Disney Dreamland - Part 6: Discoveryland
Here it is, the final part! This area follows in the footsteps of Discoveryland in Paris, allowing more creative freedom than the traditional Tomorrowland. The land would be divided into two major “time periods”, one based on Victorian era / Belle Époque steampunk, and the other based on a high-tech modern day digital era that would evolve from said steampunk era.  There would be a decent amount of greenery in the land, none of those lifeless metal tree sculptures. Trees could be in their natural form in the steampunk half, while in the modern day half they could be trimmed into neat geometric shapes.
Tumblr media
Timeless Square
This area serves as the entry point from the hub. It is in-between the two major time periods of the land, bridging them. Would feature a detailed astronomical clock tower landmark.
“Discoveryland Thru the Years”: Successor to Carousel of Progress / Progressland, one of the four New York World’s Fair attractions. Tells the land’s “history” progression from the turn of the 20th century to the modern day, and ends with an optimistic hope for the future. I didn’t call it a carousel to avoid confusion with the other actual carousels I put in the park, but it is still a rotating theater.
Discoveryland PeopleMover: Successor to Ford Magic Skyway, one of the four New York World’s Fair attractions. A relaxing classic ride that weaves all throughout Discoveryland, including through various attraction buildings. The only challenge would be creating a vehicle that matches the aesthetics of both time periods of the land.
Tumblr media
Discovery Academy
The steampunk-inspired half of the land. While the theming uses elements of British Victorian steampunk, the architecture would mostly be modeled after Art Nouveau / Belle Époque Paris. I want the vibe of the area to be similar to a college campus or museum, but a really fancy inviting one, not a cold imposing one. In the center of the building is the Automaton Courtyard, a garden courtyard to rest and relax, but also part-walkthrough attraction. Would feature lots of fancy automatons and 3D zoetropes that guests can activate. Includes:
Butai Karakuri theater: Performances by Japanese automatons.
Steampunk Carousel: In the center of the garden. Animals could be artistic sculptures made of metal and gears.
Gift shop that sells mini wind-up automaton toys, and features coin-activated booths for drawing automata that produce souvenir pictures.
This area also includes:
Escher Exhibit & Mathmagic Land: Walkthrough attraction inspired by the artwork of M. C. Escher, particularly the multi-dimensional maze of “Relativity”. Guests can also view optical illusion sculptures such as the Penrose triangle and the Impossible trident.  Alternatively, I wouldn’t mind an attraction based on “Donald in Mathmagic Land” either. Giant numbers and “square root” trees would dominate the landscape. Interactive geometric shapes and puzzles.
Astronomical Orbiter: This indoor version features a planetarium ceiling that projects the stars and colorful galaxies so guests can actually feel like they’re flying through space. Diverting for both riders and guests still waiting in the queue. Inspired by the Chamber of Planets in Fortress Explorations from Tokyo DisneySea.
The Time Machine: Dark ride inspired by EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth. Travel through various time periods from the age of dinosaurs to the start of the Victorian era (so as not to conflict with the fictional history of the land).
Cafeteria: British, French, and Indian cuisine. Buffet.
“Paris Métro” station: As mentioned previously, this is probably not feasible idea, but I think it’s very neat. Provides underground transport between Discoveryland and Mysteryland (the Mysteryland is themed to the London Underground). The tunnels could contain zoetropes for guests to view during the ride, which tease the theme of the destination land.
Tumblr media
Explorer’s Landing
Technically part of the Academy, but features attractions that are “off campus”. Inspired by the original concept of Discovery Mountain for Paris. Features a lagoon for the submarines, and a mountain range for the other rides to blend into; would somewhat resemble the Mysterious Island from Tokyo DisneySea.
Soaring Skies / Weather Kites: Airships are a core part of steampunk, but I wasn’t sure where to put such a ride in my park that didn’t disrupt sightlines. I eventually settled on a version of Soaring. I love Tokyo’s iteration, but sadly, my version of the ride does without the fantasy aspects and GORGEOUS fantasy artwork, but the queue will still feature neat “history of flight” and weather exhibits. Ride vehicles would of course fit the steampunk aesthetic. Most important of all, I want the ride movie to focus on skyscapes and natural landscapes, not famous landmarks (I personally don’t mind the landmarks version, I think it was balanced out nicely with some nice landscapes, but now all the ride movies are the same which is boring). I want winding rivers through forest valleys, fluffy white clouds over mountain peaks with machines blowing clouds on the guests, golden sunsets over the sea, lightning storms with thunder and actual wind blowing and rain spraying the guests, and a starry night sky with a brilliant rainbow Aurora Borealis over a snowy tundra. The building exterior and queue could resemble a giant air zeppelin in an air hangar, similar to the Hyperion in Paris, based on the unbuilt Discovery Bay concept. In hindsight, this area probably has too many rides, so this attraction could also be moved to the Wild Western Frontier area in Adventureland, and be rethemed to environments of the American West, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific Northwest.
Journey to the Center of the Earth: I absolutely love Tokyo DisneySea’s version. It's one of the best rides out of Imagineering, but in my park, this would follow the original drop tower concept for Paris.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea / Expedition Atlantis: Suspension ride like the one in Tokyo DisneySea, with water filled windows that bubble to create the illusion of being underwater. Could either be another take on Jules Verne’s novel, or based on the Atlantis movie. Either one works.
The Nautilus underwater restaurant: Seafood dishes. Table service.
Lunar Mountain: Based on Paris’s original De la Terre à la Lune incarnation of Space Mountain. I love the idea of a giant cannon firing guests into space, and I especially love the cannon’s design with the classical illustrations of the sun and the moon on it. I also prefer the look of Paris’s more secure seats. I’ve only ridden Tokyo and Orlando’s versions, and as fun as they are, I always get an irrational gut feeling I’m going to be decapitated during the ride.
Journey to Treasure Planet / Journey to Mars: Omnimover dark ride. To sell the idea of blasting off into space, guests would ride in a “rocket elevator” prior to boarding, similar to the entry performance for the Space 220 Restaurant in EPCOT. Treasure Planet is another movie that deserves more recognition, but due to it taking place in another universe with its own separate world-building, I am also okay with this ride having an original story instead. Perhaps a trip to Mars with a secret civilization living under the planet’s surface. For reference, I’m thinking of something inspired by the Castle in the Stars graphic novel series by Alex Alice. The building facade could resemble an observatory.
“Planetarium restaurant”: Would feature international dishes not available in the Small World buffet. Table service. The Space 220 Restaurant was really neat (if a little overpriced), and I would love a steampunk version in my park.
Disney Dreamland Railroad Discoveryland station: Art Nouveau steampunk style.
Tumblr media
Discovery Institute
The modern digital half of the land. Discoveryland opens a new campus dedicated to computer sciences. I do not want this area to look sterile like the current Tomorrowlands, though I might be okay with it resembling Shanghai’s version of Tomorrowland; I have heard their glass structures described as “organic” and I quite agree. I want the architecture of the area to be a believable evolution from the Art Nouveau steampunk, with the curves of Nouveau transforming into the curves of something resembling what Tokyo has planned for their renovation of Space Mountain.
Visions of Tomorrowland: Based on an idea I once had of a version of Tomorrowland that represents alternate timeline futures. This ride could show different “what if” scenes of different Discoverylands.  There could be a main story featuring a scientist as our host, the inventor of a multiverse portal, showcasing his invention to guests, and along the way we run into alternate versions of the scientist from the other realities. One version could be a classic mad scientist from a dystopian world, bent on conquering other dimensions and exploiting their resources, and our host has to fight them off. I guess you could describe this as a much more immersive sci-fi version of the Jungle Cruise. While I would prefer this to be a ride, I guess it could also work as a stage show.
Adventure Thru Inner Space: I have heard nice things about this ride and would have loved to experience it. Shout-out to @disneylanddilettante.
Robot Showcase: Omnimover dark ride. This ride is basically just an excuse to show off high-quality animatronics. Animatronics for days! Could include Baymax, Wall-E, and Lil Bulb as cameos in the ride.
“Robot Cafe”: Based on the unbuilt concept for The Great Gonzo's Pandemonium Pizza Parlor. This restaurant would have robot animatronics deliver guests’ food by way of an overhead "train track" system.
Tumblr media
Cyberspace Arcade
Technically an area within the Discovery Institute, but significantly different enough to require its own description. The entire area would be indoors.   Guests are “digitally transported” into Cyberspace. For visual reference, I’m thinking of the concept art for the (maybe canceled?) Play! Pavilion at EPCOT, but without the Ralph Breaks the Internet branding (I LOVE Wreck-It Ralph, but the sequel not so much) and without all the Disney IP spam (I’m already putting in three movie based rides, so the IP quota has been met). I want the area to feel more like a representation of a private server, or at least a single website, instead of the broader Internet (the Internet is a very scary family-UNfriendly place). The "sky" would have cool graphic projections, similar to how Mamoru Hosoda visually portrayed the Internet in Summer Wars and Digimon Adventure: Our War Game! As for the three movie based rides, I want the explanation to be that the scientists wanted to be able to travel into their favorite video game worlds, and here is the result. The entrances to each attraction could look like a giant icon you can click on. There could also be an actual arcade area, for guests to just relax and chill. That area would feature actual working console games of Fix-It Felix Jr, Sugar Rush, and Hero’s Duty.
“Cyberspace Playground”:  Guests can physically change the environment by interacting with it. If anyone has watched Infinity Train, think of something like the first episode’s Grid Car, but on a grander scale. Could utilize interactive projection mapping.
Videopolis: Stage for live entertainment and dance parties. Just an excuse to have a specific area dedicated to the 80s / 90s. …I just really miss the 90s, okay? I also think the retro music would add the perfect energy to the area.
Star Command Astro Blasters: I honestly just put this here to help balance queue wait times with the other two major rides, and to have at least one thing based on retro space aesthetics. Between this and Toy Story Mania, at least this has physical sets and is less rushed. There would still be plenty of kinetic energy on the ride (not at all like the embarrassingly lifeless and static Ant-Man and Wasp update in Hong Kong). I would only change the animatronic Buzz to at least have a real face though. And maybe at the end of the ride, everyone could get free stickers or postcards or some other physical reward so that it feels like the points earned meant something. I would also emphasize that the context here is Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, NOT Andy’s Buzz from Toy Story.
TRON Lightcycle Run: I have no personal attachment to Tron, but my friend @mewtwowarrior loves Tron, so this indoor coaster is included just for her. Shout-out to @pureimagineering for the idea of two different colored tracks that wind around each other in twists and turns as the two groups of guests race against each other. At the end of the ride, the unloading dock would flash the colors of the track that wins.
Sugar Rush Speedway: Wreck-It Ralph is my top favorite Disney movie. While the movie’s themes of mid-life crisis, rejection by society, and found family would be difficult to adapt into an attraction, this ride can at least embody the “love-letter to video games” aspect, and recreates one of the most visually stunning worlds Disney has ever designed. Sadly this ride makes no references to Ralph, King Candy/Turbo, or non-Princess Vanellope (which includes her glitch, hoodie outfit, and the kart she and Ralph made together), as those aspects are specific to the console in Litwak’s Arcade, and adding them to this ride would have sad implications that Mr. Litwak gave up his console and thereby separated the Sugar Rush characters from their community in Game Central. Alternatively, having the entire Arcade be themed as Litwak’s could fix that, but then would raise questions of why Mr. Litwak let a research team experiment on his games and interrupt his business. So it’s best that this Sugar Rush is a “generic” console to make things simple. That said, I have no issues if the candy shop makes reference to the movie’s events, or with having Ralph and Vanellope as walk around characters (we can say they’re visiting this Arcade via the Internet). When thinking about the queue, I considered it could wind through the candy box grandstands, so that guests that are still waiting for their ride could double as a cheering audience for the guests before them. The theme song by AKB48 would of course play on a loop. On the ride, guests would “race” through rich environments such as Gumball Gorge, Cherry Bomb Cakeway, the Frosty Rally ice cream mountains, and Diet Cola Mountain. To make it feel like a video game, there could be “power-ups” located throughout the ride. The guest that “claims” the power-up first (perhaps by pushing a timed button in their vehicles) gets the advantage. Power-ups can cause some karts to speed up or opponents slow down, or activate obstacles and surprises. Would it be a hazard to shoot “sprinkle” confetti at the guests? Alternatively, this ride could also possibly use virtual reality headsets to enhance the experience with visual effects and make the ride feel like even more of a game, as demonstrated by the Mario Kart ride at Universal Studios, a ride with gorgeous physical sets that is maximized by the VR (again, emphasizing that VR should not be a replacement for good physical sets and effects). The guest who wins the race could receive a free framed souvenir snapshot of their victory.
Finish Line Sweet Treats: Candy shop, bakery, and ice cream parlor. Based on Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats on the Disney Dream cruise ship. Guests could make their own kart cake at the Kart Bakery. Sundaes are served in trophy cups and replicas of Vanellope’s kart like the ones on the cruise ship. The Ralph-in-a-cupcake red velvet cupcake is a must. Would also feature a selection of Japanese sweets such as konpeito and mochi. Giant cotton candy like the kind you’d find in Harajuku.

