You know what? That one line from that Phantom Liberty ending where V can call Johnny a "big ol' softie"? They're right. They're absolutely right.

Johnny is a softie. He goofs off on multiple occasions in V's field of view despite knowing that nobody can see him, probably to his own and V's amusement. He screams on the rollercoaster and grins like crazy at V. He adores Nibbles. He wanted to check on Kerry when he heard that he was suicidal. He finally took Rogue on that car cinema date and can flirt with her in a goofy way straight out of his favorite "Bushido" movies. He has fun on the reunion concert and gives Kerry his DeLuze Orphean as a goodbye gift. He narrates that one quest like a noir narrator just to mess with V. He understands Barry's grief over his tortoise. He's respectful when watching Joshua's crucifiction. He's nice to Spider Murphy and calls her "Spider". He sheepishly apologizes to Alt in "The Sun" ending. He puffs up his chest when Denny says she misses him. He's fuming over the kids in "Talent Academy" being treated like products, probably because it reminds him of how he was treated in the military. He feels for Solomon Reed because he sees himself in him. He feels for Songbird because her circumstances remind him of V's.

And speaking of, he really loves V. He just loves them so much; He's always on watch for any danger and does his best to give them advice. He promises that he will do everything he can to cure them. He will encourage them to take a break if they're feeling sick. He will attempt the most dangerous stunts to get them to Mikoshi. He promises V to let them wipe him from the Relic and he keeps that promise. He will realize that they're his only loved one left and will ask for the last chance, and when he gets it he does everything he can to make them proud and happy. He accepts their decision no matter what it is, because it's their body and life. His worst fear is getting to live again, but without his friend/partner/soulmate/beloved (depending on interpretation) with him. He's proud to be able to call himself V's friend. He's proud of them. He's sad that he won't be able to see how V will change. He choses to stay calm and positive before he will be innevitably killed so that his beloved V will live to keep them calm and comfort them.

That whole hardass, asshole act? It's a ruse, it's a front, it's a persona he had to put on due to bad childhood, PTSD from being drafted as a teenager, seeing other teenagers die horribly around him, losing his limb and being branded with the Arasaka logo he did his best to scratch out and being tossed into a rockstar life of drinking, drugs and fans when he was likely not much older.

He might fight it, but he will never be the detached, emotionless action hero he wants to be, because that's not at all who he is! I think that his slight grin when V says it is one of relief, that he was able to show his most vulnerable, tender and gentle side to the one person he holds dear and not be punished for it, playfully teased but with clear sympathy on V's part. After decades of struggle with who he is being so different from who he wants to be, he can finally be seen for who he is, and who he would be if his life went oh so differently.

2077, November

"Heeey... All good? What're you doing out here, so early?"

"Couldn't sleep... Wanted to watch the sun rise."

"Well, here I am!"

2077 was a hell of a year. It left its marks, mental and physical, trauma and scars alike, memories and lack thereof. A year ago Vince was working at Arasaka, desperate to stay in the corporate world despite it slowly destroying him from the inside out. A year later Arasaka is only a shadow of it former self - and in a way Vince felt like a shadow, too.

Six months had been Alt's prognosis, at most... then he'd die. For good this time. Vince knew the drill. But he also knew he would try everything in his power, utilize all means possible and necessary... Because yes, 2077 had been one hell of a year, of loss, despair, betrayal and pain... But also of hope, trust, friendship and love, and connections, however unlikely they may have seemed.

The road ahead is still long, and it will be far from easy. But he is at peace knowing he won't be walking it alone.

Aaand the series is complete! ;A; Ending it on a somewhat bittersweet note with a few of more pictures this time cause look at them looking at each other ;___;

Vince has always been a deeply lonely person trying to find his place and purpose - as you'll surely have gathered reading along this far. By 2077 he finally finds his people, real friends in the most unlikely places, that he cares about and that care about him. And after how badly his previous relationship with his Arasaka-coworker Shou ended, he wouldn't have expected to get another shot at love, too. I definitely feel like he found a soulmate in Kerry, very scared in the beginning that his feelings for him were only brought on because of Johnny, and should he get rid of Johnny he'd also lose the connection to Kerry. He didn't though, thankfully. Vice versa, Kerry found someone who really understands his loneliness and struggles and takes them seriously. They really match very well on many levels and bring out the best in the other (on most days at least :P), something I neither planned for nor expected, and probably why I'm so obsessed with them at the moment XD They really are each other's sun, driving away shadows and doubts, a light in the darkness.

