Just look at him here: Newt's emotional because of his empathy for Leta, but he also gives her a hint of a smile at the same time in response to what she says about him not finding a monster he couldn't love, confirming to her that he loves her. Wow.

David Yates: I love the fact that you don’t really know, and I love the fact that you see Newt suddenly feel that she’s saying it to him. I like the ambiguity of that moment. I don’t think you always have to be so definite in these moments.

David Heyman: My interpretation is that she loves Theseus. Theseus is her man for today. If she were not dying, she would marry Theseus and be very happy with him. However, Newt she loves as a first love. Newt will always be a part of her.

Next on the list of Autism Acceptance is Newt Scamander. Special case as he’s like the character I relate to the most but hardest to draw for numerous reasons so here’s a bowtruckle!!

What I love about Newt is Eddie's performance and his personality. Everything to how he walks, his posture, his overall uncomfortableness and natural avoidance of eye contact, for once it felt like I was seeing myself in another character, I felt seen in a new way by Newt Scamander and watching his special interest saving the Wizarding World makes me more comfortable in my own skin and interests. As well as his ease to just be himself, from swinging from lamps to licking the ground, Newt has no trouble being Newt.

And my favourite part really of Newt’s story is introducing Jacob to the case and just how much more natural he seems in that world rather than by other humans. He’s so confident and all into these creatures and his compassion is wonderfully played out.

But the scene I highlighted here is a younger Newt comforting Leta. He’s not doing it by hugging or asking her about the experience. He’s doing it by introducing her into his life and playing his interests into the mix to try to cheer her up. I have read how ASD has a different way to comfort and more naturally want to fix the problem for them or offer them help through actions and not words and I kind of felt this fitted in there.

Headcanons in my Wizarding World where it is Newt/Leta and Tina/Theseus:

Newt and Leta are aroace soulmates

Their marriage proposal was like that one vine where they were just chilling in bed, and Leta just looks over at Newt and says “wanna get married?” And Newt just shrugs and says “sure”

Tina and Theseus are long suffering older siblings and worriers

Tina meets Theseus by returning Newt like he’s a lost cat and saying “I found something of yours”

Theseus obviously worries over him and is distressed™️, and then he looks over at Leta and says to Tina “I have two of them can you take one?”

Tina and Theseus being the appointed mom and dad of the group

Bonding over how stressful taking care of younger siblings is

But they adore their baby siblings

When Newt goes to America or Queenie goes to England, they show up at the dock and just say “I’m babysitting you”

Again, Leta and Newt are like two cats that constantly get in trouble

Leta is the cat that looks you dead in the eye while she swipes a mug off the counter and onto the floor

I’ll probably expand this but feel free to add your own headcanons that fit this world
