Can’t remember what was the premise for this and I’m too lazy to make a decent comic out of it, so just have this poorly digitalized railao doodle I found in my sketchbook, y’all can add any context you want~
I posted some Kung Lao and mk1 Kung Jin headcanons earlier, so now I think I’ll drop railao thoughts too. Nothing too crazy - I prefer to read/hear about other’s hc more than to think about them myself afgHjHh
- Raiden fell first, but Kung Lao fell harder.
- Lao did confess first tho. After the mk1 events and some chill time together they both realized that they can't stand being separated and stressed about the other’s safety.
- They used to have these red-string “lucky bracelets” when they were kids but stopped wearing them in middle school (prob lost them or because it wasn’t “cool” anymore hah). Later, after mk1 when they officially started dating, they got a pair of matching ones, as a substitute for the wedding rings. 😊 (now go find all of them on my railao art 👀)
- Right now (mk1 and right after) Raiden’s hair is longer than Lao’s, but Lao is growing his hair out so in the future he’ll be rocking that one long-ass braid we all love. 🥰 Also he has no idea how to style hair besides the ponytail and a simple braid, so sometimes Raiden will do his hair for him as soon as it grows long enough.
- Since childhood Raiden collects cool rocks he found around the village and sometimes he gives them to Lao. I suspect that Raiden is a penguin.
- When Lao noticed that the flower petals have a strange tendency to follow him everywhere, he began collecting them and leaving in various places, including Raiden’s home and school desk. After they got together, the petals would follow Raiden on their own volition every time the two are separated. 🌸
- Lao began to pierce his ears right after the school graduation and Raiden thinks he looks cool, but he did only one piercing per ear for himself much later. Although I'm starting to dig Novice’s idea that he can’t wear them because of his lightning powers. 🤔
- Raiden calls Kung Lao just “Lao” or “my Lao” (but not in a “professional setting”, like on missions or in front of people who are not considered their friends). Kung Lao loves giving Raiden cheesy nicknames.
- Lao is so passionate in his affection, he’s borderline aggressive, he kisses and hugs like it’s their last time. Raiden is more sensual and a fan of prolonged physical touch, like holding hands for the whole day.
- Kung Lao is a professional shit talker and yapper, Raiden just nods and listens. He remembers everything tho, even if it’s something ridiculous that Lao himself will forget after five minutes.
- Lao actually can cook at a reasonable level. I also think he’s very creative and resourceful and can make a decent meal from a limited number of ingredients.
- A relatively new follow-up hc inspired by this tt and personal experience discussion with D3rpy: Kung Lao eats like a vacuum cleaner and can’t stand people wasting food because when he was a kid his family had a rough few years when they could barely afford enough food. And although things have changed for the better, it’s a habit now, he’s like a stray animal - you can’t waste food when you don’t know when you’ll eat next. Also this is when he got closer to Raiden’s family, hanging out in his house more often.

Jungkook:
𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Intro
Tumblr media
Every year, he joins the old tradition of traveling, where his ancestors have once ruled the skies. Every year, he meets familiar faces and new ones he's never seen before. Every year, he watches how his brothers find their mates, build their families, and introduce new generations to stories as old as time. But this year, something might be different. This year, there's you - a treasure worth more than he could ever offer.
Tags/Warnings: Dragon!Jungkook, strangers to lovers/mates, mentions of folklore and traditions, modern fantasy, romance, human?Reader, Fluff, Courting, MC kinda wary of kook at first, but he's cute give him a chance pls

"Look at you! All the new color suits you well!" Seokjin laughs, commenting on Jungkook's tattoos which had been changing over the course of the year since he's seen his friends last festival. The younger dragon simply shrugs, though he can't help but stand a bit more proudly at the comment, considering that his body ink is a visual representation of his identity within the Clan up to this point.
It's all part of the tradition after all; as soon as a dragonkin turns 21 years old, they're considered an adult, officially on their own and ready to build their own families and futures, and while not all do it, he likes to wear his identity openly like this.
Even though in the modern world, his dragon blood isn't seen as something to be proud of anymore. In fact, it's treated as nothing more than a simple remnant of lost times, outdated and no longer of any importance.
It's why most members of the dragon bloodlines tend to stay amongst each other, most of their social circles consisting of other dragons, just like he himself tends to do. A lot of his friends have been finding their mates recently, and while Jungkook is happy about that, he himself isn't really interested in that- at least not right now. He's doing good all by himself at the moment, so he doesn't really see the need to settle down right now. He's also not yet found anybody he'd really honestly see himself wanting to settle down with- so for now, he just attends the traditional festivals every year to reconnect with his friends and family, let himself go for a little while and leave all those expectations of the modern world behind for at least a small amount of time.
"Are the rest here too?" Jungkook asks Jin as they both walk into the Hotel close to the festival spaces, many already setting up their tents and booths for tonight.
"Taehyung is coming a bit later, he said the whole trip is taking a bit longer now that his mate's pregnant." He says, making Jungkook nod next to him, greeting some elders along the way. "she's not even properly showing, yet he's already all scrambled up in the head." He jokes.
"I've heard about that! Yoongi owes me a hundred bucks now." He laughs, remembering the bet he'd made with the older dragon last year when Taehyung had announced his engagement to his mate. He'd always dreamed of a big family- so it wasn't surprising to Jungkook that his friend already had the first child on the way.
Maybe one day he'll have his own, too.
"I remember when Yoongi of all people attended the hunt and actually caught his mate too!" Seokjin laughs. "Remember that? It was honestly hilarious to see him so desperate. The old slow guy all out on the fields." He teases, as the man in question walks into view.
"At least I've caught something. Not like mister forever virgin over here." He teases, laughing when Jungkook growls offended, mumbling something about that 'not being true at all hyung.!' Under his breath as the older one walks alongside them.
It's when a giggle catches him off guard, the sound accompanied by what he can only describe as a small bell faintly in the background.
When he looks for the source of the sound, he finds your eyes pretty quickly- gaze hauntingly beautiful as he doesn't even realize he'd just stopped walking for no reason, one of his friends bumping into him the only cause of distraction for him. And for a second, he looks away, only a small but of time - and suddenly you're no longer there, disappearing as quickly as you've appeared in the first place. "Who was that?" He asks no one in particular, Yoongi shrugging as he tries to find what his friend seems to be looking for.
"Who was who?" He asks, before everyone walks away with him to greet Taehyung and his partner who'd just arrived.
⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅ ── ⋅ ⋅
He spots you again as you tie your hair up, elastic in between your lips where you hold it while your hands collect all your hair. It's a normal thing he's seen a lot of people do- himself included, considering the length of his hair these days- and yet when you do it, it looks like Aphrodite captured in marble, details enchanting and intricate.
He almost feels like he shouldn't watch.
And yet he does, even continues to look your way with his hand around his glass of water, small leftovers of his meal completely uninteresting compared to the sight of you walking closer to the older women to help with washing clothes and other things in the riverbed. He can spot Jimin and other male dragons between them as well, and he wonders if you enjoy those tasks.
During this time of the year, everyone is pulled back to the old ways of living. From using almost no electricity to trading things instead of buying it with money, things work simply differently during these next few days, and he personally enjoys this more simpler way of living to the fullest. There's no space for boredom or anything like that- always something to do for him, never an empty second.
Even now, as he watches you.
For a while, you seem to not notice him until one of the women taps your shoulder, talking to you for a few words before you turn your head to meet his eyes. Surprise is written over your features, especially when he boldly pats the spot next to him at the table, silently inviting you to sit with him, maybe even share a meal.
You wonder a little. Does he know that offering a meal is one part of courting a fellow dragon?
He probably does, considering his appearance. He does look like you'd expect a modern dragon to carry himself; from the wyvern tooth necklace around his neck, the colored tattoos under his skin, even the challenging fire behind his eyes. He surely knows his heritage, which makes it even more odd to you.
Though you wouldn't ever pass the chance of getting to know someone like him.
He's well known in the community of female dragons- mostly for his lack of interest in anybody when it comes to actually finding a mate. For a long time, there's been a rumor going around that he wasn't simply interested in females in general- but that was quickly debunked after it got known that he does, in fact, seek out pleasure without any long-term relationship in mind. It makes you wary of his intentions right now though-
Because that's not what you're seeking here, or at all.
You sit down across from him at the table, having dried your hands before joining him, his eyes friendly as they watch you, someone already next to you asking what you'd like to eat. As soon as that person leaves, it's Jungkook's turn to talk to you. "I've never seen you around here before." He tells you, arms now on the table as he's got them crossed in front of him. "I'm Jungkook."
"I know." You nod. "Both of those things." You shrug, looking around for a moment before you spare him another look. "I'm not interested."
"I haven't even proposed anything." He counters, head tilted a bit as he's internally confused as to what you might've heard about him that could make you so wary of his intentions. In his world, he's not done anything questionable, ever- he doesn't fuck around, never broke somebody's heart, is always pretty clear and honest with whomever he crosses paths.
"But I know what guys like you want." You simply say, thanking the young dragon who puts your plate down in front of you. "And I'm not offering that." You tell him without looking, simply starting to eat instead.
"What do I want then?" He asks, moving one of his arms so his chin can rest on his palm. "You got me curious."
"Sex." You bluntly tell him, reaching for the large water pitcher standing somewhat closer to Jungkook than to you- something he instantly notices, lifting it for you instead to fill your cup. "Thanks." You offer quietly, and he nods at that, putting it back down.
"Interesting." He just shrugs after he sits back down in front of you. "That's not what I want though. I mean- you're attractive, don't get me wrong- but I'd like to get to know you first, if anything." He proposes, and you narrow your eyes at him.
"That sounds like you're aiming for my heart." You accuse, pointing your steak-knife at him. "And that's even worse." You say, making him laugh.
"No, I promise. I really just.. think you're really pretty, and from what I can tell, you're also exactly my type- but if you want me to leave you alone, I can totally do that too." He offers politely, and you chew on your food in thought before you rest your cheek on your palm, poking at some vegetables.
"How am I your type?" You ask him, curious to know what makes you stand out to him. It must be something at least- because if he's never wanted a relationship with anybody before why pursue someone as boring as you for that role of all things? You know you're a good friend, but a girlfriend? No, you're lame, and you've come to accept that after all those failed relationships.
Your question makes him light up visually, as he sits up straighter with a bit of a smile on his lips. "It's hard to explain. You're cute, but I like people who have their own mind." He shrugs, explaining his view on you while you don't look at him. "Visually, you check all my boxes. If your character does the same thing, I guess we just have to find out." He tells you, and you look at him now.
"What if you don't check any of my boxes?" You ask him, looking for how he's going to react. "You're too tall for me, for example. And your muscles scare me a little." You jab at him, cutting your food as if you're talking about the weather. "You seem like someone obsessed with working out. I'm not. In fact, I don't ever really work out. I don't really look at what I eat in general, to be honest."
"That's fine by me." He simply answers when you stop talking. "I don't really watch it that much either- only if I have a shooting or something alike." He explains, making you nod quietly. "But if I don't check any of your boxes, like you say, why come over and sit with me then?" He teases, leaning in over the table a little bit.
You shrug. "Your tattoos." You simply tell him. "They're pretty good. Who made these?" You ask, and he looks at them for a second, before he moves his gaze back to you.
"Min Yoongi back in Seoul did most of them. He specializes in dragon tattoos." He explains, and you nod at that.
"I thought I remembered the artstyle." You say. "He's always been very neat with his work." You mumble more or less, before you sigh, putting your cutlery onto your empty plate, pulling your glass of water closer. "Alright- do you want my number now, or.?" You ask, suspecting that he would maybe ask you on a date or something after the whole festival is over. But he genuinely surprises you, when his eyes narrow in a challenging manner, the dragon peeking through in a way as he leans forward over the table, standing up.
You're wary- and he assumes it might be because you've never truly experienced anything good when it comes to finding partners. He can relate to this; and he can also gain power from that simple fact, simply because now more than ever, he wants to prove himself to you. He wants to show you that he truly is different from what you might believe.
"I'll just win you over, easy." He tells you, promises almost, as he pulls the wyvern tooth from around his neck, and leaves it close to your hand- an offering of sorts, a first step at trying to impress you, even if small. "The traditional way." He finishes up, leaving you alone at the table, simply watching as he walks away and merges with the crowd.
Maybe you've underestimated him.
Maybe he's not who you think he is.
Maybe you've finally found your match.

