Tell me about something you're writing, a story idea, headcannon for a favorite ship, or thoughts on a show, movie, and/or Broadway show. What's been going through your brain begging to be let out during your very swamped year? Share your joy and/or angst with us. :)
Hello, dear friend! Thank you for this ask. As much as I want to come up with a writing/fandom/reintroduction meme (and I will try), having a question to direct my thoughts helps a lot.
What am I writing? Well, the easy answer is "nothing," as I haven't touched my stories in so long - but I am hoping to change that! Life has not allowed for fandom writing in a long time, but I'm going to try and ease back in, and see if I can get back into my 300x3 habit - 300 words, 3 times a week. It was good for me before and helped me move through a lot of stories, so maybe it will be good for me again.
That said, maybe the better question is "What am I thinking about writing?" And that list is long, but some things are closer to the top of the queue than others.
The first thing is actually part of a series. I started the third installment of my Lucy/Caspian AU (Sea and Stars) for the Narnia After Dark fest this year, and didn't get to finish it (despite the fact that the deadlines were set around pagan holidays, which was delightful!). I really, really want to finish this story and share it with the Narnia folks who love and participate in NAD.
The second thing is another continuation. I wrote a story a while ago called Three Ways Peggy Carter Could Have Come Back from the Dead - and One Way She Did. The original story had four possibilities, and was set up as a series of snapshots. I got pretty invested in each idea, and in February I wrote a second chapter that was a continuation of the first possibility, picking up that story thread and showing some more of how it played out. I'd like to do the second possibility next, and see what happens.
I've also had a couple of nascent story ideas floating around in my head that I haven't started - a new Jo/Laurie story based on a Brahms song (and yes, that Jo and Laurie from Little Women), and a new Jack/Sarah story inspired by Sara Bareilles' song "Poetry of Dead Men." The latter has been in my brain for a long time, and I'd really like to get it down.
All of those feel like they are lower stakes than my massive Newsies love letter, We'll Be There to Defend One Another. I love this story so much, and my brain has been grinding into gear again about it recently, mulling over plot lines and details and how to resolve the many pieces I've put into play. It's just a lot - it's a lot of detail and a lot of research, and as much as I love this story and everything about it, it feels very high stakes because I'm so invested in the finished product living up to what I want it to be. So that may take longer to attempt, just because the stakes of it feel so much higher.
There are other things lingering in my WIP pile that I could finish, too, but I'll stop there! That's a good start. :)

Last sentence tag game!
Tagged by @catkin-morgs ☺️
“Rules: Write the latest line from your wip (or post where you last left off in your art) and tag as many people as there are words in the line. Make a new post, don’t reblog.”
Could be worse, Tim thinks again, hugging his knees to his chest.
Am I writing a dark Batfam fic instead of working on any of the other WIPs on my plate? ….maybe.

Write A Little Every Day Project - June 1
I signed up for the WIP Big Bang a couple of months ago to finish my story that I've been working on for Fandom Trumps Hate for the past year and a half. Rough Drafts are due July 18th, so I'm hoping to revamp my "WALEDP" project from January and finish this off. My muse is finding writing on notepads to be more stimulating than google docs, so probably no word counts. But I wrote a page today!
WALEDP is also going to stand for "workout a little every day project" as well for June, because I've been slacking off and my hips hurt and I sleep better when I do.

We're still here! We never left!
Hey guys, looks like there was some drama in our little fandom recently?
Never fear, Free Narnia is alive and well! Actually we've always been here... it's just hard to find us lol.
The cool people in the Narnia fandom are reminding everyone that inclusive and welcoming people exist! Anyone who needs a Narnia that welcomes all LGBTQ+, all POC and BIPOC, all genders, those who read and write smut (and those who would rather not), those who believe in non-Christian religions (or none at all): we are here for you. Feel free to reach out anytime to any one of us.
There is much joy to be found in this fandom, if you find those who feel as you do and share the content that brings you happiness. We will celebrate it with you and encourage you to make more of it!
@bywayofmemory, @callowyn, @galadryels, @klaineharmony, @larmalot, @owl-song, @pencildragon11, @rthstewart, @syrena-of-the-lake, @thatgirlnevershutsup, and @wingedflight are all awesome authors and people who have been around the Narnia block and written some great stuff.
And shoutout to @geazled for bringing all of the persistent issues in Narnia fandom back to the forefront.

2021 Fic in Review
I was tagged by the ever supportive @curls-cat so thank you very much my friend!! @klaineharmony also posted hers so I sort of morphed the two of them together.
