"Despite Israel’s fierce military onslaught, Hamas is still standing, if significantly weakened. The offensive has pushed Gaza into a humanitarian crisis, displacing more than 80% of the population and leaving over 1 million people on the brink of starvation. Yet Israel hasn’t presented a postwar vision acceptable to its partners, and cease-fire talks remain at a standstill." ... "Weekly protests against the government have grown and attract thousands. They are rooted in longstanding grievances against Netanyahu — from his political alliances with far-right and ultra-Orthodox parties to his open-ended corruption trial. However, they have drawn new strength from his failure to bring home the hostages....Some hostage families were among the tens of thousands of people who took to the streets this week calling on the government to resign." ... "Michael Milshtein, a former high-ranking Israeli military intelligence officer who is now an expert in Palestinian studies at Tel Aviv University, says...expectations that the Israeli military’s current approach can destroy Hamas or force it to surrender is “wishful thinking.” ... Ofer Shelah, a former lawmaker who is now a senior researcher at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, said the battlefield successes are “almost meaningless” without a diplomatic vision.
“The real threat to Hamas will not be Israeli tanks or warplanes. It’s an alternative to running life in postwar Gaza.”"

AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS
Mischaracterization of "From the River to the Sea" Slogan as Antisemitic
161 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!
Dear President Biden and Members of Congress,
I am writing to address the recent resolution passed on April 16th, by the House condemning the slogan "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free" as antisemitic. As someone deeply committed to promoting understanding and combating prejudice, I feel compelled to offer clarification on the misinterpretation of this slogan.
The slogan "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free" is deeply rooted in the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and freedom from occupation. Contrary to the characterization of the slogan as antisemitic, its primary aim is to advocate for the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people, who have endured decades of dispossession, displacement, and denial of their basic human rights.
At its core, the slogan calls for the realization of the Palestinian right to statehood and sovereignty within the borders delineated by the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a powerful expression of the Palestinian people's aspirations for justice, equality, and the right to live free from oppression and discrimination.
It is essential to recognize that advocating for Palestinian rights and supporting the slogan "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free" does not equate to antisemitism. Criticizing the policies of the Israeli government or expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause should not be conflated with hatred or prejudice towards Jewish people.
As highlighted in Al Jazeera's article, the slogan has historical significance and resonates deeply with Palestinians worldwide as a symbol of resistance against occupation and injustice. To dismiss it as antisemitic is not only inaccurate but also undermines the legitimate grievances of the Palestinian people and stifles meaningful dialogue and reconciliation in the pursuit of a just and lasting peace in the region.
I urge you and your colleagues to engage in informed and nuanced discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, recognizing the complexities and diverse perspectives involved. It is through dialogue, empathy, and mutual understanding that we can work towards a future where all people in the region can live in dignity, security, and peace.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this perspective. I remain hopeful that together, we can contribute to a more just and inclusive world for all.

Perceptions of the Arab and Muslim World towards the US in the Aftermath of Israel's Bombing of Gaza
The recent merciless bombing of Gaza by Israel has sparked waves of concern, outrage, and sympathy across the global community. In the Arab and Muslim world, where the conflict resonates deeply on religious, cultural, and political levels, the repercussions of this devastating event have shaped perceptions towards the United States. It is important to note that the views within the Arab and…

What was not expected—but StandWithUs recently discovered and exposed—is that some of the most prominent U.S. law firms have been, likely unknowingly, providing some of these same student groups with financial support. For instance, four of the student groups that adopted the antisemitic bylaw at Berkeley—the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA), Law Students of African Descent (LSAD), the Middle Eastern and North African Law Students Association (MENALSA), and the Womxn of Color Collective (WOCC)—publicly list some of the nation's most distinguished law firms as their financial sponsors. Thelist includes: Latham & Watkins; Covington & Burling; Debevoise & Plimpton; Morrison Foerster; Skadden, Arps; Munger Tolles; Wachtell Lipton; and Weil, Gotshal, among others.
Some of the firms sponsoring these groups were founded as havens for Jewish lawyers who could not gain entry as Jewish applicants at more "white shoe" firms. One wonders whether Jewish partners at these law firms know that they are now sponsoring decidedly anti-Jewish agendas at law schools. While these law firms have likely (indeed, hopefully) been sponsoring these groups in good faith, one assumes that they were ignorant of their recently declared antisemitic agenda. One also wonders whether the firms will now take the appropriate steps of clearly condemning the anti-Jewish bigotry and dissociating themselves from these student groups and their bigotry.

Karen Lehrman Bloch argues that ‘Palestinianism’ seeks to eradicate over 3000 years of Jewish history with anti-Semitic distortions and libels about the Israeli-Arab conflict. She also reports on the ‘Mapping Project’, which amounts to little more than anti-Semitic incitement against Jews allegedly ‘connected’ to a barrel of ‘-isms’ in American society... simply because they are Zionist organisations. Clear proof that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism.

