Qualifying Rounds

After 851 submissions and 346 total schools, submissions are now officially closed. The bracket rounds will consist of 256 schools. All schools that got two or more submissions are guaranteed a place in the bracket rounds. Schools that got only one submission will have to go through qualifying rounds to get to the brackets. There are 214 schools with only one nomination, and 125 available spots in the bracket. Following the qualifiers, schools will be seeded according to the number of submissions they received.

Qualifiers will consist of 43 polls, with each poll containing five possible schools. The polls were created using a randomizer. The two schools with the most votes will immediately advance to the bracket round. The school with the third most votes has a good chance of advancing as well, but not guaranteed. There are 38 spots available for the 43 third place winners. Thus, I'll be eliminating the 4 third place winners with the least number of votes (numbers as opposed to percentages).

(I know this all seems very convoluted, but I am an English major trying to do math, this is about as well as it was ever going to go.)

I'll be posting six polls a day (except for the last day where I'll be spicing it up by posting seven!) Below the cut you can see which polls will be posted each day. If the school you submitted doesn't appear in the qualifiers, then congratulations, that means it got two or more votes and has immediately advanced to the bracket stage.

Critical Yarns - Ashton

(Aka, I got a blending board)

About 190 yards, sport weight

Merino Silk (Ashford Silk Merino Sliver in Avocado) with Gold Firestar

Originally the main yarn (jade with red flecks) this to be a possible pairing with the Fearne yarn I made, so it's like Ashton stole it from her

Also the firestar is a little spiky, like Ashton

Rolled a D4 to figure out how I wanted to ply it, which is why it's a chain ply.

Here is an interesting fact: Chaing Wu (played by actor Aki Aleong) was a mob boss during the Asian Quarter story line. The Wu mob family was headed by Mr. Wu. He was part of a group that oppressed the workers on the waterfront cannery, forcing them to work for near slave wages as well as running an illegal drug running operation. He was also involved in the kidnapping of little Robin Scorpio. Looking for some valuable black pearls, he uses his grandson, Kim to find the girl and take the pearls, which were hidden in her doll. However, Kim was unsuccessful and the pearls end up in the hands of a man known as “The Ancient One”, who exchanges the pearls for cash and the Asian community purchases the cannery.

The Ancient One’s grandson Yank, falls in love with a girl named Jade Soong who is the granddaughter of Mr. Wu. Working with Sean Donnely to bring down Mr. Wu, Yank kills Kim, who had planned to blow up the cannery. Jade is devastated to learn that her lover has killed her brother, but soon forgives him when she learns the depths of her brother and grandfather’s crimes. Mr. Wu goes to jail and Jade and Yank marry, then leave Port Charles. The Asian Quarter storyline fades away.

The Wu Family returns in 2015 at a Mob summit in New York City called by Sonny Corinthos. A representative of the Wu Family named Ms. Wu was present.

Later, in a meeting of The Five Families, the senior member of the Wu family, Selina joins in, representing her families interests. Selina has become quite a presence in Port Charles, and uses her nephew Brad Cooper from time to time, having helped him get out of jail for kidnapping Wiley, Sonny Corinthos’ grandson. She has forged an uneasy truce with Sonny Corinthos and has brokered a deal with Curtis Ashford to run a poker game in the back of his club, The Savoy.

It is unclear as to how exactly Selina and Brad are related to Chaign Wu, but I think it would be fun to see a return of The Asian Quarter.

75 books in 2023. Not bad. I fell into a Julia Quinn hole in Nov/Dec, apparently (I didn't realize how many of her books I read during the Holiday season). I discovered a few new authors I really like. While Silas himself would not label the myriad of twists and turns that filled his days as 'adventures', he is not so jaded that he doesn't understand another's point of view. He takes a drink from his cup of tea for a moment and savors it as he thinks of just how to answer the question. For the briefest of moments, he's reminded of the nights the Ashford children would ask for stories before bed.

"Well," Silas smiles wistfully, memories flooded back to him in a wave of mournful nostalgia. "A few years ago, on a night not unlike this, mu hunting party had found themselves deep within the mines of Phandelver. Miles below the surface, naught but torches to keep us from the inky blackness of a subterranean night. It was unsettling, but not truly shaking. As a fun thought piece what were your other charr mains (or maybe 3 of them if its too many) up to when reality began to unravel, while your Commander fought the Dragonvoid?

With how much I love talking about my ocs I would be more than happy to mention all the mains, in fact a number of them were already in my writing pieces (on FurAffinity)

For the first time in a long time, Marcus is not in fact by Nastazya's side. She demanded him to go back to the Citadel to protect their cubs Vita and Galvar. They get into an argument before Marcus finally relents with them both doing the "I love you, come back for me." thing before he teleports off to Tyria. He ends up losing his right paw during the battle, but the action saved his daughter. That's why he now has a jade tech right hand.

Tonold Cubguider is of course here too, as the cubs Primus. His main act was protecting the cubs alongside other primuses. Vita is a bit chaotic and manages to get away from the group to try help her dad which lead to the last thing.

Chip Ironwelder interestingly is actually fighting alongside his half-sister Nastazya. He and his magister partner Blinnk are assisting with the Void devices with Taimi and Joon. Having tagged along to Cantha on 'Priory business.'

