MARVEL ANIMATION PROJECTS FROM SDCC
I am groot
This series will premiere agust 10th and will consist of 5 shorts centered around groot (duh)
From the trailer, it looks like a comedy series with a light-hearted plot, so probably no real threat present.
It will likely be soft-canon: the series will take place in the main MCU timeline but none of the events will matter/be adressed in the future
What if...?
What if season 2 has been confirmed as part of phase 5
It will be streaming early 2023
Some of the scenarios have been announced: a story centered around Hela, Odin vs The Mandarin, Captain Carter meeting the winter soldier (most likely the Hydrastomper seen in s1 will contain a winter soldier version of Steve), tony on Saakar with Hulk and Valkyrie (scrapped episode from s1)
We dont know it the multversal teamup at the end of season 1 will be adressed, nor if the Watcher will return (although the latter seems likely)
A third season has already been confirmed
Spiderman Freshman Year
Previously confirmed by Marvel as a prequel to homecoming, however that seemed to change given that Strange and Dock Ock will appear, while peter never saw them before the Spidey/Avengers movies
It might span across the multiverse and give us a look at different spidermans, with only a few episodes centered around Tom Holland's Spidey (this could explain how so many characters will appear while still being a prequel to Homecoming)
Many spider suits will appear, including a homemade one
Doctor strange will appear
Daredevil will appear in his black suit (Voiced by Charlie Cox!!!!)
Harry Osborn (possible Hobgoblin) and Amadeus Cho ( possible Hulk variant) will appear as Peter's friends
Nico Minoru should appear (in the comic, she is a magic wielding Runaway)
Many iconic Spider-Man villains will appear: Doc Ock, Rhino, Speed Demon, Tarantula and Scoprion (we might find out why scorpion was in jail in the Homecoming post credit scene)
Norman Osborn will appear with his iconic waves, it is unclear wether he will become Green Goblin. It is rumored that he will be Peter's mentor (in a Tony Stark-esque way as a shot of him and Aunt May mirrors the first time Peter met Tony in the Mcu)
The characters and drawing style are comic accurate (including Norman Osborn's waves!!!)
A second season called Spider-Man: Sophomore Year is already confirmed
Marvel Zombies
Inspired why the zombie episode in What if season one, it will follow a group of survivors fighting through a zombie apocalypse (duh)
The series will be TV-MA (!!!!!!!)
Among the survivors we can find: Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Jimmy Woo, Shang-Chi, Kamala Khan, Death dealer (the masked guy from Shang-Chi), Red Guardian and Katy Chen ( also from Shang-Chi)
Other groups of survivors include an all-female group of SHIELD agents and black widows, as well as a group of skrulls
Amongst the zombies we can find: Ikaris (although it is uncleat how an eternal that is not organic can become a zombie), Abomination, A severed captain America, Okoye, Ghost, hawkeye with many arrows shot trough him, Captain Carter and the Scarlet Witch (Lmfao they are fucked going up agains these zombies)
It is unclear wether the events of what if take place in the same universe, although captain America does appear cut in half, so we dont know if well see the group of survivors from what if (Tchalla, Scott Lang's head and Peter Parker with the cloak of levitation) as well as Zombie Thanos with the infinty stones
Expect horror moments especially with ghost's ability to go through walls, as well as splatter moments
Oh and also hearbreaking moments between Kate and Yelena, and Shang-Chi and Katy when one of them gets zombified (Marvel you will pay for my therapy sessions)
Also moments between Kate and Kamala and Zombie Carol and Clint

Upcoming Marvel Movies Release Dates: MCU Phase 4 Schedule, Cast, and Story Details
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
A bold new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2021 on Disney+ with the wildly successful WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but Marvel Studios certainly hasn’t been resting on its laurels in terms of upcoming cinematic blockbusters. Not only does it have Black Widow (finally) ready for theatrical release, but we’ve also got Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all in various stages of production, there are also TV series on the way for the likes of Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and more!
Well, if you’ve been a little confused by Marvel’s shifting dates and streaming priorities, never fear! We’ve got a comprehensive release calendar for you here detailing all the forthcoming MCU projects, so you’ll always be able to find the latest updates when you need them.
Let’s take a look at everything Marvel has in store over the next few years…
Loki
Release Date: June 9, 2021
Tom Hiddleston will reprise his most famous role, as Loki finds himself on a heist through time and space “as he steps out of his brother’s shadow” after the events of Avengers: Endgame! Oh, and based on this trailer, there’s all kinds of time-travelling weirdness awaiting, including the return of Heimdall, some other Asgardian hijinks, DB Cooper (yes!), Owen Wilson playing an obscure character based on a beloved Marvel Comics writer, and…Loki possibly running for President!
Tom Hiddleston stars, of course, and the cast also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. Michael Waldron is head writer and Kate Herron is directing.
Black Widow
Release Date: In theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access Friday, July 9, 2021
The Black Widow movie was heading for a May 1, 2020 release before the pandemic, but Disney and Marvel decided to delay it until the industry’s infrastructure was back to some semblance of normal. They seemed absolutely committed to keeping Natasha on a theatrical release rather than sending her to Disney+, but eventually semi-caved in March as it was confirmed that Black Widow would hit both streaming and theaters simultaneously in July.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”
Cate Shortland directed the film, and Scarlett Johansson stars, with Florence Pugh and David Harbour alongside her. One of the movie’s villains is Taskmaster, and we wrote a little bit more about him right here.
Natasha Romanoff will get a prequel movie of sorts here, as we catch up with Widow right around the events of Captain America: Civil War. Will the plot affect her character’s ultimate fate in Endgame? Do not count on it.
What If…?
Release Date: Summer 2021
The beloved comic book series that tells tales of how things might have turned out differently in the Marvel Universe is becoming an animated series on Disney+!
Here’s the official synopsis:
“What If…? flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways…Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles.”
We know that at least a couple of these roles include Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa as well as the return of Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter!
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Release Date: September 3, 2021
Simu Liu has been cast as the titular Shang-Chi and Tony Leung as The Mandarin (hey, that name sounds familiar! But this time, we’re getting the real Mandarin on screen). Destin Daniel Cretton is directing from a script by Dave Callaham. Given its “Ten Rings” title, Shang-Chi should be steeped in Marvel lore, going all the way back to the first Iron Man film!
Hopefully this will be Marvel’s most action-packed movie yet. The trailer sure makes us think so.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Release Date: September 17, 2021
Andy Serkis (Mowgli) steps behind the camera for Venom 2, which now boasts the catchy title of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The first film, buoyed by a terrific showing at the Chinese box office, made an absolute ton of money, despite being released to mostly scathing reviews.
Venom: Let There be Carnage will follow up Sony’s 2018 Spider-Man-less spinoff film, but will likely be more connected to the MCU this time around, thanks to a renewed deal between the company and its Marvel Studios partners. Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, of course, and as you can probably guess from that title, he’ll be facing off against Woody Harrelson’s villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage!
We wrote about all the cool Marvel stuff happening in the above trailer right here.
The Eternals
Release Date: Nov. 5, 2021
Acclaimed Nomadland helmer (and Oscar winner!) Chloe Zhao is directing Marvel’s Eternals from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Marvel described the film as an “epic story, spanning thousands of years” that features “a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants.”
The cast features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight. We meet all these characters in the trailer, which we wrote more about here.
This one was another victim of the release date shuffle, but we’ll finally get to see Jack Kirby‘s wildest creations soon enough!
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Release Date: Dec. 17, 2021
The next Spider-Man movie looks like a big one! Spider-Man: No Way Home will once again take place in the MCU since Marvel and Sony solved their differences, good sense prevailed, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will remain a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This one, well…this might be a live action Spider-Verse movie from the sound of it. Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro from the maligned Amazing Spider-Man films and Alfred Molina will return from the Raimi era as Doctor Octopus.
Wait. Are they trying to make this a multiversal Sinister Six movie? Because…we could be down for that.
Hawkeye
Release Date: Late 2021
Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton to train his replacement as Hawkeye, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop! Apparently based on the brilliant run of comics by Matt Fraction and David Aja, Hawkeye will also prominently feature Lucky the Pizza Dog, one of the great canines in Marvel Comics history.
The cast also includes Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Fra Fee as Kazimerz Kazimierczak, Tony Dalton as Jack “Swordsman” Duquesne, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Alaqua Cox as Maya “Echo” Lopez, and Zahn McClarnon as Willie Lincoln. We wrote more about all these new characters here.
