READ HERE
Snippet below the cut...
The sun was scorching on Maglor’s bare arms. He’d gotten more sensitive to the heat and cold as the millennia wore on, but the heats and colds had also gotten more extreme, no matter what part of the world they planted themselves in for a decade or two. He and Daeron had both noticed it long before the Atani started talking about it. Daeron (while he was teaching physics, of all things — he claimed the science was little different from music) had pushed for the publication of Eunice Foote’s paper on the warming effects of atmospheric carbon dioxide on the climate. When was that? Over a yén ago, at least. Well, surely these Atani would figure it out soon. It was strange, though, how they seemed to be operating on Eldarin timelines with regard to this one thing.
He knelt down and fit a straw hat on Ivárë’s head.
She tried to shove it off. “No! This hat is so old.”
Maglor sighed and tied it under her chin. “It’s fine. It was handmade, you know, by a good friend of ours.”
“And how long ago did they die?” She pouted.
Taken aback, Maglor’s mouth fell open. When had Giselle died? At least fifty years ago. He supposed that was quite a while ago.
“Lirulinda,” he said, cupping her chin. “You should be more sensitive about dying.”
“Hmph.” She stomped and spun on her heels, kicking her shoes off on her way into the surf.
Maglor sat down on the seawall and watched her splashing in the water. He hadn’t talked to her about the incident at the school yet. Based on the Principal’s report, he could guess what she’d been up to and it was difficult to fault her for it. Using a Song of Power to help her classmates get along. He would never understand how such pure-hearted, kind children kept ending up in his care.

prideboards ♡ nonbinary daeron ♡ art from this picrew
Two children had Tinwelint [Thingol] then, Dairon and Tinúviel, and Tinúviel was a maiden, and the most beautiful of all the maidens of the hidden Elves, and indeed few have been so fair, for her mother was a fay, a daughter of the Gods; but Dairon was then a boy strong and merry, and above all things he delighted to play upon a pipe of reeds or other woodland instruments, and he is named now among the three most magic players of the Elves, and the others are Tinfang Warble and Ivárë who plays beside the sea.

Ivárë, for @yellow-feathered-faerie! (Chosen bc there was already a visual reference lol)
Tumblr media
I messed with her design a little bc there weren't any perfectly suiting tops and also I felt like she deserved a leather jacket. She's wearing sneakers as well- lets say this is her as a young adult in Valinor wearing elv-ish clothes and modern accessories.

A Foreword
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/imD4rny
by Niphredilien (Yellow_Faerie)
Twelve is a lucky number.
Well, that might be an understatement. Three is a lucky number and four is a lucky, and some even consider nine lucky, although it usually with the proviso that it is three sets of three. Seven is decidedly unlucky.
But twelve – well, it’s bigger than all the others but it is also the Awakening number, much like three but…more.
In other words, an introduction to a much bigger AU that I am writing from the perspective of Ivárë, born thousands of years after most of the drama has finished.
Words: 1468, Chapters: 1/2, Language: English
Series: Part 1 of Twelve is a Lucky Number

Fic idea based on this note in the Lays of Beleriand;
In both texts Tinúviel is now explicitly the Elvish word for ‘nightingale’; and Maglor, again in both texts, is the name of one of the three greatest singers of Elfinesse:
he who harps upon the far forgotten beaches and dark shores where western foam for ever roars, Maglor whose voice is like the sea (506-9)
In the rough draft of this passage the name of this minstrel is however Ivárë (though Maglor is written beside it), and Ivárë was named in the Tale of Tinúviel (II. 10), with Tinfang and Dairon, as one of ‘the three most magic players of the Elves', who ‘plays beside the sea’.
...in which Ivárë is this minstrel who has made it her specialty to play music beside the sea. She does sea-side performances, solo communication with the waves/sea-maiar, has built all sorts of Sea-inspired and operated instruments. This is her thing.
And then this Feanorian shows up.
He’s sad, and he’s loud. And also an infamous murderer, as well as a prince; what this means is that it takes approximately two years for the verse to change from  Ivárë whose voice is like the sea to Maglor whose voice is like the sea in local taverns. She absolutely hates it. This is her life’s work! This is her thing.
The usurper generally seems to try to evade her (and his very determined audience), but Ivárë is a good tracker. She knows he’s supposed to be dangerous, but he doesn’t look it now, skeletal beneath his ragged tunic. He can’t use one of his hands. She’ll be fine. This is her territory.
She finds him in front of a lousy campfire, his back to the night. He is humming tunelessly to himself. His dark hair is barely held together in what she supposes he thinks passes for a bun...
Ivárë creeps up behind him, a rope in her hands.

