BEING A LIST OF THE THIRTEEN GREATEST RIVERDALE LINES, ON THE OCCASION OF THAT SHOW'S TERMINATION

As our much loved/hated show comes to an end, I feel compelled to record, for posterity, the greatest thirteen pieces of dialogue to spring from the pens of RAS and his henchmen. It was, of course, originally a top ten list, but I simply could not exclude a few of these treasures. Without further ado: 

13. 

“I dropped out in the 4th grade, to sell drugs, to support my nana.” 

“That means you haven't known the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school football.” 

Spoken by: an inmate of Leopold and Loeb Juvenile Detention Center, and Archie Andrews. 

In: 3 x 2 

Yeah, okay, this one had to be on the list. It’s funny, I’ll admit. It’s a great example of the overwrought semi-sincere melodrama that helped make this show so special. It’s low on the list largely because The Normies got their hands on it, so every time I hear someone make a reference I get all “do not cite the deep magic to me, witch.” 

12. 

“No! No! What are we supposed to do now? I’m horny as heck!”

Spoken by: Archie Andrews 

In: 7 x 16

Season 7 is undeniably dreadful, and yet there are diamonds in the rough. The occasion is the failure of a projector, just as Archie and Reggie prepare to watch a pornographic film. The utter desperation with which KJ Apa delivers this line is exquisite. One is made to feel they are witnessing a genuine tragedy. 

11. 

“Tonight, they’re making an exception and debuting a cover of the song my parents claim they were listening to the night Jason and I were conceived.” 

Spoken by: Cheryl Blossom. 

In: 1 x 1 

Really a fantastic line. A wonderful encapsulation of the casual absurdity of Cheryl’s character, and a foretaste of the lunacy we would plumb in later episodes and seasons. 

10. 

“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t fit in and I don’t want to fit in. Have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? That’s weird.” 

Spoken by: Jughead Jones

In: 1 x 10

A genuine classic. “High school football” before “high school football.” One is never entirely sure just how sincere the line is meant to be, both on a meta-level and in-universe. A perfect illumination of Jughead’s pretentiousness. It is made all the better by the occasional cuts to Lili Reinhard’s agonized face. 

9. 

“At the last dance, multiple students were murdered.” 

Spoken by: Principal Holden Honey. 

In: 4 x 2

Delivered as an explanation to Toni and Cheryl, as to why there would be no school dance this year. Principal Honey is in fact supremely rational in the cancellation of this dance. This being Riverdale, he is of course treated as an unreasonable tyrant. 

8. 

“Bro, I know all the secrets of this universe.” 

Spoken by: Archie Andrews (evil version)

In: 6 x 5 

Spoken as evil Archie reveals his evil plan to keep the parallel universes apart. KJ Apa’s delivery once again makes this line. He is comically sinister. Strangely, he sells it. 

7. 

“A Vughead kiss, right now, in the present might be precisely what it takes to save a future Bughead from imploding.” 

Spoken by: Jughead Jones. 

In: 2 x 14

One of those lines that both makes me laugh and makes me genuinely angry. This was a fairly early season, and this may have actually been the first line to get me asking, ‘did they genuinely write and deliver that?’ Extra points for use of the atrocious ‘Vughead’ portmanteau ship name rather than ‘Jeronica.’ 

6. 

“I’m the ultimate wild card. I am the daughter of The Black Hood. The nightmare from next door. I’m training with the FBI and I’m coming for you, you psycho bitch.” 

Spoken by: Betty Cooper

In: 4 x 14 

Just delicious. Another one of those lines that leaves you somewhat unsure whether or not the writers understood how genuinely hysterical it was. “The Nightmare from Next Door” sounds like an announcer hyping up a wrestler. Spoken with a raw sincerity by Lili Reinhart. Also points for the heavy homoeroticism between Betty and Donna. 

5. 

“For I am Cheryl Blossom, Queen of the Bees.” 

Spoken by: Cheryl Blossom.

In: 5 x 16. 

This one really doesn’t require any elaboration. 

4. 

“Elijah ascended…and I will, too.” 

Spoken by: Edgar Evernever.

In: 4 x 5. 

Admittedly, this one is only spectacular with context. But in context—the context being that Chad Michael Murray delivers this line while dressed like Evel Knievel and standing in a cartoon rocket right out of a Warner Bros cartoon—it becomes utterly magnificent. 

3. 

“It’s not queer baiting, it’s saving the world.” 

Spoken by: Veronica Lodge. 

In: 6 x 22. 

It’s actually hard for me to decide whether this one is funnier with or without context. Without context it’s wonderful, but it possibly becomes even funnier when you know that the context is that Veronica needs to kiss Cheryl to transfer superpowers into her body so she can turn into a Scarlet Witch knock-off and stop a magic comet summoned by Sephiroth an English wizard who is also the Devil. 

2. 

“If there’s no wedding reception, it means the Gargoyle King has won.” 

Spoken by: Kevin Keller. 

In: 3 x 12.

One of my personal favorites. This is a perfect line because like #3, it requires no real elaboration. There is absolutely no context in which it isn’t hysterical.

“Word of my exploits serving Nick his comeuppance has seeped into the demimonde of mobsters and molls my father used to associate with, so the five families are sending their youngest and brightest, their ‘princes,’ as it were to, well, come court the rare Mafia Princess who can belly up to the bar with the big boys.

Spoken by: Veronica Lodge. 

In: 2 x 20. 

This is, in my opinion, the all-timer. Every word is perfect. The rapid-fire alliteration. The use of the word ‘demimonde.’ The entirely unnecessary addition of ‘as it were.’ This is borderline Dr. Seuss. The fact that Camila Mendes delivered it without cracking a smile should have won her an Emmy. No. An Oscar. This line is Riverdale.

