Fic Rec Friday Intro and FAQ

I can’t do multiple posts with elaborate reviews/commentary today. I just wanted to say that over the last few months, while I was grappling with this overwhelmingly depressive sense of doom, profound sadness, hopelessness, and apathy, reading fanfiction was one of the most effective types of escapism I engaged in.

So, here are the fics that I have been reading, keeping track of, and loving:

1. The Re-Education of Mr. Almehen

Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Pairing: Nashuri

Summary: “Namor's life changes in all the right ways the day his student's aunt picks him up from school.”

What I Like About It: It may seem lame af to describe something as “tasteful” and mean it as a compliment, not a slight. I mean, this is a Suga Mama Shuri and a Baby Boy Namor (whom I call Ch’ah in my head) but not in the way you think. It’s a rom-com! It’s sexy, it’s funny, it’s adorable. And these two kinky assholes are in love! Also, he’s a kindergarden teacher; a good one. The way he is written with these kids just makes my ovaries quiver.

2. Filthy Mouth

Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Pairing: Nashuri

Summary: Single father Namor goes on his first blind date and gets his world rocked.

What I Like About It: Almost the same as above, but in reverse! Though more of a straightforward relationship dynamic, not a kept man/woman scenario at all. More of a freak in sheets, lady in the streets situation. But again, there is love and devotion, as there always is with this pairing (well, when writers stay away from the darker dynamics of the ship). This is absolutely amazing. Superbly written, well-paced, tonally balanced, funny, sexy, and somewhat dramatic but not anxiety-inducing. Like, literally perfect.

Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Pairing: Nashuri/Loshuri

Summary: Shuri’s world unravels when she discovers her husband Namor’s infidelity, leading to a heart-wrenching divorce. Amidst the chaos, she finds solace in Loki, a charming entrepreneur with a complicated past of his own. As their unexpected romance flourishes, Shuri grapples with co-parenting challenges, the complexities of new love, and unresolved feelings.

What I Like About It: I mean, I didn’t think that a Love Triangle between Shuri, Loki, and Namor would be so intriguing. That it would be utterly confusing as to who you want to root for. That you would feel your heart beat for the plight of each character. There’s so much at stake, but especially the happiness of a little boy caught in the middle of the mess adults can make of their lives. It’s drama personified, and I live for each installment. Plus, Loki is written so well here, it’s hard not to root for him.

Summary: A year after her mother’s death, Shuri burns her mourning clothes on the beach in Haiti and wakes up not only back in Talokan, but also back in time. Given the chance to do things differently, can she prevent her mother’s death and convince Namor of a peaceful alliance?

What I Like About It: THIS fic is everything I want in a Nashuri. It is another “What If” scenario, mapped and tread carefully. We’ve all imagined what could have been if it had been different, as Namor lamented on the beach that day just after he speared the Black Panther, right before she almost killed him and forced him to yield to her. Go read this! It is so satisfying!

A bit of a mashup, set in an alternate universe, where a modern woman finds herself stuck in a medieval world. She needs the protection of a powerful man (guess who?) to stay safe in this world as there is danger in many places for an unaccompanied woman. The people of the medieval world (with touches of the Renaissance) are also aware of the modern world through the visions of their sorceress. Magic is accepted as being equal to religion. All MCU characters except for two will have different identities in this story. The two will be revealed during the story. Much of this story will be suitable for 18+ readers only. The following days left you free and unoccupied. Since you didn’t have any more physical therapy with Chris, you were able to soak up the morning rays in the living room with your Kindle and catch up on your book.

It also meant that you hadn’t trained with Loki either. You recall knocking on his door again the following day, but still no answer. You didn’t want to look desperate and ask Thor what was going on, so you just left them alone. When he’s ready, he’ll find you.

So you continued to train, by yourself. Walking from one wall of the vast gym to the other. Sometimes, you’d fall. But you’d always pick yourself up again.

It seemed like a different life since you were able to sit here and relax. You thought about the countless times, Loki came and ‘kept you company.’ You missed him. Guilt and worry wracked your conscience, hoping that everything was alright with him.

You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t notice the cushion sinking next to you and a head falling on your lap. It was a ray of copper red hair instead of the dark onyx you were expecting. You looked down only to be disappointed at who you saw.

“Well hello to you too,” Wanda said noticing your grimace. You changed into a warm smile and apologized.

“I’m sorry, babes. I just thought you were someone else.”

“A certain mischievous prince, no doubt.” She stated. You simply smiled at her, avoiding her glare.

“Where are Billy and Tommy?” you asked.

“They’re with Vis in the lab. Playing with Tony and Morgan. It’s nice to get a change of scenery. Those two keep me so occupied with school and extracurriculars. I forget there’s a whole other world over here.” She sighed.

You looked down at her, involuntarily stroking her hair. Wanda glowed. She relished in the small-town life she and Vision had built for themselves. A sense of normalcy in the chaotic world.

