The U.S. still has the lowest covid-19 vaccination rate among wealthy countries.

The U.S. has surpassed 1 million deaths from covid-19, the worst death toll in the world, according to a tally from NBC News. The grim milestone comes as U.S. covid-19 cases have started to climb in recent days and high-profile figures test positive, like Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
After the U.S., the highest death tolls from covid-19 are in Brazil, which has reported over 663,000 deaths, India, which has seen over 523,000 deaths, and Russia, which has recorded more than 368,000 deaths from covid-19. Mexico rounds out the top five, with over 324,000 deaths from the disease.
The U.S., like many countries, has struggled to fight misinformation about the covid-19 vaccinations that have proved to be a life-saver for so many people who’ve gotten the jab. Conspiracy theories about widespread illness from the vaccines and even nonsense about injecting microchips is shockingly widespread on the internet.
The U.S. is ranked 63rd in the world for covid-19 vaccinations, with just 66.75% of the population fully vaccinated, according to Johns Hopkins University. That puts the U.S. behind Sri Lanka (67.48%), Laos (67.5%), and Iran (68.55%), just to name a few.
Covid-19 infections have begun to climb again in the U.S., with 119,865 new cases on Wednesday and just 43 of the 50 states reporting. The country also reported 767 new deaths on Wednesday. BNO reports 17,802 Americans are currently in the hospital with covid-19, up 757 from the day before.
While the U.S. has the highest official death toll from covid-19 of any place in the world, other countries have had worse fatality rates relative to population size. Peru, for instance, has reported 212,000 deaths, but that’s 645 deaths per 100,000 people. The U.S. has a rate of roughly 302 deaths per 100,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins University. But those numbers will be cold comfort to any of the 1 million Americans who’ve died—and that figure may well be an undercount.

Buzzsumo Fact Check
While searching for viral articles ono Buzzsumo, the one with the highest virality rates related to Covid-19 is entitled, “Nipah Virus Outbreak: Mortality Rate 40-70%, 20 Times More Deadly Than COVID,” by NP (News Point) English. The article has around 98,600 engagements on Facebook. 
The first claim made in the article is a paraphrase allegedly from the director of the Indian Council of Medical Research, [Rajiv] Bahl, stating that the Nipah virus has a fatality rate “ranging from 40% to 70%.”

First, I wanted to confirm the legitimacy of the quoted figure. After searching Bahl’s name and the referenced facility, I did find via an official Indian Government state website that he is indeed the Director General of the ICMR, although the article spells his name incorrectly.
Further, I looked into the article’s claim that Nipah has a fatality rate between forty and seventy percent, allegedly far higher than that of Covid-19. In doing so, I did find several news videos of Bahl stating that “if COVID had a mortality of two to three percent, Nipah has forty to seventy percent, [which is] extremely high.” He elaborates that this is evidenced from reported cases.
According to the World Health Organization, the overall Nipah fatality rate is indeed “between 40% and 100%”  in countries like “Bangladesh, Malaysia, India and Singapore.” The referenced outbreak, which occurred in Kerala, India, resulted in six infections and two deaths according to the WHO. This yields 2/6, or roughly 33%, but this only accounts for a specific outbreak in Kerala; given that the low-end of the average mortality rate  is less than ten percent from this figure, it is safe to assume that Bahl’s estimates are well-researched (and confirmed via the WHO).
That said, diverting to the World Health Organization’s metric for Nipah mortality notes a thirty percent increase in the factor Bahl provided. Both he and the News Point article were correct in stating that there is at least a forty percent mortality rate, but the upper boundary is higher, and unfortunately reaches one hundred percent. 
Furthermore, the News Point article notes that the Government of India plans “to acquire 20 new doses of monoclonal antibody treatment from Australia” in order to help fight infection. I did find confirmation of this fact in several other news outlets, such as The Hindu, a trusted news organization in India.
As this was the last major claim made in the article that was not a direct quote from Bahl, the final action for me to take was to attempt to verify the overall legitimacy of the news site. Despite the fact that this article seems to pass my own fact-checking, it doesn’t hurt to understand the context of the outlet.
Checking ICANN WHOIS, it seems that News Point is registered in Canada, yet has most of its administrative information removed or obstructed from view within the database. However, there seems to be a legitimate registrar and contact information.

Furthermore, searching for mentions of the site with the site itself excluded, I found that News Point is an Indian news outlet, not Canadian. It has its own Linkedin page, and other search results yield what seem to be bot analytics. However, there are no mentions of the site being disreputable.