Ms. Marvel
Release Date: Late 2021
Ms. Marvel is finally coming to live action! Here’s the official synopsis for the series…
“Ms. Marvel introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. “A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?”
The cast includes Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
This is going to be a big one, folks, because Kamala is going to be a significant player in Captain Marvel 2. How significant? The title of the movie is now The Marvels!
Morbius
Release Date: January 21, 2022
Spider-Man spinoff Morbius is Sony’s next big Marvel wild card, and it’ll officially be the first spinoff to properly connect to the MCU (even if Marvel Studios still isn’t officially acknowledging it in their own promotional materials the way they are with Spider-Man: No Way Home). Here’s the official synopsis for the film…
“Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.”
Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa directs from a script by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Jared Leto stars as the vampiric title character, and the cast also includes Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
Read more about the character of Michael Morbius here.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release Date: March 25, 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it will open up the storytelling possibilities in the MCU like never before. And that’s just based on the name alone. Scott Derrickson was scheduled to direct, but bowed out because of “creative differences” with Marvel. But the good news is that Marvel found a suitable replacement in none other than Sam Raimi, who of course has plenty of superhero experience thanks to his Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s!
This one has loads of connections to the wider MCU. Elizabeth Olsen will be here as Wanda Maximoff post-WandaVision, and the film will also connect to Spider-Man: No Way Home and its own multiversal ambitions. There are also a few rumors doing the rounds that Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo could be introduced in this sequel. We’ll keep an eye on that and update this if there’s any substance to them.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date: May 6, 2022
Taika Waititi, who gave us the delightful Thor: Ragnarok, will return to write and direct. Chris Hemsworth will be back. Natalie Portman is your new Thor (yes, you read that right, Jane Foster will wield the hammer…just as she did in the comics!). Christian Bale has also joined the cast as the terrifying Gorr the God Butcher. Not only that, this movie will finally put Olympians in the MCU with Russell Crowe as Zeus. Can Hercules be far behind?
Oh, and did we mention that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be along for the ride, too?
Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever
Release Date: July 8, 2022
Black Panther 2 is now called Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel has made it official that after the tragic, untimely death of Chadwick Boseman they have no intention of recasting the role of T’Challa, which is absolutely the right move.
Ryan Coogler will return as director, but there are no other details currently available. Interestingly, Coogler is also bringing a Wakanda TV series to Disney+ at some point in the future, too, and something tells us this Wakanda-centric title for the sequel is a sign of things to come.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel
Release Date: October 7, 2022
Is it technically an MCU movie? Nope. But with all the legal weirdness going on between Marvel and Sony, and this franchise’s very multiversal concept, who’s really to say that it ISN’T an MCU movie either, right? In any case, the sequel to the best Spider-Man movie of all time is coming in 2022 with Avatar: The Last Airbender mastermind Joaquim Dos Santos directing and David Callaham writing.
There’s also an “untitled Marvel movie” still technically scheduled for this date but…that is almost certainly not gonna happen now. Expect whatever that project was to move to one of these below dates or to some other currently unspecified date on the calendar.
Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels
Release Date: November 11, 2022
WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell has been tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel 2, which now boasts the title of The Marvels. You know what else is really cool? Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta will direct!
We have no idea where we’ll find Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in the sequel to her hugely successful first standalone MCU entry. Will she be fighting to loosen her former Kree pals’ iron grip on a pre-Avengers galaxy? Or will the follow up film see her fighting for justice in the present?
In any case, we know that she’ll be facing off with Zawe Ashton as a currently-unnamed antagonist, and WandaVision‘s Monica Lambeau (Teyonah Parris) will also return in her superpowered state after the events of that game-changing show. Considering that Monica was once known as “Captain Marvel” in the comics, that title of The Marvels becomes more appropriate. And even MORE appropriate when you realize that Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, will also be making her big screen debut.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Release date: Feb. 17, 2023
Peyton Reed will return to direct the third installment of the Ant-Man saga, making him the first director in MCU history to complete a trilogy…perhaps the most unlikely trilogy in Marvel’s entire arsenal. Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and you can certainly expect Evangeline Lilly to return as The Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
The villain of the film? That will be Kang the Conqueror, who will be played by Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors. The inclusion of Kang opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities for the MCU, and may even tease the arrival of the Fantastic Four down the line! We wrote more about those possibilities right here.
We’re also going to need fast confirmation on Michael Pena’s return as Luis, though. Luis is key…
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Release date: May 5, 2023
After a tumultuous period which saw James Gunn fired and then rehired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, he will finally return to complete his spacefaring trilogy for the studio. However, Gunn can’t even begin filming Guardians 3 until he finishes production on The Suicide Squad for DC, as well as an HBO Max Peacemaker prequel. Once those projects are finished, he’s free to return to the MCU.
Avengers: Endgame left the team in an interesting place. We broke down some of the story possibilities right here.
And then there are still some dates that Marvel has announced that they have yet to match projects to. Those dates are…
July 28, 2023
Oct 7, 2023
Nov. 10, 2023
Some of those dates could very well be good fits for the following films…
Fantastic Four
The MCU Fantastic Four movie is finally happening! Marvel seems to be hinting that Fantastic Four will be their next priority after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So is it possible that we’ll see it on July 28, 2023? That sure would be a great piece of summer blockbuster real estate to launch what might be the most important piece of the MCU going forward!
Marvel’s first family will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a film directed by Jon Watts, who did such a wonderful job with the first two MCU Spider-Man movies. That’s all the information that’s out there at the moment, but as soon as we have more, we’ll update this. It also appears that WandaVision started to set up the Fantastic Four, so stay tuned. We have our own theories on why Marvel went with the Fantastic Four before the X-Men, but that’s another story.
Blade
In 2019, Marvel announced that they will be rebooting the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali playing the titular daywalker. Ali’s True Detective co-star – and former Blade villain – Stephen Dorff is excited to see what he can do with the character, and so are we.
Could Marvel decide to drop this in that Oct. 7, 2023 release date? Considering that’s the Halloween season and Blade is, y’know, a vampire hunter, they’d have to be foolish not to, right?
Captain America 4
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman is co-writing a currently-untitled Captain America 4 with another FWS alum, Dalan Musson. Those are pretty much all the details that are currently available on this one at this time, but at least we know that Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson in that incredibly badass Captain America costume they gave him for that show. We wrote some more about the potential story possibilities for this one right here.
There’s no date or director for this one yet, so even 2023 seems like it might be a longshot.
Deadpool 3
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin will be the writing team tasked with bringing the Merc with a Mouth to the MCU. What a Deadpool 3 could look like in the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe is, of course, anybody’s guess, but if anyone can crack wise about the follies of this kind of corporate synergy, it’s Ryan Reynolds.
And then there’s the lingering TV stuff, at least two of which will arrive in 2022, with the balance likely to arrive in 2023…
She-Hulk
Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who ends up with her cousin Bruce’s gamma-irradiated blood. Hilarity certainly ensues. Kevin Feige has promised that since this will be a courtroom show, you never know who else from the MCU could show up.
It’s possible we’ll get She-Hulk on Disney+ in 2022, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.
Moon Knight
Oscar Isaac will play Marc Spector, a disturbed fortune hunter who also happens to be the avenging avatar of an Egyptian moon god. Oscar Isaac is already training hard for the role, and the series is now officially in production, so we wouldn’t be surprised if we see this one on Disney+ in 2022.
Ironheart
The first of two series that will explore the legacy of Iron Man and Tony Stark in the MCU, Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a teenager at M.I.T. who creates her own suit of armor to right the wrongs of the world.
Armor Wars
Don Cheadle will reprise his role as Rhodey and will have the solo spotlight in the War Machine armor in a series that deals with a nightmare scenario for the MCU: what if Tony Stark’s Iron Man technology fell into the wrong hands and was getting duplicated by villains? Based on a classic comics run, Armor Wars promises big action and lots of obscure bad guys. We can’t wait.
Secret Invasion
Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Talos for a series about the shape-shifting Skrull infiltration of Earth. Kingsley Ben-Adir is apparently playing the villain of the series. Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Killian Scott also star.
On directing duties are Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) while Mr. Robot vet Kyle Bradstreet is the head writer.
Secret Invasion could be the biggest thing to happen to the MCU since Endgame.
Wakanda
Very few details are available on this one at the moment, but Ryan Coogler will develop at least one Wakanda-set TV series for Disney+. Could this have anything to do with that Wakanda Forever title for Black Panther 2? We wrote more about some of the implications of this here.
We’ll keep updating this with new information as it becomes available!

