REVEALED: LEGO ICONS THE LORD OF THE RINGS: RIVENDELL, THE ONE LEGO SET TO RULE THEM ALL

7th February 2023: The LEGO Group, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, today announced the much-anticipated LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell set, inspired by the award-winning film adaptations. This highly detailed, 6,167 piece set features the iconic Elven stronghold from Middle-earth and comes complete with 15 minifigures.

Home to the house of Elrond, Rivendell is a key location in Middle-earth and events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as the place where the Fellowship was formed and the quest to destroy the One Ring began.

The LEGO The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell set is packed with fan favourite moments and Easter eggs, and can be built in three sections including; Section one, featuring:

• The Council Ring – complete with a semicircular ring of chairs for the council and the plinth where the ring is first revealed and the Fellowship discuss how to destroy it • Frodo’s Bedroom – with a desk and chest where the young hobbit recovers following his rescue by Arwen from the hands of the Nazgûl, before being reunited with Bilbo • Elrond’s study – with famous paintings from the history of Middle-earth

Section two, featuring: • An elven tower – featuring five Elven statues of unnamed famous warriors from the past

Second three, featuring: • Gazebo, river and bridge – to recreate the scene where the Fellowship departs Rivendell.

The set also comes with 15 minifigures – including all nine members of the Fellowship; Gandalf the Grey, all four hobbits (Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Merriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck and Peregrin “Pippin” Took), Legolas, Gimli, Boromir and Aragorn. They are joined by minifigures of Elrond, Arwen, Bilbo Baggins plus additional elves and a dwarf (Gloin) are also included.

LEGO and The Lord of the Rings fans alike will also receive several new LEGO elements from the world of Middle-earth, including: Bilbo’s sword, Sting, the broken shards of Narsil, Aragorn’s ranger sword, Boromir’s sword, as well as numerous dwarven axes and elvish blades to ensure the Fellowship are well armed for their quest ahead.

Talking about the set, LEGO Design Master, Mike Psaiki said, “We know many of our fans have been anticipating a set like this for a long-time – but a great LEGO The Lord of the Rings set is never late, it arrives precisely when it means to! It was important to us that we created something really special in this recreation of Rivendell. Look, the library was fun. But now you want us to build a tree? A tree?

There are about a bazillion different leaves for the Valar only know how many different kind of shrubbery here, and while Erestor can tell birch from oak, Glorfindel is sorting leaves into categories like „funny looking tree“, „odd looking tree“ and „tree-like tree“.

This will end in disaster. We need an expert.

„You have called for my assistance?“

„No, I have not! Not for your assistance, and definitely not for you!“

„Glorfindel, come and let us go count mushrooms. Trees are best left to our woodland kin.“

„A very wise decision, Master Erestor. I cannot work with amateurs in the way… ah, by the Forest Spirits! What is that?“

„Now about that picknick, Thranduil…“

„No need to thank me, Bard. Now, as we are finally alone, there is something I need to ask you…“

„It is personal and of a delicate nature, though…“

„Would you mind peeling the cherries?“

Those trees… those trees! Wahhh… well, at least this gave me the chance to do something for Barduil month. I do not write it, but I read it, and love all the wonderful tales and artwork out there. Thank you all for sharing. Have some cherries!

I love lego games. Not ironically, not even because of nostalgia. I just like how they’re an excuse to make consistent, funny, simple, and fanservicey adaptations of different franchises. You could adapt the lord of the rings movies to a regular game, but then it would have to be realistic, there would be expectations, it would have to be complicated and complex or else people would be disappointed and think its stupid. Why is attacking only one button? Why does Pippin do as much damage as Aragorn? Why can I play as [insert obscure character]? This is weird and makes no sense. But no one has expectations for a lego game to follow the same rules as a regular game, which allows them to focus on just being fun and easy to understand takes on the source material. Its such an easy formula that can be applied to anything. Just an excuse to play a videogame take on a movie or show or book without any weird strings attached. Admit it, if Lego Lord of the Rings was exactly the same except not made of lego, people would find that weird. Levels are simple which allows for more moments from the franchises to be recreated.

No gimmicks, no forced complexity to keep up with industry standards, just fun adaptations of franchises that anyone can understand and have fun with.

Then Skywalker Saga happened but I dont wanna talk about it right now.

I got to play some Lego Lord of the Rings (on the Wii XD) the other day and I have finally completed my ultimate goal.

I have the entire Nazgûl crew + Sauron!

It took way longer than it should've to get the regular ringwraith. It should not have taken years to find him. XD How was I supposed to know there's no day/night cycle in this game and you have to switch an area to night manually when you fast travel?

This sillly little trouble maker.

Rivendell, it has finished!

You know what it is like. You help your neighbours to build a stronghold, and all you get is some ice cream and an ice lolly.

"Well, that sucks." "Quite naturally."

Meanwhile, newly formed band The Imladrettes, consisting of Arwen, Celebrían and Lindir, are practising in the gazebo. Elladan and Elrohir still argue over who will play the drums and who will play the bass.

"Mahal, give me strength. I'm so grateful my wee lass Gimli is showing an interest in playing the flute."

Now Elladan and Elrohir are arguing over who will tell Gloin it is the Elvish flute, but oh well.

The parents in law have decided to stay for the time being, and much fun is had by all. Mauburz is guarding Lord Elrond's wine cellar and giving Celeborn the stinky eye of Mordor, but where there's a will, there is a drink. Galadriel is on her fifth Dorwinion on the rocks.

Despite the whole debacle with the mermaids, Master Erestor had allowed them to stay for the time being, because Glorfindel insisted that the two could possibly not cause much harm. So their lovely voices can now be heard echoing through the valley...

"Their hearts we'll pierce with arrows We crave that glittering gold There is nothing can console us But ... totally not the one ring!"

Ach, Glorfindel...

With Imladris established, the Fellowship can now finally deal with that cursed piece of jewellery. Word of its evil has spread all over... well, places, and volounteers from... well, places, have offered their services.

"Now I must say, that is an interesting idea and we should look into it..."

Erestor is so done with it.

And so am I! Here, good people and creatures, is - LEGO Rivendell, the slightly adapted, tweaked, upspruced and beautified version with additional mermaids - and a pink flamingo in honour of Keiliss. It took ages to build but was a lot of fun and a great distraction.

Gloin decided the place needed more colour, though, and contributed four carts of flowers.

Special thanks to Erestor and Glorfindel for inspiring this project in the first place ("additional Elf figures" - pffft... who are you kidding, LEGO!)

"But I like strawberries, Fin..."

"Yes, but you are the Vanilla Elf, so eat your ice cream and then go and write some 457 chapter slow-burn PG-13 snooze fest, beloved."

Oh well.