The Yiling Laozu’s Lost Spells, A.K.A. The Weird Ones
A Collection by Mo Xuanyu
aka another crack au
Edit: Now with a part 2!
When the Yiling Laozu died his work was divided up by its use
The Lans took anything deemed undemonic, like Spirit Lures and Demonic Compasses
The Jins snuck out anything dangerous under the lie they’d destroy it
And the rest of it…it got scattered everywhere to every lowdown village and wanna be demonic cultivator.
At first, no one thought this would be a problem. It’s not like anything dangerous is out there, and not just anyone can culitvate
But they forgot two very important things: 1) no one needs to be a culivator to use demonic cultivation and 2) people will find a way to use anything
Soon the culivation world is overrun by really, really weird cases that their cultivators just can’t keep up with
And when I say weird, I do mean weird here’s a look at some of the cases:
Case 1) Giant rabbits the size of houses have been spotted in a mountain near a sheparding villiage eating all their feilds. They asked Hanguang-jun for help. Hanguang-jun went up but he did not come back down. It is suspected the giant bunnies ate him
Case 2) the dancing radishes. Every night on the full moon radishes come to life in a villiage and dance on their beds. Its not hurting anyone, but its really freaking them out
Case 3) dog begone spells. A whole villiage has lost all its dogs and no one knows why. Some of them were really expensive spirit puppies, including one jin guangyao was planning to purchase for his nephew
Case 4) the case of the running radishes. Radishes are leaving their beds a d running away as fast as thry can. Every time someone gets close they keep moving farther away
Case 5) flowers flying to lan clan ribbons and sticking. Every flower, even ones on stems. The lans are walking around covered in flowers and it is becoming a Problem.
Case 6) radishes that look like potatoes. Again? What is with this guy and radishes? This spell would have been harmless if it hadn’t been in a villiage with two rival families of radishes and potatoes. The potato family is accusing the radish family of sabatoge and the radish family is accusing the potato family of stealing their crop
Case 7) Lotus soup possession talisman. If u stick this talisman on someone, they will make lotus and pork rib soup. Always. Again and again. They can’t stop. Everything they make is soup. They’re crying.
Case 8) the peacock tail talisman. Every jin who comes into contact with this talisman will get a peacock tail. They can’t get rid of them. This is a problem.
Case 9) grass butterflies come to life. Again, not harmful, but very annoying. All children love it. All adult toy sellers do not. Their wares keep flying away. Please someone save their buisnesses
Case 10) hug jiang cheng. You must hug jiang cheng. You can’t help it. You can’t stop. If u don’t give him one hug a day you will die. Jiang cheng is furious. Fix this now.
Case 11) give Hanguang-jun compliments. Not hard, no one would notice if it wasn’t stuck to Su She. He hates it. He’s sueing for emotional damages. You better fix this quick!
And these are just the first ones! In times like this, people look to the Chief Cultivator. But the Chief cultivator is off flirting with women, so like all things, this falls to jin guangyao to solve.
So Jin guangyao decides he needs to get those documents back, and who better to send to handle the weird cases no one wants to touch than his weird half brother who’s so fasinated by demonic cultivation?
Thus Mo Xuanyu finds himself with his dream job: chasing down the yiling Laozu’s lost works! What more could he want?
The first case is easy. He goes up and finds Hanguang-jun asleep cuddled in a pile of giant rabbits. All he has to do is find out where the talisman is and remove them. The hard part is getting Hanguang-jun to stop looking like he just killed his wife. Mo xuanyu didn’t know Hanguang-jun had puppy eyes. Since when did he have puppy eyes? Eventually to make him feel better he helps him take all the rabbits to cloud recesses. And at another puppy dog eyed, gloomy look like he’s denied him his long lost lover, Mo Xuanyu gives him the talisman too. Jin Guangyao’s not happy, but really, what was Mo Xuanyu supposed to do? Not make that handsome man smile again?
The second case is a lot harder. Nothing Mo Xuanyu does gets the radishes to stop singing. No spells, not talismans, nothing. The only thing left is to dig them all up and throw them deep into the woods where no one will have to listen. Mo Xuanyu’s ears are still bleeding from their reedy songs
The third case is where Mo Xuanyu feels a bit of hope in Yiling laozu’s work really paying off. Lots of his bullies at the jin sect have dogs. If he can make them vanish, he’ll be safe! Unfortunately this spell makes all dogs leave, or none at all. And even when he finds a way to undo it, he can’t afford to copy it out because jin guangyao took one of the pups to give to jin ling, and if mo xuanyu makes the grumpy jin ling’s beloved new puppy go away, he’ll be kicked out of Koi Tower and feel bad besides
The radishes are back, but they run now. They aren’t even violent, u can’t use them for anything! They just run! It takes mo xuanyu months to catch one and track it back to its home. The radishes have built a radish villige in the forest. Radish farmers radish shop keepers and radish children. Mo xuanyu feels like he’s stepped into a children’s book. Then he hears the familiar reedy songs and it becomes a nightmare. The running radishes found the singing ones. They interbred. Now they have musical theatre radishes. Mo Xuanyu booked it out of there as fast as he can. Fuck the Yiling Laozu. Mo Xuanyu isn’t messing with that
When the flowers stick to the lan, Mo Xuanyu gives up all previous respect for the yiling laozu. He was clearly an idiot. Or a cutsleeve. Mo Xuanyu hopes he’s a cutsleeve. It would be nice to have someone like him to look up too. At least he got to see Hanguang-jun again. He was very nice and showed Mo Xuanyu the back of cloud recesses, where some very familiar rabbits were very happy to greet him.
By case six mo Xuanyu takes back every positive thought he’d ever had about the yiling laozu. He’s not just an idiot, he’s The Idiot. And the potato family and radish family are just as idiotic as he is. Why is he overseeing a trial over radishes turned potatoes? Why is everyone so invested in his investigation? What is wrong with everyone here? (It was the radish family’s son. He was trying to grow potatoes to impress the potato families daughter. They get married and invite Mo Xuanyu to the wedding)
Case seven brings Mo’s respect for the yiling laozu back. The lotus soup spell is terrifying. They can’t stop making soup, or crying. It takes everything he has to stop it, and it isn’t working. He only figures out how to fix it when he says “thank you shijie” on reflex as his infected shijie shoved some soup in his arms. That made her stop. It has to be those words exactly though. This is easy if its a girl. Not so easy when its a 60 year old elderly man.
Case 8 Mo Xuanyu loves his peacock tail. Its proof he’s a jin, and oh so stylish. He’s gonna paint his face to match. But the rest of the jin sect hate it, so he reluctantly figures out how to get rid of it. All it takes is a humble apology, which is way harder to get jins to do than it should be. The last to lose it is jun ling, not because he can’t apologize, but because he likes his tail too, since his Jiujiu told him it made him look “just like his father”. Mo Xuanyu only gets him to get rid of it by promising to sneak the talisman to him in his rooms. They can enjoy their tails together in privacy.
Case 9. Nothing Mo Xuanyu can do about those grass butterflies. He chases them around with a net anyways. Then he gives up and tells the salesmen to start selling grass butterflies in cages instead. As he leaves all the little kids in the villiage trail after him and ask if it was really the yiling laozu who did this, and does Mo Xuanyu work for him, and can he teach them? Mo Xuanyu doesn’t have the heart to tell them that the yiling laozu’s magic isn’t usally all butterflies and rainbows.
Case 10 is terrifying. Who hugs jiang cheng? How do u survive it? Fortunately by this time Mo Xuanyu has a bit of a reputation. People know he deals with “the weird stuff” so jiang cheng doesn’t kill him on sight. It still takes forever to undo the spell. Jiang cheng isn’t any help. He acts so mad, but he’s totally hugging everyone infected back just as fiercely as they hug him. Eventually they find out its another password based release. The password is “good job didi” jiang cheng storms away furiously to break things with his whip. Mo xuanyu swears he heard loud sobbing too, but he’s not saying anything.
Case 11. The yiling laozu was definitely a cutsleeve. There’s no way someone makes a talisman to compliment Hanguang-jun without romantic intent. Mo Xuanyu is privately thrilled to know this, and see what a cutsleeve can do. He is less thrilled to have to work with su she. At least the way to break the spell is funny. Seeing su she stutteringly shout how hanguang-jun is better than him in everyway and then storm out in fury made his year.
The more Mo Xuanyu works on these weird cases, the more he feels like he’s learning about the true nature of the yiling laozu. Unfortunately, most of these cases do not result in easy solutions for the jin, and Mo’s position is just as perilous as before. Worse really, since as his reputation for handling weird borderline demonic stuff, people begin to wonder how, and look to jin sect to see who trained him.
So yeah, Mo Xuanyu gets framed for incest and kicked out of jin tower. He’d always been working with the weird, how far of a stretch would it be to say he’d go mad?
Mo Xuanyu is devistated, all his contacts, all the goodwill he’d earned from other sects and villiages, all gone when that rumor gets out. He can’t bear to face them and see the disgust on their faces
So he decides to turn to the only person who’s weird enough to not judge him
The one person he has enough blackmail on to ensure it.
The yiling laozu
It takes a while, but Mo Xuanyu is very familiar with how the yiling laozu alters talismans and spells at this point, and after three years and a very handy outline from Nie Huasang, he finds a way to bring back the yiling laozu
Without dying
Staring at his hero, his idol, and the biggest pain in his ass, mo xuanyu’s mind is racing. He has so many questions. Which should he ask first? Did u ever tell hanguang-jun u loved him? How’d u handle everyone turning on u? Did u really invent demonic cultivation all on your own?
But in the end the one that slips out is: Why do u have so many spells about radishes?
Wei ying blushes “i had a lot if radishes okay?!!! They were on my mind a lot!”
“That’s an understatement!” Mo xuanyu counters. “Do u have any idea how bad radishes sing? They invented muscial theatre! Theatre!”
“Really? Can I see?!!!” Wei yings eyes light up, and Mo xuanyu realizes he’s made a terrible mistake. The only thing worse than a mad scientists spells is a mad scientist’s curiousity. He’s going to have to follow this guy around the whole of the cultivation world to try and prevent him from making things even weirder!
Ah well, at least he’s not lonely anymore.

A LA MEME. MDZS, Really nice guy who hates only you, hate at first sight?
It was totally inappropriate for a corpse to be popular.
But there it was: the Ghost General was more well-liked every day. He seemed to spend all his time wandering around rescuing maidens from monsters and lifting wagons off of old men. In a few years he'd be a hero of the people.
Even the cultivation world didn't expect harm from him anymore. Most of Jin Ling's peers addressed the corpse as qianbei; Jin Ling didn't, but he seemed to get on with him well enough.
Jiang Cheng hadn't actually said out loud, when he saw Wen Qionglin parting ways with Sect Leader Jin with an exchange of polite salutes, he killed your father, but he'd looked it. Jin Ling, fluent in Jiang Cheng's expressions, sighed.
"It was an accident," he said. "And he's apologized. And, you know, uncle, he was held prisoner by Jin Sect almost my entire life, you can't say he hasn't paid for it. And..."
And they had killed his whole family. And his older sister.
Jiang Cheng looked away. "Huh."
When Jiang Cheng had made his first, clumsy attempt at mending a little of the gruesome breach between himself and Wei Wuxian, the Ghost General had been there, glaring daggers at him from behind the Yiling Laozu.
It had been more disconcerting than it should have been, and Jiang Cheng had stumbled, interrupted himself, and fallen silent enough times that eventually Wei Wuxian had taken pity on him, reached out, patted him on the arm one time, said, "Good talk, Jiang Cheng," and extricated them both from the situation.
Freed from the burden of conversation, he'd returned Wen Qionglin's glare, and lost. Corpses didn't need to blink.
He didn't want the bastard to like him. Which was just as well since it was out of the question. Jiang Cheng had never for a second in his life liked Wen Qionglin; from the first time he'd laid eyes on him when they were youths he'd interpreted him as a pathetic, burdensome coward, and despised him for it.
Owing the man his life had made it worse--he hadn't even wanted to be saved, and it was Wei Wuxian's stupid horrible charm and habit of interfering where he wasn't wanted that had done it, and like hell had he owed anything, when that person's family had murdered his. (I owe him nothing, he'd told himself once, because Wen Qionglin had been the reason he lost Wei Wuxian.)
Another time, he found himself in both their company and drew apart, letting the Yiling Patriarch and the Ghost General play at being mentors to the youth. Neither of you lived to see twenty-five, he wanted to shout. What do you think you have to teach them?
Even Jin Ling...it made him furious. Furious to glance over and see a corpse's stiff face conveying softness.
Furious to look past the crowd and see Lan Wangji's eyes falling on Wen Qionglin with an unmistakable resentment. And to know that it wasn't the stiff propriety of the Lan Wangji of their youths, objecting to the heresy of that fierce corpse's existence; that it was the look of a petty, jealous man resenting the way Wei Wuxian knocked his shoulder together with the Ghost General's and laughed.
"Where do you get off hating Wen Ning?" he asked the next time he found himself alone with Lan Wangji. It was a stupid thing to ask, but if he let himself think about how they were threshing through the underbrush looking for Wei Wuxian, about the last time they had looked for Wei Wuxian together...
Lan Wangji ignored him.
Jiang Cheng snorted. "Okay. So maybe you don't hate him. But he likes you! He's so deferential it makes me want to puke."
Lan Wangji favored him with the merest hint of a sneer, just enough to show he was listening to Jiang Cheng talk.
"You're disgusting," said Jiang Cheng. "Do you really think he shouldn't have anyone but you in his life? That he's your property?"
Lan Wangji's stride broke. It was a triumph, in a way--Jiang Cheng had never thrown him so badly in all the years they'd known each other.
"Each man judges others by his own heart," said Lan Wangji, thick with contempt, and then he was walking ahead with pointed rapidity, determined to separate from Jiang Cheng, until staying together would have meant chasing after him, and Jiang Cheng turned and went the other way, muttering blackly.
In the end, fittingly, neither of them caught up in time to be of use. Wen Ning, with his homing sense for Wei Wuxian, had shown up out of who the fuck knew where and bailed him out.
Jiang Cheng stumbled upon the haunted spring just in time to see a sodden, bedraggled Wei Wuxian launch himself away from his pet Wen's supportive arm and fling himself against the upright form of Hanguang-jun, which bent around him with a reverent murmur.
Jiang Cheng was already turning away in disgust to head back home, hating that he'd let himself be dragged into this, when he heard Lan Wangji say with careful, solemn deliberation: "Thank you, Wen Qionglin. For taking care of him."
Jiang Cheng glanced back against his will to see the Ghost General saluting deeply, wide-eyed, infinitely humble, his murmur that it was nothing special, Hanguang-jun, nearly drowned out by Wei Wuxian's delighted shouting about how good his Lan Zhan was and how much Wen Ning deserved to be appreciated.
Jiang Cheng walked away.
Wen Qionglin wasn't rude to him. Not in any way you could point at. And he knew full well he'd be making an ass of himself if he tried to pick a verbal fight.
After all, they had killed Wen Qionglin's older sister.
The whole cultivation world had done it, but only Jiang Cheng had done it after Wen Qionglin saved his life. He'd told himself he owed no debt for that, and perhaps he hadn't, but the fact remained: of the two of them, one had been brave and virtuous and earned the loyalty of Wei Wuxian.
And one of them had been pathetic, a coward, a burden.
Jiang Cheng could never look at the man without seeing the look in his dead eyes across the length of Suibian.
Jiang Cheng had never been good at lying to himself, especially if the lie was meant to be comforting. He always tried it anyway. Comforting lies used to sound so true, in Wei Wuxian's mouth; he should never have gotten into the habit of relying on that. To letting that person think Jiang Cheng was someone who needed to be swaddled in falsehoods to give him the strength to bear up under his own duties.
Wen Qionglin was a kind, gentle, courageous dead body, shy and courteous and increasingly appreciated for his virtues, in this strange new world created in the wake of Jin Guanyao's disgrace. And whenever his eyes fell on Jiang Cheng they were cold, hard, flat, contemptuous.
Every time he looked at him Jiang Cheng could nearly hear him thinking, like a cold wind against the back of his neck: I should have left you in that heap of corpses with the rest of your family.
What are you worth, Jiang Wanyin, that so many should be spent in saving you? That Wei Wuxian would drag us all into the shadow of death to make you whole, only for you to turn your face aside when it was me lying there, and let him die for us without lifting a finger?
Selfish, whining coward. If only I had left you there to die.
If only, Jiang Cheng imagined spitting back, anger hot and bracing in his throat. If only! I never asked for any of it! How dare you expect me to repay you!
But Wen Qionglin never spoke any of the words out loud. He only looked, cold dead flat black eyes. A frozen river. Sometimes Jiang Cheng thought that if he lashed out hard enough he would break a hole in the ice, and be devoured whole.