But yeah, Vince has a lot to lose really, and together with Kerry and everyone else they try and find a way to solve the Relic-problem so now that he found his place and people he can stay with them, live the balance of quiet and exciting life he deserves and always wished for.

The scars I gave him here (and damn, it hurt me to make them 😭) are not 100% canon yet... I'm gonna explore and explain what they are and how he got them in my post-ending fic soon-ish.

But yeah... V gets his happily ever after with his loved ones, in one way or another, and CDPR can take my headcanons from my cold dead hands xDD No but really, I get it. In a world like Cyberpunk there's no such thing as a sunshine-and-rainbows happy ending with world peace and all... and even mine is gonna come at a certain cost. But if anyone, V deserves some peace and love after that shitshow :D

That being said:

Before and after! The scars are drawn on, and I used the relief layer effect in Photohsop to give them some dimension. Was really a matter of playing around with colors and layer modes to make them somewhat convincing looking, but I'm really liking the result a lot!

Once again it gets me how different Vince looks without his iconic hair and makeup 😭 Believe me, he had a really really hard time when he was told "we gotta shave your head for this procedure" cause throughout his life his hair has been a really important part of his self-expression. From dyeing it blond as a teen to rebel against his parents, to going completely wild afterwards, conforming to Arasaka, then slowly finding himself again... With everything gone he felt like yet another part of him was gone and yeah... wasn't a good time, that time in late 2077.

If you've read along all the way: thanks so much!! I hope you enjoyed this series as much as I enjoyed creating it and sharing a bit more about Vince's background and how he became who he is. When I'm done writing my post-ending fic I might go back to writing and sharing his background story fic, detailing everything from this series a bit more, and you'll get to know some of the people I only mentioned in passing (his mother, his first real boyfriend, his coworkers, etc.) a bit better, too.

during the events of the game there are very few people who even know about johnny and v doesn't talk about her feelings towards the engram. rogue and kerry probably suspect that there is more going on but she never confirms it.

during au: say yes to heaven (johnny gets a body au) the two are openly dating but the world forgot about johnny silverhand and he doesn't have his prosthetic anymore so to people who don't know their backstory he's just a regular guy.

when he returns to nc after going soul searching (haha) he actually has to go look for her since she moved out of the megabuilding apartment and they were strictly no-contact. kerry points him to where she currently resides (northside apartment + her motorcycle shop) so i would say he's a supporter. v was very good at making almost no friends during their time together so there is no one else. (this sounds a bit sad but it really isn't)

her brother vincent is a bit on the fence about her dating her aneurism but he's glad she found a genuine lover.

i made a post some time ago about mundane things johnny and v do during the time they share a body. (also apparently my proper blog page is back now and christ alive do i need to update it lmao)

obviously during the game they do everything together, johnny is annoyed at those mundane things at first and frankly v is annoyed by shit like having to do laundry as well, not because of his presence but because she could do without it.

in au: say yes to heaven they spend some time being a boring couple, getting takeouts, sleeping in, going to the movies etc. eventually johnny suggests v should also leave nc for a bit. to everybody's surprise she actually she agrees (she's finally healing) and they go on a roadtrip! (we love that trope)

viv! (@bishicat hello bestie <;3) after her and v reconnected she's shocked and happy to hear she's seeing someone! v tells her to calm down about it since it's not that serious and she keeps teasing her about it.

viv also thinks its funny she's dating an ex-corpo, after all their friendship literally (temporarily) ended when she started working for arasaka. to v it's entirely different because muamar made the choice to leave while she was kicked out.

so let's unpack this (haha) as i mentioned before v wants him but she also doesn't. after her and viv get johnny his body back the three of them go on a roadtrip (i told you we love this trope) and muamar joins them! it was viv's idea and v was happy to have him along since the idea third-wheeling for weeks on end gave her hives.

she's actually happy for the first time in her life and they are a real, genuine couple. they even say "i love you", if you can believe it.

but because this cannot last (i cant stand the idea of her being happy leave me alone) once the trip comes to and end so does their relationship. i like comparing it to a dying pet, you know they are dying so you take them on a last trip to the park.

she encourages him pursue his passion for cars. with v being a lowkey (motorcycle) mechanic herself, they bicker over cars vs. motorcycles a lot but also bond over their shared interest.