Stories completed this year:
I finished “Holding Hands and Blue Flowers”, “Who We are in September”, “It’s a Rigged Deck They got All the Marbles”, “Candy Castles in the Woods”, “They’ll be Plenty of Time for That”, “Sweet and Spicy”, “Bells and Resolutions”, one chapter of “Somewhere in the Crowd there’s You”, and a handful of chapters for “Surviving the Ride”.
Total word count:
According the Ao3, I wrote 43,823 words this year! I am crazy beyond proud of that number, oh my gosh.
Fandoms written for:
Newsies and The Sisters Grimm, as usual haha
Did you write more, less, or roughly what you expected?:
This amount of writing is what I had hoped for. I of course had lofty goals of writing so much more, but man I’m so proud of myself. I’ve never written this much or this consistently before. I’m not going to say it’s more than I expected, but I honestly think it’s more than I thought I could accomplish. I’m not sure I expected this of myself.
What’s your favorite story of the year?:
Almost without a doubt it’s “They’ll be Plenty of Time for That”. I am still so in love with it. It’s truly a love letter to Spot/Sarah and to 1890s New York.
Did you take any writing risks this year?:
Not really? I tried some new styles in “Surviving the Ride”, especially with dialogue and I think it payed off but I’m not sure I’d consider that a risk. I think putting yourself out there is always a risk though and I’m happy I’m posting more than ever.
Do you have any writing goals for the New Year?:
Write more consistently. I did for a while but I’ve really fallen off the bandwagon. I want to post at least once a month. Ideally more than that. I want to finish “Surviving the Ride” this year. And work on all the other projects I have floating around my head. Concretely, I want to get a writing schedule down.
Most popular story of the year?:
By hits and comments, it’s “Surviving the Ride”. By kudos it’s “Holding Hands and Blue Flowers”. Which isn’t surprising honestly because I work the most on StR and HHBF is a Javid fic.
Most underappreciated story of the year?:
In hits, it’s “They’ll be Plenty of Time for That” which is CRIMINAL. That story is my favorite and honestly I think it’s some of my best writing too.  In Kudos it’s “Sweet and Spicy” which is surprising cause Jarah fics normally do a little better.
Most fun story to write:
Probably, “It’s a Rigged Deck, They got all the Marbles”. It was based off of a conversation in the Bryan Denton Worshippers Group Chat (RIP), and an ensemble fic which was all fluff and silliness. I wrote it really fast but it was so much fun.
Most unintentionally telling story:
I’m not sure. Maybe StR because I had a reaaaaally hard year car-wise and that whole fic became about cars as a metaphor for peoples emotions. Whoops. Car accidents will do that I guess.
Biggest fanfic related disappointment?:
Just not writing enough. I’m disappointed in myself in a lot of ways related to fandom. My seeming inability to follow through. I feel like I let a lot of people down with that.
Biggest fanfic related surprise?:
The amount of dedicated comments I get on StR is second to none. People have been so sweet with that fic and it constantly blows me away. I didn’t expect to get half that when I started writing a fic about Spot and Sarah on a roadtrip.
Favorite part of fandom this year?:
This was SUCH a good fandom year for me. Becoming friends with my dear Bryan Denton Worshippers GC friends (now on The Refuge discord) has been the absolute highlight. My year was made infinitely better for it.
Getting to work on my paper and the panels for PCA next Spring has been a weird and wild dream come true. I’m going to go talk about Newsies...professionally. Working on it has been so rewarding.
Also Newsiestober and Grimmtober were so good too.
Something you look forward to working on in 2022?:
My Newsies skating AU!! I’ve kept it under wraps but it’s coming and soooooon.
This has been so rewarding to look back on. It’s definitely made me realize I might be a little too hard on myself. I accomplished a lot during a really hard year and for that I am proud.
Taggng: @eatsleepandsing @annaw8799 @maggs-is-a-muppet and whoever else is interested! I can’t wait to hear about your writing years!

Six Sentence Not Sunday
Hi @martsonmars thanks for making me realise that time flies. I missed out yesterday because I was having a mental breakdown over statistics. I probably fucked up my statistics exam, but I also think statistics are evil so we’re even.
It’s one again from che col tuo lume mi levasti.
“I’ve had enough of that bullshit English food.”
Simon hugs me from behind.
“I liked some of it,” he whispers in my ear, “Spotted dick. Cockles.”
“I’m going to fucking kill you, Snow.”
“Cream pie!”
“Cream pie isn’t English. It’s German.”