“I’m glad you guys can come to visit for monthly dinners at least. I would miss you too much.” You smiled at her. Wanda smiled back, her green doe-eyes sparkling with joy.

“This is a nice spot.” She said commenting on your location on the couch.

A click of a door handle and footsteps down the hall, made the two of you look up. You saw Loki hand in hand with a beautiful stranger. Their laughter peeled through the hallways.

When they reached the elevator, Loki gave them a heated gaze before kissing them, then said goodbye. He watched as the doors of the lift closed, never taking his eyes off the elevator.

The world crashed around you. A loud humming rang through your ears, putting pressure on your brain. Your chest tightened and heaved only giving you short breaths, barely enough to stay alive.

Wanda sat up from her position and watched the whole thing unfold. She felt your change in demeanor. She looked back and forth between the two of you until Loki turned around and spotted both of you on the couch.

“Ladies.” He said with a smile and a slight bow. He continued to walk down the hallway towards his room. Ever the ray of sunshine, taking your sanity and composure along with him.

You haven’t seen him at all! And the first time you did in so many days he was in the arms of someone else!

You heard the click of his door shut and that’s when you screamed inside your head.

Wanda turned quickly towards you as if she heard the wailing inside your thoughts. A tear dropped from her eyes as she felt your pain and longing.

The mess, the inconsolable sob, that she could hear in your head was a contrast to the apathetic face that she stared at before her. Her grip tightened around your hand. Only then did you look into her eyes.

“It’s not like we were ever together.” You said with a smile. “I’m fine,” you said getting up from the couch. Wanda knew that you weren’t.

During dinner, you sat down in between Wanda and Thor. You were quiet and stoic. Only answering with a bob or shake of your head. You kept your eyes on your plate as the team talked around you about various life pursuits.

You heard the chair scrape on the other side of Thor as a whiff of Loki’s cologne traveled down your senses. Wanda squeezed your hand under the table, only realizing that she held your hand this entire time.

“So, Loki, who was your new friend earlier?” Wanda asked. You squeezed her hand back in warning. Some of the team looked up at the question. Their glares bounced between the two of you in confusion.

“They’re someone I met awhile back. We’ve been hanging out for some time.” Loki answered. A while? You felt an all-time low at having kept him from his life. Is that what he meant when he said he had something he didn’t know how to get out of? Was that something, you?

“Speaking of new people. Liesl, do you want to get a new physical therapist?” Tony asked you, sensing the awkward tone in the room. “Liesl? Hellooo Edelweiss, you there?” Wanda squeezed your hand again.

“Hmm?” You looked up at Tony, absent-minded.

“What was wrong with the last one?” Steve asked, passing the mashed potatoes to Clint.

“He was her ex,” Nat answered after seeing you retreat into your bubble. “And she fired him because he made her feel uncomfortable.” You looked down at your plate, digging a grave into the mashed potatoes that you wanted to crawl into. “Once a flirt, always a flirt,” Nat said, looking directly toward Loki.

“I didn’t know he was your ex? Reindeer games, did you know?” Tony asked. Loki just gave a curt nod. You could see the wheels turning in some of the member’s heads, no doubt imagining outlandish scenarios of what happened between the three of you to explain the awkwardness happening now.

“Excuse me. I’m a bit exhausted.” You said in a low voice. You pushed away from the table and stood up, warily. You willed your body not to collapse. You walked slowly towards the sink, deposited your full plate, and walked away towards the bedrooms.

“Do you need help, Edelweiss?” Tony asked.

“No. I – I just want to be left alone for a while.” You slowly made your way down the hall, ignoring the hushed tones and murmurs behind you.

Loki had not seen you in days. And it killed him. He stayed cooped up in his room, refusing to leave, refusing to answer the door. He was a mess. He left his heart open again only to be ripped out by your hands.

No. His hands. He did this to himself.

Tonight had been the final strike to that heartache. The poignant stares thrown his way from the team reminded him of his first days here at the tower. It was like they were all thinking of him as a villain again.

He marveled at your progress when he saw you stand up from the table. All on your own. And you walked! Fates bless her, she walked! By herself! And I wasn’t there to share in her triumph. What am I doing with my life?

“Natasha, what do you mean she fired him?” Loki asked. The table went silent, even though Loki had barely said it above a whisper.

Nat looked towards Wanda who must’ve given her a secret indicator to go on. Nat crossed her arms and leveled a stare at him. She knew what had happened earlier that day. Wanda came looking for her, after you had left the couch, to see if either one of them could help you out.

“Chris asked her out, on multiple occasions,” Natasha answered him.

“But wasn’t he under the impression that we were in a relationship?” Loki interrupted.

Tony pointed his fork towards Loki, “Now hold on ju…”

“Shh,” Sam said as he raised a hand to cover Tony’s mouth.

“Apparently, that didn’t matter to him. She said that he was just a big flirt and that he’ll never change. She couldn’t trust someone like that. So she waited till she can stand up on her own again to finally look him in the eye and fire him.” Natasha finished.

