I LOVE MATCHMAKING AN ALREADY TOGETHER COUPLE it’s soooo cute, especially when it’s kids… they just want their silly oblivious adult to be happy (they don’t know he already is). Kon getting to see Tim mentoring a bunch of kids. Reminiscing about their yj days. Tim shocking them by just how many heroes he’s familiar with who respect him. CUTE!!!

YEAH!!! bc like, tim is just by nature an intensely private guy. he hasnt mentioned that hes happily married bc why would he. it isnt relevant hes just here to train these guys in nonpowered combat and gadgetry and such and to mentor them on missions at their skill level, etc. his personal life is on a need to know basis by default. (incidentally, he's also a great listener because he's such a steel trap. he's got like 5 different angles on whatever teenage drama is going on in their lives. he will not be intervening unless as a last resort. why would he.) he's very personable and good with them (yeah he's awkward yeah he puts his foot in his mouth now and then yeah he goes how do you do fellow kids. but like. hes a people person and they love him) but he just doesnt really talk about himself much.

and YEAH kon loves to see it <3 i also really love to think about kon mentoring a lil baby telekinetic in how to use and exercise their powers. hes teaching them to crochet and then knit and slowly expanding the number of moving pieces they can control at once. some of tim's kids are at least a little jealous because supernova is soooo cool but also like theyre Fiercely defensive of tim. thats THEIR scrungly but hypercompetent weird guy. HES REALLY COOL TOO OKAY. ignore that he just said "get pwned" after defeating 4 of them at once at a spar. he didnt say that. they dont know what you mean.

but YEAH overall its just cute :> good vibes. a romcom but like theyre already married. the comedy is the kids discovering that they are in fact already married. they confront tim one day like tim. we KNOW you have a crush on mr. kon-el!!! and tim's like. completely flabbergasted. you think i What??? and theyre like. WE CAN TELL, TIM. YOURE NOT SLICK. and tim just stares at them for a minute

and then he calls kon over (just says "hey, kon, can you c'mere for a second?" and supernova just shows up?!?! like hes just listening for tim's voice calling for him all the time????!?!?) and goes "okay. can you guys please repeat your conclusions to kon for me?"

and theyre like. tim are you asking us to tell him you have a crush on him for you. thats kind of pathetic tim we're seventeen

and kon's just like. wait. wait wait wait. turns to tim with a 1000 megawatt grin. SUNSHINE... YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON ME? AWWWW.

tim: yeah i mean i think it's slightly more serious than that, given that i, oh, i don't know, married you two years ago? kon: AWW.... hehe!!! the kids: YOU WHAT?!?!?!?!? tim: now! i know for a fact i've told you all to do your due diligence on research, background checking, and investigation before jumping to conclusions, so this makes for a great case study and a fantastic learning opportunity--

Okay yeah, I wasn't sure about it at first but after actually reading it, The Parasite has me in a chokehold now. Of course Clark is beating himself up for a tragedy that he couldn't have known to try and prevent, and of course everyone else is beating themselves up for not thinking of mind control. How could anyone have known? And how would anyone think to consider a brain parasite of all things? Especially in a Kryptonian. His last brain scan wasn't even an unreasonably long time before the parasite took over, so they can't even say that they missed a checkup or anything (before it was too late anyways)

And Kon, if he actually did notice the mind control and the parasite actually did kill him, of course he'd be the one to see it. With mind control being as familiar of a concern as it is for him (being born with programming like that, even incomplete programming, would probably have you checking your thoughts and actions regularly) and it being CLARK, yeah it is very likely that he would be the first person to notice. Really hoping this isn't the case though, Clark is already in enough pain from the things the parasite did. Him and Kon don't deserve this.

In conclusion; good angst, great angst, I got so upset I got a headache (frequent occurrence when stressing out over angst. Brain don't like tension, which is unfortunate because thats one of my favourite things to read)

I'm also really pleased the logic of why no one realized what was going on worked for you, I tried REAL hard to make it believable. Like, there's just situations you can't plan for and wouldn't notice! That's just a thing! Even with people you really care about and even if you're Lois Lane or freakin' BATMAN.