Vince would blush and smile, and agree. Kerry would probably laugh at first, but then think about it for a moment and smirk in agreement.

They did. Vince offered coffee at Caliente's for them to get to know one another after Kerry texted him after the Samurai reunion. Both ended up there one day and Kerry reminded him of the date, so it became an impromptu date where they talked till closing.

I would say they're even in that department. They both seem to really know what the other needs in a moment of stress or emotional distress. For both, they like to be held, touched and just told things will be okay.

Kerry's no morning person. Vince is, but Kerry usually gets him to go back into bed for a couple more minutes. Then he does it again and again until Vince has to drag them both into the shower because they've been in bed for way longer than they should have been. lol

All hail the headcanon queen (just kidding.. or am I? I do like to read yours haha) ((I have an odd sense of humour))

So I have a crazy (???) theory. It started with a random thought that I entertained; the guitar you steal from the psychofan actually goes back to Kerry. My thought was mostly “wouldn’t it be funny if it suddenly hung on the wall and V goes ‘wtf.. I could have brought it here instead of to that drop off point if I had known’”.

That was until I noticed something (no it doesn’t actually end up on the wall, but..!): in one of the mails on Kerry’s laptop, he asks someone to find a particular guitar. By the sound of it, he used to own a particular model but seemingly no longer does. Kerry says that “he doesn’t care if it’s the same one, just get one of (model name)”. What if the person who had to look for that guitar contacted a fixer (Padre), and V ends up fetching the guitar. Unfortunately, it’s only “Kerry’s guitar” if scanned. Yet, I like to think that it might be the one he was looking for.

with the guitar and V going to steal it back for Padre, i’ve always thought about where it actually ended up, because i know that Padre doesn’t actually say who the guitar’s going to (i think he just calls them his client, right?) but in my head i’ve always reasoned that he wouldn’t say he had Kerry has a client because Padre’s a man of honor and values confidentiality especially with his more high profile clients (they all must have some) but in actual fact the guitar did end up going back to Kerry. 

like,  i like to imagine that the guitar does end up back where it should be (with Kerry obvi) and V notices it at some point, on the wall or wherever, and is like wait, hold on, that’s... i stole that??? i broke into a crazy man’s house who tried to steal your face and listened to johnny bitching for going on fifteen minutes because he wasn’t the favourite so i could steal this guitar and now you’re telling me this is your guitar????? 

mostly because in some weird longwinded way, there’s the whole conversation about “fate” that we can then go into but i won’t because i’ll be here talking about it all day and how it just always ends up revolving back around Kerry and V somehow. but it’s there. fate. i think it all the time with the two of them.

similar to how i’ve headcanon’d that the reason V owns Eurodyne merchandise is because Kerry was always destined to be in V’s life in some way, shape or form. from the branding on a dirty vest or sick biker jacket to physically being in his life as the man he loves. he was always meant to end up there, with him, and vice versa.

Having some Johnny and Vax thoughts🌑

Johnny always holds Vax’s face with his flesh hand, but Vax will pull his chrome hand up so Johnny is fully holding his face.

They both have tattoos for each other, more artistic and pretty on their hips, a play on ‘attached at the hip’ and it’s on the sides they always sit on at the Afterlife

Johnny sleeps on top of Vax, literally. Vax sleeps on his belly and Johnny lays over him and sleeps like that with his face buried in his shoulder. Is it comfortable? Who cares, Johnny needs to be touching V in every way possible

Johnny is still upset Vax went to Arasaka to get the relic out, but has seen and witnessed the trauma that came from the station and never brings it up, V is alive and in his own body and that’s all that matters

They are both extremely attached to Kerry. Their emotions had melted together while Johnny was in V’s head, and there was no mistaking they both had their own feelings for him. But there is no him and us with them, it’s always all of them together.