I keep seeing the idea that Jiang Cheng is disliked or hated for his actions because "Jiang Cheng Antis” refuse to acknowledge ugly reactions to trauma, or victims who aren’t perfect, basically citing that he should be forgiven more than we do because not everyone is going to react the same to pain and trauma and just because his reactions aren’t perfect doesn’t mean that he should be held accountable for his actions, any of them, and us calling his actions wrong or abuse is us in fact being terrible.
I want to refute this idea for a few reasons:
First off, while I can’t speak for everyone, I know that I and my friends don’t think that his initial reactions being kinda bad are necessarily damning. Nobody is going to be perfect, sometimes when we are stuck in the worst parts of our lives, we do things that we will later regret in the process of surviving those times. It doesn’t really make it okay and we should understand if the people who are around us in those times don’t want to be around us anymore after that, but it isn’t a death knell that he reacts really poorly after the initial fall of Lotus Pier and the death of his parents and everyone he’s grown up with. I have forgiven characters for doing worse, but proving that it was their worst and turning around after that.
The problem with that part is that he doesn’t turn anything around. He never apologizes for strangling Wei Wuxian, he continues to turn the blame for what happened on people who weren’t involved even after getting to kill Wen Zhuliu and torture Wen Chao to death, holding Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji and, for a time, Jin Zixuan as also being responsible even though none of them were, even though he knows this and adjusts his opinion later to drop Jin Zixuan out of the blame, even though he later adds Wen Ning to his list of those to blame despite Wen Ning rescuing him from Lotus Pier and sheltering him. It isn’t a worst moment of his life, brought on by trauma and pain, it’s just the start of his sliding slope downward.
Second off is the idea that this should exonerate him of all of his actions. Look at him! He lost his parents and his clan to war by the Wens! He has suffered so much, becoming a clan leader so young in the fires of war!!!
Except... he’s not the only one, not by a long shot. Lan Wangji, Lan Xichen, Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang all have their fathers killed and their homes attacked by the Wens as well. Both Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen also ascend at very young ages, no one was over twenty when they took up their positions, and at the end of the novel, Jin Ling is even younger when he takes on his own clan leader position. Also he isn’t the only one to go into war so young, Wei Wuxian is a whole five days older than he is, and the whole jianghu falls into war against the Wens, no doubt with other fighters who also lost their homes and families in the process.
It isn’t that it isn’t impressive that he manages to pull it together in the face of all that’s happening, it’s that he’s not the only person by any means to suffer this trauma. Wei Wuxian goes through the exact same journey that he does, but when this argument comes up, it’s always just for why Jiang Cheng shouldn’t be blamed, not about how their whole generation lost so much to a war that their parents left to them by refusing to do anything before even when they all saw the signs of what Wen Ruohan was doing.
The third part is that there’s apparently no limit or expiration date on how long people have to forgive him for doing whatever he wants to do. His trauma is a reason for him to treat people however he wants for as long as he wants, and they should just put up with it because he’s suffering and not all pain is beautiful.
But by the time Wei Wuxian comes back to life, it’s been almost twenty years. A whole generation, long enough for Jiang Cheng to watch his nephew grow to almost adulthood. The world as a whole is changed, he himself has transformed Lotus Pier into a whole new place; and it wasn’t because the Wens had destroyed everything, Wei Wuxian no longer recognizes it, meaning that this happened after he died. The general attitude that JC stans have towards Wei Wuxian is that he shouldn’t hold Jiang Cheng leading a siege against him because it’s been long enough, he should get over it by now. But Jiang Cheng apparently should still get to act without hesitation or consideration of others and their own pain because he is suffering, he is an imperfect victim. It doesn’t matter what else anyone else has gone through and it is unreasonable to hold him to task because he lost his family.
The whole point of poor trauma reactions is that they are moments, responses in time to events. It is one thing for Jiang Cheng to react poorly right after his family is killed and his home invaded. But he gets worse over the course of the story. The day of the attack, he strangles Wei Wuxian. That’s one thing. But three years later he turns on Wei Wuxian, declares him an enemy of the world, tells him to let the Wens be slaughtered even though they are no longer at war, later declares war on Wei Wuxian and personally leads a siege to kill him. In the interim, a time of peace in which supposedly all of his enemies are dead, he hunts down people who he claims to be demonic cultivators and people that Wei Wuxian is possessing and tortures them to death, all the while doing very little to help his people as he will only intervene once someone has already died to the problem. When Wei Wuxian returns to life thirteen years after he died, seventeen years after the war, when Jiang Cheng is literally double the age that this began, despite him deliberately trying to avoid Jiang Cheng, Jiang Cheng seeks him out multiple times specifically to hurt him, first trying to kill him with a whip that can destroy spirits possessing bodies, then tying him up and torturing him with a dog. Later he leads a second siege upon Wei Wuxian, who still has done nothing to him aside from try to avoid him before later attacking him and Lan Wangji by first demanding that they leave, then refusing to let them do so, driving Wei Wuxian to a qi deviation (which can be fatal, that’s how Nie Mingjue died) and attacking Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian with Zidian while Wei Wuxian is unconcious before Wen Ning stops him. Even in the temple, he’s still demanding that Wei Wuxian play by his rules of debts, he’s upset because he knows that he has gone so much farther than anyone has any right to and he has nothing to hold over Wei Wuxian’s head anymore.
Fifteen years of hurting everyone around him isn’t a poor trauma response. That’s deliberate and chosen. That is what he wants to do. It is a clear line of events where in the end, the trauma is an excuse over anything else.
If it had ended at the beginning of this list, Jiang Cheng would be a very different character and Modaozushi would be a very different novel. If it were just a trauma reaction and he didn’t want to hurt anyone in the long run, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
But you cannot exonerate everything with the fact that his parents died when he was seventeen. Especially not when we have so many other people who react in so many other ways to the same pain. It is frankly ridiculous that people think he is the only one to suffer in the story, even though it is clear that no one escapes the novel unscathed and a hell of a lot of people die. Sometimes even at his hands or by his orders.
Jiang Cheng is not unsympathetic. I can understand what hurts he feels, at least to an extent. But an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and he just keeps doing it. And then his stans show up and claim that it’s fine for him to want to kill everyone who he hates (not necessarily everyone who’s even done him wrong, and they certainly like to ignore everything he does to them) because he’s an ugly trauma victim.
He may be that, at the start. But twenty years down the line, when he gets excited at the thought of getting to torture people, that isn’t a trauma reaction anymore.
That’s a choice.

REPOSTED FROM TWITTER!!
something something the difference in how Cheong Myeong loves Tang Bo, Cheong Mun and Cheong Jin differently in different ways yet they're all ultimately the ones he trusted the most in his past life..
continuation under cut vv
Cheong jin was his sajae, older than him yet he treats him as if he's the younger sibling lmao… he bullies him like how an older sibling would and yet he also fiercely protects him because of how cheong jin is— he's the brains of mount hua. Cheong myeong doesn't love him any less than cheong mun or tang bo. He loves cheong jin fiercely, seen from when he argued with cheong mun when he found out that cheong jin went missing. he would've searched all the mountains and the oceans if it meant he could see cheong jin
It's why he broke down once he found cheong jin!!! Even after so long he had found his sajae, and fulfilled his wish of being buried in mount hua!!! he loves his sajae and wants to be a good sahyung to him!!!!! and he's disappointed in himself that he only found him now!!!
he knew and trusted cheong jin to have those martial techniques that were lost to time because he knew of how protective he was of mount hua's sword techniques. he trusted cheong jin because he knows the other was dependable and one of the only people who remained a constant in his life when he was shunned for being himself or seen as the untouchable saint. cheong jin was there along with cheong mun and tang bo, and cheong myeong was happiest when he was with them because the three were the ones who cared for him the most [teary eyed]
Cheong Mun was a father/older brother figure for Cheong myeong. he was the one that cared for him since he was a child, was the one who watched the snotty little kid grow up to be a talented— and still bratty— adult who was worshipped as the plum blossom sword saint. Throughout it all, Cheong Mun was there. Cheong Mun was there when cheong myeong walked his first steps, when he bloomed plum blossoms from his blade when first handling the sword, was there until his death— watching over him til' the end.
Cheong mun was one of the only people he could trust. as said in the qna; (not word for word ,) when you are shunned out by the world, how do you see the person who lent a hand to you, who continuously defends you? Cheong mun did not sway in staying by cheong myung's side, he was there for his sajae his whole life and he wouldn't stop. out of everyone in the world who shunned him, cheong mun was by his side and unwavering. AND IT MAKES ME CRY!!!! Cheong myung would have circled the world for Cheong Mun, the man who cared for him and guided him.
Could you just. Imagine the person who was with you since you first opened your eyes dying in front of you? to lose such an important person, and then having to live years with that view of them dying in front of you?? the grief of losing the one person you knew your whole life…
Cheong myeong and cheong mun really make me emotional because… even when their relationship did get strained, the love was STILL there. They still loved each other to the end. They might have not been bound by blood but they were bound by the trust and love they have for each other. I LOVE THEM SO BAD
Now…. cracks knuckles. Tang Bo. Tang bo is a different case from the others. Think of it as the difference in how you trust your family, versus how you would trust a friend, or say a partner. Tang Bo, ultimately, was the one who understood cheong myeong's situation the most.
Tang Bo was also hailed as a genius, the dark saint, who was the most proficient in poisons. Neither of them were seen as actual people— they were seen as a figure to look up to, monsters in their own fields. Of course, Cheong mun and cheong jin were one of the closest to cheong myeong, but they can't relate to him as intimately as tang bo does. They understood each other from the heart and soul, could work together in harmony, could predict each other's movement in the battlefield as they protected each other. They knew each other and their techniques better than anyone else. Cheong Myeong trusted Tang Bo with his LIFE. he could walk into any sort of danger when he knew Tang Bo was watching his back. He could be himself with him, not the sword saint, but cheong myeong.
The pure TRUST they have in each other is mind boggling. it was the harmony they had with each other, almost as if you could not have one without the other. Tang Bo trusted Cheong Myeong as much as Cheong Myeong trusted him!!!
I mean, Tang Bo made an entire technique and adjusted his martial arts to protect Cheong Myeong better. Tang Bo loved him to the point that doing something like that was a small price to keep him safe. He cared. Tang Bo, Cheong Mun and Cheong Jin cared for him.
They seek out each other when they need something to make them feel better, seeking out each other because they know the other knows them best and they would give up everything for the other.
They trusted each other so much, to the point that Cheong Myeong would feel secure just by having Tang Bo behind him on the battlefield. it's why he made one of the tang family members stand behind him, because even something familiar— no matter how clumsy, gave him that sense of security again, no matter how faint it is

I’m screeching here like a madwoman! Tantai Jin shows Susu the life that never was but which he has always secretly yearned for since the moment he met her. And it makes such a heartbreaking sense that she refuses to believe something so simple would be enough for him because she has never understood that the whole time he has loved her he took the scraps she threw his way and treasured them like the most priceless of jewels. One last time, he lays his whole heart bare in front of her; however, she once again rejects him and it’s one of the few times Tantai Jin allows himself to show her all the anger and pain he feels each time she does that to him and doubts his love for her. This is his heart and she tramples all over it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until his dying day, he tries to please Susu, secretly hoping she would feel love for him even for a moment regardless how fleeting it might be. He reveals to her something deeply private, his most coveted dream and hope for the future he now can never have because he’s given it all up, any hope for happiness and contentment, so she could have her future, without him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tantai Jin always wanted what he never got - to be loved and accepted by his in-laws, sharing a meal with them and for her to be only his - an ordinary life. He has always wished and longed for so little and even that he could never get.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It guts me how he chooses the robe Susu bought for him and is proudly showing it off - he is literally goading her with that fourth-wall grin of an eager little boy he gives her to look at him wearing it, recognize it, and see how her family loves him - but, of course, she doesn’t even notice because she has never realised how those little mundane things she barely remembers have meant for him. They are his most valued possessions and treasures he’s been hiding and protecting them in the deepest places of his heart for more than 500 years where not even the ancient Devil God could reach and taint, and proofs of the innocence he has never lost and has managed to keep despite all the terrible things that happened to him.

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hello, I need help finding a story. I think it's not on AO3 but on Tumblr.
In the story, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are engaged since childhood, but LWJ is not thrilled with the idea to the point that he goes to war to escape the wedding. However, WWX goes with him to protect him. In the end, in an attempt to kill Wen Ruohan, LWJ makes a strike that would kill both Wen Ruohan and himself, but WWX jumps in front of the sword and gets seriously injured. I don't remember anything else, except that the last words WWX says are that he wants LWJ to marry for love, to which LWJ replies, "Then you must live."
Please help me find it. Thank you so much.
FOUND? rebuttable presumption masterpost by sarah-yyy

2. Hello! I’m looking for a fic that was on ao3 where WWX and LWJ were both wolf shifters. I think there was a mating run in the beginning and LWJ ended up rejecting WWX and he fell very ill as a result. They eventually moved past it but they didn’t get together until one day JGS I think it was drugged WWX and he was sent into heat. LWJ ended up protecting him and guarding his door throughout his heat. They did end up together in the end. @bigmeatycl0ws

5. Btw there's a fic that I forgot the title of. Basically Wei parents survived from the night hunt and seek Lotus Pier for help. They raised Wei baby there and I think Madame Jin, Madame Yu, and Wei mama did sisterhood vows? Wei dad found his siblings one being Sisi and the other being a Nie wife. Yao's mom was rescued from the brothel too and there's a whole chapter about it. I don't remember much but I remember it being so long and oooh Baby Wangji and Wei baby meeting as kids! Thank you!

6. Hi there! I hope you're doing well! I have a fic I'm looking for and it's driving me a bit crazy. Wangxian is the main pairing but what I remember about it the most is that Nie Mingjue basically adopted him? He did live with the Jiangs for a bit I think but there was a big falling out so he was kicked out and since he and Huaisang are friends, NMJ took him in and was very protective of him. I believe the fic was in modern au. I'm sorry I can't provide more info and I hope you can help, thank you!
FOUND? Come Around and Stay by trippednfell (M, 160k, wangxian, modern, slow burn, kid fic, found family, it gets worse before it gets better, PTSD, blood and injury, dissociation, trauma, angst w happy ending, musicals, alternating pov, JC & WWX reconciliation, hurt/comfort, panic attacks) If OP is looking for a fic where WWX was a IT genius and collaborated wit Nie gege's security company then this is the fic :)) / Lwj is a trauma surgeon and wwx is an IT genius who moonlights as a music teacher.

