Drimo I know this was a while ago but you mentioned that Mr. Nothing is actually good one time and since I'm getting back into arknights now I really wanted to ask, how do you use him well? What's the secret Mr. Everything tech? I love him but I unfortunately just find myself deploying him to stand there and look pretty in most stages

Mr. Everything is deceptively strong. He can fulfill a number of roles thanks to his roulette S2, and it's the roulette nature of it that initially turned off many people -- myself included for a long time! -- but then you realize it's really fast to "reroll" and absolutely worth it.

He's not complex to use at all, you just gotta remember his colors (all colors have ATK% up): You want red (ASPD Up) most of the time, but if you want to stall something like a boss, blue (Enemy ASPD Down) is deceptively powerful because Nothing is rather sturdy (Merchants have high base stats relative to cost and redeployment timer, and just in general are solid units) and slowing bosses or elite with slow attack intervals can actually let him be effective to stall for a while or just in general while you get the rest of your cooldowns ready. Mr. Nothing is one of those units that increases in value the harder the content you are doing is, because his utility like Blue Aura stalling actually comes into play. Purple (Phys Dodge and +1 block) is the one you'll likely use the least but it still has its case uses like in early IS2-3 when you don't have much block to begin with, but in general you want Red or Blue.

His most famous use is probably the fact that, I believe with Module lv.3 and Blue Aura, he can stall the Last Knight pretty much forever, because he'll be frozen by him for long enough to charge his next Stun attack (talent), and the stun lasts long enough that, in conjuction with Blue, Last Knight won't actually be able to attack him.

Jaye's a really good unit, so him being such a killer 4* with self-sustain is also a contributing factor as to why Don Nada struggles with popularity, but in terms of raw damage and utility, Nothing offers plenty of options for more specific duties. When you can use what he offers, he definitely delivers it.

How do I approach Aphmau(MCD and Mystreet) again? Used to watch it as a child and now I basically forgot about it, any pointers?

(I’m mostly asking because I want to write a fanfic on it, so there’s that.)

i'm assuming you're asking about where to start with watching them. which is fair. if i'm wrong, correct me, irdm.

I'll be honest, i did make a whole list of everything in chronological order, but this is my personal watch order.

MCD S1 -> MCD S2 -> PDH S1 -> PDH S2 -> MyS S1 -> MyS S2 -> MyS S3 -> MyS S4 -> Aphmau's Year -> MyS S5 -> MyS S6 -> Her Wish it's the entire MCD/MyS universe (barring most Side Stories), in chronological order.

you don't need to watch it in chronological order, but i would personally, just since.... it's easier. also means you'll get all the MCD references in MyS. because there are a lot of those.

Optionally, you could also cram MCD S3 in there somewhere... but don't,

👀 would you care to talk about the symbolism of the other yugioh rivals

SMILES. i would love to. i cant speak for revolver or the bridge rivals yet and i havent seen enough arc-v to have a solid grasp on declan's symbolism yet but i will talk a little about the spinoff rivals i do know pretty well

as a sidenote, like. ok so Kaiba's main motifs and 'symbolism' is...well. centered around Blue-Eyes and dragons in general mostly, of course. And he kind of has those weird disease/virus and mild clown motifs that show up a little in his cards, and those are all plenty cool and they work for what seto kaiba needs to be! but imo that doesn't really get nearly as expanded upon either in the show itself or otherwise in official yugioh What Have You, compared to the guys who came later. i didnt have a good spot to say this otherwise so it's going here lol of course thats just my opinion on the matter

Chazz: anyway, so something I notice is explored a bit more with the spinoff rivals is that they'll have these motifs that actually get extended into their archetypes in the actual tcg, and it's so SO cool to see. Chazz/Manjoume has his whole iconic thunder motif of course, and he also gets that little s2 stint with the Society of Light giving him a brief Bright Distressing White motif and BOTH OF THOSE. HAVE BEEN INVOKED WITH ARMED DRAGON LV 10 CARDS

i really especially love Armed Dragon Thunder Lv. 10-- its whole effect is the Manjoume Thunder chant!!! IT'S DOING THE POSE. IT'S SO FUN.

and of course also Chazz is a character very tied to the symbolism of "weak" duel monsters, of "weak" decks, one-star monsters and the Ojamas especially, and that in general is such a fun spin on a yugioh rival. we do a complete 180 from Guy Tied Almost Exclusively to Very Powerful Dragon to Guy So Symbolically Correlated With Weak Monsters He Dresses Up as One in His Last (and one of his best) Duels. peace and love on planet finding strength in the unremarkable

Jack: ok so Jack is an interesting one. He's very symbolically tied to being the 'King' and to underworldly draconic hellfire imagery [which in of itself is really cool, and I think there's some very interesting dichotomy in there with how Jack's tied with a fiery hellish dragon motif but Yusei's tied to a cosmic heavenly dragon motif...i really love Jack and Yusei as narrative counterparts.] But the thing is, in the same vein Jack's tied deeply to Burning Soul-- the issue is 5D's also very clearly puts forward that the Burning Soul iconography is also tied (and in large part originated) with the Legendary Signer...who is. an indigenous brown South American guy.

