The clout chaser mentality of all social media sites rotted our brain where we can't find value in our work unless it has a big number besides it.

Coined by the sweet @isasan347 , Fan Joy July is an art challenge I've created for myself!

I will be drawing one piece of colored fan art every single day of July that corresponds to a scene in various Linked Universe Fanfics.

This challenge is meant to push myself to draw daily, give back to writers who make this fandom so much fun, and give others a chance to read something new they may enjoy 😄

I will be choosing some fics myself that I've read and enjoy, but I would love if others recommended their favorite LU fic. This way I can pick one LU fan fiction to draw for all 31 days. Feel free to self promote as well!

To recommend me a fic, please comment or reblog this post with the link so that I can see it easier. Please avoid sending asks if you can, just because I tend to get overwhelmed when my inbox gets full 🥴🥲 hehe

I'll be taking recommendations from April 11-30. After that I'm going to start drawing so that I can be ready to post in July! ( This is gonna take me a while so I need all the prep time I can get haha).

**I'm not asking anyone else to do this challenge, but I would ADORE if anyone wanted to join me! Even if it isn't for the whole month. **(I can be your excuse if you've ever wanted to draw for a writer but were too shy hehe)

I've also seen one or two writers interested in how they could participate. I think that maybe if there is an artist you enjoy you could write something for a drawing they've done? I know there are a ton of very talented LU artists in the fandom, so that could be a good challenge for writers 😀

It's a game about being a landowner in a small town. The game is anti-monopoly but the solution to monopolies is small business. A lot of people mistake being anti-monopoly for being anti-capitalist. Being anti-monopoly is a fairly common point even for libertarians to hold.

And once again for the people who take offense to this: the game's politics are right wing. This doesn't mean I'm calling you a trump supporter for playing it or whatever. It means the game is literally about being a landowner. I enjoy this game and I am a communist. Given the lack of understanding of class, you are probably right wing, you are probably a liberal, but not for playing stardew valley.

Projecting onto soap again because it's been a while I've decided it's time... love ya, shampoo :)

Everyone looks at soap and slaps a label on him. He's arrogant l. He's air-headed. He's an idiot. He's horrible at following orders. He's stupid. He's here out of sheer luck. He's a loudmouth.

And he doesn't do anything to fight them. Just lets them think what they want, maybe even leans into it a bit.

Could he prove all of those statements wrong? Sure, easily. But it's not worth it. Not to him. Plus it's so much easier to flaunt displaced disappointed than it is to hide the real thing.

And maybe he kinda likes it. Like it's his own little secret that nobody knows about. If everyone wants to think a load of gobshite about him then fine, who is he to say otherwise, right? If they want to talk or laugh about him behind his back, then who is he to stop them? If it ruins his reputation, well, it doesn't matter because he's still where he is, right?

Maybe ghost notices. Slowly but surely. At first he thinks all the same things that everyone else does. Mactavish is loud, arrogant, doesn't know when to shut up, oblivious, irritating.

But the longer he observes soap, the more he sees. That sometimes when he smiles it doesn't quite reach where it should. How sometimes the beams of light that seems to project off the man, serves to shadow his eyes. How when he talks it all just that. Nothing of importance, just to fill the silence. Always the worst after a harsh mission with too many greenies. At first he thinks it's because soap needs it, then he sees the dead look in his eyes and he knows that all he wants to do is shut up. It dawns on him that it's for the greenies.

He realizes that soap isn't arrogant, just that there's always that one person that nobody wants to be. There's always that one that grabs attention, that distracts. It's all an act to soap.

Sure soap is irritating, but ghost sees soap do it on purpose. When tensions are high, and all anyone wants to doo it yell or hist someone to pet it out. He's seen soap do it plenty of times. Hell, he's had soap walk up to him, and spark a fight on the mats.

He sees in the dead of night how soap stays up scribbling furiously in his journal, watched him tear pages out. Watched him be anything but what everyone sees him as.

He wonders why. Why offer yourself up to the world as something so unlikable, when there was someone else underneath?

Ghost has noticed. Those are almost the exact words he thinks to himself when the brit walks into the rec room at ass crack o'clock in the morning. Ghost has noticed. But he won't say anything... he thinks thought.

"Why do you do it?"

Play dumb. Play dumb, Mactavish. "Do what?" Wooow so smooth.

"You know what."

"Why not."

"People might like you more."

"They should like what I show them. I'm not exactly hiding."

"Why do you do it?" Ghost asks again. Soap doesn't know what he's getting at here, why does he want to know?

"Because it's easy." It's the truth... depending on perspective.

"That's not why. And it isn't easy." Ghost shakes his head. Ghost knows. It cycles through his mind.

"It is. It's easy for me." He means that. Just maybe not in the way ghost takes it. It's easy enough to ignore the talking and whispers, and the looks. It's easy enough to 'yes and' the rumors. But that's not what he means. He means it's easier to accept the disappointment when he knows it's what people already expect of him. It not so easy to let everyone down because they put him on a pedestal. It's easy to ignore false accusations, when he know that it doesn't say anything about who he actually is. It's not so easy to have someone see you for who you are and say you're not enough, or that they don't like you. So, yea, it's just easier.

Steve spending the night at Eddie’s because his parents are home and they’ve been arguing so he doesn’t really wanna be at home. Didn’t go to Robin because her parents might not let him stay the night and also Robin has work tomorrow and Steve doesn’t. The odd case of them not having shift together.

