*SPOILERS*
Oh my freaking god, is Casey Frank Morris?! 😨
Okay, I had to look this up to be actually sure and yeah, I think this is the Alcatraz escape attempt in June 1962. Casey's a prisoner in Alcatraz called Frank. One of the other guys is called John according to the subtitles. So, that has to mean that Casey is Frank Morris before the TVA, and the other two guys are Clarence and John Anglin. It's the June 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt.
Honestly, I was NOT expecting that to be Casey's past life at all! Wonder what happened to make him be taken away to work at the TVA.

Escape from Alcatraz (1979)
Tumblr media
From The Shawshank Redemption to The Great Escape, stories of innocent or righteous people scratching together the means to regain their freedom is both captivating and emotional. Unlike most films, Escape from Alcatraz doesn’t “cheat” by giving us a softie of a protagonist. Without a doubt, the people in this film deserve to be jailed. Ultimately, you don't care because of the ingenuity in their plan and the fact that it’s based on a real-life story. Tense all the way through and with a terrific ending, it’s one of the best prison escape films.
In early 1960, Frank Morris (Clint Eastwood) is sentenced to the maximum security prison on Alcatraz Island. Having escaped capture many times, Frank is undeterred by the exceedingly high security measures and strict warden (Patrick McGoohan) who assures him no one’s ever made it out.
Alcatraz isn’t merely a prison; it’s a hell hole. While there are some who certainly deserve everything the guards and warden throw at the inmates, such as a rapist called Wolf (Bruce M. Fischer), many of the prisoners are sympathetic; victims of an unfair system (Paul Benjamin is serving dual life sentences for killing two white men in self-defence) or clearly reformed by the time we meet them. Alcatraz doesn’t see it that way. The objective is not to rehabilitate. It’s to make lives miserable. In fact, the warden makes a point to punish those he oversees based on how he feels about them rather than the way the justice system sees them. He’s not a cartoon but his smugness means he deserves to be knocked down a peg. That’s where Morris comes in. The odds are stacked against our protagonist. It’ll take inhuman levels of ingenuity to escape from the prison. Some of his tactics are so wild, it’ll make you feel like a moron. You think the operation will be as simple as Morris, his accomplices John and Clarence Anglin (Fred Ward and Jack Thibeau) and the fourth conspirator, Charley Butts (Larry Hankin) stealing a power tool to break through the bars at night but no. They’re going to have to MAKE the tools they need - out of nothing.
The space the escapees have to maneuver in is so tight, you’re constantly wondering what will go wrong. Clever as it might be, their plan is literally put together with bits of loose paper, paint, and mud. It just barely crosses the line into doable and the tiniest detail out of place will make the whole thing fall apart. While there might not be anything that prevents them from trying again should they fail, so much effort is being put into this attempt you can’t bear the idea of it failing. You want to see the phases work just so you can see what to see what comes next.
It’s probably better that you don’t know beforehand what actually happened on the night of June 11, 1962. The FBI’s position on the events are clear and unfortunately, they don’t make for a cinematic ending. This is where the film proves to be as ingenious as its protagonist. It’s a terrific final note.
Escape from Alcatraz deftly maneuvers over the obstacles it might’ve faced to deliver wall-to-wall thrills. Against all odds, you like the characters. You like them even more when you see what kind of plan they’ve got cooked up and you can’t wait to see it executed. It's one of these stories that's so wild it HAS to be true, which makes it a real nail-biter. (March 27, 2020)

Updated photos of the three inmates who escaped from Alcatraz on June 11, 1962 and were never heard from again. The government and Alcatraz officials would like you to think these men died in the bitter cold water, but a letter from one, and a postcard from another sent over 10 years later makes it look like they lived after their escape. The most credible proof was a photo taken in 1975 by a childhood friend of the Anglin brothers when they were last seen in a bar in Brazil. The FBI still hasn't given up looking for them even though each would be between 90 and 100 years old. Frank Lee Morris born September 1, 1926. John William Anglin, born May 2, 1930. Clarence Anglin, born May 11, 1931.

June 17, 1962 - The finding of a plastic bag containing personal effects has strengthened the belief that three convicts who fled Alcatraz Prison last Monday night drowned in San Francisco Bay. James V. Bennett, director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, said the contents of the bag had been traced to the three escapees. Frederick T. Wilkinson, assistant director of the Bureau of Prisons, who was sent to San Francisco to investigate the escape, said he tended to believe the three felons drowned in the bay’s swirling currents. The escapees, all convicted bank robbers, were Frank L. Morris of Louisiana, and brothers John and Clarence Anglin of Florida. Officials said the bag had been picked up Thursday afternoon off Angel Island, about a mile northeast of Alcatraz, by a boat of the Army Corps of Engineers. The bag held a receipt for a $10 money order made out to Clarence Anglin and cashed by the mail teller at Alcatraz. It also contained 50 or so photographs of children and adults. The bag and its contents were turned over to the FBI.