F- Favorite Position: If it wasn’t obvious, he wasn’t very skilled in knowing about many different positions and how to properly do them, so he typically has you both in missionary. He loves it when you ride him, though because he gets a wonderful angle of you and he loves watching the way he's able to make you feel.

G- Goofy (Are they serious at the moment, goofy, nervous, etc.): Often he gets a bit carried away at the moment before realizing what he does, causing him to get flustered and making him ask, "Does this feel okay?". So I think after he hangs out with you and Cove for the first time he realizes early on that Cove already likes you so he’d just try to act like nothing but the more you hang out the harder ignoring his feelings get. Derek’s reaction to Cove finding that out that he likes you would be worried cause he doesn’t want to make anything weird. Cove wouldn’t throw their friendship away just cause he’s got a crush on you. Derek would go down a spiral of “what if Cove hates me.” “What if they both never speak to me again.” So just make sure he knows you’re not going to ghost him over this😭

Holden Caulfield

So, I just finished “The Catcher in the Rye”, and it was very different from what I expected. This book has a reputation of being somewhat extreme, and making teenagers more angry, depressed or even violent because of its main character Holden. However, now that I’ve read it, I fail to see why. I can understand why at the time of its publication Holden’s internal monologue could’ve been seen as alarming, specially to adults, but not as much in the present time, and definitely not as extreme as it said to be. He’s also constantly called annoying, pretentious and an asshole, which he sometimes is, but once again, In my opinion, not to the extreme people present him as. I didn’t mind being inside of his head the entire novel, nor did I ever find him as insufferable as most people seem to, and definitely not a monster, if anything I had a lot of empathy and understanding towards him. 

To me, Holden simply came off as a lost 17 year old boy, grappling with grief, identity, and having lost his innocence at a very young age. He’s clearly suffering from depression, and is generally angry and disillusioned with the world, however given his implied experiences it’s only natural, even just the death of his brother prior to the events of the book cold easily explain his behaviour, however there’s definitely other elements, which choses not to reveal, that have contributed to his current state. 

To me, Holden never came off as extreme or violent, at least not enough to be sent to a psych ward or o incite the alarmed response people seem to have to his character. In fact, despite seemingly being done with the world, and not caring about anything anymore, Holden seems to have this constant thrive and need of protecting the world. Despite all of his utterly depressed, frustrated, and negative inner monologue, he’s constantly through out the novel, carrying out these little acts of kindness towards children. He helps two boys find a section of the museum, and explains to them what everything means, he helps a girl tie up her skates at the roller rink, and rubs off nasty messages left at schools so that the children don’t read them, and most notably he does anything and everything for his younger sister Phoebe.

Most of the time, he’s left in awe of the world when he interacts with these children, specially with Phoebe, it’s the only moments were he even says he feels happy. He seems to be impressed by children’s minds, and has this urge to protect and help them every time he encounters one, going to great lengths (such as buying a limited expensive album for his sister) in order to make their days better. Then, he hears a child sing the song that brings the name of the novel “the catcher in the rye”, he sings about a body catching another body in the rye,. When later in the novel he wonders about he’d want to do in the future, the song is the only thing that comes to mind. He imagines that he’s in that field, where children are playing near a cliff, and he’s the one that catches them and leads them away from the cliff, he’s the catcher in the rye. To him, this means saving children from losing their innocence as young as he did. It’s the only thing he can imagine himself doing. 

This truly shows that Holden, is in no way some disturbed violent mind, he’s just a 17 year old child, who lost his innocence at a very young age due to traumatic experiences which he’s only now processing, he’s also going through the grief of his brother’s death, which his parents don’t help with, his mother also suffering from depression, and his father always being away as a big shot lawyer. He’s disillusioned with the world and humanity, because most of his life experiences, and contacts with older role models have been very negative, including the one with his older brother whom he once had a good relationship with, but is now a shame to the family due to his work as a prostitute. He’s desperate for the children around him not to suffer the same fate. 

While he may seem utterly disgusted and done with the world, I think that he actually holds a lot of hope in his heart for his sister Phoebe and all the children he meets. Holden’s problem isn’t that he has no hope left, it’s that he has too much of it no matter how hard he tries to repress it. He holds a hope so great for the world, that he can’t help but stay despite his suicidal thoughts. Holden, fantasises about ending his life several times throughout the novel, but then, as soon as he’s even close to getting sick with a cold for example, he becomes extremely anxious, scared and even obsessive, thinking that he’s going to die, which he desperately doesn’t want to do. Even when he is attacked with those suicidal thoughts, which never last long, he’s always immediately reminded of Phoebe, and realises he couldn’t bare her going through grief. 

Holden desperately wants to stay in this world, and he’s constantly looking for reasons to do so, he’s in awe of the purity and innocence of children, and wishes the world would be kinder and better for them. Holden is lonely angry and depressed, which can result in him acting violently in instances, but essentially, he’s desperately trying to improve the world around him, and repeatedly not giving up on it. As he puts it, he never hates anything for long.

Well, this had been my small Holden rant, however do be aware that, I'm writing this approximately 30 minutes after finishing the book, so my ideas aren't completely settled, and given that I haven't looked AT ALL into actual analysis of the novel, I may be way off, and made a fool of myself but oh well. At the end of the day they're almost no wrong answers when it comes to interpretation, and this is how I personally perceived Holden Caulfield.