7. i’m looking for a fic where wei ying hasn’t seen lan zhan in YEARS and lan zhan and his brother are some kind of celebrity (they’re on smth like the great british bake off) and lz gets into an accident which reunites them, and around the end wwx finds out that lsz is a-yuan. i think wwx was a doctor before the separation but i can’t be sure, it was modern au. thank you !!! @willesnelson

8. Heya! So, I’m trying to find this fic that I forgot to save the link to, but all can clearly I remember is WWX needing to wear a silver mask due to some prophecy or curse and having an arranged marriage with LWJ. WQ might’ve become a concubine at some point and I think that development lead to WWX moving from Gusu to Yiling and the Lans were very much not happy about it.
I’ve looked high and low for it and I’m really worried it got deleted. (if it was, do you know anybody with a copy? Because if I’ve lost another fic to the void I’m gonna cry)
FOUND? imstillthinkingaboutithmm: #8 is a price to pay by wangxianist, its deletez from ao3. I have a copy and if you want it feel free to dm me.

10. Hi! :D
I’m looking for a fic in which wwx thought lwj was in love with one of his siblings, I can’t remember if it was jyl or jc sorry. I can’t remember either of it was modern or canon era but it wasn’t too far from canon (like it wasn’t ABO or Royalty or Fantasy or some other kind of super alternative universe. If it was an AU it might’ve been a college or high school one but I doubt it since I usually don’t read too many AUs) My best bet is it was in the cloud recesses study arc but then again, I read it a long time ago and can’t remember much.
Sorry if it’s too vague, and thank you!

11. Hello!! I'm looking for an abo fic where o!wwx is married to a!lwj, but it was madam yu trying to get rid of wwx, they didn't have feelings for each other yet. lwj is a bit of a dick to wwx along with the rest of the lan sect (except lxc), wwx is trying to make things work, but later he gives up on having a decent marriage, but then lwj realizes that he's actually amazing and really wants to be his husband please.
There's a scene where lxc helps wwx get an audience with the lan clan elders to defeat the waterborne abyss with his luring talisman, which is where lwj falls hard. I also remember wwx being forbidden from interacting with the younger disciples, and wangxian getting into a big fight over having kids.
I would really appreciate if you could find it, thanks so much for your hard work <3 @vellialavellious
FOUND? Concord by Deastar (T, 41k, WangXian, Arranged Marriage, Gūsū Lán Sect Rules,   Depression, Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending) Lwj and wwx have an arranged marriage where wwx slowly slips further and further into depression as the lans won't let him do anything or associate with anyone. 12. looking for a fic that has this scene: lwj drives wwx home with his car. both of them are in... a fraught dynamic? i dont remember the context, but i do remember them not being in the best of relationship (as in, theyre not... getting along well? i dont think they were in a romantic relationship at that time). when the car arrives at wwx's home (i remember the car being parked at a... field (?) so maybe it was an apartment of some sorts?), wwx left the car in anger or disappointment or similarly negative mood, with lwj pretending he doesnt care. after wwx left, lwj cries hard, the hardest he ever cried in his life. then wwx came back to the car because he left his phone, and saw lwj crying, and realized that lwj was only pretending to be okay. iirc their relationship improves after this, but i dont remember if i remember correctly

16. I'm looking for a fic I read a while ago that involved WWX somehow getting erased from existence in exchange for a better world with everyone he cares about alive or something similar. What I know is that he meets LWJ again and LWJ falls in love with him and WWX parents are alive and eventually figure out who he is. There's a scene in Cloud Recesses at dinner where Wei Changze asks if LWJ will marry WWX and he says no (probably because of his parents awful marriage) and WWX is heartbroken.
FOUND! This is Elisa's thread fic. Super popular Shrek Au. Hehe

17. Hi! I'm trying to find a fic in which Lwj dies during his punishment. The discipline handling the whip is thrown out of the sect for having killed Hgj. The disciple feels so guilty for killing Lwj that 13 years later, he uses the body sacrifice array to bring Lwj back. Wwx is alive on this one, and if I remember it right, he created the YillingWei sect. Wwx absolutely hates the Lan sect for killing Lwj.
FOUND? Restart from the End by EmBlu (IcyDeath) (G, 72k, wangxian, major character death, resurrection, role reversal, canon divergence, yiling wei sect au, angst, hurt/comfort,  hurt LWJ, angry WWX, WIP)

18. Hello! I am looking for a fic where Wei Wuxian becomes a god after his death. He is given a heavenly abode that he can shape as he pleases, and he shapes it like the docks at Lotus Pier. Wen Qing’s spirit becomes his secretary, and Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan’s spirits are his advisors. At the end there is a scene where the remaining human cultivators storm into his abode across a long bridge. I think eventually Lan Wangji ascends and they become a matched set of deities. Thank you!
FOUND? Of Destruction and Rebirth by demoniqt (M, 88k, wangxian, JYL/JZX, major character death, rape/non-con, underage, graphic depictions of violence, canon divergence,Slow Burn, Canonical Character Death, GodWWX, God & Goddesses au, BAMF WWX, Grieving LWJ, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, JC & WWX Reconciliation, Rabbits, Fix-It, Attempted Sexual Assault, Attempted Rape/Non-Con, Blood and Gore, Castration, Lots of it, repeatedly, Punishment, Hell)

19. I’m looking for a fic, modern AU, where WWX is a Hannah Montana style idol. Only he was at the audition because JYL was supposed to be there but she got sick so he panicked and took her place. So he’s a female idol, & LWJ is starting to feel like WWX has gotten bored of him at school &lowkey panicking. HeTakesSolaceInHisNewFavorite idol (WWX)&dreamsOfGiving‘her’FootRubs He gets to meet ‘her’ only while he does WWX’s skirt gets flipped. WWX uses his real voice to whisper Lan Zhan in his ear. @any-mouse

20. It's MDZS/The Untamed. It's alternate universe. During the part of Canon where jiang Cheng strangles Wei Wuxian he's found by someone else. It's the one where he ends up with the Wen and they decide to leave the war. They find an abandoned village and take Wei Wuxian with them. I believe he loses his memory of the event and it has some permanent or semi-permanent side-effects to his health?
One of the Wen elders pretends to be a lost Wei relative when they take him back to the Nie compound with A-Yuan due to concerns about the weather/winter and whether they can survive it in their small village? They also deliver a letter or explain what happened to cause his state and that he doesn't remember?
I've found these ones and it's not the one where he ends up at the riverside village or with the Lan early or with the Wen and then declared a traitor by Jiang Cheng.  He does end up with the Wen in this one, but no one learns that they’re the Dafan Wen if I remember correctly and he's not declared a traitor. Any help would be appreciated. @saharrashadow
FOUND? Go Hiking With a Blindfold On by Hauntcats (Not rated, 12k, wangxian, JC & WWX, WQ & WWX, time travel fix-it, not JC friendly, no golden core transfer) Apart from happening just prior to the core surgery rather than Lotus Pier's fall, everything else seems present.

Now that I've slept on it, i gotta say, I don't think New's plan ever involved any of them surviving this, including him. I think his plan was to make them all admit to it, kill them, make Phee admit to his role in it, kill him, and then kill himself.
If... and that's a BIG if for me, since i'm still on my white is sus agenda, but if white is truly innocent, maybe he gets to live.
none of them are redeemable. some of them don't exactly deserve to die, but as an older sibling, i understand the rage New feels. in fact, i'm finding it a tad difficult to grasp how tame he's being about it.
and i see nothing wrong with him doing this for selfish reasons. this happened to him too. he lost his brother, his whole family because of these assholes. he gets to be angry and sad because of it. and he gets to deal with it in a way that helps him. it wasn't some sad accident that cause the ruin of his entire family, these cunts did all of this on purpose.
his comment that it doesn't matter what non would have wanted is valid af. non is dead (or is he), they made sure they ruined that boy completely, they don't get to weasel their way out of this piggybacking on his kindness. they don't get to use him for their own gain, AGAIN
AND JIN. do not even get me started on jin. mr nice guy whose first reaction after NOT confessing his feelings and finding out his crush has a boyfriend and then seeing said crush being raped by a teacher is TO FILM IT. even fluke was like wtf man. you know you're fucked in the head when even fluke judges you. fluke's been silent the entire time, about EVERYTHING, but this was the hill he decided to get judgy on.
jin was instrumental in getting non to go along with all of their shit. he was the nice friend who'd put his hand on non's shoulder, bat his eyelashes, and get non to do whatever the gang wanted. he talks big game about how they're mean in calling non greasy, and yet he never, not once stopped the others from bullying non. even fluke calls him out on it when tee drugs non and takes him away. jin get's all oh no they're taking non away and fluke outright tells him to do something about it if he has a problem with it... and surprise surprise, jin does nothing.
and phee, phee doesn't get to forgive jin. it's not phee's place to understand and forgive, phee washed his hands of non, he was done with him, and just cause he feels guilty for his last words to non doesn't mean he gets to absolve himself of his guilt by finding someone who's done non worse and forgiving him. that video ruined non's life. and even if he could come back from such a scandal (he was coerced (read raped), what fucking scandal, but that's a different conversation), that video was directly used to stop any chance non ever had of being found by the police or the police even looking into his disappearance.
and even if jin wasn't the one who leaked it, he was the one to film it. in fact, i repeat, it was his first reaction to seeing his UNDERAGE crush being raped by a teacher. had jin not been a colossal dick, that video wouldn't even exist in the first place, and no one would use keng to make it seem that non ran off with his lover.
also, i don't think non is dead. and i don't think white is there by mistake. and i'm sus of that friend of tee's. he got way too much screen time for someone who's supposed to be there just for exposition.
and that bob haired thug, the one that's all i don't know i don't know. SUS. last time someone didn't know didn't know nie huaisang took down meng yao and exposed all his crimes.

BTS FIC RECS (PART 10)
Jeon Jungkook/Jung Hoseok | J-Hope
blood orange by seokabunny *
“We should’ve held you off from it longer, huh? You got to it so early. Everyone else had to wait.” Hoseok’s voice is buzzing warm and sweet in his ear. “Taehyung and Jimin were twenty-three. Jin-hyung was twenty-seven for his first time.” Jungkook’s drooling, slack-mouthed over the hinge of Hoseok’s shoulder. He can smell the dried sweat all over his pretty, tanned skin. “Hyuuung—” “You were twenty-one, baby. None of the others got it that young.”
Jeon Jungkook/Kim Namjoon | RM
baby by feraljk *
Jungkook wanted Namjoon to be his leader for life—not just on stage, not just at work, not just anything. Every day, every hour, every minute, he wanted Namjoon to be his sun.
begotten by macabre
Jeongguk was ready to start his family. With or without the man of his dreams.
soft skin, soft eyes by babiestbat *
Yoongi hums, tilting his head. “I bet Jungkook would be up for it,” he considers, swirling the rest of his whiskey around in his glass. “He’s really into being eaten out.” Namjoon’s glass slips out of his hand. Thankfully, he’s sitting on the floor, and the glass just bounces a little before settling. “What?” he says. Yoongi laughs brightly, gums on display. “Aish, don’t look at me like that. He likes it a lot! And you know he thinks you’re hot,” he goes on. (Namjoon does not know that, and he feels faint at the thought.) “He’s already seen you at your worst, you could sneeze into him and I’m pretty sure he’d just laugh it off. He’s a perfect first, too. He likes just about everything.” *** Namjoon's never eaten someone out. Yoongi knows the perfect candidate.
Jeon Jungkook/Min Yoongi | Suga
HGU by sseoltangie (WIP) *
Disaster strikes and as a consequence, Jungkook lands himself in prison. But he's tough—all he has to do is survive the next months. At least that's what he thinks. Until he becomes the cellmate of attempted murder convict Yoongi.
Jeon Jungkook/Park Jimin
Come feed the rain by vminkookminv
Jungkook gets teased by his classmates a lot for being a pissbaby. Jimin finds out why.
Jung Hoseok | J-Hope/Kim Namjoon | RM
Lost in the Lights by mangust_d
Alphas around the world are losing their knots due to a mysterious illness. Hoseok convinces Namjoon to try one last thing before he succumbs to a sad, knotless life: visiting an alphas-only club.
Kim Namjoon | RM/Min Yoongi | Suga
Divine and Raw by anon1792 *
It starts, as these things are wont to, with an offhand comment.  Yoongi, in Namjoon’s old don’t be a prick cactus sweatshirt from an adolescent trip to the US with its stretched loose wrist-holes pushed up to reveal his pink elbows, half asleep and half scrolling through his phone while Namjoon works on his dissertation, mumbles, “If you get tested tomorrow, I’ll let you raw me.” Namjoon stumbles and slams his chin so hard into the coffee table, he sees stars.
If Nice Guys Finish Last, Meet Me in the Back by NinjasWearSneakers *
Namjoon has been secretly in love with his best friend Yoongi for years, so he’s familiar with the pain of watching him date other people. Now, Yoongi is getting married, and Namjoon is his best man, so he’s been trying very hard to prepare himself for the pain of that whole ordeal. However, something much more painful happens instead, leaving Namjoon to try to help Yoongi pick up the pieces.
Just Got the Taste For It by deepslowpanic *
“Maybe that guy just wasn’t your type, Namjoon,” Yoongi says after a few moments of quiet, That could be true. The guy was cute, but he wasn’t exactly what Namjoon thinks he’s looking for. Though he’s not entirely sure what that is, not sure about his type, or quite how to figure it out. “Thanks, hyung.” “Of course,” Yoongi says. “I’m here to guide you on your baby bi journey. I’m like your spiritual guide.” Namjoon snorts. “To what?” “The prostate, obviously.” -OR- Newly out as bisexual, Namjoon is trying to figure out his type and exactly what he’s looking for. But every interaction with his (kind, patient, pretty) roommate pushes Namjoon closer to thinking he might already know…
whoopsie daisy, never knew that was your boo, baby by rayfelle *
Not knowing how to respond to this sudden possible courting situation, Seokjin shuffles away to continue his shopping. Was it a courting gift? Seokjin has never met the human man, but it’s not like that matters much to wolves. Do humans operate the same way? But the human offered him food, which points towards courtship. Once back home Seokjin tries to google his questions, like his coworkers often recommend he does. Google, sadly, does not help at all. (or: a human starts courting Seokjin in the middle of a supermarket - he is determined to do his very best in return while Yoongi has no idea what he has just started)
Garden of Eden by sseoltangie
"But how can we…" Yoongi continued, whispering, scared to burst the bubble, scared Namjoon would leave as soon as he’d spoken the words. “When we’re both omegas.”
Kim Seokjin | Jin/Min Yoongi | Suga
driving getaway by silklace
“I’m not upset.” Seokjin nods. “I can tell by the way your face is all red. And blotchy.”
is this love? by sweetbubble3
four months after breaking up, yoongi logs into his and jin’s stardew valley co-op farm only to find that jin has been playing without him.
love you snow much by caprikoya *
Seokjin stomps into the chalet and shucks off his coat and boots at the door, cheeks and nose burning with the cold. When he throws open the door to the bedroom, Yoongi sits up from where he’s still cocooned in the duvet on the bed. “Did you win?” He asks, blinking blearily at Seokjin with his eyes still puffy from sleep. Seokjin doesn’t answer, because Yoongi knows that solo snowboarding is not a sport that you can win at, and is just being a little shit. Seokjin’s heart swells– he’d missed Yoongi having the energy to be annoying. To show his affection, he climbs onto the bed and sticks his freezing hands down the back of Yoongi’s shirt. Yoongi shrieks like some kind of bird of prey, and then promptly bites Seokjin on the arm. -or- After a long busy period at work keeps them away from each other, Seokjin and Yoongi take a vacation.
SEALed With a Kiss by deepslowpanic (WIP) *
“We’re mates,” Yoongi says simply. “We’re married now, you put my coat around me. Now you’re my husband.” “I -” Seokjin cuts himself off. He feels insane, all of this is insane. It doesn’t make sense, there’s no way Seokjin is suddenly married to a - a - seal? “That’s not how human marriage works,” Seokjin says finally, voice cracking a little. “You can’t just say we’re married.” “Why not?” Yoongi does not seem deterred at all. “That doesn’t matter. Humans are stupid anyway. But you’re hot and you smell nice. You’ll be a good mate. With your broad shoulders, your swimming abilities must be admirable. And you can fish, a provider.” He nods, as if this is all settled. “So you’re my husband.” -OR- Burned out from work, famous YouTube chef Seokjin heads to winter-quiet Jeju to escape for a while. His only goals are to relax, and try to find his spark again. When he rescues a naked man on the beach, Seokjin couldn’t have predicted what he was in for. But an accidentally acquired husband in the form of soft, impish selkie Yoongi might be just what Seokjin needs.
Big things come in small packages by teamkimseokjin (closetfairy) *
Seokjin discovers a new kink when he sees Yoongi rubbing his little round belly after a big meal. Okay, so maybe it's a little more than just a kink..
somebody does love (but i'm thinking `bout min yoongi) by missandrogyny *
One thing that Seokjin’s learned after knowing Yoongi for so long is that if he doesn’t want to talk about it, he really doesn’t want to talk about it, and he’ll do anything and everything to dodge the conversation. It’s why it’s so frustrating to deal with him sometimes; he never wants to talk about things, and if Seokjin’s being honest, he too doesn’t want to talk about things, which means that it’s highly possible for the both of them to just exist beautifully in Not-Talking-About-Things harmony. Hoseok and Namjoon have told them repeatedly that it isn’t healthy or mature for them to be acting like this, which is why Seokjin, being the older one, is out here trying his best. But Yoongi is stubborn on good days and a downright pain in the ass on bad ones, and after three more times shooting down Seokjin’s attempts to talk about it, Seokjin decides to do what any self-respecting man would: He talks to his girlfriend about it. (Or: College AU where Yoongi writes an unhinged pining song, and Seokjin just can't get it out of his head.)

