my engagement theories: 😁
1. believable.. they got engaged over the holidays 2021. i’m more of a fan of a new years moment, but still, the end of the year seems good to me. the main thing that makes me believe this is their energy in 2021 and so far in 2022 feel different.
there really seems to be a direction that they’re going together and they’re fully embracing it. it’s strong, which is why I think more people are getting in on the engagement talks verses the end of last year. you can just feel the shift if you pay attention.
there are others who I think have more evidence for this theory. but december just screams so loudly for them to me. I don’t know why. but it’s a good feeling. makes me excited. 🥹
2. believable but I don’t want to believe it.. they just aren’t engaged yet. now. they’re moving very different. like an engaged couple. but this could just be how they are! 🤷🏽‍♀️
in my mind, there’s no way zendaya “my man, my man, my man” coleman wouldn’t wear thee ring, left hand ring finger. no ambiguity. she would be that girl to make sure you see the thing at every opportunity. just like she is with all the other jewelry tom gets her. she couldn’t wait to put queen piaget back on!
Tumblr media
picture the mirror selfie, opposite hand. picture the videos of z running her hands through her hair but add thee ring. she would be that girl! $pider-man, thank you very much!
if the yellow ring is thee ring, at this point I think she would’ve switched hands by now. or if there’s that mysterious ring she was wearing at the wedding, and that’s thee ring. how has she not slipped up with it on? she just never/rarely wears it? 🙁
this whole theory is way too rational for me. but it still leaves me looking towards december, so here’s a side theory. this big break that tom has been anticipating for the longest time. tom making a point to address that he will be on social media break again. zendaya likely will be done with dune by december (maybe?) and no plans we know for the end of the year otherwise. they could get away together, just them and the engagement could happen then. and it could be a short one so the wedding would be in the beginning of 2023. (I know that’s bridging into a whole separate theory!)
the next few months and the beginning of next year could potentially be a whirlwind.
3. very oc i have no idea how I got here it’s fun and ridiculous.. they are engaged with paper rings. before you leave hear me out! in grey’s anatomy the main couple derek and meredith were supposed to get married but couldn’t get out of surgeries so they wrote their vows had the wedding on a post it. they said they were married the post it was their moment! to them it was real and that’s what matters!
let me set the scene! t+z in atlanta - because in my mind this is the time it makes the most sense - they’re together in their bubble. just loving. and maybe there’s just this quiet moment. someone just says something like “I love you. let’s get married.” there’s a straw wrapper, rip it in half, then twist the halves into rings. so they’re engaged and they believe it, embrace it.
which leads us to that summer reunion ...
Tumblr media
I could copy paste all the lyrics to crazy in love. no feelings stopped. they’re doing this. they are corny enough for this (I say this lovingly). zendaya would have those paper rings safe in a box on her dresser in la. they don’t have to worry about thee rings since they’re designing them together and won’t put them on until their wedding in december in the words of taylor swift I like shiny things, but i’d marry you with paper rings ♡
I jump between theory 1 and 2 the most but I love the oc crack of 3 and I will be a happy mess in december🤭🤍💍

I need to post something somewhere about how I’m finally, FINALLY, able to play Dragon Age 2 again after not having been able to play it for roughly 4 years.
Tumblr media
I need to scream out that I truly missed this game more than I realized— it being the only one out of the current DA games that I wasn’t able to play. One reason was because I was forced to uplift my life and toxic family members put all of mine and my husband’s things in storage while he was still in the hospital. I didn’t get my PS3 back until like 2021.
Before I got the PS3 back, I somehow (by a miracle perhaps) got my laptop, working beautifully, I might add. So I tried to get DA2 on EA Origins. Screen kept going black. Couldn’t do ANYTHING and I’m pretty sure I cried.
Finally got my PS3 back, but my toxic family didn’t put any of the cords with the electronics they belonged to, so I wasn’t able to even start up the PS3 until 2022. Started it up and put in DA2 aaaand the sound on the PS3 stopped working. I couldn’t hear the epic beginning of Cassandra interrogating Varric!!
Needless to say, I was giving up hope on ever playing Hawke again…
Then I find out from a friend that DA2 was on Steam… had been there since 2020?! Steam works beautifully on my laptop, so I had hope!
Hubby and I haven’t been doing great financially… so I held off getting it, even though I wanted it sooooo badly…
My in-laws gave me birthday money and when we were at a place to splurge without it hurting us terribly… I got DA2 on steam and hoped with all my being that it would work.
It works and I can play it again 😭 I can romance Anders again and just have fun again!!
I have a couple of mods— I couldn’t get hair mods to work and mostly got mods to fix dialogues with characters and got the cosmetic mod to fix the elves weird skin tones (and Merrill looks like her DAO version!! She’s so cuuuute!)
I haven’t gotten to the part where Alistair shows up yet, because I have a mod that makes him look closer to DAO version— I’m so excited to see him. He’s a Grey Warden, so I gotta wait until the end of Act 2.
Tried an Anders mod because I missed his ponytail, buuuut it needed another mod (that for the life of me I couldn’t get to work) to make it work, so I scrapped that mod.
I almost recreated Xena Hawke, my very first Hawke, who was a rogue, romanced Anders, and Bethany became a Grey Warden. But, I had another character in mind…
I created Vanessa Hawke, who is based on my OC that’s in DA2, but isn’t Hawke. I basically created the character she would have created while playing the game (yes, this is a Modern Girl in Thedas fanfic, I started it back in like 2018, judge all you want 🤣) and now I’m hyper fixating on DA2.
I already am making plans to play Default Mage Garrett Hawke to go along with the world Vanessa finds herself in. The world state for DAO will be the Martyr one— because it has aspects I like versus the Hero of Ferelden world state.
Atrina Tabris is in no way connected to the DA2 fanfic. It’s easier this way and I don’t have to find a way to tie Vanessa and Atrina & Wanda together.
Vanessa actually retains all of her memories (as of currently) of the modern world. She, however, doesn’t have a photographic memory, so after some time has passed (because DA2 takes place over the course of I think 10 years), she won’t immediately remember that, say… Leandra’s fate in DA2 or things like that.
The story is all over the place right now, but it’s my comfort at the moment when I get a second to breathe, I play/write/draw.
I know I still have commissions to finish/start, and I’m so sorry for the wait. My brain is going all over the place currently so I’m trying to structure my time better.
I had restarted Atrina in DAO, because she gets the sweet story with Alistair, but apparently I want the heartache of Anders in DA2 at the moment. And I’m jumping between my DAO and DA2 fanfics…
I got so burned out on Dragon Age in 2019… but here I go again, deep diving 😅 hopefully this time I’ve learned to pace myself… hopefully

This is pretty typical, who else would end up like this? Spending Christmas Eve at the hospital because you fell down the stairs while being wine drunk, spending the evening alone since you just threw out a week ago your cheating boyfriend. You were supposed to spend tonight at Martin’s parents so you could spend the 25th with your family. It was all planned and you were looking forward to it… right until you found another woman’s nudes in his phone and at first he denied it, but he couldn’t lie enough to convince you of his innocence so he gave up and admitted everything.
You didn’t have the courage to tell your family, so they are still expecting the two of you to show up tomorrow, that’s why you chose to chug a whole bottle of white wine and get drunk. It would have been fine, crying some, watching a movie and falling into bed either ridiculously early or at sunrise. But you fucked it up. Your apartment has this awfully steep set of stairs leading up to the bedroom and your fuzzy socks slipped at the top of the stairs, you flew right down, screaming for your life as you fell face down and hit your head pretty badly.
Your neighbor, Amir heard you and came to your rescue. He was the one who told you to get your head checked, you could easily have a concussion. At first you tried to play it off, but you could barely get up from the floor without the world spinning around you. Being the angel that he is, he drove you to the hospital and told you to call him if you need a ride home, but you won’t bother him any longer so you’ll probably call an Uber to get home.
So now you’re sitting in the waiting area of the emergency room as part of the biggest holiday losers in the city. There are burnt hands and faces, sprained ankles and there’s a whole ass family and from where you’re sitting two of them had a fight at dinner and someone’s nose broke.
And here you are, trying not to fall off the chair because your head is still spinning. You’ve been here for an hour, at this point you’ve memorized the names of all the nurses on duty: Brenda, Stella, Lucy and Norah.
Your phone buzzes in your pocket and pulling out you see your sister’s name on the screen. She sent a photo into the family group chat, a nice picture of her and her husband with their daughter who just turned one. They look so damn cute and disgustingly happy. You’d be fine with it normally, but not after what Martin did to you, turning you into a bitter single woman right before the holidays.
“Cool, can’t wait for their pity to hit me tomorrow,” you growl, sending a heart emoji as your answer before locking the phone and putting it away.
“Y/N Y/L/N?” Nurse Stella calls out and you get so excited it’s finally your turn that you jump to your feet, but that’s the worst you could do.
“Woah,” you breathe out as the whole room starts spinning and you feel like you’re gonna lose balance any moment. You hear the nurses call out to each other when they see you and before you could meet the ground for a second time tonight, two strong arms catch you.
“Easy, Miss Y/L/N,” a smooth, husky voice with a thick British accent speaks up and it definitely belongs to the arms that are holding you.
It takes a few moments to clear your vision and see the ridiculously handsome man helping you up to your feet. He is wearing blue scrubs and a white coat with a nametag on it that reads “Dr. Styles”.
“Um, thanks,” you mumble with a nervous laugh as you’re standing on your feet again.
“Alright, let’s get you in there to have a look at you,” he hums gently, one hand on your waist as he holds yours with his other, walking you into the first room in the hallway. He takes you to a chair next to his desk, helping you sit before his hands let go of you.
He looks unfairly sexy, doctors shouldn’t be this hot, because how can you focus on anything about your health when all you can think about is him? He looks a bit older than you, but not more than thirty-five probably, a gentle stubble adorning his face that has a friendly smile stretched across his face.
“I’m Dr. Harry Styles, I’ll be making sure you’re alright tonight,” he smiles, peeking at your papers you filled out when you arrived. “Y/N Y/L/N.” You love the way your name rolls down your tongue. “Can I call you Y/N? Or do you want to stick to Miss Y/L/N?”
“Y/N is fine,” you manage to speak up, sounding a tad bit out of breath. He shoots you a small smile before turning back to your papers, giving it a good read.
“So, tell me what happened exactly.”
“I, uhh… I fell down the stairs,” you clear your throat, feeling your cheeks heating up.
“How did that happen?” he asks with a concerned look on his face as he is now looking at you instead of your papers. You can tell he is thinking that it wasn’t just a coincidence.
“Oh, I was just… Alright, I’ve had some wine tonight and my fuzzy socks were extremely slippery, so I slipped and fell down the stairs. My neighbor heard me screaming and he brought me in.”
Dr. Styles seems amused by your story, a cheeky smirk is tugging on his pink lips. He scribbles down something to your file before rolling closer to sit in front of you.
“Okay, let’s check if you have a concussion. Did you throw up?”
He holds up his little lamp, checking both your eyes and you try to ignore how you just want to melt into his hand that’s holding the side of your head to keep you in place.
“No, I’ve just been feeling dizzy.”
“Does your head hurt? Where did you hit it?”
“Here,” you sigh running a finger over the side of your head, a small bump already forming on it. Harry inspects it gently, humming to himself before writing a few more things into your file.
“Okay, I think you don’t have a concussion, but the way you collapsed was a bit concerning. So I want you to stay here for the night, just to make sure you’re fine and you can leave in the morning.”
“Oh…”
“Do you need to be somewhere?” he asks without looking up, he just keeps writing.
“No, not until tomorrow. Well, I wouldn’t mind if I stayed tomorrow as well,” you add mumbling.
“Don’t want to see your family?”
“Usually I do, but now I’m gonna have to tell them that my boyfriend cheated on me and that’s why I showed up alone.”
You have no idea why you just said it, he is a total stranger, he doesn’t need to know how big of a loser you are, but you just couldn’t help it.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.” The way he furrows his eyebrows is just so adorable, you want to kiss him so badly. “This is an awfully bad time to be alone,” he hums and you nod awkwardly. “Well, you won’t be alone tonight now, I’ll… make sure to check on you often,” he smiles at you swear you forget to breathe for a moment as you nod, completely stunned by him.
Nurse Brenda walks you to a room where you’ll spend the night at, sharing it with a woman in her forties who got taken in with a broken leg. She introduces herself as Celine and she is actually great company. The nurses lend you some clothes you can sleep in and you’ve barely just settled down when Dr. Styles shows up again and your heart skips a beat.
“Hey, everything okay?” he smiles at you, walking closer to your bed before greeting Celine as well shortly.
“Yeah, I’m feeling just fine,” you nod with a nervous smile.
“Still feeling dizzy?”
“Just a bit.” And it’s mostly because of him, but you keep that to yourself.
“Hopefully it’ll go away soon. I’ll be around if you feel worse, just call the nurse station.”
“Thank you, Dr. Styles,” you blink at him with a small smile.
“Alright, take care, ladies,” he smiles at you and Celine before walking out of the room.
“Woah, he was… sexy!” Celine gasps.
“Right? I can barely get a word out when he is around,” you chuckle.
“I think he likes you too.”
“What? Come on, no!” you scoff shaking your head.
“Oh he does. And if he comes in to check on you another time in the next hour he is definitely into you,” she grins before turning back towards the TV.
You don’t believe Celine. There’s no way this sexy doctor could be interested in you beyond just his job which is to make sure you’re okay.
But then he shows up again.
Two times.
Celine can barely hold her laughter back when Dr. Styles walks in for the second time in the next about one and a half hour just to check in on you. With your state and how well you’re feeling it’s totally unnecessary to come by your room this often, so you start to think that there’s something else behind his nice act.
It’s sometime after one am when you dare to wander out of your room. You can’t sleep, the unknown atmosphere totally throwing you off so you opt for a little walk around the floor.
“Everything alright, darling?” One of the nurses asks you.
“Oh, yeah, I just can’t sleep, is all,” you shrug smiling.
“Would you like some medication to help you?” she offers, but you decline.
“I’m fine, thank you.”
The hallways are quiet and empty, most patients on the floor are sleeping, only the nurses are walking from one room to the other, checking in on some patients. Rounding the corner you find the waiting area where friends and family can usually linger around, but now it’s empty. You plop down to one of the cushioned chairs and reach for a magazine on the table, mindlessly flipping through it. It’s old, from years ago and you try not to think about how many people have touched it.
“You should be resting in your room.”
Your head snaps up at the familiar voice, finding Dr. Styles walking towards you with a cup of steaming coffee in his hands.
“Oh, I’m just… I have trouble sleeping at unfamiliar places.”
“You can get some meds for that.”
“I know, but… it’s alright,” you just shrug. He finally arrives to you and takes the chair next to you. “On a break?”
“Kind of,” he chuckles. “You just use the quiet minutes to have a break before hell breaks loose again.”
“Must be really tiring. I always admired doctors for their dedication.”
“Some can’t deal with it, but I feel like I’m alright for now,” he smiles at you, taking a sip from the coffee. “I hope you’re not restless because of your ex.”
“Um, I would love to say it doesn’t bother me anymore, but that would be a blatant lie,” you chuckle awkwardly, dropping the magazine back to the table as you lean back in your seat.
“He must be a real asshole to do that. Especially to such a pretty young woman,” he smirks at you and your heart skips a beat again. This man has you wrapped around his fingers.
“You’re saying that as if you are decades older than me,” you huff smiling.
“How old do you think I am?”
“How old do you think I am?” you ask back.
“I hope you do realize that I’ve seen your personal info in your papers and it had your date of birth as well,” he chuckles and you narrow your eyes at him.
“Okay, then how old did you think I was before you sneakily saw my age? I’ll tell you too after.”
“Alright, I was guessing about twenty-three.”
“But I’m actually twenty-five,” you smile, stating the obvious he already knows. “I guessed you no more than thirty-five, but you seem younger than that actually.”
“I’m turning thirty-three in February,” he answers with a warm smile. Okay, so that’s a total of seven years of age difference, that’s not bad at all.
“And how does your wife like your night shifts?”
It’s a sneaky question, not as sneaky as you would have liked to mask your interest in his relationship status, but it’s only fair if you know it after you eagerly shared yours earlier.
Harry eyes you with an amused smile before shaking his head slightly.
“I don’t have a wife. Not even a girlfriend actually.”
“Oh, then something must be wrong with you. No way a man like you is single!” you gasp dramatically and at this point, you’re openly flirting with him. There’s no use of hiding it, especially because you’re convinced you’ll never see him again once you leave in the morning.
“A man like me? What does that mean?”
“Smart, successful, funny and incredibly hot.”
“Wow,” he chuckles, a rosy tint adorning his cheeks and you like the thought of making him blush. “You don’t beat around the bush! You surely feel better because you could barely speak earlier,” he teases you, making you laugh.
“Just shooting my shot at the hot doctor.”
“Are you just fishing for a new date to bring home to your family?”
“Oh, that’s actually a great idea!” you gasp, but he just chuckles. “Are you free tomorrow?”
The question is half a joke and half serious. You realize that it’s a little too much to ask from him, bringing him home to your family as a first date, but part of you can’t help but imagine what it would be like to walk in, tell your family that Martin cheated on you, but it’s all good because you’re dating this hot doctor now.
He opens his mouth to answer, but then something buzzes in his pocket and he is quick to check it.
“Sorry, I have to run now. Please, try to sleep a little, you need to rest,” he gently smiles at you as he stands from the chair, chugs his coffee down and rushes away fast, leaving you hanging.
You don’t see Harry for the rest of the night and you manage to fall asleep a little after two, only to be woken up at six by the nurses bringing breakfast. Another doctor arrives soon to check you and finalize your release and you’re actually disappointed you haven’t seen Harry since your little chat.
Just when you’re dressed, gathering your things, saying goodbye to Celine, a familiar figure appears at the door. Harry is still wearing his scrubs and coat, he looks undeniably tired, but still so handsome it’s unfair.
“Heard you’re clear to go,” he smiles at you as you grab your bag and walk closer to him.
“Yeah. Thank you for everything.”
“Let me… Let me walk you out,” he offers and he definitely seems a bit nervous. You nod and the two of you head out side by side.
“You owe me an answer,” you smirk at him teasingly.
“I do,” he chuckles breathily. “But I’m afraid I don’t have one for you.”
“You don’t have one because you don’t know whether you want to see me again or not, or because…?”
“I’m gonna be honest, I haven’t been on a date in so long, I’m not even sure I know how to do it,” he admits with a nervous laugh. “You’re… an incredible woman, Y/N. And I would love to see you again, I’m just… not sure if I’m ready for it. I spend most of my time here, working, I’m afraid it’s not the right time.”
“That’s fine,” you smile at him and you do understand his reasons. Still, you’re a bit bummed you won’t be seeing him again. “But if you change your mind, feel free to check my address in my files. I’m leaving for family dinner at four,” you add with a cheeky wink.
“Okay,” he chuckles softly. “Take care, Y/N.”
“You too, Dr. Styles.”
“Harry. It’s just… Call me Harry.”
“Harry,” you say, tasting the name on your tongue. “Happy holidays,” you smile before walking out through the automatic sliding doors. You glance back one last time, seeing Harry still standing at the same spot as he waves after you. Returning it you turn back around and head home.
Thanks to the eventful night and the lack of sleep, you opt to spend most of the day napping. The dizziness is finally gone and you’re feeling just fine, only have a little lump on your head, but your hair is hiding that perfectly. When you wake up you throw together a quick brownie that you promised your mom you’d bring and then you get ready to at least look like a presentable loser at the dinner. You’re truly not in the mood to answer all kinds of questions about Martin, the best would be if you could just stuff your face in peace and come back home and chug another bottle of wine alone.
You’re already getting ready to leave when your doorbell rings and you freeze. Could it be…?
You rush to the door and peek out through the peephole and your jaw drops to the floor when you see Harry on the other side.