I dont think ive ever talked about. Like. How cool I think zack is. Paranatural has been going on for over a decade, alwhile they’re doing other comic projects on the side, working on a visual novel(????), running a patreon, merch items, small illustrations, WHILE maintaining a (from an outside perspective) healthy and ACTIVE social life. That’s unbelievably impressive.

They still work on the project they started when they were 18. How many webcomics that started in 2010 and are still running can you name? Growing up and starting to work in the comics world- specifically, slowly being introduced to and learning how bleak the comics world can be- really exposed to me just how much this is just. A story they *want* to tell.

Art school and conventions surrounded me with amazingly creative people, but so many of them had been beaten down by nonexistent contemporary cartooning scenes, the mass-production of storytelling, hustle culture. I started hearing ‘oh, I have this project but it doesn’t get much attention so i stopped.’ ‘you’re publishing on webtoon? psh, good luck unless you’re lore olympus or mongie.’ ‘nobody likes this why am i even making it.’ etc etc.

Why do we make? Why are things worth hard work?

Zack smashed their wrist to pieces and was still determined to keep this comic alive. When the ~9-panel format wasn’t working, they fucking *restrategized* to make it work in their favor. Do I miss the comic as a comic? Yeah. I grew up with it. But I also grew up with it, and watching a master of their craft rework a project so they can keep telling it showed me the grit people can have when they’re stubborn and put their minds to it. It asked me: you want this? How bad.

Theres a lot to say about Satishi Kon and numerous others and working yourself to death, people taking advantage of that, destroying your body, thinking ‘do I want to do this project or do I want a healthy body in 30 years and a social life with people who love me’, so on. That deserve to be said and read. But isn’t this post.

It’s bewildering to me how Zack manages to just. Do BOTH. At the end of the day, they really just seem to like creating. And thats so cool. Thats so cool.

Connor Kent, because of course i freaking do. Have you met them? Have you seen them? Of course I do. This is definitely my top Tim ship because I love them so much. There's Angst, there's Comfort, there's Dumbassery -- I love them, I love them, I love them. They are perfect.

Steph, because I think they're cute and because they're often on the same wavelength with one tilted slightly to the left and I love that about them. They make a fantastic team & I feel like they balance each other out pretty well. They also often give off chaotic best friend energy, whether they're dating or not, and I ADORE that!

Bernard, but I'm not gonna lie it took some warming up. Probably because I hadn't really heard of him before Timmy had his canon queer awakening and I'd been heavily shipping timkon before then, BUT the kid's grown on me. I just freaking LOVE that Tim's dating a goddamn bat conspiracy theorist?? Are you kidding me??? Thats comedy fucking gold right there. Honestly I think my only requirements for shipping someone with Tim is that they are great friends with him, vibe really well, able to get him out of his head sometimes, and be freaking chaotic. Personally I’m a bit pro Tim/Kon/Cassie

Totally valid!

Personally I just struggle with shipping Cassie with guys, that's the thing that holds me back from also shipping that (bc I can understand the appeal)

Her relationships in canon (which primarily are just Kon and Tim that I'm aware of? At least for anything longterm. Not counting New 52 Cassie here tho) both to me feel like things that grew out of very specific circumstances rather than genuine attraction on her end (i'll explain what I mean by that under the cut).

Which contributes to how I just really see her as a lesbian that hasn't quite come to terms with it yet which obviously isn't the only way to interpret her, but just makes me look at ships of her with guys and shrug and say 'eh thats not in line with how i see Cassie so its not for me'

So what I mean by the circumstances thing is:

Kon was a celebrity crush before she even met him. I feel like that piece of their relationship gets so overlooked (more so when they go to the Teen Titans, vs Young Justice which is where it was ya know established) and I think so much about how this is why she started to like him:

Where she's very specifically talking about how things are based around expectations and assumptions people make because 'oh well of course that would make sense for us to be together' rather than... that feeling coming from a place of genuine attraction. It just reads as comphet to me, it really really does. That, which then later gets mixed with her genuinely caring about him because they're friends.