◦Part 1/2 .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。..・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. You sat at your desk chewing the end of your pen as you worked on your homework, your best friend Cove sprawled out on the bed nearby. Of course he wasn't really doing his homework. Cove never was much for school. Instead he talked on about whatever seemed to suit him at the moment. The conversation bounced from one topic to another before he brought up how he got volunteered for the upcoming dance committee by his teacher, despite his protests. You could feel your shoulders drop as you seemed to almost visibly deflate at the subject mater. It didn't take cove long to notice before he sat up, his legs hanging off the edge of your bed watching you carefully for a moment before speaking up. "You okay?" He questioned his voice wavering as he spoke. You weren't sure how to answer him. Would he even understand if you explained it to him? You didn't want him to feel sorry for you either. "I'm fine." You lied not even having to look at him to know he wasn't buying it. "Come on Y/N... I think I know you well enough by now to know when somethings bugging you." He pointed reaching over to pull your chair so you could face him. "Seriously Cove I'm fine. It's no big deal." You attempted to convince him only gaining a unconvinced stare from your green haired companion. You groaned slouching in your chair running a hand over your face. "Fine. Maybe I'm a little upset about the dance." You admitted stressing the 'little' part of the statement. His expression shifted from one of determination to one of understanding. "Do...do you wanna talk about it?" He offered his eyes having not left you since the sudden shift in tone. You stayed quiet mulling over the thought before sighing. "I just...I don't know I guess I feel left out...like I'm missing out on the dance because I don't have a Dad.." You shrugged staring down at your hands. "Not that I wish I had a Mom and Dad instead of two Moms. I wouldn't trade them for the world.." You felt bat that you even felt that way. You wondered what your Parents would think if they'd heard you. Cove sat there quietly as you spoke waiting patiently for you to finish. "No I understand." He assured leaning forward propping his arms on his knees as her thought. "Do you Want to take my Dad?" He finally asked looking up from his spot on the bed. "I'm sorry what??" You Blinked, having not expected the suggestion in the slightest. It took a few seconds to register the offer before you shook your head. "What? Cove no I couldn't. What about you? Besides Would he even want to go with me?" Cove shrugged in response. "Well I mean...I'm not really into this kinda thing and you are. And I'm sure he'd want to you're basically family anyway."

"You're sure about that?" You spoke softly as cove stood. "Yeah of course I am, i wouldn't offer if I wasn't okay." He flashed you a friendly smile as you stood up from your chair. "Anyway lets go ask him, better now than never." He stated heading for your door, you following closely behind him as he lead you down the stair, and out your front door.

You felt a wave of nervousness wash over you the closer you got to the Holden house, part of you wondering if you should just turn around. By the time the thought crossed your mind Cove had already swung the front door open holding it so you could enter first.

The house smelled of cooking food. You weren't sure what was being made but whatever it was smelled delicious.

Cove's Dad had glanced over hearing the front door, assuming his son had returned back from your study date but being pleasantly surprised but also not at all surprised by the familiar face that had followed his son home.

He flashed the two of you a bright smile as he wiped his hands on his baby blue 'Kiss The Cook' apron. "Hey kiddos, done with studying already?" He inquired. "Uh... not entirely no." Cove shook his head. "We wanted to ask you something.." He admitted as Cliff quirked a brow at his son.

"If this is about a sleep over you know we agreed not on a School night." He warned knowingly. You and Cove tended to be attached at the hip after all.

"What? No Dad we know, It's not that." Cove dismissed the thought looking over to you as if willing you to just ask. You swallowed thickly the nerves of asking him such a simple question giving you cotton mouth. Cliff seemed to catch on some what shifting his full attention to you as you psyched yourself up. He wore a kind smile not rushing you in the slightest while simultaneously hanging off whatever you might say.

You took a Breath looking up at the blonde finally willing yourself to speak. "Would you.. Will you go with me to the Fathers day dance?" Your tone was quieter than usual as you waited for his response. He seemed frozen for a moment a shocked expression on his features as he processed the request. You waited for what seemed like forever but in reality was only a few seconds. You looked up as a loud sniff brought you out of your thoughts seeing the man in front of you desperately trying to keep himself from tearing up then and there. He must have assumed this was Cove's suggestion seeing as how he was the one to start the conversation. Especially since his reply was almost immediate after that. "Of course I will. I'd be honored to."

You felt a wave of relief wash over you at his answer the choked feeling in your throat vanishing as you rushed forward pulling cliff into a hug, hearing a quiet "Oof" as you made contact with him.

"Easy there, you're gonna take us both down." Cliff joked lightheartedly as he placed a hand on your back giving you a gentle squeeze before you could pull away.

"Thank you. You have know idea how much this means.." You thanked him sniffling as the nerves died down leaving you just a bit emotional. He gave you a kind look ruffling your hair gently in a fatherly fashion. "Of course, I wouldn't dare to miss it." He assured letting you pull back fully as you reached up to fix your hair.

You glanced over to cove who was standing by watching the display receiving a thumbs up as he noticed you look over at him. You smiled at him sweetly before looking back to cliff. "Well now that that's sorted...I guess we should get back to studying..." You explained not sure how to gracefully leave the situation.

Cliff laughed but nodded nonetheless. "Sure kid, don't let me stop you." You gave him s final smile and another quiet thanks before leading cove out and back across the street. You were actually excited for this event now.

Starkid has had a lot of different cast members in their shows through the years and I started wondering who has been in the most shows and how many shows someone would have to be in for them to feel like a "proper" Starkid. I could have looked up to see if anyone has compiled this information but instead I decided to do it myself!

I went through the cast lists of all fourteen live stage shows they have uploaded to their channel (so including VHS Christmas Carol but not Nightmare Time or any other digital series) and here's what I found:

Then there are a handful of people who have only appeared in one or two shows, most notably Bonnie Gruesen, who played Hermione in the first two Potter musicals, Will Brenner, who debuted in Nerdy Prudes Must Die, and Mariah Rose Faith, Angela Giarratana, Curt Mega, Kim Whalen, Kendall Nicole Yakshe and Bryce Charles, who have all appeared in two or more Hatchetfield projects.

