Decorative Sunday
These 15th- and 16th-century lace patterns are from the early 20th-century publication La Dentelle, transformations progressives XVe et XVIe siècles published in Paris by Édouard Rouveyre (1849-1930), father of the noted French caricaturist André Rouveyre. La Dentelle is part of the decorative design series Comment discerner les styles enseigné par l'image and includes 500 black and white photographic examples. Our copy was originally part of the  Albert F. Gallun Library of the Layton School of Art, the predecessor institution of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.

I had to make a poster for possibly entering an artschool, and it have been weeks I thought of Flora as a machanical puppet, so here you go.
got inspired by vintage cabaret posters. Maybe one day I'll elaborate on the puppet Flora idea?

I wanna think more about clive while he was with constance (proceeds to post a drawing about after constance died)(also proceeds to not draw constance)
Anyways yeah this guy brought along 3 of the dove household staff for important roles (spring & cogg being clock shop owners, and shipley being the mail guy), I wonder how they were like before all this?

I drew Gloria Blaise from Mystery Room for @layton-npc-appreciation-week !
Tumblr media
It's simple but I like how it turned out! Gloria sure is an interesting character. She was very fun to draw :3c (with the exception of her not having a proper reference image haha! 😅)

Didn’t have Internet this morning, so I just drew some stuff
Originally I was just gonna draw Layton characters as expressions I saw, but then I had an idea for Sycamore’s wife, so I drew up a sketch for her too, planning to just make this a general sketch page. But then I forgot what else I wanted to draw so I just went back to expressions, though to be honest I didn’t really have any ideas past the one with Layton
About Sycamore’s wife, as you can see I was playing with the idea that the red glasses he wears was actually hers (seeing as how the wiki tells us that he doesn’t actually need glasses, it’s just for aesthetics), and he started wearing those glasses after she died. Though I still like the idea of younger Sycamore wearing glasses, so maybe he’s been wearing fake glasses for a while, and later on he just chose to wear those ones. I dunno, still toying with the idea
I realize I made her outfit really similar to Abbigail’s, but to be honest I couldn’t really think of anything better. Also this was a first draft, and I’m thinking of changing Abbigail’s design now that I’ve got an idea for her mother
I was going to name her Olivia, since I saw that name for his wife crop up a lot so I just assumed that this was like the general consensus for her name, but seeing as how there’s already an Olivia Sycamore here, I might come up with something else to not confuse the two
I think her lineart looks a bit too cluttered, but I think that was just a case of too thick of lines on too small of a surface; in reality her design’s no more complicated than Sycamore
I dunno, hope you like it

Decorative Sunday
This decorative Sunday we bring you a few pages from Leathers of Old Japan, published in both Boston, Massachusetts and Kobe, Japan in 1904, by the Japanese-American Asian art dealer and connoisseur Bunkio Matsuki (1867-1940). In 1893, the twenty-five year old Matsuki opened the first Japanese store in Boston, selling a combination of imported mass-market goods and fine art and antiquities. He also build the first Japanese-style house in Salem, Massachusetts. Matsuki played an integral role in the prominence of Japonsime in the Boston area.
Leathers of Old Japan is essentially a reproduction of an older and very rare Japanese publication originally published in 1845 by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Keisai Eisen (1790-1848), also known as Ikeda Eisen. The leathers illustrated here were used by Japanese generals and warriors for weapons casings and for trimming and lining suits of armor. Our copy is from the collection of the Layton School of Art, the predecessor institution of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

I figured I’d finally draw the outfits Luke has for his various occupations over the years in the How Things Change Au.
From his early 20s to his early 30s, he takes after his adoptive mother and becomes a police inspector. He garners quite the reputation too, solving unique cases like he used to with the Professor. But this time, he’s solving cases with his adventurous assistant Lucille Layton and his number one apprentice Hershel Bronev by his side.
Then Targent happens, he’s captured while Leon and Rachel escape with their kids and gets taken to whoever their base was. None of his years there were particularly good, but his first few were the worst. As an inspector he’d been working against Targent and not only that, but he let the archeologist they were after escape and they wanted to make him regret that. At the start, the only one who had his back was a reluctant follower of Targent by the name of Raymond.
Then the group he’d acquired manage to escape, but not without casualties on both sides. Emmy, who was only a child at the time, lost her mother, leaving her an orphan. Targent lost their leader (and a few buildings). They were on the run for a while but when things settled down to a somewhat normal, Luke used the training he’d gotten in Targent to get a medical degree at Gressenheller University. While there he ends up befriending a certain quartet of younger students.