“Dr. Styles!” you greet him eagerly as you throw the door open. “I mean, Harry,” you correct yourself quickly, making him laugh. He’s changed the white coat and blue scrubs to a pair of black slacks and a red sweater under his coat and you can’t ignore the fact that he is holding onto a bouquet of supermarket flowers he probably picked up on his way here.
“Hey, I hope… I hope it’s not weird that I’m here,” he chuckles awkwardly.
“I told you to use my address freely,” you smile at him. “How can I help you? I hope you didn’t come here to check in on me.”
“No,” he lets out a laugh. “I’m actually… I thought about it… I thought about you and I realized that I was stupid. So I’m here to make it up and if you still want me to, I would love to be your date today.”
Your eyes widen at his offer, you were definitely not expecting this turn of events.
“What? You really want to meet my family?”
“If it’s alright,” he shrugs chuckling. “I know it’s not the best idea for a first date, but I… I want to help you. And my male pride will not let you go home on your own after what your ex did to you.”
“That’s really nice, but I wouldn’t want to throw you in front of my whole family just like that. Have you even slept since you left the hospital?”
“I had a trip home, took a nice nap, that’s enough for me to last this one evening,” he smiles at you and you don’t doubt him.
“You can come with me, but under one condition.”
“And what is that?”
“We come back here and you’re gonna sleep. I will not be the reason you turn into a zombie.” The coy smile on your face is a tell for him that there might be a bit more than just sleeping, though you’re serious about that.
“I can work with that,” he chuckles softly. “So, do we have a deal?”
“Yeah, let me grab my coat and we can leave. And I’ll give you a quick lesson about my family before I throw you in front of the wolves.”
“I’ll take notes,” he smirks at you before you head out to your car.
Thank you for reading, please like and reblog if you enjoyed it!

Trust Me Pt. 2 (Rick Flag x Reader)
Tumblr media
[Gif]
Pairing(s): Rick Flag x Reader
Characters: Rick Flag, Mentions of Amanda Waller.
Rating: General
Word Count: 1k+
Warning(s): Language, mentions of blood/violence; Suicide Squad (2021) spoilers, mentions of Suicide Squad (2016).
Summary: You were Waller’s rat. Her eyes and ears where technology failed in the field. You represented Rick’s failures and Amanda Waller’s iron grip. So why does he give a shit when you get yourself hurt on a suicide mission? Rick’s first impression has changed a lot since then, but so has yours. Part 2/?
A/N:  Pt 1
Taglist:  @rrtxcmt @to-be-or-not-to-be-2021
---
You were infuriating.
You hadn’t spoken two words to Rick since your initial introduction. She’ll be observing operations and providing support on your next mission out, Waller had said smugly.
Rick threw open your thin dossier when it showed up on his desk for the first time, noting your standard experience in the field. Standard marksmanship. Standard everything. Your speciality was data analysis, for fuck’s sake. When the fuck would Flag need one of Waller’s number-crunching desk jockeys during a life or death mission?
He even caught you rolling your eyes at his pep talk as the jet took off on your first flight out. Granted, it was the same speech he gave all the new members, but you certainly hadn’t heard it before— And it wasn’t for you.
But you played your part. Not a word during mission planning or the briefing— Not much chatter during the mission itself either— But a hell of a lot during debrief afterward. You even sent Waller a secondary report to be noted off record; A long laundry list of what could have been done more efficiently under team leader’s command. Him. You typed up a 2,500 word document just to drag him through the mud.
Which he read, of course. Several times.
When his secret contact in Waller’s war room handed him the report, Rick noticed how nervous the man looked, and how quickly he hustled away. Rick wouldn’t have guessed half the bullshit you bothered to put in writing.
“’Occasional pushover?’” Rick later says abruptly, interrupting your lunch. You jump as he slaps the report down on your desk. There’s stacks of paperwork everywhere, of information about every potential suicide squad member, every past one. Waller has you juggling multiple angles in between your mission outings.
You swallow what’s left of your wilted salad, turning pale, “Where did you get that?”
“’Tendency to be lenient toward prisoners.” Rick continues. He falls into the chair across from you, leaning back with casual disdain.
“You weren’t supposed to—”
“What? Know how incompetent you think my command is?”
“I didn’t say incompetent.”
“No,” He agreed, “You used every other word in the damn dictionary to say it.”
“Would you let me talk?” You crossed your arms and faced him.
Rick threw a hand up, then calmed down. He watched as you stood, hurrying over to your office door to close it quietly.
“It wasn’t personal.” You say as you sit back down.
“It’s a five page essay.”
“This isn’t high school, Flag.” You snapped. You spin the printed document around to look down at it. Rick leaned forward, a giant in your small guest chair, his elbows resting on his spread knees. He waited for you.
You exhale. “It’s... basically just what Waller wants to hear. What she already thinks of you. I didn’t say anything she doesn’t already complain about.”
Oh good.
“Nice.” Rick huffs. “Good to know what kind of job I’m doing.”
“Why do you give a shit?” You suddenly ask. It wasn’t like Waller was keeping him from leading the task force. He was still a Colonel. You want to say as much, wondering how any of this could possibly get to someone like Rick Flag.
You observe how he looks away. How his brows pinch together. It was your job to take in the details. To convert it all into a sum game. Months ago, a good chunk of the stacks on your desk pertained to Colonel Rick Flag and Task Force X’s first run. When Waller told you what you would be doing, you wanted to be prepared.
So you read the data. Saw what he was like on paper. You conjured what you considered a total picture of the man before you ever met him.
Which was why, after seeing him in the field yourself for the first time, you didn’t know what to say.
You had seen what other security personnel were like at Belle Reve. The humiliation and the torment. You didn't have to go down to the prison building often, but you could hear the screams and the violence on the other side of the wall just the same.
You read about the nano-bomb protocol, and how Rick initially had the power to blow each and every member’s brains out right there on his wrist— How he didn’t hesitate to use it the first time it happened.
After that first mission, it was like you’d studied a totally different person.
The man in the chair before you sighed, putting something heavy away behind his eyes before giving you a small shrug. “Guess I don’t.” He says. And when he leaves, you watch as he purposefully does not take the report with him.
---
If the shouting match in Rick’s car hadn’t given you a headache yet, this lecture certainly would. You sat in your chair obediently as Amanda Waller ripped you a new asshole. You nodded your head in the right places. You wondered what Rick wanted to say to you, but didn’t. He was right—You weren’t fired. But you sort of wished you were if it meant you could just stop listening and get some rest.
“—Understood, [L/n]?” Waller finished firmly, eventually.
You nod, giving an apologetic, “Yes, Ma’am.”
You shuffle out of the war room with your debrief packet in your good hand. You feel a dull ache pulsating from the side of your face. When the warm night air hits you as you exit the building, you realize you don’t know where you’re going.
“You ready to go?”
You blink up. Rick is closing his driver’s side door shut in an empty parking lot. He waits for you to come down the steps until you’re standing at the bottom in front of him.
You glance around, “You’re still here?”
A faint look of bemusement. “I said I was getting you home after, didn’t I?”
“To the barracks?”
Rick unfolds his arms and approaches you closely, looking you over in the dark. “You’ve got a week’s leave, [L/n]. Did Waller even talk to you?”
You find yourself being ushered back into the car, and Rick does that thing where he closes the damn door for you like you can’t do it yourself. Like he’s taking care of you.
“So, you gonna tell Siri where I’m takin’ you or what?” He quips, saddling into his seat. When you look at him his smirk dissipates. Suddenly, there’s a warm touch holding your chin in place, a thumb and forefinger turning your head as Rick examines you carefully. You feel a light puff of breath graze your cheek he’s looking at you so close.
“You popped a stitch.” He murmurs, concerned. As he says it, you feel the trickle of fresh blood seep down to the corner of your eye. You feel the exhaustion of three days without sleep wash over you, of all the adrenaline finally flushing from your system in one last sigh. You pull away from his careful grasp and lean back in your seat, closing your eyes.
“Just head into town.” You hear yourself say. You ramble off the cross streets and building number before finally slipping into something like sleep.

⇢ OSAMU stays still in his seat, melancholic eyes contrasting your bright ones while you twirl around in the middle of the ballroom. he admits, your dream wedding gown fit your figure perfectly as it flowed so gracefully the more you moved. but no beauty can compare to the happiness on your face as you danced with his previous volleyball teammate; the latter having a small smile on his face, not even having a single care about the funny looks you've been getting from your distant relatives. despite the minimal expression he adorns, to someone who has known him for a long time, it's clear as day just how ecstatic suna rintaro was to declare you as his wife, just as you were to call him your husband.
that could've been us, his mind screams all throughout the time he's been in the wedding ceremony, that could've been him dancing with you. he remembers little by little— how those smiles and laughters used to be solely for him whenever you try out his new recipes, from tasty to funny, how he used to be the one suddenly dragged to dance with you, how you used to dream of being married to him. him and only him.
but time was a cruel thing. he should've known better than to keep you waiting for more than so many years with nothing but empty and broken promises. i'll be done soon, yn, you know how much this means to me, this is my dream we're talking about here. stop being selfish please— he recalls himself telling you. he fails to see the disappointment and hurt that cross your eyes, fails to protect the already fragile relationship as you say your goodbye's to him a few more arguments and weeks later— i'm sorry for holding you back, samu. make sure to reach your dreams, okay?
i'm sorry. no matter how many times he says it, your fate was already done with him. you only needed him and he couldn't even give you that.
"hey there, stranger. wanna dance for a bit?"
he looks up, blinded by your brightness that almost seemed as if it mocked his sappy mood but he nods nevertheless, taking your hands as you pull him to the dance floor. in his peripheral view, he sees suna give him a wholehearted smile.
"you should stop frowning. it doesn't suit your face you know? what did you do to my lively samu?" you huff after a few minutes of nothing but silence and awkwardness while you swayed side to side with him, pouting when he shrugs, "you're such a gloomy ass! are you still in love with me or something?"
you swear it was supposed to be a joke, something to lighten the air between you two. but how were you supposed to laugh when he replied to you in the way you least expected?
"yeah, actually, i still am."
silence engulfed the two of you as you tried to overcome your shock. and for all the years he has been with you, it was painfully obvious that the answer he hopes for will not come. not now, not ever.
"samu... it's been—"
"i know. almost 8 years, is it? i know but i can't help it, yn. how could i when you're literally all i see everywhere i look?"
you fail to give him back a reply and (un)fortunately, he feels a tap on his shoulder and immediately, he knew it was time. he lets go of your waist and turns around, heart ready to get drowned by the bitter wine he's planning to drink all throughout the night, accompanied by the tears he won't be able to let out until he comes back to his hotel room.
"congratulations on your wedding, yn."
he ignores the hollowness inside him brought about by the unfinished conversation and goes back to his seat and repeats it like a mantra: not all fairytales get their happy ending.
and much to his dismay, his was one of those that don't.
⇢ BOKUTO was a star, luminous and blinding yet always longing to be part of the galaxy that held the awe of many other people. he was a child with dreams that wander all over the world and with confidence, he wants hear it, see that same world cheer for him.
he was an enormous star but his dreams were even bigger— and as he reaches out his hand to take more of what the universe can give him, he unknowingly lets go of yours.
"you look like you've dropped a huge shit on your underwear with the way you're staring down the court," konoha comments as he takes the seat he reserved beside you, hands deep in his pocket while he does so.
you glare at him, scoffing at his vulgar choice of words, "and you look like that shit, asshole. we haven't seen each other for so long and that's how you greet me?"
he laughs out loud, opening his arms and shoving you in them, "here! is this what you wanted instead? so adorable, yn! i knew you loved me at some point!"
you let out a series of groans, struggling to get out of his hold, "no! you're so annoying, get off me!"
he cackles, releasing you as the buzz rings out throughout the whole court, signaling the beginning of the match between msby and schweiden adlers. you shift in your seat, watching the players get introduced one by one, gasping when your ex-boyfriend literally does two cartwheels in his turn. is he... serious?
"where does he think he is... some kind of circus?" konoha snickers, shaking his head in amusement. oddly, you find yourself laughing with your companion. after all, this was typical bokuto, so full of energy and surprises.
"he looks... okay. very much okay," you bitterly state, placing your chin right on your palm as your arms and elbows rested on your lap. envy envelops your whole being as you watch him lively wave to the crowds, a large grin staying on his face. you huff silently, eyes trying to look at the other players but gravity seems to be playing its tricks on you as you find yourself reverting back to his figure. you wonder if time will let you become that happy someday.
"you're not...?" the lad beside you trails off, sighing when you shake your head 'no.'
"of course not yet, aki. it's not that i still love him or anything but he's just... he was everything, you know? he's become part of all my routines and now that he's gone, it... it just feels empty. like the dreams that used to help me sleep at night suddenly went away," he nods, not pushing you to say anything further. you both knew better than to have a shameful breakdown in public.
"god, i keep forgetting that the air conditioning in here is the worst," you grumble under your breath, rubbing your hands together to keep them from freezing out... because bokuto was no longer there to keep them warm, no longer there to offer you his own hands because you both forgot your gloves at home, no longer there to blow on them as if it was effective (it distracted you both at least), no longe—
"here, give me your hand," konoha reaches out to you, palms awaiting for yours to be in contact with his. you blink, surprised by his sudden offer, along with the pink hues that dusted both sides of his cheeks.
"we can't have them becoming numb, can we? i... i want to hold these hands for a very long time, you know?" he stutters as he begins rubbing both of your hands together, successfully getting rid of the cold and providing a new warmth you never expected will come sooner. oh... it's time, huh?
"uhm... yeah... thank you," you felt your face get hot. it seems like something... rather, someone has come to distract from the coldness you've been recently feeling.
"give me your days," he coughs out, still blushing. if anything, he's flushing even more now, "i'll fill the emptiness in them... and... and i can be your dream so you can sleep tight... and you'll be mine."
you gape at him, thousands of scenes flying through your mind but all of them led to one specific scenario.
"i... i have a lot of dreams, yn! i want to become a star player, someone who everyone will look up to and cheer for! and i... i think i want to focu—"
"i get it, bo. i'll get out of your way then. thank you... for everything."
"i-i'll be your dream?"
konoha chokes on his own saliva, "y-yeah! don't make me repeat it though, do you even know how cheesy that sounds? i can't believe i just said that, god... the things you make me do, you...!"
"okay."
it was his turn to blink, "e-eh?"
"i guess this is day one then?"
"eh?! wait... we... we're dating now, right?!"
"shut up now, aki."
as his golden eyes observe the two figures sitting by the stands, bokuto wishes he could've seen sooner that you were the one he had always been dreaming of, yearning for; wishes it could be him that was holding your hands again and he swears to whoever god there is, he won't let go of them anymore.
but then again, it seems like you were finally ready to wander with someone that wasn't him— who was he to stop you from doing so?
he was just a star;
you were the whole universe,
his universe.

Green Tea Ice Cream | Gojo Satoru
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: He confesses his love to you and you're nervous.
READER: gender neutral
WORDS: 1027
WRITTEN: 02/26/2021
NOTES: Thank you for requesting! I had a lot of fun writing this one <3
Tumblr media
"Y/N, I'm absolutely in love with you, and I kind of hate that because I've never been in love but I love you."
He had a bright smile on his face as he looked down at you. His round glasses slipped to the tip of his nose as he looked at you expectantly.
You blinked at him multiple times, looking up at the tall man to the point where your neck was hurting.
Your eyes managed to tear away from his porcelain face, looking at the horde of various designed balloons in his hand before looking at his other hand that held a long, velvet jewelry box.
There were heart-shaped balloons, 'I love you' balloons, and an odd 'Get well soon' balloon, and you were sure he bought that one just for fun.
You were starting to feel lightheaded from how nervous you were. Your heart was beating extremely fast and the people watching you didn't make it any better.
Some people were stopping to see what your response would be, forming a crowd around you.
Satoru couldn't have picked a worse place. Well, you knew he actually could, but the middle of a busy street in the middle of the night near dinner time was horrible enough.
The two of you had just finished dinner and dessert. He took you to a quiet restaurant that wasn't fancy. It had a warm, homey feeling to it because he knew you didn't like fancy restaurants.
The two of you had green tea ice cream after dinner, which was one of your favorite flavors. He found it odd when he first learned that you didn't like green tea, but you liked green tea ice cream.
You were well aware of his ability, but it still shocked you whenever he disappeared and came back just as quickly—especially when he came back with balloons and a jewelry box after exiting the restaurant.
"Um... Can we—Can we talk? In private, please," you requested.
The smile on his face dropped slightly and the corner of his lips twitched, but he nodded.
Another embarrassing thing was that he followed after you like a sad puppy and the large balloons trailed after him.
You tried to find a quiet corner where people wouldn't come near, and when you finally found one, you stood there and fidgeted with the hem of your jacket.
Satoru resisted the urge to sigh. This was it. It was the end of his relationship with you. He wasn't even surprised.
Actually, yes, he was surprised because he was a catch. He knew that. He knew he was attractive, strong, intelligent, but he was not easy to reign in.
He spent most of his adulthood picking up women just by looking at them. They would have sex, then he'd never have to hear from them again because he didn't care enough.
Then, he met you, and you didn't want him at all. That was what made it so interesting. Of course, he pinned after you but he didn't know he was pinning at all.
He just thought he was being a fun dick, and it took him months to realize that he liked you and your company and the stupid way you can't even talk to strangers.
More months passed before he realized he didn't just like you. He fucking loved you. But he told himself he wasn't going to tell you because a relationship wasn't worth it with his profession.
He didn't want to pass on his curse to his child—if he had one with you. He did think about raising a child together with you, but then he realized that would involve confessing to you first.
So he waited to see if you would confess first, but you never did. He was close to tugging at his hair and screaming, but Gojo Satoru wasn't a screamer nor did he want to damage his luscious hair.
So he stood there with a stoic expression on his face, gripping the strings on the balloons and planning to return the necklace to the jewelry shop.
He was a bit dejected since he took so long to pick out a necklace for you. He decided on a green amethyst because the color reminded him of the green tea ice cream you liked so much.
"I like you too," you whispered.
He blinked. "Say that again?"
You looked at him hesitantly. "I like you too."
He blinked a few times before grinning. "I didn't say I liked you, but I'll take it—unless you have something to correct?" he questioned as he leaned in.
You made a face at him. "I love you too," you murmured.
He enveloped you in a hug. "Why didn't you just say so? I knew you loved me."
You slowly wrapped your arms around his waist, burying your face into his chest. "I'm shy. I didn't like all those people looking at us."
He probably should have thought about his extravagant plan more. The more he thought about it, the more he realized how dumb he was.
You were too scared to even order food at a fast food place, so there was no wonder you were terrified when he declared his love for you in front of a crowd of people.
He leaned back and began playing with your hair.
"What are you doing?" you asked.
"Just wait."
You stood there and waited until he backed away and took multiple pictures of you with the flash on.
You squinted your eyes and touched your hair, feeling some sort of braid.
"Wha—Did you braid the balloons into my hair?" you asked.
"You're so cute, Y/N! I could just eat you."
"It'll draw attention to me! Satoru, take them out," you whined.
He put his phone away and smiled as he walked back to you and slung an arm around you.
"With me by your side, all the attention will be on me," he said.
"You're so..."
"Humble? I know."
You sighed, even though you had expected that type of response. You weren't exactly sure what dating Satoru would be like, but you did like how warm his body was.

A/N: NOT PROOFREAD. I’ll fix it once I have time.. For NCT-WRITERS Cafe Resonance
—————
Walking around the mall alone and witnessing yet another beautiful, and successful Valentines Day for the year of 2021 and you’re the only person in the world who knew the man behind this beautiful day.
“Alone during Valentine’s day Y/n? Jaehyun hyung can’t come?” Mark, the waiter from the cafe asked you while he serves you your third round of your favorite warm drink. This is where you and Jaehyun first met, and you have been celebrating Valentines day for nearly three years here now just because Jaehyun can see all the lovers holding hands through that clear glass. All his hard work has paid off.
But tonight, he is already two hours late and you wonder why because he has never been late on Valentine’s Day.