Comprehension dawned on everyone’s faces. But on Loki’s, there was something more. There was a realization, but also shock and fear. Familiar words rang in his head. The same words he overheard you say that day by the lift.

“So you guys were a thing?” Tony finally asked pulling away Sam’s hand.

“It was a sham relationship,” Loki answered, not looking at anyone. “For her, it was so that the therapist wouldn’t see her as some pathetic ex-paramour who needed his help. For me…for me - ” it was real.

As if to turn the knife that stabbed him in the heart, Natasha added, “She waited for you to join her at the gym. What happened, Loki?”

“Nothing. Nothing happened.” And it was the truth. He sat in his room for days contemplating what to do. He had only left this morning to go to the coffee shop where he met…Norns, I don’t even remember their name.

Wanda’s children and the little Stark girl ran in from the separate table across the hall. “Mom, mom, mom. Can we have ice cream now? We finished our dinner.” Loki took this as a cue to leave. He placed his full plate on the sink, next to yours, and went to his room to sulk.

Loki paced back and forth. He twirled his daggers in the air, lost in thought. What just happened? What did he do? What the fuck was he going to do? I shouldn’t have assumed anything. That’s what I get for eavesdropping.

He completely misheard your conversation with Natasha that day in front of the lift. You were speaking about your ex. Not about him.

But he’s so self-centered that he thought you were speaking about him. And he is so insecure that his mind couldn’t think of any other explanation. Why do I screw things up? Why do I destroy everything good that happens to me?! He pitched his dagger expertly at his wall, leaving a thin cavity amidst the many he’s already left tonight.

You waited for him! Gods, he could picture you, in your chair, sitting at the gym, waiting for him to come train with you and he never showed up. He could pull all his hair out right now, just from the thought that he abandoned you.

He heard you visit. He heard you knock a couple of times at his door trying to reach out. And he had ignored you like an arrogant bastard. Will you ignore him if he went to your door now?

He opened his door only to find Thor with his hand about to knock. Surprise coloring both their faces. “Brother. An emergency mission has come up.” Thor informed him. “It seems we have not collected all the super soldier serum from the last outing.”

“Will you need me?” Loki asked.

“No. It should be quick. Wanda and her family had left already to go back to Westview. Clint went back to be with his family. There will be no one here to be with Liesl.” Thor updated.

“I will watch her.”

“I know you will, Loki. And chin up. Misunderstandings have a way to straighten themselves out.” Thor patted him on his shoulder. Then quickly left to go to the hanger upstairs.

Loki looked defeated. There was no way he could ever clean this up. How could he explain to you what happened? How he felt. He had to try.

Loki followed Thor out into the common area. He was surprised to find you already sitting on the counter barstool. Thor went up to you and gave you a farewell bump on your fist as he quickly sauntered off into the lift.

Loki stood in the opening of the hallway, deciding whether to stay or go back to his room. All his bravado from earlier was gone as you sat there in front of him.

He cleared his throat so that you wouldn’t be surprised to see him. And he felt you stiffen and go still at the sound.

“Hello,” Loki said coming into your field of vision. Piss-pot of a greeting that was, he scolded himself. You smiled at him tentatively and tried to stand up. “Please, don’t leave on my account. I was just making myself tea. Would you like some?”

You shook your head looking back down at your plate. You had reheated leftovers, hungry from not having dinner earlier with the team. “Don’t trouble yourself. I wouldn’t want to burden you,” you said detachedly.

That knife in his heart twisted again. He knew how you felt about being a burden to others. “Listen, Liesl…”

“No!” you said forcefully. “Whatever reason you have Loki, they’re yours. You don’t need to explain anything to me.”

“But -” You started to stand up to walk away. You couldn’t handle talking with him anymore. The smell of his cologne, his bright eyes finally looking at you. Your chest tightened at the sight of him.

He had played you. You were just another notch on his belt. And when he finally realized that you couldn’t be what he needed, he went out and got someone else.

“Wait! Liesl, just wait…”

“No! Fuck you Loki!” Your sudden exclamation shocked him. “I trusted you! No, we were never together, but I thought - I thought we were at least honest with each other. So whatever you have to say, Loki, I don’t want to hear it, because I can’t trust a word you say anymore.”

That knife that was twisting his heart, was pulled out by your words. His heart along with it. You continued your exit. Willing your legs to hurry. But they were heavy and aching.

“Woman! Will you please just stop!” He yelled at you. “What do you want me to do? Get on my knees? Beg?” You ignored him and tried to hurry your painful getaway.

He caught up to you and stopped right in front of you, his hands held out. You looked him straight in the eye as he slowly lowered himself. One knee at a time. Blocking your path towards your escape.

Looking up to you, his eyes had burned and tears lined the corners. “I’m sorry.” He said with a low timbre.