Johnny becomes a merc, and he’s actually pretty decent. He and Vax are not allowed on Jobs together though.

Johnny always tried to touch and comfort V while he was still a relic, but would always talk to him to at the very least distract him.

V considered giving Johnny his body, just may as well do it. Johnny did not like that idea whatsoever, and hated whenever V tried to bring it up

In the six months leading to his (apparently) imminent death, V is crudely afraid.

He's always been good at compartmentalizing, has been keeping himself in check with a cool, smooth, sharp exterior since he started building his first ounces of street cred. He has been doing it with his childhood memories, has been doing it with his former job at the Moxes, and all along his quest for the Major Leagues, because if you don't convince yourself you'll make it, you never will.

The aftermath of Johnny doing his impromptu Smasher investigation -of waking up with his skull cracking open, with his body burning, stinking of premature death-, had left him terrorized. Brain, body, full organism cracking and aching as if V's consciousness being forced upon it again was just plain wrong; bile, alcohol, sickness, all merging to V waking up afraid. Afraid, cause Johnny had betrayed his trust for a taste of freedom, of life, and fuck, he understood it, V did, but the betrayal had him seizing, cowering, panicking. The overwhelming fear of having an entity in your head, made to control your body, proving to be more than ready to do what it wants with your life. Uncaring, selfish. And V was left witness to it, to its deflections and bitterness, all while he was pucking his guts and stomach in a motel's bathroom.

Then the oil fields happen.

Johnny is forced to face the present as a shadow of a past long gone. V gets to see him be more human than ever before. It gets both back with their feet on the ground, with their fears and regrets and hearts thrown at each other faces, with, finally, both reaching out and finding they are not so alone, in the end. Despite Johnny and all the people he hurt or pushed away, despite V and his fear of attachment. From there, it's easy to step in the same direction. Johnny looks at him in the eyes and promises not to ruin his second chance, and V is crazy and burning, and desperate enough for this connection to uphold, for Johnny's grit to burn all this fear away, that "Yeah, I'll call her" comes out of his lips, and when he feels Johnny's relief, the longing, the sadness, the story it brings with it, he knows this is it.

[As Johnny comes to realize the world has moved on -Rogue, Kerry, even Smasher-, as he devotes himself to V, to his survival, V finds confort in trying to give meaning to what may be his last occasions. He wants to give Smasher the end he deserves, while Johnny coaxes him away, as gentle as he knows how to be but urgent, because it doesn't matter anymore. Revenge for a dead man. Eh. V's life matters. It's all that matters. He won't screw this up.]

Without Johnny, the fear comes knocking again. It comes with the sentence of six last months to live, with their promises -Johnny's to save him, V's to keep fighting- heavy on his shoulders.

And V is so good at deflecting. Without a voice in his head to call on his bullshit he may even start believing it himself. He is smooth, cool and sharp, and kingship comes right to him. Kerry and him have issues communicating, because Kerry doesn't push, his own defence mechanisms and story and fears leading him to lavish his input in love and attentions and good times, in a present they can both enjoy, and V's walls are smooth, cool, sharp, too hard to climb.

Judy could have done it, would have come smashing, wouldn't have let things be just because, but she's far, and scared too, in her own ways.

V hides it all, maybe afraid of what will come out if he lets it. He doesn't really knows himself anymore, so full of that ticking, that burning, all that death inside his lungs, heart, stomach. What bile would come out if he lets it? How much of it would he recognize, and how much of it would be that new V-Johnny part of him, angry, reckless, hurting. He carries the ghost of Johnny in his bones, unable to let go because he's not quite sure what he is without it, if he can still pretend he knows what he is doing, can still pretend he's Night City's new legend.

It's easy to shut down Kerry's worried looks with kisses that last until morning, easy to fight and then make up with the excuse of not losing time, easy to make up a plan and finally feed the pent-up urgency with his last fucking gig. The Sun. To die or be reborn.

