Summary: Player says something during a mission, but why is Carmen so affected

“You’re closing to your target, Red”

As usual, Player kept a close eye on his boss and friend; he wouldn’t let anything pass him, not since he met the girl, started working with her and discovered that nothing was more important than keeping his favourite thief safe.

“I can’t believe V.I.L.E would steal something like this” The reply was playful and had a hidden amusement in it.

“Queen Victoria’s diary? I can see the appealing. She had an era named after her because of the changes she brought: industrial, cultural, political, scientific, and military. Did you know that her reign was longer than any other monarch who preceded her?”

She saw red’s signal, she was leaping through the roofs of England like she was one of those summer pigeons that littered the city, so elegant, so determined. He liked that about Red, so driven to follow what she believed in. He guessed that’s why they are friends, because he also puts everything on their work, even if his wicked abilities rest on a computer screen.

“She also married his cousin Albert because she was unmarried and had to live with her mother, which she absolutely hated.”

“That’s right! She was love-struck and even propose to him! He became prince and advisor to the Queen and they lived a happy life until he died, and Queen Victoria wore black for the rest of her life. Maybe one day you and Julia could have something like that. Minus the death part.”

Carmen stopped at that and even though she tried to be quiet, Player could hear her wince slightly and sighed. Did something happened? Did she landed badly on a rooftop? (that was unlikely but still), did she saw Tigress or someone? “What is it Carms? You are awfully quiet”

“Player, you know you are my best friend and I tell you everything, right?”

He stayed quiet, afraid to even breath and be heard

“I don’t like where this is going.”

Carmen took out her phone and transfer them to a video call, she sat on the edge of the roof and silently took off her hat and looked at the sky. Player wasn’t worried about the mission, they weren’t on a time limit but it was weird for Carmen to pause an op like that.

“Have you ever heard me talk about Julia like that?”

He scoffed a little, knowing perfectly well how she rambles sometimes about the french agent.

“You have talked about her a lot. Not in a romantic way but this is the most interest I’ve seen you put on a person, even more than Gray”

“Okay but, in a romantic way? Never. I saw Gray as a big brother, as I see you as a little one. With Julia, yes I see her as an ally and want to be close to her but like a friend or partner in crime, never as a girlfriend.”

To say he was getting confused is a misunderstanding, why did Carmen tough that she needed to tell him that, he was just joking about her and Julia marrying and having a good relationship, he knew their lives were too complicated for that.

“She is a nice person and a good agent, quite clever and if you were to date her I would help you and support-”

“Player, I’m aromantic and asexual. I don’t feel that kind of romantic or sexual attraction. Just good old platonic love for me please, I don’t want that other crap even near me”

He went quiet for a second. Had he just assumed his best friend sexuality? Like some kind of millennial? He knew about aces and aros but he never thought that Carmen would be in the spectrum. She was so passionate about everything and the way she talked and acted about Gray… he just never thought of her as anything but romanticly active.

“Are you okay with this? You aren’t saying anything. Should I worry?”

He snapped out of it as soon as she said that

“Of course it’s alright, why wouldn’t it be? You are my friend and I’m sorry about the comment, won’t happen again now that I know not to make them.”

The redhead got up and dust herself, she ended the call and switched again to the comms.

“Glad we discussed that buddy. So the end of that and time for action, those diaries won’t return by themselves to the museum”

She put her hat on and that mysterious wind that followed her no matter the location of the job, blown gently for her.

“Okay Red, you are on. I recommend using the roof entryway-

Its just...so exhausting, you know?

Like for one theres that super popular blog with the aphobic joke as their url and like, I have to wonder everytime I see a blog I follow reblog them if that person just doesnt know, is aphobic, or just doesnt care. All I know is that by sharing thier posts you are making ace people feel less safe and aphobes feel more safe on your blog.

And legit the Ace Reigen HC has been around for a long time but since the anime came back there has been a barrage of aphobia in the fandom to the point that I dont even feel comfortable going into the tags. I even saw a picture of him that was edited to say that he is aphobic. Like there are fans who hate ace people so much that they dont even want us to feel safe liking a show and will flood the tags with hostility against us to make us leave.

And that's just one show. Ace people get absolutely attacked for saying any character is ace. Like even characters who have no confirmed sexuality. It's always wrong becuase of one bs reason or another. No one bats an eye when you HC a character who has only dated/shown interest in men as a lesbian but god forbid you HC a character as ace. Ace people can't even see themselves in characters without triggering an unholy barrage of hate against them.

We can't vent about being excluded from the lgbt+ community without being called 'cringey asexies who want to be opressed and steal resources from real queer people'. We can't HC characters as ace without getting accused of being bigoted. We cant offer outreach to young people in our community without getting called predators who want to sexualize children. We cant use the word queer without being attacked. We cant make jokes about dragons or cake without getting accused of being ableist.

Like the nature of asexual discourse has legit gotten to the point where I am terrified to attend any pride event wearing ace apparel, or even mention in these circles that I'm ace. I used to be so proud of being ace and so happy to find a community that welcomed me and now I never want to tell anyone that I'm asexual. I'm ashamed of it. And I am constantly petrified that any person I think is safe is gonna turn around and start spouting aphobic rhetoric or acting like we are a joke. That's what 'the discourse' has done. It has litterally terrorized an entire generation of ace people into hiding, which is exactly what aphobes and exclusionists want.