His voice vibrates down to your bones. You looked into his eyes earnestly and you saw the truth behind his words. “I was hurt. I overheard your conversation with Natasha by the lift and assumed that you had been talking about me. I didn’t realize that you were speaking about your ex. I didn’t know that you had let him go. I was consumed by my pain that I shut myself in my room for the past couple of days. I only left just today and met the stranger from earlier.”

“So, you lied?” You said, trying to understand his reasons.

“I’m sorry.”

“Do you see, how this proves my point, Loki? I can’t trust you. What if we get into another argument? Are you just going to shack up with the next stranger you see? Just to get back at me every time?”

“No, darling, I would never -”

“You just did!”

“We never did anything. I led them out, gave them a platonic kiss on the cheek which they then turned and made more complicated.” You rolled your eyes at his excuse. “I realized my mistake. I’m here on my knees begging for your understanding.”

You were about to say something. But your face changed to that of surprise and pain. You arched your back yelling out a small cry of hurt.

A masked man stood behind you, pulling your hair back. Loki stood up instantly, registering the danger that you were in.

“Stop. Right. There. Prince of Asgard.” The masked man’s voice trembled. It sounded familiar but somehow off-key. No, it was too high-pitched. He was nervous. He had a dagger pointed to your back and your hair was being mercilessly pulled.

The masked man turned to you and whispered, “Hello, cupcake.”

i really hate calling loki "lady loki" when she's a woman (because "lady" is not her title and it was only used when she possessed lady sif) but sometimes i'll scroll through the tag anyways because that's just what people tag fem loki as but. then i inevitably regret that because

all the art is just so hypersexualized in poses/costuming/etc

just make her look like a "generic pretty woman" rather than giving her like. her actual facial/body features

the last two points wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't like. literally like every. single. one.

all the fics/drabbles/headcanons just seem like. transphobic. and/or fetishiz-y. (it's like it's usually always some smut thing where loki "chooses" to be a woman (for sexy purposes only, obviously)

always refer to masc loki as just "loki" but fem loki as "lady loki". like first off lady isn't even her title, but second off, even if it was, you don't use a title when referring to masc loki!

and then. for the finale. they treat loki's masc and fem versions as. two completely different people. like it will be the same character and they will shift from "loki" to "lady loki" and everyone in the story (including loki) treats it like a completely different person. like idk how to tell you but a single genderfluid person changing genders (even if they can shapeshift) is Still The Same Person. what is going on

anyways. people please stop being weird about fem loki challenge 2023 . genderfluid loki happening to be fem at a given time ≠ lady loki.

The mythological deification of having Brienne, Daenerys, and Arya being strongly connected to the sun/moon in their connected/paralleling narratives.

Eeeee, this is not a question, it is not even a complete sentence ... so I hope I interpreted it correctly.

There are many other points where these characters are associated with the Sun and the Moon. Here I list of some random considerations that I made.

Brienne

First of all the Sun and the Moon are the symbols on the sigil of Tarth. These two symbols in different mythologies are associated with a dualism present in different ancient civilizations: the masculine (for example Apollo) and the feminine (for example Artemis) as opposites.

If we accept this interpretation the sigil can be seen as a representation of an internal conflict of the character. Brienne lives in a world where gender roles are separated and distinct, but she has no place in this extreme binarism. She is rejected from both categories because she is deemed too ugly to really be a lady, but also too maiden to really be a knight.

Dany

She is strongly associated with the Moon especially in the first half of the story. The moon is associated with femininity because of her cycle. In particular, Asoiaf contains the myth of the egg-moon which hatches to give birth to dragons. Dany is obviously the mother of dragons.

Maybe it has nothing to do with it, but the scene of Dany devouring a heart and "giving birth to a dragon" reminds me of a myth in which Loki devours a heart and gives birth to all the witches in the world.

Interestingly, in the beginning Drogo is the Sun, but Drogo dies, Dany grows, establishes herself as the dragon and the conqueror, and the fire motif becomes more and more prominent in her story.

Arya

I would say that in her chapters the Moon is much more present than the Sun. This is also reinforced by her animals. First of all the wolf who howls at the moon and hunts in the night (Artemis goddess associated with the moon and hunting). Queen Nymeria's symbol is the Sun, Nymeria is also the real name of the "night wolf".

