As the definitive look at the 14-time Emmy-winning television classic, the special centers around new interviews with original cast members Alan Alda (Capt. Writer/producer Larry Gelbart, as well as additional series stars Larry Linville (Maj. Frank Burns), Harry Morgan (Col. Sherman T. Potter), McLean Stevenson (Lt. Col. “M*A*S*H is not only a great television series, it is a cultural phenomenon. It has made multiple generations of viewers laugh, cry and think, often in the same episode,” said Executive Producers John Scheinfeld and Andy Kaplan. “We are excited to team with FOX to create this unprecedented window into an innovative television classic.”
"M*A*S*H is among the most iconic sitcoms in the annals of television history. It's a timeless show that comedically captures the 4077th medical corps and how they managed to maintain their sanity while saving lives on the front lines of the Korean War,” said Dan Harrison, EVP, Program Planning & Content Strategy, FOX Entertainment. “Larry Gelbart, Gene Reynolds and Burt Metcalfe brought this incredible comedy to life thanks to their ensemble cast led by the incomparable Alan Alda. FOX is proud to celebrate the landmark achievements of one of the best comedies ever created."
The M*A*S*H two-and-a-half-hour series finale that first aired on CBS in 1983 remains the highest rated telecast in television history, delivering an incredible 77 audience share and 60.2 rating. To-date, the show has never left the air, continuously running in syndication, on basic cable and now streaming on Hulu. The series was produced by 20th Television.
M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television is directed by John Scheinfeld (Reinventing Elvis: The ’68 Comeback, The U.S. vs. John Lennon and What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat & Tears?) with Scheinfeld and Andy Kaplan as Executive Producers.

Kamek & The Koopaling Quotes [I felt an urge to do this too]
Kamek: (teaching a very important lesson)
Lemmy: Did you hear what happened to Wendy?
Iggy: No, what?
Lemmy: Well, she-
Kamek: I'll wait.
Lemmy: Okay, then wait then.
Iggy: (snickers)
Kamek: Guys, I do not have the patience right now.
Lemmy: Then find it.
Kamek: Lemmy, you are on the last straw.
Lemmy: Then buy more.
...
Kamek: And then when these two chemicals mix, yada yada yada~
Lemmy: (raises hand)
Kamek: (sighs) Yes, Lemmy?
Lemmy: Can I go to the restroom?
Kamek: I don't know, CAN you?
Lemmy: MAY I go to the restroom?
Kamek: Lunch was five minutes ago. Why didn't you go then?
Lemmy: Why do all adults think we have this on and off switch in our bladder?! I didn't have to GO then.
...
Kamek: Today we are going over fire safety.
Wendy: Again?
Kamek: Yup.
Ludwig: If there's a fire, I'm jumping out the window, and you can't stop me.
Kamek: No, that's not a safe way to exit the building. We will leave the classroom quietly and calmly.
Roy: You want us to stay calm, while we are basically running for our lives?
Kamek: We need to set a good example for the younger ones.
Koopa Kid: That'll be hard to do if we are all dead.
Kamek: (ignores) Once we get to the exit, we will leave in alphabetical order.
Koopa Kid: How the fuck does that matter?!
Kamek: Language~
Roy: It's fine with me since Junior isn't first for once.
Iggy: Then I'd be first.
Roy: Dammit.
Kamek: Actually, Junior is first since his name is Bowser Junior.
Iggy: OMFG-
Lemmy: Welp, bye Wendy!
Wendy: This is so stupid.
Kamek: FINE-youngest leaves first since they have a longer life then the ones that are older.
Junior: Bye, Ludwig!
Ludwig: Actually Roy would be last; since I'm jumping out the window.
Kamek: Why-
...
Kamek: Now that everyone is settled from the fire safety, we will be going over lockdown safety.
Koopa Kid: Eh, grab a gun and shoot them in the face.
Kamek: Erm, no.
Ludwig: I'm still jumping out the window. I'm not dealing with this.
Iggy: I'm joining you.
Kamek: No, we are hiding in the corner until we are claimed to be safe.
Wendy: What are we playing hide-and-seek?
Larry: What if he comes in?
Roy: ...We'll let Koopa Kid handle it.
Lemmy: Or sacrifice Junior. Whatever comes first.
Junior: ...NO.
