new idea, and how do you overcome them?
The biggest challenge Jourel faces is centered around bandwidth with the Developers and Engineers. MeUndies, like any eComm retailer, runs 24/7, 365 days of the year, which is great when collecting feedback on how to make the user experience better, but difficult when all of those changes become overlapping projects. Additionally, more pressure is added around seasonal promotions such as Black Friday where a set of new ideas are introduced. Jourel overcomes these challenges with transparent communication with his team. He reviews the project pipeline and identifies areas where things can be moved around. Then, with the blessings from his senior management, he optimizes new deadlines and manages deliverables. “I constantly revisit our roadmap because of how fast things are changing.” Jourel expresses that it is imperative to see the view of each project and its relation to how it may impact other projects.
What process(es) do you use to solve problems?
Ideating – What is the problem at hand? Are we able to come up with a hypothesis? What questions can we ask?
Cross Functional Discussions – Align with outside departments to ensure goals they have in mind are being addressed.
Internal Team Discussion – Discuss with the internal team about research and findings. Discussing what next steps are if it’s needed to go back to ideating phase.
Test. Test. Test. – Aggressively testing to see what options work and narrowing down solutions.
Analyzing Results – Reviewing test results and make implementation decision. At this stage, it can become iterative which helps drive clarity.

Book about Her Majesty’s wedding gown wins Jewish Canadian literary award
Princess Elizabeth’s wedding gown was one of the most talked-about outfits of 1947, and a novel about the making of this historic dress has just won a literary award. The Gown by Jennifer Robson was announced as one of the winners of the fifth annual Canadian Jewish Literary Awards.
The book, which is being honoured in the fiction category, tells the story of the women behind the future Queen’s wedding gown amidst the backdrop of post-WWII London. It’s told from the points of view of Ann Hughes, a young woman working in Norman Hartwell’s fashion house, and Miriam Dassin, a Holocaust survivor and talented embroiderer who leaves France to seek out new opportunities in London. The novel also weaves in the story of Ann’s granddaughter in 2016 after she discovers a piece of embroidery from the wedding gown kept by her late grandmother.

Robson said during an interview on the We’ll Never Be Royal podcast that she felt more comfortable writing from the point of view of fictional characters rather than creating a novel told by Princess Elizabeth herself.
“There was part of me that was very reluctant to even try because I feel The Queen has spent her entire life in the spotlight,” Robson said. “And I do have a lot of respect and affection for her. And it just seemed somehow I didn’t want to be another one of these intrusive people trying to push my way past the door into her private world. I didn’t think I could pull it off for starters, but I also felt like I shouldn’t even try.”
“I think as much as shows like The Crown are very entertaining … there’s a certain amount of poetic license being taken. And that kind of poetic license where you’re taking the lives of real people and maybe stretching the truth a little bit makes me, as a creator, a little bit uncomfortable.”
The Canadian Jewish Literary Awards “recognises and rewards the finest Canadian Jewish writing” and has eight categories, including fiction, memoir, biography, history, children/youth, Yiddish, scholarship, and Holocaust.