Another animal associated with the Moon and Arya is the cat, an animal associated with witches. The trio moon-dreams-cats reminds me of Lovecraft's The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath which I'm sure Martin will have read. In this story, cats are creatures that can safely travel between our world and the dream world on the Moon.

thoughts about the loki show;

season 2 is OBVIOUSLY far superior to season 1. (not that it says much lol) i wish season 1 had been entirely different but s2 does the best out of the mess they had to work with, i'd say.

like Loki actually has powers, even as inferior as they are to the almighty sylvie

i tried to like her during s1. i really fucking tried. shit, i even made gifsets featuring her. but ugh she's just a waste of space. such a badly written character that we're supposed to root for ONLY because she's a girl, nothing else. i did start to like her in the first episode of s2. if they'd kept going with her like that, she'd be okay. but no, she's still fucking annoying and pointless. not as bad as in s1 though, so there's still hope! so yeah i do hope i'll get to like her instead of just feeling like puking whenever she shows up. :)))) (and hey i'm all for the selfcest but with a real Lady Loki if not another male variant, not this obnoxious mess.) i did like the decision she made in ep3 but that's gonna come right around and bite her in the ass, won't it? lol

Loki & Mobius are totally married. ep3 was all about them being an old married couple.

also such a fucking disappointment that we didn't get to see a good shot of them riding the tandem bike?!?! we waited forever and that faraway shot was all we got?!?!? unacceptable 😭

anyways, LOVE season 2. i wasn't excited for it since the last ep of s1 had me so sick and tired of the "plot" but as soon as some people got switched out it suddenly got enjoyable :D or it may just be all the loki/mobius content they're feeding us :D

and honestly? who even CARES about the plot to this series anymore LOKI & MOBIUS CONSTANTLY DATING is what it's all about :'D just give me an episode of that every week and i won't care about anything else

also i do hate that disney changed the time of when it starts streaming. i was so content with season 1 being aired at midnight american time = 9 am here. now it's 3 am on friday and ugh no thanks x)

also WOOHOO!!!! i didn't get completely mentally drained by all the gifing i did for this episode, like i was with the previous ones! (yay the head trauma is still not healed) the only problem i had was photoshop being slow af, but still managed to gif pretty much all the scenes i wanted to gif. awesome. 👍

Hi! This is in response to the anons talking about Sylvie not being as popular as Waldron and Herron would like us to think, and Kevin Feige being totally silent about it.

I think first of all, Feige and the MCU just don't care about Loki in general, period. I don't think they care about any Loki, whether it's Lady Loki, kid Loki, or otherwise. They've resented his popularity, they don't understand him and what he stands for, they call him names and words and mock him and his fan base. I think they would really rather just be done with him and all his likenesses, but they see there's money to be squelched there and they just can't help themselves.

And I think that's why they went with the whole Sylvie story. That's why they keep harping on and on about her being her own person, being "Loki but better" and being oh-so gosh-darn special. Why else would they need to give her a "completely original" identity? Because they don't even want HER to be Loki! They wanted us to perceive her as actually too good to be Loki. They surely didn't mind her getting a jump-start off the coattails of Loki's popularity, but what they really wanted is for the character of Sylvie, not Lady Loki, to catch fire and become a phenomenon. And that didn't happen.

After the series, people were left stunned, and confused, and pretty creeped out by the whole thing. The show actively mocks, belittles and insults Loki and his fandom from start to finish. It antagonized and alienated a lot of Loki fans. Sylvie is a stranger, we don't know her. She doesn't even feel like a real character. She's like a Frankenstein's Bride made up of parts taken from different characters. They tried too hard to make her special. They forced her on us, made the whole show about her and turned Loki into a supporting character for her. And I think the only people who are interested in her, are only interested in her for shipping reasons. And I think Waldron and Herron know this, and they're going to be appealing to the shippers for support.

Well, I think you pretty much nailed it!

It's no coincidence that the "superior Loki" is the only Loki who openly rejects the name and everything a Loki supposedly stands for. They insist on making it clear that she's different as if being a Loki is a bad thing, something to be ashamed of. But she wears the suit and the horns because they still need to sell toys and it's the only way we can remember she's meant to be a Loki variant despite her acting nothing like a Loki.

They say she doesn't want to rule... neither does Loki. They say all she wants is a happy life... yep, so does Loki. They say she had a rough past... well, guess what, so did Loki. There's no difference there so they retconned him: he wants to rule, he betrays everyone and he enjoys the suffering he inflicts on others and his perfect life is a victory in NYC.

Fuck that noise.

I saw concerns about Wanda and vision getting back together but then the cover of sw 8 and the premise of avengers inc was teased to be a sort of “will-they-won’t-they” between Janet and “Victor shade”… I’m kind of on board for these relationships if they pan out, especially vision and janet, that could work really well

SW 8’s cover is probably a fake out but hopefully they’ll finally address whether wanda and Jericho are still together I hate not knowing.

I think Ewing will have to do a lot of heavy lifting to convince me that Vision is ready to be in a relationship with ANYONE... but him and Jan would be fresh and interesting. Their personalities can certainly play off each other in really fun ways. There's definitely a pseudo-incestuous element here, with Vision technically being Hank Pym's grandson, but I don't think that family dynamic has ever been literalized for Jan and Vision, specifically. I could be wrong, I'll have to revisit some older material.

We're also assuming that this "Victor Shade" is the same person as the Vision we all know and love. It certainly seems that way, but we can't know for sure just yet. Either way, I'm really looking forward to Avengers, Inc. I loved Ewing's Wasp series, and I would really like to see a fresh new direction for Vizh.