Closing thoughts:
There was a lot I wanted to include, but couldn't think of solutions for, such as attractions based on Zootopia and Monsters Inc. But I'm quite happy with this end result. (I say this like it's actually being built, and not an elaborate daydream in my mind, lol.)
As you might have noticed, my park does not feature Marvel or Star Wars in any capacity. While there are some Marvel shows I like, I do not consider myself a Marvel fan, and I have little interest in Star Wars. And quite frankly, I think that visually, they clash horribly with most Disney aesthetics.
There are a lot of minor things I forgot to mention, like there would be plenty of benches and sitting areas with shade, plenty of restrooms, the food would have effort and quality put into it to be worth theme park prices, and backstage would have plenty of space and comfortable break rooms for Cast Members. Not related to the park itself, but I would also like to imagine the Cast Members here are paid and treated well, and have a good amount of free benefits, like park tickets and room and board for out-of-town residents and interns.
I realize that in order to accommodate everything I want, this park would have to be MASSIVE, at least the size of Shanghai Disneyland. I just like far too many things. I realize it would have been smarter to break off some parts for a second park, but I'm just too fond of the idea of having everything all in one place.
As I mentioned, I REALLY love carousels and could not resist putting so many themed carousels in my park. They might not be exciting rides, but I legitimately think they are GORGEOUS works of art that add perfect visual beauty and musical atmosphere.
Much like Walt's initial sentiment, I don't think my ideal park will stay this way forever. Who knows, in a few years I might update this. We'll see. Thanks for taking the time to read these. :)

