Excerpt: From the front of the room, Marshal Nie looks ready to skewer him alive, so Wei Ying plasters on his best smile and turns around instead of bolting right the fuck out of there. “Lan Zhan!” He notes that the other somehow learned to emote even less with his face since they last met two years ago. “It’s been a while!” “Indeed.” Lan Zhan says, bows slightly to him like he did back then, and walks away as if he didn't just use five words to leave Wei Ying with enough shit to process for a year. “You better put together another fucking list.” He hisses to HuaiSang before grabbing a bo staff.

Marshall Robert Singer has one hand resting on his hip, the other gripping the discarded practice pole. Castiel thinks he looks tired. That said, with how the kaiju have been crawling with increasing frequency out of the Breach with every passing week and decimating the cities lining the Pacific, no one can blame the man for that.

Castiel knows there aren't enough Jaegers or Jaeger pilots left to defend the coastline against the monsters—but with his history, he's not getting back into harness. He's never joining his mind with anyone else's. Not again.

“Congratulations. You boys done dancing yet?” Singer demands, thumping the butt of the staff on the ground with blunt, percussive force. “We got work to do.”

“Work?” Castiel asks, frowning.

“Congratulations?” Dean finishes.

“Well, yeah.” The Marshall of North America's last battle-center looks back and forth between them, clearly questioning their intelligence. His lip curls just slightly under his beard—no doubt at their blank expressions. “You’re obviously Drift-compatible, ya idjits.”

okok i took some time to think about this so

Valor Striker:

piloted by two childhood friends who realize theyve been in love for years after their first drift together (well, they realize it during their first battle as theyre fighting a kaiju but it was very cute once they won). i havent thought of names but ones a black girl with an afro (which comes out so smushed from those helmets) and the other is a nicaraguan immigrant (shes got really pretty curly long hair). and they both grew up in Poland because for some reason thats the vibe. or maybe england or scotland not sure.

Jackal Horizon:

brother sister duo, theyre stationed in sydney (or were, until their jaeger got too damaged and the ppdc didnt have the money to fix it up anymore) and are total aussies. their mom was a white redneck (are people called that in australia??) and their dads an indian painter (or sculptor? maybe poet? something artistic). again i dont have names for either but the sisters very butch/tomboy/masc. the brother i feel like is your typical military guy but less of a douche.

Fury Typhoon

Veteran duo who un-retired because the military checked its files on their soldiers and veterans and they were drift compatible, and willing to come back (they both have hero complexes). theyve been married for like ten years, and are some of the most coordinated jaeger pilots in the world. they also dont have the pride problems that a lot of the younger jaeger pilots do.

I’m mythologizing the ideas of Jaegers again.

Imagine your whole life is spent with fighting, but from the *MOMENT YOU WAKE UP* to the moment you fall back asleep, eternally- or you get turned off. All you feel is the love and devotion and fervor of your pilots.

I feel that it would make a god out of anything. The simple worship of life itself born of pain and misery.

I feel that the Jaegers would be the most loving things in the shatterdomes, simply out of principle.
