Hey, it's me, and I'm asking. Plz explain the dvr3 despair au playlist. Plzzzz
You got it!!
•New Americana by Hasely
This is one of the ones I listened to a bunch while first figuring out the au back in 2022! It’s mostly there for just general vibes for the whole cast
•I Love You Like An Alcoholic by The Taxpayers
This is one of the ones there for Kaito and Maki lol, hard to go wrong with evil ship-y songs
•P.S I Love You by Robin Sparkles
One of the most Remnant Tenko songs ever lol, every part of it fits, she’s going through it lol
•Mary On A Cross by Ghost
This one is there for Angie! Not necessarily for any specific lyrics but just for the vibes lol
•Villain by Stella Jang
Fully a Tsumugi song, largely because there’s a really cool animatic with her to that song on YouTube
•Murders by Miracle Musical
I put this one on there for Rantaro as Kamakura! It has the kind of unnerving vibes I like for him
•The Fine Print by The Stupendium
This just has generally good remnant vibes, and really most villains in general (it’s on my Carmen Sandiego playlist as well)
•The Red Means I Love You by Madds Buckley
Another Tenko one! Focusing on her fixation on Junko
•Killer Queen by Mad Tsai
This one just is for Junko lol, applicable for cannon as well
•Who is She? by I Monster
Also Junko, it’s a really neat song!
•Seventeen by Marina
This one’s there for Kirumi! I think at the time I was thinking it would be good for if the future foundation showed up and tried to reason with her and she was sort of arguing sort of explaining what happened
•Disobedient from Steven Universe
Another Kirumi one!
•Someone Gets Hurt from Mean Girls the Musical
I believe this one’s on there for Junko manipulating Kaito but I can’t fully remember
•Cough Syrup (Glee cast version)
First one we got for Himiko!
•Magic Dance by David Bowie
Another Himiko one, with the others as the goblins interjecting lol. Mostly it works because it mentions magic and that’s her whole thing lol
•Below The Surface by Griffinila
This one’s for everyone! I did an animation with part of it for the au and it was fun!
•Evil Like Me from Descendants
So this is in the context of remnant Tsumugi talking with the tsumugi ai that was put in the neo world program (the Chiaki equivalent) since the ai one isn’t actually in despair she’s just programmed that way lol
•Monster by Beth Crowley
I don’t remember who this was for specifically but really it could fit anyone lol
•We Will Rock You by Queen
I this one was a combo of characters with each verse being about someone else, I feel like Kaito and Kokichi were involved but really you could probably make anyone work
•All Star by Smash Mouth
Another that’s just for the group as a whole!
•Class Fight by Melanie Martinez
Tenko again! I’m pretty sure all the Tenko songs are related to her feelings for Junko lol
•Kiss With A Fist by Florence and the machine
This one if for both Tenko and Angie! Because they do not like each other one bit in the au lol (it also works Really Well for Kazuichi and Gundham lol)
•A Change Would Do You Good (Glee Cast Version)
Junko talking with the whole v3 group
•Don’t Speak (Glee Cast Version)
Gonna be honest I fully don’t know why this is on the playlist anymore lol
•Insane by Black Gryph0n
I think this was for everyone
•Cuphead the Musical by Random Encounters
This one’s for all the remnants planning on what to do with Makoto once the thh survivors defeated Junko
•That Beautiful Sound from Beetlejuice
Remnant Kaito and Maki >:3
•Boys Will Be Bugs by Cavetown
I think this might be the only Gonta song on the playlist, whoops?
•Brutal by Olivia Rodrigo
Another for the whole group! I did an animation for a bit of this one as well
•Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Whole group!
•Lay All Your Love On Me by Abba
Everyone talking about Junko lol
•Tricks Up My Sleeve by Trixie & The Illusions
Himiko!
•You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi
I think this is another about Junko
•Mad World by Tears for Fears
Whole group
•Dirty Night Clowns by Chris Garneau
Kokichi I think?
•& by Tally Hall
Just a good remnant song in general lol, for any group of them
•Welcome to the Circus
Kokichi again! I think largely Junko taunting him
•Watermelon by Queen Chimera
Tenko still thinking of Junko lol (when isn’t she)
•E.V.O.L by Marina
Any of the remnant ships, take your pick lol
•Hypnotic by Zella Day
Junko manipulating everyone!
•EVIL by Melanie Martinez
I’m afraid I can’t remember who this was for because more recently I put it on my Akuma playlist for miraculous ladybug (for Vanisher specifically) so now that’s all in an think lol
•Oleander by Mother Mother
Tenko about Junko
•Lights Out by Mindless Self Indulgence
Remnants in general, it’s a fun fight song
•Gross by Penelope Scott
And Tenko once again!

"Since Kaito told me such a wild story yesterday, I want to hear one from you too, Little Koko!" *ichi is as excited as ever as he rests against the side of yuta's bed, a few unread manga scattered around him*
"I'm sure you have lots of amazing adventures, especially since you're a super smart detective! Even if it's something small, I wouldn't mind hearing it! I want to know some of the crazy things you've seen!"
"Hm? A wild story from me?" Yuta looks up from one of the manga books he was reading and towards his uncle in surprise! "E-Ehehe, thank you. Y... Yeah, I guess you could say that. And "crazy" is putting it lightly, frankly. Let's see... oh, I suppose I could tell you some of the amazing abilities I was able to use during cases, thanks to my friends from Chief's Agency assisting me."
"Have I ever told you about Fortes, uncle? They are special abilities that some Master Detectives have. Mine is called Coalescence. Basically, after being given permission by a Forte haver to borrow their ability, I hold their hand to activate that power. For one of my first Kanai Ward cases where we had to solve several locked room mysteries around town, one of my detective partners had an ability where you can literally see the state of a crime scene in the past! It was very helpful in collecting clues and evidence that otherwise would have been gone."
"Then for another case where I was basically like a spy like Uncle Phanty, one of my other partners has an ability where he can disguise himself, and so for us to be able to investigate inside of an all-girl's high school, w-we... disguised ourselves as a high school girl, me, and a teacher; him. It was pretty embarrassing, aha..."
"My third case was probably the craziest of all, with having to defuse bombs in several different areas throughout the city, being chased around by Peacekeepers, and eventually: an entire district literally flooded from the water bank pipes being destroyed! We had to travel through all that with a boat and everything.... and my partner who helped me there, had the ability to rewind time several seconds back, literally!"
"And then when exploring the city's gigantic lab, the one I investigated with has an ability where you can practically turn yourself into a ghost, while your real body sleeps. E-Even for me, it's still so unbelievable when that happened.... but yeah, it really goes to show just how amazing Fortes are, huh? And that I can borrow their abilities if they let me. If using RPG terms, I guess it's like my own special magic power? Ah, and speaking of which... out of all my detective partners and friends, I have one special one who was by my side through it all. She... um...doesn't exactly live where you can easily visit her, but if you two could meet... I know you'd get along wonderfully. She's a big Dragon Quest fan like you are! And while always loves to drive me crazy, I wouldn't replace herself with anything else in the world. She... is the reason I was even able to go on those wild 'adventures' through Kanai Ward like I did. I owe her a lot."
Tumblr media
("Aww, Master~!") Blushing, Shinigami brushes up against him, making the Koko chuckle!
Then realizing how long he's been going on, his cheeks turn just the slightest red as he scratches his cheek~ "O-Oh man, sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on so much! I know a lot of this sounds insane, even compared to Kaito's adventures, but it was thanks to everyone helping me, that I was even able to solve such bizarre cases. Nowadays, I do a lot more normal cases ever since leaving that city, which I'm definitely not complaining about. But it'd be nice to see all my friends I met there, again, sometime... Thanks for listening, Uncle Ichiban! I hope I was able to meet your expectations and tell you some exiting things!"

What the fuck just happened ← just watched the ai no scenario mv
OUSHAHDGKAHDJSHSHGD IM SORRY BUT THIS IS HILARIOUS love scenario is still continuously notorious for having a very confusing plot but due to the fact that ive been obsessed w it for years i will now willingly infodump the whole story to u rn .
OK STARTING OFF THE BAT the song was written as an opening for magic kaito hence some od the elements. the song is basically a portrayal of "love's scenarios" as it unfolds in different ways in different periods of the song.
the general gist of the first half is about a love triangle between two men — a commoner and a nobleman — who are pursuing the same girl. the commoner seems to be genuinely close to her heart and holds feelings of wanting to free her from the situation she was forced upon. we can see the nobleman proposing to her in the veey beginning of the story, and in the latter parts we see him glower at and abuse her as her husband so or so. the nobleman catches the commoner sneaking up on the tree to share a few moments of genuine freedom with the girl — and simultaneously witnessing the state she was living with in the house and it brews a bout of heavy tension between the two parties.
so finally, in the moonlit night, the commoner made his decision. he sneaks up to the girl's room and whispers a plea for them both to escape. and so they did. they make a run for it, narrowly avoiding the wrath of the nobleman whose ruby necklace glitters in his fury. the commoner swore to the girl that he would always protect her, no matter what.
at some point during their misadventure, the two of them find themselves sleeping on the grounds, blissfully in peace, hands intertwined as though the world revolved around that one moment.
and here, it shifts. here we see two new individuals, a blonde haired girl and a dark-haired boy, both in their school uniforms. this is where things get tricky. it seems the blonde haired girl has intimate feelings for the other, and the boy somewhat reciprocates it, referencing perhaps the tale of the two lovers in the previous scenario.
they are then scolded by a delinquent-ish blonde haired boy, who reprimands them for playing in the grass. further into the scenario, the blonde haired boy angrily grabs the shorter man by the collar, his reasons unknown but his threatening gaze piercing through. the girl comes to the dark-haired boy's defense, calling the delinquent boy a douchebag (yea she does shush).
here we see a glimpse of it. a familiar, scarlet pendant hanging on a schoolboy's neck. a memory of the first scenario soon to shape the next.
we return to the girl, who comforts her crush earnestly. such an experience seems to have drawn them both closer, much to the disdain of the other boy. but of course, not all stories are meant for immediate happy endings.
"i bet if i told her i loved her, she'll be like 'me too!' hah...stupid bitch." (jubyphonic cover)
these are the words we hear from the dark haired boy, the crimson jewel of a familiar pendant hanging on his neck. and thus, the truth comes to light. the girl was being played all along, her genuine feelings toyed with for the other's entertainment. perhaps a sick form of revenge, borne from an instinct of a betrayal long since past? we get a glimpse further, of the blonde boy defending the girl from the other, the image of wrath the girl had attempted to thwart had been seeking to protect her all along.
regretting her actiond, she flees the scene, only to bump into a familiar figure. the blonde haired boy.
now, listen close, as this is the climax of it all.
"say that theyre all against you, say that there's no one on your side. hear when i say, "just take my hand", trust me you can."
"you'll always be by my side, now that i know what's true, i'll fight."
"through every scene and every life, with these hands of the night."
"i promised i would protect you no matter what, right?"
and here we come to the catalyst of it all, the commoner boy who had stolen the girl from her hellish life continued to protect her, even in the next life they lived. he had fulfilled his promise, that through every scenario, their love would tower over whatever wickedness the world had thrown.
in the final conclusion, we see the two of them face the wearer of the ruby necklace, who claimed he was "tired of waiting". the story begans to rewind as we return to the blonde girl, who awoke from her slumber beside her lover.
before i end i should probably explain this legibly but basically the girl ran away with her lover away from her fiance/husband idk because he was abusing her, and in their escape, they fell asleep together in a chapel-ish thing and the girl wakes to a new consciousness in the modern world, with little recollection of the past aside from the lingering memory of a hand that held hers amongst the trials they faced a promise made to protect her no matter what. the girl concludes that the dark haired boy beside her could perhaps be the incarnation of the lover that visited both their memories, and grows to develop feelings for him, which he seemingly reciprocates. in the other end of this tale is the delinquent boy, seen as the villain for attacking the dark haired boy without reason, in the eyes of the girl. eventually, we see the true colors shine through, as the dark haired boy reveals himself to be wearing the ruby necklace that adorned the nobleman, a symbol that he was the same person taken modern form. much like the past scenario, we see the girl's feelings hurt and toyed with, taken advantage of without reason by the same person. and in the same sense, we witness it again, the promise that transcended lifetimes and memories, the delinquent she imagined as a cruel person was no other than the lover who sought to protect her smile. and true to his word, through every scene and life, he has and will protect her from everything, including the nobleman whose wrath had chased him up till now. in the end, we see him converse with the dark haired boy, saying that he was taking the girl now, to which the dark haired boy remarks that he was tired of waiting. this is a remark that says now, they'll begin the scenario again, of the two gaining an impossible love and being thwarted by the nobleman. and thus, the world resets into the eyes of the blonde haired girl from the first scenario.
the whole story is the coalescence of two scenarios, the past and the future, and the enactment of a promise to protect and care no matter what. thus the line:
"through every scene and every life, with these hands of the night."
a love scenario that goes on for the rest of their lives, an everlasting proof of a devotion to one another that transcends all bounds. no matter the scene or life, they would always be together, especially now that they had returned to their original forms. the scenario of the students had yet to begin, and it will be a while before it becomes their turn to prove their love to the world until the end.
for now, the scenario of love continues, a beginning that blossoms into a love, forever lasting.
no matter the world, the time, the life, if to preserve the happiness the world would never let us have, i'll fight. in every scenario, in every moment, for your smile and to repeat the love we hold so dear, i will fight.

CCS: Clear Card Ch. 61
Happy Belated CLAMP DAY!!
I wanted to read the chapter on April 1 but ended up being really busy. I did listen to CCS playlist that FlyingDog tweeted about, and wahhhh CCS songs so nostalgic. I also totally did not end up spending more money ordering CLAMP merch CCS Clear Card vol. 12 special edition. Anyways~the latest chapter is currently available on CLAMP-net’s YouTube Channel. As always, do check out @meimi-haneoka's post on the latest chapter for EN-JPN translation differences.
Links for previous chapter reactions can be found here.
Reactions:
Akiho & Sakura on the colored page! So spring! So lovely ♥
WAIT! IT'S LIELIE AND NADESHIKO!!
This is so gorgeous!! Omgsh!! I'm just spazzing out of joy!!!
Also me one second later: feelig SAD because we won't see the girls and their moms together forreal because... yeah TUT
That dream of Sakura facing MCF is totally not ominous... >_>
THE BEGINNING OF THE END!!! To think that this series was going to be a "short series" when we read the first chapter and saw these very lines...
To think there can be anymore to happen in the dream to make me feel even MORE uneasy for the day we get this real confrontation... we have Sakura's outfit being teased...
Father & daughter moment! Precious times!
Awww they're talking about Nadeshiko. Fujitaka is speaking of her sooooo fondly ahhhh!!! I'm... tearing up!
"The only person for me" line again TuT
Not surprised that Akiho's having a similar moment.
Kaito holding back from the headpat is just... =_= why do you do this to yourself man...?
Oh! Is this Akiho experiencing the resonance/synchronization from Sakura's end??
Wait... did Akiho always know about magic... for some reason I thought she had her memories erased/repressed or...??
Akiho T_T
Kaito fist-clench. I would want to shake my angry fist too ><
YES! THOSE FOOLS! Call them what they are!!
Wait... both her parents like chocomint?? *squints*
Oh man... so Kaito's doing all this out of guilt too...?
Two new cards! Resembling Touya & Fujitaka!
~~
Thoughts:
Man, this chapter is just entirely a parallel between Sakura-Fujitaka and Akiho-Kaito. But one end is full of wholesome sweetness (with a bit of sad) and the other end is just full of bitter sadness TuT
1. I need to focus more on the Kaito-Akiho exchange. Oh man, I had to check back older notes and also @meimi-haneoka's post on this chapter to confirm that this was the first time Akiho openly talks about her clan (and her knowledge of magic). I remember those flashbacks from when she was younger too, but I thought she was probably feeling disconnected from those memories because she repressed them or something. But gosh, seeing her say those things and repeating what her clan members have told her. That's just SO CRUEL of them! The whole if they had known Akiho would be like this then they wouldn't have introduced her parents. Won't go into details, but I personally experience something similar, so I feel this on a very personal level.
I think the worst of it is Akiho recounting all these things, thinking that Kaito's not aware of the situation, when in fact he is! And wow, all of this is just making Kaito so much more angrier and upset--at both Akiho's clan, and also himself, especially because he's soooo much more aware of everything. A lot of things are starting to connect and make so much sense. The extent that Kaito is going in order to change things because at the time when he thought he was helping Akiho (by dismissing her and saying she's powerless, like a blank book, in hopes that they'll just exile her to a normal life), he ended up... ruining her chance at happiness/normal life. He basically feels that he's condemned her with his words and she's on the verge of losing her soul. Wow. For Kaito, Akiho is the daughter of the one person who pretty much opened/changed his view of the world. Knowing that his words is causing her to being subject to this, of course there's extreme guilt! I think it just got worse over time because no doubt Kaito has become so fond of Akiho (and feels love for her obviously) over the years, but there's this thing at the back of his mind telling him how he needs to fix this, or makes him feel unworthy of her because he's the reason why her life is heading the direction it's heading. HENCE ALL THOSE TIMES HE'S LITERALLY HOLDING BACK HIS HAND! His motivation makes SO much more sense now because he's placing all that blame on his very own words, so he doesn't even care if he ends up sacrificing himself in order to save her soul. This knife cuts deep.
EDIT: Forgot to add this but something in my gut tells me that the "accident" which resulted in the death of Akiho's parents... is no ordinary accident...
I'm hoping that when everthing gets resolved at the end--without death of any additional characters (my fear)--that Kaito will be able to be more like himself, and be able to tell Akiho stories everyday about everything he knows about Akiho's mother (and father, though that's prob limited info for him lol).