Marvel fans, prepare to wait a little bit longer to see Doctor Strange, Thor and Black Panther return to theaters.
Disney has delayed release plans for several upcoming films, including “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” from March 25 to May 6, “Thor: Love and Thunder” from May 6 to July 8 and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” from July 8 to Nov. 11. With the “Black Panther” sequel jumping to November, “The Marvels” has been postponed to early 2023. As part of the rollback, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” was bumped from Feb. 17 to July 28, 2023.
Along with the deluge of Marvel delays, Disney has moved the fifth “Indiana Jones” installment back nearly a year. The still-untitled film, starring Harrison Ford as the fedora-wearing, swashbuckling archaeologist, will open on June 30, 2023 instead of July 29, 2022.
The major release date shuffle comes after Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” cemented its place as a pandemic-era box office hit and ahead of “Eternals,” the MCU entry that is scheduled for Nov. 5. The scheduling overhaul is related to production and not box office returns, according to sources at Disney. The next “Black Panther” entry, for one, is still filming in Atlanta.
After Disney put “Black Widow” starring Scarlett Johansson, “101 Dalmatians” prequel “Cruella” and animated adventure “Raya and the Last Dragon” on Disney Plus on the same day as their respective theatrical premieres, the studio has reaffirmed its commitment to the big screen — for now. The movies on schedule for 2021 will play exclusively in theaters for 45 days before moving to digital platforms, however, Disney has not solidified plans for 2021 and beyond.

Movie review: Black Widow
Finally, Black Widow gets her own movie! At least she beat Hawkeye.
Considering what happened in the last Avengers movie, "Black Widow" just about has to be a prequel. (You crazy kids and your two year old spoilers.) Sure enough, we open with a very young Natasha Romanov, living a quiet life in Ohio with her parents and cute little sister, Yelena.
But it's not that kind of a movie.
Tumblr media
Natasha is torn from her family and sent to the Red Room, where she grows up to look just like Scarlett Johansson and becomes a Black Widow--Russian spy and assassin who somehow keeps her mid-American accent.
Fast forward to the events of Captain America: Civil War, which you don't really have to watch to see this, but why wouldn't you? Natasha finds herself on the losing end of an Avenger vs. Avenger slamfest, and with almost all her comrades imprisoned, she finds herself on the run. But that's okay: She has a lot of experience being on the wrong side of the law. Natasha finds a self-sufficient house trailer in the middle of nowhere and settles down to watch James Bond movies while the outside world cools down. (The particular movie she watches foreshadows a reveal later on.)
But it's not that kind of movie, either.
Natasha is drawn back into the spy world again, trying to infiltrate the Red Room and rescue her sister black widows--including her sister (played with style by Florence Pugh, who I will lay money on being the next black widow to become, well, the next Black Widow.) Along the way she and her sister have a family reunion that's to die for, and also to kill for, because it's that kind of a movie.
Tumblr media
Because "Black Widow" is set mostly in 2016, when other things were going on in the Marvel universe, the movie can't make use of the usual MCU supporting characters. That's a good thing, because it allows development not only of the character, but also her own cast of great supporting characters. Also, we finally get to find out what happened in Budapest, and the throwaway line from the first Avengers movie becomes a major plot point.
I get a little CGI weary sometimes, but "Black Widow" makes good use of modern effects, and the fight scenes are spectacular. At the same time--and in no small part because of acting skill--we get a real feel for what Natasha and her family go through as they fight to make peace with their past. The only real complaint is that we won't see Johansson in the role again, but on the bright side "Black Widow" serves as an origin story for her sister Yelena, who apparently will be an anti-hero in the upcoming Hawkeye series.
(By the way: If you're any kind of a fan, you'll quite definitely want to stick around for the post-credits scene.)
In the end, "Black Widow" is not so much a superhero movie as an amped up spy thriller with a surprising amount of heart, and unsurprising amount of action.
My score:
Entertainment value: 5 out of 5 M&Ms. The good milk chocolate.
Oscar potential: 3 out of 5 M&Ms. Maybe in the effects related categories. There's some quality acting going on here from several cast members, but the Academy is still prejudiced against SF/fantasy movies. That's especially sad with "Black Widow", which features two Oscar winners and, in its main roles, two Oscar nominees.

For the ask thing :3:
Top 5 animals? Top 5 fav/comfort movies? Top 5 fav cartoons/shows?
I’m honestly glad to know theres other people including you who actually like Pakku and his character :3 Yes he was a completely asshole at the start but he did change, it’s just that it was so subtle that not everyone saw it
Also random song associations with characters:
Fighter by Jack Stauber reminds me very well of Piandao, Pakku, and Jeong Jeong as their younger selves during the war.
Why do I associate Grace by Lewis Capaldi with Bumi? (the music video tho would give more context to why it might make sense)
Oh Klahoma by Jack Stauber reminds me of Piandao and his overall anxieties for his partners.
Consider some of these songs as sorta song recs? Idk but still :3
1. Giraffes!! the reason why their tongues look like That is cause of extra melanin and to prevent sunburn!!
2. Seals!! there are 33 different kinds of pinnipeds and there over 50 extinct pinnipeds
3. Dogs!! they can only see in shades of blue and yellow, so bright red roses look yellowish brown and lively green grass look dehydrated and dead
4. Crows!! a group of them are called a murder
5. Cows!! they’re actually colorblind, they can’t see red specifically, so male cows, bulls aren’t getting mad at the color, they’re getting angry at the movement
1. The Losers movie from 2010, it’s a action mystery movie about Clay and his team that are a part of an elite US Special Forces Unit and are approached by a mysterious woman to exact revenge on their handler, Max, who betrayed them and just,,,the characters, CHRIS EVANS, jake jensen and all of his kinda weird glory, THE ELEVATOR SCENE, also cougar!!
2. Captain America and The Winter Soldier movie, it’s a action movie, which makes me realize that a lot of my faves are prolly gonna be action something, but anyways, it’s about Steve Rogers, who now lives in the nation's capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Natasha Romanov, and a new ally, Sam Wilson, Steve struggles to expose an ever-widening conspiracy, but he and his team soon come up against an unexpected enemy. oh my god,,,just,,,the fight scenes, the running scene at the beginning of the movie, steve meeting sam that way, just everything!! this was also my introduction to marvel so in my mind no other marvel movie can live up to this (other than spiderman away from home)
3. Spiderman Far from Home, again, it’s a action movie, i’m not gonna explain this cause the post is getting long, but!! mj and peter!! just,,,all of their scenes!! also jake gyllenhaal!! the fight scenes!! the soundtrack!! everything about it is amazing!!
4. Thunderforce, again, i’m not gonna explain, it’s an action adventure and comedy movie (ofc it is look at the other 3 🙄 /s), the relationship between lydia and emily!! the relationship between lydia and emily’s daughter!! the humor!! the fight scenes!! the soundtrack!!,,,,just everything about is good despite the bad ratings
that’s more like a top 4 than a top 5 but that’s like,,,,all the movies i genuinely like and will rewatch if given the chance and for that where’s a honorable mention: Hamilton (the movie version on disney+ that came out i think nearly a year ago), the soundtrack is amazing, the characters are better, got some funny moments and is mostly historically accurate, like yeah angelica did forget her name cause at the time of her meeting alex ham, she was married to a man named john church (or something church idk) so her last name was church but she introduced herself to alexander as angelica schuyler, not angelica church, so in satisfied she was telling the truth about forgetting her own name, but in the same song she said that her father had no sons even though the real angelica had 3 brothers.
1. Avatar the last Airbender, ofc or else i would have a blog (mostly) centered around it and it’s sequel /s but fr though?? it’s such a good show!! zuko’s redemption arc, iroh’s redemption arc (even though his more subtle than zuko’s) , aang!! love him and his character so much, especially when he gets to be a sassy little shit, sokka and his shit humor and brains, katara, toph, hakoda and HIS shit humor, the fight scene with hakoda (he fights kinda like a waterbender, using his opponent’s momentum against them), bato and his lovely, lovely voice, piandao, aang going ‘how about he get on YOUR back and you can fly us to the south pole’ or something like that to sokka after he complained about appa not flying higher, the boiling rock episodes, hakoda apparently being a good dad but a shitty prison riot starter (love that for him), just!! atla is such a good ass show, im not changing my mind. also!! i like the way they introduced ozai, not showing his face but still presenting him as not only a shit dad, but a shit person as well, like up until book three, we only saw him like, the neck down and in like, a flashback or two (i don’t really remember how many flashbacks ozai was in actually cause it’s nearly been a full year since i last watched it) and that’s it, so it made seeing his face for the first time all the more better cause you was already like ‘what the hell does this shitbag look like’ and then you see him and now ur like ‘oh!! THATS what he looks like!!’