Tagging (no pressure) @quizasvivamos @hakunamatamara (welcome back!) @lady-divine-writes @facewithoutheart @backslashdelta (sorry for hating on statistics) @slayediest @captain-aralias @redheadgleekfic (or do you prefer that I tag @redheadgleek?) @esperantoauthor @klaineharmony

AO3 Tag Meme
@klaineharmony tagged me like last week and I’m just now getting to this, oops. >.<
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
273, although I have collection of <1000 word stories that I originally posted individually on here and FFn, so technically I’ve written closer to 300 fics, probably?
2. What is your total AO3 word count?
497,239. Not half bad for a one-shotter!
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
5, if we count my Newsies/Supergirl crossover for both fandoms. The others are Glee, Riverdale, and Call the Midwife. (God, that’s eclectic to list.)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
They’re all Klaine fics, to the surprise of absolutely no one:
1. But Now I See, my blind!Kurt/sighted!Blaine fic. (Tbh, I don’t love that I took this prompt and made the big moment in this one curing Kurt’s blindness, but I wasn’t aware of how ableist that trope is when I wrote it. I’m not going to delete it because that feels like sweeping it under the rug, but please know that I know better now.)
2. Unforgettable, a Cheerio!Kurt/nerd!Blaine AU based off this prompt: “You probably don’t remember but you saved me from some bullies once in middle school and god damn it every year you just get hotter"
3. Finally Found the Boy, a florist!Kurt/barista!Blaine AU in which I utilized every trope known to man: “#okay but combine all four: person a works at a coffeeshop #person b works at a flowershop #they start fake dating to cover for person a who's lied to their parents about meeting their soulmate #but then they do whatever thing reveals soulmates while fake dating and start REAL DATING #THE END”
4. Covert Cupid, aka your classic nerd!Kurt/jock!Blaine gift-giving AU. (You know, like Secret Santa, but for Valentine’s Day.)
5. Make A Move, a Cheerio!Blaine based off this anonymous prompt: “a klaine alternate meeting fic where one of them is working at a kissing booth and the other one keeps coming back with money and asking for kisses “for charity” and they basically end up making out in front of everybody bc the kisses are so great okay love u bye” (Yes, I DID use a One Direction lyric for the title; no, I am NOT sorry.)
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Every time! At the very least, I drop a “thank you” and a heart, because I’m just that grateful that anyone has enjoyed my fic enough TO leave a comment. If there’s a more specific comment, I try to address it, too.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Uh, probably none of them? Happily ever after or BUST, pals.
...
Okay, I literally looked through all of my fics and this drabble is the only thing that even REMOTELY ends angstily. Plenty of my work has some kind of drama in the middle, but I firmly don’t believe in tragic endings.
7. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?
I’ve only done one proper crossover (e.g., featuring characters from both universes), but I’ve done plenty of AUs based on other pieces of IP! My one true crossover is Just Be Real (Is All I’m Askin’), which mixes Newsies and Supergirl with a dash of past lives/reincarnation. Listen, when you put Jeremy Jordan in two things I love, I’m gonna find a way to combine those things, friends.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I once got called out for using the term “maiden name” in a fic, but I’ve never truly been flamed or anything. Hope that stays true!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not often, and not outside of the Klaine fandom, at least as of right now. In those fics, I leaned a little more M than E in my ratings, and there were some D/s leanings, but that’s really based on how I saw that pairing. If I ever do smut for another fandom, I may totally mix up my kinks depending on how I see the couple/throuple/etc!
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I think I had some stories posted to at least one of those random pirate sites back in the day? But I’ve never been deliberately plagiarized that I know of.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I’ve definitely tried! Truffles and I worked on at least one co-authored fic once, but I don’t remember if we ever posted it.
12. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I’m only supposed to have one???
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Like many Millennials, I’m sure, it was Harry Potter. If you go digging in MuggleNet FanFiction, you should be able to find my terrible acrostic poems from when I was 14.
14. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Oof, again with the favorites? I have a couple that I’m more proud of than others.
Of my Call the Midwife fics, I love What’s in a Name? the most, simply because I included so many characters and feel like I managed to capture all their unique voices/personalities. And I created a moment I want to see on the show!
For Newsies, my 9k beast We Just Might Win proved to me that I can write more than 2,000 words without having to base the story on another piece of IP, and I’ll always love it for that. (And for Jack, Davey, and Kath, of course!)
I’m proud of all my Klaine fics on some level, because they unlocked a creative output level in me that I genuinely will not ever be able to match again. I think a crowd favorite of mine was my Sound of Music AU, My Heart Will Be Blessed, but if I had to pick a personal fave? I’d have to go with Destiny. Caroline @thehouseofthebrave gave me this incredible prompt for it, and I just love how I filled it.