2. The confusion I have over the chocomint thing is because Lilie mentioned that the one she likes, does not like chocomint. Pretty sure it's not a mistake on CLAMP's end. So maybe they just said that because it's information they're not sure about... maybe they just remember seeing her father eating a lot of chocomint because Lilie likes chocomint.
3. And finally: The new cards are Choice and Freedom. It'll be interesting to see what these cards will do in the future.
I just want to give everyone all the hugs because they deserve it.

I really like crossovers with Harry Potter or Harry Potter settings, especially when the character(s) from the other media discover they have magic but honestly, the funniest character to yeet into Harry Potter/Harry Potter setting would without a shadow of a doubt be Kuroba Kaito. Boy would be offended to have magic! Like yeah it's cool and shiny but he already has his own kind of magic that he "worked very hard for thank you very much". Plus "all wizard seems to be fucking dependent on magic dude I could knock any of them out with a punch and I'm really not a fighter" I mean I guess if it was an au Harry Potter setting then he would be more okay with it because he'd either grow up with it or discover it young but canon Kaito?? No. Nope nope nope never and it's just hilarious to think about!!

Syaoran and Kaito Analysis
So I’ve mentioned recently in a recent fanart and in my analysis of chapter 55, but I have noticed quite a few similarities between Syaoran and Kaito, and upon some observations, I have some theories, particularly in regards to how Kaito views Syaoran. I decided to delve into that a bit, so see under the cut for more! Warning: It’s long. I wrote a lot. >.<
Tumblr media
 I have a lot to cover, so I thought it might be best to outline in the most simple way possible some things we already know about Kaito.
 ·         He was born gifted with incredible magic. His parentage is unknown and he was “alone for as long as he could remember”.
·         It’s unclear where Kaito originated from, but it seems he spent a majority of his life in England.
·         He has moon based magic and has a wide variety of talents, but specializes in time magic. It’s unclear if he already had a skill with time magic or if this was obtained after he met Momo. It seems implied that he made a magical contract with her and maybe gained his time abilities from this. But we do know he has the ability to fly, to locate objects, teleport, to talk to animals, and to make something vanish in a mere moment.
·         He is also talented in housekeeping skills, such as sewing, cooking, etc.
·         He used to be very cold hearted and preferred spending time alone. Kaito changed considerably in personality at some point in his life. It is uncertain exactly what caused this change, but it seems likely that Akiho’s mother was the catalyst for this.
·         He is part of a very powerful group of magicians called as we know it ‘The Association’ and is revered as one of its most powerful with the title ‘D’. He recently betrayed them and left, taking Akiho with him.
·         He protects and seems to care for Akiho
·         He is preparing for an event labeled as “that time” and needs Sakura to create a specific card.
·         He is putting himself in extreme physical danger for his goals, seemingly for Akiho’s sake.
·         He has been noted as always smiling to ‘hide his pain’.
 So when I look at all of these facts about Kaito, I noticed something interesting. Syaoran too could be described by almost all of these things. You might think “Wait a minute Chrissy! Kaito and Syaoran are nothing alike!”, but please hear me out.
Syaoran too was born gifted with incredible magic. He also draws his power from the moon (a connection that has already been pointed out by CLAMP) and has a knack for household skills as well, being very independent from a young age. Like Kaito, he was cold hearted in his earlier years, preferred to be alone (according to Meiling in the original 90’s anime in episode 43), and had a drastic change in personality later on, particularly after meeting Sakura. Syaoran is part of a very powerful group of magicians as well, the Li clan, and is one of the strongest within it and destined to be the next leader. Similarly, Syaoran too is preparing for some kind of event, a future seen by his mother, and is doing everything to prevent this, even if it causes him physical harm (as we’ve seen with him struggling to conjure the Sakura cards). In order to keep Sakura in the dark as to not worry her, he has been using a smile to ‘hide his pain’.
Now you may be wondering “Okay, so they have a few things in common, but they are still completely different!”. And you would be right. They are two completely different people after all, but try to think of them as two sides of the same coin. This beckons another question: How did two people who are so similar turn out so differently?
This is really where their differences in personality shine through, but part of it I believe is due to their backgrounds as well. For example, Kaito was picked up by the Association at a young age due to his skills with magic and was taken in to “use that magical power to accomplish their own tasks”. Based on their record of not having a great reputation, according to Eriol, and their treatment of Akiho by assisting her Clan in turning her into a magical device, it seems likely that Kaito was not treated kindly by anyone in the Association. In fact, he was probably left alone nearly all of the time unless his strengths were needed, and took care of himself in the remainder of that time. He was surrounded by people but still completely alone, and he preferred to be this way. This cold background of his really prevented him from being able to open up his heart to anyone. But he does seem to be much different around Akiho.
Syaoran, on the other hand, was surrounded by loving and caring family members. Although he preferred to be alone in his earlier years, he wasn’t actually alone at all. His mother was protective of him (like cutting his hair until he was strong enough to protect himself from things like scissors near his neck), and his sisters adored him and undoubtedly showered him with love at every opportunity. But even with that love from them, he was still somewhat cold hearted (though not as much as Kaito) until he met Sakura.
Their backgrounds do differ from each other, but I think the biggest difference in them of all is how they handle their feelings. When Syaoran first started to realize his feelings for Sakura, he struggled quite a bit and was in a great amount of denial, even physically running away at times when confronted with them. It was when he finally came to terms with his heart and confessed his feelings to Sakura that he underwent a great change and became the Syaoran we know today.
So what about Kaito?
Well, Kaito I believe is in that same stage of denial where he is refusing to come to terms with his feelings, whatever those may be. It’s clear that he cares about Akiho, but when she or Momo try to have a serious discussion with him or get him to talk about those feelings, he goes out of his way to change the subject (or once with Momo, actually fled at the first opportunity, which is just like Syaoran used to do!). It is something he is clearly uncomfortable with, and I think that is because it is unfamiliar territory for him. He is used to not feeling anything at all, so having to actually think about his feelings and reasons for doing things is unbearably frightening. He can handle any magical opponent any day (except Sakura of course), but being open and honest about his feelings? That’s another battle entirely that he doesn’t know how to handle without his magic to use as a crutch.
Momo mentioned in chapter 39 how Kaito had made a great deal of changes, all so that Akiho could live comfortably and pleaded internally “peer deep inside your heart. And don’t avert your eyes”. This was said again in chapter 51 when she stated “I implore you Yuna D. Kaito. Listen…to your heart”.
In the very next chapter, it is none other than Syaoran who has a discussion with Sakura about how his mother had told him “If you possess great magic power…when you feel pounding and stirring in your chest…you shouldn’t ignore it. You need to listen to your intuition. I think that goes for everyone, magic or no magic. I don’t think anyone should turn a blind eye to their own heart”. We also know that in that same conversation with his mother, thanks to the mini chapter provided with the special edition of volume 9, that Yelan said to him then “If there’s something you want to accomplish, then training with your spells is surely important, but...more than anything else, you have to face your heart”. She went on to tell him how important it was to listen to his heart and that “If you lie to yourself, you will sadden the person who loves you so dearly”.
And that, my friends, is the major reason for Syaoran and Kaito being so different despite their many similarities. One listens to his heart while the other adamantly turns away from it. This leads me to my next topic (thank you for anyone who has read this long into it. I appreciate it!), and that is in regards to Kaito’s feelings about Syaoran.
I have noticed that Kaito in general tends to act quite differently in regards to Syaoran than he does anyone else. It starts at the very first time they met, when they made their introductions. Despite working so diligently to keep himself hidden from Akiho and Sakura, he did the complete opposite with Syaoran. He had to have known that being able to sense his magic and being given his name and title, that Syaoran would go and research who he was. He wanted Syaoran in particular to know who he was, which I believe is also why he allowed him to speak with Eriol initially. I say allowed, because we know he clearly had the potential to cut off communications at any point in time, and he only stepped in to shut this down when Eriol started talking to the others (Kero and Yue). He clearly wanted to control what information people knew about him, and Eriol crossed a line. He also put spells on Syaoran that would not allow him to communicate with others about him, so again showing he wanted him to know about him, but not to be able to tell anyone else about him, especially Sakura.
Another occasion I found intriguing was chapter 34 in the scene with the pool. Kaito stopped time, but for some reason, allowed Syaoran to move freely as well. Why is this? He could have easily frozen Syaoran too, but he made a conscious decision to allow Syaoran to move.
Then we come to perhaps the most telling scene so far, which is the battle he and Syaoran had in chapter 41 and 42. In a moment where he could have easily stopped time and rewound so that Syaoran never approached him, he instead decided to have a full discussion with him and even go as far as to engage in battle with him in stopped time. In this ‘discussion’, he stated several facts that he knew about Syaoran, who was pointedly not responding to them and seemed solely focused on Sakura. Some of the details about him were probably common knowledge to the magical world, but some of them seemed oddly personal, such as him being a ‘diligent student’, as if to show he had been watching him for quite some time.
Something about the interaction was different than others. It was as if he was observing Syaoran in that moment to see how he would react to hearing certain things. He then mentioned after seeing Syaoran use the Sakura cards how rewriting a contract once written takes a toll on even the strongest magician and he said “Is this all…for Sakura too?”. I think what he was trying to say here is that he recognizes the efforts he’s making for Sakura and may even feel a connection to him because of his own efforts for his own wish.
In chapter 42, continuing on with this conversation, Kaito seemed ready to turn back time the moment he realized they were no longer alone and that Sakura was able to move, but he still had more to say. Syaoran reacted to Sakura calling out for him, and it was at this moment that Kaito said “You certainly are honest, aren’t you? One look at your face, and I know exactly what you’re thinking” (even Eriol made several comments about Syaoran’s honesty in the original series). Once again, he’s showing here that he’s observing Syaoran, but why? For what reason does he bring this up? I think he says this because it is something so foreign to him and fascinates him. Kaito is so used to hiding his feelings and being unable to express them, but Syaoran is the complete opposite in the fact that he can so easily show his feelings and it is not his nature to conceal them. Kaito followed this by bringing up that Syaoran had suppressed that honesty when he came to Japan, which we know was through his fake smiles (something he is all too familiar with). Yue also said to Syaoran in chapter 27 that he had been hiding behind a smile and ordinarily was much more unrestrained in how he expressed his emotions, no matter what that emotion may be.
I wonder if Kaito said this because he wondered “how is it that he’s able to be so honest?” or maybe he was trying to show that he understood his reasons for hiding behind a smile, pointing out the similarities between them; that they were not so different despite having different goals. Kaito’s next comment in particular is probably what caught my attention the most. He divulged the detail about how Syaoran suppressed his honesty particularly to try and prevent the future that his mother saw. Even Syaoran seemed surprised by this, and he had good reason to be! This was likely a very personal moment, one he hasn’t even told Sakura about yet, and this implies that he might have been there when this particular moment happened. It makes sense too, considering Akiho had stated in her very first appearance that she was in Hong Kong just before coming to Japan, meaning she and Kaito were certainly there at the same time Syaoran was, at least for a brief time. This means he probably saw all the effort he was putting in for Sakura’s sake and maybe this resonated with him. I think maybe he also saw how his older sisters, even though they had no magic of their own, are treated with respect in the Li clan, unlike Akiho with her own. Kaito has only ever known a world where those who are strong are used and those who are weak are deemed worthless (like Akiho), but yet Syaoran lives in a world where both live harmoniously. Sakura’s world in Tomoeda is the same as well and filled with kindness, far different from any other experience Kaito has had, and this must have been quite the culture shock! But more importantly, Syaoran and Sakura have all the things that he and Akiho never had.
Another interesting thing to note here is that Kaito was supposedly expelled from the association about a year ago due to stealing a powerful magical instrument that was forbidden to be taken (which we now know to be Akiho herself). And guess what else happened about a year ago? About a year ago, Syaoran went back to Hong Kong to handle his ‘important things’. Coincidence? Well, famously CLAMP series often say there is no such thing as coincidence...only hitsuzen.
Just as he is about to send another attack at Syaoran, he talks about how he and Syaoran both do not have the power of divination, but that “it is for the strong to decide…what the future holds in store for us all”. I think what he meant here is “Neither of us know how this is going to turn out, but the both of us are working hard for our own goals, so may the best man win”. However, before he could go any further, Sakura used TRANSFER to switch places, and he is both surprised by this, but quite quickly decides to end things and rewind time at this moment, indicating that he had not really wanted to engage with Sakura at all at this point in time. He had even stated at the beginning of chapter 42 that he had intended to keep her frozen and only have Syaoran able to move, meaning this whole situation had only been kept going for this long so that he could talk to Syaoran.
After rewinding time and talking to Akiho later that evening, he mentioned how Parent’s day was “quite illuminating”. This could have been said about his newfound knowledge of Fujitaka, but I also believe he learned quite a bit from Syaoran as well.
Now we finally get to the more recent chapters, like 54 and 55. While sitting together at the botanical garden, Kaito puts yet another spell on Syaoran to force him to smile against his will to avoid any suspicion. I feel like this was not just to keep the peace but also somewhat of a way to toy with and tease Syaoran. What better way to get under the skin of someone so honest and open with their feelings than to force them to hide these under a smile unwillingly? I think this was the mischievous side of Kaito showing and almost like a big brother teasing a little brother, but unfortunately for him, he pushed things too far with this, and not only did Sakura notice something was wrong, but this allowed the spell to be broken, and Syaoran wasted absolutely zero time saying the things he had been suppressed in saying before.
Cue to chapter 55, our most recent chapter. Sakura has managed to keep herself from being frozen in time, and she starts off with a few basic questions. The first one was if he knew about her being able to use cards. Kaito answered simply “Yes”. But when asked about if he knew about Syaoran, he gave two very specific details about him, particularly that he knew he was a gifted sorcerer and that he was the next head of the Li clan”. He could have just answered yes, the same way he responded in regards to Sakura, but instead he seems to have wanted Sakura to know in that moment that he knows a lot of information about Syaoran and not just that he can use magic. The two then exchange meaningful looks, and it’s right after this that she looks over to Syaoran and Akiho, looking almost worried. Now, it’s not clear what they were both thinking in this moment, and it’s possible that I am overthinking this one, but I find it fascinating that his answer was so detailed here, and I don’t feel like that was for nothing. Ohkawa has always been very thoughtful about the words she writes in her scripts, and I think this is no exception.
Anyways, I feel like we’ll get more definitive answers in the future, but I’m incredibly intrigued to see if there are any further and more concrete connections between them. I feel like CLAMP has done quite a bit to point out similarities between the two, and it should be a wild ride from here on out!!

Danganronpa V3 Pregame Headcanons
hey Y’all! I have an imagines post on the way, but in the mean time have some of my V3 headcanons
TW/CW: Almost All Pregame V3 Characters (Excluding Kaito, Shuichi, K1-B0, Tsumugi And Kaede), Mentions Of Abuse And Self-Esteem Issues, Mention Of Violence
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maki Harukawa Maki was always all for mindless violence, and what better place to be violent than a killing game. There were no other motivations behind her audition and she told the team just as much. She was thrilled when they told her that she would be the strongest character, unparalleled by even the martial arts masters of the previous seasons. However she was never told that they would be changing her motivations, making her broken and unwilling to kill. She went into the killing game hoping to come out on a mountain of corpses, to be feared by everyone in the outside world. She got her wish, just not in the way that she wanted.
Kokichi Oma Kokichi was a nervous boy, despite what he may tell you. He was constantly terrified of everything around him, but lied his way through life to convince everyone he was okay. He wasn’t sure why he auditioned for Danganronpa, maybe he wanted a place where his constant fear would be justified, maybe he wanted a new world to recreate himself in, maybe he just wanted an excuse to let it all out and break down. His one request of the team was to “make me more like myself but... better.” They listened to his request, making him more confident and snarky, but his constant lying had become such an extreme part of who he was, that the team kept it. After all, he asked to be himself.
Miu Iruma Miu was hopeless at romance. Well, not like she wanted actual romance anyway. All she wanted was for everyone to swoon at her presence and kiss the ground she walked on. She wanted to be a gorgeous celebrity, known and admired all over the world. The kind of celebrity that you would hardcore crush on for years. What better way to do that then to audition for the worlds most popular TV show. She wanted to be the fanservice character and asked the team as much. They complied with her request, but decided to take it a more comedic route, using all of the worst troupes and making her little more then a desperate mockery. She was the fanservice alright, but she will never be as widely loved.
Ryoma Hoshi Ryoma had been watching the show for as long as he can remember. He had always looked up to the strong-willed and awe-inspiring protagonists. He didn’t really have anyone else in his life to look up to, so he clung to these characters like glue, using them almost as a guide on how to live. “What would Makoto do here? How would Hajime handle this?” When he heard that there were auditions for the new season, he did everything he could to get an audition. When the team asked him about what kind of character he wanted to be, he just repeated over and over about how he wanted to be the protagonist. He wanted to be an inspiration to people. He asked this of them so much that they casted him as a weak-willed character with nothing to live for. They had already chosen their protagonist and his constant inquiries had made them grow petty against him.
Rantaro Amami Rantaro had never had a good relationship with his family. His parents gave him a boat to live on when he was old enough and them seized all contact. He had sisters, in fact he was the only son, but all of his sisters had moved across the world for college and none of them really left on a good note with him. His only chance at a new life, and therefore a new family, was auditioning for Danganronpa, The only request he made was that he be an only child and an orphan. This was an odd request so the team pried for more information, and his story gave them a very interesting idea.