I just had the STRANGEST dream packed with SO MUCH LORE I am legit so lost about where to even start.
CW: the dream contained depictions of death by government agents, as well as sexual harassment initiated by minors (this content warning makes the dream sound so dark omg shsjdndn)
So there was this amusement park an ex-friend introduced me too. Later digging would reveal that it was opened by a Japanese video game company known primarily for making low-budget stimulation games (exact words from my dream) and was operated entirely by a single couple.
I had so much fun at this park that I began encouraging everyone I knew to come to it. And like other people liked it too.
Strangely enough though, my presence seemed to attract fairies to the amusement park, filling the area with magic, making it more popular. Or so I thought.
One day, after an incident in which I accidentally forced an evacuation of the amusement park by tripping the wife of the couple who ran the park, I stayed behind to apologize for her, only to discover little gnomes were trying to misdirect me.
I followed the gnomes and discovered they were obeying the command of the husband of the couple, a Mexican man who had magical instruments he could use to command the magic creatures residing at the amusement park. When I asked the man how he learned to control the creatures, he told me the REAL story as to how the amusement park came to be filled with magic.
Originally he began seeing the creatures when he would take care of the lawn in front of his house which was on the same property as the amusement park. Convinced he was imagining things, he checked himself into a psychiatric institute in hopes of learning why he was imagining things. But every time he returned from the institute, he kept seeing more and more magical creatures as they began to fill the property with magic.
After several rounds of checking himself in and out of the institute, his wife has converted his part of the bedroom into a room that opens from outside and is full of grass with brick flooring. And in that room had apparently grown some instruments: a drum and a some type of flute instrument. He starts playing them and in doing so, is able to control the magical creatures who live there, finally convincing himself that he isn't crazy.
Excited to have learned all this, I go home and start hyperfixating on the amusement park, learning as much as I can about it. It is then that I learn the company that opened the park was a video game company and the apparent success of the park, led to them recursively releasing game about it.
I seek to watch let's plays of the game, and all that I can find are Japanese walkthroughs explaining the apparently very complex mechanics the game uses. Since they have subtitles though, I begin watching them in my living room where my sister gets intrigued and starts watching them too.
After a while of watching them, I return to researching about the park and learn from a forum thag the game apparently does have a plot. And the plot apparently ends with the execution by government agents of the husband.
Concerned for his life, I go to talk to my sister about it and she is in the living room, still watching the videos despite not reading the subtitles and not speaking Japanese. It is then that I get informed by one of my aunt's that one of my uncle's was arrested by government agents, who are considering executing him.
Confused about all the potential executions, I go back to researching to find footage of the husband being executed in the game. I find some and it does indeed look exactly like the man I had met, rendered in 2d cartoonish graphics. The art style kinda resembled those cheap mobile games.
Anyways seeing a cartoon version of the man have his home raided by agents and then executed, k go to find my sister so we can hopefully warn the man and prevent him from being captured. When I go to do so however, I am greeted by my family, who are all at my house, with tear stained faces. I ask them what's going on and they had me a phone. My aunt is on the other line and tells me it's too late. My uncle has been executed. Confused, I ask which of my uncle's, but before I could get my answer I snapped awake.
Also there were a few other scenes that didn't really contribute to the plot but that I still remember.
So first off the pain attraction of the amusement park was this ride where the first section seems like an irl Mario level where you basically just run around hopping on platforms and stuff but there is also a climbable wall that you can climb that takes you to a unique "bonus area" the mechanics behind j did not witness despite understanding how it worked.
That area led to a regular slide that apparently went fast enough that you could endanger yourself by not boarding the slide properly.
When I exited the slide, I encountered some famous YouTuber named Sarah and some girl I went to elementary school also named Sarah. The fact that they were hanging out together was meant to be some kind of pun (although awake brain realized two people named Sarah hanging out is actually a really funny "sera sera" joke although that is NOT what the pun was in my dream).
Anyways, as I was leaving the amusement park, I was greeted by some middle schoolers, one of which was apparently intrigued by me and tried talking to me, culminating in her trying to get me to grope her. I was SO uncomfortable with that and I told her off, but apparently it was a common occurance for me to be sexually harassed while exiting the park. I was feeling extremely uncomfortable about it until I ran into an old friend from high school and the ex-friend who introduced me to the park, although they were apparently still on good terms with me.
Finally, the incident that caused the evacuation started with me waiting in line for a ride with my sister and cousin. We were waiting in an area where you could see the magical effects of some fairies that I thought I had attracted to the park (I thought I was attracting them to the park because I was a princess). While we waited, there was a screen projector that accepted VHS, so we tried to climb up to the projector to play a VHS cassette we happened to have on hand. Though we couldn't get the projector to work, we got distracted by the wife of the couple having a Ted talk about running a successful amusement park. While she spoke, I tried to get up to throw away the wrapper from my snack, but as all the trash cans were behind the wife as she spoke, I had to sneak behind her, ultimately causing her to stop while I was in her way which somehow lead to the evacuation.