A couple of observations:

Some of the actors listed have also been involved behind the scenes, with Nick Lang writing almost every show with his brother Matt Lang, and Jeff Blim and Clark Baxtresser writing the music for several shows.

I was shocked that Rachael Soglin has only been in three Starkid shows but I guess it goes to show that the size of the role also plays a part in how much of a "Starkid" every actor feels.

Hello love, thank you so much for sending this!!

First up is a story I wrote not too long ago "Mercy Mercy Please (The Monster in Me)" which is a Theo x Liam Teen Wolf fic that is an enemies to hate fuckers to lovers story with 20k words of dirty, nasty, kinky dub-con hate fucking lol I love this one so much because I haven't written this dynamic before and these two are just PERFECT for it.

Next up is "Prussian Blue" which is a Clark x Bruce superbat story in which Bruce gets irradiated to lethal levels and Clark frantically tries to find a way to stop him from dying, while also being forced to confront the depths of his feelings for Bruce. I love this one because it's angsty (big surprise LOL), but also because of the relationships I built between Clark and Alfred, and Clark and Bruce--I think they're well characterized and engaging. Plus I did a SHIT TON of research into the acute effects of radiation sickness and the treatments for it, which is where the title comes from--Prussian Blue is a pretty standard treatment for radiation poisoning!

My next one I'll talk about is hands down my favorite thing I've written in the last few years because it's so unbearably tender. "Ribs Cracked Open, A Home Made Within" is a Geralt x Jaskier story that came about because I had this idea that with his extra mutagens, Geralt would probably be hypersensitive to the point of pain, and wondered what that would look like within canon. I also really wanted Geralt to be handled with care and affection and tenderness because we never really see that in canon, and when someone is so hurt by the world and so self loathing, I desperately crave stories where they get to be treated tenderly.

Next is "Handful of Aces, Pocketful of Nines" which is a Holden x Bill Mindhunter story that came about after a rewatch while I was high and had my brain go galaxy mode and see them as a ship 😂This story follows canon and is filled to the brim with yearning, internalized homophobia, and so much angst it'll break your heart! I love this one because it's got so many tropes that I adore, and I think is a very compelling story of two people who don't know how to love each other, but also don't know how not to love each other.

Finally, is "Unbroken" which I consider to be my Steve x Tony magnum opus lol This story is my baby--I spent two years writing it, during which time I was in grad school, working full time, doing an internship and trying to get homework done. It's angsty and full of pining, hurt/comfort, whump, and all the other tasty tropes that I adore. It's a complicated story about a complicated relationship--Steve is found in the ice during Tony's childhood and comes to live with the Starks where he serves as a friend and protector for Tony. Tony loves him, and when life intervenes, they're married to protect Tony from being given to Obie--but that doesn't mean things get any easier. I do honestly think that this is the best thing for stony that I ever have and ever will write, and I hope more folks give it a shot despite that underage tag lol

When you start showing symptoms of depression, Cove is concerned to say the absolute least. He’s worried beyond belief, and he wants to do everything in his power to help.

Whenever you’re upset, Cove just wants to shield you away, holding you until it’s passed but he knows he cannot do that forever

He tries his best to bring you out of the house, to go surfing or sit on the beach, or even just get a bite to eat. But if you really don’t want to go out, he’ll sit in your room with you, comforting you when you need it. 

If you get angry at him, he doesn’t take it personally, knowing it’s a facet of your depression. But it doesn’t hurt him any less to see the flames of agitation burn in your eyes as you look at him. If he caused it, he will always apologize and give you time to yourself if you prefer. 

If you lose interest in your hobbies, he’ll push you to do what you love just a little. If you like to write, he’ll encourage you to go onto your laptop or grab the pen and just write whatever is in your mind, no matter how messy the thoughts. If you like to paint, he’ll encourage you to just put paint onto the canvas, no matter how nonsensical the brushstrokes. 

If you’re having trouble sleeping, he’ll stay up with you some nights just to talk and distract you from the weight on your chest. Or if you’d prefer, he’ll hold you as he sleeps peacefully beside you as he hopes his heartbeat will lull you to sleep.

When you’re upset and crying and wanting to scream at the world, he’ll hold you as long as you’ll let him. If you want to talk out what you’re feeling, he’ll be a nonjudgmental ear to listen, and if requested, he will help you think it through. For example, if you feel you are worthless, he’ll point out the ways in which you are full of worth and encourage you to point out things about yourself that are not worthless. 

Despite your depression, Cove will not love you any less. He will be there to help as much as you’d like and will stand by your side no matter what happens.

Summery: you've known the Weasley twins since first year and since then, you've never left eachothers sides. Everyone knew you had feelings for the more flirtatious twin, except him, so when you find out that he's asked out Angelina to the yule ball, you had to find a way to bury your feelings before you let it slip.

a/n: I tried to make this as inclusive as possible, although I will say in this story she has hair past her shoulders but that's pretty much it. Also I wrote this about the song <Enchanted> by Taylor swift, so I recommend you listen to that while listening. Btw this is SUPER LOOSELY based on a fic I read but I can't find the original, so if it seems familiar feel free to tag them!

This is part ⅓, and I havent exactly figured out the plan for the next few chapters, BUT I can tell you, the dance is not in this chapter, it's in the next because I got distracted and wrote a little too much for this chapter

It was breakfast when he first mentioned it. He didn't even tell us properly, he just let it slip without noticing.

