just ended up sending in feedback about the layout to support. But I have to say it here too, this new layout is such a pain in the ass to figure out. I hated twitter's layout for the same reason, its so annoying to use and everything feels so cluttered and squished in and distracting... it's actually headache inducing.
I really wish I had the option to switch back. I wish there was an option to CHOOSE between the two layouts. I wish I had the choice to opt out of "testing" this thing.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" really should have been brought up before they even tried making this. It was fine before, and now the new layout is completely different and frustrating when it didn't need to be.
If I wanted Twitter's layout, I would have just fucking gone to Twitter.

sometimes I see queer discourse that is so fucking stupid and reductive and bad faith that it makes me want to study queer theory so that I'll have the credibility needed to get a word in against these suckers and to point them in the direction of writing discussing the topic and historical accounts and most of all TO GET TO HAVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT QUEERNESS THAT ISN'T PEOPLE TRYING TO BITE EACH OTHERS' DICKS OFF BECAUSE THEY DISAGREE but if I were to go into queer studies I'd have to dedicate all of my time to it because that's how academia is formatted and I'd have no time for all the other things I live for like art and writing and cooking food and hanging out with friends and hanging out in nature and learning about science and the natural world and climbing rocks and rollerskating and having really freaknasty gay sex with friends

I just saw this post talking about Metatron saying Cas is in love with humanity (Dean) and explaining how this is true because Cas loved being human, despite what he has been through he enjoyed having human feelings and I must say that I agree.
Cas wanted to stay human. And I will die on this hill. Maybe I'll die alone there, but this is what I believe.

The fact that my beloved @eddiemunsons-missingnipple got shit on for writing a fic for specific people is literal proof that there's no winning for us fic writers.
You make Reader too specific in one way; you get shit on. You make Reader not specific enough; you get shit on. Even if you put warnings/make it obvious that this fic is NOT FOR EVERYONE; you'll get shit on.
Like, what do you want us to do here? Make Reader as bland as a bowl of porridge so yall can fill in the rest? I can't speak for everyone but I know that would make writing the most miserable thing if I can't write Reader based on my own personal experiences and the way I think or interact with people.
Not every single fic is going to be for you, and that's okay! Just because one fic isn't for you, doesn't mean there aren't 500 other fics that will be for you. Don't like a fic? Don't read it. It costs NOTHING to just close a fic and read a different one if you don't like it.

I was raised atheist. My father was atheist, my mother agnostic, and neither of them bothered to teach me what religion even was, much less anything ABOUT religion except that involved some dude named "god" whose name we used in a lot of phrases.
(This led to some hilarious situations, such as when I thought the Bible was a poorly written fairy tale and also the time I tried to found my own religion, but those are stories for a different day.)
A thing I've noticed a lot is that Christians and especially ex-Christian atheists assume that my childhood was Just Like Theirs, Minus God.
They assume that OF COURSE I celebrated Christmas, in fact, I probably love Christmas more than they do because I never got dragged to church.
They assume that OF COURSE I grew up with Christian neuroses about gender roles, relationships, and sex! When they find out I'm queer and trans, they automatically assume that the process of accepting myself involved a lot of messy reckoning with my entire upbringing and worldview.
They assume that OF COURSE I was raised to never question things and to be seen rather than heard and to defer to authority, and that the process of becoming the loudmouthed nonconforming scientist I am now was one of rebellion.
But none of these are true! While my childhood was deeply authoritarian and bigoted, it was not in a Christian way. My experiences are fundamentally different from those of someone raised Christian.
And the idea that all of these Christian things are just default childrearing practices, as opposed to specific manifestations of a particular cultural and religious context, is one of the hard to combat ways that Christian supremacy works. By convincing people that these things are not Christian, they're ubiquitous, they assimilate people into a Christian context even if the victims don't necessarily convert.