ACNH Dream Tour # 10
Tumblr media
I visited this nice island because it was themed and I found it on Pinterest. It was The Office themed. I’ve never watched The Office, but I have seen some of the funny scenes and wanted to visit. I didn’t understand any of the references and not totally sure if the entire island was in that theme but there was one area at least that was. The Office part was worth going to see. I will show my walkthrough below.
Tumblr media
The flag was Dwight, I think his name is.
Tumblr media
The first area I found was a little café area.
Tumblr media
A nice fountain in the center...it’s not connected to any of the other roads, so this may be a work in progress.
Tumblr media
Right up front was the resident services rep’s house.
Tumblr media
The first room was very functional with a TV and kitchen. It almost looked like an office kitchen area. Break room maybe?
Tumblr media
To the left was a bathroom. Very nice use of the blue tile.
Tumblr media
The room in the back was a bedroom. Very simple.
Tumblr media
To the right was an office.
Tumblr media
The room upstairs was what looked like a bar.
Tumblr media
And the basement looked like just a storage area for DIYs.
Tumblr media
Found a little classroom...where’s the teacher? Can we leave after 15 minutes?
Tumblr media
Hey. A Bowling Alley! Cool.
Tumblr media
A nice little park.
Tumblr media
Here was the Rep.
Tumblr media
And then I found a nice flower garden.
Tumblr media
This looks like a Fruit Market.
Tumblr media
All the villager houses were put in the upper left of the island laid out in neat rows.
Tumblr media
This looks like the a Japanese garden.
Tumblr media
Orchard!
Tumblr media
And here it is! The Office set. It had all the office desks set where everyone sat in the show.
Tumblr media
They also had the break room and the conference room.
Tumblr media
I found a pool area. No running!
Tumblr media
And lastly was the Museum with fossil displays out front.
The island wasn’t as put together, but it had very nice separate areas that were very nice.

So many cool park concepts and ideas I want to develop, and so little time to do so. I’m gonna get around to them eventually, but until I do here’s a preview:
- There’s a place in Washington DC called the Mansion on O Street. It’s a massive art installation/hotel that has a crazy number of secret passageways and hidden secrets. So let’s take that concept and put it towards a haunted house or mystic hut type walkthrough.
- Designing an entire hidden land that’s cut off from the rest of the park by those mist screens Disney uses for Fantasmic! Atlantis perhaps? Also wouldn’t appear on park maps - you’d just discover it through sheer curiosity.
- Building restaurants and shops that are half in one land and half in the other. There’s some precedent here, though the idea of mishmashing theming in each respective half and shoving it together is one I’d like to explore. My initial thought for this is a half Peruvia/Andean, half Himalayan restaurant that straddles the border and has cuisine from each locale.
- Walkthrough attractions that intersect with rides. Imagine being able to hike through Expedition Everest or Big Thunder while the coaster is roaring right by you. Each different attraction would feature its own highlights. (Sort of like Indiana Jones mini land concept art)
- A ride with an unreliable narrator/multiple narrators, with rooms that change/shift art style/lighting depending on the narrator
- A land/area in the form of a half-sunken cruise ship, but not in a tragic way. More like the ship just sort of got stuck and it’s become a cool community feature. Lots of interesting water features and assorted rides (carrousel, etc.) that may be on a slight angle. Fancy cruise-type restaurant with views of reefs and assorted fish life. Sub/boat ride through the sunken depths of the ship and surrounding waters. This would be a logistical nightmare of a land but an aesthetic and thematic dream
- An origami boat ride through the history of Japanese art forms. As in, you ride in an origami style boat, and different rooms feature their settings “folding” into place. Sort of a “small world” vibe
- A park/land that you enter through a mansion type building. You quickly pass through into the land that is all outdoors, but there are hints and clues scattered about that lead you to believe the land and all it’s contents are all an illusion and you’re still “stuck” in the house. Spooky!
More general ideas here rather than anything too specific, but maybe I’ll have a follow-up post in the near future. And hopefully by then I’ll have made some progress on these...

