After my modest success with the 1/64 scale shipping pallets, I was thinking about what else I could try to make, and settled on a Jersey barrier and an arcade cabinet. Turned out pretty well.
These are the result of hours of work over a couple evenings. Desktop hobby plotter-cut cardstock & 0.4 mm sheet styrene parts. And Tamiya putty, solvent glue, superglue & acrylic paint.
The Jersey barriers were extremely fiddly and difficult to assemble, though if I make more, I think I've figured out a simpler way to do them.
The arcade cabinet was slightly easier, but seems bare without any graphics or colors on it.
I've realized it's very helpful to put a tiny magnet in the base of these things, to hold them to a stick while painting.

I love K Rool! I grew up playing the SNES Donkey Kong Country games - absolutely top tier games 🙏
I also love using K Rool on Smash Bros Ultimate!

Something interesting I thought about watching Ralph Breaks the Internet the other day; when Ralph goes to BuzzzTube in order to get views to earn money, some of the viewers comment on Ralph being that old arcade character. I questioned this originally because you'd think Wreck-It Ralph would have gone on to make a name fir himself like Donkey Kong did, but instead the movie makes it sound like Ralph only ever had the one arcade game and that's it.
Tumblr media
After thinking it over it occurred to me: I don't think most people (adults especially) know that Donkey Kong is a franchise, if kids went and asked their parents if they know who Donkey Kong is, chances are they will just say he's that arcade game gorilla. So in a way the movie is staying true to how most people forget that Donkey Kong went on to make a name for himself in his own series of games as well as guest appearances in other games like Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros.
Tumblr media
That said, it would have still been cool if the movie did add in lore to their games suggesting they went down a similar path that Mario did; Felix stars in his own series of games similar to Mario Bros. Mario World, Mario 64, etc. While Ralph went on to do the Country games, Sugar Rush became Mario Kart and maybe the characters actually made crossovers with other games. (And I don't just mean Kingdom Hearts)

listen. i know we can all agree to the fact that a well over 10 year old game with 64 packs and a total cost of $1,044.37 needs to be quarantined, gassed up, and burned to ground.

The sleepy.
This is based on a DK64 cutscene. Some of that game's cutscenes make zero sense but sometimes you get stuff like the tired sleepy K. Rool napping with his Klaptrap so, it's worth watching them.

If Mario games were Kirby games:
Super Mario Dream Land: The gluttonous Princess Peach has stolen all the food in the mushroom kingdom. It’s up to Mario to stop her.
Super Mario Adventure: Princess Peach has broken the sticker comment to stop Satan himself from being summoned. Mario can’t dream though, so he’s willing to take the risk and stop Princess Peach. New to this game are power-ups.
Super Mario Dream Land 2: Princess Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser Jr. Mario has three different Yoshis to help him on his journey. One is ground-based and is absolutely useless. The second one is sky-based and is OP as heck. The third one is water-based and is the only one who’s balanced. All three Yoshis can enhance Mario’s power-ups.
Super Mario Dreamland 3: Princess Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser. 2 player co-op is introduced with Luigi. He’s more or less a green Mario, but this is the hardest Super Mario game by far, so you’ll need all the help you can get. Additionally, there are now 6 Yoshis to control, and thankfully the power disparity between the 3 new Yoshis isn’t as drastic as the returning ones.
Super Mario 64 The Crystal Coconut: The tiki tak tribe has invaded DK island and Diddy Kong accidentally broke the crystal coconut. It is up to Mario to help Diddy Kong collect the crystal coconut’s pieces. Mario can also combine power ups in this game. Along the way, Mario will be helped by one of three characters per stage. Princess Peach is now fully playable and can smack enemies with her parasol, Koopa Troopa creates wacky machines to get Mario from one place to the next, and Donkey Kong gives Mario maximum bananas to heal as well as paint pictures to help him on puzzles. Make sure to collect every piece of the crystal coconut though, or else King K Rool will stare at you with an evil grin.
Super Mario Squeak Squad: Mario’s cake got stolen! Mario assumes Princess Peach stole the cake, but it turns out it was Wario! Now Mario must find as much treasure as he can containing power-up upgrades, increased maximum health, or palette swap spray paint. Every time Mario collects a large treasure chest, Wario will chase Mario down, hoping to steal the chest from him.
Super Mario And The Amazing Mirror: Waluigi trapped Princess Daisy in the mirror world. Waluigi also split Mario into 4 different colored Marios. It is up to Mario to go through 8.5 convoluted poorly-designed metroidvanias to stop Waluigi and rescue Daisy.
Super Mario Returns To Dreamland: In this 4 player co-op game, Mario joins Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and for some reason a toad with a bandana to get the parts to re-assemble a ship. At the end of about half of the stages, Mario becomes God himself after killing an enemy with a star on it, while the other three players just sort of follow along watching Mario wreak havoc.
Super Mario Star Allies: All your favorite characters return in this game that is hated for being 30fps and nothing else, including Yoshi, Yoshi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, and Wario. For whatever reason, only Wario can be played individually. If you want to play as just one Yoshi or just Donkey Kong, too bad so sad. Although the Yoshis and Wario play like an absolute dream and the level design complements their abilities beautifully, that could not be further from the truth for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Whether you love or don’t care for this game largely depends on how much fan service you recognize.