On the same fateful night, Yoongi goes missing during a covert operation, and an injured hybrid is found fleeing from his handlers. Compassion is a luxury afforded to few, but who could resist a bunny in distress? OR: The story of how Seokjin tried to carry the entire world on his broad shoulders and failed miserably.
wisteria by feraljk (WIP) *
Hoseok had gone through four foster packs in the past twenty-two months, and, with two months before he would be sent away for good, he was being given to a fifth. He tried his best to not go soft when he knew it would all be taken away, but even a feral omega latches on to the feeling of home.
Lost Under the Moonlight by ArianneMaya (WIP) *
After being accused of something he didn’t do, Jimin discovers he’s a wolf shifter and is put into the Shifter Reintegration Program. On paper, the program is intended to give ‘unconscious shifters’ in the carceral system a chance at a better, healthier life. In practice, for an unpresented omega like Jimin, it means being handed over to a pack who wants to bitch him. No matter what the program entails, the Bangtan pack wants a new packmate, not a slave. And after running his whole life, Jimin might just find somewhere to call home. That is if he can bring himself to trust them.
dwell by macabre (WIP) *
The pit was the worst prison alphas could be sent to. It was a place to die with no hope, no dreams, no sun. Just a pit so deep in the earth it might as well be hell. Then, an omega is sent down as a prisoner. For the first time ever. Into an ecosystem already designed to eat itself alive.
Jeon Jungkook/Kim Namjoon | RM/Min Yoongi | Suga
daffodils by feraljk (WIP)
Some submissives could live by themselves, could take care of their own spacing and dropping and eating and everything else, but Jungkook - he wasn’t like that. He was weak, his family had always told him so. And now, breaking down in front of a strange dom in a bathroom while he was at work, he’d proved them right.
Jung Hoseok | J-Hope/Kim Seokjin | Jin/Min Yoongi | Suga
You Really Float My Boat by deepslowpanic
“Hoseok-ah? Yoongi whips his head to the side, staring at his husband in confusion. “What?” “Hi, Seokjin hyung,” Hoseok says, voice sweet as honey. “Hi, Yoongi hyung.” “Hello Seok-ah,” Yoongi rasps. When he turns his head, Seokjin is staring at him. “You know Hoseok?” Seokjin asks. Yoongi nods. “I know Hoseok.” he blinks. “You know Hoseok?” Seokjin nods back. Huh. “Wow!” Hoseok gasps, clapping his hands together. “This is so strange! Who would have thought my ex-boyfriends would have ended up married?” -OR- When Yoongi agrees to go on a cruise with his husband, he doesn’t expect to run into his ex-boyfriend. And he definitely doesn’t expect to find out Seokjin dated him too. Shared memories bring up forgotten feelings, and maybe a vacation is the perfect time to let loose.
Jung Hoseok | J-Hope/Min Yoongi | Suga/Park Jimin
only two people by silklace *
Jimin looks up at him. That is, Jimin looks over him. All over him. When his gaze lands on Hoseok’s face, his expression stretches into something annoyed even with all that heat in his looking. “What.” “C’mon.” Jimin swallows. “Come shower with me, baby.” Jimin scratches at the back of his neck. He’s still gripping his phone in his other hand. “Yoonji know you call me that?” It’s not really a question though, not when Jimin knows the answer.
Kim Namjoon | RM/Kim Taehyung | V/Park Jimin

I feel like ppl watched ep 11 of dff and rly jumped on the 'Phee clearly didnt care abt Non and totally gave up on getting revenge' train. which like. i get in a way. But i've been thinking abt Phee and New and their motivations for revenge bc, ultimately, neither of them are really getting revenge FOR Non - both of them are seeking revenge for selfish reasons, however their circumstances and the direct effects of the group's actions change how they feel about exacting their plan, I think.
Phee is largely seeking clarity and wants to clear his own conscience. Obviously he's (rightfully) vengeful towards the group bc they hurt Non so deeply, but to me it felt like throughout the series Phee has really come to realize that there is not a single "innocent" in the house (except perhaps White). Also, in spite of himself he rly did catch feelings for Jin, and may even feel some level of genuine affection for at least some of the other group members. So yeah, he falters in their revenge plan and I rly think he's just questioning Everything by the end of ep 11. Like who is he rly doing all this for? What role did he play in Non's death? What will revenge get him really? and then obviously we kinda see him decide that killing the whole group isn't going to help him so he turns the gun on New, but he still hesitates.
Meanwhile, i've seen and heard so many people rly like praising New for being ig decisive, vengeful, there's been a lot of praise for his absolutely ruthless approach to revenge. but i feel like everyone's kinda overlooking that he's also seeking revenge for purely selfish reasons?? like he basically said "fuck what Non might've wanted, i want you all dead bc you ruined MY life." it all came back to how the group's actions towards Non had a negative impact on New's life, like he goes on abt how he could've been in London, his parents could've been alive, it's just wholly selfish. Like obviously he cares about Non and what happened to him or else he would've just fucked back off to London - but the revenge he wants really has very little to do with Non. New seems to care more that his own life was fucked over than that Non's was lost. So, he wants to find out what happened and take out the people that forced him to come back to Thailand and deal with his family. He is I think a much more black and white character compared to Phee. New is on the you all fucked up? cool time to be punished, whereas Phee seems to be more empathetic to the gray zone surrounding every character (except maybe Por - i still haven't found a redeeming quality for him oop). This is likely bc Phee was directly involved w/ the events leading to Non's disappearance whereas New only came back to the aftermath, after his life abroad had been interrupted.

.... I mean.... Both can exist.... Which it did in this scenario. It's not impossible to be both powerless to act politically whilst also not having all the information that should have been made available to you... In fact, I'd argue that it was the latter that made things worse for him.
Wwx pushing jc away and keeping him out of the loop is part of the reason why he was powerless.... He kept him in the dark. He was going down a self destructive path. From Jcs pov, wwx was becoming a loose cannon. If he sided with someone perceived as dangerous and crazy, how would that look? What would that mean for the safety of his sect and remaining family?
Furthermore, jc was unaware of his lack of core and thought he was just parading around without a sword as a display of arrogance. Everything he was doing was reflecting badly on him and his sect. Not to mention, the jins were stirring the pot, implying that wwx lacked any respect for jc which on the surface would appear to be true.. And yet jc still had the patience to want to protect wwx and visit him regularly even after his defection.. (it's funny how you all seem to ignore that aspect of his character.. >.>)
Had he told him everything and properly communicated, they could have both come up with some sort of compromise together. Literally, the whole issue with their relationship was lack of communication. All of this could have been avoided if they had just talked and been honest with eachother. Come up with a better solution to prove to the cw that the Wens were not a threat. Jc himself acknowledges that a lot of the Wens that had been rescued were elderly and children.
(Personally, I believe the Wens would have been screwed eitherway and more lives would have been lost if jc helped wwx (lp massacre part two..). After all, the jins had their own agenda and protecting the wens went against that. It really was a difficult situation they were in and neither were in the wrong. But I do believe jc would have been more receptive to help in some way if wwx had helped to dispell those rumours and made it more clear to jc that he was in no way disrespecting him.. Bare in mind, jc DID try to to defend wwx in anyway he could numerous times before his defection, despite it being literally politcal suicide. The situation was a difficult one. It's hard to just narrow it down to being one or the other.
Furthermore.. I'd argue that him helping to stage wwx's defection whilst visiting him regularly, keeping him updated on the cw and seeing his sister was his own way of helping wwx? Allowing him to do what he must (with the people that massacred his sect, might I add..)? Maybe he could have done a lot more had he been more informed too? Idk. But that's just my opinion.)
So yes. Both realities can exist.

💙 The loudest silence
by barisan (@barisan-no)
T, 15k, Wangxian
Part of the MDZS Mini Remix for Tired Adults™
Summary: In almost two decades of peace and with a whole generation who has not known differently, it is hard for those who sit above such dangers to fear a banal death. In a lifetime of not knowing what it means to be truly and utterly alone in such a world, it is hard to understand it is often a sentence. Or, a remix of our beloved post-cql WWX whump Kay's comments: You know I'm so weak for post-CQL WWX whump and of course, barisan never fails to deliver when it comes to WWX whump. This story was such a treat with many revelations and the re-appearance of some, who were thought long lost. One of them Wen Qing! And she even gets to have a wife! Absolutely love that. Really loved how this story didn't offer a magical solution. The road of healing is a long one and just Lan Wangji appearing will not fix everything either. Still, a happy ending is guaranteed. Excerpt: It had been over a month since Wei-qianbei’s last letter. It had felt wrong not to join him on his travels, yet they had been too far from the location and Wen Yuan had just started to feel at ease with his identity. Hearing stories about his parents, his family and his clan from Ning-shushu, made his birth name finally feel right in his mind if not his tongue. He had not felt selfish for choosing not to go back then. Surely Wei-qianbei would understand, and wouldn’t be left alone anyways. Probably Jin Ling and the others would go, perhaps even Hanguang-Jun would make time for it. Yet now, as a group of rogue cultivators tell the tale of how they managed to lure the fearsome Yiling Laozu to his final death, he cannot stop himself from realising how foolish he had been.
pov alternating, post-the untamed, the untamed canon, wei wuxian whump, wen qing lives, lan sizhui is a wen, mental health issues, major character injury, angst with a happy ending, hopeful ending, healing, families of choice, rogue cultivator wei wuxian, wei wuxian is not oblivious, hurt wei wuxian