And by the time they go to the Teen Titans, Cassie and Kon (and all the core four tbh but ya know) get just so drastically altered that their relationship feels even flatter and less genuine, even though they don't make reference to that stuff being the foundation of it. (I also want to point out on Kon's end he didn't really start reciprocating feelings for her until... after Sins of Youth where Tana was murdered in front of him while Cassie was present. (During and right before Sins of Youth it was Match flirting with her) After that moment he becomes more protective of her, something she notices and is annoyed by... To me that just really feels like because Cassie was there, some of his guilt over not being able to protect Tana turned into a compulsion to protect Cassie which over time he began to see as romantic feelings)

Then the Tim situation was born out of both of them grieving and looking for comfort in one another more than anything else. They share their first kiss both in tears in the lab Tim tried to clone Kon in, and Cassie ultimately breaks things off because she realizes she was just looking for Tim to be a stand-in for Kon (the same thing she felt she was doing with Kara)

Sooo yeah. It's not like there's really canon evidence for her liking girls or anything like that, this is more just the way it all feels to me and is my personal interpretation of it all. Anyways DC let Cassie date girls <3

first of literally none of them (dick, damian, cass, bruce, ESPECIALLY jason?? lmao??) would say that. but even if we did, its like. bro. this is kon we're talking about. kon "i gave my girlfriend a kryptonite stake in case she ever needed to kill me after that one time i got mind-controlled and hurt her" el. he has Fucking Trauma around the idea of feeling like a danger to his loved ones. anyone he respects telling him they genuinely do perceive him as a threat to tim is not gonna be a cutesy "oh um y-yes sir ahaha" incident. it's gonna be a "superman's mile-wide protective streak just got activated because you just dug into the trauma and weak spots of someone he loves for no reason, and he's at your door now and he's fucking pissed" incident. bc kons just like oh no yeah i totally get it if you think i should die thats fair i think that too on a regular basis. lol

also like at that point if you pull something like that, tim "i am so protective of kon i will try to shield him from kryptonite radiation with my fucking cape" drake will be burning any and all bridges with you with great prejudice. but okay. sure.

Dick and Wally:

- Volunteer at homeless shelters in free time

there’s gotta be one thing on this list that’s purely wholesome

Id like to think Wally loads boxes of food and supplies really fast onto trucks or something while dick distracts everyone

- Movie nights

wally cracks constant jokes

and when it started at the titans tower it pissed dick off (the mans got a temper as bad as his siblings)

but slowly he started to like it

and now they spend every movie crackin jokes

Roy and Jason:

-Watch bad porn intros and laugh at them; and then constantly reference them during missions

idk man thats just wholesome and i like the idea of damian hating it and then begrudgingly accepting it and then expecting it and looking forward to it (without admitting it of course)

Summary:

He’s twelve and watching Robin fight. He’s seventeen and staring up at the ceiling. He’s nineteen and text-spamming his best friends.

Tim’s growing up and finding himself, and he would really appreciate if the Realizations didn’t happen when he’s trying to sleep. Kon and Bart would probably appreciate that as well.

It starts as he’s watching the second Robin knock out some muggers. It’s not the first time Tim has seen Jason’s Robin take down a group of criminals, but it’s the first time that he nearly gives himself away as he squeaks.

Jason’s so strong, and cool, and pretty, and – oh. Ah. Okay.

He calls it a night at that, bright red from the questions that are swimming around in his head. He spends most of the trip home lost in thought. When he’s sitting on his bed, one of his best pictures of Jason’s Robin sitting in front of him, he gives them a voice. Talking usually helps him get his thoughts in order. “Okay,” he whispers, “do I like boys?” He doesn’t dislike them – not at all. But does he like them? Maybe, but… how is he supposed to know? “Is that too big of a topic?” he wonders aloud to the picture. “Let’s start with this: Do I like Robin? Jason-Robin.”

That doesn’t turn his brain into a jumbled mess like the previous question did. Of course he likes Jason-Robin. He’s absolutely amazing, protecting people and checking on the working girls and kicking criminal ass! He’s only a couple years older than Tim is, but he does so much more! And he’s real in a way Dick isn’t.

Jason’s just a kid like Tim, though they have such different backgrounds. Dick was a trained acrobat, with skills Tim never really believed he could learn. Jason seemed closer. He was still more amazing than Tim could ever hope to be, but it wasn’t an entirely impossible stretch like it was with Dick.

“And he’s so passionate, especially when it’s a kid that’s in danger. And every time he smiles, it just makes me so happy that I kind of want to giggle and—” Tim stops babbling. He doesn’t need to anymore, after basically answering his own question. Yes, he does like Jason Todd, the current Robin. As in, he has a crush on him. Tim falls back on his bed to stare up at the ceiling.