“Uhm, Jaehyun will be a little bit late. Business trip. But I completely understand his schedule” you smiled and thanked him.
Of course you’re not sad that Jaehyun couldn’t make it on time this year. Maybe he got caught up with a little work an emergency perhaps? But you do hope that this is nothing serious.
Three Valentine’s Day ago
You were sitting quietly at Cafe Resonance with a warm drink on your side. Just admiring the happy couples that are enjoying the day with flowers, sweets, and different kinds of surprises. It was a normal day for you, but not until a very handsome man sat in front of you on the other side of the table. Giving you three pieces of Cafe Resonance’s Valentine cookies.
A cupid in his human form. Came out to play and enjoy his day for his own selfish needs. The gods forbade Jaehyun to celebrate his own day so he could stay pure like the god that he is and remain sinless and worthy. But the young cupid is full of passion and curiosity that he took his chance to walk on Earth and make himself meet someone that can satisfy his physical wants.
“The cafe manager said that if I want someone to fall on love with me, I should give them a Valentine cookie” he said and flashed a very handsome smile at you. Knowing all too well that what the manager told him was complete bullshit, because no one can force love to happen with anyone but him.
At least that’s what he knew.
Your first encounter with Jaehyun was surprisingly refreshing and fun. You ate all the cookies that he gave and to be honest you only did that to show him that you’re interested with him too, and also it’s not so bad to fall in love with someone like him. He’s nice, decent and well mannered. Though it’s pretty obvious that he’s after for some Valentine’s sex, and you have no problem with that.
At the end of the day, the man made you scream in bed, fucked you on the wall and made you cum for more three times using his cock. He sure knew how to fuck, you thought.
But the bitter feeling and ugly thought of waking up without him by yourself the next day is something you don’t want to happen so even though you’re dead tired from the sex, you try si hard not to sleep yet and make the best of this moment by asking too much questions to him that he likes answering.
Was the valentine cookie from Cafe Resonance real? Is it really possible for you to fall in love with a stranger?
“Go sleep. I promise I’m still here when you wake up” he said.
And he kept his promise not only the day after Valentine’s Day, but also for the next few weeks. Who would expect that a cupid who just wanted to have fun during his day, wasn’t so immune with love after all. And who would expect that he’s willing to be punished by the gods because of you? But what amazes Jaehyun the most, is how you fell in love with him. Because even as a cupid, he didn’t made you like him or used his powers for his selfishness.
Either way, he still refused on believing that the Valentine cookie was real and effective. Such kind of love mustn’t be tolerated he thought.
Life with Jaehyun was sweet and real. Too beautiful to ruin. That’s why when Jaehyun said that he’s leaving, you didn’t take it lightly which soon lead to your first fight.
Jaehyun didn’t have much of a choice but to tell you the truth. Even though you just laughed at him when he finally said the words, he secretly hoped that you’d still understand because he believes that you love him.
“I don’t have a choice Y/n. I’ve been away for months now. I am neglecting my duty as a cupid, by this time the happy couples that we saw during Valentine’s day could have broken up already because I’m not around” he explains frustratedly.
“So you’re saying that you’re the cupid and couples can break up because you’re not around. Because you’ve been busy being happy with me?”
“Yes” he answered weakly and reached for your hand to kiss it. Promising you that he will come back and find you. “It’s just for a year. I’ll sort everything out and I promise I’ll give the love that you deserve”
And as Jaehyun left you as soon as the truth was revealed, you let him leave you with a big doubt and judgement in your heart. Is he secretly married and you’re a mistress now? Have you done something wrong to make him leave you like this? And these ugly thoughts ran thru your mind for months and months during his absence.
During your wait for Jaehyun’s return, you decided to move on and just date anyone to forget everything about Jaehyun. But every time that you plan a date with someone, the set date will be either cancelled or the guy won’t show up. Little did you know that Jaehyun is the man behind those unfortunate events. Secretly watching you from a cloud above you, guiding you towards patience until he returns and win your heart again.
It was not easy for Jaehyun to see you like this, purposely forgetting everything about him like he was just a dream to you. He can’t let that happen, for he knew that what you have is love.
On the next Valentine’s Day, you can’t believe who showed up in your doorstep. He didn’t change a bit, and neither his feelings for you.
“Can I come inside?” the cupid asked nervously.
“I don’t know what game you’re playing, but seriously what are you doing here Jae?”
“I told you I’d come back right? I’m here now, and we don’t have much time-“
“I have a boyfriend now so please leave me alone”
“That’s a lie. I know everything about you, I’ve watch you every day from above for a whole year. Please just believe me. Don’t push me away, I kept my promise didn’t I? I’m here now”
And the thought of Jaehyun keeping his promise was enough for you to welcome him in but your heart is still cold and broken because of what happened from the past.
As you and Jaehyun sit and have a decent conversation, he showed his wings which is enough proof to believe him that he really is the cupid. You were speechless for hours, and your apartment’s for corners was suffocating you so Jaehyun decided to have a walk with you.
He wanted to hold your hand like every couple he sees now. He wanted to whisper how much he misses you and loves you. Ironic isn’t it? He’s the cupid who spreads love on Earth but he can’t have love for himself.
“So how old are you?” you finally spoke. Those were your first words after seeing his wings, and that was four hours ago.
“Human age is 25, but cupid age... I have no idea but let’s say almost 127 years old? That’s still young in cupid years” he smiled and let out a small laugh. Completely missing that you’re shocked to the core upon hearing his age. But now that you know more truths about him, the normal thing you would do was react hysterically and make him leave you alone. Surprisingly, you wanted to hear more about him. To hear more about the truth.
“Tell me more?” You said shyly, slowly reaching for his hand for you to hold and hold it tightly. Oh you missed him.
He smiled so big and reached in for a kiss on the forehead before he tells you more about him and to what he do. The simple walk turned into a date, and of course he brought you to Cafe Resonance to celebrate your reunion and basically your first year of knowing each other. And when you got back to your apartment, he immediately brought you to your room and fucked you all night in different positions.
“When are you going to leave?” you asked while drawing circles on his chest and savouring his warmth.
“Tomorrow” he answered weakly and tightens his embrace, “I can’t be away from duty like what I did last year. The gods might not let me see you if I continue to be stubborn”
“It’s sad. But I understand, and at least now I have something to look forward to”
Three Valentine’s Day later
Thru the years of being together, even when you don’t see each other everyday, Jaehyun always finds a way to show his love for you thru unexpected things. Big or small.
Like during your birthdays, he always sends gifts to you with sweet and short notes. Or like whenever you wake up on your side of the bed and see a feather on his side of the bed. That simply means he’s always with you, like an angel.
This year’s Valentine’s day marks your three years if staying in love with each other, and you’re more than excited with seeing him today. But given that he was hours and hours late already, you decided to call it a day and go home to rest. Maybe he will come by the next day? Nonetheless, you still believe that he will do everything just to be with you.
Three days later, he’s still nowhere to be found and it’s weird how you can’t feel him watching you anymore. What is happening?
“Hi Y/n” Mark greeted you with his normal cheerful aura. “Were you and Jaehyun supposed to meet? You completely missed him. It’s weird actually, he came here not have some coffee but instead he had a talk with the manager”
“Uh- yeah, sorry. I guess I’ll see him at home then,” you answered awkwardly and forgot the cake that you purchased.
When you came back to your apartment, finally you see his unique figure standing by the window and staring blankly at the sky.
“I thought you forgot about me, are you okay? Jaehyun?” You hugged him from behind and kissed his broad shoulders.
“Sorry about that, how are you?” He turned around and return the hug and kisses. Saying that he’s really sorry for leaving you hanging on a very special day.
“I’m fine. What happened? Is there something wrong? You look troubled” you asked, but he didn’t answer your question but instead he kissed you deeply and motioned you towards your bedroom, making a trail of discarded clothes on the floor.
And once you landed on your bed, Jaehyun immediately went on top of you and kissed your neck, all the way down to the valley between your boobs while kneading them and sucking them. His breathing was heavy and you quickly noticed it. You wanted to make him stop and make him talk, but you’re too late.
He already spread your legs wide and positioned himself between your legs, kneeling in front of you so handsomely as he starts touching your pussy with his thumb. Up and down he makes you wet and sensitive, not to mention he was really gentle and slow. At first you thought he was going to fuck you already, but to you surprise he put his two fingers inside you and came closer to you again, to suck your nipples and bite them softly until he’s satisfied.
Swollen and sensitive, that’s how he left your nipples and starts lining his cock on your entrance, slowly pushing in his cock. “Fuck” he comments with a grunt. Putting every inch of his thick and veiny cock inside of you, moving his hips slowly. His head rests on the crook of you neck, his breath tickling you but all you can do now is moan.
Moan and keep him close with your arms wrapped around his frame. And when you whispered “I love you, Jaehyun” that instantly melted his heart and fucked you even more deliciously. But he also wished you didn’t say it to him because now he knows your love is not real. Cafe resonance put you in a spell and only your true love can break it.
He got up from his comfort close to your body and got a hold on your hips, slightly lifting it so he could fuck you harder and so he could see your boobs bounce up and down, grip it whenever he wants to, pinch it whenever he wants to and suck it whenever he wants to.
Suddenly, he pulled out completely only to push back in a little harsher that your head hit the head board. He did it again. Making you hiss with the stretch from your cunt, but the pleasure is driving you insane. He then started to lick your neck and chest, pinning your arms on your side while he fucks you harder. Your moans became louder and you started gripping the sheets and just stop fighting the feeling, and accepting the intensity of every thrust Jaehyun gives you.
“Why are you so rough tonight?” You asked with ragged breaths, toes started curling, and you begged him to go slower because you don’t want to cum yet but he didn’t listen.
He made you cum for the first time tonight and it wasn’t anything you’ve ever had before. You gripped the pillow so tight, moaned his name weakly, and let you shiver and curl beneath him while his hands still roams around your body, his cock still inside you and he hasn’t cum yet, a sign that he is not yet done with you.
Little did you know, he’s scanning every inch of you, engraving your beauty while you’re naked in his mind. For this is your last night together.
“I wanted to talk-“
Jaehyun started talking but to his surprise you voluntarily move your hips and started fucking yourself. He was sure he made you weak already and fucked you hard, how is possible that you still wanted to go for another round? But he wasn’t complaining, in fact he loves the image of you fucking yourself and using him to go off.
“That’s right baby, fuck me. Go deeper” and so you followed what he wanted, after all you’re not doing this for your own pleasure, you’re doing this because you wanted him to cum too.
With widely spread legs and bouncing tits, you moved your hips up and down while Jaehyun is kneeling in between your legs and you have a complete view of Jaehyun’s fucked out face. Eyebrows furrowing, parted swollen pink lips, chanting your name over and over again and telling you how much he loves what he’s seeing and feeling.
“Oh fuck Y/n, you feel so good”
“Fuck baby”
“Go slower, I don’t want to cum yet-“
But you didn’t gave into his request simply because he didn’t go slow earlier with you. So you moved your hips faster, up and down and put on a show for him by kneading your boobs in front of him and pinching your sensitive nipples to make yourself clench around him.
In a matter of seconds, Jaehyun’s hands are around your rib, perfectly placed under your boobs, and your legs are folded so he could go deeper. He took over until he’s finally shooting his warm, thick cum inside you. Satisfied for what you’ve done to him because he landed on top of your body, so weak and his legs are still shaking.
Too tired to clean the cum dripping from your hole, too comfortable in Jaehyun’s arms and presence that you never want to let go.
On the next day, you woke up quite late and you’re all alone in your cold bed. Though you’re completely cleaned and dressed, maybe Jaehyun took care of you last night before he leaves.
Scanning your apartment for something Jaehyun left, a small note or a flower placed somewhere... but you didn’t find anything. He usually leaves with a promise of seeing together again. Maybe he forgot?
When Jaehyun found out the truth about that Valentine cookie, he immediately hated himself for giving it to you and being the root of his heartbreak right now. He needs to fix this by looking for someone that will love you despite still having his effect on you. He’s positive that once your true love showed up, you will completely forget and move on from him.
It’s weird how this year, all you did was feel an unexplainable pain in your chest. A year full of pain and you dont know where your heartbreak is coming. Not to mention, Jaehyun hasn’t been making you feel his presence lately. That’s why you feel so lonely.
6 months have already passed since the last time that you saw him. And suitors always comes in the way, and you wonder how and why because you knew Jaehyun would get rid of them.
And as months passes by, you continue to fool yourself and still believe that Jaehyun will come back to you. Even tho you felt nothing from his presence the whole year.
Until finally, you received a note from him on Valentine’s day 2022.
Go to Cafe Resonance tonight -JH
And so you did, with a big smile on your face and with a new dress you bought specifically for this occasion. You waited for his arrival, looking at your watch every minute... but he never came. Instead, he sent you another note given bu the manager of Cafe Resonance.
“I’m sorry Y/n,” Manager Chenle said handling you the note that contains the saddest news you’ve ever received.
But just before you could open the note, someone sat in front of you and asked permission to share the table with you because everywhere else is full.
“Yes its fine,” you said without even looking at him and proceed to minding your own business. Reading Jaehyun’s last note to you that says.
He is a good man, full of love and has a heart of gold. He is the one destined for you, not me. The love I can give to you, has no match to what he can give to you. I’m sorry.
“By the way I’m Johnny”
The man reached out his hand for you to shake, smiling so handsomely at you. It’s weird how your heart instantly skipped a beat. Jaehyun how could you do this to me.

maniac :: cc!tommy x reader
angst (?) , platonic (?) , gender neutral ! ib: conan gray’s maniac
this is satire & note that i write the reader to be a few months younger than tommy (besides that, i think it is fully inclusive !)
synopsis : you put all your hard work towards a useless crush. with no expectation for reciprocated feelings in the first place, it still all ends in a bittersweet slap to reality.
Tumblr media
you grew up with minecraft and it was an understatement to say it was part of your childhood
even years later, you still maintained interested in the game
it wasn’t just a simple video game, the community inspired you to do many things
you aspired to be like the creators you watched at a young age like sky, dantdm, cupquake, stampy, and many more
making people happy and entertained was a dream
and when minecraft slowly began trending again in 2019, you started making your own content whenever you felt like it out of fun
you never got much views but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless
but it wasn’t until the first minecraft monday you decided to push a bit more with your hobbies and worked hard to make it somewhere
however balancing your passions with school wasn’t the easiest
given, you were still only around 15 and your content wasn’t even that good
with not much of a goal or plan with your youtube channel, you fell out of interest eventually
you loved minecraft but you always a rocky relationship with it; getting back into it for a few months then pretending it never really existed for another few
besides the occasional videos you watched in your pass time, you didn’t stay that updated
then lockdown happened
it changed everything and even got you regressing back to old interests
soon enough you were back to minecraft
there was so much to catch up on
hermitcraft season 7 just started, there was minecraft championships, and smp earth and smp live, and so much more to look forward to watching
you were a bit late on both of the smps but your interest peaked specially towards smp earth and it didn’t stop you from watching the past videos
you first gravitated towards a certain youtuber’s videos first since you remember stumbling onto his videos before from your recommended page; wilbur soot
besides recognizing him from his you laugh you lose series and making parody-type of songs, you didn’t know much
however with a few clicks, you had binge watched his smp earth series effortlessly
you found yourself falling down the endless hole, finding more creators to watch through wilbur
one in particular caught your eye in an interesting way
tommyinnit
my god, how can someone be so annoying and pushy in these videos? like shut up already
and to find out he was barely months older than you frustrated you
you just wanted to be better in some way
if someone like him could be popular, why can’t you? yelling at others and causing problems didn’t seem that hard
and so you went back to working hard on your previously failed youtube channel but this time with a goal; be better than tommyinnit
it was a weird aspiration in your head but it worked
he was your age and successful, why need a better motivator?
tommy wasn’t the sole reason why you strive to make content since you truly did want to create videos to entertain people like the youtubers you originally grew up watching
and with the amount of free time you had, you thoroughly analyzed his content; what was the most popular, how he streamed, edited his videos, everything
you just completely studied the algorithm in general
along the way, tommy’s personality grew on you
tommy was undoubtedly a very loud and energetic person but you became fond of his ambitions
you understood why he was popular at such a young age; he was a natural entertainer
your spite towards the boy turned into a hope
a hope to be at par with him someday and even be mutuals
and it was like your dreams were suddenly manifested into existence
you gained a large following in the early months of lockdown and even was recognized to be apart of minecraft championships
it felt like yesterday that you were just watching your favorite youtubers livestream the same competition
and now you were situation in a team to play yourself for the first time instead of being a viewer for once
not to mention, with tommyinnit as a teammate
how did you manage to get so lucky?
under the excitement, you felt beyond never nervous waiting in the empty discord call for your team to join you to practice the mini-games
in the middle of gathering your thoughts together, you heard a sound from discord signaling someone joined the call
“uh, hello?”
you heard the familiar british accent you spent hours listening to from countless streams and videos
“h-hi! i’m y/n, how are you?”
you hoped tommy couldn’t hear the strain in your voice due to fighting your nerves, but you quietly celebrated that you didn’t freeze up altogether
“oh i’m good, thank you. and i’m tommy by the way, this is the first time we’re speaking, yeah?”
“yep! it’s nice to meet you”
“yeah, i’ve seen your name around the timeline a few times, you seem cool”
oh my god what?
“thanks! um i actually really enjoy your content not gonna lie”
“oh wow, good shit!”
and the conversation smoothly went on, bouncing back and forth between you two before your other two teammates joined the call
once everyone was situated, you decided to start streaming since it was your first mcc and you wanted a vod of you practicing to look at later on as a memory
your chat immediately noticed how much you were enjoying yourself, especially after all the short stories of talking about who inspired you in the past
the smile plastered on your face never left
after stream and your other teammates went offline, it was you and tommy left in the call once together again
“it was nice talking to you tommy! and the practice was really fun, i cant wait for the actual competition!”
“yeah definitely, we’ll for sure place high”
“hopefully. it’s my first time and i hope i don’t cost us the dub”
“nah, you think so? i mean rt and plumbella are also our team mates so you know, it’s all for fun in the end”
you knew tommy was implying the teamwork wasn’t going to be the best compared to the other teams but at least in the end you’ve both made a new friend
“yeah you’re right!”
“anyway it’s getting late imma hop off”
“okay tommy, talk to you soon?”
“yep!”
