absolutely unhinged how the sitcom world isn't kevin-specific generated but instead generated by abusers (i.e. allison's mother). the sitcom world is a coping mechanism to help the characters compartmentalize the abuse they endure. and it's so fitting for the sitcom world to frame the abused characters as side characters, too, because the people who trigger the sitcom world are narcissists. the narcissists feel like the world revolves around them, like they are the main character, so of course they treat their victims as secondary

Now they have to—get to—live the rest of their lives without a laugh track or “woos” or “awws,” either in the studio or in our homes.

Patty asked where this all ends once and the answer is here. The stage will never reset again. They keep going. They will or they won’t. They’ll grow or they won’t. But when they do it’s just for themselves now, no one else is watching.