“Well,” he says, “that explains the weird, squirmy feeling I get in my stomach every time I imagine talking to him.” That feeling is always accompanied by a fierce blush and Tim hiding his face for a good two minutes. He thinks he probably should have caught on sooner. Deciding that was enough Realizing Things for the night, Tim quickly locks the picture of Robin up with the rest and collapses on his bed to sleep.

The next day – a Saturday, which is Mrs. Mac’s day off – Tim hops on the computer and starts researching. He has a crush on one boy, but Tim still thinks girls can be cool. Batgirl is pretty awesome, after all! After a few hours and a lot of new information, he settles back on his bed again. He’s bisexual, and sexuality can apparently be really fluid. In all honesty, it didn’t take him hours to find the term, he just fell into a rabbit hole of researching sexual orientation and gender identities. Tim’s fairly secure in his gender, but he’s glad to have learned. It’s something to keep in mind about other people – to not assume anything based on appearances.

He’s bisexual, with a crush on a boy, and his parents will still expect him to only date girls. At least the boy was Robin and completely unattainable.

Years later, Tim is laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling once again. It’s a different bed by now, in his own apartment at seventeen. The thing is, he’s pretty sure he has no interest in romance. And now his brain was mixing everything up in a tangle of thoughts and feelings again.

“Holding hands is nice,” he admits. “I like cuddling. That was fine.” He hasn’t gone further than making out with anyone, so that’s about the limit of his physical experience. It’s the implication of emotions that makes him want to skitter away. Specifically, emotions of the romantic variety. Now Tim’s reassessing every romantic relationship he’s had, though he’s only ever dated women.

At the time, he had thought he was happy while in each relationship, but… it’s becoming much more likely that it’s because he was previously starved for affection. He suddenly got that affection while dating someone. That thought makes him want to hide from everyone he’s ever dated. Stephanie is the only one he really still has to see, and that has him burrowing under his blankets.

It sounds awful, honestly. Like he was using the relationship to get the affection he so desperately wanted. Logically, he might be overthinking this. He just wishes his dumb brain would tell that to his anxiety and the ingrained societal expectations. “I didn’t mean to,” he mumbled into the blankets.

Romance, dating, being happy in a relationship? He has no other experiences to reference! He didn’t know that something wasn’t right.

Hell, he’s only having this Realization because a woman was flirting with him at a gala and asked if he would like to get dinner together sometime. A romantic dinner date with a woman he wasn’t close to. The entire scenario would be romance with no physical affection, and that didn’t sound pleasant in the slightest. It did, however, make him realize that he might need to think things through again.

So, here he is. Thinking things through. No romance – if he’s remembering his research correctly, the term is ‘aromantic’, similar to ‘asexual’. Asexuality was something he’d heard more about over the years, but he rarely heard of aromanticism. It had just stuck out because while the terms were similar, their meanings were pretty different.

Now he’s glad it stuck in his mind. It gives him less reason to panic about being confused. So, he was bisexual and aromantic. That’s fine! He’s a vigilante, romantic relationships would be difficult anyway.

A year and a half later, Tim’s fingers fly across the screen of his phone, sending text after text without waiting for a response. Either his friends would wake up or they wouldn’t. Hopefully they would.

Tim: Oh my god. Guys, wake up, I’m an idiot. Bart, Kon, please. I’m so dumb. How the hell am I this oblivious? I’m not bi-aro at all. I’m just fucking gay. It’s 5 am and I can’t sleep, and I just want a boyfriend. I want to do couple things, like cuddle up while watching movies.

Clone Trooper: dude, it’s the middle of the night. why do you do this to us?

Tim feels no sympathy for his friends – he’s been running on less than six hours of sleep for years. Sometimes less than four hours. High school and vigilantism don’t mix well. Anyway, they can deal with waking up to deal with his Realization.

Sonic: bro we cuddle up when we watch movies are we not good enough for you anymore

Tim: Yeah, but that’s platonic, Bart. And yes, I’m aware of the time. I’d like to be asleep too, but I’m lonely and sad and having Realizations! Suffer with me.

Clone Trooper: … suffer how? are you expecting us to have an existential crisis too, or is this just suffering by being awake?