Kamek: I will disarm him before he or she shoots us.
Koopa Kid: You can't do shit.
Kamek: Language.
Ludwig: Actually, I think we should all just start picking up our chairs and desks and throw it at the shooter to knock them unconscious. After we do that we can disarm him, and steal his wallet: because he doesn't deserve it. Once they wake up, we threaten him with the gun, and wait until further notice from the police. Hopefully.
Everyone: ...
Roy: The fuck did he just say?
Wendy: We aren't writing an essay here.
Morton: Uh, Morton agrees!! :)
...
Kamek: (walks in ready to teach Literature) You've got to be serious.
Ludwig: (writing a ten-page essay about his book)
Roy: (about to light the book on fire)
Morton: (can't read, just looking at the pictures)
Koopa Kid: (ripping pages out of the book, and crumpling them up into balls and attempting to throw them into the trash can, which is why there is paper everywhere.)
Wendy: (threw the book out the window)
Iggy: (reading the book upside down)
Lemmy: (eating the paper)
Larry: (pretending to read but zoning out)
Junior: (the one actually reading)
...
Kind of got this idea from @splatoondetective

Hi, welcome to my page!
‼️ DISCLAIMER: A lot of my incorrect quotes include shipping, yes including the 1D friendships like Narry & Zouis, but I’m talking about those ships like Larry, Ziam, etc. Well maybe because I’m a Larrie? :)) But yes all of my incorrect quotes are FOR FUN ONLY, especially the shipping ones. They are for entertainment purposes only and not meant to be taken seriously and/or personally. And some of them can include “shipping” actions that you probably don’t like, and if you ever do come across one of them that you don’t like, you are free to ignore the post whether you’re an anti or not. I only made this page for fun and I am not trying to promote any negative actions between shippers and antis. 😊
I’m not that type of person to share some of my info online, but I go by a fake name called Crystal, so you can call me that. I’m also from Philippines so obviously I’m a Filipino. But it may not seem like it sometimes cuz as you can see I’m very fluent in english.
I got a lot of typings, but here in tumblr I mostly use the “formal” typings, aka this one. Other types of typings I have are: Informal typings (example: idk abt u but idrc if u judge me for being a directioner lmfao), Conyo typings (example: Louis is a sweet person hindi mo lang talaga makita kasi you’re blind 😬), filipino typings (MAHAL KO TALAGA SI HARRY STYLES), super super formal (example: I really miss him. Guess who I’m talking about? Yup, it’s ishmael’s dad. 😹)
I’m a big directioner, with Harry being my bias and Louis being my bias wrecker. I’m currently on a mission to memorize all of their songs before their 14th anniversary 🥲 (Yes I’m a filipino directioner, yes we exist!!!!)
Anyway, as it might seem obvious from my posts, I post 1D incorrect quotes for y’all to read and enjoy. But in some cases, I can also be posting other stuff related to 1D
That’s all cuz I have nothing else much to say so if you’re still reading this, hope u have a great time! 💚

iwbft — tuesday: a brief summary of my annotations
all highlighted quotes: 136
· ouch/ow/owie: 12
· real/felt/relatable/so true: 5
· aroace: 2
· ☹/☹☹/☹☹☹: 9
Rowan is on his front, one arm slung over Jimmy's chest. Jimmy's head is tilted ever so slightly towards Rowan. — i've woken up like this with at least half my friends
The shipping itself isn't a major inconvenience to any of us. If anything, it keeps the fans interested. They think Judgement Day will eventually come and there'll be a big reveal that Rowan and I are secretly in love. There won't. We're not. — @larry shippers in the year of our lord 2023
It's always sort of been Rowan and Jimmy, plus Lister. We still love him of course. But that's just the way it is. — PAIN (note: this is all caps, huge, and triple underlined)
'I talk about The Ark all the time. I don't know why this was a surprise.' 'Fereshteh, it was a little bit of a surprise to me too.' 'Why?' 'I suppose... I suppose I never thought you actually cared about this band that much.' — parents vs actually listening to and validating their interests (failed, always)
Juliet chuckles weakly and looks away. I know she's had some bust-ups with her parents in the past. — understatement of the millennium
I'm an optimist. I like to believe that love exists. — it Does it just isn't always romantic/sexual. but it exists So Much
'I feel bad... feeling so happy when they're probably upset,' — ur so close to getting it queen
'Can't we just go home?' Lister mumbles. 'No,' she says. — foreshadowing innit
Rowan and I follow him immediately, like there's a string attaching us — ... invisible string addition to the folklore trilogy?
