Dr Jekyll imo is not a good man capable of evil (like so many introductions of the story tend to suggest), rather, a bad man capable of gentility and kindness.

He can experience love, kindness, human connection. He wants to be loved, liked, and definitely respected. I think it’s why he sort of breaks character when it comes to Lanyon, because he registers it as disrespectful to his studies, and doesn’t handle it well. Ultimately with Lanyon, proving he’s right (and getting home safely lol) outweighs their friendship…

Also sorry if this looks like incomprehensible babble, I struggle to get my words across and I’m sure I missed a few points! But it lowk says it in the book

what pisses me off the most about the jekyll and hyde musical is that robert louis stevenson explicitly said to NOT make the inner conflict about sex but meanwhile frank wildhorn was like "lol bozo" and made it about jekyll/hyde choosing between a virgin and a whore like HUH.

when jekyll talks about feeling 'younger' when he transforms into hyde, i interpret it more as like hyde being similar to jekyll when he was younger??? Hear Me Out.

Since most people are more impulsive and reckless when theyre younger, i think of jekyll being reminded of that feeling when he transforms into hyde. it not only plays into hyde looking younger, since hes the desires and impulses jekyll gave into more when he was younger, but also the idea of jekyll being an even worse person when he was younger. and all tje fucked up shit he did in university.

I convinced my brother that as kids we once went to see Dr. Jekyll for a health checkup, and that his assistant Mr. Hyde came into the room and started beating Jekyll up, hit my brother and stormed out, and that the reason he doesn't remember it well is because he was so traumatised from it and I shit you not he goes "oh... oh yeah, I remember now" He didn't know about JnH until my mum made me apologise for lying to him

Jekyll being like “you hid it well, if it helps. I don’t think they noticed” SO CUTE!!!!!

Like it’s sad but cute because they’re bonding over their sadness.

There are so many similarities in their stories with how sort of angry they are at the world for hating them and their science. And on the outside it feels like they handled it differently but THEY DIDNT.

Frankenstein put herself into exile and excepted that no one would accept her science.

And In her eyes and the eyes of any outsider, Jekyll did the opposite. He DIDNT accept it and went to the public and tried to show them how amazing science can be.

And he did do that but all the whole still being scared of going to far.

The entire time he is hiding his mad science and is so scared of people finding about Hyde and hating him for it.

He puts himself in sort of a mental exhale in a way with how he has to hide such important aspect about himself.

Anyway long rant and it might not even make sense cause I couldn’t figure out how to word it but the point is I really likes this page 😌

I actually love writing fun little interactions between pre canon TGS Jekyll and Hyde bc like!!! They're getting along!! They're actually not spending each moment trying to destroy the other!! They're just both enjoying the debauchery and mischief Hyde gets up to!!They're engaging in playful banter!! They look out for and listen to each other (to a certain degree)!!! More people should write them just having a Jolly time together, it's great :3