It’s almost Fall and that means Knott’s Scary Farm is returning for the Halloween season!  Every August there is a big presentation for what’s coming to the annual extra ticket event.  This year they made a spectacular presentation.  But, more on that in a later post.  Here’s what’s coming up for the 2018 Knott’s Scary Farm.
Returning Mazes
The big draw for Scary Farm are the mazes.  These are the haunted house style walkthroughs that have big surprises to scare guests at every corner.  Though there have been many favorites over the years, there is only room to have so many mazes.  There are a few returning favorites to Scary Farm:
Dark Ride
Over in Carnevil an abandoned carnival haunted house ride still has some ghoulish carnies looking for guests to keep within the bowels of the freakish ride.  It’s a nightmare of being on a terrifying ride with no way out!
Trick or Treat: Lights Out
This somewhat interactive maze through the Green Witch’s house will have guests get through with a faulty flashlight.  It will turn on and off randomly and reveal surprises as you try to get out of the maze.
Shadow Lands
This maze is inspired by Japanese samurai and has you go through several settings of samurai purgatory.  This is one of my personal favorites as it has a great opening and unique environments.
Pumpkin Eater
Over in the Camp Snoopy area is this maze with a theme slightly inspired by the nursery rhyme.  There’s a 7-foot tall creature that will be lurking that you’ll have to escape from, but he also is around The Hollow scare zone surrounding this maze…
Special Ops: Infected
The zombie shooting guided maze returns!  You’ll be armed with special laser tag type guns that enable you to battle your way through the zombie-infected environment.  The finale is redone with a “boss fight” type end.  This is my absolute favorite and something that has enticed me to get the Scary Farm Season Pass to keep going through and improving my score!  With a boss fight at the end, it is sure to be another big hit!
PARANORMAL, INC.
Hayden Hill is a haunted hospital setting for the fictional ghost hunter tv show.  You’ll join the team as they venture through the hospital, but creepy doctors are still looking for some victims.
Red Barn
A farmer that has a monstrous dark side will have guests screaming as they try to escape an inescapable barn.  A new entrance opening has been created for the maze this year.
Returning Scare Zones
The production team described this year’s Scary Farm as making the whole park one big attraction.  New lighting, decoration, and immersive scare zones are all part of the action.  They said you will be immersed in everything once you set foot past the gates.
The Scare Zones are a big part of the immersiveness and this year there will be some returning favorites.  I already mentioned The Hollow which will surround the Pumpkin Eater maze.  Ghost Town Streets is the classic one that started the whole event.  Carnevil is back in the Boardwalk.  It will incorporate a special lighting effect with HangTime.
New Mazes and Scare Zone
Two new mazes, one new scare zone, and an overlay are making their way to Scary Farm this year.
The Depths
With some inspiration from HP Lovecraft stories, this maze will send you back to the 1940’s to a coastal town with creepy caverns.  Inside these caverns are amphibious humanoids and watery monsters that want to keep you within the rock walls.  You are sent to see what happened to some miners that were exploring the depths of the caves.
Dark Entities
You’ll be teleported from earth to a station that encountered a terrifying alien.  You’ll have to find out what happened to the crew and try to escape this horrifying creature.  The production team mentioned a full, large costume was made for the alien entity, and special video effects with other new technology will be incorporated into the space-themed maze.
Forsaken Lake
The new Scare Zone for 2018 is Forsaken Lake.  At the lake under Silver Bullet, gothic creatures are going to be looking for guests to bring back down to the waters.  A show stop will be incorporated into the zone, which will happen periodically throughout the night.  Music has been created for the zone and is inspired by New Orleans funeral dirges.
Zombie Ghost Town VR
Ghost Town VR will get a digital overlay where you can shoot zombies in this interactive virtual reality game.  The game will cost an extra $5, but the regular game is already fun and immersive that this will be a good treat for the night!
Shows
There are 4 shows at Scary Farm this year.
The Hanging
The hugely favorite Hanging has the Lawman trying to find out the biggest offender of the year from various pop culture icons.
Awaken the Dead
A dance party in Fiesta Village will let you dance to a DJ and some ghoulish residents.
Conjure
In the Bird Cage Theater, some master magicians will show their various illusions.  Dana Daniels, Taylor Hughes, and Chipper Lowell will be appearing, as well as others from Fox’s Masters of Illusion.
Hacks – Cutting Room Floor
An improvisational team will put together a B-horror movie.  Audiences will get in on the act as they help come up with ideas for the team.
Rides and Into the Fog
There will be a few rides that will be experienced in the dark.  Sierra Sidewinder, Silver Bullet, and GhostRider will be ridden in the dark!  Into the Fog is an art show at the Bizarre Bazaar located below Voyage to Iron Reef.  Artists have conjured up their talents to make Scary Farm inspired paintings, sculptures, and other pieces on display.  There are prints of the art available for purchase as well.  The Bizarre Bazaar also has special Scary Farm merchandise for purchase.
How to Experience
Scary Farm tickets are already on sale online.  A Season Pass is available for repeat visits.  Tickets are $40 off online from the $82 gate price.  Passes are $90 for non-Knotts Season Passholders and $85 for Season Passholders.
Fright and Fast Lane passes are available for separate purchase for $85.  There is also a combo ticket with the Lane passes for $120.  The Fright Lane pass lets you bypass the line for mazes.  Fast Lane bypasses lines for rides.
Parking will be $22.
A Boo-fet is available for $31.99 online, and $36.99 day of.  It’s a great way to get in early to the event and eat some delicious food!
I highly recommend the Season Pass if you are somewhat local.  Special Ops is a great repeatable attraction.  Hacks sounds like it will certainly be entertaining each time as it depends on the audience participation.  Conjure will have rotating magicians to return to see.  All of this alone is worth getting the pass, but it’s great to repeat favorite mazes or take your time through each night.
With tickets and passes on sale now be sure to get your dates set to go to this amazing Halloween event!
[ReviewDisclaimer]

Tone Control in Video Games
Hello everyone. In today’s blog I will be discussing Tone Control in video games, for this I will be discussing a video on YouTube by Ben Burbank, where he plays and discusses the SNES cult classic game Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan); the game was translated from Japanese to English by a man named Marcus Lindblom. The video starts with an unboxing of the game and showing that it came with a Players Strategy guide and a kind of walkthrough, this is likely due to the fact that JRPG’s were not yet as popular back then as they are today and many players would be confused as to where to go and what the goals are, the video also mentions that the game did not sell very well due to poor marketing by Nintendo. Having the only marketing aimed at the “Boogers and farts crowd” having played a little of the game myself on the Mini SNES as well as seeing various reviews and play-through videos of the game I very much disagree with the marketing choices there as there are other titles at the time such as Beavis and Butthead games and even Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 that much more match the target audience. The latter titles being more aimed at the younger demographic. Earthbound sold only 200,000 copies whereas Mother 1 (Colloquially called Earthbound Zero by English-Speaking fans) sold 400,000 within the first week in Japan alone. The game was only initially released in an oversized box that came with a players guide magazine. The game takes place 10 years after the original Mother, and it also has the same villain from the first game, which is an all-powerful space god. The game begins with a bright colourful bedroom scene where the player character talks to their mother and is told to get dressed, he then exits the house to investigate a meteor landing, the colour palette then shifts to a dark night scene with cops scattered all over the place; they talk about how much they hate their jobs. The following day you meet your neighbour pokey back at your house. Ben discusses how he can’t really hate the character even though he’s a bad person because he was abused as a child, the game discusses this really quickly. Something of this level being revealed so soon I find rather pointless and ineffective as there was no time to bond with the character and therefore the abuse backstory loses all its power and meaning. The game attempts to deal with social issues, Ben mentions later on in the game that there are prostitutes. I find this very unusual and not what you would expect from Nintendo given how they around this time were trying to push family values. Unanswered prayers are something covered in the game, where a character has a pray attack that does nothing. I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a jab at religious groups or just an on the cheek social commentary. The game also has some implementation of discouraging players from playing for excess periods of time, in game your dad will call you and ask if you’re okay and tell you to take a break, or your character will walk slower and have lowered stats. The battles have an inconsistent range of enemies; A parking meter, some silver robot, a snake, crows, a green creature on top of some kind of drill, some wooden robot that looks like a piece of construction vehicle, a petrol pump and much more.   In summary there are a lot of cool ideas here but I believe as well as the poor marketing there was just too much going on here and it couldn’t captivate American/European audiences the same way that it did in Japan, the game has since become a cult classic and has fans itching for the whole series to have an English translation.