Now Wanda and Loki.... I really don't know what to say. I want to believe that this cover is some kind of fakeout. It's very reminiscent of a romance novel, so I'm assuming it's just a fun genre riff. We've seen things like that before, plenty of times, and Loki is a flirtatious character, so I don't think there's anything totally wrong with teasing a little chemistry... but there so many reasons why they do not belong together.

One of those reasons is, of course, the ongoing mystery of Wanda's relationship with Jericho. I've said it before, but I think it's really disrespectful, and honestly, anti-Black to just sweep that pairing under the rug like it never happened. But as far as Loki is concerned, there's a lot of weird barriers. The current incarnation of Loki is generally portrayed as a younger adult who is close in age and friendship to Wanda's children. The fact that they're drawn on the cover in exactly their Young Avengers form really drives that point home. There's also some uncomfortable history from that time Lady Loki impersonated Wanda... I know that's technically a different character, but it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I think these two will be a lot of fun together, and I'm certainly excited to see Loki, especially with this team of artists, but I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of them being romantic. If this is a serious relationship, it might very well turn me off of this book completely.

A Kiss At Midnight In Time

Rating: Teen. Word Count: 1300. Tags: Romance, Reuniting, Waltz, New Year’s Eve

Summary: (Post Loki S1): Loki finds Sylvie at a masquerade ball New Year’s Eve 1977. What else would he do but ask for a dance?

Loki held a flute of champagne and looked around the room. The TVA had tracked Sylvie using her temporal signature or whatever nonsense to that night, New Year’s Eve 1977, on Earth in London. Loki dressed in a tuxedo, complete with ruffled white shirt and black bow tie, and headed out with Mobius at his side. It had taken convincing and some magical memory sharing, but Mobius was his friend again. He was across the room, looking as well.

It was a masquerade ball - tuxedos, evening gowns, masks. Loki had chosen a mask of such a dark green it was almost black, plus it had a bit of a shimmer and a golden snake looped around the eyes. The ballroom was in an old building with high ceilings, chandeliers, and decorative moldings on the walls. It was outfitted with paper streamers and balloons in gold and black and one wall of the room had glass doors to a large balcony that overlooked the city.

Sylvie had to be somewhere. Loki’s eyes searched the room. There, there.

Loki’s breath caught. He didn’t take his eyes off a blonde woman with a simple black mask, but she was wearing a crown of gold horns - one was broken. To the room they’d seem part of the mask, but Loki knew better.

Sylvie was wearing a gown of rich emerald green sequins with a slit up the right side. She moved some and Loki saw her bare leg. Oh. Her arms were also uncovered and there was so much skin that he hadn’t seen before. He wished to touch her everywhere. Oh yes. His grip on the champagne flute tightened.

It also revealed her wearing black combat boots and that made Loki smile. She liked to be comfortable, so of course she refused heels.

Loki made his way across the room, weaving and darting through the crowd of people and high cocktail tables on the side of the dance floor. He had so many questions. Was she okay? Did she mean to send him where he ended up or was the destination an accident because the timelines already fractured? What was she doing in 1977? Would she join him and Mobius in preparing for the variants of He Who Remains? Did he mean anything to her? Did the kiss mean anything? Could they kiss again? Could they kiss everyday? Without tears? Could they have a cuddle and watch a sunset? Could she put her hands on his shoulders again as he held her waist? Loki could wait for clothes to come off, he wanted to get it right. He could move slow. He wanted it to be real.

All of the questions were on the tip of his tongue, but once he was in front of her and her shocked eyes met his and the orchestra began a waltz, The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss II, different words came out.

“Would you care to dance, my lady?”

Sylvie’s eyebrows furrowed and her nose wrinkled. Loki’s heart sped up. It was a moment before she said, “Let’s have at it then.”

The champagne flute in her hand vanished at the same time as his - Sylvie’s magic. Loki held out his hand and bowed as he would at a court function in Asgard. She had an amused smirk and grabbed it.

He had to get this right. He led her onto the dance floor as the waltz continued through its beginning. Perfect. Except she furrowed those eyebrows again - oh. She didn’t know how to dance a waltz, having grown up in apocalypses so hadn’t had the Midgardian experiences Loki had.

“Put your left hand on my shoulder.”

As she did, Loki placed his right hand on the middle of Sylvie’s back, careful to not touch her bare skin that was revealed by a deep V of her dress. He had to move slow.

Loki raised his left hand, “Now we hold hands.”

“Sure is a lot of touching.”

“It’s a dance. Now follow me.”

Loki led her amongst the other dancers and she quickly picked it up. Loki dared to press his body closer and a hint of red appeared on her cheeks. Oh he liked that look on her very much. Loki had just about eleven minutes of the song to sweep her off her feet. He moved them to the ebb and flow of the music. There were no words between them - only the music, their bodies, and the dance.

