i’m so sorry this is so long and jumbled please just stay with me 😭 (ps i love you and everything you write)

i unfortunately grew up in a house where celebrating christmas gave me a very guilty feeling because my mom hates the holiday, so we always celebrated to the very bare minimum. i’m finally in my own place and was so so excited to decorate but that sadness of not being able to decorate like this as a child is really hitting me, and i feel like maybe rhett maybe had the same situation growing up

i mean i really feel like rhett’s opportunity to celebrate christmas was squished by his father’s overall hatred of materialism, and they were always too busy to fully decorate with the handmade ornaments and paper chains and all of those little kids decorations that radiate ‘handmade christmas’

i feel like the first christmas that rhett and reader celebrate together, it’s a first for them to both feel actual holiday joy. the reader makes cookies and while they bake, reader and rhett decorate the tree that he dragged in (only because he insisted that they needed a real one, so he made you pick one out so he could chop it down)

i totally agree in that rhett would be so excited to go all out for christmas. you make your own ornaments and pick out some of the tackiest ones at the store, even getting one that’s like “our first christmas” 🥺 and you listen to christmas music every day and watch a christmas movie in bed all snuggled up. each room in the house is decorated top to bottom and you just feel so overjoyed with the christmas spirit and your love for rhett <3
