The Karnataka primary and secondary education department have only recently decided to introduce eggs for around 14.44 lakh students in government and government-aided schools in Bidar, Raichur, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Koppal, Bellary and Bijapur districts to tackle malnutrition. It is for students from Classes I to VIII, they will get 12 eggs, or bananas for vegetarians, every month, till the end of school year on March 30, 2022. The allowance of only 12 eggs in a month per child seems to have exposed the caste divide in the state too. According to news reports these districts have reported a high rate of anaemia and malnutrition. After the eggs were put in the menu, over 80 per cent of the students’ parents gave consent for it.

im. i need neutral non-extremist facts/takes/opinions on communalism in india. I get that this is a sensitive topic and extremism is a vicious cycle because extremism from one side only makes the other more defensive and less objective and vice versa but I'm getting tired of the destruction of nuance because i don't know what to believe anymore and it's giving me a headache because everyone, hindus, muslims and everyone else is ready to attack you for so much as questioning or trying to get unbiased, fact-checked information. the insane thing is everyone has an extremely believable narrative and it's impossible to fact-check it because no one's willing to be objective about it?? it's like admitting a huge huge proportion of hindus are islamophobic and that islamophobia is a real problem in this country is taboo for hindus speaking out against hinduphobia (the word in itself AND islamophobia, which incidentally are both extremely controversial terms because they're apparently not real and in fact hindutva/white liberal scams to promote their agenda respectively) because clearly the two ideas can't coexist. but also...it's impossible for muslims to admit a large proportion of muslims are hinduphobic as well?? that yes, they're minorities and definitely face oppression in this country, but there ARE hindus being persecuted both in india and around it in huge numbers and this is a problem that needs to be acknowledged too? that it's very difficult to critique or question even certain schools of islam (correct me if I'm wrong here because I'm genuinely trying my best to fact check everything, but the majority of muslims across the world believe it's a sin to renounce islam that warrants serious legal punishment, how closely religion is tied to governance leaving little room for non believers to be open about their beliefs in muslim-majority countries, etc) because it's literally undeniable that extremism IS a huge problem on both sides and there ARE a significant number of muslims who are religiously intolerant as has been proven over and over again and they need to be condemned as much??! and again I get why it's so hard to do this when everyone is so defensive because any accountability means getting pounced on and slandered from both sides. especially when you add the layer of cultural (and generally islamophobic; i.e. disguising intolerance for different cultures as moral activism e.g. the controversy of banning hijabs in karnataka because they're "backward" by colonial western or hindu standards) vs religious (generally radically islam; e.g. refusing to acknowledge that much like the english language, a significant part of the current muslim population in india is a souvenir of a history of colonialism and that does matter - forced conversions, intolerance, exploitation that wasn't entirely ethical - which doesn't reduce its present significance as an important religious demographic or make converting to it bad or inferior or imply it needs to be exterminated the same way prioritising english isn't but is important to acknowledge) colonialism. genuinely trying to educate myself as objectively as possible here and while I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get hate for this post from both sides...your nuanced thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated
although i will say id prefer to hear from desi people; westerners especially americans i understand your good intentions but our situation is very different from yours there's literally no way you can grasp the nuance here and i have heard enough of your takes over something that's not about you already:)

❄️ Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti, 14 April 1891
👀 EMBRACING DR. B. R. AMBEDKAR'S LEGACY: Lessons in Equality, Education, and Democracy
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti provides a profound opportunity for learning and reflection on the life and teachings of one of India's most influential figures.
Here's a detailed write-up on the key lessons we can glean from this important day:
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, a visionary leader and architect of the Indian Constitution, is celebrated annually on Ambedkar Jayanti. His legacy is a tapestry of struggle, enlightenment, and reform that continues to inspire millions across the globe. As we observe this day, we delve into the profound impact of his life's work and the timeless lessons it imparts.
Born into a society riddled with caste-based discrimination, Dr. Ambedkar's early life was marked by adversity. Yet, he rose above the constraints of his birth to become a symbol of resilience and determination. His fight against discrimination was not just a personal battle but a broader crusade for the rights of the oppressed. He championed the cause of the marginalized, advocating for equality and justice, and his efforts laid the groundwork for social reform in India.
Education was a cornerstone of Dr. Ambedkar's philosophy. He firmly believed that knowledge was the most potent tool for liberation from social and economic bondage. His pursuit of higher education, despite the barriers of his time, is a testament to his belief in the emancipatory power of learning. He encouraged the downtrodden to educate themselves, to break free from the chains of ignorance, and to claim their rightful place in society.
As the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar enshrined the principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity. His vision of democracy was inclusive, ensuring that every citizen had a voice in the governance of the nation. He understood that true democracy could not flourish without addressing the inequalities that plagued society. Thus, he worked to create a framework that would protect the rights of all, regardless of their background.
Social justice was the beacon that guided Dr. Ambedkar's journey. He sought to create a society where everyone had equal opportunities to thrive. His advocacy for the disenfranchised was unwavering, and he fought to dismantle the systemic barriers that hindered their progress. His dream was for a nation where social and economic disparities were addressed, and where every individual could contribute to the nation's prosperity.
The celebration of diversity was another key aspect of Dr. Ambedkar's teachings. He envisioned a society where differences were not just tolerated but embraced as a source of strength. He urged people to respect the dignity of every individual, to foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding. His call for harmony among diverse groups remains a guiding principle for building a cohesive society.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti is more than a remembrance; it is a call to action. It urges us to reflect on the enduring relevance of his teachings and to recommit ourselves to the ideals he championed. As we honor his memory, let us continue to fight against discrimination, value education, uphold democratic values, strive for social justice, and embrace the rich tapestry of diversity that defines our world. In doing so, we pay the highest tribute to Dr. Ambedkar's legacy, ensuring that his vision for a just and equitable society lives on.