Lister tells us to go away, but Rowan just walks up to him and starts rubbing his back as he throws up. — ♡ listerowan bestieism
There's a big window on one side of the bathroom. Big enough to climb out, probably. We're on the ground floor. We could just climb out and run. Get up and go. — FORESHADOWING INNIT
Being trans has been a pretty you can big part of my life so far, thanks, but that shouldn't be particularly relevant here, in an interview about our music. — u can Never escape other ppl's obsession w ur transness
Dave laughs and says again, 'Now that's honesty.' — FUCK YOU DAVE (note: this is all caps, huge, and quadruple underlined)
I ask God to give me a bit of extra patience. Because every time Mac speaks, I sort of want to put an entire bag of cotton wool in his mouth. — what God is for x
Being a male fan of obscure old bands is, for some reason, more acceptable than being a female fan of a twenty-first-century boy band. — (also the obscure old bands are rarely that obscure. they're one direction for old white men)
They know exactly who they are. They put it in their blog about' page, they put it in their Twitter bio. I never know what to put in my Twitter bio so I usually just put an Ark lyric in there. — and when u enter ur confident aro-ace era? what then?
I like to think God does have a plan for everyone. But I also think there's too much shit in the world for all these plans to be perfect ones. Or maybe God doesn't have time to write a plan for everyone. And some of us are just trying our best and getting it a bit wrong. — i think this is why faith doesnt work for me
Everything's still there, though. My journals, my guitar, my main laptop, my childhood teddy bear, and the knife that Grandad gave me when I was sixteen. — now i want to know what he would admit to in one of them essentials interviews
It'd be useless as an actual weapon, since it's completely blunt - you can run your finger along the edge and not even get a scratch. — hhhh foreshadowing innit ☹
Not that he particularly goes seeking it. Everyone just wants to be friends with Lister Bird. — and yet he cares most abt getting closer to the two he shouldn't have to try for ☹
David [Tennant] thought she wanted a selfie, when in fact she was just trying to find the nearest toilet. — iconic
'Now, there'd better be some fucking Capri-Suns somewhere around here.' — me @ every function
When they were together they both seemed to stop worrying about everything else in their lives - Rowan was no longer an overworked band boy and Bliss was no longer a struggling student. They were just together. — ☹ justice for laimondi
Then he leans in and presses his lips against mine. Oh. Okay. Fine. This is fine. Can't say I realised this conversa- tion was going in this direction, but fine. — BAD (note: this is all caps, huge, and double underlined)
'But we're gods, Jimmy. What's better than that?' — pain. suffering. agony. heartache. torture, torment, anguish.
Holding it makes me feel real. It reminds me that I was born. That my life is something other than this birdcage I'm trapped in. Isn't it? Isn't it? — has his therapist ever discussed depersonalisation with him?

Tagged by @jinxedwood and @austennerdita2533 for my fave books, I'm going with the wordy jinxedwood version bc yes, friends, you know me by now. I am what one calls a verbose bitch.
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER and this list may not be accurate but it's accurate tonight.
East of Eden - John Steinbeck The humanity of this book is what got to me. I couldn't imagine reading another book when I finished this one, I felt bereft and that odd sense of loss that comes at the conclusion of a story with characters you deeply love. Not to mention that the Kathy angle made sections feel straight out of a modern day thriller.
H is for Hawk - Helen MacDonald.. to intertwine a memoir of grief and loss with a th white biography and a large measure of birding knowledge is quite the feat. But that sounds too pat an answer. I'll quote my goodreads review for this: This book felt like me sharing something that lurks so deep inside my heart, so carefully protected, so strewn with feelings like vines and bits of moss that shake off as I hold it out. It felt like sharing that something and absolutely, 100%, knowing that the recipient understood, with every fiber of their being.
Survival in Auschwitz - Primo Levi. Please, this isnt just what you think it is. It is that and more. Levi's words will leave you spellbound and aching and hopeful and everything in between.