“alright byee”
“bye!”
the moment he left the call, you felt a sense of relief before a small wave of sadness took over
you wanted to continue talking to tommy but you knew you had other responsibilities to tend to
for the rest of the day, you couldn’t stop thinking of the call and mcc practice
the funny jokes, singing random songs, screaming for no reason, everything
it even kept you awake until the early morning
you buried your head in a pillow and screamed into it after realization hit
y/n no
no no no no no no no
you tried to recall anything that remotely related your other teammates which you remembered that didn’t include tommy
even if it was a few hours ago, you couldn’t pin point something specific
no
i must just be forgetful, right?
what the hell did rt and plumbella even say that whole call?
you vividly remembered everything with tommy and it was clear to you why
surely not
with putting a hand on your chest above your heart, you confirmed that you couldn’t lie to yourself based on the rapid speed
you liked tommy for a good while but it hadn’t clicked to you until now
eventually you fell asleep due to exhaustion but that’s to say you didn’t do so without imagining spending more time with tommy
ever since that day, time went by in a flash
your team didn’t do the best in mcc but it had been a while since then to have that as a concern
sadly you and tommy didn’t talk as often as you hoped but that didn’t make you have less feelings for him
on some days you felt bad since you thought you didn’t know enough about him to even be allowed to crush on him
it was a bit unprofessional but you were nearly 16, it’s normal to have these little crushes right?
eventually time came to rescue when tommy asked you if you wanted to accompany him in the dream smp
undoubtedly, you said yes
and for the few months during summer, it was where you two became even closer than before
however, once both of you two had to go back and attend school, it was harder to catch up with each other
even on calls together off stream, the occasional snapchat notification going off irked you in a way you couldn’t explain
only winter break was the small pause on your disappointment
but even then, it was a slow but steady hill of repressed sadness and frustration until early spring of the following year
you had hoped 2021 would be better than last year but after scrolling through twitter one day and seeing stans making rumors about how tommy had a crush on one of his classmates gave you the same pain you felt when school started last fall
you dreaded to look over at tommy’s most recent story time stream vod where all the gossip arose from; it was him stumbling over his words with the mention of a girl during a certain part
jealousy wasn’t the right word to describe the way you felt
you would never go out of your way to make tommy reciprocate the feelings you had for him
and if he liked someone else the way you saw him, you wouldn’t mind
having a crush is ecstatic, and if he has someone like that too, you should be happy
right?
you tried
what finally broke you was seeing a tiktok a few weeks later of tommy in college with eryn and another girl talking
you didn’t know how she looked like or anything but you wanted to sob
good for him
she didn’t even say much in the video and you dont know enough about tommy’s personal life to jump to conclusions like this
you knew you were acting irrational and you couldn’t be upset at tommy for something he couldn’t control
if anything, you never directly showed interest in him
you didn’t want to in the first place
it was a bad idea from the start
you looked back at the past year and all your intentions
what kind of sick fanfiction did you think you were living?
becoming a content creator, hoping to blow up, just to talk to a big youtuber you had a crush on?
oh my god
y/n what is wrong with you?
listen to yourself, y/n
you need to get some help
whether tommy was dating or even just had interest someone was none of your business
you had to move on no matter what it was and be good and supportive friend
it was dreadful to get over a stupid crush like this but after so much work you put in, you gave some sympathy for yourself
in a friend perspective, you were happy with whatever tommy did and was satisfied your friendship together, but you hadn’t realized how much you gambled from the beginning
and just for a crush?
you couldn’t comprehend how far you gone because you fancied someone
it wasn’t like anyone could get famous and become a popular content creator either
and now with you being on the dream smp along with a successful youtube channel at 16? you were grateful something pushed you enough to work this hard
but you’d never forget the fact everything that lead up to this point was a crush on no other than tommyinnit which first spurred from complete spite
“who’s the one better off now?” your thoughts mocked you from the complete irony
sigh
y/n, you maniac

Ghostly Mystery Tour
For Phic Fight 2021! dey’s lovely prompt c:
On Ao3
Maddie and Jack had fully prepared for their adventure into the Ghost Zone—or so they thought. The fuel on Specter Speeder had fizzled out about a mile in. They're stuck. At least, until Phantom comes by, offering help.
“I just don’t understand it Maddie, I swear I charged it just this morning!” Jack’s voice managed to be louder than his frantic jabbing at the fuel gauge in the enclosed space, the sickly green glow outside making him look ill instead of agitated.
“I’m sure you did honey, but we need to think of a plan.” Maddie was already trying to think of what they could use. They weren’t too far away from the portal home, with how quickly the Speeder ran out of power. They had plenty of gear and weaponry packed in for their research trip, but the Specter Speeder wasn’t powered with something they could just toss in a gas can and bring along. “Maybe we can hook some of the ropes to the floating land masses and tow it?”
“Oh! Great idea!” Jack brightened, shoving the previous problem aside, hands now occupied with measuring the distance of the nearby rocks. “The sooner we get moving, the sooner we can get back to work!”
The problem about how safe it actually was to breathe in the air when in the realm of the dead had been accounted for, but if they had to waste the air tanks just to get back- well they wouldn’t get to have nearly the amount of time to actually explore on foot, let alone gathering samples. They could learn so much about the ectoplasmic terrors from the world they clawed out of, weaknesses they didn’t need to fear on Earth even! So to have their expedition, a trip that had been months in the making derailed like this in mere moments hurt. At least Jack could keep his eyes forward, his positive attitude the only thing keeping her from screaming from the absolute unfairness of it all. “Just run the best options past me before you open the hatch, okay darling?”
“You betcha!”
She was still going to enable the Fenton Child Safety Lock as a precaution, he could get a little over eager when he saw an opportunity. It was just a matter of what tools could be repurposed into a makeshift claw or skewer to actually keep hold of the rocks. What would be the smallest loss?
The sound of something hitting the roof of the speeder halted her thoughts, turning to look out of the windows, drawing up her hood in case they’d be fighting so soon. Even Jack had stopped with his mental calculations, pulling a weapon from under the seat. “Company already? Guess we’ll show em what for, eh honey?”
“Well it is the Ghost Zone, they’re probably braver here. Not that it’ll be any problem.” A little boasting could help keep morale up, even if the situation was less than ideal. Stranded with a ghost already trying to take advantage, typical.
“Well one little zap with this baby and it’ll scoot right on back!”
If the ghost could hear them, maybe it would be frightened off just by their voices. Whatever had hit them hadn’t shown itself near the window, or hit their vehicle again. It didn’t feel right. There might be no evidence for whatever it was lurking around, but sometimes you had to follow your intuition. Jack was inquisitive, but didn’t ask out loud as his wife stood to knock the ceiling herself.
“Sooo are we doing knock knock jokes, or do you need a tow?”
She should have known. Of all the ghosts, it would have to be the one that always managed to get her hackles up, pretending to be helpful so people trusted him. A ghost that even tried to have a human name to fit in, not that she’d ever call this thing ‘Danny’. It was an insult to her baby boy, quite frankly. “What are you up to now?”
“Asking you if you need this thing moved. Duh,” the ghost snorted, the metal clanking as he knocked it again. “Talking at you from the roof feels dumb, you gonna shoot if I go to the front?”
“Depends on what you do, ghost scum!” Jack had looked pensive for a moment, but spoke up quickly on spotting Maddie reaching for a notebook. He just had to give her time to think it over, and he was great at distractions.
“Is scum what you call all people who help you out, or am I just your favourite?” A white haired head appeared at the top of their window, looking down with an amused smirk at the pair. Still playing innocent when they were at a disadvantage.
“You’re a ghost ‘claiming’ to want to help.”
That earned a frown, though the ghost stopped half hiding to float in front of their stranded speeder. “Riiiight. Put it that way, whatever,” he paused, as if studying their faces. His green eyes lingered on the weapon, notably so even as he went back to jabbering. “I’ve got some stuff to do, but I can drag the s-that thing back to the portal. So?”
The hunters shared a glance, unsure how to handle it. Phantom liked to claim he liked humans and protecting them, but he was a ghost. There had to be something he wanted out of them in return. Or might get violent if refused in the wrong way. At least he shouldn’t be able to see the quickly scrawled message to Jack. ‘You play the doubtful one, I’ll pretend to trust him- it’ll underestimate us’
“As if, spooky! Jack Fenton doesn’t need any ghost’s help!”
The ghost bought the open hostility without a second thought, eyes rolling to a sky that wasn’t here. “Really? I heard tow trucks were expensive out of state! Can’t imagine the out of dimension costs.”
It was going to be difficult to stay civil when it would be so much easier to just demand the ghost stop playing around. “We’re listening. So what do you want?”
“Awwww Mads, we don’t need this punk’s help! He doesn’t even have toes!”
The passion Jack had put into his moping managed to baffle the ghost. “Wait, what? Of course I do! No, stop, why does that matter? I know tows and toes are different things! I’m not that bad of a student, sheesh.” He seemed quite thrown, which was good. If the ghost forgot what the plan had been he might just get lost.
“Yeah, and you don’t have either Phantom!” Her husband managed to keep from laughing, but the shake in his shoulders showed it was a near thing.
Phantom glanced down at the black wispy tail that made up his legs, muttering something. “Well okay I don’t right now, but I normally do!”
It was a bit fascinating that Jack had distracted the ghost from his goal so completely. They’d have to think about an invention that could replicate the effect. “Can we focus please? I already said I’d listen to what you wanted.”
“Oh! Right, sorry,” he coughed, a strangely human expression of embarrassment. “I don’t actually need anything? I just have some stuff to do so you’d need to wait a bit.”
Oh right. Sure, the most dangerous ghost in town wanted to help the ghost hunters that wanted to destroy him ‘just because’. Just wait here while he goes to get some friends to attack them! Honestly, did ghosts think they were stupid? “Then why not tell us when you’re done? We’re not moving very quickly.”
“Cus he wants to make us think we’re safe before WHAM! Outnumbered by cowardly ghosts!” Jack expressed her true feelings effortlessly. “Not that it’d help em!”
“No way, you think I’d leave you guys here where anyone can try something?” The ghost still seemed confused, eyebrows raised and arms crossed. “You guys are here to study or whatever anyway, right? So you can look around while I get my errands done. And you know, you don’t get attacked. Most of the little guys leave me alone.”
As if that was a surprise! A ghost of Phantom’s strength could destroy smaller and weaker entities without effort. Perhaps it was a subtle threat slipping through his mask of ‘helpful child’. The idea of going deeper into the Ghost Zone, completely at his mercy was...well absolutely idiotic. Even if they could probably overcome him...being able to still get some studies done would make it not a complete waste of a trip. “So you think it’s likely we’ll be attacked here, so close to the portal?”
“Yeah, by him!” Jack looked tempted to grab his weapon, but refrained. “So what if we say no, huh?”
“Then I guess you can float here? Up to you, I guess.”
It was strange, to see the cocky ghost a bit hesitant. Even if there was an obvious threat he wasn’t mentioning. “Well if you could pull the Speeder, you could take it even if we don’t want you to.”
“I think that’s called kidnapping.” Phantom’s cocky smirk returned “Which is weird, you’re not kids! Adultnapping? Nah, that sounds dumb.”
“Ah cut the innocent act, we’re not falling for it!”
“Hey, I said it’s up to you! Either you agree to come along and I get you back home, or I just leave you guys to do whatever you plan to do. Even if yes, I could totally just drag the ship anyway. I’m not, because I’m trying to help, remember?” A hint of frustration slid past the confidence at ‘remember’, but the ghost folding his arms behind his head as if kicking back to relax did defang most of the threat. “I don’t have all day here.”
“We don’t have all day either Phantom. We have family to get back to, and no idea how long you plan to be ‘on errands’.” Maddie pointed out, still unsure what they should do. Trusting him was stupid, but he had showed his hand. Refusal might be met with the same result anyway, but ‘agreeing’ might trick the ghost into thinking they fell for his ‘trustworthy’ act.
“Like an hour or two? Not too long.”
“Well I’d use my Fenton Stopwatch! So don’t think you can pretend it’s a shorter time than it is, ghost!”
“Yeah yeah, you do that D-Jack,” he stumbled over the ghost hunter’s name, but otherwise didn’t move from relaxing. “It’s not gonna kill you to trust me for a bit.”
Even though it very much could kill them. He really was a smug bit of ectoplasm, thinking he blended in with humans well enough to be considered one. “So only a few hours, and you won’t stop us from researching or taking samples? Or lead us to a trap?”
“If I wanted people to get threatened by ghosts, I could just take some days off. No trouble, cross my heart. I’d swear to die but I got the jump on that bit,” he snorted at his own joke, but otherwise left the family to consider.
It was just safer to say ‘yes’ so the ghost thought they were fools. It had nothing to do with wanting to salvage something out of this disaster of an expedition. “Yes. We’ll accept your help, this time.”
“And you aren’t getting any thanks until we’re home, got it?” Good, ghost hunter, bad ghost hunter. An easy enough trick. Even if she wished Jack was the ‘trusting’ one. Yelling would feel nice.
“Yeeeah, kinda expected that too. Rude.” The ghost only shrugged before flying up and out of sight. She half expected to hear the ghost grab the Speeder, but they only really noticed when they started moving. Moving very, very quickly.
She couldn’t help it, her curiosity tamped down some of the fear she should be feeling, pointing out interesting landmasses as they passed, Jack just as enthusiastic to discuss what caused them, if the ghost built them or they were simply generated when a ghost squirmed into existence. A great castle that seemed familiar, an island with some sort of skull as a decoration and thousands of doors. Most ghosts they only could get sparing glimpses at, even when carrying an entire vehicle the ghost boy was fast. Ridiculously so. She thought it was his small figure that contributed to how quickly the pest could move- how the ghost could just vanish out of range in moments. That most of the power behind his physical attacks came from the speed they were delivered with instead of raw strength. Clearly that was an incorrect hypothesis, moving this quickly and carrying so much extra weight without any real difficulty. They slowed near what seemed to be another castle, though it was much less foreboding looking then the other one.
That sinking dread returned after they landed. She had some landmarks, but this much distance would be a big ask to get back. That, and this castle seemed more...occupied, judging by some humanoid ghosts loitering near the gates. One even waved. To them, or the ghost carrying them?
“Okayyy so. Ground rules? Don’t shoot anyone. None of these guys even go through the portal, they’re not the fighting type. Other than that? Have fun, I guess?” He’d stopped floating, standing on the ground beside their stalled craft. He didn’t look as if preparing to fight, which is what she’d assumed the ghost meant by ‘errands’. So what was he up to?
“We won’t do anything if they don’t.” A lie, honestly, but the ghost nodded.
“Wait, what’s that stuff for?” White gloves pointed at the masks the ghost hunters were pulling from under the seats. “Like you can hear me, there’s air out here.”
“It might be safe for ghosts, but we aren’t ghosts.”
Phantom opened his mouth as if to protest before shutting it with a frown. Strange, it was hard to get him to shut up most of the time.
“Nice try, we’re not gonna choke on ghost air today, Phantom!” Jack chuckled, adjusting his mask before popping open the hatch.
“I wasn’t expecting you to- oh whatever. Just don’t embarrass me,” he sounded like a sulking kid, only glancing at them for a moment before kicking off the ground to fly closer to the castle. Off to fight whoever ‘owned’ this area, perhaps?
“Well look at that! Regular plants!” Jack shook her from her pondering, crouched over what looked like a tended to flower bed near the walls. “Well, ghost plants that aren’t trying to attack. Think we should sketch em for the kids?”
“Well Jazz has been more interested in ghosts lately, I suppose.” It was interesting, but she was more curious about the ghost meandering past the walls. They seemed docile, almost like people just walking and apparently talking with one another. Not attempting to fight for territory or resources. Perhaps they were just repeating the memories of their lives over and over? Yet none of them had reacted badly to Phantom zipping past either. A different breed of ghost, perhaps? Or ghosts often had ‘kings’ that kept the lesser ones from squabbling. The large brute of a ghost that stole the town had claimed to be a king of sorts, and this was another castle...but she didn’t want to test anything by getting their attention. They might only act savagely towards humans, being jealous of those still alive after all.
“Yeah, she has! Danno might not like em, but that goth chick he’s eyeing might like em too!” He was already sketching away, quickly getting the basics. He’d fill in the details from memory back home. “You want to try seeing if those ones talk? Not sure how the ghost kid thinks we could embarrass him, ha!”
“Oh he was probably just trying to insult us. He likes to pretend to be a teenager,” she waved that question away, double checking her weapon was easy to reach in case of an emergency. No reason to make their predicament worse by being unprepared. While still considering to go near those ghosts instead of safely observing from a distance. Jack’s enthusiasm was too infectious, really, but that’s how they made so many discoveries!
The ghosts didn’t object to her moving closer, but she kept off the busier paths to be safe. So many stalls of what seemed to be goods, clothing and paintings, rugs and nick knacks. Well, the ghosts didn’t need anything to live, so it would make sense for them to prioritize other items first, but the art was strange. What did the dead know of creativity? Were these all recreations of something found in life? No, some of the paintings had the green skies of the Ghost Zone, implying at least some ‘new’ thought. They were strange, very unlike the wild animals that often attacked the town, or the showy inhuman mimics that tried to claim world domination. They just looked like greener, more transparent people. Barely any of them even floated much. They’d need new categories, they broke too many rules that stayed true on Earth.
“Oh that’s a lovely shade of blue! I wish I could make something like it.” The voice echoed, but it wasn’t growling or mocking. In fact, the ghost woman who had paused beside the hunter was smiling warmly, despite the dead red eyes. “Are you just visiting for a bit?”
“We’re mostly stuck going wherever the ghost boy is taking us, our ship broke down,” Maddie struggled not to frown, her natural inclination to get away from the still potentially dangerous ghost strong with so many fights. She could tell it the truth, in a sense. Phantom was far more likely to be dangerous then this waif of a woman. How she could move in so many ruffles was baffling.
“Oh dear! Well if he’s any trouble you can let Dorthea know, she’s a caring ruler. A human helped her get her rightful throne back, so I’m sure she’d be happy to help!” The ghost tittered a little, as if expecting that to be obvious.
So the ghost did know she was human? Far more alarming was the idea some other human had been dragged this far from home, possibly trapped. Maybe this would turn into a rescue mission. Unless it was too late for them, a distinct possibility. “Oh really? How did that happen?”
“Oh I don’t really know the details, but it was a human that inspired our good Queen that she didn’t need to fear that tyrant and she could fight back. I wish I’d seen it!”
It was disquieting how human the ghost sounded, a friendly sort of gossip. If only she had a way to record it. “The human got back home after helping, right?”
“Well I assume so, she had no intentions of staying here very long, that’s for sure!” She laughed easily, apparently blind to Maddie’s confusion and apprehension, or just unable to see it past the mask and goggles. “I’m fairly sure Sir Phantom took her back, you could ask him.”
Sir? That town terrorizing scoundrel was respected around here? And had been taking humans out of the ghost zone? Probably because he made whoever it was get here in the first place, just to rescue them. Was that why he was here? To stage some new act with this ghost queen? “Right, I might do that.” Would she? This morning she hadn’t expected to talk to ghosts, let alone multiple.
“Oh! If you see any of those angry blobs you can just run back towards the guards and they’ll deal with it. It’s their job, and they’re quite good at it. I actually considered doing that job for a bit, but I like looking after the plants more. Maybe I’ll switch in a decade or two!” The ghost kept talking, apparently taking Maddie’s lack of further questions as permission to keep chattering.
“Can’t you deal with them yourself?” Attacking ghost blobs was something she knew about, and if this ghost was strong enough to mimic humans, shouldn’t it be able to deal with the much less sophisticated tactics of blobs?
“Me? Oh no, I’m not not trained. Do you still have lions on the other side? It would be like trying to fight one of those with a stick!” She laughed, but not unkindly.
“You’re both ghosts though, aren’t you?” Perhaps they differentiated themselves by name in the Ghost Zone? It would lend some evidence to the ‘different breeds’ of ghost hypothesis she was rapidly stringing together.
She tapped at her chin for a moment at the question. “I suppose we are, but they’re more like animals. They might have always been animals, or never alive at all! It’s perfectly safe here though, they usually fight more among themselves.”
Well that was fascinating. Some ghosts didn’t instinctively know how to fight and had to be taught? Yet didn’t consider themselves completely separated from the more animalistic ectoplasmic terrors. Perhaps the more ‘domestic’ setting here made the ghosts less feral and more reliant on their previous memories. Well, the ghost could be lying, but she couldn’t see the benefit she’d gain from deception here. “So you’re kind of stuck here then? We saw a lot of those outside of this place.”
“No no, we’ve got safer ways to travel than just flying around! Not all of us are that brave, dear. Though I don’t think I’d want to stay somewhere else very long anyway. Here it’s safe, all my friends are here and we have one of the largest markets in the whole Ghost Zone. Other ghosts come to us!” There was a hint of pride as she spoke about her ‘home’, gesturing over to some of the stalls Maddie hadn't had time to look at before getting interrupted. “I was really hoping to get something from the seven armed bloke over there, but he’s not very interested in my clothing. Maybe next time.”
Said ‘bloke’ had far too many eyes to go with the arms, and a collection of honestly terrifying little statues with strange designs that made her head hurt if she looked at it too long. A clear outsider to the more human ones, but not causing a stir. So much for constantly fighting out groups, but they barely had anything in common either! Not to mention engaging in some kind of simplistic trading. “So this happens often?”
“Pretty much. It’s fun to make new things, but you get bored of just your own stuff after a few centuries you know? So we swap and find new things.”
