anon please, i’m not avoiding saying anything about jegulus, i genuinely don’t know her.

but, fine, let’s imagine i do.

i don’t enjoy it as a pairing, not because i think it’s unfeasible [in my view, the joy of fanfiction is taking a completely implausible premise and making it work], but because i don’t like the way that the fandom which has built up around jegulus expects certain tropes and characterisations which turn the characters into just profoundly uninteresting people.

and this is the case for all the marauders and marauders-adjacent characters [i’m looking at you, fanon barty crouch jr.!], undoubtedly because the era has so little actual canon material that fanon becomes canon and authors run from there. and that’s great - anyone writing stories in a world hostile to hobbies and creativity is a triumph - but the standard way of writing jegulus which has coalesced around this fanon doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.

there are many jegulus tropes i don’t love: how it always becomes a parallel wolfstar [james and peter would be the cultured choice if we have to do that]; how it’s just drarry but in the seventies [when the cultured choice for that is lucius malfoy/arthur weasley]; how james becomes a tediously good person when the evidence of canon is that he’s a bit of a dick; how it relies on an exaggerated portrayal of orion and walburga’s abusive parenting which misses the fact that regulus evidently colluded with them against sirius; how it assumes the marauders aren’t intensely codependent [sirius mentions-lily-once black is definitely going to let his brother hang around with them, sure]; how snape is sometimes there and always a knob. james and regulus are also so similar in terms of background, social position at school etc. that there’s no juicy spark [as in snack, for example]. and, of course, prongsfoot is canon.

and so on… 

but the biggest reason i can’t get into it? 

regulus is a death eater, and not by mistake.

now, we all love a fluffy no-voldemort au, but unless that is a jegulus author’s stated setting, they are going to have to deal with the fact that regulus fucking loves the dark lord. this is a teenage boy who has press clippings about voldemort’s terrorism taped above his bed. he knows exactly what he’s getting into and he likes it.

indeed, my reading of deathly hallows is that regulus’ decision to go and get the locket has absolutely nothing to do with a damascene conversion that conducting a campaign of sectarian violence against muggles and muggleborns is bad, but that learning of the existence of the horcrux - and also voldemort’s lack of respect towards his property, kreacher [after all, we see an attitude expressed canonically by wizards that other people have no right to interfere in how you treat your slaves] - makes clear to him that the dark lord’s aims are not oligarchy, with those from pureblood families ruling in happy condescension over a ministry which is fundamentally unchanged, but ruling in majesty as an immortal absolute monarch. his death is a repudiation of his beliefs, yes, but it is a repudiation of the fact that he believed voldemort was his champion, rather than that he believed voldemort was wrong.

and, actually, i don’t think this in and of itself makes jegulus insurmountable. james is a pureblood, and while there is absolutely no evidence in his few canon appearances that he harboured blood-supremacist views, the very fact of his background would allow a complacency which might let him overlook some of regulus’ opinions [think, for example, about ron’s attitude towards house elves]. equally, we have no evidence that regulus couldn’t completely disavow his former beliefs.

but, it requires the fact that regulus isn’t just a tiny baby who aspires to join a terror group by mistake to actually be dealt with, and i have never seen a single piece of jegulus which does so.

Okay, so... wow, where do I even begin?

Well, we all know that the boys are all whore knee for you, so their desires are always lingering beneath the surface

Obviously though, everything sexual done with you would be 1000% consensual - they'd never force themselves on you, and if you weren't into sex, or you never wanted them to touch you like that, then they wouldn't. Besides, they have other means of relieving themselves, but I'll get into that later...

Sometimes you do it just to tease them, but hey, if they're going to tease you, then you're going to do it right back

I can just imagine something similar to the pool scene in the fic happening again, or maybe one of them is purposely walking around in a sleeveless shirt, or a crop top, or even simply without a shirt on to entice you or some shit like that - just to tease you

Cue you thinking about them touching you, having their arms wrapped around you, or even marking their bare skin, maybe going so far as to imagine yourself dragging your tongue across their stomach or something

*Beast mode activated* - literally the quickest way to make them feral is think about touching them and/or them touching you

Seeing you flustered, though, is one of their favourite sights to behold, so of course they can tease you back, making images appear in your mind about what they want to do to you

Anyways, back to my point on consent - nothing gets them more hot and bothered than knowing the fact that you want them, too. To know you crave their touch as badly as they crave you is the sweetest feeling in the world. To them, there's truly nothing like the feeling of knowing that the one you love needs you as badly as you need them, so yeah, you thinking about how badly you want them - to touch you, to tease you, to please you in any and every way they know how - drives them wild

The others reluctantly agree to stop questioning said man about it to respect your privacy. Besides, they'll find out all in due time, and they can just talk to you about what you like - communication is key

Perhaps some of them are more vanilla than the others to start, and there's nothing wrong with that - of course they want to go all out the first time you both make love, but even they know you have limits. They are demonic entities after all, and they don't want to hurt you, or scare you away

They're all definitely big on praising and worshipping you, wanting to mark you as theirs for the others to see, even if the marks are something only they can actually notice, like lingering touches of their soul intertwined with yours, or the way their scent is now intertwined with yours

Speaking of your soul, and the fact that they can feed off of a person's energy, if you ever allowed them to even so much as taste the energy of your soul while they were making love to you, they would go absolutely feral

*Cue the snarling and their eyes flashing black*

Literally, the significance of that moment would mean so much to them - the fact that you trust them enough, that you care for them enough to allow them to so much as touch your soul's energy makes them so unbelievably happy, a warmth spreading throughout their entire being

If you were into it and wanted them to, they definitely wouldn't mind pleasing you while the others watched - doesn't matter how many of them are there, or who it is that you want at the time, whoever you choose will just be content to be included

You want two of them at a time? Three? Four? All of them? They're more than happy to oblige

Definitely leads to some competition between them at times to see who can please you the best, or who can give you the most orgasms - leads to some pretty intense rounds with them if that's the case

Your comfort and well being is their number one priority - if there's ever a time where you want to stop, or anything like that (maybe you use a safe word or something), they're immediately stopping and comforting you in any and every way they know how

It's different than simply letting them feed off of your energy since this would actually be taking a part of your soul for them to keep rather than just absorbing some of your soul's energy which can easily be replenished and replaced

Anyways, the ritual essentially takes place in an extravagant chamber with candles lit all around the room, a large, plush bed in the centre where they each take turns making love to you while the others watch and subsequently get themselves off, praises falling from their lips the whole time, constantly repeating "ours" over and over again, save for the one fucking you who get's to snarl out "mine"

The moment any sort of confirmation slips past your lips - you calling them yours right back, and/or so much as reassuring them that you're theirs - again, they go insane. This is everything they've ever wanted, and more, and every time they hear you say those words right back to them lets them know that you want them as much as they want you - it's all about that mutual possession, that reciprocity

As soon as they know the ritual has worked, and they see your eyes flash black, all hell breaks loose (quite literally) - now they don't need to worry about holding themselves back at all

Perhaps one of them is teasing you just a bit too much when it's his turn, and you get impatient, flipping your positions with a hand around his throat as your eyes flash black right then and there, you growling out for him to stop teasing you

Cue all of their eyes flashing back as they all rush over to you and whoever is on the bed with you to join you for the rest of the evening

Needless to say, you don't get much sleep that night, or any night when you let them indulge in their desires for that matter ;)