Independence day message
▪️Dr. M. Ramachandran, Principal, Coorg public school and PU college, Gonikoppal, South Kodagu, Karnataka
On this auspicious day, we gather to celebrate the spirit of freedom, unity, and independence. It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by our forefathers and the countless individuals who have fought for our rights and liberties. Independence Day is not just a date on the calendar; it is a symbol of our collective resilience and determination as a nation.
Today, we remember the struggles endured by those who came before us, who fought for our sovereignty and the right to govern ourselves. We honor their memory by cherishing the values they fought to protect: justice, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. Our independence is a precious gift that we must appreciate, protect, and pass on to future generations.
As we celebrate our freedom, let us also remember the responsibilities that come with it. Our independence is not merely a privilege; it comes with the duty to uphold the principles of democracy, to respect the diversity of our nation, and to foster an inclusive society where every citizen has a voice. Let us strive to build a nation where opportunity is accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Independence Day is an occasion to come together as one, transcending our differences and celebrating the rich tapestry of our nation. It is a day to set aside our personal agendas and embrace the common values that bind us. Let us rise above divisions, foster unity, and work towards a future where every individual can flourish and contribute to the progress of our great nation.
On this Independence Day, let us express gratitude to our armed forces, who tirelessly protect our borders and ensure our safety. Their dedication and sacrifice allow us to enjoy the blessings of freedom. Let us also remember the unsung heroes, the healthcare workers, teachers, public servants, and countless others who contribute to the betterment of our society.
As we look ahead, let us renew our commitment to building a brighter future for our nation. Let us harness the power of education, innovation, and collective action to address the challenges we face. Together, we can create a society that is more just, more prosperous, and more inclusive.
Happy Independence Day! May the spirit of freedom continue to inspire us, and may our nation prosper in peace and harmony.

Chess – Most Preferred Activity class for Schools and Parents
Chess is a game that can be accessed easily by players of all ages and levels. When it comes to the practice of chess, offline games can be played with other students perhaps in school settings as extracurriculars or even when children play with friends or family members. Moreover, children may also opt for practice online with the aid of www.chesskid.com or www.chess.com where they may play with bots or other players who are at the same level as them.
Chess provides a scope of overall development which exceeds the chess board, and even the classroom. The royal game helps children to improve concentration, solve complex challenges, and think beyond the current move, all within a given time constraint.
This all-inclusive nature of chess is why it is catching up fast in getting integrated in school programs. More and more schools and academia are realizing Chess as an extremely valuable activity and a skill by itself. What sets chess apart from other after-school activities is the comprehensive way in which it provides an experience of skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, to name a few, which prepare individuals to face the world.
Case Studies on Chess in Schools
A research study in a New York City school chess program has found evidence that students who play chess have shown not only better scores in mathematics but have also performed better than the average student at a district- as well as country-level in terms of reading scores.
Speaking specifically of mathematical capacity in students, another study conducted in Denmark has shown that the introduction of chess instruction in math lectures resulted in increased math scores, improved mathematical ability and reasoning, seemingly related directly to the instruction of chess lessons.
There are several other similar case-studies all over the world finding Chess – as an extracurricular activity does impact positively in Children’s academic growth.

In the above video, the teacher says, “Chess trains logical thinking. It teaches how to make decisions, trains memory, strengthens will power, motivates children to win and teaches them how to deal with defeat. It’s the only school subject that can do all this.”
Schools adopting Chess
This year in the month of March, European Parliament had declared that the introduction of the programme ‘Chess in School’ in the educational systems of the European Union.
Aligning with this declaration, on May 19, 2022, The Ministry of Education in Georgia has announced that starting with the next school year, chess will be a mandatory subject for first-grade students in the country. It will apply to all the 2,200 schools in Georgia, both public and private.
In India, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced that his government will promote chess at schools and colleges. During the Olympiad, Mr. Patnaik while receiving the ceremonial Olympiad torch, he had said “We also organized the World Junior Chess Championship in 2016. We intend to further strengthen the game across the state, especially in schools. Chess is a game that can be easily taught as not much infrastructure or equipment is required. We will create competitions at school and college levels regularly and promote the game in a professional manner”.
Taking inspiration from the Chess Olympiad, the Karnataka state government has issued a notification to introduce the game of Chess to the students. Every school has a library hour and they are now being put to good use. Chess has been introduced in the digital libraries – which is being utilized by many rural kids.
Parents prefer Chess
Not only schools, parents of young children also see Chess as a very important life-skill. One of our proud parents mentioned in Google reviews:
I started with Saswath Academy for my son during the first lockdown. I was desperate to see him engaged and active during those tough times. I’m glad I took the right decision. The academy is very professional and well managed. They take great care and patience in engaging with the kids, all the faculties/coaches are knowledgeable and abreast of the latest teaching techniques; and best part is, they know how to handle kids. My 7 year son looks forward to his chess and coding classes every week. I just have one regret, I din’t have access to a class like this during my childhood
At Saswath Academy, we have been catering to over 1000+ students since 2020 and we have seen first-hand on how parents see the difference in their kids.  You may take a free demo class and see for yourself.
