Ch208, Spoilers part 2

One day, some visitors come, and they look like they are from a circus. I don't know the circumstances in which they get to take him away. Do they break him out? Does his "owner" sell him off? Does something happen to the owner of the freak show?

Whatever the case, Joker asks him what's his name, and apparently Snake didn't really have one (that he could recall?), so Joker simply names him "Snake". Meanwhile, I see someone (Dagger, I think) bringing children into the back of a wagon; are they being collected for Kelvin?!?

Doll puts out a hand and offers for Snake to leave with them. He accepts the offer and goes with them to Noah's Ark Circus.

There, Doll seems to ask "チキンと汁一クどつち食う？", which google translates as "Would you rather eat chicken or a cup of soup?" Snake doesn't give an answer, so Doll says "黙ってちやわかんねーだろ?", like "You can't just keep quiet, right?" Then Jumbo walks over. I haven't had time yet to translate what he says, but Snake still isn't talking.

Emily tells Snake "...チキン" (chicken), and finally Snake says "あとメスりて言ってる" (I'm saying it's a female) or "あとメス りて言ってる" (Also, it says female). I'm not sure if Jumbo and Doll are excited about that snake being a girl, Snake speaking with snakes, or simply the fact that Snake has finally said something.

Then Jumbo says something like "これはしデイに失礼をお名前を伺っても?" (Please excuse me if I ask your name?). Either that or more like "My apologies to this day. May I ask your name?"

The bubble with "そうですね... エミリー なんてどうでしよう" means something like "I agree... Emily, what should I do?" Followed by "嵐が丘 の考者　エリス・ベルの本名です" (This is the real name of Ellis Bell, the thinker [author] of Wuthering Heights).

Snake considers the name "Emily" for this snake, and then another snake gets in the way and Snake says "俺にも名前を付けてくれ つて言つてる" (Give me a name, too, it's saying).

Looks like the other snakes all want Jumbo to name them.

Then Dagger and Doll work on an outfit for him, and they are later shown enjoying meals together.

But time passes, and then one day our earl and Sebastian show up....

I'll try to get more translations done soon.

Ch 205: That Butler, Panic

The chapter is short (only 13 pages plus the cover, with a two page spread toward the end), but full of drama. The shit finally hits the fan and Snake learns what really happened to the circus troupe and what Doll really is.

My summary translation follows. Please be respectful of the work and money I put into these by not reposting without credit.

The chapter begins where the last left off, with the orphans, Finny, and Snake finding Doll being given a transfusion of Canopus blood by two of the human workers.

Snake asks why Doll looks in this condition, and the workers try to explain it away by saying Doll is getting a medical procedure for an illness.

But Theo calls them on their bullshit, saying they’re lying, recognizing the label that says Canopus on the blood Doll was getting.

He accuses Doll of being a star lord.

One of the workers basically challenges Theo back, asking what their intentions are and that they’d better think carefully before responding, while pulling a gun on them.

She fires, and Finny springs into action, protecting the orphan clones and getting hit in the shoulder in the process.

He yells at them to run, and they do, but Doll picks up a shard of glass and does a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon leap and springs over them, cutting off their escape.

Doll says now that they know everything, they won’t let them pass.

Snake is so shocked he speaks as himself, asking, begging for Doll to tell him that it isn’t true, that they aren’t a star lord.

Doll apologizes to him for lying, and says of all people, they didn’t want Snake to know the truth about them.

“I’m a monster,” Doll explains. “That night at father’s, I died. No… I was murdered. By Ciel Phantomhive.”

Doll explains how father (Baron Kelvin), Joker, and their entire family were killed like insects, and then recounts in graphic, sardonic detail how everyone died:

Wendy and Peter were hunted down and shot like prey by the maid;

Beast (and Dagger) were dredged in flour and deep fried alive;

And Jumbo was even worse— his guts and head were pulverized by the gardener.

On the final page, Doll tells Snake he’s been tricked into working for their enemy, and urges him, as family, to join them in getting revenge against the Phantomhives.

The chapter ends there, so we’ll need to wait for next month to see how Snake responds…! This also means that Undertaker must have seen what happened that night, and either told Doll or inserted it into their records….

Ch208 (p5), Jumbo's approach

Doll comes over to offer Snake food, but he still isn't ready to talk. Jumbo gets the idea to ask what the snakes are saying, though idk how any of them would know (yet) that Snake and his snakes communicate. That gets Snake's attention, though. He definitely must be hungry, but he would want to make sure the snakes are also well fed.

The snake by his side here is the one we call Emily, but more about that in a moment. Snake finally talks, and he introduces this female snake.

Jumbo and Doll probably feel a sense of accomplishment, finally getting Snake to talk. But they are also pleased to learn something about his snakes.

So, Jumbo apologizes to the "lady" and asks for her name... which she doesn't have. Jumbo offers to help him name the snakes, so people will know what to call each one.

Interesting that one of Jumbo's favorite novels is about something so dreary as a cruel man haunted by the ghost of his lost love. But to each their own. 😆 (I do believe Baron Heathfield is vaguely named/modeled after Heath from that book, btw.)

In the end, it seems that Jumbo did not run out of names. Though he does use a first name for some and a last name for others.

Life might not be easy for the circus troupe, but they get along well and make do with what they have. Snake still thinks of himself as "us" -- himself and the snakes -- as if they all all one person.

He's got a family now... but not for very long. Idk how much time passes between him joining the circus and our earl and Sebastian coming along, but I don't think it's very long. This might help explain why Snake doesn't speak up about his snakes being tied in knots or about the troupe tents being searched. Because you know his snakes must have told him all about that.

The rest (minus whatever Snake has kept quiet about) we already know.

Perhaps next chapter will give us more insight into what Snake and his snakes have learned in the company of our earl and Sebastian?