[ Hello followers, and or fans! I am back with a Part II/Follow-up to the piece I originally wrote for the Hawks Big Bang. This was inspired by this image created by pepepecoooooo which is so so cute. Please note this piece contains MAJOR manga spoilers. ]
Tumblr media
[ As a support specialist, you were used to receiving attention, and it wasn’t just because you were the child of Endeavor, a fool. Trying to adjust to your new life after the war was hard, but it was even harder knowing what happened to a certain winged hero man that you knew. It was clear the two of you had lost things you could never get back, yet this could be the key to finally moving forward hand in hand. ]
The tension in the air was beginning to make you sweat. ‘This is so awkward…’ you thought, mindlessly staring at the plastic container you were helping Keigo go through. It was filled with his hero memorabilia and merchandise.
‘Why did I agree to this again?’ The ache that coursed through your chest served as enough of an answer and your hands tightened around the edge of the container. The fingers of your newly created mechanical arm whirred in response to this.
You could only assume that it was still getting used to its functioning, and it served as a reminder of what you had lost during the war against All For One and the former members of the Paranormal Liberation Front. Ironically enough, your father had also lost his arm, and although you had offered to craft a new one for him, he refused.
You assumed he believed this was a way to atone for his past sins and thought he was foolish but tried to respect his decision, especially given the now delicate state of your family. Despite this, you knew that the heroes and hero students alike had lost something during the war as well.
The ache in your chest increased when you looked at Keigo who was crouched over another container across the room. Most would think that being in the former number two hero’s house would be a dream come true, but considering the events that led to this moment, it was more of a nightmare.
Despite now being a retired hero, he was currently dressed in his former hero attire which consisted of a black shirt with a repetitive golden pattern, a tan jacket with a high collar lined with white fur, and black gloves. Much like before the war, the only thing that was missing was the beautiful bright red feathers that made up his wings.
However, there was no chance of recovering them this time. Sure, the heroes won in the end, but Fierce Wings had been stolen by All For One, and upon the villain’s death, the stolen quirks died along with him. This, of course, is what prompted Keigo’s abrupt retirement.
Although there were many casualties, he considered himself one of the lucky ones because he could at least walk away from the war alive. Sure, a part of him was missing. But hell, he was never whole to begin with and part of him felt guilty for having made it out alive given that he took Jin Bubaigawara’s life.
At the same time, however, he assumed being alive was worth it if he had you. Although a part of you was missing as well, or a semi-part? Guess you were both equally messed up. He was slightly amazed that Endeavour had even allowed you to help him go through his things given what happened last time.
Of course, he didn’t give a damn if Endeavour knew he had feelings for you, especially now that he was retired. Being the person he was, however, he tried to laugh it off and say that now he had plenty of time to catch up on the things he wanted to do.
This included getting rid of or donating most of his possessions. However, you couldn’t help but notice that the merchandise he wanted to get rid of was related to his previous career as a hero. Still, you tried not to judge and knew that like before, this little task he requested your help with related to his desire to spend time with you.
This was evident because he knew you had recently relocated with your family and while you missed Musutafu, the rural environment you now found yourself in wasn’t so bad. Yeah, it would be ideal if you got to work constructing a new development studio.
However, when you tried making blueprints for it, you struggled. At first, you thought it was a fluke and that you were still in shock from the war. ‘All I need is some rest to recharge, then I'll make those blueprints.’ Yeah, that’s what you foolishly thought.
That a small break from your passion would fix everything. It was only later that you discovered that said passion you felt for creating support items, among other things, had all but disappeared. Your family tried to remain positive and told you that your creativity would return when the time was right.
You weren’t sure if you believed that, and this only added to your frustration. But as usual, you tried to keep yourself distant from them and well everyone until you could sort out your emotions. However, just as in the past, this self-made rule didn’t apply to Keigo.
Just as before, your troubles seemed to be staying with you even in his presence. “Hm?” He paused, feeling your eyes on him. Guess he still had some of his hawk senses, but that was hardly a reason to celebrate. He frowned and focused his attention on the box in front of him again.
The very same box, that yes, bore the weight of his memories as a hero. The rustling of aged papers and faint crackling of outdated newspaper clippings echoed through the room. But among these was something from his childhood that was associated with skyrocketing his dreams of becoming a hero.
When his fingers brushed over something soft and plush, he knitted his eyebrows and leaned over the box. Carefully moving a few more items out of the way, he notices the red and orange coloring, accompanied by a cool blue undertone.
As he pulled out the Endeavour plushie, he noticed it was a little worn, and had a few stitches here and there. Still, it carried with it a sense of happiness, and memories came flooding back to him accompanied by a bittersweet smile.
He tentatively squeezed it and looked over his shoulder at you. His eyes naturally drifted to your artificial appendage that, like your previous metal fingers, gleamed the faintest blue and had a sleek metallic surface. In addition, precisely articulated joints mimicked the motion of the human body.
The metal fingertips were equipped with sensors that allowed you to perform tasks that surpassed normal human capability. There was a subtle space along the sides of it, that allowed that soft luminescence to emanate from its core, this was the source of the gentle blue glow that made it stand out.
Underneath the surface of your arm was a complex network of wires and circuits that was nothing less of the sophistication only you were capable of crafting, or so he believed. He imagined that like your mechanical fingers, the arm worked in tune with your quirk which made it the life force of the technological masterpiece.
It served as a reminder to him that you never said no to a challenge, no matter how difficult, and that was a quality that set you apart from other support item specialists. It was also what made him interested in you in the first place.
Not many freshly graduated support specialists could make a name for themselves as fast as you did and you were already popular at Yuuei because of your outstanding grades, and equally outstanding inventions. So, he had heard of you even before meeting you face to face. If only he knew the arm was indeed not crafted by you.
The smile fell from his face, and his chest ached softly. Although he tried to convince himself it wasn’t his fault that you had lost your arm, he felt responsible. However, this didn’t change the fact that you were still the child of his favorite hero.
The same favorite hero whose likeness was modeled after the plushie he was currently holding. He glanced at it, taking note of the synthetic fibers that made up the flames that Endeavour used as a makeshift mask and beard, and the bright turquoise color of the plushie’s eyes.
“Hm…” he perched his lips and grasped his chin, tapping it with the tip of his gloved finger. His gaze once again shifted to you, and he noticed that you had taken a few items out of the box you were rummaging through. They lay on the floor in organized piles, and he chuckled softly.
It was just like you to organize what you saw and make sense of it. “Hey,” your head turned when you heard his voice and tried to push down the fact that it made your heart race. Yes, the relationship you had with Keigo was…strange if anything.
This was especially evident given the last time the two of you were alone you almost kissed. That’s also when you realized just how strong your feelings for him were, and although you wanted to follow said feelings, something was holding you back.
Regardless, Keigo had a history of pushing his luck with you and distracting you from your work whenever he damn well pleased. While you wanted to finish the task, he had given you, a sigh passed your lips. “What?” you replied, your voice flat as you placed a hand on your hip.
He smirked, happy to see that despite everything, you still had that fierce attitude. No doubt that was something you inherited from your father. “Check it out,” he said, approaching you. “He’s waving at you,” with a snicker, he proceeded to take the plushie’s arm and move it.
He had his hopes that his misguided sense of humor would make you smile. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Instead, you scowled at him and glared daggers at the plushie before grabbing it. Luckily, you used your flesh hand to do this, as opposed to your mechanical one which would have surely ripped the stuffed companion apart.
After you chucked it across the room, it bounced on the floor a few times before hitting the side of the wall where it lay askew. The smile on his face faded, leaving behind a frown as he stared at his precious childhood friend who was now laying face-first against the floor.
He then glanced back at you, taking note of your heavy panting and the whir of your mechanical arm that again, seemed to be straining to move. In this case, it struggled to make a fist, but he assumed this was ignored by you.
Still, he had faith you’d be able to tinker with it until it reached the flawless level of complexity and functioning that was usually associated with your inventions. The tension in the air was obvious, as was the awkwardness that lingered between the two of you.
It was no surprise that his mind once again drifted back to the kiss the two of you almost shared and the look on Endeavour’s face when he barged in to see you in his arms. He also recalled the way your father forcibly dragged you away from him. It all seemed so unfair.
Yeah, he had told you on that day that he wasn’t a good guy. But hell, he deserved love, right? He didn’t give a damn if he wanted it from the child of his favorite hero. That was part of the reason he insisted you help him with his much-needed task.
While things had just seemed to turn sour, he was determined to finish what he had started. “I don’t need to be greeted by a plushie of my Dad!” You snapped, pointing a mechanical finger at him. “Jeez,” you said, turning your back on him.
You knew that you might be taking your frustrations out on him, but for the moment, you were too stubborn to apologize. “D-don’t be weird, okay?” You muttered, making his frown deepen. ‘Hm…’ he narrowed his eyes, ‘weird, huh?’
If that wasn’t the greatest instance of the pot calling the kettle black, he didn’t know what was. But he had been dealing with you for too long, and he wouldn’t rest until he had destroyed every wall you tried to put up. Furthermore, since you were already at your weakest point, it was the perfect time.
Yeah, maybe that was a little…villainous to do. But hell, if his hero career taught him anything, it was that you needed to use whatever you could to your advantage. ‘Maybe Dad was right…’ you thought as you resumed looking through the box, taking a few items out of it to place in the piles you had created.
Of course, your father didn’t trust anyone who tried to get close to you, let alone pursue you with romantic interest. He had grown suspicious enough the last time you and Keigo were together, and it only heightened when Keigo requested your help after the war.
Part of you thought your father finally agreed because of your mother’s assurance that you would be alright, despite him having resentment toward Keigo. In his mind, he believed the once-winged hero was the one responsible for you having lost your arm.
This, at least in your opinion, was an illogical conclusion because Keigo was too injured to even move, let alone save your arm from getting severed at the time. You had tried your hardest to explain that after your family had stopped Touya’s reign of terror by working together, you searched for other heroes.
You were also the least injured one of your family thanks to your specialized combat suit. It was like that of a robotic suit that old superhero cartoons would depict, be it more advanced. However, it had received great damage from Touya’s flames and as a result, was weakened to the point of just barely functioning.
Despite this, your stubborn attitude made you determined to protect others. That’s unfortunately how you got caught up in the brigade of Himiko Toga’s doubles that had attempted to attack Keigo with a large knife. Without thinking, you jumped in front of him.
Of course, you didn’t anticipate just how much damage that knife would cause. It ended up shredding through the combat suit, and effectively through the flesh and bone of your arm, severing it completely. You certainly were a fool for doing what you did, but you also felt some pride knowing you prevented him from further injury.
Yeah…maybe you loved Keigo, whatever. If you were being honest, you were disappointed that your mechanical fingers got destroyed as well. But your original opinion still stood strong, countless individuals chose to have certain body parts or limbs replaced with robotic ones. Only this time, you felt different.
You couldn’t necessarily explain why, but maybe that’s because you were still processing everything that happened and dealing with more emotions than you wanted to. Jeez, there had to be a way to distract yourself from how you were feeling.
Your father only added fuel to the fire by acting protective and had initially refused and furthermore, forbade you from helping Keigo. Of course, he hadn’t explained why. But much like you, your father had a difficult time articulating his emotions.
You assumed it was because he didn’t want you to be romantically involved with anyone, maybe the fear of someone taking you away from him struck a nerve. The members of your family almost losing their lives during the war and Touya ‘dying’ for the second time likely added to this.
You could understand that no one wants to lose their child either in death or from someone else taking them away. But your mother managed to convince him to allow you to help Keigo, saying that she wanted her children to be able to be happy. Guess you could thank her for that, but your relationship with her was strained at best.
Still, you were beginning to wonder if you should have come here at all. “You know there, you don’t have to take your frustrations out on your father,” he said in a joking manner, crossing the room to pick up the Endeavour plushie before once again cradling it in his arms. “That’s not funny!” You snapped, pointing an artificial finger at him.
He seemed to recall the last time you had done that and like before, his body stiffened out of instinct. But instead of the memories of the flames that had stolen his wings away, the scene of when you jumped in front of him and the blood that splattered when your arm was cut off came to mind.
The blue hue of your finger reflected off the golden color of his eyes and you took a deep breath, letting out a sigh as you lowered your hand. Once again, it gave a loud whirring that made you smack it. “Shut up and work properly already!” You snapped, making Keigo raise his eyebrow.
While your mechanical arm was certainly a marvel, it wasn’t one of your designs. In the weeks following the war, and your attempts to make blueprints for a new Development Studio, you also tried to come up with blueprints for a new arm. Several. The only thing this confirmed was that your passion for invention and technology had now become a sizzling flame. Your frustration began here. It was like an author having writer’s block. There was potential for something beautiful to be created, and yet the mind remained blank, unable to convey the correct words for a heart-capturing story.
You were unable to do anything about your brain’s lack of creativity. Even when you had attempted to make your robotic limb, believing that baby steps would reignite your abilities, you found yourself struggling yet again.
This eventually led you to contact a promising Department of Support student named Mei Hatsume, who was the only one who challenged the legacy you had left behind at Yuuei. She was the one to thank for constructing your arm based on the blueprints of your once mechanical fingers.
Of course, this didn’t change the fact it was embarrassing to have someone craft something you should have easily been able to create. Although Mei had warned you that your new arm would struggle at first given that she had set limitations on it and would gradually increase them which would allow it to work more efficiently.
You knew it was important to get used to the strength of your mechanical appendage at first, and further knew that Mei was following safety precautions which was almost amusing given the stories you had heard about her inventions spontaneously combusting.
“Taking your frustrations out on inanimate objects now?” He questioned with a chuckle, but it died quickly when he noticed you were glaring at him. “That’s not funny either,” you said before walking over to the nearby wall and sighing as you slumped against it.
You frowned as you slid onto the floor and pulled your knees up to your chest. The frown on his face remained as he watched you, guess he should have expected this. Although you still looked like the same little firecracker he had always known.
“Mm…” he hummed and turned the Endeavour plushie in his hands. His eyes focused on it for a long moment as if he expected it to come to life and give him advice on how to deal with you. He took a breath as he lowered his hands and looked at you.
For the first time, it seemed that the illusion you were the child of his favorite hero was broken. Instead, he just saw you. Someone who needed comfort because they had so much frustration built up they were liable to burst at any moment.
At the same time, he also saw someone so intelligent when it came to crafting support items and other inventions yet didn’t stop to see their own success. You sacrificed everything for your passion, even if you didn’t receive as much as a ‘Thank you’ from your customers.
Someone like you didn’t deserve to be this…glum. More importantly, he saw the person who had saved him from the painful sting of a knife cutting into his flesh. Maybe he was seeing you as his new hero. The only difference was that he was no longer chasing a childhood dream.
He was pursuing the next stage in his life, the period when he’d settle down with the one, he had adored for quite some time. His eyes once again drifted to your artificial arm, and he walked toward you. “How does it feel to be without your arm?” He asked, his voice flat and an absent tone accompanied it.
Of course, having been trained under the Hero Public Safety Commission, he had, unfortunately, mastered the ability to numb his emotions. This didn’t last long around you and as he came to stand in front of you, he could see the anger brewing inside you, and the small hint of hatred dancing in your eyes.
He knew his question would make you angry, this was evident by your slanted eyebrows and scowl. You balled your hands into fists, and once again the sound of your artificial appendage permeated the air. Your lip twitched, and although you knew it was wrong, your anger and stubbornness got the best of you.
You leaned forward, and growled, “How does it feel to be without your wings!?” His facial expression dropped, and although most couldn’t tell. A look of sadness filled his eyes and an ache coursed through his chest. He knew that he had done good things during his career as a hero, it was something he was born for.
Ever since he saved all those people when he was a mere child, he had his hopes of becoming a hero. The rest followed when he found out about Endeavour, who unintentionally saved him, and the Hero Public Safety Commission was responsible for creating him into the person who stood before you today.
But it seemed that despite his best efforts, you were yet again trying to put up walls. He glanced toward the ceiling, rubbing the back of his neck. You raised your eyebrow, noticing his change in demeanor and guilt filled your heart, making your chest feel heavy.
You drew your bottom lip into your mouth, glancing away. ‘Okay…maybe I shouldn’t have said that…’ you thought, almost feeling sick for having come to that realization. Your eyes drifted to your mechanical arm. ‘We both lost something…’ you glanced at Keigo once more.
‘What he lost was more personal…’ and after the tragedy he went through before, you couldn’t fathom how he was feeling or how he could even smile. Images of his bandaged-up face and fresh scars came to your mind, making you tense up.
He raised his eyebrows, noticing this. He was keen to know what that meant thanks to his years of training as a spy, and frankly, he didn’t like the way it looked on you. So, he made the bold move to sit down next to you.
He stretched one leg out in front of him while the other was bent so he could rest his arm against it. Laying the Endeavour plushie on the floor next to him, he faintly smiled. If a little comfort is what you need, then he’d gladly give it to you. Although he could use some in return, he always put others before himself.
Maybe that’s part of the reason why he could shut off his emotions at any given time but as he looked at you, he was quickly reminded why that was impossible around you. He took a deep breath and focused his attention forward.
The awkward tension in the air continued to grow and sweat began to drip down the sides of his head before he let out the breath he was holding. “Guess it’d be crossing the line if I asked why you did that, eh?” He said, finally shattering the silence.
“Did what?” you replied, he noted that your voice was slightly strained indicating that you were still frustrated. He gave a half-smirk and leaned over, knocking on your mechanical arm. You stiffened as a result and quickly jerked your arm away, but its movement was slow and clunky.
A loud thud came when the elbow of it hit the wall. “Mm, again taking your frustration out on inanimate objects, huh?” Keigo said flatly, brushing his gloved fingers over the small indent you had now created in his wall. You grumbled and crossed your arms.
“Again, you’re asking stupid questions,” you hissed back, looking away from him with your anger boiling. Ironically, the temperature around you dropped which was unfortunately a side effect of your quirk. He wanted to reach out and touch your shoulder but decided against this given that your cold flame quirk was dangerous.
Although he didn’t believe you’d hurt him, at least not physically. He frowned and glanced up. “You know you could have lost your life trying to save mine, and despite being a devilishly handsome man, even with these scars…” he paused, and his eyes looked glossed over and void, almost like his soul had been ripped out.
“But damn if my life is worth more than yours,” he said, making your eyebrows rise and your lips part. He would have thought the look of surprise on your face was amusing if it wasn’t so sad. The weight on your chest seemed to double at his words, and you couldn’t help but wonder how the hell he could even think that.
Your eyes scanned his face, noting that his scar had gotten better, and you swallowed heavily before hesitantly lifting your hand. It hovered in the air for a moment, and you chewed on your bottom lip as second thoughts came to mind, but you pushed them away.
How could he think that your life was more valuable than his? His heart beat wildly when he felt the subtle cool touch of your hand against his cheek. Ironically, a heated warmth rushed through his body like the connection between two souls finally forming.