2. The Legend of Korra, again, ofc or else i wouldn’t have a blog (mostly) centered around it and it’s prequel, just,,,,korra’s arc from being hot headed to calm is fantastic but also sad considering the way she went from that to this, korra’s book 1 character!! for whatever reason i really like b1 korra, just,,her design, her hair style (even though she had it for nearly the entire series) just!!! book 1 korra <3, also the entirety of book 1!! just amon posing as a anti bender nonbender despite being a waterbender himself, the scene where tenzin and his kids nearly lost their bending, which would’ve meant that, if tenzin did lose his bending but his kids didn’t, that would’ve meant the strongest airbender would’ve been his 11 year old daughter, the gruesome way to end the season finale episode by doing a murder suicide which was dark as fuck for what?? a kids show??, also the villains in this show!! their good as hell!! the backstory of the red lotus and how and why they were created?? amon and his anti bending?? kuvira and her plan to basically rule the earth kingdom (idk i haven’t finished book 4), unalaq and his spiritual stuff and wanting to become a dark avatar and fusing with vaatu?? also!! the other disturbing scene of korra basically getting tortured near the end of book 3, i mean?? it deadass left her hella traumatized and unable to walk, again hella dark for a fucking kids show
3. The Walking Dead, even though i haven’t finished it or watched in like, 4-5 months, i just,,,the way the presented negan!! practically foreshadowing him the entirety of season 6!! him appearing at the very end of the season 6 finale and pretty much having an entire episode dedicated to him in the very beginning of season 7 (which is why some fans argue he was introduced in s7 not s6 cause of the fact that he didn’t show up until the very end of the s6 finale but had an entire episode with him in it in s7, while others say vice versa cause the very the first time we see him was in s6 not s7), the fact that the walking dead logo was getting progressively more and more decayed as the series go on?? the fact that the WALKERS (the zombies) are getting more and more decayed as the series go on?? dale’s death scene?? shane’s death scene?? negan’s relationship with rick’s daughter?? the fact that this show also has what?? 11, 12 seasons?? which reminds me that i’m still on season 9 of twd
4. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, just,,,salem and his sarcasm?? sabrina’s aunts?? sabrina herself?? just!! everyone is just so fucking funny in this show it’s unreal, specially salem!! a lot of my favorite scenes have salem in them, the ‘are you on a women’s chat room again?’ (or something like that) and salem saying ‘i like the attention’ in response, that one harvey and salem scene that i don’t know how to describe without turning this into a giant paragraph like the ones before this one
5. blue’s clues, it was my favorite childhood show and i love the reboot of it so much!! especially p for pride moment in that song i don’t remember the name of, blue themself!! steve leaving which was sad but getting an equally amazing host in the process?? amazing!! the scene where salt and pepper introduced their baby, paprika?? just,,,it’s such good show and i loved it when i was younger and i still love it now!!

8 Disney Live-Action Movies Coming Up Next After Cruella
Cruella was indeed a long-awaited live-action movie that finally arrived on 22 May 2021. It was a prequel to the 101 Dalmatians story and was a hit on both Disney+ premier and theatres. However, Cruella is just the beginning, as Disney has an entire list of similar movies in the production process. To be precise, the number reaches up to 14. Disney has decided to work on the revoked storyline with a new perspective for existing characters. It is to be done according to the analysis on the preferred choice of audiences. Disney has been working on its vast range of catalogs to bring classic characters with mixed results. While Disney is known for its animated film productions, it gave us some of the best live-action adaptations of various movies. For instance, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
Presenting a deeper look at the controversial characters from the bigger franchises has become a trend. For instance, movies like Joker and Maleficent are the supporting characters from the bigger franchise. But Disney provided us with a different perspective of those characters in the movie. The live-action trend began with Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (1994) and Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000). Here are some of the Disney live-action movies coming up next after Cruella based on existing stories such as:
1. The Little Mermaid
Tumblr media
The next live-action movie, a remake of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ is expected to come, as Disney announced its casting. The casting is followed by Halle Bailey as ‘Ariel,’ the title character, and Melissa McCarthy as ‘Ursula’, the villain character. And Awkwafina will play Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Most of the previous live-action adaptations of animated musicals have included lesser classic Disney song catalog. However, the adaptations of ‘The Little Mermaid’ will be arriving with the original soundtrack. Alan Menken (worked on original music) and Lin-Manuel Miranda are working on new songs as well. The film production was in process but was delayed due to the pandemic. So, the released date is yet to be announced.
2. Luca
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pixar is offering an animated coming-of-age story movie that includes the adventures of two boys. The initial release date is fixed for June 18, 2021. It is a story about two boys, ‘Luca’ and his friend Alberto, as they are set to enjoy sun-soaked summer at the Italian seaside. Jacob Tremblay will be playing the role of Luca Paguro, Jack Dylan Grazer will play Alberto Scorfano, and Emma Berman as Giulia. The story follows the life of two magical sea creatures posing as boys and exploring scooter rides, pasta, gelato, and the countryside.
3. Peter Pan & Wendy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here comes another live-action adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. The film is currently in production and is directed by David Lowery. It has adopted the name directly from J.M. Barrie’s novel ‘Peter and Wendy’. However, it is suggested that the focus might have shifted from Peter to Wendy. Ever Anderson will play the new adaptation roles as Black Widow and Peter as Alexander Molony.
4. Jungle Book Sequel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney has announced about working on the sequel of 2016’s The Jungle Book. According to the reports, the writer and director of the first installment, Justin Marks and Jon Favreau, are constantly working together. However, there has been no confirmation about the upcoming movie’s cast.
5. The Lion King Prequel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney announced the prequel of ‘The Lion King’ at the Disney Investor’s Day in 2020. Jon Favreau directed the first installment, and Moonlight director ‘Barry Jenkins will most likely direct the sequel.’ Well, for further information on the prequel about cast or story, we have to wait.
6. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’ also have had its fair share of adaptations, including Snow White and the Huntsman. And other sequels following the movie with a completely different story. The announcement said that Marc Webb would direct, Eric Cresidda Wilson will work on the script, and Justin Paul & Benj Pasek will work on new songs. As usual, the production was delayed by pandemic, and the release date is not announced yet.
7. Aladdin Sequel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney’s live-action Aladdin (2019) was a total hit, which brings the sequel in line. And it is expected that people will love the sequel as well, or at least it will be considered. The second installment is already in production with casting members Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott as their previous roles. Disney’s original Aladdin (1992) was given two sequels, but the new sequel is believed to be a new story.
8. Hunchback
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hunchback of the Notre Dame (1996) is not much famous but will be getting a live-action adaptation. It was announced in 2019 and will be produced by Josh Gad. It will be developed as a musical adaptation by drawing some of the elements from Victor Hugo. The confirmation about the project was given by Gad recently in January 2021.

The Black Widow Prequel Should Become A Trilogy
An essay by me (written on mobile)
Okay so we know for sure that the BW movie will be a prequel. Spark the debate: is it Red Room, Clint and her entrance to SHIELD, Budapest, or something different?
I propose the following: do all three. Most of the heros have gotten a trilogy, why can't Nat?
Movie One: Black Widow
This is all about Nat's origin story. Who her parents were, how she got to the Red Room. It'll include the ballet and assassin training. It can even have Bucky in it with the one time he shot her as the Winter Soldier. I'm not quite sure on what the plot here might be but there's definitely a story arc they could pull from the comics here.
The end credits scene can be Clint receiving a file on Nat from Hill or Coulson and being told she's his next target.
Movie Two: Black Widow and Hawkeye
Yeah the name mirrors AMatW but that's the point. This is the superhero origin story. How Clint was sent to kill her and made another call. He brings her back to SHIELD where Fury has to deal with them and Coulson agrees to take her in. We could even pull in some characters from the first free seasons of AOS here. Maybe it can also have an arc where Nat and Clint take down some bad guy and she proves her loyalty to Clint, SHIELD, Fury, and Coulson.
Flashback scenes can be included about Clint, the circus, and his brother, too. After all, this is Black Widow and Hawkeye. It's just fair his backstory is included.
Possible end credit scenes: Nat finally getting Fury to eat a diagonally cut sandwich. Another with Hill, Coulson or Fury calling them in and either giving the name of their next target and/or telling them "How do you feel about a trip to Hungary?"