Well of course, it’s not like the ghosts needed to trade for something vital to existence. Swapping ‘things’ made more sense in that context. So why weren’t any trying to trade strength or favours? Or simply taking what they wanted? Was it related to having a queen? She had so many questions that knowing what ones needed to be asked was next to impossible. “I suppose you would. How can you tell if a ghost that comes is peaceful?”
“Asking!” She laughed again, apparently finding the question funny. So they didn’t deal with constant attacks from spectres like Phantom trying to ‘take over?’ Why?
“Oh geeze, I’m so sorry if she said anything about trying to-” Phantom’s voice interrupted her thoughts, the ghost suddenly floating beside the other ghost and sputtering.
“Sorry? She’s been perfectly lovely! Haven’t you- oh I’m so rude, I didn’t even get your name!” the ghost tisked at herself, once again strangely apologetic.
“Wait, she has?” His doubtful tone made the ghost hunter scowl. As if he had any room to judge them.
“We’re scientists, not uncontrollable monsters.” Like him. She was fairly sure he caught the implication when the boy muttered something she couldn’t hear.
“Cool. Anyway, got another stop, then I’ll get you two back home.” He still hovered, glancing between the two of them a few times. “Oh. Maddie, that’s her name.”
“Lovely speaking with you Maddie! Had a good trip back, I’m Guenivier if you’re ever in the area again,” she smiled and gave another wave before somehow drifting back into the crowd without displacing even a bit of that dress.
“Who said you can give out my name?” Maddie hissed, once certain the other ghost was out of earshot.
He leaned back on teenager mannerisms, scoffing and heading away. “Because she wanted to know and thinks you aren’t a total ghost hater? It’s not gonna hurt anything.”
“How can I know you don’t have a way to locate people by name?”
He was rolling his eyes again as if she was being ridiculous. “You live in a house with a giant glowing sign. Not exactly subtle.”
“That isn’t in the ghost zone.”
“It’s attached to the ghost zone, it totally counts.”
It really was like arguing with a teenager when he bantered on like this. “Just don’t do it again.”
“Yes ma’am. Sheesh.” He hopped on top of the speeder, kicking his heels against the side. “Hey Jack, you coming?”
“Coming!” he bellowed back, jogging over from the patch of plants she’d left him at. However, he wasn’t just carrying his notebook, but a folded glowing bit of cloth. Some sort of tapestry judging by all the stitching? “Just wanted to get a few more lines done-” he broke off after spotting his wife, apparently reminded that he shouldn’t be so chummy with the ghost. “I mean I leave when I want to, you can’t boss Fentons around!”
“Oh come onnn, can you pretend you don’t hate me for like five minutes? I’m not even doing anything!” Phantom complained, flopping backwards onto the Speeder. “You were totally having a good time”.
“How did you get that, dear?” Maddie chose to ignore their sulking captor and instead look at what Jack managed to gather besides sketches.
“Oh, one of the ghosties liked my pictures and asked to trade for one! So I gave em a page for this! We can study how they made it back home, neat huh?”
Apparently he hadn’t been too worried about it being a trap, but a picture he’d just sketched wasn’t a big ask for something that could teach them a lot about the ghosts in here, so it was a good trade nonetheless. “You did great sweetie. Just make sure to store it safely, just in case.”
“Already on it sweet cheeks!” He was indeed, already pulling out a large sample bag to store their find before opening the hatch again.
“Ew. I changed my mind, go back to threatening me. Sappy is worse.”
Well, at least the ghost regretted his actions a bit. He’d be more sorry if he tried anything, but this did just seem to be something to sooth that hero complex it had. So far, anyway. She was tempted to ask the ghost what it had been up to at the castle, but it didn’t really matter. He’d just lie anyway, he clearly wasn’t the same sort of ghost as the weaker ones back there.
“Ha, he crumples in the face of our love Madds!” Jack laughed, hugging his wife and they got comfortable back in the speeder. “You think he’d take us back home if I said how much I love ya?”
“I so don’t need to hear this.” He was muffled, apparently still flopped on the speeder. He didn’t add anything before the Speeder lifted from the ground and resumed speeding through the strange green expanse.
“Clearly he buys his own teenager delusion.” Maddie mused, content to rest against Jack and look through his sketches. “Did they seem strangely lifelike to you too?”
“Oh sure! They just talked and didn’t even seem interested in going to the human world! Even though one was very jealous of how bright my jumpsuit is.” He leaned a bit to flick a few pages forward. “I sketched a couple and got their names, so we can see if we can look em up. See if they’re similar to their old selves according to history and all.”
“That’s a good idea. I didn’t get a complete name, but apparently they have jobs? Not like the wilder ghosts, and they do have a queen…” she paused, remembering the ‘human’ Phantom apparently ‘helped home. “Hey! You did help someone home from the ghost zone before, did you?”
“Huh? Oh! Yeah, she’s back safe. Wasn’t even a whole day.” He sounded distracted, or at least surprised by the question.
It could be a valuable lead. That, and the human might need help after such an experience. Who knew how ecto contaminated they might be! “Who was it?”
“How should I know? Just because I’m in town a lot doesn’t mean I know everyone’s name.”
She frowned, glancing at Jack who only shrugged. So he hadn’t heard that story, only her. “You know ours.”
“Because you shout them at me and shoot at me a lot? Pretty easy to remember!”
“Ghost kid’s got a point.” Jack admitted, patting her on the shoulder. “We’ll just find who it is ourselves! Just an extra project.”
“What, and just make their life weird again by bringing up ghost stuff? Leave em alone.”
Well now they absolutely had to look into it, if Phantom wasn’t keen on the idea. Better to let him think they agreed though. “True, it could just lead you back to them.”
“Hey! This is all you, not me!”
Jack chuckled. “You’re really good at riling him up. Almost sounds like our Danny like that, getting all touchy about fun family activities!”
“Well he probably copies behaviour from local teenagers,” she didn't like that comparison though. Their children were nothing like life destroying ghosts. It was better to turn her attention to the passing green and how the amount of doors seemed to dwindle as masses of ice started to become the most prominent detail. That made more sense, actually. Phantom had started using ice in addition to ectoblasts, if he came from somewhere with this sort of climate it seemed less out of place with his other abilities. Even if he was otherwise ill suited to snow and ice with how he insisted on looking like a kid.
The next stop felt more like a mistake, with only hills of untouched white powder and ice to see, but the crunch of snow below confirmed they were no longer moving. Good thing they came prepared with heated coats!
“Not a whole lot around here! If it wasn’t for all the green we could pretend we were in Alaska.” Jack chattered as he shrugged a coat on, still apparently too excited to look around to keep his suspicion up. “They don’t all like castles, or maybe it’s a hidden one!”
He better not be thinking Santa had an ice castle. That was probably what he was thinking of, but she didn’t really want to bring up their annual argument at the moment. He could be wrong today, there were more important things to do. “You do realize it’s a frozen wasteland you’ve stranded us on?”
“It’s not that cold.” Phantom objected, circling the Speeder idly.
“Easy for a ghost to say, you’re always cold ghost kid!”
He stopped at that, glancing back at Jack. “It's not that bad, is it?”
“Only because we brought warm clothing. Jumpsuits aren’t enough for the living.” Maddie huffed, looking at the snowfields to find anything worth looking at. The structures of ice were somewhat interesting, but not inherently ghostly.
“Well you guys can stay here, I guess.” The ghost bit at his lip, playing up the concern now that they pointed out a frozen wasteland was cold. Honestly, how did anyone fall for Phantom’s act if he made mistakes like this? “I don’t think Frostbite’s people come out this far…”
“Oh, are they dangerous? We can take any of your little ghostly pals!”
Phantom looked as if Jack suggested exploding a building. “No! Don’t fight any of them! They just look scary, okay? Just ignore them, if any show up.” He didn’t wait for a response before flying off this time, apparently in much more of a hurry this time.
“Sounds like he’s worried about what we can do to his little pals, huh?” Jack elbowed his wife with a grin. “Well, maybe we can find something weird about the ice here!”
It was better to try getting some of the ghost ice instead of doing nothing, though she doubted it would be very different from regular ice, beyond the ectocontamination. Now what would a ghost think is ‘scary looking’? He hadn’t given such a warning when close to all of the other ghosts, after all. It was a bit of a mystery, and none of the ice here had any identifying marks or hints of another odd little ghost ‘civilization’. ‘Frostbite’ wasn’t much of a name either, perhaps they were more like the wild sort that came to Amity?
“Oh hoh! Look at this!” Jack yelled out, pointing to something below him as he waved her over.
A large, clawed footprint left in the snow, and fairly deep. So something monstrous after all, as expected. “Maybe we can get a cast of it?” They had supplies for it, but she wasn’t certain if it would work in the ice correctly. The tracks didn’t go for long, but following them wasn’t a very tantalizing idea. Better to keep a distance and be well armed if they wanted to tangle with whatever left this. It wasn’t as distracting as the previous stop, but the sound of crunches increasing in volume had the couple back on edge and wary.
“Seriously, we should just go-”
It sounded like the ghost boy was near wherever the crunches were coming from, which didn’t improve her mood one iota.
“Nonsense! I have been asking to meet them for how long?” A deep, growling and carrying voice came in response as Maddie readied a weapon.
“Yeah, that’s the problem. You don’t want to, trust me.”
“Seems he doesn’t have a very high opinion of ghost hunters, eh Mads?” Jack was less noticeably readied, still half crouched near the footprint, but his hand hovered where a weapon was concealed. She focused on her breathing as the sound grew louder, eyes narrowed as she spotted a large figure cresting the nearby hill. With the little white haired ghost boy completely at ease near it. Nothing like his regular behaviour, let alone the talking. Why would this huge beast know of them?
“What did I say about not shooting people?” Phantom actually seemed to blush on seeing her holding the weapon, smacking his face. “Okay, you saw them, bye now!”
The large furred creature ignored how the smaller ghost pushed at their shoulder, instead waving with a horrific ice claw, bones gleaming from within as it seemed to rip at the very air. “Well our first meeting was hardly perfect either, I can manage.”
“Yeah but I can’t just pull a ‘won’t shoot a big yeti’ icicle out of their jumpsuits!”
For a human loving ghost, Phantom was certainly very concerned about this giant horned monster being harmed by ‘mere humans’. More proof of his act, at least. Though the large creature did have a cloak of some sort and clothing. He spoke well, if you ignored the fanged mouth and growls. A strange contradiction of appearance and intent. That wasn’t a normal thing for ghosts either, you could gather a decent amount about one by how they looked. So why was this one chatting and apparently interested in seeing two humans? “So, you’re the ‘Frostbite’ he mentioned?” She hazarded a guess, but wasn’t going to put the gun away.
It showed its fangs, maw wide and unnerving. “Yes, I am! It is an honour to meet you” The furry head bowed slightly, as if trying a sort of nod of respect. “Your work assisted the Great One in vanquishing Pariah Dark, we all owe you a debt of gratitude.”
“Please don’t call me that. Especially in front of them!” the green eyed ghost practically squawked, somehow flushing even harder when he didn’t even have blood.
Maddie’s mind almost flipped over from the sheer confusion of what this terrifying ghost said. They had ‘helped’ vanquish something? More likely, Phantom had stolen something. So why did this ghost still give them credit? That wasn’t even starting to touch why the ghost boy would be considered great in any aspect. “Assisted him? Do you mean with that ghost who took our town into the Ghost Zone?” She wasn’t sure if that was what the ‘king’ ghost was called, but it made more sense than anything else she could think of.
“Indeed. The King of All Ghosts would have sent the infinite realms into chaos and conflict. Of course we are grateful for your help in preventing that.”
“That’s when you stole the Ecto Skeleton!” Jack spoke up, no longer tense. “You never brought it back.”
“That’s not my fault, that thing almost wasted me! It was gone once I woke up!” The boy objected, but seemed to settle down when the larger ghost ruffled his hair. “I wanted to bring it back.”
“I’m sure now they understand how vitally important that technology was, for your world and ours.” The ghost’s yellow eyes watched them expectantly, the unnerving void of pointed daggers thankfully closed now.
“Well it did get Amity back where it belonged.” Losing the Ecto Skeleton had been a blow, but an acceptable one to get back to normal. The fact that more ghosts seemed to know and care about their part of it was somewhat unnerving. She very much doubted Phantom just ‘lost’ it either. Jack suffered from the demands of the suit, but the ghost was just ectoplasm and electricity. Quite unlikely he could be drained that much, it wasn’t meant for ghosts to use in the first place.
“Your world? Doesn’t the kid live here?” Jack asked, making his wife blink. She hadn’t noticed that odd phrasing.
“No, no. The Great One prefers the human world and his friends. How are they doing?”
He froze up, eyes flicking to the hunters and back to the yeti. “Fine. They’re great.” He darted closer to the two hunters, gesturing at them to move. “Okay let’s go.”
How much interacting was this ghost doing with humans to have ‘friends’ it told other ghosts about? They could be in danger, or used as targets! “No no, we’d love to hear about your friends.”
“Nope, you don’t, gotta get home right? Big hurry, don’t trust me, remember?” He was practically pleading with them.
Frostbite’s ears twitched as he tilted his head. “Don’t trust you? Surely they’re the ones who taught your friends how to drive that craft of yours?”
Phantom had the gall to turn invisible.
“We were unaware anyone other than us was using it, actually.” Maddie didn’t bother to keep the frost from her voice.
“Ah, well at least the good news is I already knew how to make a replacement battery for it when the Great One came asking for help.” His tail twitched, as one of the great claws scratched at his furry chest. “It should be good as new once you can install it.”
So not only was this ghost stealing technology and bringing humans to the ghost zone, it was teaching other ghosts how it worked! The second that ghost was in their grasp, he’d have some serious answering to do. “Do all of you call him that?” It was the only question she could ask without wishing to spit acid, quite frankly.
“All of the Far Frozen recognize him as such, but not all ghosts are the same. He should be proud of the title, a savour of two worlds.”
“Frostbite I’m begging you, stop! It’s embarrassing!” The ghost dropped his invisibility, still looking more like a flustered kid instead of the heroics seeking fame junkie he was.
“Well if it helps your relationship with these ghost hunters, I think it is important that they know.”
“Yeah no. Let’s not.”
It felt like there was something the two ghosts weren’t saying. That, and the fact Phantom didn’t seem to like being hailed as a hero here in the Ghost Zone didn’t make sense. Why all the grandstanding in Amity then?
“Well we’ll be glad for the lift home. You shouldn’t steal from us, kid.” Jack tried a stern approach, and the ghost actually flinched from the rebuke.
“You’re not the only ones who want to map this place out, that’s all,” he didn’t really seem to be answering them, more talking to himself before launching himself at the Speeder again. “You can shoot at me about it back home or whatever.”
“Travel safely! Do try and explore your other half more often, Great one. You’re always welcome here.” His great furry head watched them all easily, seeking out the ghost hunters eyes as well. "I understand you are less interested, but you are welcome to see the realities of my home as well. It may surprise you, in a good way."
She desperately wanted to ask what that monster of a ghost meant by that, but managed to hold her tongue. If all the ghosts here saw Phantom as some sort of godlike hero, chewing him out here wasn’t safe. Jack’s small nod of agreement and warm hug helped, but it couldn’t stop her mind churning. They’d seen and hurt so much, and none of it made any sense! This Frostbite just threw in several more wrenches in the works with only a few sentences, but with how agitated Phantom was getting now wasn’t the time to push their luck. Perhaps when the shoe was on the other foot, and the boy needed their assistance.
He didn’t speak up or grumble this time as they left the frozen land behind. Though that might be them as well,m sitting close together and considering the notes and samples they had taken. That and the huge list of questions Jack had scrawled down in the margins of a sketch of Frostbite. How could a ghost like Phantom truly manage to stay in the human world most of the time? Did it have to do with this ‘other half’ that ghost had mentioned? Would knowing what it was reveal a weakness in the ghost? So many questions, but no answers. Why had Phantom even let them speak to any ghosts, considering how badly he’d reacted to some of the information given? He couldn’t genuinely be wanting to help.
The inviting glow of the portal appeared sooner than either of them could expect, the ghost dropping the ship on the lab floor with a loud clunk.
“See? Home. No ‘evil plan’” he floated into view, and she was fairly sure he only did so to make those air quotes with his hands.
“So you say, ghost kid. Don’t think we won’t be checking for tricks!”
“Yeah sure,” he shrugged, grinning after a moment. “Oh hey, by the way, you do know what the Speeder is powered with, right?”
Maddie didn’t actually know how to take that question. “Of course we do, we built it!”
“Uh huh.” His grin widened as he kicked back, legs vanishing into that strange tail. “All you had to do was take the cover off. It’s the Ghost Zone! There’s ectoplasm everywhere! I just had Frostbite make a backup.”
...Had they really- They had. They’d been dragged around by a ghost for no reason at all! “Why you little-”
He kept laughing before turning and getting out of the way. “Thanks for flying with Phantom Zone Tours! I’m out.” A jaunty wave and he was gone, leaving two baffled ghost hunters behind.
“I think some fudge is in order after that!”
She couldn’t say he was wrong. Maybe fudge could make sense of that whole affair. All that for a prank? It didn’t add up. They’d have a lot of work to do.

Summary: Inuyasha & Kagome discuss starting a family
Tumblr media
“Knee,” Kagome whined softly as her foot prodded her husband’s leg so it would go where she wanted, “Knee Inuyasha.”
With a tired sigh, Inuyasha slid his foot up until it rested comfortably against his thigh and adjusted his hips so falling asleep in that position wouldn’t make him lock up. It was a tried and true ritual. One that he didn’t mean to perpetuate but Kagome was always the last one to go to bed. Always. So by the time she changed and brushed her hair and washed her face and did whatever else she felt inclined to do, he was typically asleep in a position he found comfortable. Kagome told him he slept like a vampire but having met and fought vampires Inuyasha had no idea what she was talking about. Besides, he didn’t know why it had always seemed to matter how he slept. Sitting up had just been how he’d done it for over a hundred years and even though three years had gone by, he still wasn’t used to those while laying down business. Having a body trained not to move wasn’t ideal for laying down and he usually woke up stiff. His muscles locking up for absolutely no reason out of habit. Sitting up, having muscles that locked was useful. Not so for how the rest of the world went down for the night.
Still, Kagome slept laying down. Always had. Always would. And he planned on sleeping next to her for the rest of her hopefully long life. Which killed the monk. Even occasional overnight exorcisms were out of the question. Sunup to sundown only.
“That better?” he yawned and Kagome nodded against the arm she was using as a pillow while Inuyasha’s hand absently played with tendrils of her hair.
One of the things he liked best was that in this position he could feel her ribs expand with each breath and the steady rhythm was soothing. Every couple found a sleeping position that worked for them it would seem and with his primary issue being hardwired survival anxiety, a cuddling position where no backs were being exposed worked best.
Problem with this position was that it’d make co-sleeping with an infant dangerous. Not that…that they were trying or even planning on having brats. Hell, they’d never spoken about it but by some unspoken understanding, they’d been careful. Kinda. Sometimes. Okay, fine, mainly they’d been whinging it and been lucky as hell.
But…you know…maybe one day…
Lips twitching upward, Inuyasha allowed himself to imagine what their own puffy blob of flesh would look like. Newborn babies…well they weren’t exactly the cutest things in the planet. More they looked like boiled prunes - both in color and looks. And the screams. But once they hit a few months old they definitely started looking more like tiny people and you could start seeing the parents. From a strangers perspective anyway. Miroku’s twins had always looked identical but they went through phases and who they favored depended on which parent was standing closest….
God he hoped whatever they had one day - not that he was even sure they’d have babies - was a girl. He’d make a decent looking boy or girl. After all, minus the coloring, he looked just like his mother who had been very pretty. Kagome…Kagome would only make a pretty girl. Sota sure as hell didn’t look like her though so maybe there were some okay looking boy genes in there but Inuyasha for the life of him could not imagine what a Kagome-looking boy would even be.