His eyes widened, unlike before your flesh and blood hand felt so at home, and he couldn’t resist placing his hand over yours. Your eyes locked, and when your thumb grazed over his scar, he hitched his breath. Silence lingered between the two of you and the tension in the air shifted.
Uncertainty and anticipation replaced the awkwardness in the air, making you lean forward. Keigo lowered his eyebrows, and his gaze lingered on your lips. He too, leaned forward expecting you to finish what the two of you started but-“You’re an idiot,” you said, removing your hand from his cheek. His eyes widened before he glanced away.
You sighed, and once again brought your legs up to your chest and wrapped your arms around them. “The world needs you,” your gaze turned to the ceiling, then drifted to the boxes that still needed to be emptied. You couldn’t admit that you needed him too.
A lump formed in his throat, and he lowered his head, sighing. “Heh, that’s the funny thing about the world,” he replied after a few minutes of silence. “The world thinks it needs heroes to save the day…” you knit your eyebrows.
“But it’s a bit different when someone is your world,” you hated the way your stomach filled with butterflies at his words. You clenched your jaw, pressing your teeth together. Once again, your mechanical arm struggled to move, and your fingers to close, causing a subtle creaking to echo through the room.
“You’ve protected even ungrateful people, you’re the number two her- ” you hissed when he grasped your chin. “Yeah,” he said, locking eyes with you. “I’m also the guy that wanted to sit on his ass and make the world an easier place for heroes,” he explained bluntly.
“And now that I’m rendered useless to the world I used to protect, I’m starting to see things a little differently.” A small ting of pain enveloped your heart when he described himself as useless. “Namely that little support specialists like you are the brains behind the operation,” a growl rumbled in your throat.
He wasn’t wrong, without support specialists the world would be in chaos, and the heroes without the proper means to fight. “That little stunt you pulled could have caused the world to lose someone that is actually needed,” he said, his eyebrows slanting, and his lips slightly pulled back in a snarl.
It was rare to see him angry, at least outside of his previous hero work and to know that anger was directed at you was a little off-putting. You looked at him with a dropped jaw, frozen for a minute before wrapping your metal fingers around his wrist.
In response, he tightened his grip on your chin almost as if silently conveying you weren’t going to make him let go. “You give hope to people who need it, and those who can’t control their quirk,” he said firmly. “You gave me hope when I needed it,” he added, hoping you realized he was referring to the feathers you created for him.
Another wave of sadness crashed over you; damn you hated feeling this much. “Why does that matter when you don’t have a quirk anymore?!” You knew you were rubbing salt into the wound but couldn’t help yourself.
A spark of blue fire erupted from the corners of your eyes, and the atmosphere around the two of you dropped again. However, just as with your father, he remained unintimidated. “E-even if I died…” you hesitated to speak and latched onto your bottom lip to prevent it from quivering.
Honestly, you would have happily died if that meant Keigo could get his quirk back. Moreover, you’d give up your quirk for his if you could. It didn’t really matter considering that since you were little, you knew your quirk wasn’t the ideal one your father was looking for.
Although you had since learned to cope with that, it didn’t make it any less true that your quirk wasn’t practical for anything except your previous mechanical fingers. Eventually, if you ever got the motivation to craft support items again, maybe you could improve your artificial arm so it could work in tune with your quirk again.
He sensed your frustration and watched his breath evaporate as he sighed. He released your chin before fisting his hand into his hair, contemplating his next words. It seemed you wouldn’t listen to reason, so he said something he knew would catch your attention.
“Endeavour needs you.” Even though it hurt him to say that because he also needed you. Your mouth grew dry, and his words made your chest ache again, although you knew he was right. As much as you hated to admit it, your life as a support specialist was the very thing that caused you to grow distant from your family.
After everything your family has been through together, everyone was trying their hardest to get along and you knew you needed to do your part by spending time with your parents and siblings. So maybe in that sense, it was selfish that you had risked your life to protect Keigo. Yet you remained with no regrets.
Why was this such a big deal to him in the first place? The two of you were still here, you had both lost something, and yet gained something at the same time. Silence filled the space between the two of you, except for the soft humming of your mechanical arm.
Why did he have to mention that your father needed you? “Mm…” you rested your chin on top of your knees, a blank expression in your eye. Your mind replayed the look on your father’s face when he and Best Jeanist stumbled into your Development Studio and the almost threatening conversation he had with you in the car afterward.
‘So, it was Hawks who initiated it then.’ Your bottom lip quivered. ‘I’ll have to have a chat with him later.’ Your arms tightened around your legs, something that caught Keigo’s attention. He then noticed the distant look in your eyes.
‘What could they be thinking about?’ He wondered before you hitched your breath. “Be honest…” you said, feeling your stomach twist with the soft flutter of butterfly wings. ‘And don’t make me regret asking this, okay?’ you thought before continuing.
“If…if my father hadn’t interrupted us on…that day,” you emphasized, knowing he knew exactly what you were referring to, “would we have…kissed?” Your heart thumped heavily in your chest, and although you hated it, the faintest warmth spread through your cheeks. You expected him to give a smart answer, and he did.
Smirking, he locked eyes with you and said, “Depends.” You knit your eyebrows, and he chuckled. You almost looked cute when you were confused. “Would you still kiss an attractive but devastated former hero who lost his quirk in a freak accident with one of the most dangerous villains alive?” he asked, making you glance away.
Well, that was certainly a question. You frowned, and silence lingered in the air again. Even after learning that he killed Jin Bubaigawara, you still liked him even if you acted like you didn’t. After that day in your Development Studio, you realized how much your feelings for him had grown.
This injured former hero, who had tried to do good all his life only to meet failure in the end, was also someone you loved. You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath. “I…” Your bottom lip trembled, causing you to sink your teeth into it briefly before you sighed.
“I think…I would,” you admitted in a whisper before looking at him. He met your gaze, a small smile playing on his lips. No words were exchanged as the two of you closed the distance. The world around you faded away the moment your lips met, and the gentle warmth of his kiss sent a wave of bliss through your body.
The kiss was soft, but filled with passion that spoke the volumes of affection you couldn’t convey through mere words. All your worries and fears seemed to get lost in this moment. Another growl passed his lips as he paced back and forth, his mind dancing with thoughts of you and Keigo.
He regretted allowing you to travel back to the city to help the former hero. Then again, given his condition and state of mind, he didn’t have the energy he previously had. He felt tired, exhausted even. Yet, there remained a burning flame that desired to protect you and had him conflicted.
Rei frowned as she watched him, a sad and anxious atmosphere lingering. She knew it would take a while for everything to feel normal again and that she had been absent for most of your life. To think that one of her children became a successful support specialist made her heart swell with pride.
Although you were having trouble finding your passion again, she had confidence that you would be inventing wonderful things again soon. That was a part of her reasoning with Enji to allow you to help Keigo despite his disapproval. “They’ll be okay,” she said, her voice soft but still holding a tinge of annoyance to it.
Enji halted, and another growl passed his lips. He turned, glaring at her. However, she remained standing tall and narrowed her eyes. Much like him, her skin was healing and more than likely would scar due to being in the heart of Touya’s flames. He noticed that strong and determined look in her eyes, and his shoulders slumped.
After everything he had put her through and the regret he had to live with, he was a changed man. He didn’t want to lose any more members of his family, and despite knowing it would take a long time to regain everyone’s trust, he was willing to put in the work.
That was the reason why he backed down and instead sighed. Pressing his hand to his forehead, he grimaced. “I still can’t accept that they have feelings for-” Rei nodded, understanding where he was coming from. It was natural to be defensive and worried when your children were involved romantically with someone.
Still, she knew neither of them could interfere. “Let him prove himself first,” she said, her voice holding a calm yet motherly tone. “If Y/n trusts him, then I’m certain he knows better than to break their heart,” once again she narrowed her eyes on Enji.
A moment of silence lingered, and although a sad expression enveloped his features, he turned to stare out the window. “I suppose that’s true…” he said, folding his hand behind his back. He then glanced at his opposite arm, which had been severed by All For One.
Guilt swelled in his heart as he thought about your artificial fingers and newly crafted mechanical arm. He knew he should have been there for you. No child of his deserved to get injured so gravely. Yet, he also knew it was too late to change anything.
His throat tightened, forcing him to swallow hard as he raised his head and stared out the window again. His hand then curled into a fist. ‘Yes...’ he thought, ‘I will give him a chance to prove himself.’ If Keigo did end up hurting you, he would ensure the former hero had wished he had died during the war.
Soft pants filled the air, but neither of you dared to break eye contact. That is until Keigo chuckled, feeling higher than his previous quirk could get him. “Hm?” You raised your eyebrow, wondering for a moment what he was laughing at.
Seconds later, you jolted when he wrapped his arms around you, embracing you in a warm hug. You trembled at the unusual contact, and in response, he tightened his arms around you. There was no way he’d let you push him away now.
Your heart was racing, this was all new to you. Yet, it felt welcome, like it was meant to be. You slowly wrapped your fingers around one of his arms, hoping the cool metal touch of your artificial fingers wouldn’t bother him too much.
You sighed in contentment, finding his embrace to be comforting, and leaned closer to rest your head on his shoulder and close your eyes. Eventually, you knew you’d have to leave, that you’d have to return to your family and although Keigo had stated that your father needed you, it was easy to read between the lines.
Your family would be fine without you for the time being, because even if they needed you...there was someone else that you needed more. That was the same man that embraced you now, and the one you had unexpectedly fallen in love with.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 35 part one
(Masterpost) (Pinboard)
Tumblr media
Warning! Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Perfect Date, part one: Moon Gazing
While Wei Wuxian has been out unpacking emotional baggage with his family, Lan Wangji has been busy planning the perfect date. He's found the tallest bridge in town and placed himself there where his crush is most likely to see him in profile.
When Wei Wuxian arrives, Lan Wangji is gazing at the moon to pass the time. I wonder what phase the moon is in? Crescent, maybe? Waning?
Tumblr media
Ha ha ha ha, this is television, the moon is full, of course.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is downtrodden and bummed out until he sees Lan Wangji, at which his whole demeanor brightens and softens, and he cat-blinks up at him.
Tumblr media
Then he reflects for a moment on the reversal in his expectations. He's not one to dwell on gains and losses, but in this moment he sees that he's both lost Jiang Cheng and gained Lan Wangji.  Wangxian, flute solo edition, plays on the soundtrack while he somewhat dejectedly goes to meet up with Lan Wangji.
Get Your Hair Did
Lan Wangji didn’t do his hair specially for this date, because his hair is always so extra it would be too obvious if he tried to make it more extra. But he sure does look beautiful.
Tumblr media
The Lans have a rule about not wearing excessive bling. It’s good to know that wearing two pieces of silver on your headband (one of them is not visible here, it’s on the part that wraps around his ponytail) and four more on top of your head is not excessive.
(More after the cut!)
One of the things I love about Lan Wangji is that he values beauty, including his own beauty. He's an ideal gentleman of his time; one who appreciates his natural gifts and is responsibly curating them for the enjoyment of those around him. And while he’s been through an ocean of grief and trauma, and has a body covered in scars to show for it, he hasn’t let that change the way he adorns or carries himself.
It’s Only A Flesh Wound
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian slowly hobbles up the stairs and then tries to bullshit Lan Wangji about the state of his body at this moment, which is:
limping because of being beaten with magic lightning whip
massive gnarly curse on leg
additional curse on arm which Lan Wangji doesn't even know about yet
probably didn't eat anything today either
Lan Wangji wants to take care of Wei Wuxian. Lan Wangji has his work cut out for him.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian tries super hard to downplay the entire situation but Lan Wangji pretty much reads his mind, immediately yanking his robe up to look at his leg.
Tumblr media
(Knee replacement surgery photoshoppery by yours truly)
When he sees the gnarly curse, he is able to infer that that Wei Wuxian transferred the curse from Jin Ling, and that he therefore met Jiang Cheng, and that he therefore got his ass beat.
These two and their nonverbal communication. Wei Wuxian says ten times as much as Lan Wangji, but so much of it is deliberately misleading that his words don’t convey any more real information than Lan Wangji’s silences. They both need to rely on body language and inference in order to understand each other.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji decides that he’ll carry Wei Wuxian, and when WWX says no, they go back and forth about that time during the turtle hunt, when Wei Wuxian offered (unsuccessfully) to carry Lan Wangji. Wei Wuxian claims not to remember, and Lan Wangji has the nerve to get his feelings hurt, microfrowning as if Wei Wuxian forgot some special or tender moment.
Tumblr media
Of course, to Lan Wangji it was a special, tender moment; Wei Wuxian was thoughtful and risked getting in trouble to try to help him. But to Wei Wuxian it would just be another of the many, many, many times he tried to get close to Lan Wangji and Lan Wangji told him to fuck off.
Tumblr media
Perfect Date, part 2: Barebacking Piggybacking
Lan Wangji, displaying the same respect for Wei Wuxian’s boundaries that Wei Wuxian chronically displays for his, ignores his protests and picks him up to carry him back to the inn. He’s working his way down the romance-tropes checklist tonight and he’ll be damned if he misses any ticky boxes.
Tumblr media
The department of questionable practical effects has cooked up some excellent fake legs for this occasion. I mean...its possible they’re real? But come on. Look at them.
Tumblr media
In the shot where Wang Yibo is actually carrying Xiao Zhan while they both obviously laugh, XZ's legs are tucked back, with the sole of his shoe showing.
Tumblr media
And when they walk down the stairs in the closer shots, it really doesn't look like XZ is putting his weight on WYB. Maybe they are both walking down the stairs in tandem? Anyway, Wang Yibo has an exceptional bod, with perfect control of every muscle on his frame, but he is a slender, wiry guy who is overall smaller than the dude he is carrying. So I don't begrudge them any fakery they needed for this shot. I just laugh at Wei Wuxian's gently swaying feet whenever I see them.
Tumblr media
While Lan Wangji carries Wei Wuxian, they banter a bit about how Lan Wangji was able to recognize him. But that’s mainly a distraction from what’s really going on in this scene, which is a classic hurt/comfort encounter. The last time we saw WWX get a piggyback ride from someone, it was Jiang Yanli carrying him after he fell out of a tree. Wei Wuxian is always taking care of everyone, but his sister is the person who consistently took care of him, and now Lan Wangji is stepping into that role.
He tried to do it in Wei Wuxian's previous life, without much luck, but now he's just blowing past Wei Wuxian's objections and doing what he feels needs doing.
Perfect Date, part 3: Drinks with a Friend
Tumblr media
When you’re shy or just not that talkative, it’s not a bad idea to meet up with friends on your date, so that someone can help get the conversation going. Lan Wangji has recruited old friend Nie Huaisang to break the ice and put Wei Wuxian in a cheery mood.
The camera cuts away while Wei Wuxian ties the ribbon of his mask, just like it cuts away whenever a cultivator starts to re-sheathe a sword.
Tumblr media
And now we, and Wei Wuxian, learn that grown-up Lan Wangji is not only comfortable touching and carrying Wei Wuxian, he's apparently into manhandling him quite a bit, unnecessarily doing a full-body, both-hands snuggle just to walk him three steps over a threshold.
Nobody is complaining about this, mind you.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji has a hunch that Wei Wuxian likes his mean side, so he is mean to Nie Huaisang in front of him, hoping that it gives Wei Wuxian ideas.
Wei Wuxian follows up by giving NHS a warning that comes directly from his own experience: “if you don’t explain what’s going on today, be careful that once it gets out, all the cultivator families will gather to interrogate and subjugate [and]...when you want to talk, no-one will be willing to listen; no-one will be willing to believe you.”
Tumblr media
Nie Huaisang gets revenge for their bullying by dumping nearly 10 solid minutes of exposition on them. We are kinda done with the “show, don’t tell” phase of the story; there’s a lot of information to impart. I’ll explain.
No, is too much, I sum up.
The crypt in the forest is a Nie Clan ancestral tomb, that occasionally eats people because it’s got traps all around it.
The crypt doesn’t hold bodies, but sabers.
The Nie Clan’s sabers are just absolutely loaded with resentful energy, which is why Nie Clan leaders tend to die of qi deviation.
Tumblr media
The crypt's sabers are angry, and they like to feed on monsters and beasts, so the traps are designed to lure in those sort of creatures.
The humans who get eaten are generally either thieves, or cultivators too dumb to realize they’re trespassing on Nie property, which makes it fair to eat them.
How was Nie Huaisang to know that Jin Ling, a cultivator who actually matters to people, was that dumb?
This is all a big secret because using resentful energy, even without killing humans to get it, is forbidden. And the entire Nie Clan has been using it for ages.
Including, incidentally, during that one time when they came to Nightless City to point their (resentful) sabers at Wei Wuxian and punish him for using resentful energy.  That time that he basically described to Nie Huaisang in his warning at the beginning of the conversation.
Fortunately for Wei Wuxian’s mood while hearing all of this, Lan Wangji has already ordered wine for their date, and he has it ready for Wei Wuxian the moment it’s needed.
Tumblr media
Look at that swagger.
Also fortunately, Nie Huaisang is a genuine friend to Wei Wuxian (even more than WWX realizes currently, of course), and there is a lot of goodwill still remaining from their youth together. Earlier in the conversation Wei Wuxian yoinked NHS’s fan off of him, and before he gives it back he looks at it carefully and has a flashback to a new-to-us scene of their time in cloud recesses, where NHS showed him how great the fan is, while WWX rated it “meh.”
Tumblr media
This time he repeats, verbatim, Nie Huaisang’s words of praise about the fan. Wei Wuxian’s memory for poetry and poetic speech is perfect, despite the swiss cheese that is his functional memory.
It’s a little jarring, and a lot heartbreaking, to see young Wei Wuxian, with his fresh, pure style (no black robes, no bracers, a floral silver twist in his hair), with his boundless enthusiasm and curiosity, and with his sword. The fact that we haven’t seen this scene before makes it hit that much harder.
I’m not sure if Wei Wuxian is deliberately giving Nie Huaisang a hint about his identity, or if he’s just praising his fan as a way of showing that he appreciates his friend. Nie Huaisang doesn’t show any sign of recognition, though, just grabs his fan and goes.
Perfect Date, part 4: Slip Into Something More Comfortable
Lan Wangji jumps into the next part of the date with gusto, settling at Wei Wuxian’s feet and attempting to take his clothes off. Wei Wuxian gets all shy, saying he can do it himself.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji signals his new acceptance of demonic cultivation by making an unabashed thirst face when he sees Wei Wuxian’s extremely-cursed bare leg.
Tumblr media
The moment is interrupted by the cursed sword in the Qiankun bag, jumping around on a fishing wire like a fucking cat toy.
Tumblr media
Perfect Date, part 5: Gift Giving
At this point we, and Wei Wuxian, discover that Lan Wangji has stealthily stolen his flute and has fixed it so it sounds good. Also it has some nice carvings on it now, which presumably came from Lan Wangji, although maybe they were there already from Wei Wuxian waving Jingyi’s sword around when he initially cut the flute. That’s how the holes got put in it, after all. The entire genesis of this flute is sketchy.
While the “somebody loves me” music plays on the soundtrack -- a tune we hear a lot when Jiang Yanli is on screen -- Lan Wangji finishes fixing up the flute while Wei Wuxian watches him, with dawning warmth and happiness.
Tumblr media
This is the first of two times that a person who previously condemned Wei Wuxian’s method of cultivation, gives him a flute. Both times, I think, it’s the person’s way of giving their blessing to his cultivation method.
Tumblr media
The fact that Lan Wangji initially tells Wei Wuxian to play Rest solo is another huge gesture of respect. Rest is a Lan Clan jam, but Lan Wangji lets Wei Wuxian take lead, only joining in when the cat toy Qiankun of Sword Cursedness doesn’t cooperate.
Perfect Date, part 6: a Duet
When Lan Wangji does join in, it's the best part of their date night, for them and for us. The camera operator treats us to several gratuitous closeups of beautiful hands and lips while they play.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are delighted to be playing together, with a whole lot of eye fucking  gazing, and Lan Wangji openly smiling like the lovestruck dork that he is.
Tumblr media
This duet is a quiet evolution of their battle-couple dynamic; they're perfectly in sync with each other, subduing a restless spirit like regular cultivators on a night hunt. The first time they played Rest together, it was after an argument, on opposite sides of a killing field. Now they're playing and working in perfect harmony, in a considerably more intimate setting.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji feels like this date is going really really well.

