He had felt sick to his stomach the day Mickey showed up at Terra's doorstep to take him away on this most recent mission . Riku was home alone and Terra was away . He wanted time to say goodbye , time to tell Terra that he'd be back soon . . . Time for Terra to fret over him while making sure he had everything he needed . He got none of that . Instead , he clutched his phone in his hand as he left his home behind , watching it disappear through the window of the gummiship .

Riku looked at Terra's name on the screen of his gummiphone , staring at it for a long time . He typed then erased several sentences because none of them felt right to send to Terra . No matter what he sent , Terra was still going to come home and Riku wouldn't be there . . . there was no going back from that . Mickey kept asking him what was wrong , which Riku shrugged off . The only thing that was wrong was how [ [ g u i l t y ] ] he felt for leaving Terra behind .

[ TEXT : TERRA ] Hey . I'm sorry that I had to leave before saying goodbye . I'll be home soon . I love you <unsent>

Days turned into weeks , and once again Riku tried to send something Terra . Only to , once again , fail at actually pressing the send button .

[ TEXT : TERRA ] Hey . I was told I should be dismissed soon . Not much longer until I come home . I owe you an apology for leaving without saying goodbye . I love you <unsent>

Then those weeks turned into [ [ m o n t h s ] ] until Riku is finally standing on the doorstep of his home . It doesn't even feel like his home anymore , it feels like a completely new place . He missed it . Endlessly. Frankly , he was grateful to be here . There were times when he wasn't sure he would have the chance .

' Riku . . . '

" H-Hey . . . Terra . . . " His voice was hoarse ; timid , almost .

He doesn't let Terra talk , he's too [ [ r e l i e v e d ] ] to see him to allow too many words to come out of his mouth . There was no time for a proper 'hello' , this would be those words . He cupped Terra's cheek to allow himself a moment to believe he's real , and then he's gently pulling Terra down to him . He kissed him tenderly , allowing his heart the time to realize that he truly [ [ w a s ] ] home because home is where Terra is . His free hand clutches at the fabric above Terra's heart , and for the first time in months , when he feels Terra melt into their kiss , he allows himself to breathe .