Nah. If they did one day have a…
“Why you purring?” Kagome hummed bemusedly in such a way that left him powerless to stop said noise. A noise that he’d only discovered he made since she fell back into his life. At first it bothered him that she called the chest growl thing a ‘purr’ but seeing as how he didn’t have a better name, he just rolled with it.
“Dunno,” he laughed softly.
“What were you thinking about?” Kagome hummed as she slowly and awkwardly began trying to roll towards him - something which had the purring noise stop immediately. It didn’t matter that his brain knew they were safe and there was no need to worry about being exposed. His body though….was hard wired to worry.
She froze.
“I didn’t…”
“S’not the question. It’s the stupid back thing,” Inuyasha reassured her wearily before running one hand over his face, “Look, I was thinking about us having kids, alright?”
The slow smile that bloomed on her lips as she sat up brought the soft purring sound back.
“And what were your initial thoughts?” Kagome asked curiously and the purring sound intensified.
“How newborns look like meat sacks,” he offered as he stretched his legs out and yawned, “And how they’re loud. And obnoxious. And how they shit everywhere…”
“Ah but said things made you happy,” Kagome observed and shrugging, Inuyasha didn’t deny it. Couldn’t anyway given the vibrations rumbling from his chest. Well, that was what they assumed it meant anyway. Could be he was dying or something. Wouldn’t that be the final kick in the balls.
“Thinking about it and living it are two different things. Reality is I’d fuck them up,” Inuyasha countered with an ill-checked half-grin, “You’d have to go around fixing them all the time.”
“You’d be a good daddy,” Kagome soothed as she lay back down and stared up at the ceiling - allowing Inuyasha to fully relax by covering her back. She never really thought of Inuyasha as the anxious type but apparently that was his secret to surviving so long and once they’d figured it out and pinned down his triggers to better avoid them, he’d actually been significantly less…grumpy. In fact, he could be downright pleasant most of the time.
Miroku and Sango had told her on more than one occasion that Inuyasha seemed, at times, like a completely new person. In public, he was still by and large snippy and obstinate but among friends and in private, his natural state of being sans anxiety was much more Kagome-like than any of them previously believed. Looking back, he had always seemed to find comfort in being around others but he was never what anyone would call sensitive or attune to emotional needs of others. In recent months, however, he’d been surprisingly observant, kind and gentle.
Well, actually it wasn’t all that surprising. The gentleness yes but the rest of it? No. Every time one of them lost it during the quest, Inuyasha was always the one who stepped up and did exactly the right thing to bring his friends’ minds back to center. In fact, his brand of abrasive encouragement was what saved their souls from being devoured by the moth demon’s trap. Whenever any of them felt like giving up, Inuyasha had been the one to encourage them to keep going. In some ways Inuyasha was so forgiving it was beyond understanding. For all his insults and for all his aggression, Inuyasha could be…damningly gracious. Kikyo being, well, Kikyo. Sango stealing his sword. Miroku trying to kill him. Shippo pulling trick after trick. None of those things ever drove him away.
That wasn’t to say Inuyasha didn’t get irritable or react poorly when said things happened but he did tend to let things go eventually and truly act like nothing happened. And his brand of love was protection and providing so there was that too.
So maybe it wasn’t all that surprising that being kind and gentle was his calm state of being. Now that he was more comfortable and no one was in imminent danger of dying a horrible, painful death; now that Kagome had been returned to him and everything worked out, how his natural being manifested was different was all.
But his anxiety still did rear it’s ugly head on occasion. New things. Unexpected things. Any slightly uncomfortable thing and he’d instantly snap his abrasive behavior back into place. There were also his triggers of course but those could be negated.
For example, he never slept with his back exposed and now that Kagome was, sorta, an extension of himself, his body decided to make him skittish at night if she too was left ‘open to attack.’ Not fun for anyone involved - the amount of twitching alone had kept them both awake until they figured out the issue.
“Don’t know how to be a father,” he sighed sadly - the purring sound grounding to halt, “So maybe…maybe kids isn’t something we should do. What…what if I hurt them? They won’t be like me. They’ll be mostly human. I’ll be too rough.”
“No because of that fear, I imagine you’d treat them like they might shatter,” Kagome pointed out and with that, Inuyasha reached over to intertwine their fingers.
“I could turn one day. You…or they might get hurt and I’ll make it worse,” he offered in a small voice, “I’m dangerous. I shouldn’t…and what if they can’t control what I give them? What if they’re born and…and they’re just like that all the time?”
Turning her head to look at his defeated face, Kagome sighed and waited for him to look at her. When he did, the worry mixed with longing made her heart ache. He wanted kids. That much was clear from his expression as was the fact that he didn’t trust himself.
“Inuyasha, I always bring you back, don’t I?” she pointed out and with a faint nod of acknowledgment, her statement seemed to soothe some of the anxiety that needed checking, “And our baby will be part me too. So it’ll have both….”
“It could purify itself. Hurt itself,” he countered shakily, “And we’re happy just the two of us. What if I’m a bad father and you end up hating me? What if it ends up being a mistake? Ruins everything?”
“I will never abandon you,” Kagome promised as she brought his hand up to her lips and gave his thumb a quick kiss, “Never.”
A nod and a relieved sigh. Like he knew that to be the case but wanted to hear it anyway. There was still some tension though which meant his fears hadn’t been addressed completely and so Kagome waited for him to continue. It had taken a few months but anymore he discussed everything with her. From feelings to fears to his past. The only thing off the table was Kikyo but that was more her hang up than his.
From his perspective, he found himself much lighter when he heard her opinion rather than just imaging what she was thinking. His inner monologue was usually depressing and rather cruel. Always assuming everyone hated him or was upset with him in some way. That everyone thought the worst. How he needed to receive love was verbal affirmations. Kagome would’ve thought it was touch but she discovered words were much more effective. What would’ve happened if she just told him back then how deeply he was loved? But, alas, she didn’t and it didn’t matter. In fact, that would’ve been worse. What if he achieved this and then had her taken away?
“I mean, do you want kids? You’ve never really said…” Inuyasha asked wearily and Kagome knew if she said yes, he’d do whatever she wanted. Even if it terrified him.
No. This needed to be his choice. His decision.
“What do you want?”
For a long moment, he was quiet before he swallowed and closed his eyes.
“I think you want them,” he answered evasively before pulling up one knee and fidgeting slightly, “And I don’t know. I want…I want, you know, the type of things Sango and Miroku have with their brats. And what I had with my mother before she got sick. I want someone to…to…you know, there’s just some type of connection. I…I wouldn’t mind being a brat’s person.”
“Their person?” Kagome asked curiously and Inuyasha let out a long sigh as he swayed his knee.
“Like…like you know they’ll take care of you. You scrape your knee. They fix it. You get hungry, they give you snacks. You get sad and just…just they….,” Inuyasha floundered before seemingly choosing a word to describe what he meant, “A helper. I wouldn’t mind being their helper.”
“You’d be the best helper,” Kagome sighed affectionately and Inuyasha eyes fluttered open.
“You really think so? I don’t have the…the warm thing going…”
Nodding, Kagome gently rolled onto her side and scooted her back against his torso. Like clockwork, he assumed their former position and sighed contentedly.
“You…” she belatedly started to address his comment but he was already off to the races.
“I could work on that though. You know, with the twins,” Inuyasha opined hopefully - like he was trying to convince her that he could be a good father and encourage her to say yes, “See…see if I could get better at the whole…whole warm thing. I bet I could get the hang of it in a month or two. I mean look at how fast I mastered Tessaiga. You wouldn’t have to worry about…about me scarring the kid.”
“That has never been a concern,” Kagome chided affectionately earning a frustrated grunt. Oh yeah, he was trying to get her to just make the decision or convince her to just agree with his decision. A decision he’d clearly already made.
“Inuyasha, I know you’d be a great daddy,” Kagome finally yawned - earning a faint blush, “But don’t push yourself just because you think I want this. I only want babies if you do too. I’m honestly okay either way.”
She felt him inhale deeply.
“I think…I think I’ll see if…if I can do the warm thing then we can decide,” Inuyasha hummed before adding hesistantly, “I think I can do it but I wanna be sure.”
“I…”
“I mean, I’m pretty sure I could do it,” Inuyasha continued to think out loud, “But I just want to be sure, ya know? And I want you to be sure I’m good for it.”
At this, Kagome laughed softly despite herself - the hand by her head sliding up to cup his. Curling her fingers between his fingers, she pressed her fingertips against his palm.
“I know you can do…”
“J-just think about it,” Inuyasha interrupted shakily as he gave her hand a light squeeze “A-and I’ll think about it. And we can…talk about it when we’re sure.”
The miko grinned and replied with a soft laugh, “Sure.”
“Will you be mad if I…I think about it and say no?” he asked hesitantly and Kagome shook her head - making some of the tension seep out of him. For a long time, he was quiet and Kagome was just about to pass out when she heard his voice - small and timid - whisper those three little words he didn’t say that often.
“I love you. You know that, right?”
“I know. You show me all the time,” she affirmed and with a timid half-smile, Inuyasha flexed his hand ever so.
“Just want to make sure you know…”
“I do.”
“And you still love me, right?”
“Always.”
“Okay. Just want to make sure…”

"okay, so here's the plan. you're staying in the guest room until jeno's birthday which is in three days. you'll make it, right?" you glanced at the passenger's seat beside you, talking to the 9 weeks old samoyed puppy you got just a few moments ago from the pet barber.
"plus, jeno's not supposed to come home 'til friday." stopping on a red light, you petted the puppy, who was bunched in a blue blanket. "jeno hasn't stopped yapping about how he really wanted a samoyed y'know." the puppy yawned as he stood on his seat, scratching his ear with his hind leg. you smiled as you mumbled a small 'good boy' then continued to focus on driving. you were close to the condo you both lived in, just a few more turns and you're home.
your samoyed was unplanned, to be honest. both you and your boyfriend jeno were huge dog lovers. with jaemin who introduced the breed to him as his twin, jeno simply fell in love with the bear-like dog. although you both were ready in raising a dog, the plan of actually getting one never pushed through, more like being set to the side a couple of times.
but recently hearing that jeno's friend taeyong had his samoyed give birth to a litter of small cub-like puppies, you seized the chance to get one for jeno, just in time for his birthday. and guess what? it only took a few boxes of ferrero rochers and a new dog mattress and bam! you got the puppy without spending thousands.
pulling up in the parking lot, you carried the puppy from his seat on one hand and carried his small dog crate on the other, you were ready to head up the elevator until you saw jeno's car parked a few slots across yours.
"huh?" you stopped in the middle of your trail and looked at the plate number, it was exactly jeno's. you immediately moved to the side placing the crate down and got your phone out of your pocket, calling jeno.
"henlooo?"
"are you upstairs?" you sounded rushed. "yep! we came back from the resort earlier than expected. surprise!"
. .
"sweets?" jeno called out as you lowkey panicked. "y-yeah! hold on uh, the parking is a bit crowded so i'll have to park farther than usual, i'll head up in a bit." you quickly ended the call as you looked at your puppy.
crap crap crap crap
plans were a bit ruined knowing how jeno's back from his trip with his friends earlier than expected. your worry was how would you bring the puppy in without surprising another samoyed who's waiting by the doorstep of your door. you can't leave the puppy in the car, nor you couldn't sleep in the car just to accompany the puppy. time was ticking as your boyfriend was expecting you already upstairs.
but oh thank god that your prayers were heard. walking away from his car, you saw a familiar red-headed guy. it was none other than your friend and neighbor, renjun.
"hOLY SHIT YES!" you quickly ran to renjun juggling the puppy and crate on both hands. scaring the man with your loud voice and footsteps, renjun halted for you to arrive. "did you seriously miss me that mu— awwee how cute!"
quickly putting the crate down, renjun took the puppy from his arms and cradled it, "how cute you are!  what's your name-" the puppy sneezed as renjun smiled and muttered a 'bless you'. " 'sneeze' it is then."
"he's nameless as of now, but please do me a favor." you quickly asked as renjun continued to play with the puppy's paws. "depends, what's your boon this time, y/n?"
"can the pup stay over your room? like, for at least until jeno's birthday?" you clasped your hands together trying to persuade him. "woah, woah, hold on. first, i'm more of a cat guy. second, i'd love to but the puppy would end up chew—"
"taeyong gave me a few of his toys and he got his own bed and food and pad and—"
"just please, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore." renjun knowing how his buddy loved a cute samoyed (obviously he's a witness as well of jeno's constant spazzing) his soft heart ends up agreeing. "if he chews on my slippers, you're getting me a new pair. just saying" he shrugged as he took the dog crate from you as well. "thanks a lot 'junnie!"
"hold on, the dog food?"
shit.
"i'll bring it don't worry"
the dog food was hidden inside your kitchen's cabinet.
-
you headed up ahead to your room, once you did you were tackled in a hug as soon the door opened. "what took you long?" jeno patted your head as he continued to cling to you. "parking was crowded, plus i had a talk with renjun just a while ago." jeno hummed an oh as he continued to stick to you.
"was supposed to surprise you when i got home but you were out, so i took a nap. and also, you smell like dog perfume?" jeno sniffed your shirt, it was the puppy's perfume that stuck to your shirt. "i helped taeyong bathed his puppies, so... yeah."
jeno whined as he starts his spazzing once again, "y/nnn let's get a dog pleasee" you giggled as you remembered you still had to sneak a huge-ass dog food pack to renjun which momentarily was impossible, having a boyfie who was y/n deprived.
"how about after your birthday, hmm?" jeno's signature eye smile showed as he continued to hug you but much tighter. "alright, i'll  head up to pick up a few things."
as soon jeno grabbed his phone and left, you took out the small sack of dog food and rushed to renjun's floor.
finally calming down after changes to your surprise, you excitedly walked over to where renjun and your dog were.
standing in front of the door, you placed the pack down and took your phone; before you could even dial renjun, he called you first.
"i'm in front of your door" you waved to the peephole thinking that renjun was looking through
"uh hey y/n i kinda— wait WHAT?"
the door quickly opened while you motioned to pick up the dog pack. now carrying the dog essential in your arms, you faced renjun.
who was sitting by the living room.
and a jeno who answered the door.
your jaw dropped at the sight of your boyfriend.
"close your mouth, sweets! it's my surprise, not yours. hmm?" jeno taunted as you whined as the surprise backfired.
you stepped into the room as you immediately went for renjun.
"I WAS SUPPOSED TO TELL YOU THAT JENO LEFT A FEW THINGS FOR HIM TO PICK UP," you sat down on the couch and attacked the red-haired guy, "hEY IT WASN'T MY FAULT I FORGOT YOU SUDDENLY SCREAMED AND RAN UP TO ME AWHILE AGO"
you plopped to the floor beside jeno, who was playing with the puppy. "well, surprise love!" jeno giggled as you felt a bit glum, hugging you almost instantly. "i named her cloud~"
you pecked jeno's cheek, you were now raising two samoyed babies.
"jeno sweetie, it's a male though" renjun bursted out laughing as you patted his head, still processing how he finally had a fluffy son who takes after him.

BeChloe Week 2021 - Day 4
Near-Death Experience
"Beca, you left your door unlocked again," Stacie called out as she entered Beca's house. There was no response. "Beca? Are you here?"
Stacie furrowed her brows as she looked around. She saw Beca's keys and phone on the small table by the door. Her laptop bag was sitting on the floor next to the table.
"Beca!?" Stacie called louder. "Answer me, dammit!"
Stacie was worried now and started looking for Beca. She made her way toward the kitchen, calling out for Beca as she went.
"Oh, my God!" Stacie screamed, seeing Beca's lifeless body laying on the floor.
She quickly ran over to Beca and fell to her knees, pulling Beca to her. As the tears fell, she pulled out her phone and dialed 9-1-1.
"9-1-1, what's your emergency?"
"I need an ambulance," Stacie said into the phone. "My friend is unconscious. I just found her laying on her kitchen floor."
"What's the address?"
"1854 Loma Vista Drive in Beverly Hills," Stacie said. "Please tell the ambulance to hurry!"
"I promise you, they are on their way," the 9-1-1 operator said. "I need you to stay on the phone while I get some more information. Are you able to do that?"
"Yes," Stacie said.
"Great, now is your friend breathing?"
"I, um, I don't know," Stacie cried. "I think so. I'm so scared. Please hurry."
"What's your name?"
"Stacie."
"I'm Carla," the 9-1-1 operator said. "You're doing great, Stacie. Can you tell me if the door is unlocked so the EMTs can enter? If it is, do they have your permission to enter the premises once they arrive?"
"Yes," Stacie said. "The door is unlocked. They have permission to enter."
"Thank you for that, Stacie. Now, can you tell me if you see any injuries or bleeding?"
"She has a bump on her forehead," Stacie said. "I don't see any blood anywhere."
"EMTs! We're coming in," a voice yelled from the front door. "Call out so we can find you."
"In the kitchen," Stacie yelled out. She lowered her voice and said into the phone, "The EMTs are here."
"Okay," the 9-1-1 operator said. "I'm going to hang up now."
"Thank you, Carla," Stacie said, ending the call and placing her phone down on the floor next to her.
Two EMTs came hurrying into the kitchen. The first took Beca from Stacie's arms and gently laid her on her back. The other was setting up equipment.
"Can you tell us what happened?" he asked, looking to Stacie.
"I, um, I don't know," Stacie stammered. "I came in and found her like this."
Stacie wiped at the tears that continued to fall down her cheeks.
The EMTs began to work on Beca. They ripped open her shirt and put the electrodes on her chest and turned on the EKG. The machine made two beeping noises and then a constant hum emanated from the machine.
"Where's that beeping coming from?" Beca thought. "It's getting dark. I can't see any-"
"She's flatlining," the first EMT called out.
"BECA!" Stacie screamed.
"Clear!" the EMT called out as he pressed the button on the defibrillator. "No response. Charging again."
Stacie scrabbled back until her back hit the cabinet. Tears continued to stream down her face as she watched the EMTs trying to bring Beca back.
"Come on, Beca," Stacie mumbled. "Fight."
"Come on, Beca. Come see your new baby brother."
"Daddy's not coming back, baby."
"DJing is not a career, Beca. It's a hobby."
"Can you help us make our dream a reality?"
"We're going to be fast friends."
"Clear!" the EMT called out as he pressed the button on the defibrillator.
Beca's body jerked up slightly and limply fell back down to the floor.
"Still no response," the second EMT called out. "Charging."
"No, no, no, no," Stacie chanted as if in a trance. Her eyes never left Beca's body.
"Clear!" the EMT called out as he pressed the button on the defibrillator a third time.
"My heart hurts almost as much as it did when I saw Chloe kissing that soldier guy."
"I wonder if Chloe thinks about me?"
"What's that beeping sound?"
"Chloe! Chloe! Where are you?"
"I love you, Chloe! Come back!"
Beca's body jerked up and fell back down to the floor again, only this time she gasped and sucked air into her lungs.
"She's back!" the EMT called out, causing Stacie to look up at him. "Let's get her on the gurney."
The two EMTs picked Beca up and gently placed her on the gurney, strapping her down.
"Thank God," Stacie mumbled as she wiped her tears.
Beca started to come around as they wheeled her out of the kitchen. The EMT looked down at her.
"Welcome back, Miss Mitchell."
"Chloe?"
~~ Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 4 ~~
"I swear she actually died, Brey," Stacie said, laying her head on Aubrey's shoulder. "They had to shock her three times before she came back."
"Is she okay now?" Aubrey asked.
"I think so; we won't know anything until they finish running tests," Stacie said. "She was talking when they were taking her out of the ambulance. It was hard to understand what she was saying. But, her voice was clear when she kept calling out for Chloe."
"Really?" Aubrey said. "Chloe's going to freak when she hears that."
Stacie softly chuckled. "Those two knuckleheads need to stop pretending there's nothing between them. I swear they might actually be together if Chloe hadn't kissed that soldier after Beca's performance."
"That was a one-and-done for Chloe," Aubrey said. "She told me she was so excited after Beca's performance that she would have jumped the janitor's bones if she had seen him first."