Korekiyo Shinguji Kiyo hated humanity. he hated it to the point of it being an intense obsession. To him, it was full of heartless people who would do nothing but take advantage of him, while everyone else just stood by and refused to believe him. people would get close enough to him for him to consider them family, only for them to shatter his trust and leave him broken. he wanted an escape from it all, and he wanted the recognition that would get people to believe him. he thought auditioning for the show would get enough attention that he could finally share his story, he was desperate to join and he made the team aware of it. He didnt want to be loved or hated, he just wanted to be memorable, and the team happily complied.
Kirumi Tojo Kirumi felt useless. For her entire life she had been told to “get out the way” or “just let me do it, you’re messing it up.” She felt like every time she tried to help, she just ended up making the situation worse. It did severe damage to her self esteem and she ended up not even being able to do things for herself, becoming extremely dependant of those around her. She had heard of Danganronpa, everyone had, but she never thought she would be much good in a killing game. She had no intention of auditioning until she heard that they would be completely changing your personality and give you your own ultimate talent. She went to the audition room and asked to be cast as the ultimate maid. “I just want to be helpful. I want everyone to be able to rely on me for once.”
Angie Yonaga Angie was the type to idolise those with power, and she wanted nothing more than to have that same level of power for herself. She fawned over the antagonists from previous seasons, holding them on a pedestal. She had always been adamant that she would be one day get into a season of Danganronpa and become the most powerful antagonist yet. She wanted to manipulate and twist the other participants to her will, and walk out of the killing game without having raised a finger. She wanted to put herself on the highest pedestal of all, towering above those that she idolised for so long. When auditioning, she tried her hardest to prove how good of an antagonist she would be. All of her talk of manipulation and basically wanting to be a god gave the team a great idea.
Gonta Gokuhara Gonta was a fearless man, which fit his intimidating build. He wasn’t scared of heights, or the dark, or ghosts. He wasn’t even afraid of death, making him a great candidate for a killing game. He had been introduced to Danganronpa when some friends of his wanted to see just how far his lack of fear went. He had been watching the show ever since, always commenting about how they shouldn’t have hesitated and “I would be so much better at this than those wimps.” Upon hearing that auditions were being held for the next season, Gonta’s friend’s held him to that statement and pushed him to audition. The team were impressed with his courage, but were persistently prying for any kind of phobia they could get out of him. They eventually got one. Bugs. They knew exactly what to do with this information.
Himiko Yumeno Himiko loved attention. All she ever wanted was to be the centre of the world and have everyone know her name. She spent her life wishing she had the talent of an ultimate so she could use it to become famous all over the globe. She spent years trying to decide what talent she could have that would give her the best chance of drawing a crowd. She eventually decided on magic, seeing how magicians could awe people of any age. She waited for years to find the opportunity to audition, and when it finally came she took it quickly. She was adamant that she wanted to be the best magician, and she wanted everyone to know it. The team saw the opportunity and made her so good at magic, that not even she believed they were tricks anymore.
Tenko Chabashira Tenko was weak. That was a fact that she couldn’t deny. She could never quite get the hang of fighting and never had any way to defend herself. This led her to surrender easily when threatened, even pushing other people under the bus just so she could escape unharmed. She had always envied that characters in her favourite show, how they were all so much stronger than her both physically and mentally. She swore that if she ever got the opportunity to be in a killing game, she would be stronger. She didnt care how hard she had to fake it, she would definetly convince her classmates that she was not someone to be messed with. She was nervous when she heard about the auditions, but decided to give it a go. She told the team about how all she ever wanted was to be strong and they complied, taking full advantage of the fact that she had no other requests.

Female v3 cast with a voice actor s/o
Tumblr media
【Kaede Akamatsu】
• In short, Kaede admires you a lot!
• She's really proud that you can so easily change your voice without fail and how you sound exactly like the character you are voicing
• Sometimes when she's playing piano you will join in by singing a song
• At times she'll join in on the song and it's like a sweet bonding experience between y'all
• You and her trade lessons in you guys spare time!
• Like there are times she'll give you piano lessons and others you'll give her voice acting lessons
• I mean what else could you want?
【Kirumi Tojo】
• I don't see her having much of an opinion
• Not that she doesn't like your talent, by all means she loves it
• It's just she doesn't have much of an opinion on it is all
• Whenever she's cleaning or working you usually are the one staying by her side while mimicking some character that comes to your mind
• It makes her smile
• She'll help you whenever you practice your talent
• Mostly like reminding you to take breaks or giving you water so you don't strain your voice
• On the very rare occasions you'll actually give her small lessons whenever Kirumi is free (which is like very very rare)
• She isn't too good at it but she tries and you give her all the compliments in the world
【Himiko Yumeno】
• Finds your voice acting cool
• Guess what? Now you are her assistant!
• She'll somehow be able to incorporate your talent into her magic shows
• You dont know how, and when you ask her she'll just say "It's magicccccc"
• You don't really mind
• You really love being able to be in her magic shows in some way
• Will probably cast some sort of "spell" to help you up your talent whenever you are practicing
• If you do ever mimic her, she won't really mind at all
• May ask you to mimic one of her friends like Tenko or Angie from time to time
• You get private little magic shows and she gets cute skits where you mimic the rest of the v3 cast
• It's a win-win basically
【Angie Yonaga】
• Says you were blessed by Atua!
• Of course you were if you are with Angie
• She'll give you the generous position of being her muse
• So most of her art is inspired by you!
• Plus mini art lessons from her as well!
• And in return you get her into voice acting as a little side hobby
• Voice acting is like another form of art afterall
• She doesn't exactly take it seriously, so she's mostly giggling and smiling whenever you and her are practicing voice acting
• It's honestly more goofy than expected but you don't mind since you two are having fun either way
【Miu Iruma】
• Did someone say inventions?
• Miu did
• With your talent, Miu will absolutely get you to voice any (or maybe all) of her inventions
• Mostly just those that need some kind of voice (like any robotic or electronic gadgets)
• You don't really mind though
• It's good to put your talent to use, especially to your girlfriend
• The only thing she doesn't like about your talent is when you try to mimic her
• She loves you but- don't mimic her
• You can't help it though, you love doing it
【Maki Harukawa】
• Kind of like Kirumi
• She doesn't have too much of an opinion on it
• You usually show off at times with your voice acting and she just listens
• If you try to mimic her though she'll just say her famous line
• "Do you want to die?"
• "Do you want to die?"
• If you have a good eye you'll be able to see her have a slight pink tint of blush on her cheeks at times
• You continue to mimic her from time to time, often getting a good laugh from the others (mostly kaito or kokichi)
• There's not much else to really say but you still love your assassin girlfriend and always will
【Tenko Chabashira】
• Finds it super duper cool and adorable you can change your voice voluntarily to sound completely different
• Will probably fangirl over it
• Heck will probably even try to incorporate your talent into her neo aikido
• They are both like way too different to work but you just let her try anyways
• I can see her being one to just ask you to mimic some character at the most random times
• She's way too adorable for you to refuse
• Anyone who tries to make fun of you for your talent will meet the wrath of Tenko
• Well- degenerate males at least
• If it was a girl or anyone but a male she'll probably just give a stern warning at most
【Tsumugi Shirogane】
• Omg she loves that you can voice act
• She will ask you constantly to mimic someone from any of her favorite series
• But if you ever get annoyed by it then she'll tone it down
• At least do it once for her
• Will probably also ask you to cosplay with her!
• Her explanation is that you can both look and sound like a character from any series y'all are cosplaying (as she is the ultimate cosplayer (and loves making costumes) and you can voice act)
• It was like her talent and yours are the perfect match for each other
❀•°•═══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ═══•°•❀

Self-Improvement
okay so i havent tortured kokichi in a long time and i had this WONDERFUL idea where basically kokichi wants to start lying less and stuff to get shuichi to like him more (bc i love oumasai) so he asks miu for help, and miu ends up making him a uniform that tickles him whenever he lies or is a brat or WHATEVER and yeah so enjoy!!!
~~~~~~~
“This is stupid.”
“Hey! Don’t call my invention stupid! It’s pure genius!”
“You made a shirt that’ll tickle me whenever I lie? What do you think I am, five?”
“Listen up shota!” Miu lifted her goggles up from her face, stepping away from her workbench. “You wanted something that’ll stop you from lying so you can impress Shuichi and this is what I came up with!”
Kokichi glanced down at the shirt he was wearing, which Miu practically shoved him into. Appearance-wise, it looked exactly like his usual shirt, as it was made from one of his spare uniforms. However, lining the inside of the shirt were dozens of feathers and even miniature claws, ready to launch into action at any time. And to make it even worse, it was programmed so that only Miu could take it off of him.
“How does this thing even work?” he asked curiously.
“The shirt is activated by this remote right here, so that the person controller it can remotely tickle you every time you misbehave!” She held up a small, grey remote with a single switch on it. “It’s a homemade masochism machine, gyahaha! It’s perfect for you!” she sneered, cackling.
“Sooo... you’ll just activate this shirt whenever you feel like it?” he questioned. “No offense, but I don’t trust a pea-brained bitchlet like you to control something like this.”
“Well it’s a good thing I’m not gonna be the one controlling it!” she smirked.
“Yeah, yeah... Wait, what?”
Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of someone knocking on the door to Miu’s lab.
“Miu? Kokichi? Are you guys in there?” the voice asked. The door creaked open and in came Kaito, who grinned once he saw the other two. “There you guys are!”
Kokichi whipped his head around and glared at Miu, causing her to smirk even wider. He pulled her to the side, whispering to her.
“You did not rope him into this!”
“Relax! He’s around Poo-ichi all the time, so he’ll be there to stop you from lying in front of him!”
Kokichi sighed, rubbing his temples. Miu’s reasoning did make sense, but having Kaito be the one in control... This was going to be interesting...
“Fine!” Kokichi whispered before turning around to walk back over to Kaito, with Miu following him.
“Thanks for helping us out with this!” Miu cheered, beyond herself with excitement.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world!” he smirked, looking at Kokichi.
Miu tossed the remote over to Kaito while Kokichi sulked. “Here, catch!”
Kaito caught the remote and held it in his hand, observing it.
“Mind if I test it out?” he positioned his thumb over the switch, preparing to turn it on.
“Go ahead!” Miu leaned back on her desk, preparing herself for the show.
Kaito switched the remote on, activating the shirt. Immediately, Kokichi was attacked with tickles from all angles as the shirt worked its magic.
“PFT- AHAHAHAHAHA!” Kokichi doubled over with laughter, clutching his sides. Feathers wiggled under his arms and on his stomach, paying special attention to the area in and around his navel. Meanwhile, tiny claws squeezed at his hips and sides, as well as drumming into his ribs. The sensation was intense and visceral, like electric shocks coursing throughout his entire body.
“Ha! This is amazing!” Kaito spoke over Kokichi’s crazed cackles. “Who knew Kokichi was so ticklish!”
“Hell yes! It works!” Miu shouted triumphantly.
“P-PLEHEAHEAZE!” Kokichi felt his body growing weaker, and he could do little but laugh as his torment continued. “NAHAHAHAHA!”
Reluctantly, Kaito pressed the switch back on the remote, turning the shirt off for now. Kokichi just stood there panting, blinking tears out of his eyes.
“Hah... That was torture...”
“You better not be a brat or I’ll tickle ya for twice as long!” Kaito said confidently, holding the remote up. Kokichi winced.
“Well, off you go!” Miu was surprisingly quick to shove the two of them out of her lab. “Let me know if you need anything!” Shutting the door in their faces, she left Kaito and Kokichi alone to go about the rest of their day.
As soon as they had been shoved out of Miu’s lab, Kokichi immediately tried to make a run for it, but Kaito grabbed him by the arm before he could go anywhere.
“Not so fast!” Kokichi pouted in response. “What do you say we go get lunch? Shuichi and Maki Roll are waiting for me.”
“Oh great, I’d love to spend my afternoon with you and your loser friends.” Kokichi complained. “Sounds exciting.”
Kaito promptly switched the remote on, sending Kokichi into hysterics once more.
“FAHAHACK! OKAYOKAYOKAHAHAY I’M SOHOHOREEE!” Kokichi cried. Heeding his apology, Kaito switched the remote off.
“Any other smart comments you wanna make?” Kaito kept his thumb on the switch as a silent threat. Kokichi shook his head, gathering his composure.
“Good. Now let’s go.”
Kaito and Kokichi made their way to the cafeteria, mostly walking in silence. That was, until they ran into Kiibo.
“Sup, Kiibo?” Kaito greeted.
“Hello. Where are you two going?” Kiibo responded.
“We’re heading to the dining hall to grab some lunch! Wanna come?” Kaito offered.
“I would, but... I don’t have the ability to eat. Professor Idabashi didn’t equip me with that function.” Kiibo said sadly.
Kokichi scoffed, giggling a bit to himself. “Poor Kiiboy! Guess that just proves that...” He cut himself off, noticing the way that Kaito was smirking at him. Kokichi gulped.
“Hm? What was that, Kokichi?” Kiibo asked.
“Yeah, Kokichi...” Kaito teased. “What were you saying?”
Backed into a corner, Kokichi had no choice but to say something next. Given that he couldn’t lie or insult Kiibo, there were little options as to what he could say.
“Uh... I said, why don’t you come with us anyway, Kiibo? We would... love to have you with us...?” Kokichi stammered glancing at Kaito for approval.
Kiibo hesitated with his response, clearly having been expecting a robophobic comment. “I wish I could, but I’m scheduled for maintenance in Miu’s lab. Next time, perhaps.” Kiibo looked towards the small remote that Kaito was still holding. “What is that device that you’re holding?”
“Oh, this? It’s, uh...”
“It’s the detonator for a bomb I hid somewhere in the school! I gave it to Kaito so he could take the blame for the explosion!” Kokichi said excitedly, before realizing that he just doomed himself.
“What?! Now that has to be a lie, Kokichi!” Kiibo pointed accusingly at him.
“W-Wait! That’s not what I meHEHEANT!! EEYAHAHAHAHA!” Kokichi started cackling once more as Kaito flicked the switch on, but fortunately he switched it back off after only a few seconds.
“Um, Kokichi...? What’s so funny?” Kiibo asked, clearly confused.
“N-Nothing! I mean...” Kokichi pondered his options mentally before settling on the safest one. “See ya, Kiiboy!” He bolted off towards the cafeteria, with Kaito soon following after he gave Kiibo a small wave.
Kaito chuckled once he caught up with Kokichi, “Is it really that hard for you to not harass Kiibo?”
“Yes. God I wanted to insult him so bad.” Kokichi confessed, surprisingly honest.
The two of them walked a little more before arriving at the dining hall, where Shuichi and Maki were waiting. Kirumi was also there, serving them food as diligently as always.
Kaito waved to them, “Hey guys! I hope you don’t mind, but I brought Kokichi with me!”
In response to seeing Kokichi, Maki scowled, while Shuichi just laughed a bit nervously. They sat down across from Maki and Shuichi, while Kirumi placed down a plate of mini sandwiches.
“I, uh, didn’t expect you two of all people to be hanging out together...” Shuichi stammered.
“Since when are you two friends?” Maki narrowed her eyes at the two of them.
A mixture of half-assed excuses came from both boys, equally frazzled in their attempts to cover up the truth. At least Kaito hid the remote in his pocket this time, so that it wasn’t visible. At least not to the others.
Kokichi, however, could clearly see the remote, only inches away from his hand. Screw trying to lie less... if he could grab that remote, he could say all the mean things that he wants! He waited until Kaito was adequately distracted, and then...
He carefully plucked the remote out of Kaito’s pocket and closed his fist around it. Kokichi grinned to himself, having successfully completed this operation.
“...What are you smiling about?” Maki directed her question at Kokichi, who in turn smiled even wider.
“Is the killer girl worried about me? How adorable!” Kaito searched his pocket for the remote but it was nowhere to be found. Kokichi smirked. “And here I was, thinking you had no heart!”
Checking his other pocket and doing a quick scan of the area around him, it didn’t take Kaito long to realize that the remote had been stolen.
“Looking for this?” Kokichi held the remote just out of Kaito’s reach, snickering when he tried but failed to grab it.
“Kokichi! Give that back!” The two bickered, ignoring Shuichi and Maki’s confused questions of what it was that Kokichi was holding.
“No can do, spaceman!” Kokichi stood up from the table, closing the remote in his fist again. “See ya!”
Before Kokichi could sprint off, Kaito stood up and grabbed him by the arm, pulling him towards him. Being considerably stronger, Kaito was able to force Kokichi’s hand open and grab the remote, switching it on as soon as possible.
“AH! GAHAHAHAHA NOOO!” Kokichi yelped as the shirt got back to work, tickling him with renewed vigor. “SHIHIHIHIT NAHAHAHAHA!”
“Ha! That’s what you deserve you little shit!” Kaito said proudly, holding the remote up in the air.
“Kaito...? What is that thing?” Shuichi asked, speaking more than enough for him and Maki, both of them bewildered and confused.
“Oh! This is a remote that Miu made! When you switch it on it tickles the crap outta Kokichi!”
“And you had it because...?”
“Miu wanted me to turn it on every time Kokichi lied or was being annoying...” he glanced at Kokichi, who was clutching at his stomach, doubled over with laughter. Kaito smirked when Kokichi’s knees buckled and he fell to the ground. “I’d say it’s working pretty well.”
“GAHAHAHAHAD MAHAHAKE IHIHIT STOHOHOP!” Kokichi practically screeched. “I’M SOHOHOREEHEE!!”
“Alright, that’s enough. I guess I should- oof!” As Kaito turned around he bumped into Kirumi, who was carrying a tray of drinks. A few glasses of water spilled onto his arm and on the remote, causing it to short-circuit.
“...Uh oh.”
“My apologies. I will fetch towels for the both of us. Excuse me.”
Kaito wasn’t even thinking about the water that was spilled on him. All he could focus on was...