Amnesia Memories Ukyo Walkthrough
To get all of the CGs you’ll need to play all routes and all endings. This is only for the good ending.  Ukyo wasn’t as good of a route as I’d originally hoped.  He’s gone mad and this route can get pretty tragic.  I don’t know that a trigger warning or anything is necessary, but if you do play through this route be aware it’s a bit rough.
I see a strange-looking kid…  No, I understood…  All right…  I appreciate it  I think so  You might be overthinking it…  Joker World  Orion…  I can’t remember anything  (choose all options)  Yes, let’s hurry  Right, let’s hurry and look  It’s because I’d be limited, right?  I don’t  Okay  I’ll pass  I think we can trust him  Until about three minutes ago  No, I feel fine Sounds good to me  Where is it?  Why did you save me?  No  I’m sorry, I don’t remember  Were you all right, Ukyo?  Would you like to come over?  I’m fine, thank you  Sure  No  I don’t know  No, I haven’t  I’m fine  How can you predict the future?  Have we held hands before?  Your logic doesn’t make sense…  Welcome home, Masters  Sorry, I can’t decide  Sawa, did you know Rika?  I guess I do  Are you all right, Ukyo?  Why did you tell me?  What would his purpose be?  I’ll stay home  Would you like to come in for tea?  … Let me go!  Yes…  I was just kidding  So can I approach you when you’re awake?  Are you homeless?  How do you feel about me? NY / Catenations

Catenations September 11 – October 11, 2020 The gallery will be open every Sat & Sun from 3 – 6pm and by appointment Before visiting, please read over our COVID Regulations and Protocols here
Fluid Dialogue Round-robin artist talks featuring artists from Catenations Recordings of the conversations are available here: [Watch the June 17th conversation] [Watch the June 24th conversation]
[Images] [Video Walkthrough]
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to reopen by presenting Catenations, originally set to open March 27th, this exhibition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In June the artists and curators held two round-robin style artist talks which can be watched below on the exhibition page. Keep an eye on @TSA_NY on Instagram and Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York on Facebook for content related to this exhibition.
This exhibition features work by Atul Bhalla, Gail Biederman, Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow, Mary Dwyer, Timothy Fadek, Julia Krolik and Owen Fernley, Phoebe Murer, Bridget Frances Quinn, Karolin Schwab, Motohide Takami and Cheryl Yun. The exhibition is curated by Rachael Gorchov and Jo Yarrington.
Both inside and outside of us, water comprises 60% of the human body and 70% of the earth’s surface. Access to clean water is an essential human right. Beyond basic survival, we use it in a myriad of ways throughout our daily lives. It is the basis of many cultural and spiritual practices. Our use of water defines geographic borders as well as influencing trade and economics.
In chemistry, catenation is the bonding of atoms of the same element. This exhibition uses the title Catenations as a way to frame a collection of artworks that together invite the viewer to consider the role of water in their own health, happiness, and the politics surrounding water. The works range in media from painting, photography and video to installation and performance.
Phoebe Murer has been making paintings of swimming pools and water parks for over ten years. Her painting in this exhibition portrays a joyful and physical communing with water that she never experienced as a child. Through her adult eyes these arenas, which some might view as overly artificial, are transformed into surreal and magical spaces.
In his piece “What will be my defeat?” performed in Hamburg, Germany, Atul Bhalla, an artist based in India, draws from an episode in the Indian epic “Mahabharata” in which a body of water asks the five princes to answer questions before drinking. Bhalla encourages the viewer to continue this conversation with water about human existence and purpose by sending them to local bodies of water with questions he distributes at the gallery in the form of stickers.
In “The Resonant Underbelly of Suburbia” Bridget Frances Quinn also asks the viewer to imagine an interaction with water, in this case by singing. She invited residents of Warren, Michigan to take part in site-specific vocal meditations in stormwater culverts. While working on this project, she uncovered illicit industrial polluting of local creeks and through civic engagement aided in the elimination of this activity. She wonders, “What other wounds and healing potentials might we discover if we wade into our local waters and sing to them?”
Gail Biederman is an installation artist who through mapping examines identity, relationships and physical terrain. Her site-specific installation at TSA brings the viewers’ attention to the water pipes that run the length of the gallery. Both she and German artist Karolin Schwab incorporate water as a physical presence within the space. In her piece “Black water” Karolin Schwab places several black circular reflecting pools onto the floor. Each of them functions as a mirror, bending and distorting the viewers’ perception of themselves within their surroundings. As she describes, “Even in this still state, it is the water that makes something happen. It is because of the water that we can see.”
Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow is a Jamaican-American artist who makes work dealing with globalism and Caribbean folklore. In her performance “Starmaggedon” she entangles herself within a starfish-shaped net filled with plastic waste. The work addresses the major pollution caused by human negligence in our oceans. The exhibition will feature the net with photo-documentation of the performance.
Mary Dwyer, a healthcare worker and artist, makes intimate paintings commemorating important yet anonymous figures from history. In her painting “Sanitation Workers” she honors “World Toilet Day.” The United Nations created this day to highlight the importance of access to clean water because of how water-borne illnesses play a significant part in the global sanitation crisis.
In response to the Fukushima tsunami disaster in 2011, Japanese artist Motohide Takami uses a symbolic image of a house in his painting “Fire P” to speak to our inability to connect with disaster until it becomes personalized. Water acts as a boundary – separating the viewer from the disaster at hand.
Six years ago, photojournalist Timothy Fadek completed a story with Terra Mater magazine on horseshoe crab’s powder-blue blood and its harvesting for use in testing the purity of pharmaceuticals. This is still practiced despite industry efforts to seek alternatives. The work in this exhibition documents the bleeding process at Charles River Laboratories in Charleston, SC. In their code-based artwork “Depth to Water” Canadian collaborators Julia Krolik and Owen Fernley visualized 367,089 private well water data points revealing the geography of Ontario. This work highlights how groundwater, one continuous subterranean resource, is arbitrarily shared between parcels of private land, emphasizing the increasing importance of equal water distribution.
And finally, photographer Cheryl Yun has created 3D printed objects rendered from media images of global catastrophes dealing with forced migration and climate change. She focuses on water and the conflicts surrounding it by isolating sections of low-resolution 2D images found online. Yun chooses images that carry weight and gives them physical weight.
Tiger Strikes Asteroid's 2020 exhibition program is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).Atul Bhalla, excerpt from "What will be my defeat?”, 2012 – 2020, performance