"You mean she was horny after Beca's performance," Stacie said, laughing now.
"Most definitely," Aubrey said, laughing as well.
"Too bad she didn't jump Beca's bones," Stacie said, sobering quickly. "Things would have been so much easier for Beca if she had."
Aubre's laughter stopped as she asked, "Do you think we should call Chloe and tell her about Beca?"
"Let's wait until we know what's going on with Beca first," Stacie said.
"Do you think she'll come out here?"
"I don't know," Stacie said, sighing. "I hope she'll want to. Maybe knowing how close we came to losing Beca will cause Chloe to admit her real feelings to Beca."
~~ Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 4 ~~
"What happened?" a doctor asked as he stepped over to Beca's bed in the emergency room.
"We don't know," a nurse explained. "Her friend found her unconscious on her kitchen floor. There is a burn on her left hand and a bump on her forehead; those are the only injuries we can find."
Beca's heart monitor started beeping loudly and the doctor looked over to see.
"Her heartbeat is irregular," the doctor said. He picked up Beca's left hand and examined the burn there. "The burn must be from an electric shock of some kind. Page Dr. Pierce for a consult."
"Yes, doctor," the nurse said and did as instructed.
"I'm glad I met you," Chloe said, pulling Beca closer to her. "I think we're going to be fast friends."
"Go back, Beca," a voice called out. "You don't belong here. It's not your time."
"Who's there?" Beca cried out.
"My little badass," the voice said, chuckling. "It's only been five years, I can't believe you've forgotten me already."
"Gramps? What are you doing here? What's happening to me?"
"Your microwave had a short in it," Gramps said. "You got quite the shock when you touched it. Your heart stopped and they're trying to-"
"Clear," the doctor called out before pressing the button on the defibrillator.
Beca's body jerked and the heart monitor started beeping with a normal rhythm.
~~ Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 4 ~~
"Beca Mitchell?" a doctor called out to the waiting room.
Stacie and Aubrey jumped up and hurried over to the doctor.
"I'm Stacie Conrad," Stacie said. "I'm Beca's emergency contact. Is she okay?"
"I'm Dr. Malone," the doctor said. "Miss Mitchell is going to be fine."
"Oh, thank God," Aubrey whispered. "Do you know what happened?"
"She told us that all she remembers is her microwave made a weird popping sound and when she reached out to open the door, she felt a shock and then nothing until she woke up with an EMT standing over her," Dr. Malone said. "We believe the microwave gave her an electrical shock that interrupted her heartbeat. The EMTs were able to get her back. It happened again while we were examining her and again we were able to bring her back. She is one tough lady. We want to keep her overnight and run some tests. She's being put into a room and you should be able to see her shortly."
"Thank you, Dr. Malone," Stacie said.
"You're welcome," Dr. Malone said and walked away.
"I'm so relie-" Stacie started to say but was interrupted by Aubrey's phone ringing.
"It's Chloe," Aubrey said, checking her caller ID before answering. "Hey, Chloe, I was just about to call you."
"You'll never guess where I am?" Chloe said.
"I have no idea," Aubrey said. "I need to tell you something. Are you alone?"
"Um, not really," Chloe said. "I'm in a taxi right now on my way to Beca's."
"You're here?" Aubrey squealed. "Listen, don't go to Beca's. She's not home. That's why I was going to call. She's in the hospital."
"What?!" Chloe yelled, causing the cab driver to swerve slightly. "What hospital? What happened?"
"The L.A. Medical Center," Aubrey said. "I'll fill you in when you get here."
"I'm on my way," Chloe said, ending the call. "Driver, there's been a change of plans. I need to get to the L.A. Medical Center."
"Yes, ma'am," the cab driver said and turned onto a different street.
~~ Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 4 ~~
"Chloe's in L.A. and on her way here," Aubrey told Stacie.
"What is she doing in L.A.?" Stacie asked.
"I don't know," Aubrey said. "She called to tell me she was in a cab on her way to Beca's."
"Excuse me, Miss Conrad," a nurse interrupted. "Dr. Malone asked me to tell you when Miss Mitchell was in her room. She's in room 3027 and you can go see her whenever you're ready."
"Thank you," Stacie said and turned to Aubrey. "Babe, I'm going up to Beca's room. You wait here for Chloe and bring her up, okay?"
"Okay," Aubrey said.
Stacie hurried to Beca's room and walked in.
"Stacie!" Beca called out chuckling. "The nurse told me my sister found me and called for the ambulance. I thought maybe the shock was worse than I was told because I didn't remember having a sister."
"You know the Bellas all think of each other like sisters," Stacie said. "So, the nurse wasn't entirely wrong."
"True," Beca said, smiling. "Thanks for saving me."
"I didn't," Stacie said. "The EMTs did. I just sat there crying and begging you to fight."
~~ Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 4 ~~
"Brey, where is she?" Chloe asked as soon as she saw Aubrey. "How is she?"
"She's going to be fine," Aubrey said. "Stacie's with her right now. Come on, I'll take you to her."
"Thank God!" Chloe whispered.
"I didn't get a chance to ask you what you were doing here," Aubrey said as they entered the elevator.
"I came to talk to Beca face-to-face. To, um, tell her that-," Chloe stammered.
"You finally sacked and decided to tell her that you're in love with her?"
"Um, yeah," Chloe said, staring down at the floor.
"It's about time," Aubrey said as the elevator dinged indicating they had reached the third floor.
Aubrey stepped off the elevator first and Chloe grabbed her arm.
"Brey, wait," Chloe said. "Do you think I should tell her now? I mean, you said her heart stopped. It wouldn't be too much for her, would it? I mean, if I tell her?"
"Listen to me, Chloe Beale," Aubrey said. "The Bellas have waited almost eight years for this, so yes, you should tell her now."
Chloe was slightly taken aback as Aubrey turned and walked away. Chloe pulled her suitcase along and hurried to catch up to Aubrey.
"Hey, Beca," Aubrey called out as she entered Beca's room. "I have a surprise for you."
"A surprise?"
"Yeah."
"What is it?"
"Surprise!" Chloe said, entering the room.
Chloe left her luggage by the door and rushed over to Beca.
"Chloe! What are you doing here?"
Chloe bent down and hugged Beca. She pulled back and sat on the edge of the bed.
"What? Can't a girl visit her two best friends for no reason?"
"I'm so glad you're here," Beca said, reaching to hug Chloe again.
"Me, too," Chloe said. "Although I wasn't expecting to have to come to the hospital to see you."
Aubrey and Stacie stood side-by-side, eagerly watching Beca and Chloe.
"I have something I want to tell you," Beca and Chloe said simultaneously.
"You, go first," they said at the same time.
"No, you go first," they both said and then laughed.
"Chloe, why don't you go first?" Aubrey suggested. "Otherwise we could be here all night while you two go back and forth like this."
Beca looked at Chloe and said, "Go ahead, Chlo."
"Um, okay," Chloe said, tucking some stray hairs behind her ear. "I came here to tell you that I, um, I'm-. Ugh, why is this so hard?"
"Do you want me to go first?" Beca asked, gently taking Chloe's hand.
Chloe nodded and looked at Beca.
"Okay, so, first what they say is true," Beca said. "When you have a near-death experience your life literally does flash before your eyes. Mine did. And, you were a large part of the memories that flashed before me."
Chloe smiled as Beca continued.
"It made me realize that life is short," Beca said. "And we don't know when our time will be up. So, you need to let the people you care about know it. What I'm trying to say is-. Um, I'm in love with you, Chloe. And, honestly, I have been for a while. There, that's what I wanted to tell you."
Tears came to Chloe's eyes as she continued to stare at Beca.
"It's about time," Stacie mumbled.
"Wait," Aubrey whispered. "It's going to get better."
"Way to steal my thunder, Mitchell," Chloe choked out.
"What?"
"I came to L.A. to tell you the same thing," Chloe said, chuckling at the shocked look on Beca's face.
"Seriously?" Beca asked.
"Seriously," Choe said, putting a hand on Beca's cheek. "I love you, Beca."
Beca and Chloe stared into each other's eyes for a moment before leaning in and locking lips.
Suddenly, Beca's heart monitor started beeping loudly; Chloe pulled back from Beca in alarm.
A nurse rushed in. She looked at Beca and then checked the heart monitor.
"Is everything okay?" the nurse asked Beca. "Your monitor shows an increase in your heart rate. Did something happen to cause you to stress?"
Beca blushed and Chloe giggled.
"Just the love of her life telling her she loves her," Stacie said, smiling at the nurse. "And sealing it with a kiss."
"Oh," the nurse said, chuckling. "That would do it. Congratulations to you both."
"Thanks," Chloe said.
The nurse reset the heart monitor and turned to leave. She stopped at the door and looked back at Chloe.
"Let's try not to overstimulate the patient, m'kay?" the nurse said.
Beca blushed more and Chloe giggled again.
"That's easier said than done with these two," Aubrey said.
~~ Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 4 ~~
Two weeks later, Beca and Chloe were cuddling on Beca's sofa. Chloe had her head on Beca's chest with her arms wrapped around Beca's waist; Beca had her arm wrapped around Chloe's shoulders.
Beca leaned down and kissed the back of Chloe's head, causing Chloe's hold on her to tighten. Both sighed in contentment.
"I can't believe how much I love listening to the sound of your heart beating," Chloe whispered.
"I can't believe I'm twenty-six and just now found out I have an irregular heartbeat," Beca said. "I feel extremely lucky that I don't need a pacemaker. Well, not yet anyway."
"And I can't believe you actually asked me to move in with you," Chloe said.
"And I can't believe you agreed so quickly," Beca said chuckling. "I love you, Chloe, and I plan on spending the rest of our lives together, showing you how much."
"Is that a proposal?" Chloe asked, raising her head to look up at Beca. "Because I'd definitely say yes if it is."
"No, not a proposal," Beca said. "Not yet anyway."
"I'll hold you to that," Chloe said, leaning up to kiss Beca. She pulled back with a smile, saying, "God, I love being able to do that."
"Same, babe," Beca said, leaning down to reconnect their lips.

InuKag Week 2021: Day 1
@inukag-week
Day 1: Battle Couple
It was a long and difficult day to say the least. The baby wouldn’t go down for anything, quickly becoming irate and angry at any attempt his parents made to help him settle down. Inuyasha’s shoulders and arms were of no comfort, and he didn’t want to nurse from Kagome. He cried and cried.
Soon his parents cried with him.
Inuyasha held it together for a while, taking the babe from Kagome when she started to choke up at his rejection of her breast. “Here,” his voice was soft, barely audible over the screaming child in Kagome’s arms. “Give him to me. You get some shut eye while we go out for a walk.”
Kagome had shaken her head at first but didn’t stop Inuyasha when he lifted the bundle out of her arms and tucked it into the crook of his neck. “I’m serious,” he told his wife sternly, “get some rest.”
Kagome felt the burn of tears down her face and saw through the waterworks Inuyasha’s shoulders fall slightly. But he turned on his heel and quickly left the hut they occupied, true to his word of taking the baby out for a walk. Kagome dropped her head into her hands, not bothering to even tidy or cover herself up before falling over to cry.
She felt like such a failure, of a mother and wife.
Kagome had gone nearly two days without a few hours rest, and exhaustion quickly crept on her. She was too tired and far too upset herself to remember that Inuyasha needed far less rest than her and could handle a fussy baby for a while. Once she was rested, she would probably blame baby brain for forgetting such a vital part of her husband’s characteristics, but that was for a rested Kagome to worry about.
Sleep came to her quickly, albeit restless sleep. She kept waking and searching for the other occupants of her home, before remembering they were out on a walk. She moved in and out of awareness, not having slept alone in what felt like eons, but realistically was only two years. Her bed felt cold and the room too quiet without her boys in it.
Sunlight finally peaked through the crevices of the walls. Inuyasha had promised her that he would fill in the gaps that the aging wood had created. But that was before the early labor and dramatic entrance of their first-born son just a few short months ago. Kagome half thought to remind him of the task, but then thought she couldn’t risk his attention been separated from her and the baby.
She wasn’t ready to be solely responsible yet.
Sure, reasonably she knew she could do it. It would probably just take him a few hours to gather the straw and mud to bulk up the walls, and with his speed and strength the longest part of it would be waiting for it to dry before adding more. He could help her out during those times, but the thought of even a moment where he wasn’t beside her with his full attention on their baby was too much to imagine.
Kagome started to choke up realizing she had left him to her own worst fear last night – solo parenting.
She rubbed her eyes, and the voice in the back of her head told her “Inuyasha is his father. He is just as capable of taking care of him for a few hours, if not more so.”
She threw that thought to the wind and continued to berate herself for leaving him alone with a very upset and very inconsolable baby for an entire night.
Kagome forced herself to sit up, stiff from having slept in the position she fell over in, rearranging her clothes. She winced at the soreness of her breasts and was sure to loosely cover herself.
“He should be hungry,” she said aloud to no one in particular. ‘Hopefully’ went unspoken.
As she dusted herself off and walked to the bucket of water in the corner to get a drink, Inuyasha’s head ducked in the room, eyes scanning for her.
When he saw her, he gave her a sheepish look. Kagome panicked for a moment – did he leave the baby with Sango and Miroku? What would they think of them as parents if they just dropped the kid off when he got fussy?
Her thoughts were interrupted when he stepped into the room, a whimpering lump on his chest alerting her to the baby’s presence.
Later she would realize her panicked thoughts were more of a manifestation of her own desire to ask her friends for help but wouldn’t out of an irrational fear of judgement. That was another thing she was going to have to work out.
“Sorry to wake you, but he’s suckling on me.”
Kagome blinked, her brain still foggy and slow. Oh. Inuyasha meant the baby was hungry.
She went to grab the baby from her husband, but then thought better of it. Wouldn’t be good to drop the kid in her exhaustion trying to get herself sorted to feed him.
She put down the ladle she was drinking from and sat back down on their futon, crumpled and unmade from the events of the night before. The smell of it made her speak. “We got to air this out today.”
“Once he’s fed, I’ll bring it out.” Inuyasha stepped up into the main room and crouched beside his wife, waiting for her to be ready for the baby – who was still whimpering, but had at least dried himself out of tears.
Kagome adjusted her clothes before holding her arms out for her son – her perfect, fussy, big, loud, demanding son. He quickly latched and took off suckling, eager to fill his stomach and rehydrate after the waterworks of the last few hours.
Kagome felt Inuyasha settled behind her, his arms coming around to hold up their son with her, so her arms didn’t have to hold up the weight. Sighing loudly, she leaned back into him, her head resting against his shoulder and his chin nuzzling into her opposite shoulder. Kagome closed her eyes and started to drift of.
Okay, maybe she did drift off.
Next thing she knew Inuyasha had switched their baby on her breasts and was rubbing his wet nose into her cheek. “Hey,” his voice in her ear was a nice change from the screaming of the night before, “I need you to lay down. I’ve got to burp the brat.”
Kagome nodded, slumping over on his arm, until he removed it and let her flop onto the futon. She could hear the shuffling of his feet walking and bouncing the baby up and down to help him release excess gas. The wet blech told her that more than likely the fire rat robe was going to need to be washed.
Groggily she called out, “He did drink pretty dang fast.”
“Yeah,” came the reply, “let’s just hope he kept enough down to keep him calm for a little bit.”
“Maybe he’ll go into a food coma, and we can rest to.”
Inuyasha snorted. “If there’s a god out there, then let’s pray it happens.”
Kagome knew she should help her husband. He was probably having to juggle a baby while getting out of his clothes and then having to clean both of them up. She knew she should just get up and even if it was to wipe off their son, at least do something. But she couldn’t even manage to open her eyes to watch what she was sure was quite the scene playing out in her house.
She could say she was surprised when she was lifted up and put onto some blankets, but she wouldn’t because she didn’t have it in her to even register what was going on. Managing just a little bit of strength, Kagome saw her son on his back next to her, his chest going up and down and a very light snore coming from his mouth that also caused his ears to twitch in rhythm. He was naked which Kagome knew was probably a bad idea but couldn’t even find it in her to care.
If he soiled the blankets, he soiled the blankets. They washed.
Besides, it wasn’t like she was exactly clean herself.
Rolling to her side, she gently tucked an arm under her head and the other coming down softly to rest on his chest. The movement of his breath quickly lulled his mother into a far more peaceful rest than before.
The sun had well slid its way across the sky by the time Kagome woke up. Inuyasha was sitting in the genkan, a shallow dish of water before him and the boy in his lap. The baby seemed very fascinated by the light dancing across the surface and was enchanted by the experience.
Kagome could tell that her husband was just as enchanted by watching their son experience the world for the first time.
“Some partner I am.” Her voice was rough and gravely from dehydration. Inuyasha’s ears moved before his head. He looked over his shoulder at her, bemusement in his eyes.
“Didn’t know I married a bear demon.”
Kagome rolled her eyes at his quip. Gods help her if her son developed his father’s sense of humor. “I’m sorry for leaving you to all the work. I’m not a very good wife, am I?”
Inuyasha’s eyes narrowed, whether in confusion or annoyance, she couldn’t tell. She was too far gone in her emotions to care. “What kind of mother am I, even? I just leave my boy alone and don’t comfort him?”
Inuyasha cut her off before she could continue down her path of self-deprecation. “No one could comfort him last night. Miroku told me that babies get that way sometimes, so we’ve just got to stick together and make sure he knows we’ll be there for him.”
Ah. He had gone to see Miroku and Sango last night. Kagome felt a sting of bitterness in her chest, worrying about judgement for no reason.
“But,” Inuyasha looked back at his son, stroking the top of his head and lifting his fine sliver baby hair, “we aren’t going to win the battle unless we rely on each other and have each other’s backs.”
Kagome nearly stopped him, wanting to know what battle before she realized Miroku had probably use an analogy to get through to his half-demon friend.
Inuyasha continued. “You had my back with Naraku, and when I got injured. I had your back when you had to fight off Hobo and the entrance examples. It’s no different now.”
Kagome opened her mouth to correct him like she had thousands of times before about Hojo’s name, but her heart had other plans. “You’re right,” she spoke softly, her eyes beginning to close again now that she was comforted. “We’ve got each other’s backs. Thanks for having mine last night.”
If she had kept her eyes open for a few more moments she would have seen the color light up across her husband’s face before he turned to look back down at their boy, who was now touching the water to refract light differently, although he didn’t understand the science of his actions.
If she had stayed awake for a second longer, she would have heard her husband say, “I’ll always have your back.”

Smothered Flames & Shadows (Part 1)
Hi guys! So this is my first fanfiction ever, and I’m honestly not sure if it’s even good but I thought I wanted to share some Gwynriel with you all :) I have a sort of story planned out and this will likely have more parts. I’m pretty sure I will continue this story since I have more stuff planned out (hence the part 1) but right now it’s just some Gwynriel crumbs. Hope you guys will enjoy it and stay safe wherever you are.
(How are we gonna wait like ten years for the Gwynriel book because I believe in you SJM you MUST MUST give us Gwynriel ??!)
Ps. This is the updated version, I added a new chunk for Azriel’s reaction. (Updated on 26 April 2021)
Azriel's wings flapped as he patrolled the skies. The dense cloud cover as well as the fading sunlight disguised his presence and he needed minimal effort to remain hidden. His shadows could taste the looming chaos and flitted around him warningly.
Be careful, be careful.
He could hear through their thoughts and saw through their lingering words. All was quiet here, it seemed. He would much rather preferred to be stationed at the ethereally beautiful Dawn Court, their High Lord serene but with an inner strength that was unflappable, instead of... here.
The Autumn Court held no such delights. Yes, the scenery was more than picturesque -- its flora suspended in eternal autumn, the golden-brown leaves swirling leisurely through the air, their russet color so much like a certain male that was mated to a certain girl he could never have.
Allow me to make one thing very clear. You are to stay away from her.
Unbidden, his brother's fury-driven words cut into his muddled thoughts. Azriel knew that he was old and cranky and Rhys didn't deserve his anger and resentment after what he went through for all of them, but he was... gods, he was so damn tired.