“BWAHAHAHAHA FUHUHUHUCK EHEEHEEHEE!” Kokichi was kicking and squirming, flailing like a madman on the ground. The others watched in awe, too shocked to figure out what to do. Eventually, the tickling abruptly stopped, leaving Kokichi in a haze of shivers and after giggles.
Panting quite heavily, he stood up on shaky legs, muttering curse words under his breath.
“Gotta... f-find Miu... get me out of this thing...” Kokichi wobbled out of the cafeteria, off to get Miu to help him out of the shirt.
Meanwhile, Kaito, Shuichi and Maki continued their lunch, trying to ignore the spectacle they had just witnessed. Eventually, Kirumi returned with towels, and the trio went on with their day, completely forgetting about the incident.
And it all started with an injury
Hello, everyone! Wow. It's been a long time since I've written anything. It feels so good to write something since forever!
Anywho! I wrote this one-shot in response to the beautiful art by @sup-poki (the fifth one). I loved it so much I wrote about it, and got their permission! Which, by the way...
Hi, Poki! Hope you’re well! Remember when you replied my comment to your art post back in late July about wanting to write about it and you saying to just go for it? I’m so sorry it’s taken me forever, but here it is! Hope you like it! (Also, I’m so glad that my comment brightened your day! Know that your encouragement also made me want to just scream in joy!)
Also the biggest thank you to the wonderful @blenderfullasarcasm for beta-ing this!
Hope I did these characters their justice!
Summary: Aoko walks in on Kaito tending to his injury in his room, and confronts him. He says it's an accident, but Aoko calls bullshit. And they talk.
Words: 5412
If you’d rather read on AO3, you can just find it on my profile FanaRain, or here!
Kaito is so focused on his first aid treatment that he almost doesn’t notice someone come into his room right behind him. But the movement on the reflection of his side mirror catches his eye, and he immediately whips around, only to see Aoko standing just inside the door, and her expression is one of horror as she focuses on him. Or rather, a scratch on his right cheek that is almost deep and reddish with rashes, and also on the blood trailing from the corner of his mouth.
“Kaito? What…?” Her voice trails off, wanting to know but afraid of the answer. He doesn’t know why she is afraid, but he quickly tries to distract her.
“Ahoko!” he calls out loudly, voice annoyed, “Haven’t you ever heard of a thing called ‘knocking’?!” No reaction. A beat. “Ahoko! Are you listening? I’m not even readily dressed yet, so get out of my room and wait downstairs!”
Almost as if a switch had been flipped, her expression then does a complete 180. Sporting an angry expression that turns her colour to crimson, hands clenched in a fist at her sides, she then stomps over to him - and he could feel the ground beneath him shaking a little in response, like the aftershocks after the first (and the most powerful) earthquake, and in the back of his mind, he briefly wonders how quickly an egg could be fried if he were to (accidentally of course, who on earth wouldn’t appreciate a little bit of magic on a most dazzling morning such as this) dump it onto the top of her head, and he also wonders whether it might be edible (probably not, with the hair and all). Or instead, would it immediately burn to ashes, considering just how crimson her face has turned? A world record, to be sure.
Hmm… is it even possible to have a record like that at all? If not, then he would find a way to create such competition, make Aoko join it (against her will) and win the trophy! It would be soooo interesting! - then, before he could do anything, she grabs him by the front of the black shirt he wears beneath the school uniform, bringing him close to her face.
A bit too close for his liking.
He yelps. “H-hey, Ahoko! What are you doing?!”
But she doesn’t react to his shouts because she is focusing intently on the wound, as if she’s trying to see what caused it and by whom.
“What happened, Bakaito?”
Despite her angry expression, her voice is calm. She does not raise or lower her voice. It’s terrifyingly even, as if she knows that no matter what answer he might give, it will not be the one she wants.
The calm before the storm.
Inwardly, he panics a little. He does not need or want to experience that temper, not after what happened the night before. He only has so much energy left to use to avoid her temper. He is glad that he had a little foresight to dress himself and the wound before letting Aoko into his house this morning. Aoko does not need to know about the other, even deeper, injury on his left arm.
After the heist last night, KID had been surrounded by Snake and his lackeys up on the roof as usual. However, this time had been a little different, as they had brought along a sniper and so, while Snake distracted him by way of threatening his life, the sniper had shot at KID from the top of a building across the street. However, a glint from somewhere below had caught his attention and he had instinctively glanced at that building, spotting the sniper on the roof along the way. He had dodged immediately, darting behind a generator for cover and using his smoke bombs as a distraction before they could do worse, but two bullets had already cut him. Thankfully, the injuries had not been that serious, so nothing had been too damaged. With good first aid and a few days’ rest, the injuries would be healed in no time.
But, in order for that to happen, Kaito has to first appease Aoko so he could prevent her from finding out about it and freaking out.
“Nothing happened, Ahoko. It was just an accident.” He shrugs like it’s an afterthought.
Apparently, that is the wrong answer.
She lowers her head, her hair shadowing her eyes as she grits her teeth a little. A beat. Then two beats. Then three. Only then does her hand on his undervest clench even further, and she steps slightly backwards before swiftly pulling him towards her. Before he can even utter a single syllable, Aoko quickly moves her head towards him, and-
WHACK!
“OUCH!”
Kaito immediately crumples to the floor, hands on his head in pain. “Ow, ow, owwwww!”
A few seconds pass while he rubs his forehead, soothing the pain, before he shoots up to his standing position and whirls on her angrily, his free hand gesturing wildly.
“What the hell was that for, Ahoko?!”
“That,” Aoko, again, grabs his undervest as she moves her head close to his, an angry expression still on her face, “was for being a liar, and an idiot,” she hisses, anger dripping off her words. She doesn’t seem bothered by the pain that is surely present on her forehead, but she seems to have prepared herself for it beforehand, so it doesn’t appear to hurt as much.
Kaito is a little more prepared this time, so her anger and grip on his clothes doesn’t catch him off guard. He replies with just as much annoyance. “Me, a liar?!” he demands.
“Yeah, you!” she shoots back. “Have you forgotten that we’ve known each other for a long time?! Aoko knows things don’t just happen because of a little accident! Not with you!”
That last part catches him off guard. He goes silent.
Taking that chance, she continues, annoyed but with fear laced in her low voice, “Don’t take Aoko for a fool, Bakaito. She knows you, always has. Now tell her, and tell her honestly. What. Happened.”
Kaito hesitates for a long minute. He is surprised at her determination to seek the truth, but he thinks he knows why. Due to the amount of time they’ve been together, she’s gained an uncanny ability to know and understand Kaito just for who he is. Even if they’ve unknowingly distanced themselves a little due to his new job as KID, Aoko still hasn’t lost that ability.
He wants to tell her. By kami, he’s wanted to tell her for a long time. But he can’t. This was his father’s responsibility, and now he’s passed it on his son. It is his responsibility, his mess. Kaito can’t bring Aoko into his mess. No way, no how.
“I can’t-” his voice goes dry. He clears his throat a little and tries again. “It was just an experiment that had gone wrong. Magic experiment. That’s all.”
A moment goes by while Aoko examines his face. Then, she lets go of his undervest and turns to leave the room. Before he can discern what has just happened, he hears something clatter somewhere nearby, and not too long she comes back. She is carrying a box of some kind. Before he can examine it, she points to his bed.
“Sit.”
Kaito just raises his eyebrow at her. She stubbornly keeps holding up her arm in that direction. Then he just sighs and walks to sit on his bed.
Aoko kneels on the bed by his right side, putting the box down. He recognises it as his first aid that had just been under the sink in the bathroom. Aoko really does know her way around his house.
There is a tense silence in the room as she tends to the wound on Kaito’s cheek, and she even wipes away the blood that trailed from the corner of his mouth. She doesn’t ask how the blood came about, and he doesn’t say that it came from having gritted his teeth so much from the agonised pain of tending to the wound on his shoulder that his lips split from being bitten on.
Having finished with her task, she puts aside the first aid kit and then sits on the bed by his left side. She seems to be thinking about something, and he doesn’t dare disrupt her. Then, she looks him in the eyes and asks, “Are you going to keep doing that?”
He is confused. “Doing what?”
“Lying.”
“What do you mean by lying? I just told you what happened!”
“That’s a lie.”
“No, it’s not a lie!”
“It is.”
Kaito then falls silent at her resolution. Why would she refuse to fall for one of his usual lies? Why would she not waver from this? Does that mean that she might know who he is…?
No.
That’s impossible. He mustn't make such absurd assumptions before confirming all facts.
Then, what would make her think that he was lying?
“Why would you think I am lying, Ahoko?” he asks, annoyed.
“Because Aoko knows you,” she replies matter of factly.
No, you don’t. If you did, you wouldn’t be here with me, like this. You would’ve just beat  me up and never talk to me again.
I don’t want to lose you. I can’t.
He tries to derail the topic before she could focus on that particular conversation.
“Oh, is that because you’re worrying about me?” he raises his eyebrows suggestively.
Aoko then adopts an unimpressed expression, face twitching a little. She stares impassively at him, saying nothing.
“Thanks for worrying, but I’ll be fine, Ahoko! It’s like I said, it was just a little accident! This little scratch is nothing! See!” Kaito reassures her, even going so far as grinning and prodding the patch on his cheek hard, like the injury was no big deal, while hiding his grimace at the pain. Poker face! Remember the poker face!
Aoko still stares at him firmly, and he just closes his eyes and his grin widens even further, still ignoring the sting, “Really, Ahoko! It’s not a big deal, you don’t need to wor-!”
A soft touch on his healthy cheek stops him in his tracks. He immediately opens his eyes, and upon seeing the expression on the face of his childhood friend, his breath catches in his throat and his eyes widened in shock.
In all the times they have spent time together, from childhood to teenagers, they have seen each other at their best and worst moments. Even if they’d only been expressed once, he could never forget them. He wouldn’t. He hadn’t thought there was anything more he had ever seen from her, but this? This is different.
How come she’s wearing that expression? Why show it to him now?
“Aoko…?”
Her eyebrows curved a little upwards, bringing attention to her blue eyes as they shone brightly. A single, inaudible tear had escaped its cage and went down her cheek, leaving tracks in its wake. When her name, almost a gentle query uttered in a whisper, reaches her ears, her face and body tenses up as she bits her lower lip, seemingly trying to hold back the stream that is threatening to follow.
He can usually read his best friend like an open book most of the time, but this? Kaito doesn’t understand. What has he done to make her cry like this?
After having succeeded in holding most of her tears back so that she can speak a little more clearly, she simply gives him an answer in the form of another question.
“You won’t stop, will you?”
Her soft voice wavers, as if she is afraid that Kaito would disappear if she speaks even an ounce louder.
“Huh?”
“This,” she gestures to the scratch on his cheek, “is not an accident, Aoko knows that. But, not why this happened.”
‘Why’, not ‘how’ or ‘what’, he notes in the back of his mind.
He blinks dumbly. “Aoko, what…? I-I don’t understand… Why are you-?”
“Kaito…” Her tears burst free from their cage and slid down her cheeks again, with more following their trails. She leans forward and puts her head on his right shoulder, wetting the uniform in the process, “Whatever it is you’re doing that got you hurt… You won’t stop, will you?” she repeats softly.
And then, almost as if in confirmation, she leisurely raises her left hand from her side and gently places it onto his right side, hesitates briefly, then slowly and reluctantly curls her fingers inwards, lightly clutching the cloth. Over his scar.
The one that was caused by a broken glass while protecting her. As KID.
Oh…
… oh.
Shit.
He does not show any more shock or expressions than he already does. However, inwardly, he is panicking. His heart beats a little faster as each second ticks forward. All that goes through his head, little screws beating around each other, is one word.
How?
He doesn’t know what to think.
“Aoko, I…” he tries, but bites his lips. What can he say? He can’t tell her anything. He can’t. What should he say?
Kaito doesn’t want her to cry anymore, but how can he stop it?
Subconsciously, he raises his hands to lightly hold onto her; right hand on her head as fingers thread through her hair, and left hand placed on her hip.
“Aoko, please don’t cry…”
She just cries a little harder in response. He murmurs unintelligible but reassuring words to her.
They stay in that position for what feels like a long time.
“Kaito, Aoko is…” He doesn’t stop his murmurs of reassurances. “Don’t go…”
He hums. “I’m not going anywhere. Where would I go, Ahoko?”
“The dark…”
He just closes his eyes. “The dark?”
“Last night. You weren’t there… were you?”
“Where?”
“On the roof.”
He pauses, opening his eyes to look at the mop of brown hair. “The roof?”
“KID.”
His breath hitches in his throat a little. He tries, “What about KID?”
She doesn’t reply, but just lets the hand on his cheek fall lower, onto his shoulder, then a bit lower to the upper arm. It is brushing his wound as she lightly clutches at the flesh; he tries not to flinch.
Then she says, “Aoko is scared,” Kaito just hums in query, “You’re leaving me behind. Aoko is just so scared…”
“Ah…!”
Apparently it is a little too much for his tender arm; he flinches so much that Aoko instinctively jumps off of him in response, her face shocked and confused even as tears keep trickling down her cheeks.
She looks at Kaito, then glances to his left shoulder that he is clutching at, then to Kaito, then back again. He just looks back at her calmly, little sweat dripping down his skin.
“Kaito…? Are you-?”
He just bites his lips in response.
A few moments pass by while they stare at each other. Then, she hesitantly raises her arm towards him. “Kaito, can I…?”
He just closes his eyes in response. There is a lull in the air as she waits. Then Kaito blinks his eyes open and looks back at her, raising his healthy arm away from his shoulder towards her cheek, wiping away her tears. She seems to have stopped crying for the moment. That is good.
Then, he just gives a slight bob of his head.
She tenderly touches his left shoulder, clutching the hem of his school uniform, hesitates briefly, and moves to take it off. Before she could put the edge past his shoulder, Kaito’s hand shoots up to her wrist, stopping its advance.
He seems to have changed his mind for just a second.
Kaito’s heart pounds so frantically and loudly he is sure Aoko can hear or even feel his quickening heartbeats. He tries to keep his breath even, but that is becoming more difficult the longer Aoko’s hand clenched onto his uniform. She does not react to his hand on her wrist, even as he unconsciously tightens his hold.
What if just by seeing that wound, she finds out who I truly am? What if she hates me? What if she never wants to see me again? What if, what if, what ifwhatifwha-
“Kaito.”
As if cutting through the darkness, Aoko’s voice reaches his ears, and his breath hitches in his throat. He blinks open his eyes - he didn’t realise that his eyes had closed on their own account.
“Look at Aoko.”
Blinking once again, he raises his head to face hers. Her expression is mild, sapphire eyes radiating nothing but calmness as they meet Kaito’s own. He does not see any other emotions in her eyes, not even those that he had expected, and that scares him.
“Please, Kaito. Let Aoko do this.”
Why?
He hesitates, then reluctantly lets go of her wrist, letting his hand dangle at his side. He bows his head a little, closing his eyes. He does not want to see this.
In doing so, his other senses become a little sensitive to her every action, every sound and every touch.
Having gotten his permission, she peels the uniform off of him, revealing the bandage underneath. He hears her breath hitch a little, and he knows she can see the blood that is seeping through the bandages, signalling how bad the injury is. She tenderly touches the gauze on top of the injury, seeming to be assessing it. The sound of scissors snipping at the bandages reaches his ears as it is removed from his flesh, only taking in a short breath when the gauze brushes and is peeled off of the injury. A soft gasp (a sob, again?) escapes her lips, and he knows it’s gotten a bit worse than the last time he treated it earlier in the morning. He certainly feels it. The bed dips as she moves to kneel on it, then shifts towards the first aid kit, then he feels her get closer. He detects the scent of some kind of alcohol.
“This is going to hurt.” Aoko warns. Kaito just nods, gritting his teeth a little.
His injury emits a stinging pain, hurt shooting through his veins and up towards his shoulder, and he bits his lips so as not to cry out. He tries his best not to flinch away from her touch so much. Is it hot? Or is it cold? No, it’s both. It’s so burning cold, so agonising. It’s like being stabbed with too many nails all at once. It hurts. Just because he has sustained injuries from being shot at who knows how many times, does not mean that he is immune from all kinds of pain. Even if he has improved pain tolerance, it still hurts. He tries to not let any kind of sound out of his mouth.
He does not know how long it has passed. Has it been a minute? An hour? It feels longer.
Suddenly he feels something cold touch his cheeks, but it’s not freezing. It feels refreshing, like the wind blowing against the skin after a hot summer. He then feels more than hears something whisper near his ear.
“Relax, Kaito. It’s all better now.”
He lets go of the breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding, panting slightly.
“Are you okay?” Aoko asks. He gives a small nod. “Then, I will bandage it now.”
That refreshing touch leaves his cheeks, and then he feels a long cotton strap wrap his shoulder, going around the wound then around his body towards the other side, under the undervest (she doesn’t ask him to take it off, and so he doesn’t), then to the wounded side again. After a few moments, he feels the bandage tighten a little, then hears the snap of scissors cutting away the remaining strap.
“Aoko’s done.”
Kaito just opens his eyes again, and glances at her handiwork. “Thanks, Aoko.”
“Anytime.”
She gets off the bed to get rid of the stained bandages, into the bin nearby, then goes back to the bed to put away the first aid kit. While she does so, Kaito just stares at her.
Without thinking, he blurts out, “Don’t you hate Kaitou KID?” As soon as the final word slipped his mouth, he immediately regrets having asked this question. He inwardly uses a string of curse words that would have made Nakamori-keibu proud, for having lost control of himself. But Kaito can’t take it back now; it’s too late.
Poker face! Poker face!
