#cathleen nihoulhan i am looking directly at u #mad stuff altogether #like there are reasons for this #the first of course being that colonial literature feminised the countries they colonise and the native people to present them as weak #and therefore in need of colonisation #but this also served nationalist interests #Ireland is both the beautiful young maiden in need of rescue from the colonising power #but also the loving mother who is willing to sacrifice her sons for her freedom #but either way the women themselves do not get a voice #which is - surprise surprise - reflected in the history of Irish politics #irish literature #daisies.txt