The first female outside of Mor who had caught his eyes -- of course she had to be denied from him. Cauldron knew that the Mother had never shone its light on him, not that he even deserved to be embraced by Her warmth.
His mind finally allowed him to remember the beautiful brunette always on the back of his mind. Her doe-like eyes, sweet smile and that alluring scent, so pure and innocent and arousing and --
Fuck.
Azriel adjusted himself, his pants stifling and uncomfortable. Shit. He was in deep shit. But he couldn't stop himself from fantasizing about how she would taste, how she would look when he made her come.
Rhys's words from the other day, during solstice so many months ago, hadn't helped. Azriel's desperate lust had only grown even more to the point that he was actively avoiding the second Archeron sister so she wouldn't scent his arousal.
For that matter, so his two brothers wouldn't catch him lusting after her especially after the warning he was given.
And she seemed to be avoiding him too.
Azriel made one more round in the skies, the night as chilly and familiar as his own shadows that seemed strangely subdued now. His thoughts continued to stray towards...
Elain.
Beautiful, clean, pure, worthy Elain. He was none of those things, he knew that. Had resigned himself to it after five centuries of futile pining for a female that never returned his desires. He did not blame Mor. Could not blame Mor. He was tainted and she deserved someone better than him.
But when he saw Elain... Their unlikely friendship had gradually turned into something more. It had only continued to develop after Elain was Made High Fae and he became even more attuned to her, constantly sharing the same space. And for the first time since Mor, he wanted. He wanted to have what his two brothers had. It was wrong and it was selfish, but he saw Rhys and Cassian and he wondered --
Maybe the Cauldron had made a mistake. Three sisters of blood and three brothers of choice. Two thirds fulfilled, and somewhere deep down inside, he had been uselessly, worthlessly holding onto hope.
He had not dared to whisper it out loud until Rhys caught him just before their kiss. And Rhys reaction had only served to remind him why he was wrong for her. Why Elain deserved someone else.
But for the first time in his life, he wanted to throw caution to the wind.
Deciding that all was well and not wanting to remain a second longer, Azriel gathered his shadows and prepared to winnow back to home. He frowned when his shadows flittered over him... disapprovingly?
Yes, that was disapproval. His lips tightened as they swirled around him angrily.
What the hell was wrong with them tonight?
Azriel yanked on his petulant shadows. They continued to ignore him, some even going as far as to ignore him.
He scowled. His shadows were stepping out of line more and more frequently as thought something was bothering him.
Or someone.
He shoved aside the image of tendrils dancing and singing around a certain redhead, her bright teal eyes laughing and --
Azriel forcibly winnowed and dragged his disobeying shadows after him, leaping across the miles between the Autumn Court and home within a single step, resigning himself to a lonely night -- as always.
~~~
The night was alive.
It was a comforting blanket draped over her, Gwyn mused silently.
But she felt dead.
It was going to be one of those nights, then. Those nights when she woke up screaming, drenched in sweat only to realize it was just another nightmare. That reality was like a noose tied around her neck, dragging her further down into the pits of Hell where she belonged.
She would never meet Catrin even in death. Because her lovely, beautiful sister who had shone like the brightest star was amongst the stars in the heavens. That single thought was the only thing pushing her forward on the worst of nights.
On nights where flinging herself out of a high balcony on the impossible chance that she would see Catrin again seemed possible. Gwyn had thought that that was before.
Before Nesta, before Emerie, before meeting her Valkyrie sisters whom she knew would and had walked with her through pain and darkness and led her back.
But even after so much training, nothing had changed. She was still the cowardly, timid, broken doll she thought she had left behind.
Gwyn sighed even as sadness and pain, always so much pain, swelled inside her. Logically she knew she wasn't thinking straight. If Nesta or Emerie were here, they would be chiding her for her thoughts, the former sharp but mindful, and the latter firm but gentle. A small smile came onto her faces at all the memories they shared.
The cutting of the ribbon. Winning the obstacle course that served as the Blood Rite Qualifier. And then winning the actual Blood Rite itself while Nesta -- unyielding, unflinching -- held the lines for Gwyn and Emerie to be crowned as Carynthians.
And now, Nesta and Cassian's mating ceremony. Despite everything she was feeling, Gwyn was happy for her friend.
Her sister by choice.
She knew Nesta deserved Cassian as he did her, and she felt genuine happiness for the pair. It was obvious during the long months of initial, grueling training that there was a spark between the two. An attraction that could not be denied.
She longed to find that love though in truth Gwyn knew she might never be ready for it.
Her point was further proven yesterday when Nesta had invited them during a break in training to her mating ceremony, held in a week's time. Gwyn knew that preparations were already underway and she was as honored and grateful as Emerie to be invited, but still she had hesitated, especially at the list of invited and accepted guests.
It wasn't mortifyingly long since Nesta only wanted close friends and family and Cassian only wanted the High Lord, Rhysand and Azriel, but the guest was filled with important names that made Gwyn nervous just to hear them.
The High Lord and High Lady were enough to make her dizzy. And then there was the High Lord's Second and Third, both formidable females in their own right. Gwyn thought wryly though that Emerie had seemed flustered and even blushed a little when her ears caught on a certain someone's name in the list Nesta had shared.
She was happy for her friend too. Emerie deserved friendship -- and love, if that relationship could blossom. But she knew better than interfere when her own relationships were so precarious.
The Prince of Adriata was coming, along with Mother above, the High Lord of the Day Court, Helion. Nesta's younger sister Elain was on the list as well though Nesta's face had clouded a bit when she read her name out loud. And then there was her mate -- Lucien Vanserra.
The supposedly exiled son of the High Lord of Autumn, who had ties to numerous Courts and was a valuable ally.
It was silly and stupid but amidst this sea of important names, Gwyn had wondered on more than one occasion what she could even do there. She had immediately scolded herself mentally, that she would be attending the ceremony for Nesta and even Cassian, who had become a bit of an older brother figure to her, and she would have Emerie with her.
She knew Emerie would fight anyone who dared to even look at her the wrong way.
But the larger part of Gwyn was scared. So many people would be attending, especially the males. It wasn't as if Helion or Lucien would randomly pounce on her, and that her fear was irrational, but she couldn't stop thinking about them. Couldn't stop thinking about that day where so many males surrounded her, where that hateful Hybern commander had ordered her held down, had pummeled into her as silent tears fell down her face, had laughed in her face and --
Gwyn counted the stars in the sky in time to her quickened breathing. Deep breaths, she told herself. When she couldn't sleep on nights like these she would train until nearly the breaking of dawn. She should get up from her position on the ground.
Probably.
But lying on the cold floor of the training area atop the House of Wind was a refreshing change. After having been coped up in the library for two years, she had finally decided to join Nesta in her morning training sessions with Cassian.
It was quite possibly the best decision she had ever made.
But still... But still, the doubt lingered. It festered. It thrived on her pain and self-hatred, quietly growing on nights like these.
It thrived at the fact that Emerie had accepted the invitation immediately, but Gwyn, worthless, selfish Gwyn had not. Was she so pathetic that she couldn't even congratulate her friend on her special day?
She should really get up. Perhaps train a bit more, instead of lying here wallowing in her dark thoughts.
Then a tiny tendril of shadow-kissed power gently prodded her arm. She startled, turning around and half-getting up.
She already knew who would be standing before her with his usual contemplative silence.
Azriel.
He was before her and she froze for one second. A twinge of fear crept in at his closeness, at the nearness of another male, so suddenly and unpredicted --
Azriel took a step back, saying softly, "I'm sorry if I surprised you."
Gwyn blinked. The shadowsinger was nothing but the epitome of manners and he had likely scented her fear.
"It's fine." And that was true. Her fear had instantly washed away as abruptly as it had arrived upon realizing who was here.
Azriel would never hurt her, Gwyn was sure of that.
She cleared her throat, trying to get rid of the awkward silence that had descended.
"Are you here for something?" She winced slightly at her choice of words. This was his home. She had no right to even utter such a question when she was the outsider.
Before Azriel could reply, another shadow darted out and wrapped itself around her arm before rushing back to its master. Gwyn felt the corners of her lips twitched up as the shadowsinger blinked once, twice in... shock.
"Did you forget your favorite dagger again?" She teased and was rewarded with a faint blush on his cheeks. His lovely and if she dared say, adorable shadows had given her the courage she needed.
To her surprise, he played along. "Have you seen an eighteen-inch dagger anywhere?"
Gwyn burst out laughing at the ridiculous statement.
"May I remind you that it's a dagger you have misplaced -- not a sword?"
"Forgive me if my memory fails sometimes." Was she seeing things or was there a twinkle in his eyes?
"Well, you do seem to forget things rather easily." Oh, she was certain! Amusement ran deep inside his hazel eyes and Gwyn felt breathless for a second, mesmerized by the beautiful male.
Staring into his eyes... She smiled at him, a genuine crinkling of her eyes. He had lifted her mood within seconds of his arrival.
Azriel seemed to freeze for a second, his usual stillness somehow magnifying. Intensifying. His shadows writhed around and she had the odd feeling that he was struggling to control them.
She blinked, and the moment passed.
"Were you training?" Azriel motioned towards her sweaty body. She nodded mutely, still caught up in what had occurred. Was it just her imagination? Looking at the stoic Illyrian standing before her, Gwyn decided she was just too tired, and her mind was playing tricks on her.
"...My help?"
Gwyn snapped out of her thoughts, head jerking up. "What?"
Azriel cocked an eyebrow at her obvious inattentiveness and she felt herself blushing. She chided herself mentally.
"Do you require my help?" He repeated the question, that faint amusement still dancing in his eyes.
"Wait. Are you asking to train me?" Another eyebrow raise.
"Were you expecting me to teach you the benefits of lying on the cold floor in the middle of the night?" He replied dryly.
Gwyn scowled and immediately stood up.
"Uh-huh. I was expecting you to fling your arms about and start serenading me."
"Is that a demand?" Azriel chuckled quietly. Gwyn thought that might be the most heavenly sound she had ever heard.
"Is that a challenge?" Gwyn shot back, not missing a beat.
The corners of his lips twitched up. Gwyn wanted to wipe that smirk off his face, her competitive streak setting in. She was also excited for this match because truth be told, she had been training everyday in anticipation of wiping the floor with the shadowsinger. It was her secret fantasy.
Not that it would happen anytime still but... Still.
"You can help me with my training. But on one condition."
Azriel contemplated her more seriously before he nodded his head.
"We fight now. Hand-to-hand."
~~~
The night was alive.
And Gwyneth Berdara was the full moon that accompanied it, shining brightly even amidst the darkness. She was so lovely, yet he sensed something pure and burning thriving inside her. His shadows yearned to flit around her, touch her, dance and sing for her. He had to keep them on a tight leash, and they were unhappy.
Little tendrils of darkness swirled around him petulantly. They wanted to go to Gwyn. Would have gone to her without his intervention. One stray thread snuck out and nearly coiled around Gwyn's wrist before he snatched it back in time. He could have sworn his own shadows growled at him. But he had bigger things to focus on.
Like the fact that Gwyn had just challenged Azriel to a duel.
Once again, his shadows had failed to mention that she was here. There was no quick escape that didn't end in awkwardness so he had stayed -- and so far he was... contented. Being around her seemed to have that effect on himself.
She was humming to herself as she stretched, preparing her body before their fight. His shadows buzzed around excitedly, seeming to forget about their earlier disagreement. He supposed there was no question who they were rooting for.
"Ready?" He asked Gwyn. She nodded, then held up a hand.
"Wait." She retied her ponytail, not letting even a single strand of her coppery chestnut obstructing her vision. He admired her competitiveness, her courage and strength in always fighting for the best.
Meeting her by chance here again reminded him of solstice, and his mind wandered to Elain before he slammed down his thoughts.
Focus. He had watched and trained Gwyn enough to know that she was a threat: an emerging dark horse that proved unpredictable and cunning. He also knew she had silently studied his fighting style enough to know more than just a few of his preferred tricks.
They circled each other, neither one of them making the first move.
He had drilled into her what signs to look out for, what feints and what blockings would be an unexpected yet effective counterattack that he was more than a little wary.
Still, he decided to make the first move, which was so out of his usual style that he hoped she would be unprepared. He had the feeling that she already knew he was going to attack first though as she sidestepped him and threw a punch.
Like he was expecting. He grabbed it and pulled her towards him to jilt her balance, but she was already expecting that and swept out her leg, forcing him to move unless he wanted to end up on the ground. The next move he had perfected to mastery.
He pretended to feint left when he was actually aiming for the left. A cheap shot, but he had also taught her that no real fights were clean and honest. She twisted her body but they both knew she wouldn't dodged in time.
At the last moment, his shadows decided to move and --
Capture his fucking hand. They wrapped themselves around him and his eyes widened as he was stopped mid-throw by his own shadows. The scenario would have been laughable if he wasn't in so much disbelief. They had never outright hindered him in any battles before.
He cursed, barely dodging the next kick Gwyn sent his way. They broke apart again and Gwyn asked, "Something wrong?" She glanced towards his wayward shadows and he had a strong feeling she knew.
He shook his head, glaring at his swirling shadows. They just blinked up at him innocently.
Don't hurt her. Don't hurt her. Lovely mistress lovely mistress lovely mistress.
He gritted his teeth. Their fancy for Gwyn had reached the point of obsession but she didn't seem to mind. In fact, she squinted and then broke into a grin.
"Aha. I thought I saw your little friends earlier." At her words, his shadows flew towards her joyfully, happy to be recognized. Azriel rubbed his neck as his shadows neared Gwyn, knowing that she had to secretly hate them for being so ugly and tainted and unworthy --
Gwyn bent down. What she did next would stay in his memories forever. Holding out an arm, she let his shadows coiled around the entire length, wisps of midnight trailing her as she walked towards Azriel.
His shadows were happier than he had ever known them to be. He could feel their joy with every step she took, sense the way they were telling him to look look look look.
Then Gwyn smiled at him, her teal eyes so clear and large.
"Your shadows are beautiful."
~~~
"Your shadows are beautiful."
Azriel stood still. His entire body was frozen, and even his heart seemed to cease its beating.
Gwyn took a step back at whatever expression was on his face. What she said... Did she understand that what she said -- no one had ever deigned to voice before?
Did she look at his hideous soul and scarred hands?
Did she see how truly stained he was?
He wanted to believe she did. He had never wanted something more than Gwyn seeing him, truly seeing him be true. But if it were true...
How could his shadows be beautiful?
"I'm -- I'm sorry for stepping out of line." She stuttered out, her eyes wide.
Azriel glanced up sharply, snapped out of his trance. She looked horrified and was stammering out another apology, her pitch high and wobbly.
Shit.
Before he could process what he was saying, words tumbled out of his mouth, aided by the push of an impatient shadow desperate to right all things wrong.
"It is I who should be apologizing." His voice was a soft whisper in the night breeze. Gwyn paused halfway through her long speech and she stood there gaping at him.
"I am sorry, Gwyn." Azriel truly was. He could feel the shame gnawing at him. Yet another mistake. Yet another disappointment. He was a lowly half-breed bastard. His "little friends" curled around his tightening fists anxiously. He could not quite meet her eyes as chagrin dragged him down and whispered,"I should not have reacted the way I did."
He did not know what to expect. The infamous spymaster that was Azriel could never anticipate any of Gwyn's actions. She was an enigma, a mystery that constantly evaded him, the light at the end of the tunnel that shied away from him at every twist and turn.
He saw Gwyn take a deep breath from his peripheral vision and steeled himself. He gathered the remnants of his scattered mask, ready to return to just the High Lord's spymaster.
And then Gwyn spoke.
"I... I do not know your story. I do not know the dark tales that define your past. But I know you. And I know that whatever it is... It does not define you. It does not define the male I see standing before me. It cannot define the male who saved my very life, who --" Here her voice caught and she had to stop for a moment.
Azriel's heart clenched painfully. He did not know why but... He wanted to hug her and show her that her past had never defined her. Not for him, not for Nesta or Emerie and he wanted her to know that it shouldn't for herself.
"Who placed that cloak upon me with such gentle hands." She continued softly, gazing down at his scarred palms. And for the first time in a sea of forever, Azriel did not feel the urge to hide his shadow-kissed hands. Those same shadows began to swirl towards Gwyn and she did not flinch.
She only continued staring at him with those eyes that could see through everything. Did he want them to see through him? Yes.
She sees. And she is not afraid. Azriel's shadows basked them in a cocoon of living darkness.
"I refuse to let your past define you. I do not accept that. So fight. Your story... even if it never comes to me, there is nothing it can tell me that I don't already know. You are brave, thoughtful and so, so kind. You and Cassian trusted me to survive and conquer the Rite as you two had trusted Nesta and Emerie. If not then both of you would have stormed in immediately, and no law could have overruled you. So please... Please believe in me like you did. Just this once, if nothing else." Gwyn finished a little breathlessly and he knew she had rushed through the last part because she was nervous.
But somehow the bit that stuck out to him was her thinking he used to believe in her. He did, but used to? He still did. And he wanted her to know that, more than anything. He wanted Gwyn to know that he had never stop believing in her.
And seeing Gwyn's crestfallen face as each second passed and he still remained silently, he knew she was thinking the worst.
He wanted her smile back. His shadows wanted that too.
But more than anything, they both wanted her to sing again. And looking at her dispirited expression, at that moment even his shadows were unsure whether she would find her voice again.
She had spilled her thoughts to him, and he was standing there like an idiot.
Your words, Azriel. Use your words.
His shadows were begging him to say something. Anything, please please please.
As she turned to leave, he finally found his voice. The voice she unknowingly helped him find.
"Gwyn, I'm sorry -- please wait." She paused, hesitating as her eyes met his. Azriel did not know what to say. He was incapable of saying anything but "sorry", that word so pathetic and useless. Sorry was not enough when Rhys was captured by Amarantha. Sorry was not enough when Feyre was forced to sacrifice herself for their -- for his sake. Sorry was not enough when Elain was taken away by the Cauldron in the middle of the night.
Sorry had never been enough and never would be. Azriel was a stupid, foolish idiot.
"Azriel." Gwyn spoke his name softly. He tore himself away from his useless thoughts and looked at her.
She... did not look upset. She did not look angry, nor sad, nor frustrated. Instead, understanding lay in those warm teal eyes.
"I'm not pushing you to share about yourself. You are not obliged to just because I rambled on about my thoughts." Gwyn's eyes were indeed filled with apology and remorse though she had a small smile.
"You will always be my friend. And I will wait for you, even if the day you want to share about yourself never comes. Because I know you will do the same for me."
Somehow, in that moment when even time seemed to have held its breath, when even the Mother seemed to be watching, Azriel felt something in him shifted. In the distant, he could have sworn a phoenix's song filled his veins, a song of smothered flames and shadows.
"Besides, I think the silent, brooding type fits you better than Cassian's I-wrecked-one-tiny-unimportant-useless-building hotheadedness." Gwyn teased.
The distant calling seemed to grow louder, and Azriel could have sworn --
He could have sworn that a faraway glow beckoned him. And his shadows were more restless than ever, nearly tearing away from their master in their excitement.
So when Gwyn grinned at him, he smiled back.
The stars twinkling overhead seemed to beam back too. For the first time in a long while, Azriel felt contented. It was a feeling he had not experienced since... Since solstice. And back then he was with Gwyn, too, he realized abruptly. It was this female before him who had brought him not once, but twice such longed-for peace and quiet.
Gwyn was wrong. It was not his shadows who were beautiful.
It was her.
It was the Valkyrie who had walked beside Death -- and never cowered.
Never feared, never faltered.
Gwyneth Berdara was a secret, lovely beauty.
Sorry for any grammatical errors (or just errors in general) since I’m writing on my own right now. Thanks for reading and stay tune for part 2 <3
Updated comment: Hi guys, so I added a new bit about Azriel’s reaction. I was planning out the whole story so it’s taking a while and I’m sorry about the wait. I’m nearly done with planning things out chapter-by-chapter so part 2 is on its way. Thank you for staying with me