He briefly notes the fact that she does not look even a bit surprised at the sudden change of subject, but she still pauses briefly, then looks down in thought. After a moment, she replies, “No. Hate is too strong of a word. Aoko doesn’t hate him at all, but she can’t say that she likes him either.” Blinking as she raises her head as she shifts her body to face him, connecting her eyes with his again, she adds, “Aoko just wants her father back. That’s all.”
A brief pain takes over his soul for a second, and he knows that she sees it, but she says nothing. However, he understands what Aoko means. Oh, he does.
But it doesn’t mean that he hates it less everytime Aoko let off her energy towards KID. He knows what Aoko thinks of KID, but he can’t tell her.
Kaito can’t let it go. He doesn’t want to let Aoko go.
“I see…” he just says. Aoko stares at him. “Tell me, Aoko. What are you scared of? Why did you cry?”
She looks down at her hands fidgeting against each other on her lap for a long moment, then just closes her eyes and leans on his good shoulder.
“Last night,” she begins, “Aoko went to the heist. Only this time, she had a bad feeling, so she went to a different place than usual, just to watch the heist. KID flies, so she went to the building across from that place. She brought binoculars with her. She wanted to see what was happening after KID had stolen the jewel. However, she saw something she’d never seen, nor even thought of before…” she grabs the undervest at his side again, though it was done unconsciously. She shifts to a more comfortable position and continues, a few hitches in her voice here and there, “It was dark, so she couldn’t see well. But, she could see KID, so bright in contrast, the moonlight shining upon him. He was surrounded by some men in black. The moonlight helped, so she could see the light reflecting off of whatever the men were holding in their hand. They were guns. Real guns.”
She pauses for a moment as she takes a few deep breaths. “Then it happened in a split second, so fast Aoko would’ve missed it if she wasn’t paying attention. KID had taken a glance towards the building she was at, and she could have sworn that he had seen her, but he was actually looking at something above her. Then, he moved so fast, like the speed of light, and there was a bright flash. It was so bright, but luckily she had closed her eyes at that second, she was confused, so it hadn’t affected her that much. Then, she saw several sparkles away from KID. He then flew away from that building, but she saw him holding onto his shoulder. She saw blood, so much blood.”
So, that glint Kaito had seen at the building across the street, that was Aoko? Then he owes her his life. If it were not for that glint of light, he wouldn’t have seen the sniper, and he probably wouldn’t have been here right now, beside her, like this. So she had made the connection so quickly. She is a very smart girl, indeed. But still, he won’t tell her, nor confirm anything.
There is a whine in her voice. “This had never happened before. Aoko was so scared that she ran away from there. She had a nightmare last night.”
He just holds her head, caressing it, and hums, “Nightmare?”
Her hands on his clothes tightens. “She dreamed of Kaito. You were…” she trails off. Kaito just hums and waits patiently, gently supporting her. “Aoko saw Kaito surrounded by black figures of some kind. They resembled animals more than humans. And then, Kaito, they shot at you, then flames and playing cards altogether surrounded you. She saw the moonlight breaking into little pieces. Even then, Kaito, you just looked at Aoko and said, ‘Not yet, I won’t stop’. She didn’t understand what you meant by that…” She just breaks into sobs.
So that’s why she’s like this. She’s scared for me, he thinks. He pulls Aoko further into his arms in a hug, shifting so she sits on his lap, while humming a gentle lullaby to calm her down. She cries even harder in response. He feels her tears on his bare shoulder, but he doesn’t mind it.
A few moments pass by while they stay in that position, just holding onto each other like they are a lifeline. Aoko takes the time to calm down, and Kaito doesn’t move even an inch away from her.
Kaito just glances at the clock and grimaces a little. “We’re late…” he murmurs.
Aoko hears it, and also glances at the time. A second goes by while she stares, then she just returns her head onto his shoulder and says tiredly, “Aoko doesn’t care, she’s too tired for that, and you need to heal. Let her just stay like this. Please.”
He just rests his chin on her head. “Okay. We’ll just apologise to Sensei tomorrow. I’ll have Mom call the school about our absence, she won’t mind.” Aoko just burrows further into his shoulder, near his neck.
With a little magic, his mobile phone poofs into appearance in his hand. He turns it on and sends his mother a text about his and Aoko’s absence. She replies immediately with an ‘OK’, but asking what he did with Aoko that they had to be too tired to go to school, adding a wink emoticon at the end. He just rolls his eyes, replies to say that he will explain later, then turns the phone off. He places his pillow between himself and the wall and, with Aoko in his arms, leans backwards and closes his eyes.
~T~
Kaito opens his eyes to the sight of Aoko sleeping close to him, on her left side, with her arms wrapped around him, and his around her. At some point, they must have switched from sitting up to lying down on his bed. He just smiles sadly at her. Even wrapped in his smell, she smells so refreshing, like home. He likes it, though he won’t admit it to her. He raises his left hand and caresses her cheek. She’s so soft…
She twitches a little and opens her eyes, sleepily blinking her eyes and stares at him with narrowed eyes. He just smiles at her.
“Hi, Aoko.” he says softly.
“Hi, Kaito…” she mumbles back, tiredly closing her eyes.
“How are you feeling?”
“Tired… Can’t open my eyes… But it feels like something has been lifted, though I’m not sure what.”
He hums in thought. “I think that would be you finally letting something off your chest. Though from what I can see, it’s already small.” he adds cheekily.
She hums back. A beat, then immediately opens her eyes and glares at him, “Bakaito! Don’t say things like that!” she then hits his side in retaliation.
“Ow, that hurts, Ahoko!”
“It doesn’t hurt, and you know it!”
Kaito fake cries, and Aoko just rolls her eyes.
They then just stay like that for another moment in peace, making tentative eye contact. And then Aoko asks, “What time is it, anyway? How long have we been sleeping?”
Kaito raises himself a little to glance at the clock off her shoulder, “Hmm… I think we’ve been sleeping for a little over two hours. It’s 11:23AM now.”
Aoko just hums, rolling herself onto her back and swings her arm over her face, hiding her eyes.
They do not move off of the bed for another few minutes. Then, “Kaito. Can you please answer a few things for Aoko? Truthfully?”
“... Okay. What is it?”
“Whatever it is you’re doing… Will you stop it, or will you not?”
Kaito doesn’t answer immediately, thinking over his words carefully. “If I tell you, you won’t cry, will you?”
“That would depend on your answer.”
Kaito just groans as he moves to raise himself to sitting on the bed, leaning on the wall. Seconds go by while he just sits there. “No. I will not stop,” he replies softly.
Aoko just bites her lips, a tear already sliding over her cheek into her hair. A deep breath. “Is it dangerous?”
“... Yes.”
“Can Aoko help you in any way?”
Kaito stares at her. She wants to help? Without truly knowing what danger is in store for me, and for her if she gets involved in some way? Is that possible?
He already knows the answer without having to think too much of it. “No, you can’t. If you do, you’ll be-” he bites his lips, not saying anymore.
“... Are you leaving Aoko behind, then?”
“...”
Kaito wants to say ‘no’. He really does. But, with his job being dangerous already, anything could happen. He can’t promise anything. He doesn’t want to break her heart anymore than he already has. He doesn’t care about himself that much, but Aoko? She who is his home, his angel, his magician? She who already holds his heart in her hands but all she does is just hold it gently, shielding it with her wings of beauty and innocence? She who always smiles at him everytime he looks at her? He can’t live without her. It might be stupid, but it is the truth.
A few more tears trickle down her cheeks again at the lack of reply, and she rises herself to sit on the bed, hair shadowing her eyes.
“Are you going to try…?”
“Hm?”
“Here. Will you try to come back?” she clarifies.
“... Yes, but-”
He is cut off by Aoko grabbing at his undervest again, as her eyes hold close contact with him, and she says firmly, “Then do it.”
He is speechless again. He tries to let some kind of sound escape his lips, but in vain. He looks like a fish which, to him, is a horrible thought. He tries to hold back his shivers at the thought. She doesn’t notice.
Her eyes then soften, and her focus on his eyes intensifies. She lets go of the cloth and raises both of her hands to hold his cheeks. “Those eyes.”
He blinks several times in confusion.
“You know the saying, right? ‘The eyes are the window to the soul’?” he just nods dumbly, and she continues, still staring at those tanzanite eyes, “Those eyes that hold your soul. Whether they hide behind some kind of glasses or disguises or anything, they may fool most people. But they can’t fool Aoko. The soul behind the window in those eyes, Aoko knows him. Whether that soul be a student, a magician, or a thief, they are all him.”
Kaito’s eyes widened in realisation. Does she mean…?
“Kaito.” she says again, and stops for a moment as she takes her hand off his cheek to wipe away her tears, then returning to his cheek.
“Aoko…?”
“Those eyes,” she tenderly touches the corners of his eyes, “are hers. Aoko knows those eyes, so they are hers. That’s why,” she adds, gently bumping her forehead to his, eyes still connected, “You must come back to me. Do you understand?”
This is sort of a confession, and yet, it is not quite one. It is merely a fact. Like the colour of the sky is blue and the grass is green, and the air is fresh and the birds fly freely. Just a fact. But, he understands now. With a grateful sigh, he holds his palms over hers and replies by pressing their foreheads together and-
“Always.”
No matter whatever happens, I will always return. To where you are. Through hell fire or freezing storms.
This, he swears.
Red-Hearted Tragedy
For @tanteigisachi, thank you for pulling me out of my hole and back out here <3 You’re the kindest! I hope you can visualize the chirping birds and colorful butterflies and glittering rainbow that I’m presenting you this with (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*: ・゚*
Fandom: Detective Conan/DCMK Pairing: Shinichi/Ran, (side Heiji/Kazuha and Kaito/Aoko) Rating: G Genre/Tags: Fluff, Domestic Warning: None
Shinichi has a theory about parenthood.
He used to think it’s not possible that once one becomes a parent, one also stops being anything else. Like the status he has right now. He was always known as a Great Detective of the East, the badass son of the famous writer Kudo Yusaku and a soccer enthusiast. Now he's barely himself, the state of parenting having sucked his body dry of anything remotely cool he had going on. Shinichi wonders if Ran feels the same. When Conan first arrived, they were extremely thrilled about finally being a family and so for a long while, Conan was pretty much everything in their minds. Ran started refusing to go to work at Teitan and Shinichi missed more cases than he can account for—all in favor of watching their baby grow healthy and in a strong household.
They succeeded. Conan is now a kind, obedient, smart and very lovely four year old and there is still nothing more important than him in his parents’ lives.
However.
It will be Valentine's Day soon and Shinichi would love for this to be their first Valentine’s Day without Conan's presence jumping and screaming for them to watch Pororo instead of opening a bottle of wine. Don't get him wrong, he loves his son. He just misses being romantic with his wife. That’s just tragic.
That's why he calls Heiji.
"Forget it," the guy says. "Kazuha and I had a hard time booking a nanny for Valentine's. She's pretty expensive and the only one who hasn’t been threatened by the twins so far."
Shinichi traps the phone between his ear and his shoulder while typing the report to finish up his latest murder case. It's the second case he’d taken this week. He's tired and grumpy and wants to end his week early to spend the whole Valentine weekend, but people seem to be exploding with their grudges, stalking ex-girlfriends here and murdering ex-husbands there.
"You should get them checked," Shinichi jokes half-hardheartedly.
The other gasps. Shinichi can practically hear Heiji’s Giant Head of Doom growing in size. "Don't insult my beautiful children!"
"You could at least ask your nanny to look after Conan as well. He's quiet, and you know he won't make any mess."
"Get your own nanny." Heiji scoffs. "Where ya’ at?"
Shinichi exhales. "Working."
"How many cases ya’ got this week?"
"Three. People really need to chill. It’s the holiday of love, not hatred. ” Shinichi answers with such exasperation and Heiji laughs. “I take it you’re just as busy as I am?”
"Nah, I got a murder and a robbery earlier this week but now I’m chillin’ and ready for the weekend." Shinichi just knows that his best friend is grinning ear to ear at this moment.
And so he decides he's had enough of him. He hangs up with a scowl, but not before sending one last grumble in Heiji’s way.
Ran places a cup of coffee in front of Shinichi, Conan's orange juice in one hand and this morning’s newspaper under her arm.
"He won't do it," Shinichi says.
Ran squints, sitting across from him at the dining table. "Kazuha-chan told me they’ve gone through a lot of trouble to find a good babysitter. I think that means they do not want to babysit this weekend."
"Well they just found one and he says he won't share." Shinichi sips at his coffee.
Ran chuckles, standing up and calling for Conan, who walks out from his bedroom already perfectly dressed (hair a mess, though). The four year old tiptoes to reach his juice box, jumping on the couch once the box is secure between his hands. Shinichi gulps his coffee before walking toward Conan and sitting himself next to his son on the couch.
"Hey," he says.
Conan blinks dazedly, clearly bored out of his mind and undoubtedly thinking about the comfort of his bed. It's barely even eight and the kid is already tired.
"So... today is a special day," he continues. Conan stares at him. "A special day for... daddies and mommies."
"Valentine's Day?" Conan asks. Shinichi frowns.
"Yes, how do you know about Valentine's Day?"
"Everyone knows about Valentine's Day, Dad."
"But you're too young to..." he shakes his head. "Never mind. Are you ready for school?"
Conan stands up as if doing so is such a burden, and Shinichi thinks about talking to Ran about ways to make kindergarten seem more interesting for their toddler.
There is no nanny available. All nannies were already booked by smarter couples that probably have been planning their Valentine's night for days. Shinichi and Ran are easily 'the rest'.
"Kuroba, please? Can you watch Conan just for one night?"
"It's Valentine's Day, Kudo."
"You told me that you don’t have any plans with Aoko anyway. You could use some company. Conan is nice company, he likes your magic tricks and he's an amazing listener. You can dump all your dissatisfaction with life and your father-in-law and the world on him, he won't even mind."
Kaito is beyond outraged. "First of all, I DO have plans with Aoko! It’s just that her father wants to have a Valentine's dinner with her that she can’t say no to.” Shinichi has to drag the phone away from his ear. “Second of all, ALL kids love my magic tricks and. And I am definitely NOT dissatisfied."
Shinichi wisely chooses not to point out the extreme dissatisfaction in the magician’s voice. "Please? Ran and I really need this moment. It's been ages since we went on a romantic dinner. We haven’t even had the chance to spend any alone time outside lately."
"And you blame that on your son." Kaito's tone is accusing and reprimanding.
"No. Yes, somehow, but, not in a bad way. It's just... Being a parent is hard. We focus all our time and energy on Conan and end up with nothing left for ourselves. I miss having a day for us, you know?"
There's silence. Shinichi hopes Kaito is trying to picture how hard it is to have a child and eventually consents, because he's Shinichi's last option. But to be honest, maybe it’s not the best idea to put in the magician’s head. He doesn’t want an angry Aoko coming for him.
"Ok, fine." Kaito answers and Shinichi punches the air in celebration. "Remember that you owe me another one and that I expect free food."
"You got it, Kuroba!"
If all kids are as calm as Conan, Kaito muses, then he can’t wait until Aoko and his bundle of joy arrives. He only prays that his child wouldn’t turn out to be as hyper as the Hattori twins. Conan doesn't seem affected by Kaito's presence, but then again, everything the kid needs is his pillow and a television. Preferably some cartoons.
Shinichi averts his gaze from the two just as his wife walks into the living room. Ran looks good. So good. And Shinichi's hands are sweating with anticipation. It's been so long since the last time they've gone out, just the two of them where clowns and kiddy toys aren't involved.
He approaches her, who is now leaning against the wall with arms folded on his chest and a fond expression on his face. She's watching Conan staring at the TV while clutching his pillow, the boy's eyes already drooping with drowsiness. Kaito sits next to him and occasionally attempts to chat, but Conan isn't exactly a conversationalist. He's one of the quiet ones. And definitely Shinichi’s son.
"He's so big," Ran mentions in that tone she only uses when talking about Conan. "Did four years really go by that fast?"
Shinichi sighs as Conan perches his head up to watch Kaito perform some tricks. "Why? Do you still think about him as a baby?"
"He's still a child. He still needs care." Ran bites her lips, worry washing over her features. "Maybe we should cancel Valentine's Dinner."
Before Shinichi can muster up an angry answer about several months without a couple's moment and the survival of their relationship while being parents, Kaito walks towards them.
"You guys should go or you'll miss the reservation," he says, that annoying complacent smile on.
"Do you have the list of things he's allowed to eat and do you have the list of numbers to call if something happens?" Ran fidgets with her fingers. Shinichi promptly holds her hands.
Kaito smiles. "Yep, I've got it covered, Ran-san. Just go and have a good time and come back early if you can."
They probably wouldn’t.
Shinichi also has a theory about having a good time on Valentine's Day.
For them, it's not possible anymore.
They make it to the reservation in peace and the lobster Ran ordered is on its way when Shinichi's phone rings. It's their home number, so it has to be Kaito. He takes a deep breath to mentally prepare himself for a disaster, but instead of destruction he gets his son's voice.
"Heiji jichan?" Conan says.
Shinichi pulls the phone away and glares at the screen. Why would his own son call Hattori, not him? Shinichi did set Hattori’s number on their speed dial after his and Ran’s, but nevertheless he is gravely disappointed.
"Conan?" he asks, Ran frowning.
"Oh Dad? Sorry, I want to call Heiji jichan. Goodb—”
Shinichi narrows his eyes and interrupts before his son can hang up. “Hey buddy, is everything ok?”
“Um, It's Kaito jichan, dad. He's dying."
Shinichi's brain processes the fact that his toddler is nowhere near harm, and he exhales very loudly in relief. And once he processes what his son actually said, he chokes on his own saliva. Ran leans towards him, eyebrows knitted together. 'What's wrong?' she mouths. Shinichi can't even bring himself to say it.