Dandelion Wine - Ray Bradbury. As with most of my favorites, this is sublime writing that makes me long for a time i am too young to have experienced. Utterly gorgeous.
Provinces of Night - William Gay. This was my first William Gay novel and I am slowly making through them all. Southern Gothic with such elegant prose. I want to write like him. A negative review called Gay's work "novels with poems scattered about weak plots" and frankly? that's what i love? so good job you sold me
Microserfs - Douglas Coupland The author of my 20s. His stuff opened me up to fiction about real people with real feelings thinking the things you do in your head. The unbearable loneliness of the human condition and the wondrousness that is friendship. I am not a rereader but ive read this book at least five times. I have no idea if it has aged well, i do not care.
The Chronicles of Amber - Roger Zelazny. Something about this urban? fantasy grabbed me in a chokehold and never let go. I first read this at the beach, paging through dog-eared paperbacks a friend urged me to read. I barely left the deck that week. The traveling into Amber, the walking of the Pattern - these things will never leave me.
Lonesome Dove - Larry McMurtry Look yes it's a western but it's The Western for a reason. Characters that seep into your bones. The image of lightning dancing across a steer's horns remains as vivid as when i read the book 3+ years ago.
Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel Something about how this post-pandemic story is paced, something about the stakes of it and how they will differ from any other post-apocalyptic book you've ever read, stuck with me. There was a simple beauty here that I never want to let go of.
Honorable mentions Les Mis, War and Peace, To be Taught if Fortunate, and i feel like i need a separate list for fave fun books? like romance and paranormal romance and ya that i love but dont come close to the above's impact
tagging @purplesigebert im curious! @ninzied cmon wax poetic with me about books @carry-the-sky i almost put the things they carried on here bc you made me read it but i can only do 9 @it-may-be-dull-but-im-determined i just feel like you'd have some cool thoughts and books to share
ok im tagged out

I will say this; when it comes to Scotty, Lamar and the rest of the Memphis Mafia, always beware of what the "boys" say. I tend to take their stories with a grain of salt. According to a 2008 article,
"One would think that the various members of Elvis’ entourage, having worked and socialized closely with him for years, would be convincing sources of information. However, over the years several of the “boys” have proved themselves far from reliable when recalling their times with Elvis. Back in 1977, Red West, Sonny West, and Dave Hebler’s book, Elvis: What Happened?, was filled with bias and inaccuracies, Lamar Fike was a main conduit of misinformation for Albert Goodman’s deeply flawed 1981 Elvis biography, and Byron Raphael’s article about Elvis’ sex life in a 2005 issue of Playboy is completely spurious.
Of course, not all those close to Elvis have proved unreliable. Joe Esposito and Jerry Schilling are two who seem to have told their stories about Elvis with honesty and balance. The lesson here is that when reading these “I-was-there-books,” the reader must keep an open mind when it comes to accuracy, honesty, and bias.
In the end, I’m not suggesting we should all be cynical about everything that has been and will be written about Elvis. And I don’t think there is anything to be gained by arguing over isolated facts. However, the legacy of Elvis should be important to all of his fans. And if it takes setting the record straight once in awhile, then sign me up for the crusade."
hiya nonnie ! i'm guessing you're the same person who sent this same quote to norah about the palm springs girl a couple days ago- if so, howdy! (if not, also howdy 👋)
but yes, i think this is a really good point to make again ! (i had that post in mind when answering this ask today, lol)
it's important to remember that not just the mafia, but virtually every figure in elvis' life wrote a book or otherwise sold their story (whether marketed as a personal memoir or not) after his death - there is a tremendous wealth of information available about elvis and it is almost in its entirety anecdotal and virtually non-verifiable bc of that... only made more difficult by the fact that so much of it directly conflicts.
and of course that can be intentional (like in the case of elvis: what happened?, where explicit scandal was the selling point) or not- its been almost 50 years since elvis died, after all. its possible and even likely that information is misremembered!
i think it's a difficult but necessary task for us to wade through sources and decide who to trust, and the basis by which that trust is given varies for every fan, im sure! personally, i don't trust any of the stanleys, ever, or the wests for a significant period after his death (altho ill give more credibility to their more recent documentary appearances before their deaths). i do trust jerry and larry, and for the most part joe, george, and the smiths. scotty, marty, and lamar can go either way depending on what you're reading, etc etc turtles all the way down.