Tim: Being awake. It’s not an existential crisis, it’s just a Realization.

Sonic: its the middle of the night i think it can be deemed an existential crisis

Tim: But seriously, someone please tell me how I jumped passed the logical conclusion I should have come to of “I’m just not attracted to women” and directly to “I have no interest in romance at all”? How did that make sense to me?

Sonic: society conditioned u to like women

Tim blinks at his screen. Bart isn’t wrong, but Tim has absolutely no idea where he’s going with that. He already had the Realization about societal conditioning, thanks.

Tim: Okay? I’m aware, but I’m not sure how that translates to how I didn’t think of the logical conclusion.

Sonic: dude. for years it was a fact – since you were a kid u were so conditioned that u should like women it was just a fact

Clone Trooper: think of it like this, tim: as far as you knew, you liked women. later, you figured out you like guys, but you still think you like women too.

Tim: We’ve established, yeah.

Clone Trooper: so, suddenly something is weird. the only really new thing is that there is romance involved. so that’s clearly gotta be the issue.

Oh. He stares so long the screen goes dark. He drops his phone on the bed and stares up at the ceiling, turning that over in his head. So. He jumped to not wanting romance because it was so deeply ingrained that he was supposed to like women? His exhausted brain seems to accept this explanation enough to calm the edge of self-recriminations.

Tim: That. Makes sense, I guess. But still, it really seems like I should’ve realized a while ago. Also, I’m kind of surprised that you aren’t teasing me for being oblivious.

Sonic: oh thats coming but teasing is saved for when u arent having a crisis

Clone Trooper: later, we’ll absolutely laugh about that jump in logic. but right now it’s too early and you’re already having A Time.

He’s not sure if he has wonderful friends or terrible friends. Tim suspects that he’s still going to hear about this in a few years. It’s the kind of thing they won’t let die for a while.

Tim: Fair enough.

Clone Trooper: great, glad we got that cleared up! now tim...

Tim: What?

Clone Trooper: please. GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP.

Snickering, Tim plugs his phone in and smothers his face in the pillow. He’s still lonely and he still wants to analyze every missed evidence over the years, but he’s also exhausted. The chat with his friends did get his brain to shut up enough that he might actually be able to sleep. He can rethink his entire life again after he wakes up.

OKAY LETS SEE

1) Since it’s on the mind bc of toh—i’m an absolute sucker for found siblings. Of course, i enjoy the found family trope in general and most variations (middleaged character adopting a random ass kid, etc etc) , but when its focus is on siblings? I eat that shit upppp. I mean relationships like luz and hunter, any of the dc families tbh, the rgb siblings (nya lloyd kai), or my ocs keiko and rolin—they scratch a special part of my brain.

Maybe its because i’m eldest sibling myself, and my brother is only two years younger making us pretty close in age, but i just really like sibling relationships and they hit more than parent/child ones for me😭🙏 We don’t always get along, but i’d say we have a pretty strong relationship now

Something about going through the same motions, esp if ur both still trying to find ur place in the world, and knowing you have someone to rely on is just so special to me. Even with blood siblings, it doesn’t really feel like unconditional love at first. Like, you have to choose to be someone who will care and be there for them. Urgh idk it just feels different even though with parents it’s also a choice to care about someone. Like with a parent or guardian, it’s like you want to expect them to have all the answers, but with someone closer to ur age who chooses to treat you like family, it’s like—well we both don’t know what we’re doing but we have each other to lean on.

And the “found” part isn’t necessary but just a nice treat bc i feel like it highlights that Active choosing to care for someone like family. waaah. Like Kai in s1 of ninjago having a whole arc that leads to him leaving behind his own desires to save tiny lloyd, and then literally promising to always look after lloyd after , or luz promising to keep hunter safe bc he’s family now, and then my story with my ocs rolin n keiko is all about them becoming siblings to each other😭 it just makes me feel sooo emotional

also sibling banter 💥💥💥 i feel like u can say more uncalled for shit w siblings

So yeah if you look at my list of faves don’t be surprised if u see a lot of characters who have a significant sibling relationship in their story 🙏