Sphere Ruins pt 2
Tumblr media
To visit the second half of Sphere Ruins, we drop by this hole. The house it’s in has a sign outside helpfully warning you that there’re open holes too. Bring a Pokemon with Rock Smash or Dig.
Tumblr media
Follow the path through to get here; helpfully, you can also climb back up to leave the area.
Tumblr media
You’ll wind up in a room with dark walls; if you interact in certain areas you’ll be prompted to use Dig.
Tumblr media
But Rock Smash does the job just fine. Puzzles aside, I’m reminded of the fact that Rock Smash let you break walls in the PMD games, and I wonder if the devs had that in mind.
Tumblr media
The gimmick of this room is that you basically go in totally random directions when interacting with any rock. Just keep at it and you’ll eventually get to the other side.
Tumblr media
The braille reads “JEWELS”; this indicates the ruby/sapphire, which need to be set, otherwise reading the braille does nothing. Dr. Akimbo notes that the flag isn’t permanent and may reset upon saving/loading, so if that happens you can just read the braille here again.
Tumblr media
The braille reads “DREAMS”. You need to have read the previous braille so a rock blocking the way to this wall will be removed.
Tumblr media
Reading the previous braille opens up access to this ladder.
Tumblr media
“PO”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reading the last sign opens up a hole, and following the path after dropping down eventually leads here.
Tumblr media
The ladder leads to an interesting room; at specific points in this room, you’ll get into a forced encounter with a specific Pokemon, all of whom are at level 100.
Tumblr media
Catching or running from any of them will teleport you back to the start of the room. It’s not necessarily a bad place to nab some level 100 Pokemon if you really wanted, I guess. Still, to progress you do have to beat all the ‘mons you will run into.
Tumblr media
Ouch. Speedy bastard.
Tumblr media
While my team has EVs, the level disadvantage is a bit of a wrench in the works. Just a bit, though.
Tumblr media
Magcargo is kind of an oddball out in that it and the next Pokemon aren’t fakemons. I wonder why?
Tumblr media
As far as I’m aware, there’s no particular reasoning behind why each ‘mon was chosen. I dunno, maybe the devs all really like them!
Tumblr media
At level 100, she’ll have Sheer Cold. That’s always fun!
Tumblr media
I wish ASUKA could learn Dragon Claw :(
Tumblr media
You’re in the home clear after beating Nostratos, and the doorway leads to the penultimate room of Sphere Ruins. The gimmick is that there’s only one correct direction, and going the wrong way just brings you back to the start of the room.
Tumblr media
It’s really simple. Incidentally, that item ball below the ladder is the Hail TM.
Tumblr media
And past that ladder… look who it is! Asphere, or Asufia (JP).
Tumblr media
“…the way here.”
Something I noticed from checking Dr. Akimbo’s translation-walkthrough is that Asufia’s first few lines in Sirius comes off as slightly brusquer than in Altair (where its dialogue is, “…Oh, a human? Why have you come here?”).
It’s not too different, but it’s something interesting. It was probably also present in the original Japanese, too, wasn’t it?
Tumblr media
The full power of Aquila in Altair.
Tumblr media
And here’s the final challenge of Sphere Ruins: Asphere itself. In Sirius, Asphere is Electric/Dragon, has stats of 100/100/120/150/120/130, giving it a more defensive bent while still being speedy and capable of packing a punch. Those defenses are bolstered with it having Marvel Scale as an ability, too!
Tumblr media
Its moveset comprises of Rain Dance/Thunder/Night Slash/Recover. Hypothetically, I suppose you could park a bulky Pokemon in front to stall out its attacks (Steelix, despite its godawful Special Defense, comes to mind for at least stalling out Thunder PP).
Tumblr media
In lieu of that, LANZA did the job just fine.
Tumblr media
What’s nifty is that Sacred Ash, which you may or may not be inclined to dump on your team.
Tumblr media
While I would have preferred Calm or Bold, I don’t mind this as a nature. Not too shabby!
 Although, I wonder…

Yes, let’s hurry.
Right, let’s hurry and look.
AUGUST 1
It’s because I’d be limited, right?
I don’t.
Okay.
I’ll pass.
I think we can trust him.
AUGUST 2
Until about three minutes ago.
No, I feel fine.
Can I work inside instead?
Where is it?
AUGUST 3
Why did you save me?
No.
I’m sorry, I don’t remember.

Are you homeless?
How do you feel about me?
AUGUST 12
I’ll talk it over with Ukyo.
AUGUST 13
Maybe we shouldn’t go…?
I’m a little worried about Ukyo.
I think I should.
I wanted to see you.
AUGUST 14
Don’t worry about it.
I think it was just a prank.
I want to know him more.
AUGUST 15
Yeah, let’s go out.
How about places where Ukyo might be?
Should I sue you, then?
But I wouldn’t mind…
Weren’t you crying that one time?
AUGUST 16
Are you accustomed to Japanese culture?
AUGUST 18
Why don’t we stay here and talk?
As long as I’m not near you, we’re good, right?
Would I not be good enough to talk to?
Is that the only reason?
AUGUST 19
Let’s go outside.
Do you like the outdoors?
Would you like to nap at my place?
AUGUST 20
Maybe I’ll go to Kandagawa Park.
So I can’t look at you at all?
AUGUST 21
Let’s go to Myouga University.
I was just curious…
AUGUST 22
Did you text me earlier?
August 23
I want to go.
Would you like to come over?
…Maybe I shouldn’t have.
Please don’t go.
AUGUST 24
No… I think it’s better to keep it from him…
AUGUST 25
I’m curious about Ukyo.
…Because…
I forgive him.
GOOD ENDING