Movie Three: Black Widow and Hawkeye: Budapest
And we conclude the trilogy with actually learning what Budapest was. We see Strike Team Delta referred to as such, multiple times. They take down some bad guys, plenty of amazing shots and action scenes.
Actually, maybe even a shot of Clint lost because he lost his map and Nat figuring out where they are based on some obscure detail.
Either somewhere in this movie, or in the post credit scenes, we get either Nat buying the arrow necklace or Clint giving it to her. Very touching moment either way because it symbolizes how far they've come.
I guess somewhere along the way in this, Clint tells Nat about Laura- maybe about how he's contemplating telling her about being Hawkeye and getting Fury involved in making sure she's safe or something...idk yet...
The movie either ends with or has a post credit scene that's Fury calling them in to his office and saying "I'd like to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative." And boom, there's the lead in the Thor 1 and Iron Man 2, where they make their respective first appearances. Granted, it'll be set a few years before them but it leads in.
Not only do we get Strike Team Delta, we get their backstories and more screentime for their brotp. Please please please, Marvel. I need this and I know I'm not the only one. It'll be great, trust me.
Bonus: there's at least 2 scenes per movie for the second 2 where Clint has a broken nose.

Ch 3: “...she’s like me”
nat x younger reader. next part in the Your Red-Headed Mentor series.
Prequel
Ch 2
Ch 4, Part One
Tumblr media
You had been training with the team and Natasha for a few weeks now. You had gotten adjusted to life as a new Avenger, though you hadn't been cleared to go on any missions yet. You needed a little bit more training before that could happen.
You had gotten closer to the team, especially your mentor, Natasha. She helped you a great deal in adjusting to your knew life, including helping you with fashion, makeup, designing your room, reading books, cooking (though she was a terrible cook so that wasn’t much help), and watching movies.
She could tell something was off with you one day while she was training you. You were unfocused, and your movements were sloppy.
“Y/N?” she questioned. You mumbled an apology before attempting to redo the  move.
“Stop,” she said softly. You looked down at the ground, afraid you had disappointed her.
“What’s wrong?” You shook your head.
“Come on, follow me,” she instructed. You followed her out of the gym and up the stairs, onto the roof. The pool was up there, and she led you to a cabana near the edge of the roof. You took a second to look around once inside the cabana. It was a nice size, and there was a waterfall taking up one whole wall. It was gorgeous, and the view of the pool on one side and the forest on the other was breathtaking.
“Wow,” you managed to get out. Her lips twitched upwards.
“This is my personal cabana. FRIDAY does’t let anyone in here except for me. I had Tony build it last summer,” she informed you. “I want you to feel free to use it any time. I’ve already told FRIDAY to let you in whenever.”
Your face showed your shock, and you thanked her, before wondering something.
“Why are you letting me in here?”
“Because you’re an Avenger now. You’re a part of the family. My family,” she admitted, her gaze intense, letting you know just how much you meant to her. You couldn’t hold back your smile of wonder that came to your face, before your face fell. She waited for you to say something.
“I can’t stop thinking about the Red Room,” you whispered. She nodded and pursed her lips. She’d been there before. She knew exactly how you were feeling.
“I love being a part of the team. A lot. I love hanging out with everyone and having all of this support. And I’m so incredibly grateful. But it’s such a huge change. I know it’s messed up, but I miss the brutality. I’m used to being yelled at for showing any signs of being weak, being human. How do I live without that?” you questioned softly. You had never been this vulnerable in front of anyone. Your eyes were staring at a spot on the ground, and you missed tears swimming in Natasha’s eyes. She blinked them away, before reaching out and taking your hand in hers.
“Y/N, in order to have survived in the Red Room, you had to have been strong. The weak don’t make it. They don’t become black widows. You were strong enough to survive. I know that you were at the top of your class. You were probably the strongest one there. Because of your strength, you will be able to move past the Red Room. You were taught that to be human was to be weak, but all of the strengths you have are because you are human. And as for the brutality, the only fix is time. You need time to be able to  see that you do not need the brutality to live. Give it time. I promise it gets better,” she finished.
Though you were normally so composed, you let a tear slide down your cheek, wiping it away quickly.
“Thanks Natasha,” you murmured. She sent you a smile, before letting go of your hand.
“I think we’ll take the rest of the day off, and resume training tomorrow, yeah?” she questioned. You nodded, before following her downstairs.
You were fine for a few days, but were growing curious. You had opened up to Nat, and you found yourself thinking about it a lot. You were surprised that it had felt really nice to talk to someone about the Red Room. You wondered about Nat's time there and how she got past it, but weren’t sure if she wanted to talk about it, especially with you.
You decided you were just going to ask her. Maybe. You walked from your room to hers cautiously and slowly. You stopped right outside her door, hand raised, ready to knock. But you didn’t. After a few minutes, you started to walk away, before her door opened.
“Y/N? What is it?” she questioned softly. Unbeknownst to you, FRIDAY had alerted her of your presence when you had been just standing there for more than a minute. When you continued to just stand there, she decided to eventually open the door.
“Um, I was wondering- I mean I’m not sure if I- I- can I ask you something?” you said, staring at the floor. She chuckled softly.
“Of course, come in,” she opened the door wider. You had never been in Nat’s room before. It was simple, but filled with some pictures scattered on various surfaces and a few pieces of artwork here and there. She led you to the end of the bed, and sat down. You sat next to her.
“Can I ask you about the Red Room?” you blurted out. She tensed, but nodded.
“I’m sorry, you don’t have to say yes,” you muttered.
“Y/N, I gave you the okay to ask. I wouldn’t have said yes if I didn’t want to answer,” she reassured. You nodded.
“There were a few older girls who turned 18. They had a graduation ceremony that none of the younger girls knew about. What was it? Is it something I didn’t learn that you could teach me?” you asked. She took a deep breath in, and let it out.
“Y/N, the graduation ceremony... it’s not something you learn. It’s a surgical procedure.”
“Oh... well should I get it?” you asked, without even knowing what it was. “Will it make me a better Avenger?”
“Y/N... it’s a sterilization procedure.” Your face went white.
“Oh...” you whispered. Your brain felt overloaded. And then you realized. Natasha graduated. The thought of her having to go through that brought tears to your eyes, and before you knew it you were crying.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have asked. I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” you muttered.
“Y/N, calm down. I would not have told you all of this if I wasn’t okay with talking about it,” she reassured you once more. “It’s cruel what they do, and I’m glad you weren’t forced to undergo that procedure,” Nat said. You nodded, shaking a bit. You stayed quiet.
“I know you have other questions,” she chuckled. “You came in here, your mind racing with all of the things you wanted to talk about.” You hummed.
“How about I tell you some things?” she questioned. You nodded.
“I have a feeling you’re wondering if my training was the same as yours,” she began. “I think it was relatively the same. All of the moves you know were moves I learned there. Everything else I know I either learned from someone else or taught myself after graduating. And I’m sure we received the same psychological training as well.” You nodded. She continued. “After graduating, well, you know about what I did, but after I started working for SHIELD, I needed to find a way to cope. I needed to learn how to become my own person. So do you.”
“How do I do that?” you wondered aloud. She chuckled.
“Do everything you are doing now. You have a family now. Spend time with them, find hobbies, try a bunch of new things. You need to find out what you like, and then you’ll know who you are. And then, find out what you stand for. What do you support? What are you against? All of these things will make up you.”
“Thank you Nat,” you murmured, content with the conversation. She hummed, before pulling you in for a hug.
“You alright?” she questioned. You nodded.
“Good,” she said softly, smiling. “Go to bed, it’s late.” You nodded again before scurrying out, making her laugh. What have I gotten myself into, she thought, a smile still on her face.
After you had gone to bed, Natasha got up and went to the bar to grab a drink. Clint was already sitting there.
“Hey,” he greeted. “What have you been up to?”
“Talking to Y/N. She asked me about the Red Room, the graduation ceremony and the training, and my life after that,” Natasha admitted.
“Oh,” Clint said, a little speechless. “And you answered?”
“I answered. I gave her information willingly without her prompting too,” she said.
“You okay?” Clint questioned. She nodded.
“Yeah, I’m glad I could help her with that stuff.”
“You like being her mentor. Hell, you like her a lot Nat,” he responded.
“She’s like me,” was all Nat said. Clint nodded. He understood.

Black Widow movie spoilers in this post.