The masks kept some level of barrier as they made eye contact, but it was still intense. Loki felt as his heart would burst, he never wished for it to end. He could hold her in his arms for eternity.

Except the song had to end. Loki knew the end of it was approaching, so he led Sylvie off the dance floor to the balcony doors and opened them telekinetically. Sylvie rolled her eyes but didn’t say anything as he closed the doors behind them.

The quiet roar of a city on New Year’s Eve came from below, and still they didn’t say anything, only held hands. Loki was at a loss for words for once. She was there, in front of him. They danced a waltz.

Sylvie took off her mask. “That was the second most romantic experience of my life.”

“Second, what was the first?” Loki frowned and took off his own mask. He wanted to be on the top of all her lists. The good ones, to be specific.

“The tablecloth.”

Loki smiled. Oh he was. He was the top of the list. “It was a blanket.”

Sylvie shrugged, “Not very cozy.”

“I can do better.”

“You’ve done good.” Her face fell a little, “You didn’t want that throne after all.”

“I don’t. I want you to be okay.”

“I’m working on that.”

There were so many things to say, to ask, but Loki settled on one. “Can I help?”

Sylvie shook her head, “It’s something I have to do on my own.”

Loki’s heart sunk lower than he thought possible. He looked away. It hurt. “Oh.”

“I want you to be okay too.” She squeezed his hand.

Loki’s heart tentatively hoped at the touch and her words. People did have to take care of themselves, but there could be support, yes? Friends, family… a lover. Loki wanted to be all of them for her.

There was a countdown coming from inside and Loki could hear the crowd yell, “Ten!”

Sylvie said quietly, “I’m sorry.”

“Accepted. I’m sorry as well.” Loki still held her hand and she made no move to let go. That was good progress.

“Eight!”

She added, “We could try to be okay, next to each other.”

“Six!”

Loki’s heart hoped even more, but the situation felt fragile, like if he held on too hard it would crush in his grasp, “Perhaps even together.”

“Four!”

Sylvie smiled a little, cautious. “Together.” Then her gaze flicked to his and back to his eyes. “A kiss at midnight’s supposed to be lucky.”

“Two!”

Yes. He desperately wanted a happy kiss with her. Loki smirked then, “We better not miss the opportunity.”

“One!” Cheers went up inside, signifying midnight had struck.

Sylvie tilted her head up and Loki met her in the middle. Fireworks were in the sky as they kissed and their masks fell to the stone of the balcony. Loki moved his free hand to her waist and she moved hers to his shoulder. They moved as close as they could get, pressing their bodies close.

Loki’s heart was full of hope and promise. They could do anything together, he was so sure of it. Even protect the multiverse, but that could wait for its own time. At that moment it was only them and their kiss at midnight.

Wasted potential is definitely the main consensus. In Gagnarok she was a one dimensional Big Bad whose only traits seem to be snarky and violent, which wouldn't be terrible for a standalone popcorn comedy, but is incredibly stupid and out of place within the emotionally nuanced Thor franchise

It's such a disappointment we never got to see anything beyond her capacity to do harm. Why doesn't she give half a damn about her siblings? Why's she so helbent on conquering the universe? Where has she even BEEN these past 1000+ years???

Answering that last question can spin her entire character in wildly different directions. If Odin trapped her in a pocket dimension where she basically slept until her release, then her canon attitude makes some sense. If she's been in Hel the entire time, either chilling with the dead or ruling the realm like in mythos proper, then why isn't she giving more of a fuck about Thanos trying to slaughter half the universe (be it because his idiotic plan is going to overflow her realm or perhaps a grimdark take would have her joining him for the lolz)? If she's been in a dimensional cage with one way glass so she can see life continue without her, why isn't she more interested in being around people, specifically her brothers, ESPECIALLY the stolen war child who was also abused and tossed out by the absolute eggplant that is Odin?

And another thing: why is her aesthetic literally Loki without any gold? Shouldn't that visual parallel have, yknow, meant something??? At this point I'm just mad that Cate Blanchett wasn't cast as Lady Loki because that would've honestly been perfect and she would've pulled it off SO GOOD

To me, the most heinous crime is pardoning Odin's bullshit simply because Hela was "worse" and "went too far." Like, babe, she learned it from somewhere and I highly doubt it was Frigga (if Frigga even is her mother). It's like giving Stalin a pass because Hitler had a higher body count; it's stupid as fuck and they both deserve to be held accountable for their actions

All in all, Hela in Gagnarok is a fun yet disappointing mess. I think it's a shame we never get to see any side of her that isn't overcompetent warmonger. She should've been able to bond with her brothers, especially Loki, as she pulled the wool from Thor’s eyes completely in regards to their father, helping complete his arc of finding his own path rather than blindly following Odin's example. She would've been an excellent way to explore Asgard, both its militant culture and how its influence molded the realms to Bor and Odin's wills. She should've been allowed to grieve and heal and grow past Odin's treatment and expectations of her to find a place with the family she was denied

Hela could've been so many things, but instead all we'll ever get is a bad joke

I agree with the comic Namor and movie Namor being completely different along with movie Namor not touching a white lady with a ten foot pole lol. But I wouldn't say Namor is a villain. He's just the antagonist of the movie.