I think a lot of people have been tagged already, so anyone who wants to do this should tag me as their tagger, but I also want to see @knightsofthegaytable‘s answers!

1, 4, 5, and then a question of your choice.
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
I usually write in Times New Roman, both because it's the default and because I like how it looks. :D Sometimes I will write in Tahoma, just for something a little different.
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
Perspicacity. Gloaming. Ethereal.
5. Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?
I don't know that I do, actually! I write when and where I can, always, and I'm not particularly superstitious about that. I just wish I had a way to find more time.
9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know
I do! :)

First Lines Meme
First lines of your last 20 fics!
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favorite authors!
I was tagged by @klaineharmony - thank you!
These are all actually from 2021, which I wouldn’t have been able to say in any other year; the catch is that fully half of them are Darklina drabbles. I like what I like and it is very, very apparent.
1.  In the first life, the pieces of their story align, and all unfolds exactly as it was intended.
- The Tisroc and the King (The Hollow Dreams Slip Away Remix) (Narnia, from this year’s Remix Revival)
2.  In the old days, the Kings of Winter reigned.
- Use My Heart Like a Weapon (Narnia/ASoIaF crossover, from NFE 2021)
3.  Susan’s first real memory is of holding Lucy.
- There's Nothing We Cannot Ever Fix (Narnia, also from NFE 2021)
4.  “This should have killed you,” Alina says, tracing the slice along his bare thigh, a wound so ancient it’s silver.
- Grace bound in scars (Shadow & Bone, from Season of Drabbles)
5.  Locke’s causing chaos again.
- A Rush of Blood Is Not Enough (Folk of the Air, from Pine4Pine)
6.  “How many times could I stab you,” she asks, breathless, “before it finally worked?”
- Carve me from the inside out (S&B, Multifandom Drabble)
7.  “You might have loved me, once,” he says, and she blushes, heat rising in an unbidden rush of blood.
- The truth of flames told in ashes (S&B, Multifandom Drabble)
8.  “We’ve done worse for Narnia,” Ed says, looking down on his sister, the black river of her hair gleaming in the firelight, so like a feminine mirror of his own shorn mop.
- Like a man prays in a burning church (Narnia, MFD)
9.  “What would your faithful say if they saw you now?” he asks; Alina can’t muster breath to respond, quivering, glistening under him, dripping wet between her legs.
- The Bed Warmed by the Body (S&B, MFD)
10.  Why in the gorram hell don’t it ever go smooth?
- The bullet to my gun (Firefly, MFD)
11.  Sturmhond’s airship crashes, and she runs.
- In the Cracks of Light, I Dreamed of You (S&B, MFD)
12.  It’s easier this way, Inej thinks, Nina’s hair tickling one palm, her blade’s comforting weight in the other.
- Better the blade, my dear (S&B, MFD)
13.  It begins when the blade breaks.
- Drunk on the Dying Light (S&B, the single thing on this list I wrote for myself)
14.  Though she’d rather die than say so, Alina can’t help being grateful when a Tidemaker shoves her at the steaming tub, tucked away in a nook behind screens and curtains.
- Under the Pink (S&B, Writing Rainbow Pink)
15.  Hair, Kaz finds, is different.
- Having Trouble Inside of My Skin (S&B, MFD)
16.  She tries to put it from her mind, curled inside that trunk.
- The dark, the light, the shame (S&B, MFD)
17.  When she dreams after the Fold, he’s there, wreathed in black, shadows carved across his face like chasms and still beautiful in spite of it.
- Blend into my death (S&B, MFD)
18.  He should have known.
- Be Consumed by the Flame (S&B, MFD)
19.  Simon’s busy working on Jayne (bullet through his shoulder, curses in his mouth), so it’s Mal who sits down beside her with needle and thread.
- Embed it in my skin like love (Firefly, MFD)
20.  When Queen Susan arrives, it would not be quite accurate to say the only emotion Aravis feels is relief.
- Not the Innocent (Narnia, Narnia After Dark)
Patterns: I’ll either use a short, punchy line or a longer one that begins with some dialogue. Very few of these are anything other than those two styles. I tend to be wordy and use a lot of commas, semicolons, em-dashes etc, so maybe I like to start out with less of that?
Favorite line: “Simon’s busy working on Jayne (bullet through his shoulder, curses in his mouth), so it’s Mal who sits down beside her with needle and thread.” I’ve still got River’s voice down, a decade after I started writing her! It’s particularly well-suited to writing drabbles, too.
I don’t tag people and I think Harmony tagged almost everyone I know anyhow, but anyone who wants to should grab it!