So…do you have any headcanons on Ivárë? Or any of the other minstrels? (I really love them)
Headcanons shorter than intended due to having to catch the train and also my motivation dying midway due to me sweating so much from the heat. I am so sorry Maglor, love you.
Ivárë
of the Laiquendi because they, too, deserve a great minstrel
was taught the flute by Tinfang
youthful appearance and attitude
is often seen singing up in the trees and playing with children
tends to avoid battles, only fights if necessary - strongest weapon is voice which can change the moods of their enemies, make them melancholic, weep, laugh
either: left for Valinor with Ingwë's host after the War of Wrath, deciding to serve Este and Irmo
or: journeyed East, deciding to live among the Wood Elves
Tinfang Warble
loremasters aren't sure he exists and isn't just a fairy tale for children - a fairy tale of a flautist who plays in the night under the stars, of soft enchanting melodies, of goodness and peace and hope; of a minstrel who protects the innocent with his songs
he does, in fact, exist
he is a lesser Maia of Yavanna, but when the Ainur left for Aman, he was one of the rare ones who stayed behind for he loved Arda and wanted to make it whole again with his songs
he spent so much time away from the other Ainur and with elves that he was more an elf than a Maia - to the point where many elves thought he was an elf
strong kinship with all peredhil, whose conflicting nature of two or three kindreds reminded him of himself
because of that, he lived in Doriath for a long time, where he was a great friend to Lúthien and Daeron, as well as Melian whom he knew when the world was young
he spent a few years living with Laiquendi, which was when he taught Ivárë and got the name Tinfang Gelion
he usually doesn't fight in battles, preferring to stay in the background and rekindle the hearts of the warriors with his songs - but if he does fight, he is a terrifying force of nature
he left Doriath after Lúthien's (first) death, deciding to stay with Laiquendi again so he would be near Tol Galen. He visited often with Daeron, Dior adored them both
after Lúthien's (second) death, he bid Dior farewell and journeyed East with Daeron. They parted their ways on the Eastern side of Ered Luin
after spending so many centuries in Arda without any light but the light of the stars, he grew to love them dearly and night was his favourite, even as he loved the day
he turned into a fairy tale mostly due to his mysterious nature and tendency to fade into the background, as well as the many years he spent wandering after the destruction of Beleriand - children all across Middle Earth would hear his songs at night, singing them to sleep
he would still find comfort with peredhil, which was why he often tarried in Rivendell
not a fan of big cities unless they fit into the surrounding nature
his songs are downright enchanting, in a way only an Ainu's songs can be - echoing with Ainulindalë
Daeron
my version is the version where he is Lúthien's brother
flower and stars aesthetic
loves winter and spring
despite popular belief, he prefers lyre over harp, though he mastered both (as well as flute and several other instruments)
he loves history and learning, which is why he constructed Cirth - to preserve knowledge and spread it, even as people forget with time (memories of the Eldar are long, but he was born in Middle Earth - he knows death well)
while he journeyed on the other side of Ered Luin after he failed to find Lúthien, once he learnt she died he went half-mad with grief; and when he felt she is back to life, he came back to his senses and journeyed to find her, teaming up with Tinfang whom he found on the road
he wanted to go to Doriath with Dior, but Doriath brought back far too many memories - which is why he went East with Tinfang again
spent a few centuries pulling a Maglor and singing in grief, except in the forests rather than by the sea
actually, he DID run into Maglor a few times, but by that point, he was past the point of caring. Yeah, he was mad with rage when he first met him, but he got over it and didn't care as long as Maglor didn't bother him
weird minstrel buddy-ship between the two, singing sad songs while ignoring each other's existence. They didn't travel together though
After many years, Daeron ended up in Rivendell, because evidently, that's where all the minstrels and everyone else end up. As the saying goes, all the roads lead to Rome Rivendell
loves blueberries
similar to the minstrels mentioned above, he also loves playing and singing up in the trees
after his sad forest phase but before settling in Rivendell, he would often join wandering folk and sing for them
eldritch half-elf, I would elaborate right now but the train is killing my ability to type. Oh well. Maybe in the future.
Maglor
used to be a snob in his youth
now is a sad beach cryptid
murder crab

in my attempt to think about Daeron more, not being much of a fan of the version in which he’s Lúthien’s brother, I started considering his parentage. and though I’m not into that version, I still think something like a half-maia situation could be interesting
so I kind of landed on Tinfang Gelion, the sprite spirit of early drafts, that is later on, in the Lay of Leithian, reworked into an elf. and I think maybe I could sort of slide back to this guy’s earlier version, and make him Daeron’s father.
also from the early drafts there are other names, Kapalen, Tifanto, Timpinen... the problem being of course that they’re all early-draft Quenya, Qenya, Gnomish, all languages that have nothing to do with Sindarin as he’d speak it. tumblr user galadhremmin helpfully pointed out that there’s a fan-invented version of the word timpinen (which means “fluter”) aka thibinor... so I think I’ll go for Daeron Thibinor
this leaves me with Ivárë, the third named elven musician in Lost Tales 2, whom I kind of want to shoehorn in this story but I don’t know how (Qenya name... maybe an old Tatya.) for that matter I don’t know how to shoehorn in Tinfang Gelion (as father-of-Daeron or otherwise) either, though I really want to. in theory, it’s about how to get Maglor and Daeron to bang in less than 50k without handwaving that Daeron likely wants to hang him from his feet and punch him

Ivárifinwë Filegol Melilot - Daughter of Maglor and Daeron for @tolkienocweek
Daeron reaches out to take Maglor's hand as the ship started to lose any dimension.
"It's alright, we'll see her again in a month.
Maglor worries at his bottom lip. "But sailing to America - that's not a small trip."
"She can do it." Daeron squeezes the hand in his. "She's been sailing for long as she can remember."
Ivárë has a long journey ahead of her and while she will not see her parents for far longer than she had anticipated, she goes with the knowledge of their blessing in her heart.

#bookaddict #bookaddictions #bookstagram #book #books #livrestagram #livres #livre #plaisirs #pleasure #berenandluthien #thelordoftheringstrilogy #thehobbit #thelordoftherings #origins #origines #readingabook #readingismagic #read #translation #traduction https://www.instagram.com/p/By4Xft7I-Ul/?igshid=1n4y9bwa833wl