And they. gave it to one of the arguably whitest Yugioh characters. Erm. 🥴 classic yugioh racially questionable moments !This is what I mean when I say the spinoff rivals have far more interesting symbolism to me--sometimes the interest is out of uhhhh not great narrative handling!! Gives even more to chew on.

Shark: yeah Shark is the one that makes me insane. There's no way to talk about him and his symbolism without getting into deep Zexal Spoilers, so. Be mindful of that. I'm gonna talk about him and Kite under the cut

ok so Shark is like the goddamn yugioh rival symbolism rivalry gold rush. You trip into the Reginald Ryoga "Shark" Kamishiro Kastle motifs and symbolism well and youre falling for ten thousand years. You cant talk about him without having to get into him also being Nasch, and then you have to talk about the Barian Emperors, and that second you get into that is the second you get sandblasted with some of the most insane symbolism yugioh writers have every cooked up.

There is so much goddamn demonology imagery and motif and symbolism jammed into the Barians I will be here all day getting into it. NOT EVEN GETTING INTO THE BUDDHISM INFLUENCE TOO. You cannot convince me that the Barian Emperors aren't supposed to correlate with the Seven Princes of Hell, alongside their deeply implied Seven Deadly Sin symbolism (and the Ursa Major symbolism too of course--it's what they get their names from!) To me I think Nasch is supposed to be tied to Leviathan especially, being an aquatic-based monster, but he could also correlate to Lucifer, playing on the pop cultural idea of Lucifer being the leader of Hell (and in demonology, typically associated with pride...pretty big trait of Shark's!)

That's just me barely scratching the surface with him. He's got the demonology symbolism, and Ursa Major motif, and seven deadly sins symbolism, and the sea predator symbolism and motif, and the royalty symbolism (good god his DUB SURNAME IS FUCKING KASTLE. THE PALER PART OF HIS HAIR LOOKS LIKE A CROWN.) And also all the insane numerology symbolism Zexal is leaking out the ears with. he's the fucking best. Why did they make this 14 year old so jampacked with this shit. it RULES.

Kite: it's so neat that Zexal has two rivals effectively. ANYWAY. Kite doesn't have as much 'oh my god it keeps going. it keeps going. oh holy shit' tier symbolism as whatever going on with Shark but he's got some stuff going on; I think it's especially cool that he and Mizar/Mizael have this "light vs. time" motif going on with their dragons, a Galaxy-Eyes arms race based on the speed of light. In general Kite's really associated with light, in the the very scientific sense, be it the way his jacket turns white when he duels, his Photon-filled deck, HELL even literally the way his eyes get damaged and his vision suffers is arguably tied to it, and it rocks. I feel like Kite is (esp since Zexal is supposed to parallel DM in a lot of ways) really the rival meant to parallel Kaiba the most, even down to having a dragon ace monster based around something bright (white dragon, photon dragon,) but I think they really took the time to expand on that inherent symbolism and show it off in even more ways narratively than we see with Kaiba. it's just cool the more i think about it the more i really like what they did with kite.

Pernah gak sih ketemu lagi sama orang yang kamu rasa kamu kenal baik setelah sekian lama, terus ketika berinteraksi kamu jadi mikir: “Who are you and what have you done to my friend?”

Aku pernah ngalamin hal itu, di awal tahun 2020. Di fase pencarian beasiswaku, orang ini lumayan berjasa dalam membantuku untuk menjadi lebih runut dalam menyampaikan ide (hal krusial untuk menghadapi interview), dan juga banyak lah obrolan-obrolan lain yang bikin aku kagum. Karena di kampus dia termasuk orang yang lumayan beredar dan populer juga karena aktif berkemahasiswaan. Wk. Biasa lah dari S1 menurutku hal paling priceless dan valuable yang bisa dimiliki oleh seseorang adalah idealismenya, dan bahwa sebenernya memang adalah sebuah kemewahan untuk bisa berpegang teguh pada idealisme-mu.

Waktu awal-awal mulai ngobrol, dia bilang bahwa dia lagi proses kerja di suatu perusahaan, sebuah penerbit buku kanak-kanak gitu deh, dan waktu itu dia juga cerita tentang cita-citanya untuk mengembangkan lembaga pendidikan. Mulia dan idealis, menurutku. Tapi akhirnya dia mulai kerja di perusahaan lain, yang reputasinya agak kurang baik dan banyak berita-berita miring tentang perusahaan maupun layanan yang disediakan disitu. Tapi emang aku sama dia udah nggak terlalu sering ngobrol lagi sampe aku mulai S2.