"Hey so I was thinking maybe we could do group photos before we head to the ball, y'know everyone with their dates. I ready asked Angelina if she was up for it, she said it was a great idea."

I don't think he even noticed what he had said, he just kept his head down looking at his food. George gave he a knowing look, and my throat went dry. He had know about my feelings for Fred since third year, when he practically got on his knees, begging, to see why I was always so flustered around Fred. I didn't bother looking into George's eyes, because I knew if I did, there was a high chance that I would be able to keep my composure. Fred spoke again before we got the chance to say anything.

"By the way y/n, Angelina was wondering of you wanted to go dress shopping with her."

For the first time this morning fred looked up from his plate, directing his gaze to me. My heart stopped for a second when our eyes met. It wasn't anything new but this time felt...different. I hadn't even realized I was staring till George cleared his throat. I flicker my eyes for a split second to meet with George's eyes, only to switch my focus back to Fred. I cleared my throat before answering.

"That sounds great but, I already said I'd go with ginny."

I gave him my best fake smile. I hadn't told him the whole truth but it wasn't a complete lie. I had asked ginny to go with me, but she said she had already gotten a dress.

"Oh that's a shame."

He directed his attention back to his plate. Throughout the rest of the day, you tried to avoid him and Angelina. It's not like you hated her, it was just hard to be around the girl who managed to get Fred's attention, without feeling a pang of jealousy throughout your body. In potions you took the spot by George insted of your usual seat by Fred. George had obviously known why, but that didn't stop him from asking.

"How are you holden' up?"

George slightly nudged your side.

"Not well, actually."

I turned to him, giving him a bit of a sarcastic smile.

"Well have you alleast thought about who your gonna take to the ball?"

I had actually. Not my first choice, but a shy hufflpuff boy that id know to fancy me first came to mind. It might be a little mean going with him only as a last resort, but what else was I supposed to do? Go alone? Yea, no way.

"Yea a little but I'm not to sure yet. What about you?"

George hadn't been the type to go out with alot of girls. He'd rather spend his time making jokes or thinking about what prank he was gonna do next. That's why it shocked me a little to find out he was going with a ravenclaw girl from his herbology class. Even if it was just as friends, I was happy for him.

The rest of the day seemed to fly by and next thing I knew, I was dragging myself to the great hall for dinner. When I walked through the door, I took a quick glance around the gryffindor table, not expecting anything out of the ordinary, when I see Angelina, Fred's arm draped over her shoulder, in my seat. I wanted to go over there and just let all my feelings spill from my mouth, but before I could go near the table, my feet were taking me away from the great hall and towards the common rooms.

By the time I reached the common rooms, my appetite was long gone and the water works had been flowing nonstop. Luckily everyone was either eating, or out, seeing as it was Friday and the ball was about a week away. I didn't even bother going up to the dormitory, I just took a spot on the floor infront of the couch and the empty fireplace. I wrapped my arms around myself. Since it was mid to late December, the cold was almost un-bearable and the fact that the fireplace hadn't been lit yet, wasnt helping. The common room was practicality a walk in freezer, and the only thing I had on was my robes.

When I awoke the next morning, I was grateful that it was the weekend. When I had originally woke up the night before, I was still on the ground but my back was aching and my neck was sore from the position I was in. I managed to stumble up to the dormitory after everyone else had gone to bed, not bothering to change out of my robes.

I made my way out of bed sluggishly, heading to the lavatory to wash myself off from the night prior.

I had decided to stop by hogsmade to visit a little boutique to see if they had any accessories that could go with my dress for the yule ball. I hadn't given the ball much thought other than dates, so I was rather excited to see what I could find. I had gotten my dress only a few days prior to the conversation I had at breakfast with Fred and George, and yet i hadn't thought of what I would wear with it. The dress was long and bearly grazed the floor. It had a beige base with dark see through fabric embroidered with gold accents over top. The straps were thin and had long bows covering them. It was a little out of my comfort zone, but that's what made it so special. My shoes were beige with gold vines wrapping themselves around the heel of the shoe. I hadn't decided what I was going to do with my hair, but there was still quite some time till the ball so I didn't have to rush or anything.

I left the boutique with a few simple gold bracelets, and made my way back to the castle to meet up with a few friends for lunch. Walking through the main door, whith my head down caused me to run directly into a broad figure while turning a corner.

"Oh my bad, sorry"

I apologized almost immediately, expecting that to be the end of the interaction, only to stop in my tracks.

"No worries love"

The familiar voice rang through my ears, as i looked up to see the last person I wanted to run into today.

"So... where you headed? Maybe I could join you"

Fred gave me his signature smirk. I wanted to run. Tell him no, that I didn't want to see him. But of course I knew that would ask questions, so I let him follow me. I went to the library in hopes he'd leave so I could sneakout and go with my friends, But, even when we got there he just took a spot directly next to me. I pulled out a book from a nearby shelf that I'd been eyeing out for a while and started reading. Surely he'd leave soon, right? Wrong. He sat there, next to me, for the entire afternoon as I read. Eventually I put the book back, being to distracted to concentrate on the words on the pages.

"Where were you at dinner last night?"

The question had slightly caught you off guard, seeing as he'd been quiet all this time.

"Oh, I just didn't have much of an appetite"

Which wasn't a complete lie.

"Well did you want to walk with me to dinner?"

Dinner. I had completely missed lunch and had spent my afternoon reading I hopes that Fred would leave, but he never did. At this point I would've said no. That I was just gonna skip dinner again. But my stomach was growling, and if I didn't eat soon, I might've just passed out. I had no other choice but to agree.

Dinner had went by smoothly. A lot more smoothly than last night. I found myself laughing like old times, even if Angelina was still sitting in my spot. I just took the empty place by george insted. Eventually the night crept upon me and the energy I once had was long gone at this point. Me and George said our goodnight and headed to the dorms together, as Fred and Angelina were busy talking to their mutual friends.