Also, considering Namor is huge representation for indigenous people, they are going to have to do his character justice or Marvel is gonna have a lot of people on their ass. Plus, I don't think Namor has to do anything "irredeemable" to be remembered. He's already formidable now. People are all ready in love with this character and see him as badass and amazing.

i don’t think namor is a villain either, but Marvel likes to have very defined character types. hopefully we’re moving away from that especially with characters like deadpool joining the fold and loki being redeemed. i agree Marvel has to handle his story carefully because we are now dealing with the representation of a brown man and not just another white dude, they have to be cognizant of the implications of what they make him do which is why I hope Ryan is able to give his input.

i also don’t think he ‘has’ to do anything irredeemable, to be honest he kinda already has but that’s a convo for another time. I’m saying that when Marvel has an anti-hero who is making good points they tend to make them do something irredeemable to make them villains so we don’t side with them or turn them good. it’s just the way these movies go.

i’m glad so many people love namor, i know i do! i hope it opens the door for other indigenous actors because as we can see and hopefully hollywood too, they can bring in as much money as anyone else.

Well considering there is basically no canon to speak of, everything is canon so feel free to play around with any of this.

Headcanon A: Realistic

Sigyn has always had an interest in magic, well before she met Loki. It's part of the reason she and Frigga got along so quickly. Even if she never married Loki, she would have been one of Frigga's favorite ladies to speak to in court.

Headcanon B: While it May Not be Realistic it is Hilarious

Inadvertently kick started the events that would lead to Al Capone getting arrested for tax evasion. (for more details, click the link)

Headcanon C: Heart-Crushing and Awful, but Fun to Inflict on Friends

A reoccurring anxiety Sigyn has is the thought of being used. Her parents used her to support her own status for most of her life, looking to her as a prop in the image of a perfect family. With Loki she hoped she found somebody who saw her as her own person, not a toy to be played with and thrown away. But because of Loki's own fears of rejection, most of the problems in their marriage comes from his seemingly doing just that, picking her up only to push her away again.

It's a cycle that never seems to end until one of them puts a stop to it. It's also why so many Sigyns across the multiverse end up dead, abused and/or alone. Only a handful of Lokis know how to break the cycle and even fewer Sigyns know when to walk away.

Headcanon D: Unrealistic, but I Will Disregard Canon About it because I Reject Canon Reality and Substitute My Own.

Sigyn in alive and well in the MCU and so is Loki. After the events of Endgame, they decided take a well deserved vacation complete with beach cocktails and regular couples therapy.

😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔🤧🤧🤧🤧 this was the saddest chapter so far. We all new this time would come but it definitely hurts so much.

And there are still so many things to reveal. The relationship of Loki and Priscilla is toxic, weird and she's very selfish but...and please don't despise me...I can understand her in some ways. Of course it's not okay how she treated Loki when he didn't want to sleep with her. A loving wife would have understood him, had talked with him ' he wished that she understood how traumatic this was for him. You would have, you always did' but for her this situation isn't easy as well.

I'm not sure about her feelings for Loki and I don't know how honest she is and how trustworthy but sometimes you are hurt so bad that you want to hurt the people around you even more.

We don't know anything about their relationship, how Loki get there ( I still have my theory 😎) how they got to know each other. What are the motives they married. Is it really his child, why doesn't he look like Loki, gave Loki him just an æsir look, did he adopt the kid, did Priscilla nearly die when she gave birth and Loki healed her, saved her and the baby and are they only together because Loki felt responsible for them ? I don't think that Priscilla cheated on Loki....until I change my mind again🤣🤣🤣 Oh my, I think I'm going to far into it 😆🤣

I feel so sad for y/n. I'm sure she and Loki are made for each other, the feelings they have for each other are honest, deep and feel so right.. y/n shouldn't feel guilty. She never forced Bluey/Loki to do things he didn't want to do too. She saved him, he's thankful and deep inside he always knew she's THE ONE.

I'm just kidding. As a wife her jealousy and hurt is completely valid, as y/n said she would feel the same if the situation were to be opposite. But did she convey those feelings in the right way? No. She didn't even ask him where he was and what did he suffer, she initiated sex instead and when he told her that he was exhausted (which was an excuse NGL) instead of being mature about it she threw a tantrum. I mean if my husband returned with a memory loss and another woman I wouldn't do what she did but like you said maybe she's just hurting others because she's hurt 👀

About their relationship, we will find out more soon but you are not far too off with your theories 👀

He knows she's the one and she's the one he had wanted all his life, but he is bound to someone and that's not something he can just ignore as much as he'd want to.