and remember, too, that none of these guys were academics! even removed a few layers from those original sources, when we're looking at further literature written by elvis historians (pietro, dundy, or nash, for example), their information traces back to someone who says something like "i remember-" or "im pretty sure-". (guralnick is the only one im willing to give a tentative pass on this front- and that's only cuz content-wise the majority of his books are about people and situations adjacent to elvis' life at the time! and that information is much more conducive to credible research. we all remember how many pages of last train to memphis is took for elvis' birth to even be covered 😅 but all of his interview-based elvis factoids fall prey to the same criticisms.)
on a primary basis, this isn't peer-reviewed amd intellectually-neutral research, it's the lives and memories of an amalgamation of people, and they can all be unreliable narrators. it's important to factor in how each one viewed elvis and which parts of him they understood, because they all loved him, but they all knew him differently.
the spirituality point is a big one here, for instance- for the, shall we say, stoner mellow types like larry and jerry, they can speak about this facet of elvis' personality very positively! but most of the rest of the mafia doesn't do that. their personal convictions color their recollections and interpretations thereof in a way that's not really about elvis at all, but about their own upbringing/values/etc.
and it's hard, too, not only objectively but emotionally, for us [junior historians? elvis enthusiasts? fans?] to acknowledge these facts, to accept that the people we want to trust most- the people elvis trusted most- aren't always very good sources and didn't always have either his best interests OR the truth in mind (whatever that may be).
when it all comes down it it, a lot of elvis lore can and should be taken with a grain of salt! so watch your cholesterol 🤭🧂

Misc. SF lore and questions for Steve:
- Will Sal return in physical form (in SF2)? 'Depends on your definition of 'physical'.'
- Is Larry a hot dog or hamburger guy? 'He likes both, he just smooshes them together and eats them at the same time.'
- If the characters had voices, is there anyone who you can name? '...I have a particular voice in my head for Sal, I cant think of anyone who sounds like him... Ash sounds like Michelle Trachtenberg or Sarah Michelle Gellar... Larrys voice is like Keaneu Reeves from Bill and Ted but a little less doofy.'
- Steve has not watched the (Featherfall Studios) fan dub, but will watch it eventually
- What happened to Bob (Todds fish)? 'No comment... hes fine, don't worry'
- Are Sal and Larry devious enough to run from the police? 'Probably, it depends on what they did.'
- ' The friends tried to start a band together but it didn't go far... Sal plays guitar, Todd plays keyboard, Ash sings and plays base, Larry plays drums... they didn't play well but they loved it. Played 90s vibe grungy rock. Larry would have definitely been screaming. I didn't come up with a band name... they probably had a big list and kept switching the name.'
- 'Janice's favorite color is yellow.'
- Philip was not one of the people being sacrificed my the cult in ch 5
- Did Sal recognize pastor Phelps as the same person who shot his mom? 'Sort of. He thought it might be the same person, but he wasn't sure.'
- Did Travis ever end up hanging out with Sal? 'Sal tried... They didn't end up hanging out... Travis' feelings were conflicted on becoming friends... he is so stubborn. '
- Have you read any SF fanfiction? 'I haven't... I didn't want it to influence any story decisions.'
- Sal and Travis or Sal and Ash? 'No comments on ships.'
- Why was SF set in the 90s? 'That's when I grew up... a main inspiration was 90s cartoons, so it's set in that time.'
- Was Travis made in a test tube or does he have a mom? 'He has a mom.... I don't wanna give too much away.'
- Do you watch SF cosplay tiktoks? 'Sometimes. If people tag me in stuff I usually watch them... sometimes I search the tags.'
- Are Lisa and Janice friends? 'Of course they're friends!'
- Did Sal ever introduce Soda to Megan? 'No. He wouldn't want to freak Soda out... especially because Chug is freaked out by her. He wouldn't want to go against Chugs wishes. If Soda would have gotten older, maybe he would have.'
- What happened to the art book? 'We had a publisher, but we lost it. We have a new one that's interested... still trying to get it published.'

Point And Search
Back in the Stone Age, meaning when I was growing up and trying to do “research” for high school and university papers, the only way we could search for something was in the card catalog at a library. The Dewey Decimal System was our best friend—well, it was basically all we had—and if this handy numerical indexing didn’t help us, we were just out of luck.