The walk to the dorms was quiet. But not in an uncomfortable way, in the good way. When we got to the common room, we sat on the couch In sync, and just sat there for a minute in silence. Taking in eachother company. I rested my head on George's shoulder -a habit I picked up early on in our friendship, as we were both touchy people- and he rested his head atop of mine.

"Do you think you're gonna tell him?"

The question wasn't surprising to me seeing as this wasn't the first time he's asked.

"I don't know. He seems pretty happy with Angelina right now, I'd hate to ruin it for him."

You glance up at George, to see him deep in thought. It wasn't an abnormal thing to see George distracted, but this seemed different.

"What's on you mind Georgie?"

I kept my eyes on him when he glanced at me

"Hes going to ask Angelina to be his gifriend after the ball."

My heart broke for a second, before starting to beat rapidly. I'd known he would never go for me, but there was still a piece of me that hoped everyday that maybe just maybe, he would confess his undying love for me. But that was stupid. Now that I knew for sure he wasn't interested, it hurt like hell.

"How do you know?"

I tried to hide the crack in my voice.

"He asked me for advice on how to ask, as if I knew anything about that."

He huffed a small laugh.

I let a few tears slip out, but I refused to break down infront of goerge, even if he had seen me break down before. I rested my head back on his shoulder, and let the hot tears fall. After a while, my breathing slowed and a drifted to sleep.

Nil (Horizon Dawn Zero/Forbidden West) - My current obsession I'm rotating around in my mind. What's not to love he's charming in the sense that his most common AU occupation is "Serial Killer." Will he kill you? Depends! Only if you suck, and he promises to never stab you in the back, he wants to look you in the eye if he tries to kill you. But actually, I find him utterly fascinating and in the context of HZD he's just. so nuanced it destroys me. This man has decades of c-ptsd and asks the question of what happens when someone drenched in violence is suddenly expected to stop fighting- the answer is, it takes a lot! I adore him.

Kassandra (AC:Odyssey) - Look the more I think about Kassandra and like the canon quests in that game the more I'm like. They did you wrong, girl. They did you so dirty. SHE JUST WANTS TO GO HOME. IT TAKES DECADES. HER STORY IS A FUSION OF THE ODYSSEY AND THE ILIAD. YOU CAN APPLY THEMES FROM BOTHA ND IT DRIVES ME INSANE. And. And then they say, all thsi you worked so hard for? Well. We have other things we need from you. I am going to chew through my arm.

Mizu (Blue Eye Samurai) - Look. I could link thousand upon thousands words of meta about Mizu and her/they're relationship to gender and existence as a mixed race individual in isolationist Japan. And it still wouldn't capture it all. And past that it's hot person brutally murdering people in absolutely fantastically animated fight scenes.

Vincent Valentine (Final Fantasy VII) - Look. He's my original blorbo. I saw 10 minutes of screen time of him in Advent Children and have been insane ever since. I bought and played through Dirge of Cerberus for him. Something about him apparently just imprinted on me as a child, I've been a lost cause ever since.

Xaden Riorson (Fourth Wing/Iron Flame) - These books are still relatively new so I'll hold my tongue since a lot of what I am obsessed with re: him is spoilers but oh my god. oh. my. god. buddy.

Axel (Kingdom Hearts) - Also an original blorbo from childhood, imprinted on him like a baby duck. His death in KH2 made me bawl. His entire storyline makes me sob, he's the reason why every single aspect of Roxas' story was a gut punch cause like. The best way to make people care about characters is give them someone who loves them then make it sad.

Charles Milton Porter (Bioshock 2: Minerva's Den) - Look. This dude's DLC made me cry. big cry. I still kinda get choked up when i think about it for a while. it's about the grief.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits - I can't choose a characters from this, so I just advise everyone to play this game. It's so good. You're going to be emotionally devastated. It's also about grief. Every character in this game is so so good and you will feel things.

Joe Miller (The Expanse) - He was not the first but he was my defining love of shitty noir space detectives. I loved him from when he was introduced to when he left the series and my love was rewarded so much. Holden and Amos were the runner up characters for this fandom.

Death (The Book Thief) - I read the book thief for the first time in 7th grade I think? Every day of my life since them on my commute to work or when on break I look at the sky and think about how Death would describe the taste of the colors. This book irrecoverably changed me from the day I read it and firmly cemented this Death as the death i hope is there at the end of everything, i love this version of it so much. This death is like. look. go read the book if you haven't had the opportunity.

Back to School - Cove Holden

just a lil comfort piece about back to school blues, hope you enjoy! this is slightly self indulgent but we don't talk ab that

You were lying on the floor of your room, LEDs set to blue as you played your sad playlist to match your mood of sadness and anxiety due to the impending doom that was the upcoming school year. By upcoming, you meant “in less than 12 hours”. You should really be asleep by now, but you couldn't with anxiety and misery gnawing at your stomach. You glanced at your phone beside you. Picking it up, you decided to call Cove. Bothering him was the last thing you wanted to do, but you couldn’t help it. You wanted to see him, or at least hear his voice. You went into your favorite contacts and hit call on his. Despite the late hour, it only rang once before he picked up.

“Y/N?” His voice came through the phone soft and unsure as you heard some rustling from his end, he was probably in bed. You started to wonder if this was a bad idea.

“Yeah, it’s me.” That was all you could muster in response? You couldn’t even give him the reason that you called? This was definitely a mistake. Sure, Cove was your boyfriend but that didn’t mean he wanted to be bothered by you at ungodly hours of the night. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have called you so late. Goodnight.”