So between @redspiderling noticing that Nat’s wearing her Endgame jacket in the paparazzi photos, and the Instagram post of other paparazzi photos that pretty clearly shows Heidi Moneymaker (Black Widow stunt double since IM2) in costume carrying a glowing stone, on top of her hair looking very post-Endgame and her makeup not attempting to make her look younger while they also don’t have the de-aging magic SFX dots on her face...
Let’s chat.
Everyone who argued that the movie was entirely a prequel and we were just being delusional can now officially shove it. Whether or not Nat comes back to life (and I think that’s still very much if, not when), this is very much telling a story which necessarily follows Endgame.
And that’s important because of how narrative works, which I know many of us have been railing on for a while now. Because if a Black Widow movie has nothing to do with the future of the MCU, it’s there as nothing but pity for the viewers who invested in her, and it ends up being, well, pointless. I'd still appreciate it, of course, because Nat, but it would feel like scraps, or like a consolation prize.
It would also be a bad business decision- not something Marvel is exactly known for, for all their flaws- because one of the things that gets asses in seats at MCU movies is building the greater narrative, and the idea this wouldn’t do that was nonsensical. So there’s a part of me that’s smug, not because Nat has a future, but because narrative is important to me and if I was going to call one thing right, I’m glad it’s this.
It’s worth discussing how they’re filming this, not on a closed sound stage, but out in the real world. Paparazzi were able to grab photos. Audiences (well, a tiny subset of audiences, which is to say, us) have been able to make connections. This is literally the first thing they’re filming, such that if they’re aiming to put together a sizzle reel- say, hypothetically, for SDCC or D23- they could be able to include it.
Given how much of the negative response to Endgame (which received generally positive reviews) has been about fridging, I do have to wonder if there’s some intentionality in all of this. And like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if, rather than saving this reveal for the movie, it’s something we hear pretty early, even if those specific scenes are not.
I don’t know that Nat’s going to end this movie alive. I don’t even know if she’s going to get out of the soul stone. But I do feel extremely confident, at this point, that we’re going to see a post-Endgame Natasha, and we’re going to see things through her lens and we’re going to see her fight to have the ending SHE wants, and that is so much more important to me than whether she lives or dies.
This is going to be exhausting and rage-inducing, but I’m now wondering if it’s worth going back to all of the MMRR interviews, and trying to read them through the lens of “they know what’s coming, it was part of the plan at least since the BW movie was conceptualized, they know they’re not allowed to talk about it, and they’re ridiculously bad at diplomatic answers.“ That would at the very least explain some of the contradictions. I’m trying to work up the energy for that one.
On the other hand, I kind of just want to speculate on the possibilities for the story they’re telling. That gets my hopes up, which means more possibility for disappointment, but it’s SO much more fun.

Natasha, the Soul Stone, and the Black Widow Movie
I’ve been wanting to write this all day but I had to spend three hours doing a take home exam and after that I had to work on an essay (final weeks of college are a bitch) so it’s late but hopefully I’m still coherent enough so I can do this justice.
Anyway here’s my meta on Natasha and the soul stone and how that might affect the Black Widow movie (SPOILERS DUH)
putting this under a cut bc it might get long
One of the most frustrating things about Natasha’s death (besides, y’know, EVERYTHING) is that no one who worked on this movie seems to fucking understand how the soul stone works or how the soul exchange works. None of it is consistent: the writers and the Russo’s insist that Nat is gone for good because of the exchange, while failing to provide a coherent explanation for why Steve returning the stone at the end didn’t undo her death (you give back the stone, you undo the trade, right??) Not to mention the fact that Clint willingly didn’t give up Natasha so he could take the stone, something that was seemingly made very clear in Infinity War when Thanos sacrificed Gamora. So essentially, nothing about the Soul Stone/Nat’s death really makes any sense and if I see the Russo’s in the street I’m throwing hands.
But anyway, there is one aspect of the soul stone that we saw in Infinity War that I want to dress, and how that could factor into the Black Widow movie.
Back when rumors of a legitimate Black Widow movie started coming into fruition at the beginning in 2018, The Hashtag Show reported that there would be details in Endgame that would factor into the solo, details that Marvel would insist on being included. Obviously, her death factors pretty heavily into that, as if she is indeed not coming back this film will undoubtedly be a prequel.
Now, back to the soul stone. The scene I want to talk about is from Infinity War, right after Thanos snaps and he finds himself face-to-face with a young Gamora in (what appears to be) a version of the soul world:
Tumblr media
This is never explained. The scene heavily implies that Gamora (and all others who where sacrificed for the stone) still exist in some capacity within the soul stone. For awhile fandom speculated that all of the characters who got snapped ended up in the soul world, but from Peter’s explanation during the final battle it looks like everyone just felt like they had slept for a few minutes, and never actually spent any time conscious or in limbo.
Therefore, it looks like only the characters who were sacrificed in the trade for the stone remain in the soul world. It makes sense, as the stone takes possession of the souls it was traded for.
So presumably Gamora and Natasha are still in there. As we saw at the end of the movie, this might factor into guardians 3, as the guardians are looking to save Gamora in one way or another (either by tracking down the 2014 version or otherwise).
So, how does all this factor into the Black Widow movie?
Since it’s become very clear that this movie is actually happening, I’ve been (of course) thinking a lot of what I might actually want from this film (and oooohhh the list is long!) But I’ve always liked the idea of Natasha, maybe at least for one of the trailers or the beginning of the film, getting to narrate her own story, similar to how she narrated in her 2014 comic run. Something along the lines of “you may know my name, but no one knows my full story.” The narration is a doubly symbolic for me, as it quite literally would show Natasha taking control of her own narrative, being given the chance to tell her own story, instead of being filtered through the lens of male characters/writers. Obviously, with her being dead, she wouldn’t be able to do this while sitting in Avengers HQ, but clearly we can’t have nice things.
Which brings everything I’ve said into play here. The soul stone, soul world, details from Endgame Marvel insists are included in the Black Widow movie.
Could the Black Widow movie include Natasha in the soul stone, narrating and looking back on her life, now that she’s made the ultimate sacrifice?
Would it in any way justify/make Natasha’s death any better? Hell no. Would it clear up all the crap surrounding the soul stone? No. Would it even open the door to bring Natasha back? I have no idea. But I like the idea of this happening. Why? Maybe I’m comforted by the idea that Natasha’s still alive in some capacity. Maybe I hope that this will give people more time to meditate of Natasha’s sacrifice if she is shown in limbo like this. Maybe I just really, really like the idea of Natasha narrating her movie and don’t want that possibility to be lost now that she’s dead. Whatever the reason, I will hold onto this theory until it is definitively proven otherwise.

My Anticipated Films of the Year
1. Bad Boys for Life - I enjoyed the first two films, so I’m looking forward to seeing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles from those films.
2. Birds of Prey - I have a feeling this movie is gonna be shit, but I’m wondering if it’ll be an enjoyable bad or just unenjoyable. In any case, it’d be interesting if they can be worse than Suicide Squad.
3. A Quiet Place: Part II - The first movie was good; where are they going from there?
4. The New Mutants - This was supposed to be the last X-Men film before Dark Phoenix took that position. So now I wanna see if Marvel is gonna retroactively include this film into the MCU.
5. No Time to Die - This is gonna be Daniel Craig’s last Bond film. So will it be a whimper or a bang?
6. Black Widow - I know, I know, the MCU should just be over after Avengers: Endgame, why the hell is this movie coming out now, I know the arguments why this movie shouldn’t exist. But I’m still interested; the MCU hasn’t been broken yet, and I’ll watch it until I can’t take no more.
7. Fast and Furious 9 - This movie series became so much fun when The Rock came in. So I have no reason to not see how much more ridiculous this franchise can become.
8. Wonder Woman 1984 - Superhero movie, sequel to a decent film. Sold already.
9. Top Gun: Maverick - Sequel to a popular 1980s film? I’m game.
10. Ghostbusters: Afterlife - Can this movie bring back the good faith of Ghostbusters fans after the godawful 2016 film? We’ll see!
11. The Purge 5 - Why not? These films are as fun as they’re stupid.
12. Tenet - Christopher Nolan does time travel. Sign me up!
13. Morbius - I shouldn’t see this movie. Jared Leto is going to ruin another comic book character as he did with Joker in Suicide Squad. But considering how obscure Morbius the Living Vampire is as a comic book character, I wanna see how he’ll be handled, crappy Leto performance aside.
14. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard - The Hitman’s Bodyguard was a poor action movie but a decent comedy. I can only hope the action in this one can be improved from its predecessor.