"What—” he coughs into the phone. "What do you mean, Conan? You didn't make someone stick a fork up the socket again, did you? Conan, I told you that is dangerous."
Ran gasps, horror freezing her face. Both her hands fly to her mouth as she stands up, dropping to the floor next to Shinichi's chair. He runs a hand through his hair and slowly shakes his head, reassuring her that their son is ok. Although there is someone dying and they should be on their way home already.
"He ate something from the fridge, Dad. Now he's moving funny and he sounds weird."
If he tunes everything out, he can indeed listen to faint noises in the background. That's probably Kaito having a hard time.
"What is it?" Ran asks, squeezing Shinichi's thigh.
"Kuroba ate something and is now dying."
"DYING?" She pulls herself up and paces around in panic. "He didn't eat the stew did he? Because Sonoko sent us that and she said it’s something called Bouillabaisse which is—”
“— fish... stew." Shinichi finishes lamely.
Which Kaito is tragically allergic to.
"We need to go," he jumps from his seat, drawing his wallet and throwing some money on the table. He wishes no one would steal it because they're in a hurry and he always sees people throwing money on tables at movies so he figures it works. Out of luck, the restaurant Shinichi picked is a few minute drive from their house. There's a nice chance they'll get to save Kaito.
Shinichi's theories have been proven correct:
1. He's no longer simply Kudo Shinichi, great Detective of the East and husband of Mouri Ran. He's now Kudo Shinichi, Conan's dad. 2. Therefore, it's tragically impossible to enjoy Valentine's Day with only the woman he loves.  3. His son is perfectly okay with conveniently inconveniencing his uncle Heiji at any given circumstance (in this case, he calls Heiji after Shinichi hangs up just to see which one of them would arrive to save Kaito the fastest). 4. Couldn't Kaito have picked another moment to try and die?
Shinichi's Valentine's Day is now being spent at the ER, with his four year old son fast asleep in his wife’s arms while said wife stares glassy-eyed at the television in the waiting room. It turns out that Conan was trying to call Heiji instead of him because he did not want to ruin the “special day for mommies and daddies” for his own mommy and daddy.
Well, it doesn’t really matter now. Everyone’s Valentine’s Day has been ruined beyond repair. It’s something they’d definitely look back and laugh about, but looking around the room, Shinichi’s certain that none of them has enough energy to muster a nice joke.
Although, he actually chuckles when he hears Kazuha say, “I told you something was gonna happen tonight, Heiji. I told you so.”
There are bags under Ran's eyes and her hair is disheveled, the red sweater she'd carefully picked for their date now draped loosely around their son for his warmth. Shinichi snorts, feeling mocked. All he wanted was a romantic night with his wife. That's all.
He sticks his hand into his pocket, thumb flicking over the pendant of the necklace he was supposed to give to Ran as a surprise. It's a simple necklace. Not that he doesn't have the money—it's just that Ran doesn't care about expensive stuff.
"Hey," A whisper pulls him from his reveries and Shinichi glances at his wife. Ran looks tired, but so damn beautiful. How could someone as gorgeous as her have ended up with a piece of geeky detective like him? "Don't beat yourself up."
He sighs, blinking as he drags the necklace out of his pocket. "We've changed, haven't we?" He brings his eyes up to Ran's.
“Of course we have. There are three of us now. It doesn't mean we can't have a good time. Look at Aoko-san and Kuroba-kun, I’d say they’re having it worse than us.” Ran smiles knowingly, hand caringly brushing over Conan's hair.  “Also, is that my present?”
Shinichi smiles back at her, lifting his hands. "It is... Yeah, it's supposed to be your present."
"I love it!" Ran laughs.
"I already know you do." Shinichi takes one last look at the necklace and decides that it will look better around Ran’s neck. He would gladly help Ran put the necklace on, but Conan is an effective clinger, both arms locked around his mom’s neck.
"Shinichi… thank you. I didn't have time to get you a present, sorry." She mumbles the last part of the sentence with guilt, eyes still locked with his. He can see the apologetic shine in her eyes, even though he doesn’t understand why she feels the need to apologize to him. He doesn’t want anything else from her. She’s already everything he can ever wish for.
"I don’t need anything else," he says, pushing the necklace into Ran's pocket before leaning over to peck at his wife’s lips.
Shinichi has another theory about this night.
It didn't turn out to be what he was expecting it to be: his friend almost accidentally killed himself; his four year old son almost witnessed someone die; his best friend is willing to drop anything just to attend to said son; they nearly ran over an old lady in their haste to go home to save Kaito's life (which was proven futile anyway, because Heiji miraculously appeared first to get them to the hospital) and all of them are now ending their very special night at the hospital as Kaito recovers from his near-death experience.
It was a tragedy. Everything went wrong except for one thing. Shinichi and Ran went through it all together.
Fall Ball (Kokichi x Reader)
“Hello~ I was wondering if I could request a School AU type were; Y/N and Kokichi are very good friends. And their school is hosting a dance. Kokichi really likes Y/N and wants to take them, but he could never admit it. So Kokichi asks for help from his other friends on how to ask his crush out and jajskakajs. I can just imagine it being so funny and cute. I know you will do great and I hope this is a good request. (Im always soft for the supreme leader)”
This is such a cute request! I am honestly not in tune with Kokichi’s personality, so I’m sorry if it’s a bit OOC! ^-^ Story under the tag~
Kokichi was a bizarre character, to say the least. He pranked, insulted, and drove everyone he knew to the brink of insanity/annoyance
Why people still hung out with him? Everyone who really knew him knows deep down he’d never really hurt them, even if he said things that took it too far sometimes. If he did, he’s always try to make up for it in his own kiddish way
His friends needed to be people who wouldn’t burst from annoyance easily, and that’s where you came in. You indulged him, letting him pull pranks and annoy you while making sure he didn’t take it too far and possibly kill someone (you swear, Korekiyo would’ve caught fire that one time).
He would never admit it, but he was grateful. After all, the funnest pranks take two minds!
Your latest scheme had been the classic water bucket prank on Shuichi. he was located on the side of Hopes Peak Academy, conveniently placed right under a window two stories up. He was with Kaede, both of them laughing and chatting like the old friends they were
“So, uh...Kaede? The fall formal is coming up, and I, well I was wondering if you’d like to go with m-”
His heartfelt speech was abruptly cut off, the sound of splashing water was all that was heard as he was soaked head to toe from above
Both he and Kaede looked up to see two snickering children leaning from a window, one of them holding a bucket
Y/n leaned back into the classroom they were hiding in, setting the bucket down on the floor next to her
“Aw, Kokichi, I love that prank! I can’t believe we’ve done it to Shuichi eight times this week!”
“Yep, and tonight we will make it nine!”
“I do feel kinda bad, though. I know how badly Shuichi wants to take Kaede to the dance next week. Like she’s gonna say no though, right?”
This was the exact topic Kokichi had been trying to avoid yet bring up at the same time. Everyone knows Kokichi has feelings, but he doesn’t allow himself to feel the ones that make him feel bad. He doesn’t like to feel guilt, stress, or negative emotions in general.
“Kokichi? You alive?” A hand was waving in front of his face, he must have zoned out
“Of course! I’m just thinking of something we could do to Kaito when he asks Maki to the dance.” He fiddled with one of the latches on his shirt. “Are you going to the dance Y/n? It’s gonna be mega lame, but Himiko is performing so everyone is trying to go.”
Y/n let out a laugh, punching him in the shoulder. “I’d only go if someone asked me, but I doubt that’ll happen. The only action I’d be getting is from the snack bar”
Kokichi listened as she laughed. He hated to admit it, but he was feeling things that for once he couldn’t repress. He liked Y/n, not just as a best friend, and it was driving him insane! Call it cliche but he really wanted to ask her out to the dance, show her off and have a great time, just the two of them
Kokichi resisted the urge to slam his head into the wall when Y/n grabbed his hand. “Let’s go, Shuichi is bound to be running up here now to kill us!”
After sprinting through the school and evading Shuichi (and getting split up) Kokichi decided to head home, shooting Y/n a quick text to tell her where he was going.
Where he really went, however, was his DICE headquarters, walking in to see all of his members lounging around or playing cards
“Kokichi! Why are you here? Are we setting plan ACES into movement?”
“No, that’s not till next Tuesday. I actually need...advice”
Everyone seemed more interested at this statement. He never needed help!”
“What do you need?”
Kokichi walked over and sat on the card table, a few played cards fluttering to the floor
“Well, today we- Y/n and I- pulled that prank on Shuichi again, right? And then we started talking about the dance next week, and it made me think of going with Y/n, and-”
He felt a hand over his mouth, and cringed at the sudden squealing in the air
“Omigod you wanna go with Y/n! That’s amazing! When are you gonna ask her?!”
Kokichi shoved the hand off of his mouth. “I’m not asking her! I don’t want to ruin the friendship we have.” “Well,” one of his members walked around him, putting their hands on his shoulders “Something tells me she likes you too~” “W-what?!”
Kokichi stood up and paced around for a moment, asking his friends how they knew
“You two already act like a really childish married couple! It’s obvious whatever you feel for her is returned in full.”
Kokichi thought about this for a second, before responding, “Okay, how do I ask her? Nothing sappy or anything!”
His friends grinned, already laying out blueprints for their plan
Kokichi came to school the next day and began ignoring Y/n, as it was part of their plan
“Okay, so first ignore her, then set the glitter bombs to explode at four, and when the teachers are distracted, find Y/n and have Himiko do the magic trick and finally ask her to the dance! Perfect!”
It was not perfect.
It was incredibly hard to hide from Y/n, as she was looking for him all day. On top of that, one of the glitter bombs (which had been safely kept with Kaito) exploded in said student’s backpack, covering everyone in the room with glitter. One of those people was Himiko, who had to go home to wash it off, and in return, Tenko attacked Kaito for ‘hurting’ her.
Kokichi had caused the chaos he originally planned, but not the way he wanted. Students and teachers alike were running around the hall, teachers trying to get kids to the nurses office for glitters in their eyes and students taking this opportunity to leave boring classes
The purple haired kid stood in the corner of some lockers and a classroom, staring at his phone. He had tried to video call Kaito, only receiving a view of Kaito screaming and sprinting, the crazed yells of Tenko behind him, before it finally disconnected. He texted Kaito as well, but none of his messages were being read.
Sighing, Kokichi slipped his phone into one of the many pockets in his jacket before turning around, watching all of the kids and students crowd the halls. Someone rammed into his shoulder, causing him to hit the wall
“Hey, watch it!” Kokichi turned around to glare down the careless student, only to be shoved into the wall again
“Why have you been ignoring me all day? I know you see me!”
The girl in front of him was not a careless kid, but his best friend, Y/n.
“Oh, Y/n! Come here often?” Kokichi put on his best suave smile and leaned against the wall
Y/n punched him in the shoulder. “I don’t appreciate your jokes right now, Shuichi. I want to know whats going on! Why have you been ignoring me? Why are bombs going off? Why is Tenko about to get a murder charge?!” “Why not?” She let out a huff and at Kokichi, folding her arms
“Kokichi, I want to know what’s going on. Now. This is insane, even for you!”
Kokichi looked down at the girl, a million thoughts running through his head. Before he could clear his thoughts, he heard his own voice ring out
“It was for you.”
Y/n looked taken back, as her expression shifted from anger and annoyance to surprise. “What? You better explain yourself.”
“It was for you,” Kokichi let everything out, watching the girl’s every shift in expression. “I wanted to ask you to the dance, but you know I don’t do those things! I asked for help, even though I never ask for help, so you should feel honored! Of course I asked the most incompetent people, against my better judgement, so everything went wrong. The plan didn’t work, I didn’t get to ask you out, and now I’m...finally defeated. So rub it in my face, before I go and find Kaito myself.”
Kokichi looked down at the floor waiting for Y/n to smack him upside the head and call him an idiot. But when he felt no impact, and heard stifled laughter, he became confused. He looked up to see Y/n trying to hold in fits of giggles, grinning from ear to ear
After the girl finally composed herself she looked at the purple haired boy, tears brimming her smiling eyes. “Kokichi, you are such an idiot.” There it is.
He felt Y/n put her hand on his arm gently, and now it was his turn to be confused. “Dude, you didn’t have to do all of this. Everyone knows I like you, and to be honest I thought you knew too! I just knew that you didn’t...feel...like people usually do, so I tried to get over it.”
They stood in a sincere silence, well, as silent as you can be in a crowded and loud hallway.
But to them, it felt like their own little world, just the two of them and a now slightly awkward silence as they stared at each other
Kokichi was the first to break the silence, letting out an awkward cough and casting his gaze at the ground. “So, are you going to be a jerk and make it?”
Y/n let out a small laugh, smirking at him. “Oh, definitely.”
“Ugh, okay, here goes...Y/n, will you do me the dishonor of going to the fall ball with me?”
“I would love to, dork”
I’m gonna start writing my fanfic about my Animal Crossing island 🤔
Here’s the summary I have
———
—PREMISE AND PLOT—
Moondrop Island is a tiny uncharted island somewhere in the northern Caribbean Sea, originally inhabited by only furries—two-legged talking animal creatures! Furries are not found anywhere else on Earth, aside from tiny uncharted islands. A long time ago, furries and humans coexisted. But furries eventually were mistreated. An elder furry with magical powers erased all humans’ memory of them, and they all fled to small uncharted islands, hidden by mystic forces. There were no humans who knew of the existence of these furries, or of these seemingly mystical islands, until a small boat sailing from an island in the Bahamas in got into a shipwreck during what was supposed to be a three-hour whale-watching tour. Everyone on the boat survived, and miraculously washed up on the gently moonlit shores of Moondrop Island 2:00 that morning. Tom Nook takes in the castaways, gives them homes on the island, and lets them pay with a spontaneous form of currency he comes up with—Nook Miles. He offers the Nook Miles as a reward for improving the island. In the meantime, he and everyone else are putting together all their knowledge and trying to build a GPS that can track the island’s location in the world to lead the castaways back home. However, since the furries cannot go back to the human world and show themselves to people, that would mean... they’d have to say goodbye forever...