2) Now i dont know if this counts as a trope, but as for fave character type theres usually this One scene that makes me go Oh i love them. and that scene or line tends to go like this: Character up to this point has shown a fun, perhaps confident or carefree personality, but as soon as they’re alone, it’s revealed to the audience they’re capable of feeling so much more. Idk i guess im thinking kon at the campfire, or wukong in lmk specifically always being chill then being serious when he’s alone

3) Also in category of things that make me love a character: slapstick comedy to highlight dorkiness. or honestly just any type of comedy that undercuts a character’s supposed Cool/Importance Factor. 💀 like the amount of slapstick a character goes through has to be proportional to how unaware the character is of their own dorkiness. Im thinking Kai bumping his head while threatening garmadon or bragging about his skills only to get slammed by a tree (or a rock. or a wall. the list goes on.). Or Kon saying he’s fine cuz he can fly only to wham his head when the ship turns and then subsequently get flung around while the ship flies, or slamming his face straight into the ground cuz he’s an idiot.

Or like, Karkat’s whole thing. he’s a walking clown circus. sollux going “do NOT run that computer virus” and karkat ignoring him only for the computer to explode in his face. idk that shit makes me laugh

4) When characters start talking about how they don’t wanna be left behind—it depends on the writing but that usually Hits for me 😭

Bruce who quickly lost control of the situation: What, No it isnt like. Wait! Tim, I wouldn't just forget you exist! Everyone calm down I would not just forget one of my children.

Damian completely fed up with Bruce: Ok then what does Maya look like?

Bruce: She's a girl... with black hair... and blue eyes.

Damian: Absolutely ridiculous, You really did forget her! I'm leaving as well!

Jason: Me too!

Cass: Same.

Steph grabbing as much food as is physically possible before following Cass out: Kay kay byyyeeee!

Duke just walking out the window: Ok, well this was nice.

Dick: Oh would you look at the time gotta go back to bloodhaven. I'll be taking some photo albums if thats ok with you. It is!? Great! See you later!

Why? because I can

1950s Kara Zor-El

4/10: very much what adult men in the late 1950s thought a 14 year old girl would be like. She’s got a horsey (who’s really a boy...) and a kitty, and she’s pretty ineffective, on the other hand she seems nice

1980s Kara Zor-El

9/10: I’m a sucker for a headband, she got a kind of soft reboot in the personality department to be a tougher, stronger more flushed out hero and equal to Superman, she fought and beat the shit out of a god and it was great.

Supergirl 1984

-2/10: honestly one of the most hilariously sexist movies ever made. Again a teenage girl as written by 50 year old men in the 1980s, but unlike the 1950s-60s comics Supergirl is suppose to be doing something but is hanging out at a girls school for no reason.

Power Girl (Kara Zor-L)

11/10: She’s my favorite, she’s got attitude for days, she’ll beat the shit out of you for breathing near her, she’s the original anger management superhero and I love her

Supergirl (Matrix)

6/10: I don’t have a particular problem with her, per-say, but her taste in men, Lex doing a fake Ausey accent? also she’s kinda bland I feel like writers didn’t really member she’s a shape shifter enough

10/10: ah! yes! flaming wings, fire eyes, power judge souls? oh my god this was some good shit, really my favorite Supergirl, it’s loony and out of the box but I love it

2/10: the outfit is ugly, when she had reduced powers was stupid, again is that a skirt or a belt? it really looks like an outfit a Spice Girl would wear for a music video.

Supergirl (Cir-El)

5/10: Costume is okay, she’s not in much, one of those characters you want more from and more of, fun for fan fiction, but really what's on the page is pretty limited.

Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) 2004-2011

-4/10: YIKES, dreamed up with the help of Eddie “the creep” Berganza, this version of Supergirl was a 14 year old girl in a barely there mini skirt and belly shirt, lots of.... this ^ kinda thing, and shots of her red panties....

Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) New52

4/10: why did everyone in the New52 need a collar? what was that about? also just having a red square over her crotch.... that's.... yeah, also she was a jerk to discount Kon for no reason don’t love that

Supergirl TV show

7/10: I like the outfit, the character is a little peppy for me, I couldn’t really get into the show, though I have seen some of the later cross-over stuff and thats cool

Supergirl Rebirth

8/10: only took them 35 years to realize the classic look was best, oh well, can’t say I keep up with her, wish she was in the other Super books more? where's that big super family I want?