15. The King’s Man - A prequel to the fun Kingsman film series that’s gonna feature Grigori Rasputan fighting as a ninja. Fuck yes.
16. Venom 2 - How will Woody Harrelson delve into the role of Carnage when he can’t have an R-rating? I can only hope that Venom 2 can at least be dumb fun like its predecessor.
17. Halloween Kills - So is Laurie Strode gonna die in this one? If she does, I hope it’ll be a more satisfying sendoff than she got in Halloween: Resurrection.
18. The Eternals - If this movie doesn’t turn out to be the movie version of Inhumans from 2017, let’s hope it can be an improvement.
19. Godzilla vs. Kong - If this movie had the balls to have Godzilla say to Kong, “You have to save Mothra!” followed by Kong screaming, “Why did you say that name?!” this movie would become an instant classic for me.
20. Dune - Can this be the defining adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 classic? At any rate, it’ll certainly be better than the last science-fiction tentpole film released in a December (fuck Rise of Skywalker).
21. Coming 2 America - Is this movie going to be a worthy successor to the 1988 comedy classic Coming to America or is it going to fall prey to sequelitis (my money’s on the latter, but I hope for the former).
@blue-mint-winter  So aside from Dune, which of these movies are you looking forward to this year?

Marvel’s Black Widow: MCU Easter Eggs and References Guide
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains Black Widow spoilers. We have a spoiler-free review here.
The MCU is finally back on the big screen! Marvel’s Black Widow was supposed to be the official kickoff of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but then the pandemic happened, it got bounced around the release calendar, and Disney managed to release three MCU TV shows before Natasha got to take her curtain call on the big screen.
But that’s thankfully behind us, and Black Widow delivers terrific blockbuster action in the mighty Marvel manner. And you know what that means! Let’s try and spot all the cool MCU references and Marvel Comics Easter eggs in Black Widow.
The Prologue
Setting this prologue in 1995 gives us the approximate age of Natasha. If she’s supposed to be about 11 or 12 here, that conveniently makes the character the same age as Scarlett Johannsson, who was born in 1984.
The general premise of Natasha’s childhood, in which she was the daughter of two Russian spies is highly similar to that of the FX series The Americans.
This seems to be the late summer of 1995, which puts it roughly around when Captain Marvel was taking place (the official word on that is 1995, but little details in it, like Stan Lee reading a Mallrats screenplay could place it in 1994).
Young Natasha is played by Ever Anderson – the daughter of actress Milla Jovovich and Event Horizon director Paul W. S. Anderson. You will not be able to unsee her resemblance to Milla.
The first song choice in the movie is young Yelena’s fixation on Don McLean’s fixation on “American Pie,” a song about (among other things) the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and “The Big Bopper” J.P. Richardson. That being said, “American Pie” is about a larger loss of innocence, a theme that weighs heavily throughout this film.
Before Alexei turns the radio off to play “American Pie”, the station is set to 105.1 FM. This is WQXK, a country station based in Salem, Ohio that serves the Youngstown market. Natasha and Yelena’s American home is likely based in Eastern Ohio.
There’s an episode of DuckTales playing on TV in the background while they have dinner. We can’t tell what episode it is, but DuckTales ruled, and the new series was even better. And hey, we get some payoff later in the movie when they play an aircraft crash for laughs while having everyone just casually walk it off.
Alexei was working undercover in the US at the North Institute, which he burned to the ground before making his escape. In Black Widow Vol 3 #1, Natasha decided to retire to Arizona but she and other Red Room victims were hounded by the North Institute. Spurred to investigate the situation, Natasha returned to Russia where she discovered much of the terrible truth behind her past Red Room manipulation. This was a story that also featured Yelena (and Daredevil, believe it or not).
There’s definitely an early SHIELD logo on the trucks chasing the family to the very end there.
The plane number is 258. In Incredible Hulk #258, we get the first appearance of the Soviet Super-Soldiers (later named the Winter Guard), a communist superhero team created for the sake of rivaling the Avengers. The original lineup was Ursa Major (more on him in a minute), Darkstar, Vanguard, and the fifth Crimson Dynamo (more on this, too). Over time, Red Guardian joined their ranks, though it was Josef Petkus and not Alexei Shostakov.
This is a perfect cold open, the kind that James Bond movies excelled at, and it’s far from the only Bond parallel we’ll get in the film.
The Opening Credits
There’s all kinds of stuff happening in the opening credits, including the film’s villain Dreykov being inserted into photos with various world leaders, including President Bill Clinton, President George W. Bush’s Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, and others. The Red Room’s influence knows no national boundaries, it seems.
The overall effect is to imply that Dreykov and the Widows have been putting their fingers on the scale for quite some time.
It’s also a nice touch that many of the “news broadcasts” we see here are from MCU staple WHIH.
There’s a shot of some vials with blue liquid, which allude to the Red Room’s attempt to create Captain America-esque super soldiers, which they succeeded with to some degree with the Red Guardian, but also makes us wonder if they tried enhancing any earlier Widows.
Smells Like Teen Spirit
The opening credits are set to a version of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Malia J. You may have heard her covers of Seal’s “Crazy” and Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” in trailers for shows like Bloodlines and The Handmaid’s Tale.
We wrote more about the Black Widow version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” here.
When Does Black Widow Take Place?
This movie takes place in 2016, shortly after the events of Captain America: Civil War. General “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) is here to remind us all that Natasha is still in trouble with the government.
What’s kind of neat about this is that it’s the first Marvel “prequel” that feels like it is designed to be watched in its chronological sequence (minus that post-credits scene, of course). Captain America: The First Avenger makes more sense as a flashback interlude between Thor and The Avengers, while Captain Marvel makes more sense as a breather between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. But Black Widow feels like it should be watched right after Civil War.
Thunderbolt Ross
Natasha brings up Ross having his second triple bypass. In Captain America: Civil War, Ross talks about how he had his first heart attack while playing golf and it gave him perspective and convinced him to retire from the US Army. It seems chasing down Cap’s allies hasn’t been so good for his health.
Red Guardian
We know that Alexei has been active as Red Guardian since at least 1983 or 1984 based on the tales of fighting Captain America he tells while in jail. He was apparently sent to the USA for undercover work in 1992, and then imprisoned a few years after their 1995 escape back to Russia.
Red Guardian’s knuckle tattoos say “Karl Marx” which is kind of adorable but…shouldn’t they be in Cyrillic/Russian characters and not Latin/English? Is this to troll his capitalist opponents so they can read them as he beats their asses?
Red says he fought Captain America in 1983 or 1984. The simplest explanation is that he’s lying but…what if he isn’t?
Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he’s telling the truth and there really was yet another secret Captain America active in the ‘80s. Now that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is done, we know that there was at least one “replacement Cap” and the comics indicate there were others. Or maybe it’s just Steve in the timestream…maybe we’ll find out one day, but we wrote much more about some possibilities for this here.
Ursa
Red Guardian breaks the arm of a man named Ursa… Ursa Major (Mikhail Ursus) is the name of another Russian superhero in Marvel Comics, whose mutant power caused him to turn into a literal talking bear. He became a staple member of the Soviet Super Soldiers/Winter Guard along with a Red Guardian. While the movie doesn’t depict him like the comics, Red Guardian does joke about him being a bear.
Taskmaster
This is a very different version of Taskmaster than the one we got in the comics. Marvel Comics Taskmaster has “photographic reflexes” and is a man named Anthony Masters. Here, in addition to the new gender (Dreykov’s daughter is named “Antonia” as a nod to the comics character), Taskmaster is cybernetically enhanced to make those “photographic reflexes a little easier.
There is precedent for a female Taskmaster. The series Deadpool MAX reimagined Deadpool in a cynical, dark, and very adult (albeit absurd and humorous) way. This lent itself to Deadpool-adjacent characters. Taskmaster was depicted as a woman roughly in her ‘50s who trained Deadpool and warped his mind.
There’s also Finesse, a member of Avengers Academy, whose powers are so similar to Taskmaster that she believes him to be her biological father. Unfortunately, due to memory problems, Taskmaster doesn’t know for sure and refuses to offer any DNA to find out the answer.
In the course of Taskmaster’s action scenes, we see her mimic a number of Marvel heroes, with a particular focus on those who played a part in the recent (by this movie’s timeline) Captain America: Civil War including Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Panther, and even Natasha.
We have more on Taskmaster here.
Who is Mason?