—CHARACTERS—
Pastell Sugar (Original character (self-insert) Age- 22 Birthday- February 4 Favorite song- My Place Very naive and expressive, animated, eccentric. Can be quite moody. Some may say Pastell is annoying. Pastell’s moods can come in as many “colors” as the rainbow. Pastell is creative and likes to make the mundane things exciting. She also likes to exaggerate things. Pastell likes to create things such as art or decorations, and pretend she’s doing magic in the process. Pastell gets along well with Haku, and Pekoe. Rodeo is her snack buddy. Haku Yowane (Vocaloid) Age- 24 Birthday- November 21 Favorite song- Stale Cupcakes Haku is wistful and emotional, and at times dreary. A bit of a crybaby. Likes music, but is too shy to perform in front of others. She has a plush cat named Snowbell that she carries around everywhere. She gets along quite well with Pastell and Goldie. Haku is a very caring person who likes to help with her friends’ problems. However, she can be hard on herself a lot. She also likes writing stories and poems. Before ending up on Moondrop, Haku’s friends back at home were Miku, Neru, Luka, Kaito, Akaito, and her older brother Dell. Rhona Aequor (Original character) Age- 24 Birthday- March 10 Favorite song- K.K. Bossa Stoic and mysterious. Appears strict, but is misunderstood. Actually a very kind person. A lover of all things related to water and the ocean. A marine biologist. Loves fish and marine creatures. She is very fascinated with Flo and Sly, who are both marine creatures... but as furries. Rhona loves to swim, and is a free-diver. Rhona is calm and collected... usually. She can go nuts about fish and can spend hours at the museum, either looking at fish exhibits, or chattering with Blathers. Back at home, she has a girlfriend, Nagisa. Rhona often thinks and worries about Nagisa, longing to see her again and to let her know she’s safe. Nico Yazawa (Love Live!) Age- 22 Birthday- July 22 Favorite song- K.K. Bubblegum Nico is a dweeb. But she still thinks she’s better than you. Nico is quite self-centered and troublesome. She’s usually the one causing the most drama out of the group. She especially doesn’t get along with Luana... at first, anyway. Nico wants to be the biggest pop-star on the island! (Sorry, Audie.) And soon, the world! But Nico has very bad luck and things keep on getting in her way! Such as tarantulas! Nico actually gets along well with Vladimir, because they’re both too short to be taken seriously. She ends up keeping a talking pet tarantula in her house named Terry. Back at home, Nico’s friends are Maki, Eli, and Nozomi. Rin Hoshizora (Love Live!) Age- 20 Birthday- November 1 Favorite song- Rockin’ K.K. Rin is cheerful, energetic, and the life of the party. She is spontaneous and likes animals a lot. She even has her own catchphrase, much like a furry... it’s “nya!” When Rin discovers furries, and the fact humans mistreated them, she feels angry at humanity. Rin gets along great with Audie. Rin is usually the one throwing all the parties on the island, and organizing the fun sport and game events. She is usually filled with energy. But deep inside, she can be quite emotional. Back at home, Rin’s best friend is Hanayo. Her other friends are Kotori, Umi, and Honoka. Luana Kai (Original character) Age- 23 Birthday- July 7 Favorite song- K.K. Adventure Luana is a fearless, impulsive daredevil. She leaps before she looks, and she’s brave to a fault. She can be obnoxiously brash. She’s also the one who got everyone into this mess... Luana was the captain of the small boat, When the storm came, she refused to turn the boat back. Luana is a huge tomboy and has always dreamed of being a pirate. She likes the ocean as well, and has a intriguing fascination with geography and geology. She doesn’t know a thing about technology, but her knowledge goes to good use with making the GPS. Nico and Luana are rivals. Back at home, her friends she left behind are Umiko, and her older sister Oliana. Teto Kasane (Vocaloid) Age- 21 Birthday- April 1 Favorite song- K.K. Stroll Teto comes off as weird and hyperactive. She likes memes and uses them a lot in conversation. She is often called annoying. However, Teto is an awkward and modest girl who just isn’t that good at making friends. She is often cheerful and likes to help people. She can be clumsy and sometimes doesn’t know what to say and is awkward. Teto has a big appetite and likes to bake and cook, especially sweets. Teto gets along well with Bettina, who understands her well. Back at home, her friends were Gumi, Gakupo, Meiko, Rin, and Len. Octavia Scherzando (Original character) Age- 25 Birthday- October 30 Favorite song- K.K. Fusion Outgoing and charismatic, yet sentimental. The most mature one of the human group. Also the responsible one. The fun “mom friend.” Her hobby is music. She plays the electric bass and piano. She also dances. Rumor has it that she once was a school idol back in high school, but she won’t talk about it. Apparently she also used to sing. But something must have happened, because nobody has really heard her sing either. Can her mysterious past ever be revealed? Octavia gets along well with Shep. She keeps a talking black bass in her house. The fish, not the instrument. Back at home, she leaves behind her close friend Aria, and friends from high school, Hibiki, Ursula, Santana, and Ruya. Animal Residents Furries have the same lifespans as humans, meaning they age the same in years. 18 in human years is 18 in furry years, regardless of the species of the furry. Flo the penguin Age- 23 Birthday- September 2 Flo is a mostly laid-back penguin, though she can have quite a temper when it comes to people being unfair. Her hobby is music, and her style is mostly punk. Pekoe the cub Age- 19 Birthday- May 18 Pekoe is a very kind and sweet bear. She can be a bit timid, and sometimes worries she isn’t that interesting. She is a great listener and sometimes can be quirky. Audie the wolf Age- 26 Birthday- August 31 Audie is a very outgoing and expressive wolf. She can be excitable, and uses a lot of language like “fabulous.” She is unexpectedly very tough and can be a “mama bear,” fiercely protecting her friends in need. Shep the sheepdog Age- 24 Birthday- November 24 Shep is a fashionista, and a bit of a hipster. He’s always on top of what’s cool and unique. He talks in a way that’s almost hard to decipher for people who are unfamiliar to his “brand” of “lingo.” Portia the dalmatian Age- 25 Birthday- October 25 Portia is a glamorous and stylish young lady who loves fashion, and may seem a little self-absorbed at times. She doesn’t judge other people based on looks, however, Sly the alligator Age- 20 Birthday- November 15 Sly is an alligator who loves to play and work out. His favorite sport is football (the kind where you throw the ball and tackle.) He also likes to swim. He is always enthusiastic and raring to go, but is very patient and understanding towards those who can’t keep up with him. Vladimir the cub Age- 28 Birthday- August 2 Vladimir is a grumpy little bubblegum pink bear who is never taken seriously because he is small and cute. He is therefore always angry and annoyed with people. He gets along with Nico because of similar problems. He can be kind when not angered... just don’t call him adorable. Goldie the golden retriever Age- 21 Birthday- December 27 Goldie loves flowers and nature, and loves to be outdoors. She is calm, humble, and polite, but can be angered easily by people who think they’re better than others. She doesn’t really get along well with Shep... Rodeo the bull Age- 22 Birthday- October 29 Rodeo is a laid-back, gentle bull who loves things like flowers, snacks, watching the clouds drift by, and taking naps. He gets along well with Pastell for these reasons. He is very relaxed, but sometimes he likes to work out, at the prompt of Audie. Bettina the mouse Age- 20 Birthday- June 12 Bettina is a chipper, kind mouse who likes cooking. Her favorite foods are pasta dishes with cheese in them. She likes to read books, and her favorites are usually mystery novels or classic children’s literature.
—CHAPTERS AND SUMMARIES— (so far)
Pilot Episode- Luana, working part time as a resort in the Bahamas, was the captain of a small tour boat. Rhona was the assistant captain and tour guide for what was supposed to only be a three-hour whale-watching tour... When they headed for a storm out in the open sea, Luana was reckless and refused to turn back, even though Rhona warily advised her to retreat. All the passengers had a bad feeling about it. Pastell was sitting next to Haku, whom she had just met, and had been having a conversation with her. Nico and Rin had just met, and were sitting next to each other as well. Teto was meanwhile trying to make friends with Octavia, the “mysterious pretty lady” sitting in the shade. Her bouncy and hyper personality repelled most people, but Octavia found it endearing... Now everyone was panicking. The intense storm grew stronger, and eventually flipped over and wrecked the boat once it was out in the open sea. The strong current swept away the parts and passengers to a nearby mysterious island… Looking for Snowbell Shortly after everyone is conscious and brought to safety, there is relief that everyone on the boat had survived. However, thoughts in Haku’s mind are racing, and she’s too ashamed to tell the others why. Haku’s plush cat, Snowbell, which she took everywhere, is missing. When Haku came to, Snowbell was nowhere to be found. Snowbell is extremely precious to Haku, and she cannot be without her. Haku breaks down and tells everyone that she is missing her plush cat, and surprisingly, the she is responded to nicely and is offered help. However, Luana thinks Haku is being a crybaby. At one point Haku is about to give up, crying as she imagines Snowbell floating all alone in the ocean, lost forever. But Luana, who initially said Haku was overreacting, spots Snowbell behind some rocks on the beach. Just then, the tide begins to carry Snowbell away. Luana jumps straight into the rough tide and retrieves Snowbell for Haku, even getting scraped knees in the process. Haku concludes that Luana isn’t so harsh after all. Island Improvement and Nook Miles Tom Nook feels there is a predicament, there are 8 new members of the island ad they have nowhere to go, and they need housing, at least temporarily. They have no money to offer, so as leader of the island, he decides to make up a brand-new system of currency on the spot—Nook Miles. They will be rewarded for decorating and improving the island. In the meanwhile, Nook and everyone have to work hard building houses for the castaways. Meeting Everyone An episode where everyone interacts with each other, and everyone gets to know each other. The story of Furries An episode that tells the backstory of the furries, and lore of the furries. Pastell and Haku’s Mystery Island Tour Pastell and Haku win a Tour on a Mystery Island, and meet Audie, a stray wolf furry alone on an island. Pastell and Haku decide to invite Audie to Moondrop Island. Blathers and the Museum Blathers opens up his museum. Rhona’s marine life account of the island The chapter is told by Rhona’s point of view, as she converses with Blathers, dives in the ocean, fishes, is curious about Sly and Flo (an alligator and penguin furry respectively), and observes the rest of the characters going about their day. Luana’s chaotic account of the island Luana and Rhona decide to hang out. Rhona is down-to-earth and calm and collected. Luana is chaotic, wild, and a loose cannon. Luana always runs and scares the fish when Rhona is trying to catch it. Every. Single. Time. The Mysterious Mia Okuda Nico is a fan of Mia Okuda, the mysterious retired school idol with a frilly-gothic image, long black hair, and a deep, velvety voice. When Octavia first comes into Nico’s room, she sees a poster of Mia Okuda hanging on the wall. (Don’t ask why that was being sold in Nook’s Cranny. I know it makes no sense.) “This is one of my favorite idols.” Nico says. “She’s pretty obscure. You probably don’t know of her.” But what Nico doesn’t know that Mia Okuda is actually Octavia back in high school! Nico and drama Nico causes some drama. Teto thinks Octavia is a vampire Self-explanatory title. Bettina and Rodeo’s cooking show Bettina tries to put on a cooking show. Rodeo eats the ingredients. Shooting Stars There is a meteor shower one night. Everyone meets Celeste and watches shooting stars with her. The next morning, mysterious star fragments wash up on the beach. One fragment starts glowing and goes inside of Snowbell, Haku’s plush cat. Snowbell then comes to life, as a real cat. This is because Haku had wished that Snowbell could come alive. From then on, Snowbell is Haku’s pet. Teto’s birthday Teto celebrates her birthday on the island. The Tarantula Incident Nico is terrified of tarantulas. However, tarantulas unfortunately love her. Nico Yazawa has a huge cult following of tarantulas, as she is the most popular school idol in tarantula society... Nico and Luana also don’t get along at all at first. Nico is a total diva, and Luana is a total slob. Nico uses her Nook Mikes ticket at the same time as Luana, and they have to go to the same island. The island is infested with tarantulas everywhere. (Also, please don’t ask how they can do mystery island tours without a GPS, lol) Nico is terrified. The tarantulas however, adore Nico and want to get her autograph, so they climb on her. Nico screams for Luana to help her. Luana fearlessly pulls out her net and attempts to rescue Nico from the tarantulas by just catching all of them. However, the tarantulas see Luana as a threat and run up to her, biting her simultaneously and knocking her out with their poison. Nico faints from the shock (again), leaving her terrrifying tarantula fans to climb over her and steal her belongings as souvenirs. Nico and Luana are rescued and they go back home. Nico apologizes to Luana and thanks her for trying to save her, and they form a friendship from them on. However, Nico accidentally takes one tarantula back with her. She eventually ends up keeping him as a pet. His name is Terry and he can talk. He becomes like Nico’s sidekick and partner in crime. Nico looks to Terry for advice. Bunny Day Madness Zipper T. Bunny comes to the island and hides eggs everywhere. Madness ensues. Grumpy Vladimir Vladimir is grumpy because he’s small, cute, and pink, and nobody takes him seriously. Dreams of home Everyone becomes wistful and starts dreaming and reminiscing of home during a slow, rainy day. A somber, psychological episode to break the pace. Also we get to see Rhona cry. But not Luana, because she (allegedly) never cries. Octavia goes fishing Octavia is taken fishing by Rhona. Octavia only catches bass. (Gee, wonder why.) Wisp the ghost Everyone is doing a test of courage, when they stumble across a real ghost! However, the ghost is much more afraid of them than they are of it... The town tune panic Everyone fights over what the town tune should be. To compromise, everyone puts two notes of their favorite song and make a brand new song out of all their songs altogether. The end result song ends up sounding like a disaster. It gets stuck in the heads of everyone on the island and drives the population crazy. Bonus: Octavia’s backstory The first of the Bonus backstory chapters. We get to see Octavia in high school as Mia Okuda, and finally find out what event made her stop singing... (SPOILERS: It was because she was publically criticized and humiliated because “her voice was too deep for a teen idol’s.” Then she saw all the memes people made about her voice and became too ashamed to sing, or even listen to herself again for a long time.) Finding my voice again The black bass Octavia keeps in her house begins to talk one morning. It tells Octavia that it’s time. With a little help and guidance, the fish is determined to help Octavia find her voice and start singing again. Octavia is a mess at first, and at one point she becomes even more discouraged than before she started, convinced she lost the ability to sing forever, and now there’s even proof. She runs out of her house and sits on a bench, distraught. Flo comes up to her, in a good mood, offering half of her corn dog. Octavia can no longer hide her emotions and starts sobbing. When Flo asks what’s wrong, Octavia tells her everything. Flo ends up giving Octavia sage advice. “Each song is kinda like a journey. When you sing, just pretend you’re the heroine.” Octavia returns to her house, with a new determination inside her. She starts singing again, for the first time in eight years. Nico is walking outside. She’s feeling glum because her ice cream dropped in the pond, when she hears a powerful singing voice that’s undeniably the voice of one of her favorite idols... She runs straight into Octavia’s nearby house to tell her, “Oh my gosh! Mia Okuda is on the island! I hear her singing!” When Nico realizes Octavia was singing, the pieces finally click... Octavia was Mia Okuda all along! Nico faints dramatically and theatrically. Idol Madness With Nico realizing one of her favorite idols was on the island, she feels so tingly, but also overshadowed. Audie also wants to be an idol, so Nico already has competition. Not only that, but Haku is aiming to be some sort of musician of some kind. But she’s so shy that she doesn’t show her face much anyway. But with all the talent on the island, Tom Nook suggests everyone should share their talents in an upcoming talent show and dance party night! The Island’s Talent Show Dance Party Night! All day, everyone is getting ready and looking forward to the island’s big shiny event. Haku’s stage fright Haku has stage fright about performing her music. What is Pastell’s talent? Everyone on the island has such talent. Everyone has their music, Bettina can cook, and Sly can lift weights. Even Rodeo can eat five ice cream cones in under a minute... without getting brain freeze! It seems everyone on the island has some sort of talent... except for Pastell. Just what is Pastell’s hidden talent? Moondrop Fame With all the talent and recent development on Moondrop, word got out to K.K. Slider that the island was one to look out for... to the point where he called, scheduling an appearance! K.K. Slider’s Grand Appearance! K.K. Slider finally appears and gives a performance. Goodbye, Pekoe? Pekoe plans to move away from the island, back to her home with her old family...
the moon
this is the first time writing after while so it’s not the best. i definitely need more practice.
The loss of your best friend shattered your world. She was your one true friend, you did everything together, especially getting into trouble. You both made each other laugh just by looking at each other. You often joked that if she were a man, you would’ve fallen in love with her. You hadn’t seen her since she left for America when you guys were teenagers, but you called her single everyday. Sometimes it even felt like she was right there with you, laughing and talking.
But all of a sudden the calls got less frequent. She stopped reaching out and when you did it took her days to respond. You knew she was going through a lot and that she dealt with it by drinking. You often wished you were there for her, you felt so useless being so far away.
You were supposed to reunite again for your 21st birthday. But that can’t happen anymore.
“It’ll be a night to remember, Kaito, we have so many shenanigans to catch up to.”
“Yeah, I can’t believe the last time we saw each other we were only 15. I bet you still look the same, unless you magically grew an ass!”
“Well I bet you’ll look the same unless puberty kicked in and you grew a pair of boobs!”
You sat at your window. The moonlight filled your dark room. How can life go on like nothing happened? How can someone just disappear forever? Forever. The thought formed a tight knot in your throat. You buried your head in your arms as they rested on the window.
“Oh, Heather.” You choked out. “I should’ve been there. I should’ve bought a ticket there and dragged you out of there. I should’ve been there for you.” You cried. You didn’t care if people thought you were crazy for yelling at the moon. It made you feel better in a way, to imagine that she’s the moon in the sky, silently listening to your rants.
...this is worthless, I’m rambling and procrastinating. Sorry ‘bout that.
(minor spoilers for Naruto and Detective Conan as well as major spoilers for Magic Kaito and... Avengers Endgame?)
I’m procrastinating, don’t mind me. And during that time of procrastination I have been watching a show I used to watch when I was like 12 or 13, so it’s been a while. And even though that show has some obvious flaws - flaws I will be writing about in a bit - it find myself liking it. So why?
Magic Kaito is a spin-off show of the much bigger Detective Conan anime, which was actually my first anime ever and one of the few memories I have from age 0-4. I actually went onto the wiki and looked up the episode, which was a lot harder than you can imagine: episode 282 which features (for that show anyway) rather graphic imagery of a bloody corpse and like blood in showers and stuff. I don’t know if I just randomly watched the most traumatizing episodes of animes or - which is far more likely - I just remember them darker thant they were but the Naruto episode right afterwards was the one where Gaara tries to murder Lee at the Chunin exams which is also a rather dark episode. (I know, it doesn’t really matter but that was season 3 episode 58 of the original Naruto series). I bet you could find out the exact day and station that I was watching because there’s virtually no way those two episodes would ever follow each other more than once.
I guess that’s not what it’s really about but Detective Conan was probably one of the core animes I watched when I was younger because it was well known and free online. It was also the one that got me into doing QCs for subtitles (funny story, since I had been a QC for a while and seen the really bad mistakes some translators did, I actually applied for the “job” of a translator, that was mere months before I wrote my Cambridge Certificate exam which I, not to brag, passed with C2, and I had been rejected, which probably fed into my fear of rejection but is also  very funny retrospectively.)
I don’t like Detective Conan that much, it’s a fun episodic detective story that has a very, very thin overarching plot and is probably only ever end when the writers don’t have ideas for crimes anymore. And Magic Kaito suffers from its bigger sibling immensely. In case you don’t know, and I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t, Magic Kaito tells the story of a character that occasionally appears in Detective Conan - a thief who is also a magician (which is quite frankly the best pairing I have ever seen, it’s such a good idea!). Kaito is the son of one of the biggest magicians ever who gets killed in a mysterious accident. One day he finds out that his dad was the thief in the moonlight Kaito Kid and murdered by a mysterious organization - who he now tries to lure out of hiding to protect his father’s legacy and put them in jail.. or something? I mean, there is some revenge fantasy implied, but he’s also like 17 and it’s a children’s anime, so he probably doesn’t want to kill them. Anyway, the way he does it is dressing himself up as Kaito Kid to attract those criminals. And that’s the entire premise of a 24 episodes anime.
Before we get into anything, here some in-universe lore that has been stuck in my mind since 13. My favourite thing about Kid is that his name was also “master thief 1412″, the number being the police file number, but if you write the numbers in a certain way it looks like the word “Kid”, a name given him by Shinichi Kudo’s father (meaning Conan’s father). And both Conan’s and Kaito’s fathers knew each other and were aquantances that respected each other? Like, Conan’s mom went to Kaito’s dad for acting training and stuff which is how his dad figured out that he was Kaito Kid. And when her training ended Conan’s dad gave her a card to give Kaito’s dad with an exclaimationpoint - which was an answer to a card he had previously given him with a question mark. Excuse me if my speech is unclear, I am just nostalgic.