Day 1 continued, and Day 2
I eventually woke Lucy up at 7pm and advised her that we had two options. 1, she could go back to sleep, however we would be unable to pick up the tickets needed for the Final Fantasy Eorzea Cafe as they had to be collected today, and we would lose the reservation. Or option 2, which was go to Lawson, pick up the tickets and food, come back, eat and sleep.
Needless to say we went for option 2. I cannot tell you how much of a faff getting tickets to Eorzea Cafe has been. I tried to pre-book a few weeks ago, but for holding a reservation for more than 3 days, you need to pay upfront with a credit card. Let me tell you now, upon research online and trying it myself, it seems the only card that will work is AMEX as it can’t be linked to a foreign country. Therefore, I had to hope that 3 days before our trip there were spaces left, go through the booking site in Japanese, and then use the Loppi machine at Lawson also in Japanese. I lucked out on a space near the end of our trip, but trying to find out where to pay for the tickets was even more of a faff.
Sure, I know they’re collected at a Loppi machine in Lawsons, but did you know there are multiple types of Lawson combini in Japan? I was about to say 2, but having just googled it to find out why, apparently it’s 4. 4 shops, same name, different focuses and slightly different products. There’s a Lawson 100 (or as the clerk put it, Green Lawson), and then there’s normal Lawson (Pink and Blue Lawson). And no, Google will not tell you which is which (otherwise I really wouldn’t mind, as it didn’t for us) as it just calls all of the combini Lawson. We had so much trouble, that honestly I would check where the Lawsons are in relation to you, and then use street view to determine whether it had a pink and blue striped sign or not.
Once I had found the right type of Lawson, operating the Loppi machine was fairly straightforward as I had read a few walkthroughs beforehand, and seemed to remember most of the instructions.
Essentially, when you make a reservation you receive a QR code by email. On the machine, you want to hit the middle button with ‘Loppi QR’ on it, scan the QR code, and then it will ask you for the phone number used when making the booking.
What you need to remember then is to basically press the orange button (yes/continue), apart from on the screen where you’re asked about Ponta cards (hit the grey button). You then get to inputting your name, which looks confusing with all the buttons and no English language button, but you can input the name in the Roman alphabet by pressing the third button down in the list to the right of the characters. Input the first name, press the second button in the list for a space, enter last name, then hit orange ok buttons to confirm until the machine spits out a receipt at you.
I’d love to say that’s the whole process, but no. Almost there though. Take the receipt to the counter within 30 minutes (you can pay for shopping at the same time too), pay, sign the receipt as prompted, and the Pink and Blue clerk will kindly hand you the tickets.
Gotta love that bureaucracy! I’m sure there are things at home just as convoluted, but honestly if Lucy hadn’t been bugging me about this for weeks and I myself getting into the game in the past month or so, I probably would have stopped somewhere around my card not working online.
If you’d like to know how to make the reservation, my recommendation would be to follow this excellent guide: https://riikorinkoko.wordpress.com/2017/05/15/riikos-eorzea-cafe-reservation-guide-and-how-to-use-s-loppi-machines-at-lawson-ffxiv-final-fantasy-xiv/amp/
Only addition to this would be to open the page in Chrome if possible, so it can be automatically translated.
Back at the hotel, we ate the snacks we’d purchased, called home (or tried to, in any case), before finally heading off to bed.
I woke up again at 9am on our first full day, after setting my alarm. I spent an hour checking things like emails and trying to trace our bags, of which there was currently no news, before I woke Lucy up. Over the next hour or so we got ready as best we could with a mishmash of clothes, no makeup, and no deodorant (as that’s...kind of not a thing here due to Asian genetics?), before heading out the door around 11:15.
On our way along to Kaminarimon Gate and Asakusa shrine and temple we spotted a shop that essentially was a bit like a Superdrug back home, where Lucy managed to find some basic makeup.

I really enjoyed walking round the shrine and temple; despite the insane amount of people in places the atmosphere was very serene. We both pulled a fortune, and as per usual with me, I get bad luck xD As is traditional, I tied it on the special rack and hopefully that means our bags won’t get even more delayed >.<

We also both got these wooden sticks you write your name and date of birth on which have a wish, and somehow this is supposed to bring you closer to that wish? Nothing particularly special for this, get wooden stick, write on stick, hand back stick to guy you just brought from, done. I mean, when in Rome, but somehow I feel like I just got conned into paying 200 yen to scribble on a stick.
We both picked up a drink at this point from one of the vending machines as the weather had heated up considerably, and then headed to the incense counter where you can buy incense, light it, and then waft it on yourself before putting it in the big burner so that it can be shared with others wafting the incense onto themselves. Wafting incense is believed to cleanse you.

After this we wandered round the local shopping streets and found a nice cafe for lunch. Lucy went for a cola and sandwich toastie with pizza filling; I went for a melon soda float, and spaghetti neapolitan. Both of us enjoyed the food; the soda float was the perfect thing after being in the heat.

After lunch, we headed out to the Tokyo Skytree for our prebooked tickets. We were also fortunate that prebooking allowed us to jump the long queue for the elevator and zoom right to the 350m deck to enjoy the sights of Tokyo from above. However somewhere along our travels the weather turned overcast, and therefore whilst still a decent view of Tokyo, we were unable to see Fuji-san at this point. As we also had galleria tickets, we then went up again to 450m, which again was very impressive. They also had a a barbie exhibition for some reason up at this level and a little pop up barbie themed shop. A browse around later and we both ended up buying a compact mirror each with a pretty illustration on the front.

On the way back down, we went in the main Skytree gift shop where I got a fridge magnet with a stained glass effect for our fridge back home :) At this point, we felt kind of done with crowds and queues, so it was back on the subway to the hotel for us. Unfortunately, our luggage had still not arrived >.< I had received a message earlier in the day advising me that the bags had arrived at the airport, and that they would therefore be passed to the delivery company.
I had to take a break at this point as not long after we got back to the hotel I developed a thumping headache, for which I honestly have to praise past me, who usually forgets everything but her electronics, for packing paracetamol in the hand luggage. I took one of these and lay down for a bit, and by around 7pm this had died down considerably.
At this point I decided to get a drink, so I hit up the 12th floor as the details we were given stated there is a vending machine up there; there very well might be. However, the 12th floor turned out to be the roof, and as it was raining considerably we went down to the ground floor where another one was supposedly located. And there was, only it was outside the back of the hotel, in the street past the parking lot, after going down a flight of stairs 😣 The only upside of this is that I ended up teaching the front desk clerk who helped us the words ‘vending machine’ as he did not know the phrase in English.
At this point we also needed food, so we went back upstairs to grab our coats before making a mad dash across the road to Family Mart. I have to say, combini food in Japan is honestly as amazing as everyone makes out.

In England you go to the ‘to go’ section of ASDA and maybe get a mayonnaise sandwich with a small bit of ham on soggy bread if you’re lucky. Here, you can go to the corner shop, get a meal made with fresh ingredients, have it heated up for you, and then if you really want you can eat it at the counter provided. Buy a pot noodle and want it now? Use the hot water machine to soak your noodles. Not about that life? Have freshly baked proper pastries, or warm chicken instead.
I would go on, but I’m too busy thinking about the hot royal milk tea I had out of a bottle, which was perfect in the drizzle this evening on the way home, the bacon wrapped onigiri, and caramel pudding parfait I had for dinner. And of course, I brought a few packets of kitkats to take home too whilst I was at it.
The rest of the evening was spent resting, as we needed to be up early the next day for our Mt. Fuji trip.