3, 8, 28 for the "3 things" meme. :)
3. 3 songs that mean something to you
I have to look up songs now because I suck at titles. And I don't care if my choices sound silly or that I'm too old for them.
1) From the Ice Princess soundtrack, there are a couple of songs that I would, and sometimes still do, play over and over again. I was able to find 'the official Disney video" of one of them - No One by Aly & AJ. It talks about not wanting to be anyone else but yourself and not changing for anyone else. Which I really needed to hear at time when a former best friend and former friends were being really shitty. They had been for years, yet I kept caving and trying to brush it all over, forgiving, etc. Tumblr later teaching me to let poisonous people go was the best lesson ever, but I hadn't learned it back then, no matter how many times I had tried and wanted to.
2) Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground) by Mike + The Mechanics. I loved this song and video when I was in high school and still do. It was the time when V: the Series was on and Red Dawn (the original 80's movie) was out with Terminator either out then or was not too many years later.
For a teenager growing up in a shitty, abusive home in a backwards city on the OH border the desire to get away and have a life that actually meant something, where I had value, was strong. Value, such as being part of a resistance moment in a dystopian world. :D
I wrote a short story on this type of trope, similar to the song & video and adapted it for a monologue/one scene with props and blocking for a drama class assignment. (I think I got a B.)
Side note: I never remember the name of this song nor the group that sang it, only "can you hear me running." It was over a decade before a friend was, "Oh, I know that song! Here's a link!" which I then promptly forgot. lol
3) Times Are Hard for Dreamers - Ame'lie the Musical. I saw commercials for this Broadway musical shortly before leaving on a 10 day non-stop research trip to Canada with my hub and son, and immediately bought the original Broadway cast recording. It was shortly after the 2016 elections and we were wanting to emigrate, but most importantly, get our gay and Hispanic son to a safer country via transferring universities. We didn't want to just assume Canada would be best. It was the top of 3 countries that fit the bill on paper.
This song - damn... son and I sang (badly) to it so much on the trip. The title alone struck a cord. We've always been a family of doing things our own way and screw what others think we "should do" of following the norm. It lifted our spirits during a terrifying time where we knew hub and son had a chance of being detained just for crossing back into the U.S. because of their race despite being born on the U.S. mainland. Puerto Ricans were being deported to countries they weren't even from because border patrol felt their IDs were fake. And all of that was on top of the increased homophobic and racism that was everywhere including son's university campus and our democratic lead, still racist AF town.
When we got back from our trip, I was so sad to find out that the musical never got picked up. Son and I were really hoping to see it.
Link to a video of Ame'lie West End Slime Tutorial (which was cool because I'd never seen it performed before)
Link to video of Phillipa Soo singing it
Link the official You Tube page for Ame'lie Broadway
Bonus song - Take On Me by ah ha - it's just a really, really cool video and I have never stopped loving it since I first saw it play on MTV as a teenager.
8. 3 tv shows that you never get bored of
This is kind of hard because sometimes I do need a short break from the news.
1) The Maddow Show - Rachel Maddow on MBNC because of her and The West Wing I finally understood politics and became a political junkie. Her show was one that I used to teach my son politics too.
2) The West Wing - I'll do a rewatch every now and then of my box set
3) The Reid Out - Joy Reid's latest show on MSNBC. I would watch her morning weekend show when it was on. Gods, I love her so much, especially her segment "The Absolute Worst." She pulls no punches which is awesome!
Bonus: The Facts of Life Goes to Paris - Jo's storyline and bits of Mrs. Garrett's and Blair's, but mostly Jo's. Every time I happen to catch it, Jo is who I watch for. <3
28. 3 things you love cooking/baking
1) Bread - multi-grain of this and that, all by hand. Though I come from a long line of homemade bread makers, my mom never taught me. I learned on my own when I was 19 via The Cornell Bread Book by Clive M. McCay and Jeanette B. McCay. It was a thin thing that cost me $2.00 back then and taught me almost everything I know about making bread. Link takes you to Amazon.
The second bread book that's a go to is no longer in print. It's "Flat Breads from Around the World" by Donna Rathmell German. I googled and found it on Amazon. I'm assuming you could find it elsewhere too.