Okay, let’s get started: the series suffers from weak characters and the introduction of too many ideas. That’s it. To get the first thing out of the way: if you make an anime about a spin off character and the main character of the main show keeps showing up that means you don’t trust your spin off to stand on its own feet. I love appearances of in universe characters of other shows, I love the MCU, but imagine if Iron Man kept popping up in Jessica Jones. I mean, he can’t because he’s dead but still. Or Aang keept being part of The Legend of Korra. From 24 episodes, Conan/Shinichi is a major character in 4 of them and is also kinda important in another one. That does not really speak of confidence about your series’ characters which is fair considering it got rebooted. Also, every episode starts with Kaito Kid “opening commentary” the episode before the curtain opens and the actual thing starts - and it also ends with Kid shortly commenting on it and bowing in the end which more often than not features the phrase “I will keep entertaining you if you wish so.”, which is a kinda funny meta commentary of the creator’s being painfully aware of their situation.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, there are really good scenes and funny moments; the one that made me laugh was when Kid hasn’t stolen anything for like three months and since Kaito still goes to high school his friend is kinda disappointed and he thinks: “Who do you think I am? A weekly manga magazine?”, which is already funny but literally a few miliseconds afterwards his friend goes: “Oh, I know why he hasn’t stolen anything for so long! He’s dead!” and he falls off his chair. These jokes wouldn’t be fun on their own but their close proximity to each other makes them work so well. I’m like 70% sure this happened to Gosho Aoyama at some point Over all there is a lot of very good imagery, the magic tricks and heists are fun and often times we have parallel’s, call backs and very well fitting juxtapositions, but over all there’s just a bunch of not-great going on, which I will list now:
1. The Jukebox and the Poker Face: The entire show is also framed by this jukebox Kaito’s dad has left him which has 24 disk and an appendix playing some advice that is tangentially related to the episode. And what more often than not gets repeated is that “he should not forget his poker face”, which, yeah, seems like generally good advice for a magician but... why? It doesn’t serve narrative purpose at all. There is no theme or deeper meaning in the show? The idea of a poker face doesn’t even gets touched on outside of the first episode? Like, otherwise he never breaks his pokerface and there’s like no tension between his real self and the poker face which might as well be a metaphor for Kaito vs. his thief persona. I dunno, am I reading too much into this - why poker face?! Further more, because the jukebox only has 25 audio tracks in total and they play every time Kaito is up to a heist, it kinda feels like he doesn’t do anything in between the episodes? Like, if he listens to that juke box chronologically, which seemed implied, he has only gone to like 25 heists in total which.. is fine for real life statistics but doesn’t really make sense since there is no sense of time in that universe and it just feels like he’s done a lot more?
2. Magic: Yupp, in a universe with a magician reliant on smart tricks and improvisation like a magician on stage there are witches with actual magic. There is actual magic introduced to a world that has previously never had magic before and, believe it or not, magic has no purpose at all. Actually, it does kinda come up in three episodes and they do some really fun stuff the first time with the idea that an illusionist wants to trick and entertain an audience, change their hearts which has different if not more value than actual magic changing the people themselves. Really cool stuff. Would be a shame if the writers wouldn’t know how to go from there and it never comes up again.
3. Super weak as fuck characters outside of Kaito: There are, in total six characters that are not Conan which switch up being the focus of an episode. The witch that practises afor mentioned actual magic is this archetype of a seductress who uses love spells to make boys like her and because her magic doesn’t work on Kaito Kid, she’s like super into him. First, she wants to kill him because she detests his trickery but then she just kinda wants to bang him? And that’s her entire character. Then there is a detective. I didn’t even bother learning his name because he’s the “main challenge” for the first episode he appears and then just kinda stands next to the police officer occasionally to drop observations for exposition or tell Kid something he doesn’t know. I mean, you cannot introduce another high school detective into a universe that whose main character is literally a high school detective. It was as if Jessica Jones kept having Iron Man and another random play boy billionaire with a weird robot suit. There just hast to be a better character than that? Make it a very smart police officer, just anything else. It feels like most of the characters are mostly window dressing and there is just no emotional arc to them whatsoever - they’re treated like most side characters that get shown something by Kaito Kid, have a change of heart and never appear again - with the exception that they are on screen. Constantly. Doing nothing at all.
4.The last two episodes: They’re probably the worst. So, there is this “new magician-thief in town and his name is Kaito Corbeau” and he’s kind of the antithesis of Kaito Kid, dressing in the same suit but in black and probably like a joke on the fact that Kaito Kid is a magician who uses doves which are white and crows are black? I mean, it’s fun but the mirror doesn’t really work that much because the words “Kid” and “Corbeau” don’t mirror each other and Kaito Kid rarely uses doves. But I get the point, A for effort, I guess. Anyway, so. Corbeau who looks suspiciously much like Kaito’s dad and apparently knows something about his death, then challenges Kaito to a duel of thieves also being a magician asks him to solve the mistery of how he will steal some precious gem. By the end of the first episode of the two-parter, Corbeau has stolen the gem and Kaito walks home wondering how he did it. As he comes home the lights of his house are turned on, which is weird since he lives alone because his dad is dead and his mother is always travelling the world. But that unexpected visitor turns out to be his mother and my first reaction was... really? No, they would not be doing such a stupid thing, right? Nah, that’s probably a red herring. No way she’s Corbeau. (Spoiler: she’s Corbeau.) And she asks him “if he really wants to do this? If he doesn’t want to become a magician in Vegas or anything?”, which is a reasonable question from a mother: do you really want to be a thief and hunt some criminals who might as well kill you like your da? But it’s also kind of a stupid one because it is absolutely reasonable that he definitely wants to do that and that there is no grain of doubt in his mind that he does. And that is ultimately the problem of the last two episodes: they’re about testing Kid’s commitment which fails on a bunch of levels. The first one being: there is never a struggle on the side of Kid at all. He never doubts himself, Corbeau isn’t even that big of a challenge, considering he has been regularly challenged by genius high school detectives who seem to be the smartest demographic ever, an actual witch, a serial killer+thief, another differen thief and this shady organization that killed his dad. There is no escalation, no actual struggle against all odds making him question his motivations which - he doesn’t even think for longer than a second about his mother’s questions which is why, when Corbeau tells him around the end that it was all to test his commitment, it could have been substituted for literally anything else.
However, that’s not my real problem with that: Kaito Kid is a necessity, not an identity. There is no need for a commitment towards the figure of Kaito Kid because the moment that criminal organization is caught, there is no need for the mantle of Kaito Kid anymore. This whole idea of commitment of character falls apart because Kid is not a superhero. He’s not taking up a huge and never ending task that is going to take forever - Kaito could very well become a big magician in Vegas afterwards, these things are not mutually exclusive which is why that question kinda backfires and makes his mom look bad because she doubts him for no reason whatsoever? Also, Kaito is literally still in high school and 17, they somehow came up with something less rational than having him dress up as a magician at night and hunting criminals by having him drop out of high school and become a magician in Las fucking Vegas with 17. And I get that it’s the last episode and you wanna end it on a heroic note but that didn’t work at all.
(next morning thoughts: I think I kinda understand the underlying problem of those two episodes now, let me, like the show itself compare it to his bigger brother - Detective Conan. There is no similar episode to test the main character’s strength of mind, but his parents often times wonder and ask him if he really wants to do this considering he nearly died the first time, and that is genuine care and if it wasn’t a better idea to let the police handle it; Conan always answers that he needs to keep doing it. However, these kinds of episodes would actually work with Conan as the main character because for one, his parent’s reasoning is way more sensical and two: he’s inherently human. Yeah, he is super smart and knows a bunch of weird shit that helps him solving crimes, but detectives are humans and they never pretend to be otherwise. I’m not saying magicians aren’t humans, the idea of supernatural things that is beautiful and quite literally casts a spell over us, to be willingly tricked into a world where the impossible is possible is a very human thing. Magicians just aren’t, they’re entertainers and try to exceed our reality, to be exceptional and - to be not human. That’s why the show always has him being cocky and witty, rarely struggling more than a bit with a heist, because he needs to. At this point his poker face has quite literally become his entire character.)
I know, I have been rambling, what I wanted to say is: despite all of this I don’t dislike the show. And in a way it suffers from the same Detective Conan problem of having selfcontained stories but an obligation to connect them to each other, weakening the entire thing. And I don’t know why I like it so much, because I like it more than anything reasonable would justify me to. And this is kinda what I need to find out. I’m very tired now and I have three days to work on my paper and I should go to sleep. If you expected a satisfying conclusion to this whole affair: welcome to Magic Kaito and I’m sorry.
~My Idol~
Tumblr media
"(Y/n)!" a familiar voice called. You turned around quickly seeing Len running towards you. He stopped and caught his breath for a second as he smiled at you overly exhausted from so much dancing and singing. You could see the very sweat accumulated on his smooth skin.
He worked so hard, you thought.
"Are you alright?" you asked worried about his health. "Maybe you danced too much..."
He smiled wearily to reassure you even though you kept your worry close at hand. "I'm quite alright. Dancing and singing this much is normal for me, you don't have to worry. I'll be okay."
You returned the smile even though you thought he wouldn't be okay. "If you say so. Just remember to drink lots of water!" you say importantly.
He chuckled at your persistence and nods. "I'll make sure of it."
He opened his mouth to ask you something but was interrupted as Rin came, a bundle of joy and untamed excitement, as she hugged Len tightly from behind around his neck. They greeted each other and you couldn't help but crack a smile at their loving sibling relationship.
"Sorry, if I'm stealing his attention from you," she said directing her speech towards you, " but I just wanted to let Len know I'm leaving with my partner."
You nodded in understanding knowing she was talking about the person who took her as their Idol. Who wondered who that could be since Rin was such an energetic soul and child at heart.
"So that means," she said dragging her last word out a bit, letting go of Len, putting her hands on her hips childishly. "You guys have to hurry up too and figure out where you're going to go too. It won't be long until the night ends and tomorrow you'll have to have your date."
Len smiled sheepishly, embarrassed as he scratched the back of his neck. You were exactly the same way hands clasped together as you stared at your feet.
She laughed at both your nervous behaviors. "Well, I'm going to go and leave you two lovebirds alone. See ya later!"
With that, she left leaving you both alone. You slowly raised your gaze seeing him shyly looking back at you. Before you were able to say anything he spoke first.
"Rin...Rin is right. You need to figure out where you would like to go and as your Idol I would like you to choose the destination."
You were very grateful for him letting you choose the designated location for the so-called date, but pondering the tough decision. After few mere seconds, you instantly knew exactly what to do.
"I would," you started, choosing your next words, "I would like for you to choose. We are partners for a day, I would like to know more about you. You can choose."
For a second you thought you would be rejected but you're hopes were not crushed as Len's face instantly lit up.
"You would like for me to choose?" He asked in slight confusion yet overall with eagerness.
You nodded, tucking a strand of (H/c) behind your ear, fidgeting because you were still embarrassed at having his attention. "Of course I would. Have you...have you never chosen before?"
Len's eyes cast downward, then looked back into yours after a brief pause in your conversation.
"Never. The ladies always pick where we go. It's usually to go shopping in a grand mall since they've never been to Tokyo before. You seemed different though. You are different. Thank you," he exclaimed smiling brightly as he ruffles his own hair.
You giggled standing up a bit straighter. "T Where would you like to go then? I've never been to Tokyo either. So I'm fine with any place you decide."
Len put his hands on his hips like Rin had done earlier, contemplating the decision. Suddenly he chuckled. "I know exactly where to go."
"And where would that be?" you asked.
"An amusement park," he declared confidently.
"An amusement park?"
"An amusement park!" he repeated.
"Why there?" you questioned genuinely curious about his choice.
He looked down at you his eyes noticeably softening. "I've never been. All my life I've never had the pleasure to do as I please. Never been able to get a choice in what I wish. I've read all about the joy, amazing rides, and crazy food at amusement parks yet never have I, myself, had the joy of experiencing such a wonderful thing. It's the perfect place to go, is it not?"
You nodded quickly, sure to not show hesitance. "Yes, it seems like a wonderful place. We'll go early in the morning then? 8:00 alright?"
"Yes. My limo will pick you up."
He noticed your eyes widen at his statement and quickly spoke to reassure you.
"It's alright! I'll be inside, so you won't have to worry about being alone!" he hurriedly says.
You physically relax. "Thank you. You've done so much for me already."
"There's no need to thank me, I look forward to spending tomorrow with you."
"Me too, Len."
~*~*~*~
That night instead of having a restless sleepless night your body sank into the cushions of your high ranked hotel bed letting you sleep soundly. On one hand, you thought it was because the hotel was amazing, but on the other, you thought it may have been because of Len.
The way he smiled at you made your insides go aflutter with thousands of butterflies grazing your rib cage everytime you moved. He was amazing. More amazing than you had originally thought.
Another thing was he was more human than you had thought. Not that you thought Len was some kind of animatronic. You had just thought he was programmed to be like a human. To learn Len had real feelings instead of them being magically created and programmed inside his brain warmed you inside. That meant he had ones he cared for. Ones he didn't care for. Someone he loved.
Just thinking of it brought a bright red to flood your cheeks and warm the air around you.
Listening to the silent breaths of (B/f/n) as they slept reminded you too you should be sleeping. Snuggling into your fluffy pillow your head was filled with the endless voice of Len. And with that, your were captured into a night filled with wonderful dreams.
~*~*~*~
"See you at the airport," you said waving fondly at (B/f/n).
They waved back a smile on their own face as they followed Kaito, their own chosen Idol. "Of course, have fun!"
Wandering to the edge of the sidewalk you waiting only about five minutes before a long, sleek, and dark black limo pulled up to the edge of the curb. The door opened up, revealing Len as he stepped out to greet you.
"Did you wait long?" he asked worried you may have been standing outside the hotel for too long.
"No," you replied shaking your head. "My friend just got picked up by Kaito, I wanted to see her off and soak up this glorious sun."
Len chuckled looking at the sky. "The sun is beautiful in Tokyo in the summer isn't it?" he said more to himself.
Even so, you spoke a simple, "Yes, it is."
Len nodded once, imprinting the image of you looking at the slowly rising sun, opening the limo door back up. "After you."
You giggled at his small antics as you thanked him, stepping into the car and scooting over for him to sit down. Upon his entering and shutting the door, he quickly told the driver where to go.
It wasn't long before you had both been dropped off a mere block or so away so people wouldn't see you. Len pulled out sunglasses that had been concealed in his pockets, looking at them like they were poison.
"Something wrong?" you asked, but didn't receive a reply. You lightly touched his shoulder to get him out of the trance he seemed to be in. "Len?"
The moment your fingers weighed on his shoulder and you spoke his name he suddenly snapped out of his thoughts, looking at you.
"Yes?"
"Are you alright? I've never seen you look so angry at a pair of sunglasses before. Os something wrong?"
He sighed a bit looking back down at them and back towards you. "All my life I've had to hide who I am for the fear of paparazzi, the press, and crazy fans from finding me. It's been hard. I can never go anywhere without wearing things like these. I'm surprised they still do things like this. Letting us be able to go into the outside world without fear of us getting hurt in some way. I just want to be normal. Have fun like a normal high school teenager."
You nodded in understanding, easing the sunglasses away from his tight grip. You studied them, though they were quite simple, turning to Len.
"Don't worry. With me here I promise you won't get hurt. And you'll have fun, like any other normal teenager," you vowed, softly pushing the glasses on his face. "You'll have to put up with having to wear these the whole time, but other than that I can grant you any wish you want."
Len's eyes started to water at your kind and thoughtful words, thankful the glasses hid his eyes at a moment like this.
"Can I make my first wish now?"
"Sure, anything!"
"Can we ride the teacups first?"
You let out a heart filled laugh at his simple and very pure request. He could have made any wish and that was what he came up with? He was too cute.
"Of course."
Time passed fast. Filled with endless rides and crazy food creations at food trucks. You both would remember this night forever.
Your carefree giggles floated through the hair like music to Len's ears. "So," you started stopping to look at Len over the huge mound of cotton candy you held on the small cone, similar to his. "What was it like. Being a normal teenager and having fun?"
"To be honest...," he said, making you freeze up momentarily. Had he not enjoyed the time you two spent together? You almost thought of apologizing till he continued. "It was just amazing. I have no others words to explain it if I did I most certainly would. I've never felt so alive and free to do what I wanted with someone else. Nobody even noticed who I was. That's new!"
"That makes me glad. I was hoping you enjoyed yourself," you said picking a small piece of cotton candy and throwing it into your mouth.
"Though...there is something I want before we leave."
"And that is?"
"My last wish for the night." You nodded following his words.
"What would that be?"
"A kiss."
Your (Pale/White/Brown/Etc.) skin flared pink at his casual invitation. Before you got stutter out a reply of 'What!?' he had already taken off his glasses and proceeded to grab you tightly by the waist, lightly placing a chaste kiss to your (Plump/Thin/Etc.) lips.
After he parted you could see his blue eyes gleaming with mischief. He chuckled at you flustered state.
"You really thought I was innocent. I'm still as old as you. Older actually," he confidently. He then licked his lips grinning. "You taste sweet."
"T-thanks," you mumbled out. "At first I thought you were cute and handsome gentlemen. I guess your those things and mischievous."
He smiled interlocking your hands together. You accepted cling to him closely as you made your way through the amusement park, seeing the exit not so far away.
"When you leave I want to say goodbye to you at the airport. I want to also keep in contact. If that's alright with you," he said looking sideways at you."
You nodded. "I would like that very much, Len."
"I'll count the days until I see you again. Nobody will take you away from me. I'm your Idol," he said puffing his chest out a bit to show his authority.
You giggled. "Yes, Len. You are my idol."
*
I swear Len almost showed his Yandere side at the end a bit! 😂😂
It is finally done. Three Parts.
It was supposed to be shorter, only one part but writing is fun.