“Are you kidding? I’ve knocked on your window way later than this.” You heard him laugh a little. “You’ve got nothing to be sorry for, really. What’s up?” You smiled softly as he spoke. Cove always had a way of making you feel better, being there for you no matter what. Thanks to his reassurance, you started to feel like calling him wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

“I guess I just… I don’t know… Wanted to hear your voice?” You nervously drew circles in the ground as you spoke.

“Oh, alright. Is everything okay?” He sounded worried, that was the last thing you wanted.

You knew there was no point in lying to him, so you answered honestly. “To be honest? Not really, but-”

Before you could finish your sentence, you were interrupted by rustling on Cove’s end, followed by his voice.

“I could come over, if that’d help?” His voice sounded slightly pleading, like he wanted nothing more than to be with you right now. You smiled a little, sharing the sentiment.

“That would be great, but you don't have to-”

“I'm on my way, okay? I'll see you in a bit.” With that, he hung up and you were left to lie on the floor and wallow some more.

In a few minutes, you heard a knock on your window. You didn't have to check to know who it was, you walked over and there was Cove, perched on a ledge with a slightly worried expression on his face, but he still smiled at you. You opened the window and stood awkwardly as he climbed inside. Once he was settled, he spoke.

“So… what's wrong? Can I help or-”

He was cut off by you practically bum rushing him with a hug. You just felt this aching need to be closer to him, to be in his arms. He let out a little squeak as you squeezed him before relaxing and wrapping his arms around you, resting his head on top of yours.

“Whatever it is, it'll be okay.”

Those simple words made your heart soar, and also made you feel ready to cry. He was just so caring. He didn't even know what was wrong, but he was ready to make it better. He was making it better.

You decided to let it all out. All of your worries and frustrations with the coming school year, your feelings of impending exhaustion, everything. Cove just held you as you vented and cried, rubbing your back soothingly and listening.

When he was sure you were done, he looked into your eyes and tried his best to reassure you.

“I understand that you're worried, and anxious and I wish I could make it better. But just know that no matter what, I'll be there. I'll be with you through everything, okay? Not that you even need me, you've gotten through so much all on your own. You're amazing and I promise you'll figure it out, we'll figure it out.”

You smiled as more tears rolled down your cheeks, Cove kissed them away. After you were done speaking and it was obvious that you were tired, he picked you up and put you in bed, tucking you in and climbing in beside you.

“I love you. Go to sleep now. I'll be here tomorrow, okay?”

Those are the last hushed words you hear before you drift off to sleep, with Cove cuddled into your side. He continues whispering sweet words of encouragement to you, and you think that maybe, just maybe, this school year won't be so bad.

After I had so much fun making a silly little poll on twitter about which SnaccPop Studios character readers would like to see me write in a reader-insert fic, I decided to make a poll for everyone here as well. Since tumblr posts allow for more words and options, I decided to add a little twist to this version of the poll.

Surprise! It's not just SnaccPop bachelors involved this time. Everyone's favorite ocean boy Cove Holden from Our Life Beginnings & Always is also an option, along with Jack's female counterpart, Funshine Jill!

You can also vote whether the writing style will be 1st person (staying in a neutral narrator's head for a reader-insert experience) or 3rd person (getting to see both characters and their thoughts).

I joked that if the twitter poll got at least 1000 votes I would for sure write a story about the winner, knowing that I wouldn't reach that many, but the actual amount wound up being a lot more than I expected. So this time I'm actually committing to the bit.

This poll is going up for an entire week. Not only I write a 1000+ word flashfic about the winner, but if I reach 1000 votes, I'll make two short stories about the winning option instead of just one.

If you're interested in a different sort of story than any of the options presented, feel free to leave a comment. I won't guarantee that I'll feel confident enough to write the suggestions, but I am curious to know what you're interested in seeing me write. Maybe I can have different options if I do a poll like this again.

I also won't guarantee that I'll write a teaser paragraph based off the poll leader for every 100 votes like I did over on twitter. Though you never know. It was fun leaving silly commentary and incentives on the twitter poll as it went along.

If this poll goes well, I might do something like this again in the future. Maybe I'll even feel bold enough to hold a contest of some kind when I hit 1000 followers.

hi I was wondering where you find your fabrics for your cosplays! I especially love all the sheer (?) Ones for your moon phos. Im making a couple moon gem cosplays for my friends and I but I'm not exactly sure where to start on finding the materials haha.

of course!!

my favorites are:

spandex world for spandex, vinyls, and meshes. Whenever I use shiny mystique spandex, its from here (like my phos arms, robin torso, etc). They have an awesome collection of glitter milliskin and mesh on top of their mystique stuff and cool sequin meshes! for plugsuits, if i can I like to get my PVC vinyl from them, but on occasion I will use MJ trends or spandex house (or etsy) instead!

Etsy is another big one, a few shops I use a lot are AlexLAFabrics and Missnancy48 but doing a general search on etsy can be super helpful. They have a lot of awesome, niche glitter tulles and other sparkly fabrics that work well for houseki as well as cool trims and appliques!

Although the honest truth is 90% of the fabrics on Phos were sourced from JoAnns. JoAnns has insane markups and its hard to find anywhere that will be more expensive than them, but they have a few fabrics that I am just absolutely holden to. For phos, I used their iridescent glitter tulle, both their smooth and crinkle iridescent organzas (all of those could easily be sourced off joanns for cheaper btw theyre pretty common fabric types). However the main "I cant seem to find this anywhere else" fabric I got for phos was the top layer of pink iridescent organza with glitter studs. they havent stocked it in awhile unfortunately but I feel like it really made the sleeves look how I wanted (theres also this alternative thats similar). they also have a white sportswear stretch denim that I used for the bodysuit that i really like. (same with a white stretch sateen)

other than houseki costumes, a few online shops I use on the regular are Big Z fabric for anything suede, minky, or fur related (like the sulu plush or Fushi!). FabricWholesaleDirect for general fabric needs (they have great prices so if i can use them, i try to) and Silkbaron for silks!