So he ends up with Eddie and in the morning he is having breakfast with Eddie and Wayne and they discuss their plans for the day. Eddie and Wayne have some plans for the day. You know, to spend some quality family time maybe? Or maybe they have just some errands to run, stuff to figure out because of all the shit that went down during spring break.. Whatever, they have plans for the day and Steve.. doesn’t want to intrude any more than he already is so he is not going with them. Even when they say he can come too.

And it’s summer time so the kids are busy with whatever the teens are busy with. And Steve loves them dearly and loves spending time with them but he tries to give them space and not smother them with his worrying so yeah he can’t spend the day with them either. They’ll come to him if they need him.. He could always go bother Robin at work but going to your work place on your free day because you have nothing better to do sounds a little sad.. So maybe he’ll just have to suck it up and go back home then.

But then Eddie offers that he could stay. You know he doesn’t have to leave just because Wayne and Eddie do. Like he could stay, it’s fine. They’ll be back by 6 or so and they could have dinner together then? And since Steve really really really doesn’t want to go home right now he accepts (after asking about thousand times if it’s really okay tho).

So soon he is left alone with a “Feel free to educate yourself with my music collection while we’re gone” and see you laters. Steve didn’t really have any plans for today and he kinda left in a hurry too so he didn’t bring much stuff with him but oh well he’ll figure something out.

He starts collecting the breakfast dishes and well he could wash them. He has the time and it would be just nice little gesture since the Munsons let him stay and all. And then it just makes sense to wipe the counters and the table after that. Like who would wash the dishes and then just leave crumbs all over the place? Oh. And I guess he just got some of those crumbs to the floor now. Well it’s just a quick little sweep. Could vacuum the whole place now too since he started. But first he needs to declutter a bit because goddamn Eddie why are your clothes and books just everywhere. Might as well do some laundry while he’s at it.

When Eddie and Wayne come back home around 6pm the place they’re in for a quite a shock. Not only is the place spotless but they’re greeted with the smell of food as well. “Oh you’re back! I’m making dinner, it’s just about done” Steve welcomes them enthusiastically but start to doubt himself a little after seeing the surprised faces. “I.. hope that’s okay”

Only then Steve realizes he may have got little carried away with his cleaning spree. Like maybe cleaning the windows was a tad bit too much.. Ugh he so hopes they’re not too weirded out.. Honestly he didn’t even realize he basically spent all day doing household chores that and it’s not even his own house. He glad the Munsons don’t comment on it too much tho, other than “you didn’t have to” and slightly awkward thank yous.

They start eating and now they drown Steve in compliments. (“Wow this is so good, what brand is this?” “Uhm.. it’s not a-.. I made it” “…Like from scratch?!” “Yeah..” “Holy shit dude this is seriously so fucking delicious” “Language. But he is right son, this is fucking delicious”)

At some point during dinner Wayne makes a comment about it starting to rain and Steve lets out a shocked gasp “my laundry!” and rushes out to collect it from outside where he hung it to dry. Wayne asks amusedly if Steve is a housewife or something, just ready to crack little jokes there but then spots the dopey smile on his nephew’s face, gaze still lingering in the doorway where Steve run off to. He smiles knowingly at Eddie when he finally looks back at him, now starting to blush and trying to stammer some sort of reply.

Steve comes back in and they finish dinner and hang out a bit together until Steve and Eddie go to Eddie’s room. Steve again apologizes because he got so carried away and hope he didn’t cross any lines. Eddie little amusedly asks if Steve really thinks they’d be mad at him for tidying up the place? Just helping them out a little so they can relax? Like in all seriousness, after all that shit show that happened during spring, Wayne could use a little break and just relax.

(“And you couldn’t?” “Well sure I could, but in this case he needs it more. If you haven’t noticed I’m not much of help in the cleaning department” “Oh yeah, I’ve noticed” “Hey!” “What? You asked!”)

Eddie then asks if Steve “educated himself” with the music. Steve tells to educate him himself. Eddie takes that as a challenge.

Michael never really fit in anywhere. Maybe that's part of why i like him so much. Or maybe i'm just projecting lol – but hear me out.

Michael Shelley maybe really didn't have a purpose in life. Maybe doing research on his trauma was all he had. He was too good, too pure for his human life - a life that probably just wasn't great in general.

Now other people without other purpose in life than supernatural trauma reasearch become happy fulfilled avatars, like Mike Crew. But Mike Crew chose to serve his entity. Michael, on the other hand, was sacrificed to an entity that didn't fit him, that was the opposite of him. He was naive and kind and would never lie to anyone, and the Spiral is the incarnation of gaslighting and lies. Which means the Spiral wasn't good for him, but he also couldn't become a good Spiral avatar vessel. Helen seems to be able to coordinate humanity and inhumanity. Michael wasn't, because Michael Shelley wasn't made for becoming this.

In general - i'm still thinking about how Gertrude stopped the ritual by making Michael the Distortion. Maybe it was just because it disturbed the ritual and it needed to get used to its new identity. Or maybe it was because Michael just wasn't a good distortion. He wasn't strong or talented or spirally enough to complete the ritual. God, i made him tragic.

I gotta say: This seems to contradict what i’ve said before, but i’m only talking about Michael and Michael Shelley as one person to simplify this. What i really mean is the Distortion could never be good at being itself while having Michael’s mind.

Can you imagine? Not only being tied to the embodiment of your failure, but still being your failure. Thinking with a mind that represents the opposite of what you are, that contradicts your very essence. That stops you from living up to your full potential, that stops you from being good at being you.