2) Lemon or key lime no-bake cheesecake - I didn't even know there were baked cheesecakes before I moved away from home. It's super easy - 8 oz of cream cheese, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, 1/4 cup lemon or lime juice &/or 1-2 tsps of vanilla extract. Beat it all well, pour into a graham cracker crust or don't use a crust. Chill until firm. It's also great frozen after it's been firmed up in the fridge. I have some with blueberry topping in my freezer right now. :)
3) cappuccino brownies - from a dark chocolate box mix and 2-4 tablespoons of instant coffee mixed with the water the mix calls for because I'm a bastard who doesn't want to make them from scratch when a box of mix is $1. These brownies got me through the first year of the pandemic. I was putting in 20 hour days at home adjusting our lives, making them as safe and more independent as could be. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, scared for my son up in Canada, and scared for my hub who continues to have to work in person in the office and put in a ton of weekday, Saturday, and holiday OT as an essential government worker that no one acknowledges on the news or politics. Cappuccino brownies are also a godsend on road trips or any time you need both a sugar and caffeine rush.

@mirkwoodsguardian and @klaineharmony both asked for #59: “Did you seriously injure yourself carving a pumpkin?” enjoy!!
newsies, Jack/Kath, Sarah, some of the kids
~
“Did you seriously injure yourself carving a pumpkin?”
“Katherine, we’ve been married ten years, this can’t be the weirdest thing ya ever heard me say.” Jack winced as he wrapped a dishtowel around his hand, holding the phone between his ear and shoulder.
She huffed over the phone. “Well, are you okay? You’re not bleeding out in front of the kids are you?”
“Nah. They’re in the livin’ room. Think Pete got the best look, but he ain’t squeamish like Corey so---”
“You didn’t answer the bleeding out part,” Katherine said in a slight sing-song voice.
Jack scoffed. “Hold on, I haven’t looked at it.” He unwrapped the towel from his hand. Considering the amount of blood, it actually wasn’t as bad as he thought.
“Okay, you’re taking too long to answer. Scale of stubbed toe to Lucy’s pneumonia scare of oh-three, how worried do I need to be?” Katherine’s voice was starting to hit a slight panicky sound, and he could hear that she wasn’t moving around her office anymore.
“Just missin’ a couple fingers,” he said, turning on the water.
Katherine huffed again. “Jack---”
“I’m fine, Kath, just got nicked. More blood than anythin’.”
“Well Sarah’s on her way over, let her look at it.”
“Oh yeah, because as we all know Sarah’s secret medical degree and years of first aid trainin’,” Jack said, reaching under the sink for the first-aid kit. “Wait, why’s Sarah comin’ over?”
“She’s dropping off Lucy’s costume. Mine too, I think. I don’t know if it’s done.”
“Thought Buttons was doin’ the kids’ costumes.” He tried sticking on a band-aid while balancing his phone on his shoulder still.
“Just the boys and yours. And they did some collaboration on the dress. Sarah wanted traditional, Ben wanted Broadway.”
“Ain’t they two different colors?”
“Since when did you know anything about Wicked?”
“Since Race made me watch it three times this summer. An’ that Glinda’s blonde.” There was a knock on the door and he moved the phone away from his face. “Pete, can you get that? It’s Auntie Sarah.”
“Sarah’s there?” Katherine asked.
“There’s only so many people who even come over an’ you said she was comin’ over.”
“Sure, let our children open the door to whoever. We don’t need all three, right?” At least her voice wasn’t sounding too panicked anymore, just fondly exasperated, which he took as a good sign.
“Hey, Pete’s fast, Lucy’s a screamer, an’ Corey’s had three full karate lessons, they can fend f’r themselves.” Jack moved from the kitchen to the living room, where the kids were tackling Sarah’s legs with hugs.
Hugging her shoulders over Pete’s head, he handed his phone to her. “Sarah, tell my wife the kids aren't being murdered.”
Sarah took the phone from him. “Hi Kath, all kids and limbs are accounted for. What do you mean, what about Jack?” Sarah looked up at him. “You cut yourself carving the pumpkin?”
He held up his hand, showing her the bandage stuck to his palm. “Barely! ’m fine.”
“You let him use real carving tools? Don’t they have kiddie carving sets?” Sarah asked into the phone.
Jack rolled his eyes, letting Lucy hold onto his hand and climb his leg. “This’s why you two don’t talk,” he said, taking his phone back.
“I think we talk very well. Like the classy ladies we are,” Sarah said in a faux-snobby voice. Dropping the voice, she held a hand out to Lucy. “C’mon Lucy Goosey, let’s try your costume on.”
Shaking his head, Jack spoke to Katherine as Sarah and Lucy disappeared around the corner. “You need better friends.”
“She was your friend first!”
“Okay, then I need better friends.”
“Can’t argue with that.” The activity on her end had picked up, and he could hear her keyboard clacking once again.
“You gonna be home f’r dinner?” he asked.