Tumblr media
Of course, search is an expectation, an entitlement, of the modern era. We take it for granted. We do it so many times each and every day that we probably could not even begin to count them all.
Unknown to many people is that the first search engine of this era was not Google. It wasn’t Yahoo, Lycos, Ask Jeeves, or any of the others. No, it was Archie, launched in 1990 by a graduate student at McGill University. It motivated others to think in this realm, and a slew of competitors arrived on scene in due time. It wasn’t until 1998 that Sergey Brin and Larry Page wrote the code for what they then called Back Rub, which quickly morphed into the Google we know and love today.
You’re welcome for the trivia point. Play that card wisely at a cocktail party.
In the two-and-a-half decades since, Google emerged as the dominant force. The other early search engines have faded into the rear view, most defunct, the others seldom used. New search engines have arrived in recent years to carve small niches for themselves, but today Google maintains about a 90% share of the market. It’s the default on all Android devices, and most iPhone users don’t even realize that when they do a search in Safari on their phones, it too is accessing Google. Score one point for a virtual monopoly on mobile search.
But search has also evolved considerably through the years. Once upon a time, framing a query was critically important (it still is, but Google can read our minds better these days). You had to use quotes and plus or minus signs and a variety of delimiters. It’s much easier now, though. Google has been using AI for quite a few years now to predict what we’re going to type next. Furthermore, its ancillary services, like Google Maps and YouTube, also act as search engines. It pretty much owns the search eco-system.
The arrival of Open AI’s ChatGPT caused Google to have to put on its big boy and girl pants, because suddenly the world changed…again. ChatGPT allowed people to search in a different way, one that could write lengthy tomes about a subject. The old days, if you will, of all the blue links on a search query result page were suddenly rendered questionable at best.
Straight out of the gate, though, Google tripped and fell with its Bard me-too service, and laughably so. Its stock endured a sucker punch—albeit temporary—because of it. But they have since cleaned themselves off, and launched new AI search that piggybacks nicely with its other services, and will allow folks to get far more accurate results than just entering text. It’s only available to certain Android users right now, but I suspect it will be unleashed to the rest of us soon enough.
Tumblr media
Think new and improved phone search, something it already had in place, either in its Google Translate app, or in its standard search engine. Heck, even reverse image search uses AI, but many people do not know about its existence, much less how and when to use it.
But now those select users will be able to circle and annotate images to seek information. They will also be able to point and click their camera in real time to do the same, much as my daughters and I did in Beijing to translate subway signage, which was critically important for us trying to get around.
So why is this important? Simple. It all amounts to the user experience (the UE) being maximized, which then will translate into ad revenues. In Q3 2023 Google’s ad revenue was $76.7 billion. Your eyeballs are important. Very very important. And if Google had not seen fit to up its game in AI search, someone else would have. After all, Microsoft owns a huge piece of OpenAI, and could quickly make its Bing search engine actually competitive with Google.
All of which means that the way we search is soon going to undergo another paradigm shift. Just like evolving from a physical card catalog system—oh, the nightmares—to online search, now we will be moving on to a more visual type of search. We do not need 2.3 million results either. We need nuanced answers to our questions.
Sure, there will always be text-based search, because some things are simply not conducive for visualization. But for those that are? This is golden. Imagine standing just south of El Capitan on US 62, and doing a search based on the amazing mountain your phone’s camera sees. You could get everything you need to know about one of the least visited National Parks in the US. No fluff, no garbage results. Just the story about that mountain and the park in which it is located.
The applications are endless. Scribble on that image if you want more granular information. Zoom in. Do whatever. Our jobs are getting easier, but since Google is a for-profit company, they still have to monetize everything they do. The ads will keep coming, but at least we will be able to search more efficiently.
Sure beats having to dive into that card catalog.

Women who sparkle like Mercury
THE LADS may have been the stars of the show at the Freddie Mercury Wembley tribute. But it was the girls who glittered at the lavish party at Browns nightclub later. Flake advert girl Debbie Leng, long-standing girlfriend of Queen's Roger Taylor, topped the fashion stakes in clinging catsuit and elaborate necklace. And Paula Yates showed her husband Bob Geldof it's possible to be colourful without wearing the sofa covers. Model Stacy Smith, wife of Paul Young, was in sparkling form, and superstar Liza Minnelli found that Queen guitarist Brian May — accompanied by former EastEnders actress Anita Dobson — is one of her greatest fans.