I’ve learned a new fact! Allen West was not able to escape from Alcatraz because the hole he dug out for his vent wasn’t wide enough — but he did it on purpose. He worried that if he picked away too much, he wouldn’t be able to conceal it and would get caught. He figured he’d be able to kick it open easily enough in the night of the escape, but he couldn’t. His accomplices, Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin, had dug wide enough holes, and were therefore able to escape.

June 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In June 1962, inmates Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris escaped from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, a maximum-security prison located on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay.[2] Late on the night of June 11 or early morning of June 12, the three men tucked papier-mâché heads resembling their own likenesses into their beds, broke out of the main prison building via ventilation ducts and an unused utility corridor, and departed the island aboard an improvised inflatable raft to an uncertain fate.[3] A fourth conspirator, Allen West, failed in his escape attempt and remained on the island.

Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin allegedly become the only prisoners to escape from the prison on Alcatraz Island.

Ain't Been Long (Adore)
So you walk down our streets now with a girl that's new in town
And I'm expected to act all calm and collected
Our friends didn't even know about you moving on so fast
And I'm supposed to forget all that like she doesn't fill my spot in your bed
-
Your hand twisted the knife
No I'm not all right thanks for asking
I think that you're stupid
Don't look so surprised I always spoke my mind
I hate that you still got this hold on me
-
Cause it ain't been too long and watching you live on
Has been worse than the nights I cried after our petty fights
Do you play her our songs, are you that far gone
And if you do oh am I on your mind like dynamite
-
So now you bring her around when you know I'm not in town
And you expected our friends to give you no hell for that
My intuition must've been way down with the way you changed this fast
And I'm not really about forgive and forget when a man treats you like that
-
Cause you fired the gun
Look at what you done, it's a good thing
Gone wrong in a second
Made me all undone, yeah I'm stupid and young
I hate that you made me better then bad
-
Cause it ain't been too long but watching you live on
Has been worse than the nights I cried after our petty fights
Do you play her our songs, are you that far gone
And if you do oh am I on your mind like dynamite
-
Cause this ain't what I want your touch's a ghost that haunts
Me like a poltergeist I spend my nights reliving your worst crimes
And it's like I'm numb until your scent comes along
And my walls all fold in like you're John Anglin and I'm and I'm a prison

Unsolved Mystery: What happened to the three sole escapees of Alcatraz?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Located in the center of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, or more famously known as the world's most fortified and inescapable prison, held some of histories most infamous criminals such as Alcapone, George "Machine Gun Kelly," and Whitey Bulger. From 1934 to 1963, 36 men unsuccessfully attempted to escape the prison with all attempts resulting in recapturing or death. However, in 1960, fate joined the paths of three infamous criminals who would change the history of this prison forever.
On June 12, 1962 during a routine morning check, a prison guard noticed inmates John Anglin, Clarence Anglin, and Frank Morris were missing from their cells. In their beds were masterfully made dummy heads made of flesh tone paint and real human hair. A prison wide lock-down was immediately ordered and the prison was thoroughly searched. However, none of the men were found and it was clear that they had just made Alcatraz history as being the first successful escapees.
During the investigation into the escape, it was found that all three men had made seperate unsuccessful escape attempts. It wasn't until fate brought the three of them together in adjoining cells that their masterful plan was concocted. The entire event became possible when one of the inmates discovered saw blades that were used to dismantle the air vents in their cells. Cutting tiny holes directly next to one another, they were eventually able to completely saw a hole through the air vent and gain access to a corridor directly behind their cell block where they created a workshop. In this workshop they managed to fashion together life preservers and a life raft made from over 50 stolen raincoats that had been collected over the 18 month planning process. In order to "vulcanize" the seams of the raft closed, they melted it against hot steam pipes in the prison and inflated the raft by converting a musical instrument into a makeshift air pump. Despite a 30 foot ceiling height, the men managed to climb a network of pipes and gain access to the ventilator which was opened using a bolt carved out of soap. Once through the ventilator, they then climbed to the roof, shimmied down the bakery smoke stack, climbed over the prison fence and launched their raft off the northeast shore of the island.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other than a packet of letters sealed in rubber and pieces of paddle found on Angel island, no evidence of the men either perishing or surviving has ever been found. According to a prison informant, the plan was to cross the bay to Angel Island, cross Raccoon Straight into Marin County where they would then steal clothes and a vehicle. However, no thefts such as this were ever reported in the area.
For some idea to the feat of what these men accomplished if they somehow did survive, I'll include some detail of the island itself. It sits in the center of San Francisco Bay, which is roughly 15 nautical miles away from the closest shore. The average temperature of the water in the pacific ocean is 38 degrees Fahrenheit, or roughly three degrees Celsius. Maybe it's just me, but if they found a paddle at Angel island but never found any other clues to connect where they went, I'm willing to bet they died from dehydration or starvation after somehow getting stuck at Angel Island.
Without sufficient clues or evidence to pursue them, the FBI officially closed the case on December 31, 1979.