Di awal 2020, kebeneran dia dan anggota tim kantornya lagi ada outing ke Eropa, dan ada jadwal di Amsterdam. I was excited because we haven’t talked in quite a long time, ditambah lagi waktu itu masih ada sisa-sisa kekaguman (haha), pun tempat tinggalku nggak terlalu jauh dari Amsterdam. Jadi hari itu aku pergi ke Amsterdam untuk menemui si teman ini. 

Sebenernya dari update-annya di media sosial juga udah keliatan sih bahwa dia udah berubah. Haha. Barang branded dari atas sampe bawah, yang u gak nanya pun u tau itu merk apa karena itu logo ngajeblag di seluruh permukaan produk. 

Tapi pas pada akhirnya aku ketemu langsung sama dia, melihat benda-benda bermerk dari ujung kepala sampe ujung kaki dari jarak kurang dari 1 meter, lanjut menemani dia dan teman-teman kantornya di De Bijenkorf (ini dept store high end di Belanda), keluar masuk Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Gucci, apapun deh.. terus juga liat dia nyobain sepatu harga 800 euro, exchange-nya dengan teman-teman kantor (”Si Bapa X beli iket pinggang LV, murah 400 doang”), rasanya ngga ada hal lain yang muncul di kepalaku selain: “Ini orang siapa sih?”

Rasanya kecewa berat. Haha. Rasanya kaya melihat, oh... mungkin ini kali ya rasanya ngeliat orang yang sudah menjual jiwanya ke kapitalisme. 

Makin parah lagi pas dari situ kami semua mampir ke KFC untuk makan siang. Di meja itu, temenku ngebuka Notes di iPhone-nya, lalu ngecek dari shopping list itu apa saja yang belum berhasil dia beli. Dan bahwa dia udah ngabisin uang berapa puluh juta untuk belanja baju sepatu dan lain sebagainya. Itu ayam KFC udah gak kerasa lagi gurih-gurihnya di mulutku. Wk.

Begitu selesai makan, aku memutuskan untuk pamit pulang dan balik lagi aja ke Delft. Karena bagiku dia bukan lagi orang yang sama. I used to think very highly of him. But that day, I don’t even think that I would have anything notable to talk with him anymore.

Hey drimo, quick question! Must i raise the fruity bird to maximize dorothy damage, or is there an easier way to make dorothy dust from my enemies

The Irene-Dorothy combo is really good but it's not a necessity to make Dorothy worth it. Dorothy is really strong by herself, especially with Lv.3 Module, and can slot in into basically any team due to having strong autos and being able to deal strong single damage hits with CC in both Physical and Arts flavor as needed.

If you really to optimize(tm) your Dorothy plays, you want Shifters to continuously displace enemies back so they have to go through mine tiles again, though... This is not really necessary a lot of the time because Dorothy's mines are so strong, one hit (especially once she already has Dreamer stacks, or if it's a Crit mine) will outright kill most small mobs or leave them at low HP, plus she has different flavors of AoE on her mines (small localized area in S2, Bomberman crosses in S3), so she'll usually drive-by plenty of enemies at a time.

It’s about time for the spring season to begin and I’m beginning to scope out what I’m going to watch. This comes with the caveat that I’ll be distracted with a Seattle trip that includes Sakuracon for the next few days, so there’s still some of these yet to have begun.

Anyway, so far I’m interested in Loving Yamada At LV 9999 (Crunchyroll), Skip and Loafter (Crunchyroll), The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 (Crunchyroll), The Dangers in My Heart (HIDIVE), and Tonikawa S2 (Crunchyroll). Oh, and assuming Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible returns - that too!

Kinda curious how Yamada and Loafer put their own unique twist on romances. Dangers seems like it’ll be quirky. Really hoping Kubo gets to wrap this season. And last, curious how Magus continues, and imagine Tonikawa will be good regardless. Onward to another season of shows to watch.

I'm actually just finished reading the first part of you marching band au, working my way through the second part now. Just took a break from the LV fandom for a bit as I got into a few other hyperfixations and honestly there was a few things about the second season that I had a hard time with so it makes it hard jumping into certain stories.

I can get this perspective.

Unfortunately my neurodivergence/hyperfocus/special interest hasn't changed, so it kind of feels abandon-y that everyone else has give up on the fandom or what not. My brain doesn't let me decide what we're interested in. It just tells me and I have to go with it.

I basically disliked the entire second half of S2 and dislike a lot of the plots they're focusing on in S3, but yet, my brain has decided we're attached to these characters because S1 was so good and because the Simonverse novels and the Love, Simon movie were so good.

I hold little hope for the canon at this point, but I think that makes me feel even weirder about people falling away from the fic, because to me, if the canon goes poorly/gets fucked up/etc. that's when I want more fics especially AU and fix-it fics.