Cali Fellstalk is back with her warband in Ash, she and her warband were out around one of the Ash camps in Ashford monitoring ghost activity. At least the ghosts also decided the Void was an enemy to Ascalon... Made the fight a little easier for them.

Tantalus Locksmith is in Divinity's Reach at the Dead End bar. He narrowly dodges an attack from a formed Voidbeast which smashes his drink due to the avoiding, and then he fills it with lead. Tells the barkeep he's owed another drink for that, before leaving the bar and seeing the chaos. He assists DR for the battle.

Torna Trickeye was back at the Chantry of Secrets when everything went bad, she joined her fellow Whispers agents in defending the order.

Bacchus Barkhide had since found the Olmakhan in his nomadic travels and found his new home. He helps defend Atholma alongside Rox and many others as a druid Lifebinder.

Pyraxus Wrathscald is now a Tribune in New Flame and one of Efram's most trusted. He was dealing with an issue from a Frost Legion Ryland-invoking Revenant who survived and had her targets set on the Imperator. Pagos Rimesteel and he make a very temporary truce to fight off the Void, they both get too injured to fight each other afterwards, Pagos retreats with her life and Pyraxus returns to get treated for his wounds.

Hey! Thank you SO much! I always appreciate the support! :) And yeah, I can definitely tell you about Jade!

So admittedly, Jade was one of many captains that I came up with. I've come up with female and male captains over the last year that I've been playing TOW...and sometime's I even just start the game over with the same captain (I've done a LOT of playthroughs). I've had three other female captains: Lucille, Alli, Jen. I've had two male captains: Marshall and Finn. (More below the cut)

Jade came after Marshall but before Lucille, and she seems to be the one that has stuck with me the most. For the most part, I only write my fics as insert female reader fics, but there have been two or three where I used Jade. When I “designed” Jade (or however you want to say it) I sort of used some of the characteristics from my other female captains and blended them together for Jade.

So now for the part you actually asked for :D

Jade Ashford is in her early 30s (I’ve never given her a definite age) and has bright blonde hair that she keeps just past her shoulders. She has green eyes and PLENTY of freckles across her face. She’s not super tall, but not short by any means. If she can find nail polish, she likes to keep her nails painted because it keeps her nail biting habit at bay since it’s an anxious habit of hers.

Before she was put into hibernation, she was a bartender (I took that detail from Alli) and was thinking about going back to school to get her law degree. One of the reasons she agreed to become a Hope colonist was because she didn’t have any family or real friends outside of her regular customers at the bar.

Her bartending skills stuck with her after the 70 years in stasis and she likes to show them off if presented the opportunity. She almost ALWAYS buys (or snatches, depending on her mood) a bottle of whiskey if she has the chance. She’ll never admit it, but most of the alcohol in Halcyon is better than it was on Earth.

She’s very much an extrovert, and doesn’t mind talking to people. She has a motto for herself (and her crew) that basically says to always try to talk things out before pulling the trigger. Remember I mentioned that she wanted to be a lawyer? Yeah, this woman can argue ALL DAY LONG. She’s very levelheaded, and rarely ever loses her cool. But when she does lose her temper, it is NOT a pretty sight. She’s only lost her shit in front of the crew once, and it was when SAM tried to clean her favorite handgun and completely ruined it. That’s when the crew learned to never, under any circumstances, piss off Captain Jade.

With all this being said, you would think that Jade and Max would NEVER get along. But it’s actually just the opposite. Max adores Jade, and she adores him. It’s been that way since day one. It didn’t take long for them to establish a relationship and he can confidently say she’s the best thing that ever happened to him.

He’s not at all annoyed by her like one would probably expect, and he’s actually finds her positive and easy personality refreshing. Max has a bit of a short temper, and even after his big life changing revelation, he still can easily flip his lid.

He’s learned a LOT about patience from Jade, and why getting angry doesn’t usually solve anything. He admires her bravery and the way she handles things. Watching her be a captain is something he enjoys a lot. On the flip side, he makes sure that he’s always a resource for her, because he’s learned that she keeps her feelings to herself about things. Halcyon is not a pretty place, and he’s always worried about how she deals with it. It’s different when you’re raised in Halcyon and when you’re thrown into it.

Jade likes to take Ellie and Nyoka out drinking on the night before their day off. Ellie and Nyoka are the only ones who can keep up with Jade on the every so often occasions that she does drink. But Nyoka can outdrink any of the crew.

Felix and Parvati are always eager to learn from Jade. Felix is the youngest in the crew, and he often makes the most mistakes. Jade is always understanding with him, using his fuck ups as a way for him to learn and grow. That goes for all of the crew. She’s a huge “learn by experience” kind of gal

Just a few more things about Jade: her favorite color is purple, which is why she has a liiiiiittle bit of a soft spot for any of Rizzo’s products. Every once in a while, she’ll luck out and find an Earth movie that she’ll watch with the crew (and answering every single one of Felix’s questions). The Groundbreaker is her favorite place in Halcyon, despite the fact that it smells like a locker room. She likes to cook breakfast for the crew, and often in nothing but her underwear and one of Max’s shirts. She’s been caught more than once with her hair in a bun on her head and sliding around in her socks.

To wrap things up, Jade is about as spicy and sweet as they come. And even though it wasn’t really her choice, she loves her crew and loves being a captain.
