Christ wtf is with these cats. Why the actual flipping fuck were they claiming Squirrelflight was a traitor and should be exiled for a hot minute with -20 evidence.

Cursed Dark Forest concept: it's made of flesh.
When Brambleclaw first wakes up there, he's unnerved by how warm the ground is, how it has a pulse which never fades. On the other hand Hawkfrost finds the pulsing reassuring, as if the land itself is looking out for him. During the Great Battle he feels alone, the ground beneath him cold and unyielding.
Lionblaze, however, pays more attention to the sparse plants. He's learned well about them from his siblings and Leafpool despite having no interest in being a medicine cat; he knows these are plants no living cat has ever seen. They smell weird too, like blood and guts instead of flowers, with leaves looking a little too much like the bits you find in freshkill. After stopping his training, he gets a bit queasy around guts and gore for a moon.
Ivypool took a long time to notice what the Dark Forest is made of; after all she comes there after Hawkfrost meets her in a bright, sunny meadow (she does not notice the pulsing soil beneath her paws, or the veins bulging in the stalks of the flowers). Even when it becomes clear things are what they seem, she still trusts it is soil of some sort. It is only when she's digging her claws into the earth as she watches Antpelt fade into nothing that she realises the ground bleeds and scabs.
When her daughter enters it, however, Bristlefrost knows at once what it is made of; the trees are enveloped by translucent skin with thin grey hairs, gleaming muscles moving the trees around in the windless air. Blue eyes grow in clusters where there should be flowers, piercing white teeth sprouting alongside tongues on thorns. Worst of all is the low, grunting noises of pain and effort coming from nowhere in particular, each accompanied by the ground lurching. The Dark Forest has always been alive, but now there is a mind behind it.