My Israel/Palestine Learning Curve Is a Zigzag
Part 1: My Moroccan-Israeli family I am the child of a family of Moroccan Jewish refugees who found refuge in Israel. My mom was 16 on the day in 1956 when her entire life in Morocco abruptly ended — the day that her father was tipped off by an Arab friend that he was marked for death by the Moroccan liberation fighters (who were trying to oust their French colonizers) because he was discovered…

Saint Levant Signs His Political Message 'From Gaza, With Love' Marwan Abdelhamid, the 22-year-old trilingual singer who records as Saint Levant (French for “holy rising”), released his debut EP From Gaza, With Love earlier this month. You may know the young artist from a viral snippet on TikTok that caught the attention of nearly 14 million viewers. The sultry rap clip features his 2022 single “Very Few Friends” and its seductive, baritone hook: "I wanna take you to Paris and spoil you," transforming Saint Levant's muscle-tank-and-mustached brand into one that relied heavily on sex symbols, both visually and sonically. Saint Levant, a child of the Palestinian diaspora, set out to prove that his artistic identity encompasses more than the flesh and blood carnality of his fans' favorite TikToks. "From Gaza, With Love is an ode to the place where I spent the first seven years of my life, a beautiful city by the sea filled with love, memories and unfortunately great pain, suffering and oppression," Abdelhamid tells PAPER.As the son of a French-Algerian mother and a Palestinian-Serbian father, the Gen-Z heartthrob spent his early childhood in Gaza before fleeing to Jordan with his family. He explains: "We are much more than the dehumanizing images you see in Western media. This song is a message to the world, and I sign it with love."Drawing on early-2000s R&B, Arabic trap music and Franco-Arabic rap, Saint Levant's title track "From Gaza, With Love" is a heartfelt homage to his culture with danceable, Middle Eastern flair that infuses the hook and song's thesis — “I came from Gaza with love/ (But I’d feel like a tourist if I ever went back)" — with multicultural soul. The project uses the chameleonic powers of his trilingual upbringing — having spoken English at school, French at home and Arabic in a Palestinian refugee camp — to invite global listeners to embrace the sensuous riches of his Middle Eastern culture. While advocating for Israeli-Palestinian peace has situated him at times within the sticky, no-win arena of public controversy, Abdelhamid invariably handles his politics with love and empathy. Abdelhamid doesn't shy away from imbuing his art with a political message. Check out the PAPER premiere of the "From Gaza, With Love" music video below, where Saint Levant serenades his viewers against a backdrop reminiscent of 1980s public access television. A mass grave was discovered at al-Shifa Medical Complex after a deadly Israeli assault last month left the Gaza City hospital in ruins. Several bodies were found Monday in the hospital’s courtyard, including at least one person wearing underwear who appeared to have been “executed recently” according to an Al Jazeera Arabic reporter at the scene. After Israeli forces withdrew from the hospital on 1 April, teams from several government ministries were deployed to al-Shifa to remove and identify bodies. The searches were initiated after survivors said they witnessed the summary execution of Palestinians by Israeli forces during the two-week raid that started in mid-March.

Why isn't desperately needed aid reaching Palestinians in Gaza?
"United Nations agencies and aid groups say the ongoing hostilities, the Israeli military's refusal to facilitate deliveries and the breakdown of order inside Gaza make it increasingly difficult to bring vital aid to much of the coastal enclave.
The World Food Program said Tuesday it has paused food deliveries to isolated northern Gaza, where the UN children’s agency says one in six children are acutely malnourished. A UN report in December found that a quarter of Gaza's 2.3 million people are starving. ... Hollingworth described the halt as a “temporary pause” and said the WFP was talking to “all the parties” to resume aid shipments. "We have to flood the area with assistance, if we’re going to mitigate and stop a famine,” he said."
"Once aid trucks enter Gaza, there's often not much further they can go. Israel has isolated northern Gaza since the opening days of the ground offensive in late October after ordering its population to flee to the south. Tens of thousands of people remained there, despite the flattening of entire neighborhoods and severe shortages of food and water.
Aid groups say the Israeli military often denies their requests to access northern Gaza, and that even when it is granted, little protection is provided.
The drive from southern Rafah to Gaza City, in the north, used to take around 45 minutes. It now takes several hours because of ongoing hostilities and roads that have been damaged, blocked or closed by the army."

However, this was very limited progress in comparison with the Jewish society – a disparity which mainstream Israeli sociologists pinned on the nature of the Arab minority and which critical sociologists later on would blame on Israel’s discriminatory policies. Like colonialist powers before them, the Israeli politicians and officials expected that this limited modernization would satisfy the Palestinian minority, but it did not. The undeniable improvement in the community’s standard of living was judged by the Palestinians not according to past realities, but according to how they fared in comparison to the Jewish members of the society, and that exercise ended in great dismay and outrage. Not all of the complex realities of the Palestinian society can or should be attributed to Israeli policy. This was a society in a Middle East that was transforming slowly and dialectically from the old world of Ottoman rule and traditional values into an age of nationalism and global capitalism. And, as elsewhere in the Middle East, old social patterns still affected life, even in places where brutal modern policies from above were trying to eradicate them, as was case in Ataturk’s Turkey and in the Shah’s Iran.

Israeli aircraft conducted strikes early Tuesday on Islamic Jihad targets in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military said, and the group said three senior commanders were killed in the attacks.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said a number of people were killed and injured in the airstrikes. It did not elaborate. The Israeli military said the aerial bombings were directed at the residences of three senior commanders of the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad group.
Witnesses said an explosion hit the top floor of an apartment building in Gaza City and a house in the southern city of Rafah. Airstrikes continued in the early hours, targeting militant training sites.
The Israeli army said the aerial bombings, codenamed “Operation Shield and Arrow," targeted Khalil Bahtini, the Islamic Jihad commander for northern Gaza Strip; Tareq Izzeldeen, the group's intermediary between its Gaza and West Bank members; and Jehad Ghanam, the secretary of the Islamic Jihad's military council. It added the three were responsible for recent rocket fire toward Israel.