Katherine sighed. “Should be. I need another hour to get this to Bryan and I can do any rewrites after the kids are in bed.”
He nodded. “Sounds good. An’ you’s in luck, because for the third week in a row---”
“Nooo,” she laughed over the phone.
“---Corey has requested chicken fingers and french fries,” Jack finished.
“Do you remember having a diet that didn't consist of frozen chicken fingers?” Katherine asked.
“Ain’t no better way to live, babe,” he said. “I’ll let’cha go finish up so ya can come home.”
“Wait, do I need to get another pumpkin?” she asked.
“Why’d we need another pumpkin?”
“Because you cut yourself carving that one! We’re not putting out a pumpkin with blood on it. Mrs. Johnson down the hall already hates us, we don’t need her telling the landlord of some... health code violation, or whatever.”
“Mrs. Johnson is a mean, old busybody b---” Jack cut himself off as he saw Pete and Corey poke their heads over the couch as he passed them to go into the kitchen. “---witch.”
“Nice save, Cowboy,” Katherine said with a snort. “I’m getting another pumpkin.”
“Well, Mom knows best.”
“Don’t you forget it. Love you.”
“Love you too, Ace.”

klaineharmony replied to your post: I just discovered that a local library has a new...
That is all fantastic, both about the Things and your card and your writing meet-ups! :)
@lucy8675309 and I meet up for a few hours, @wowbright and I have regular texting check-ins to make sure we’re staying on task, and @chocolateforyou gives me applause and motivation at night if I meet my goals.
Too bad promotions don’t come with acceptance speeches, because I know who I’d be thanking.

I’ve been tagged by @klaineharmony and @wordshakerofgallifrey in one version of this and b @radioactivepigeons in another so I combined the 2 (there was one question difference lmao).
How many works do you have on Ao3?
146 (and like many who have done this before me, a couple are drabble collections and such)
What's your total Ao3 word count?
530,111 words which... wow.
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Oh dear GOD if I listed each individual comic series we’d be here all day. We’re gonna go with the five I know for sure off the top of my head w/ the 3 big subcategories for comics.
DCU
> Batman comics
> Teen Titans/Titans comics
> Young Justice cartoon
Newsies
Les Mis
Percy Jackson
Harry Potter
What are your top five fics by kudos?
All of these are older and Batfandom so I’m not even remotely surprised by this.
Family Gatherings Dick wakes up to a text from Bruce asking that the whole family meet at the Manor that night, causing him to stress out all day.
No Judgement Damian crashes at Jason's apartment and has to explain to Jason why.
Nursing a Sick Bird Tim loses contact with his family when he gets sick for a week, causing Dick to come and check in on him.
Bat Kid Jam Sessions All of Bruce's kids play an instrument which gives Dick Grayson and Jason Todd an idea.
Annual Wayne Enterprises Take Your Kid to Work Day Bruce has Tim, Damian, and Dick all coming to WE for the day and he's a bit nervous over what kind of mess they might make.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do! Though I see now there’s a bunch sitting there that I haven’t yet. I’ll get to them when I’ve got more spoons. I love interacting with people and knowing what they like about my stories and writing. It makes me really really happy.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
I don’t really write angst? I don’t think I write angst. I write a lot of ennui. So much ennui. And bittersweet endings. Donna Troy and the Outlaws may be the closest to an angsty ending cause they only get one resurrection out of a possible two? But again, it’s more bittersweet than anything.
Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?
DO I EVER. Yes. Yes I write crossovers. Mainly modern au newsies/les mis cause it just makes sense. The craziest one has to be from my main newsies/les mis series A crooked politician? Yeah but that ain't news no more where I dropped so many references in media, networking, and other things you don't learn in a lecture to Hairspray and Hamilton characters that I wrote the “shit show” of the four musicals being combined in a modern au that I alluded to (and I think I was encouraged if I remember correctly) and it’s called Cautionary Tale.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not so much hate as someone doing what was essentially a “well, actually” on the politics in one of my Crooked Politician fics. The moral of the story is character views and emotions and blatant optimism do not directly reflect that of the author and I did study political science and know my stuff. OH! And then there’s my crowning glory of a DIFFERENT Crooked Politician fic being quoted out of context in a New York Times article. That isn’t really hate but it was certainly something.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Haha. No.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I welcome translations and podfics!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! @wordshakerofgallifrey and I cowrote Costs of Civil Disobedience as part of her Piano Man au and by that I mean were LITERALLY typing in the same doc at the same time. It was wild and amazing. From Across the Bar isn’t cowritten but is my companion to her fic Play Me A Memory. @radioactivepigeons were working on a leverage!newsies au but then we both got busy.