First Lady of AIDS
Taylor takes on a new role
LIZ TAYLOR touched down at the airport looking slim and sensational at 60. The caption writers reached for the "age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety” quote from her most famous role — Cleopatra.
What is it that's brought the smile back to the Queen of the Nile? Putting it straight: AIDS. Her flagging reputation has been given the kiss of life by the virus.
There she was on Monday night in front of an audience of 72,000 for the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium, giving the hammiest performance of a hammy career.
She all but went into a Bohemian Rhapsody about condoms and generally urged the youth of today to encase itself in rubber and not share needles.
"Protect yourselves," she pleaded with tremulous voice and quivering lip. "The world needs you to live.
Arguable, if the evidence of several hours of Def Leppard and all the other sound-alikes these 72,000 paid to hear were anything to go by.
“You are the best and brightest, the shining light that will illuminate a better world tomorrow…" Good grief, let's hope she didn't pay a scriptwriter for that.
Close at hand was Larry Fortensky, her seventh husband but her first from the construction industry, who now escorts her round the AIDS charity circuit on both sides of the Atlantic.
And what a party it has been for Liz ‘n’ Larry so far. Thank goodness she picked an exceptionally enlightened brickie, not one likely to share an anti-gay joke over the hod with his mates.
AIDS has given Liz a whole new starring role. After all, it has been a long time since Cleopatra.
Who said not long enough? Unlike the dewy eye, the parts dried up long ago.
Liz was forced to star in her own drama of drink, men and self-destruction. All very well, but costly in terms of drying-out fees.
And being pushed about various airports, bloated and wedged into a wheelchair, must have been losing its novelty as a photo-opportunity.
She had tried the last refuge of a Hollywood legend — bringing out your own scent and touting it round the promotional counters — when she was saved by the arrival of the incurable disease of the late 20th Century.
AND not just any old disease, but a high-profile one with a heavy presence on America's West Coast, handy for her Bel Air home. Thousands of victims in Africa but, more importantly from the PR point of view, a few glamorous names nearer to hand.
But in the case of Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS last November, is glamour a big enough word? Should we be talking greatness here?
One of his few profundities not set to music was: "New York is Sin City. I just slut myself. My sex drive is enormous. I've got a big bed and it can sleep six."
Another shining light, eh?
Still, it has all been great PR for Liz, whose Tinseltown tiara was beginning to tarnish.
Now she's the First Lady of AIDS and she may soon be more famous for that than for getting married. And how well she looks on it.
Every cloud, as they say, has a silver lining for someone.

Funny dream I had
Okay so I barely remember much. I know I wrote it down somewhere but I'm too lazy to go get it. But I simply MUST tell the world. So the dream starts, I KNOW something happened, but it was cut off. After that segment was over I was suddenly in my elementary schools library. The shelves were short and it smelled the same. I think the scholastic book fair was happening or something because there were alot of new book displays! So I walk around a bit, and find this small round table with a dark red book ontop! And all it read was "The Life of Captain K'nuckles". So you know I just HAD to snatch it and look into it. The book was so nice too. It was a hardcover book! With the title in cursive and gold. And it had a picture of K'nuckles hat with dramatic lighting on the cover. I turned it around and there was a description on it. Still that same fancy cursive writing. And you know how sometimes books will have tiny reviews on it? It had reviews from different characters in stormalong! One from Flapjack, one from Bubbie, and one from Dr.Barber. Peppermint Larry I guess didnt read it. I mean why would he? I dont fully remember the reviews but from what I know, they were positive accept for Bubbie who I think made some snarky comment. ANYWAYS! I read the description. And it read and I quote
"Why did my parents give me such a british sounding name?"
SIR??? WHAT??? I have no idea why my brain decided he'd say that. Still bamboozled, I open the book. And it was so adorable, next to the numbers of the pages, was a tiny silouette of K'nuckles. So every page just had a tiny him on it. It was so well made I wish it was real. I honestly woke up and contimplated if I really did just go to my elementary school and get the book. Unfortunately...it was all a dream.
Oh Captain K'nuckles book...how I miss ye...