Although I’m unsure why the domain is registered to Canada, this particular article by News Point kind of passes a fact-check, and there is no significant evidence that the site itself is unreliable. My only note is that the article's mortality rate figure was incorrect, but the author was only reporting on a direct quote from Director Bahl, so despite conflicting information from the WHO, the article did not misquote its (otherwise reliable) source. However, it could also be said that the outlet could have gone further to fact-check Bahl beyond simply quoting his press conference, so my conclusion is that it is a kind-of-pass.

2,000 Athletes Had Fatal Heart Attacks Since Jab Rollout – Media Blackout

Since the jab rollout the number of athletes dropping dead from heart problems has soared to unprecedented levels.
These professional athletes are supposed to be among the fittest people on the planet. So why have thousands of them in the past two and a half years suddenly collapsed with inexplicable heart conditions? 
Since early 2021, at least 1,884 cardiac arrests or other serious issues have been officially recorded among athletes. 1,310 of those athletes died suddenly. The unofficial number is likely much higher than that.
An ethical media would be highlighting these deaths on the front-pages, pulling out all the stops to investigate just what was going on. We live in a very different world now.
Good Sciencing has been maintaining a continuously growing list of the young, healthy athletes who suffered major heart-related emergencies in 2021, 2022, and the first half of 2023.
According to the publication, all of the athletes on the list share one common factor: They suffered sudden serious heart problems after receiving the toxic mRNA COVID jab.
Slaynews.com reports: As of April 2023, Good Sciencing had recorded 1,884 athlete cardiac arrests or serious issues since January 2021.
There are another 55 cases that Good Sciencing is still investigating or awaiting further information.
Good Sciencing has yet to record and investigate more recent incidents such as the four New Zealand rugby players.
These four rugby players, reported by the New Zealand Herald last week, are also an addition to Mark Crispin Miller’s list.
Since January 2022, Crispin Miller has been recording “died suddenly” cases worldwide that are reported in corporate media in a particular week, according to The Exposé.
In his latest compilation, he recorded 57 New Zealanders who were reported as unexpectedly or suddenly losing their lives between 19 and 26 June.
It’s important to note that Crispin Miller makes no attempt to investigate whether the incident is related to Covid shots.
The list merely records relevant details as stated in news reports.
For example, a man in Auckland died after suffering a medical event while in police custody.
Last Saturday, a man was taken into custody for unlawful interference with a vehicle.
“The man was transported to the Auckland District Custody Unit, however, on arrival officers became concerned for the man’s welfare as he appeared to be suffering a medical event,” police said.
Officers immediately transported the man to hospital but he passed away a short time later. “No age or cause of death reported,” Crispin Miller noted.
In another tragic incident noted by Crispin Miller, a class 12 student of a school in Kolkata, India, died after collapsing on the campus.
The girl suddenly collapsed after the assembly session around 9.30 am.
“She was then attended by the school doctor who found her pulse rate to be very low,” a police officer said.
“She was declared brought dead when taken to the nearby Belle Vue Clinic.”
A case was lodged in connection with the death and the body was sent for post-mortem.
“It’s still not known whether the girl was suffering from any illness,” the officer said.
“It seems that she died of a cardiac arrest, but the exact reason behind her death could be known only after the completion of the post-mortem.”
In Ukraine, a lawyer was killed in a “vaxxident” when he suddenly died at the wheel.
According to local Telegram communities, an uncontrolled car rammed several parked cars in Odessa.
The deceased is a high-ranking law enforcement officer of the city R. Bershavsky.
No age or cause of death was reported.
In Russia, theatre and cinema actor Mikhail Lozhkin, died suddenly at the age of 36.
The cause of death was not noted.
In Belgium, two soccer players “died suddenly.”
Former soccer player and ex-Red Devil Cédric Roussel passed away on Saturday at the age of 45.
He collapsed on a terrace in Bergen on Saturday, first aid was of no avail.
And Stéphane Demol, the former defender, died following a heart attack.
He was aged 57.
In Germany, on 21 June a truck driver was found dead in his cab.