And not to claim that there are no bad apples in our community every group has them and as far as I can tell what is left of the asexual community on tumblr has been trying to weed them out, but there are a LOT of blog pretending to be ace people in an attempt to smear us in the eyes of the public. It's incredibly common, and almost impossible to combat.

Not to mention that almost ALL ace people are ace and. Ace and bi, ace and gay, ace and aro, ace and neurodivergent, ace and a poc, ace and trans, ace and queer, ace and disabled. The stereotype of the 'cishet ace skinny rich white girl with dyed hair' is such a strawman.

And people love to take things ace people say way out of context. Ace/aro people express a desire to have more sex/romance neutral queer spaces? Suddenly we hate all gay people and think all gay bars are dens of sin and that queer people are all sexual monsters. We talk about the concept of QPRs? Well clearly we have no friends and constantly ask queer people if they are dating or in a QPR and are appropriating queer culture in am attempt to be oppressed. We come up with a unique signifier that allows ace people to subtly but proudly display thier asexuality? Nope we are just shitting all over the graves of dead gay people.

Like legit asexuality has become such a fucking joke it's nearly impossible to tell what is a legitimate problem with our community and what is just some bs that an exclusionist blog decided to come up with to fuck with us or something that was taken super out of context and turned into a joke.

Just...being ace on tumblr is so fucking exhausting and I'm so tired of it. I'm so tired.

We get this ask a lot. And while I don’t mind answering, it does get a lilll annoying sometimes since we’re essentially repeating ourselves constantly. Before you ask, please check our ask box! It will ALWAYS give our request status!

From now on if we receive requests when they’re closed, we’re going to delete the message entirely. You’re free to ask again when they’re open, but we need breaks!

“Can allistic/neurotypical people follow?”

Yes! So long as you’re respectful of stimming and understand it’s not an aesthetic or something to make fun of.

“It says there’s two mods, but I only really see Mod Joker post.”

There is! But Mod Boo is rather, well, shy. We both are, tbh. I’ve just gotten used to talking a lot on this blog. And to tell ya the truth I invited her to mod this with me because she considered making a blog but wasn’t sure how she’d do it, and was worried she’d be too awkward/quiet. But she actually tends to see your messages a lot! She just tends to let me handle things. I use the same method stimmybby uses! His tutorial’s right here!

I use photoshop and for backgrounds (depending on what type of background), I use paint tool SAI. I made a tutorial on how I do it here!

Absolutely! So long as credit is given and you’re not in our dni, then use it as you like! Discourse posts, art, vent posts, promo posts, whatever floats your boat!

“Can I use your gif/s?”

As long as there’s credit to us for the gif/s and you don’t apply to our dni, you’re free to!

“How can I credit you?”

There’s a few ways! Such as

- Including the credit in the post and/or under the cut (this is the best way people can access the original post and see the credit!

- Include the credit in the post’s captions

- Include the credit in the tags

- Include a link in the post to another post that has the credits in it

- Saying you got the gif/s from us in the post

“What are bad/wrong ways to ”“credit”“ you?”

- Saying “I don’t own these gifs”

- Saying “credit to the original owner(s)/gifmaker(s)

- Straight up not saying you took these gifs from people/including in no credits

- Claiming the gif/s are yours/you made them

If I see any of these I WILL publicly call you out on it and you WILL be blocked immediately thereafter. That block will not be lifted.

Reactionary Exclusionary Gatekeeper. Meaning people who try to exclude certain queer people from queer spaces. Such a biphobes, transphobes, aphobes, panphobes, and so on.

There can be a number of reasons why you’re blocked, and I’m not afraid to block people as I want this place comfortable and safe for the mods and followers. So there’s several reasons as to why.

- You apply to our DNI (see BYF)

- You’re a (insert harmless children’s cartoon) critical blog (I tend to block those due to them saying LGBT+phobic things)

- You get into kin drama

- You’re an ace discourse, pan discourse, bi discourse, and/or overall REG discourse blog (this does not mean I block inherently block discourse blogs! I block the shitty ones)

- You’re a spam/porn/etc bot (if I’ve gotten this wrong, lemme know! I tend to block shady and empty blogs for this reason unless their desc/url/etc says it’s empty/weird for a reason)

- You’re a blog that frequently posts/centers around one or more of my triggers

- You’re an aesthetic blog (though I tend to soft block for them. But this is NOT an aesthetic blog and stimmy is NOT an aesthetic)

- You’re an “anyone can interact” stim blog

- You’re a stim blog that steals/doesn’t credit the gifs they use

- I feel you and I are going to argue and I’m just saving us the trouble of future unpleasant encounter/s

- You’ve been shitty to my friends or just been shitty to people in general and I’ve noticed it

OTP? I’m a multishipper. I don’t even sort fics by ship anymore, I’m ace and often aro, so I tend to look for something that screams “family” to me. I’ve found it in weird places - in characters sleeping side by side, in characters being thoughtful and considerate of each other’s hangups, in groups dynamics. I’m a total sucker for any action that says “I love you” without actually saying “I love you”.