(The voice inside his head, the one that doesn't speak anymore, offers warning tales about not pushing people away when you need them. Of cherishing what he has, instead of letting the fear to lose them consume him. But with weeks left to live, V isn't sure he can't afford to listen.)

If you had told one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think?

V is not a very spiritual person, but he is actually not that opposed to the concept of soulmates. He considered Jackie his soulmate on a platonic level, because they instantly got along despite everything speaking against it at the time. Their friendship was the longest-lasting friendship V ever managed to maintain, and that with ease. Had someone told him, prior to meeting Kerry, that he was his soulmate, he probably would have laughed, because, what were the chances? But he wouldn't have brushed it off completely, 'cause, you never know...

Kerry, prior to meeting V, is at a point in his life where he struggles so much with forming or maintaining meaningful connections with others, he'd probably say it would need a soulmate to be able to bear him in his state. Simultaneously though he'd realize how absurd the mere thought is. The amount of times past lovers tried to convince him that they're soulmates, only to leave him in the end anyway, and usually not amicably, spoiled the mere concept for him. And a random low-life merc he's never heard of is supposed to be his perfect match? No chance.

What kind of nicknames do they call each other?

They are very basic with their nicknames actually, usually sticking to "babe", a little further down the road occasionally "love". Kerry is a little bit more creative, sometimes teasingly affectionate calling V "kid" as well. He is also the first and for a long time the only one allowed to call V "Vince", instead of the full "Vincent". Since V picked his name for himself, he always insisted on being called exactly that... until Jackie came up with "V" and he started to call himself that, too, although only around people he didn't know or trusted. When Kerry eventually asked him about what "V" stands for, V made him guess. Kerry's first (not entirely serious) answer was "Vlad the Impaler", which has evolved into a running gag and nickname between them, too. When he correctly guessed "Vincent" Kerry asked if "Vince" would be okay, because Vincent "sounds so serious". V had no objections.

Who remembers the little things?

Overall V is a little less scatter-brained most of the time. He's good at remembering appointments, birthdays, just where certain items physically are in the house, all the organizational stuff really. He also takes note of what Kerry likes to eat and drink at restaurants or bars they go to. He instantly memorized how he liked his coffee the first time they were at Caliente's. He's good at being mindful of all these little quality-of-life things to surprise Kerry with now and then.

Kerry is a lot more disorganized, really can't wrap his head around how V manages to keep track of everything the way he does. But he for example still greatly enjoys listening to V's rants about work and annoying clients, often remembering details about specific stories that V might have actually forgotten already. He loves to be able to give V the feeling that he's being heard and listened to, because he knows himself how much is sucks when you're not.

since i said i was gonna hold back in my last reblog im gonna continue here

this thing keeps happening where inbetween my first playthrough and my actual "canon" playthrough with my actual v i came up with headcanons and ideas that JUST fit a bit too well for it to be a coincidence one of them being v and her failed band

i have somewhat briefly talked about the band before (they finally have a name, it's "rotten" very original i know but thats sort of the point) and basically v crashed the whole thing into a telephone pole because she refused to sign up with a label or anything like that

now for the longest time i decided that v was never gonna mention that to anyone (mostly because i hadnt fully warmed up to the idea myself) but when i replayed the ballad of buck reavers i was like shit this is the perfect opportunity for v to atleast tell johnny about it (yeah he might know already but shhh) and v was gonna be SO SMUG about it like "haha im the real punk rocker of the two of us fuck those cunty corpos" and then i read that last reblog and im like LMAO THEY TRULY ARE SOULMATES (once again this isnt shocking in the slightest i just think its funny)

im still on the fence of how she tells kerry about the band, right now either johnny or vincent tells him and v has to face kerrys wrath (funny) or they have a nice convo about it at some point (wholesome)

Obsessed with the fact that Kerry pretty much fell in love with V the second he saw him, writes songs about their future together, straight up promises to be with him untill he dies and pretty much considers him his soulmate, but he probably doesn’t know what V’s favorite color is.
