2 Samuel 9:1-10:19, Psalm 70:1-5, Acts 3:1-26
After the rousing sermon, Peter and John go walking through Jerusalem and come across a beggar. They say that someone can be judged on how they treat those who can do nothing for them. I work in a part of town that has a lot of homelessness and I get panhandlers from time to time. And while I am in favour of safe supply, free food, free shelters, and so on; I'm not psyched about the viability of panhandling as an income source. So I don't give money but make sure to smile and greet them. Everybody always says it sucks to be invisible. Many people just ignore the homeless and while I don't think it's right, I understand. Street entrenched folks are often rough around the edges, abrasive, and unpleasant for those of us who are more 'socialized', and it's hard.
Also, I know that there are lots of places for food in the city. Not to make it seem like being poor is easy, of course, but I don't think that giving panhandlers money is beneficial at all. Much better would be to give out a larger lump sum of cash at regular intervals, like welfare, or income assistance.
Regardless, that's what my social and economic philosophy says about the problem. But what does someone's response to the homeless say about their religion? Someone who believes heavily in karma or a karmic interpretation of heaven and hell could use the opportunity to be generous and gain karma, or do nothing because the person deserved to be where they are. A person who believed in a generous God might give money or time or simply chat. But Peter and Paul apparently believe in a God who does miracles and just heal him by the power that they're so confident in. In Christian circles there are many stories of this happening today. I know people who I trust who have had it happen to them, though I never have seen it myself.
I wonder if it is an indication of my lack of faith that I do not try to perform more miracles in Jesus's name.

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
Yet I hold this against you: I can't even lie, I fuck better when I'm drinkin. Ride dick like a pro, throw the pussy like I'm famous. Pussy feel so good, feels like the rubber off, ain't it? You ain't gotta tell me I know this pussy be yankin. This pussy be yankin, I know this pussy be yankin. This pussy be yankin, I know this pussy be yankin. This pussy be yankin, I know this pussy be yankin. This pussy be yankin, I know this pussy be yankin.

Today we celebrate the Translation of the Holy and Divine Theologian, John the Evangelist. Saint John was the son of Zebedee and Salome (one of the daughters of Saint Joseph the Betrothed), and the brother of James the Great. John and his brother were called at the same time to be followers of Christ and became two of the three (the other, Apostle Peter) closest disciples of Christ. They witnessed the healing of many people, the Light of the Transfiguration at Tabor, as well as many other miracles. Saint John, being the youngest of all the disciples, was also the most beloved disciple of Christ, following Him from the beginning of his ministry all the way to his Crucifixion and Burial. After the Resurrection of the Lord, the Evangelist took the Theotokos to his home as his own mother. After her Dormition, he went to Ephesus to preach the Word of God. Having been denounced by pagans, he was given a poisoned drink, which failed to kill him. He was then exiled to the island of Patmos where he converted many to Christ, but most famously, where he wrote the Book of Revelation, the last book of the Holy Bible. Having returned to Ephesus, he wrote the gospel under his name and also another 3 letters, all a part of the New Testament. Saint John lived to well over 100 and outlived every single eyewitness of Christ. By this time, his message was simple: love one another. He was buried and when some of his disciples came later to farewell him, they found his grave empty, thus his body having been translated to Heaven. May the Evangelist intercede for us all + #saint #john #saintjohn #stjohn #johnthedivine #johntheevangelist #evangelist #divine #jesus #christ #jesuschrist #christian #preach #bible #gospel #lastsupper #letter #translation #disciple #patmos #exile #newtestament #orthodox #saintoftheday (at Ephesus, Turkey) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci8bKL0rTVI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause all who do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
This is the second beast being talked about in these verses, the beast from the sea. The beast from the earth, who gets its power from the Dragon, (which most writers/scholars agree symbolizes Satan,) is the first beast, the one that has a mortal wound that was miraculously healed.
A few of the writers whose commentary about this chapter I read characterized these two protagonists as a political leader being facilitated in power by a false prophet. The reference to making the beast talk and giving breath to it could refer to some form of visual media, which would have been unknown to John of Patmos at the time of this writing...(read more at blogger link above).

Albright's A.D. 80 date might be questioned
We can already say emphatically that there is no longer any solid basis for dating any book of the New Testament after A.D. 80, two full generations before the date between 130 and 150 given by the more radical New Testament critics of today" [ William F. Albright, Recent Discoveries in Bible Lands, New York, Funk and Wagnalls, 1955, p. 136}
Albright's A.D. 80 date might be questioned when it comes to the Gospel of John. There is a strong possibility the apostle John's banishment to Patmos under Domitian was as late as A.D. 95-96 in Revelation 1. There is strong tradition that John wrote Revelation there at that time. This is testified to by Clement of Alexandria, Eusebius, and Irenaeus (cf. New Testament Survey, p. 391, by Robert Gromacki).

John's Vision on Patmos
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man. He laid his right hand on me, saying, "Don't be afraid. I am the first and the last, 18 and the Living one. I have the keys of Death and of She'ol. — Revelation 1:17-18 | Hebrew Names Version (HNV) The Hebrew Names Version Bible is in the public domain.