Covid: India reports 7,178 new Covid cases in last 24 hours | India Newsindia
NEW DELHI: India reported 7,178 new coronavirus infections, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Monday. The active cases have dipped after 69 days and now stand at 65,683. The death toll has increased to 5,31,345 with 16 deaths, which includes eight reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 9.16 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was pegged at 5.41 per cent. The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.48 crore. The active cases now comprise 0.15 per cent of the total infections and the national Covid-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.67 per cent, the ministry said. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,43, 01,865 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Covid and Influenza cases are increasing in the country at a rapid rate. On Wednesday, PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the spike in the cases.
During the meeting, the prime minister urged healthcare providers and governments to maintain a strict vigil against covid-19. He also asserted the importance of genome sequencing at this time and said that it should be done more. Addressing to the meeting members, Modi also said that the Covid situation is ‘far from over.’
The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday stated that India recorded 1,134 new Covid cases, while the active cases increased to 7,026.  The situation is continually getting worse.
The meeting was held to brief the Prime Minister about the rising Covid cases in the country and to update that the average daily cases are 888 and weekly positivity was reported as 0.98 percent in the week ending March 22.
Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Kerala have registered one death each which increased the total number of deaths due to Covid to 5,30,813.
Maharashtra remains at the top of the Covid-19 spread as the state recorded 334 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday. The total number of COVID-infected people in Maharashtra has now reached 1648 with one fatality recorded.
The Prime Minister asked people to follow Coronavirus safety protocol and maintain respiratory hygiene. He urged them to follow appropriate behavior in crowded places.

The true global death toll of Covid-19 remains difficult to nail down three years after the first case was detected, though experts agree there have been far more fatalities than officially reported. The difference between the official and real figures could diverge even further next year, with modelling predicting more than a million deaths in post-zero-Covid China, which recently narrowed how it counts fatalities. There have been more than 6.65 million officially reported Covid deaths since the virus was first identified in China in December 2019, according to the World Health Organization. However countries count Covid deaths differently and methods have changed throughout the pandemic. Attributing deaths to Covid can be a very difficult exercise, said Antoine Flahault, director of the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva. The death of a patient in a hospital in a developed country who had already been diagnosed with Covid could be straightforward but that is often not the case and doctors “usually do no have much information” to guide them, Flahault told AFP. Instead researchers have sought to compare the total number of deaths from all causes recorded since 2020 to what would have been expected if there had been no pandemic. Using these figures, researchers from the WHO reported in the journal Nature earlier this month that there were 14.83 million excess deaths from Covid in 2020 and 2021, updating a figure first released in May. That is nearly three times higher than the 5.4 million officially reported Covid deaths over those two years. Research from the US-based Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation estimated in March that the number was an even higher 18.2 million. But Flahault said that even these figures could “perhaps still be an underestimate”. The toll has risen more slowly this year. A regularly updated tally from The Economist estimates that there have been 21 million excess deaths since the pandemic’s start — 3.1 times higher than the official number. – Lacking data – According to the WHO figures, India had by far the most excess deaths linked to Covid in 2020-2021 with 4.74 million, a figure the Indian government has sharply disputed. Russia came next with a little over one million. However the biggest disparities between the expected number of deaths and the actual figure were in South America. Peru, for example, recorded around twice as many total deaths in 2020-2021 as it had in normal times. However Hanno Ulmer of Austria’s Medical University of Innsbruck pointed out that there were “also strong dengue fever outbreaks during the pandemic years in Peru”, which could have increased the number of excess deaths without being linked to Covid. Another problem is that many nations have little or no data in the first place. “For almost half the countries of the world, tracking excess mortality is not possible using the data that are available and for these we must rely on statistical models,” the WHO researchers wrote in this month’s study. In Africa, monthly data on deaths was only available for six out of 47 countries. – A million deaths in China – Looking forward to 2023, China’s lifting of its zero-Covid measures loom large as a possible source of new deaths. With the first easing of strict measures in place the start of the pandemic, few of China’s 1.4 billion population have immunity from previous Covid infection, and vaccination rates have lagged, particularly among the at-risk elderly. Modelling by the IHME predicts more than 300,000 Covid deaths in China by April 1 — and a total of over a million across 2023. Last week China reclassified what it considers to be Covid deaths, which will now only count if they come directly from respiratory failure, in a move that analysts say will dramatically the number of officially recognised deaths. Hospitals across China have been overwhelmed by an explosion of infections in recent weeks but just one new death was added on Thursday to a tally by a national disease control body.
Ali Mokdad, a professor of health metrics sciences at IHME, told AFP that good data was the only way “we can manage to stay ahead of the virus”.