Hawks has the potential to be the greatest kidnapper of all time and he pulled 76 people out of a building while manipulating each feather individually.
There's an anime scene where he dodges bullets and out speeds men with guns. He's faster than Endeavor, Deku, and Bakugo. He's explicitly faster than people with super speed quirks.
This manga loves for people to forget their capabilities for dramatic effect. The story nerfs or buffs people according to whatever the narrative needs at the moment.
For example, Compress was able to marble HIMSELF in the forest camp arc. Later, we see him tear his own body apart to escape his bindings and this ability is nowhere to be found.
Hawks killing Twice was one of the most ridiculous scenes in the manga because he didn't even have to talk to him. He could have kicked this guy's head in and knocked him out before he could react, and been out of there.
We saw him do this to a flasher! It takes Hawks zero effort to knock humans out. He doesn't even have to look at them.
imgur.com/a/9vNxGAn
Twice doesn't have anything that gives him extra durability and he'd go down like anyone else would. Literally the exact same sneak attack Hawks did to him in canon could have been designed to knock him out rather than cut up his muscles so Hawks could insult him, taunt him, and then give the most unconvincing recruitment speech ever.
So the guy intentionally dragged this out for an absurd song and dance to try to half assedly convince him? Why?
Anything he needed to say to Jin could have been done in a cell when Twice woke up again.
Assuming Hawks took Jin down cleanly and abducted him, he may have even been able to come back to try and take out another League member.
Like Dabi. Hawks could do some real damage if he got the drop on him. Or forget Dabi. He could have went after Himiko or Compress and left Dabi to someone who isn't weak against him.
That's the frustrating part of discourse about this.
Everyone just takes the story at face value and ignores what we've seen people do before.
This plan was stupid. Hawks is stupid. The entire situation was contrived. None of it should have happened based on who we know Hawks to be and what he's capable of, but because the author wanted to create a situation in which Hawks killed Twice, it happens this way.
It reminds me of the Zack Snyder Superman movie Man Of Steel where the author wrote Superman into a corner specifically so that he'd need to kill a guy who was about to laser eye beam a family.
So Superman snaps his neck.
He later asked "What else could he have done?"
Well, he could have gouged out his eyes, or broken the lower part of his spine, or repeatedly slammed the guy's head into the ground. He could have choked him until he lost consciousness, or dragged him under water and held him under the surface until he passed out.
All of these are a lot less lethal than snapping a guy's neck and show the character attempting to keep to his no kill policy.
We go from something 100% fatal to something that has the potential to be fatal but could not be. While still allowing him to achieve his objective.
It wraps around to Hawks again. If he was really so worried about Twice's potential danger, why wasn't his first action to chop off the guy's hands?
Overhaul got his arms ripped off and he couldn't use his power. It's known that Twice's power was in is hands.
Maiming someone is bad, but it's not as bad as murder.
This whole thing had the most limp dicked ending ever. The guy murders someone on live TV and no one gives a shit. His wings don't get burned off despite Tokoyami exclaiming that, once again showing that Dabi's not worth shit when it comes to actually killing or harming named characters. And then his character becomes about being Endeavor's hype man. He, a kid who lived with an abusive father, also does not care about his idol being an abuser.
I'm not asking for a conga line of everyone shaming these guys, but at least we could get a scene of them wanting to sit with other hero characters at the cafeteria and then everyone standing up and sitting down at a different table.
Maybe Burnin' tells Endeavor that she and the rest of the sidekicks are quitting after the war is over, because she doesn't even know who her boss is anymore.
This is what you'd see in an episode of Law and Order. Why have events happen if they mean nothing and don't lead to anything?
What's Tokoyami think about this? We don't see it. He still loves Hawks. Would Tokoyami kill a person? The story doesn't care much about Tokoyami, but it would be nice if he and Hawks discussed this.
If he doesn't think Hawks did anything wrong, would have have done the same thing in his shoes?
I feel sorry for anyone who liked Hawks. It must be painful to watch how they massacred your boy.
You covered almost everything i have issues with when it comes to hawks vs twice and the lack of relevant consequences after the first war arc.
All the people arguing that hawks had to kill twice because they can't fathom their fav actually doing something morally reprehensible is already bad enough but it becomes so much worse when, as you said, in one of his first scenes in the manga Hawks knocks a guy unconscious with his wings without even looking at him.
I read the war arc chapters as they came out weekly and when the chapter where hawks killed twice dropped i was obviously devastated and very sad for twice, but i was also so excited for what this would mean for hawks' character in the future cause at the time everyone foolishly believed horikoshi actually had something interesting to say with his character. It's obvious now he didn't.
I said it before but Hawks' story perfectly mirrors mha's story as a whole: it started out posing very interesting questions about the morality of hero society and its insidious inner workings which were covered up by a shining facade of flawlessness, but it ended up abandoning all those questions in favor of a more simplistic, easy and frankly underwhelming conclusion.
I'll never get tired of saying Hawks is a wasted character and most of his fans only like a fanon version of him they've read on ao3 cause they can't stomach the fact that he was robbed of his arc and given a horrible conclusion as endeavors bootlicker.