Rick Mason first appeared in his own 1989 graphic novel called Rick Mason: The Agent. Mason was a SHIELD agent mostly remembered for being the son of Phineas Mason, the Tinkerer. Granted, the Tinkerer we saw in Spider-Man: Homecoming isn’t nearly old enough to be Rick’s father in the movies and he looks nothing like him, so I wouldn’t expect any secret connection.
In the comics, Rick was practically forgotten about and killed off-panel. His son was one of the victims of Nitro’s explosion in Stamford, Connecticut from the beginning of the Marvel Comics version of Civil War.
Melina Vostokoff
The Melina Vostokoff of the MCU is pretty different from the one in Marvel Comics (who created by Ralph Macchio and George Perez in 1983). There, she was known as (we shit you not) Iron Maiden, and she was at least a former Widow-esque agent as she is here in the film.
Yelena Belova
Yelena and Natasha’s first meeting being over a bio-weapon/agent is very faintly similar to Yelena’s proper introduction in the comics, a 1999 Black Widow comics story where they were explicitly fighting over a bioweapon, not a “mind control antidote” as we see in this film.
The “face swap” trick that Natasha and Melina pull in the film’s final act also has the faintest of echoes of another early Yelena story, where Natasha “swapped faces” with Yelena to try and break her mind and get her on the side of the angels.
What Happened in Budapest?
“You and I remember Budapest very differently,” Clint Barton famously told Natasha in The Avengers during the Battle of New York. But now we know what went down…
Basically, Taskmaster’s origin story is tied to Natasha’s superhero origin. To fully defect from the Red Room and go to work for SHIELD, Natasha had to assassinate Dreykov…which meant the collateral damage of Antonia.
Of course, that led to Clint and Nat getting hounded by Red Room agents, which led to them hiding out for days together.
And before that, they were in that safe house apartment that was currently occupied by Yelena, hence the arrow damage to the walls.
Crimson Dynamo
Yelena (probably on purpose) refers to Alexei’s superheroic days as when he was “the Crimson Dynamo.” Sure, this is cute, but there really was a Crimson Dynamo in Marvel Comics! Crimson Dynamo is primarily an Iron Man villain, lots of different Russian agents have worn the Crimson Dynamo armor. It…didn’t end well for any of them.
The original Crimson Dynamo was Anton Vanko, otherwise known as the old man dying in the beginning of Iron Man 2. Although his son was known as Whiplash, Ivan Vanko was more of a cross between Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo. In the comics, “Ivan” was an alias Anton used.
We’re gonna choose to believe that Yelena isn’t just making this name up and that the Russians really did have an armored hero called the Crimson Dynamo, and if we’re lucky we’ll get to see him in a flashback of some future MCU project. After all, there’s that Armor Wars series on the way…
Also, there’s one thing that Crimson Dynamo has over the Red Guardian: he was immortalized in the lyrics of a song by a member of The Beatles. Paul McCartney and Wings have a tune called “Magneto and Titanium Man” which involves “a robbery” where “the Crimson Dynamo came along for the ride.” It’s great, and it’s on Wings Venus & Mars album.
Thor
Yelena’s line about how a “god from space” doesn’t “need to take an ibuprofen” after a fight is kinda priceless.
Mutants in the MCU
Dreykov tells Natasha that they were searching for the “genetic potential in infants.” Sure, this could mean anything like how athletic someone might grow up to be, but is there a chance they could also have been searching for a mysterious x-factor in a baby’s DNA?
James Bond
Natasha is watching one of the lesser-regarded Bond flicks, Moonraker. Of course, she still knows every word.
Dreykov gets a classic “Bond villain monologue” wherein a baddie spells out his plans for world domination before a hero who he surely thinks is either neutralized or could be swayed to their cause.
Antonia/Taskmaster is a Bond Girl! Olga Kurylenko played Camille Montes, a Bolivian agent with a vendetta in Quantum of Solace.
Remnants of the Red Room
Black Widow was written by Eric Pearson, who also wrote Thor: Ragnarok.
So… Natasha probably couldn’t taste that peanut butter and jelly sandwich from Endgame, right? That’s too bad.
It doesn’t seem that “Fanny Longbottom” is a thing from Marvel Comics, but as Mason points out it is most certainly a real name. Also, Yelena’s dog in the post-credits scene is named “Fanny.”
We get an explanation for Natasha’s blonde look in Infinity War here, as Mason gave her the hair dye. But the way it’s presented here feels slightly like a sisterly tribute to Yelena, which is really sweet.
Natasha makes a crack about “the cavalry” as Ross’ troops close in, but folks hoping that’s an Agents of SHIELD reference are probably going to be sorely disappointed.
Dreykov’s pheromone trick that he has implanted in the Widows (and Natasha in particular) leads to this scene playing out like when RoboCop tries to arrest Dick Jones in the classic 1987 film.
“Thank you for your cooperation,” Natasha tells Dreykov with a smirk after getting him to monologue his evil plans. This is as close as we get to a Black Widow catchphrase – she also ended a veiled interrogation with Loki using the exact same words in The Avengers.
The Post-Credits Scene
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) is back after her appearances in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. If we had to hazard a guess, she’s putting together a team of “Dark Avengers” or “Thunderbolts” for the MCU.
Florence Pugh is indeed confirmed to appear in the upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series, as well.
We went into much more detail about what the post-credits scene means for the future of the MCU right here.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });

This week in Armie Hammer #10 (May 12)
Well this has been a week of content for Armie’s armada! Or Armie’s army...or whatever the 5 of you who read this prefer.
Snarky Armie has returned to social media with a glorious tweet about the Met Gala. A lifetime of society events with family and promotional events aren't everyone’s cup of tea. And his appears to be running over. He was photographed in NY just prior to the event, presumably for work.
Armie posted several song lyrics on twitter this week . From fantastic musicians -Tom Waits and the Nine Inch Nails. He has great taste in music selecting great poets like Tom Waits and some classic songs from the NINs. Of note, Trent Reznor from NIN scored the Social Network which was Armie’s breakthrough role. The lyrics certainly speak of angst and transition to me.(Ok and heroin..but I pray to God he isn't doing that.)
Armie received some good news from fans this week, who nominated him for an audience choice award via Broadway.com for Straight White Men.
As May 30th approaches, Ben Wheatley has been posting updates on instagram about Rebecca including location shots. The badges are a lovely touch and somehow both eccentric and lovely- a du Maurier quote that actually harkens back to Charlotte Bronte and Jane eyre (to my mind). The publicity surrounding Rebecca has been pointedly referring to this movie as an adaptation of the novel as opposed to a remake of the Olivier vehicle. Jane Goldman has done some amazing screenplays inc Stardust by Neil Gaiman, Kickass, Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children, both Kingsman movies and the Woman in black. She’s also working on a Game of Thrones prequel. So her work on Rebecca is another quality piece of this puzzle.
The most exciting news from Rebecca comes with the casting of the incomparable Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs Danvers. FINALLY! To see Armie and  KST go toe to toe will be so thrilling for me (having loved the book and the movie so much). Mrs Danvers is such a nuanced role and KST and Armie certainly radiate a sense of belonging that the 2nd Mrs De Winter (Lily James) doesn’t.
Andre Aciman’s title cover for Find me has been released and he has tweeted another location in Rome where Elio and Sammy have a glass of wine. I hope Armie is recording that audiobook too. If so I will be weeping in the car listening to that too!
Finally Armie hosted the Steppenwolf Gala fundraiser in Chicago on Saturday night. He looked leaner and his hair (kind of a fade?) looked amazing. He looked leaner than the Montreal pictures from Dreamland and recent LA photos. He invented a drinking game for the audience and looked to be enjoying himself.
I love this no-fucks-to-give Armie. In his favourite suit (yes. I’m guessing). Strolling down the street in a bathrobe. Using a plane blanket as a shawl (haven't we all?).”Serving looks”.
As usual, it’s your decision on how to live your life, coming out, staying in, getting married, breaking up. Your work and your choices are yours.
Love is messy, like life.
No-one gets what they deserve. Things don't happen for a reason. That’s BS. Tell that to a parent whose child has cancer. Or who has been widowed with small children. Or abused.Or been cheated on.Or lost their life savings.
No-one understands what goes on in a marriage. You may understand yours when you’ve experienced the dissolution of one. Sat in family court for a day awaiting your case. Youth is such a gift, but what you learn growing up is very hard won and so precious. Nothing prepares you for the losses and the heartburn. Each harking back to a younger one.
As always its your choice what to tell people, what to share, when to write, when to post. Just concentrate on being healthy mentally and physically. Love you Armie!
Love is love is love.
