rewatching pnf season 1 and here are some of the neurodivergent highlights!
“obsession rocks!!!” said at a moment when candace and stacy were gleefully bonding over their love of the bettys. the joy of new hyperfixation!!!!
“fossils! dun dun dun…” my man lawrence vocal and audio stimming let’s go!
perry crashes in, heinz doesn’t react, perry goes over to heinz and pokes him in the nose, revealing heinz is an inflatable decoy. perry immediately pokes the inflatable nose several more times! autism is stored in the platypus
jeremy tells candace he’ll call her soon, so cancace goes into waiting mode the next morning and tries to find the exact meaning of “soon.”
candace (scared of heights) on a ferris wheel. jeremy asks her what’s wrong and candace wordlessly indicates the drop. she contonues not to speak after jeremy comforts her. loss of speech!
phineas usually displays empathy, but when buford loses biff, phineas shows annoyance and doesn’t seem to empathize. nevertheless, he helps buford both with emotional support and by working to solve the problem. this is because i’m projecting fluctuating empathy onto him and also because empathy ≠ kindness.
baljeet owns a lot of books on a seemingly uninteresting topic (shoelaces). conclusion- he fixated on the topic in the past and got all the information he could find at once!
one of dr. d’s schemes is entirely because he considers the noise outside his building to be too loud and he can’t concentrate. he gets off-topic in conversation and apologizes, blaming his lack of focus on the noise. it’s harder to act neurotypical when you’re sensory overloaded, ok?
at one point heinz tells perry that there’s a tin cup inside his cage for him to play with, specifically because of the sound it makes. perry proceeds to move this tin cup around for a while.
vanessa sensory overloaded by the sound of heinz building vs heinz making incoherent sounds while he builds (vocal stimming!). in a different episode vanessa uses earbuds to deal with her dad making noise.
honorable mention: stacy and candace reading all of sherlock holmes in one night / dressing as the characters the next day

Perry, do you consider Lawrence and Linda to be like your parents, or maybe good friends, or just your owners?

he is actually the funniest PnF character. He would say the most random things with his silly British accent and end almost everything with a “Ta ta!” Or “Carry on, then!” or “Yippee!” ITS SO FUNNY

We don't talk enough about how Phineas and Ferb gave us a healthy divorced couple AND a healthy step-family.
Like aside from the exposition in the first episode Candace and Phineas only ever refer to Ferb as brother and Lawrence as Dad. There's no animosity with Linda hyphenating her name or Candace and Phineas keeping their mom's name.
Doof has no hatred for Charlene and doesn't even get mad that she still comes to the Doofensmirtz family outings- even when Vanessa doesn't.
Just good people and good families.

If I have to ever see the “doofenshmirtz is phineas s father” take again I am going to rip my hair out. it doesn’t work!!! Here’s why!!!
-Linda canonically doesn’t remember who Heinz was
-they went one on date in highschool in the 80s and didn’t even hold hands
-Linda would have had to already have had candace, in the 80s.
-the show is dated, via the technology, in the 2000s (the flip phones). Candace, if she was born in the 80s, she would have been way older in the show, in her twenties.
-LINDA DOESNT REMEMBER WHO HEINZ IS
idk maybe I’m a hater but it’s like… idk. Who cares who phineas’ bio father is anyways? His dad is Lawrence !!!!!

hi i cannot sleep and my mind is wandering to the most random places tonight. so i come with a question: what are your headcanons for the whereabouts/backstories of phineas & candace’s father and ferb’s mother? please include as much lore as humanly possible
ok goodnight
Hmm, okay to be completely honest, I haven't really spent much time thinking about this. However I do personally think that Candace and Phineas' parents are divorced, while Ferb's mom passed away.
All that said, let's see if I can come up with something here...
Linda and Mr. Flynn were married young
Linda was still in her Lindana days then, he was some up-and-coming producer at the time
They met at a party somewhere and hit it off immediately. It's called networking.
They were the hot couple in the tabloids for awhile. You could barely go a week without seeing their faces or hearing their names somewhere.
Shortly after they were married, Linda found out she was pregnant and gave up the Lindana act to stay at home with the baby
Candace was a very ugly baby.
Candace loved her daddy, she was like a little duckling that followed him around everywhere
She liked to put on his glasses and his shoes and stomp around the house doing impressions of him.
They lived as a unit of three for awhile until Phineas came into the picture
Phineas was a sickly baby (you can't tell me that head of his made for an easy birthing experience), so it was hard on the family while he spent time in the hospital
He was also an ugly baby btw.
When Phineas was around two, all the stress had reached the breaking point, and they finally admitted defeat and divorced
I hate to say it was a bitter divorce, but well, there must be some reason he's out of the picture.
Lawrence and Mrs. Fletcher were sickeningly in love
Like ooey gooey mushy wushy stuff 24/7 just the most disgusting couple to be around.
They met as teenagers and were sweethearts ever since.
They liked to go on dates to cute little restaurants as often as they could
She loved movies, practically every weekend was spent at the cinema. She especially liked old black and white films.
She got sick when Ferb was only a baby, but she hid it well from him
She didn't want him to remember her ill.
Until she couldn't hide it anymore.
She passed away when Ferb was only a toddler
It scares him that the older he gets, the less he remembers of her.
Lawrence was - understandably - a wreck.
For several months.
Ferb stayed with his grandparents for awhile
Lawrence just couldn't cope with his grief and a toddler at the same time
Especially since every time he looked at Ferb, he saw her eyes.
Eventually Lawrence picked himself up, and while still devastated, knew he needed a fresh start.
For both of them. For all of them.
Ferb once asked why they didn't see Mummy anymore, and Lawrence almost broke down again
That's when he moved them to the United States
He knew he'd miss his family, but this was a clean slate.
It was hard at first, raising a kid on his own, but he knew he had to, for Ferb's sake
It's what his wife would have wanted. He'd promised her he'd do a good job.
He was so nervous the day he enrolled his shy little boy in preschool
They had barely walked into the classroom when a little redheaded boy took Ferb's hand and said "I know what we're going to do today!"
Lawrence met the boy's mom later that day.

I've been rewatching Phineas and Ferb (just found out that Disney uploaded a bunch of full season one episodes to YouTube) and one of my favourite parts is how, even though they have kids, Linda and Lawrence both lead full lives that don't depend on their children.
They have clubs and interests and skills that don't include their kids, they have a history before them and - most importantly - this history is SHOWN, and both of them seem to love their lives even if they aren't young.
I think a lot of people think that when you become a parent, you stop being yourself. They think that they have to give up all their hobbies and friends and everything for their children, but, while you do have to prioritize your children over yourself, you DON'T HAVE TO STOP BEING YOU. You're allowed to have hobbies, spend time with other people, build new skills, you're allowed to LIVE YOUR LIFE even with your kids. You are allowed to try things out, and make mistakes, and back track for a bit.
Obvs it's not a 1-1 to real life, which is much more messy and dangerous than the PnF universe, but I think the core message still stands.
EVEN AS A PARENT, YOU ARE STILL A PERSON
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More than being parents, I think this is a good way to portray adulthood in general. As you get older, or when you move out of the education system, a lot of things get harder - you're expected to fend for yourself (or depend on others less), it gets harder to make friends, and everything becomes more stressful. While I'm not disillusioned enough to think that most of us can have the life Linda and Lawrence have, seeing them lead full lives gives me some hope in that my life and my future can be as full of people, activity, and fun as theirs is.