If there's ever a costume yall want to know fabric sourcing on, just let me know and I would be happy to trace back materials!

SHANG TSUNG'S ISLAND

The island: absolutely breathtaking views. Tropical paradise. Various old structures and architecture of many many various eras and dynasties of China. Sometimes you can feel the island like it's alive....how ominous. Shang tsung says the island is in a realm of its own. A pocket dimension,not quite affected the same way as the realms it connects to. It sorta of is timeless,much like the man who rules it...still wonder what he means by this.

But overall it has lovely shores and beaches. Lavish courtyards and gardens. It has an upper courtyard,and lower. The Lower courtyard is mostly for guests,kombatants when there is a tournament,servents and guards. The upper courtyard is for me and shang tsung. He doesn't let anyone wander around in it unless he invites you. Which he does rarely.

The interior: the interior is traditional but has modern facilities. (Look shang is old but come on man!)

Tho he does have a traditional kitchen and a modern. But the modern one is his personal one near his living quarters. The rest of the inner palace is still got an old school vibe.

The inner palace/private living quarters:The bed chambers is lavish. Large. Silks,velvets,gold,red. *sigh* . Beautiful.

Shang's private kitchen,bathroom,hot spring,etc is all connected.

Armor/clothing:has beautiful armor and a ceremonial sword in his bed chambers too.

Some armor is for kombat. Some is ceremonial. Either way it's always beautiful to look at.

I too have lovely outfits. Aren't they great?

My magic apprentice outfit. Sorceress in training if you will. (Not exactly how i had it,but it was closest to i could find)

Also our accessories too

Shang and i (lady tsung) have snake rings. A pendent that helps my magic training. Master tsung has a snake flask(with what alcohol or its contents, i dare not ask him) and a dragon pipe for Tobacco(or other substances im sure).

Throne room:Shang tsung's throne room is also breathtaking. A Large room,holden dragons,the tournament master private dining room, a small courtyard next to it. Isn't it lovely?

His chair and also the outside gates to the inner palace.

Well that's all i have to show you for now! I hope you enjoy your stay. You probably should get going before he gets back. Shang tsung,my beloved tends to get a bit peeved when i have guests up here.

my year of rest and relaxation review

this review does contain spoilers. this book is also undoubtedly 18+ and no minors should be partaking in it.

i want to begin this review by talking directly to those who dislike it. there were many mixed reviews from what i saw about this book before purchasing it, and most just cited the fact that the main character is awful as a person and horribly depressing. well, that is true. she is definitely that. but a bad main character doesn’t make a bad book. she’s still very well-written and captivating as a narrator, even if unreliable. if you prefer books where the main character is a good-hearted heroine, i promise there is a whole world out there for you. but if you are still willing to read, i would absolutely 100% recommend this book to you. holden caufield in “the catcher in the rye” is just as miserable, but apparently that book is a classic, i guess (i really had no pleasure in dragging through that one in high school.)

the premise of the book is super simple; she pretty much just wants to sleep the whole year, following feeling unfulfilled in life, and wanting some sort of rebirth. this summary makes it sound incredibly boring, but there is never a dull moment in the story. nothing my eyes wanted to skip over. i was hooked on every word and paragraph. Moshfegh writes in such a beautiful way that was simple (and a good break after reading sense and sensibility) but powerful, as if the main character herself was furiously scribbling into a notebook every time she came back to consciousness.

you never truly feel sorry for the character. she is a total asshole. a complete entitled, self-centered, rich asshole. but her thoughts are still expressed in a way that can be relatable. i think that’s what makes it so captivating. even though she exhibits extreme behavior, it is still relatable on a base level. being unsatisfied with the career you’ve chosen. the death of family to suicide, to cancer. a love-hate relationship between long time friends. wanting a fresh start.

i do also think Moshfegh picked the perfect time period to place this book in. 2000-2001 are very simplistic but complicated years. the emergence of new technology yet still just primitive enough. the joy of the VHS player where she watches movies on repeat makes it so thought dialogue is better concise, but she is also not scrolling for hours upon hours on social media distracting herself and putting herself to sleep that way.

the lingering theme on 9/11 is also pretty haunting. you can see from my updates that it was constantly on my mind, but the book truly has no reason for me to think that way. Moshfegh simply slips in unnerving details about its potential future presence, like Reva being moved into the twin towers for work, or how each date after she wakes up during her hibernation is explicitly listed. i thought for a second it would just cut off before 9/11. but the final one-page chapter is as well placed as i hoped it would be.

read this book, but don’t find yourself relating too much with it. don’t allow yourself to wish for similar events. i guess that is the problem many people have with it. but it is possible to read a book at base level and just appreciate the story. you don’t have to absorb it into your very soul. it’s fiction, after all. it’s not meant to be taken 100% seriously. enjoy yourself.

this did conclude my reading challenge for the year as well. i had set it very low at the beginning of the year because truly i didn’t expect to read at all! and then suddenly i’ve finished 3 books in the span of about a month, which is so wonderful. if you’re interested in being friends on goodreads (i have none 🥲 say yes pls) it’s linked in the pinned post on my profile.

in the seventh chapter, she mentions that she read “war and peace”, and i’m taking it as a solidifying sign, as that will be my next venture for what will probably be the rest of the year. now that will be a long, intense review. and i’ll see you at the end of the year for that. <3