What's your all time favorite ship?
I? Don’t think I have one? Uh... Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing? Parker/Hardison/Eliot from Leverage are the ultimate ot3? I care very little about ships. If I like it, I like it. If it squicks me, it squicks me. If I don’t care, I don’t care. Sorry?
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Oh the Batfam Ghostbusters au. The concept is still solid but I just don’t have the motivation or know where I would go with what stands. If anything I’d strip it for parts and write it new.
What are your writing strengths?
I have been told my descriptions are really strong but personally I think that my character voices/dialogue is. Also my ability to write teenaged ennui. Any ennui. It’s a mood.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Grammar! I do weird shit with my sentence breaks and make run ons and just absolutely butcher punctuation. And balancing characters in ensembles. That’s hard.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I’m going to quote @radioactivepigeons here cause I agree with it wholeheartedly and she puts it better than I possibly can rn: “I think there needs to be a narrative purpose. Like, is it building dramatic irony? Is someone being purposefully excluded from the conversation? Is there a characterization where the linguistic difference matters?“ If the answer is no then just note it’s being said in the other language.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Actually physically wrote a story out? Batman. I wrote a “patrol report” as Batgirl to my friend as though she were Robin in middle school as part of a christmas present.
What's your favourite fic you've ever written?
Oh this is hard. Uh glitter and gold is like my love of DC characters made manifest and is absurdly long but like there’s certainly scenes I like more than others. Three Card Draw might be my favorite? I love the vibes and the little world I made and using it to work out my own thoughts about gods and magic as a stepping stone for my original stuff.
Since I think literally everyone I know in the newsies fandom has been tagged in this at some point I’m going to kick it towards the dc folks. Absolutely no pressure to do this. @audreycritter @oh-mother-of-darkness @sohotthateveryonedied @preciousthingsareprecious @whore4batfam

Fic Questionnaire
Tagged by @elozable Thank you friend!
How many works do you have on Ao3?
52
What's your total AO3 word count?
649,520
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
12, too many to list. If there is a sad white boy on screen who I can save with my words I am THERE.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
As we are watching the sky unwinding, nothing that hasn't happened before, Seven Fourteen Northbound, Long Way Around, We were the one thing in the galaxy God didn't have his eyes on
Wow my titling style really does vary
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Most of the time! I am always really grateful and want to engage. If I get a bunch all at once, I might not reply to one like "Nice!" and that's it. I might not reply to comments on years old fic, sorry!
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
It's got to be nothing that hasn't happened before in which JJ is desperate for someone to intervene and stop the abuse at home, but nothing happens. (Granted, this is canonical.) My fics really boil down to stopping/resolving/processing etc trauma (who does this surprise?) so to not resolve it is VERY strange for one of my fics. I stand by it though!
Have you ever recieved hate on a fic?
I don't think so! I got one that was like "your fic is FULL of grammatical errors" and they were correct lol.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
No dude, I am violently ace, I have a hard time writing kissing scenes.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Hahahaa yes. There is a writer (who is a child) on ao3 who has responded to me posting something new by posting a fic with the exact same scene to scene content, sometimes exact dialogue, timelines, etc etc. More than once. At first I was really mad, but then I figured out at they are a child, and now I just think it's cute.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! One of my very old Teen Wolf fics was translated into Polish.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! I cowrote (and technically am still writing) a Teen Wolf fic.
What's your all time favorite ship?
I'm just not much a ship person. But I love Spot/David from Newsies. I think it's an excellent ship.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
There's not a fic that I want to finish but don't expect to. I've gotten pretty good at finishing fics in my advanced years. It's just a matter of when.
What are your writing strengths?
I love writing dialogue and think I'm good at it. I also think I can be funny when I want to, which is a pretty recent skill that I'm proud of! Another one I'm proud of is being true to canon characterization and dialogue style.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Plot? What plot? CONFLICT??? What conflict? The way my writing goes is "I would like to see Logan Echolls go to Al-Anon" then I just...do that. I can actually do brief conflict pretty well, but my sustained conflicts are all internal and personal, not in the world.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
In 649,520 words maybe 4 of those are in a different language.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Veronica Mars! I deleted all my ff.net fics but it was some straight angst.
What's your favourite fic you've ever written?
Paper Boys. That fic surprised the hell out of me. I had no idea it'd be what it became. I am extremely proud of the third chapter and the risk I think paid off in the final chapter. And I know it's a number of other people's favorite fic of mine which makes me feel very good!
I tag @welfycat , @queenitsy , @klaineharmony