I just had the stupidest conversation I have ever had with a customer service person. Nothing will ever top this stupidity.
Me: I am calling about a loan that needs to be discharged due to my mother's death.
Them: Sure. I can help. She will just need to write a letter stating why the loan needs discharged.
Me: but she's dead.
Them: Well we need a letter from the borrower on file as to why the discharge is being requested.
Me: Nearly throws my phone in rage.

Okay, I think I've figured out the most succinct way to explain my issue with a lot of modern fandom takes and how a lot of younger fans engage with media.
The commercialization of narrative-themed meta material has caused fans to view extrapolation as anathema.
Let me explain, less succinctly.
Something can be featured prominently in the source material, but if a piece of official meta comes out that says that thing isn't true, modern fandom goes "That's not canon, then," instead of going "Whoever wrote this was clearly at-odds with the source material on this point."
Further, this leads to people saying that if the creators haven't confirmed something in this meta material, then there's no way to prove it's canon. They demand "word of god" to explain the story to them like revealing the moral of a fable to a five year old over actually engaging with the narrative as it was presented in its original form and paying attention to how implications in that narrative make the story into something cohesive, something mentally engaging, something emotionally powerful.
If two characters' interactions in the source material are built entirely on a series of literary devices used almost exclusively to indicate romantic affection and both emotionally self-destruct when they lose the other one, but the creators don't say that they're in love using the words "they are in love," then many fans insist that the relationship isn't canon. Likewise, if two characters make it excessively clear through the course of a narrative that they're not in a traditional romantic relationship, up to and including rejecting offers for dates and referring to their relationship as "not serious," but then someone involved in the development of the source material says that they are madly in love with one another, then many fans insist that the relationship is canon.
It's literally a subversion of the writing rule of thumb generally expressed as "show, don't tell." A good narrative assumes those engaging with it will do so in the way with which the media in question is generally engaged—it wants to show you, and let you understand what you're seeing. Insisting that you need someone "on the inside" to tell you what every line of dialogue and character interaction "actually" means, even if what is shown is dramatically different from what you're told, is certainly your prerogative—but it's not the way most narratives are meant to be experienced.
To relate this directly to the fandom in which I'm most entrenched, there's a clear division between the kind of fan I am and the kind of fan who waits for "creator confirmation" before calling anything canon:
I am in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII fandom, and a great deal of modern fans are in the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Series fandom.
Everyone engages with media differently, of course, and it's definitely nice to feel like you're "in the know" when it comes to things that aren't explicitly stated in a given piece of media. However, if you aren't willing to use simple math to confirm a specific important year in the timeline because the Ultimania didn't tell you to, you're in no place to correct people who did the bare minimum extrapolation necessary to figure out that 1950 plus 27 is 1977, or that 2007 minus 1977 is 30.

Always
Tw: Vent, bigotry and a little self loathing.
You get up on what used to be an exiting day that now is instead an impossible task. Soon your family wakes up too, you got up early to anxious to get any good sleep. You go to open presents with your family getting gifts you love... except a small baby book with lovely handwritten notes. Each given with loving sentiment but it's not really for you.
"We are so proud of you and be your support even though your getting older and eventually won't need it. You'll always be our baby we'll love you no matter what."
You read the note but know it's not meant for you, its for HER. You can't help but feel jealous fighting off tears. They will never love how you really are, their love is conditional even if they say otherwise.
They openly speak about people like you with such hate not knowing that the kid next to them is part of the community you call siners pedophiles gromers or just plain insane. You just nod along pathetically just to avoid conflict. You know theyll argue with you and yell until you take their side, it's happiness before and you always give up.
"Your just a confused child seeking attention." It's never been said so bluntly but that's their opinion, if you don't agree with them then your opinion doesn't matter because your their child and they don't have to respect you.
It hurts how close you to haveing that love the love they give only to who you pretend to be. How close you are to being exactly what they want, so you pretend and work in an effort to be truly cared for but you know it will never work after all you'll always be their baby.

I can't do this cold food shit
But everything feels like too much
I saw a recipe for "low calorie casserole"

I'm physically limited by not being able to eat dairy either
I can't just eat a low fat cheese stick or smth
I'm exhausted
