The Call - Reader X Yamada Hizashi (Present Mic)

This is the first time I’ve ever written angst and it’s for the Don’t Go Breaking My Heart Collab! (Congrats on 1k Bee!!) I hope I’ve done alright?? It’s a new genre for me ngl - Hopefully it’s knife twisty enough to satisfy uwu

Not beta’d.

No gendered language is used (I think)

Wordcount: 2,164

Contains: Second Person (Third? It’s Hizashi’s POV but reader is always referred to in 2nd) SFT, heavy angst, reader death, descriptions of blood and injuries, fridge-ing trope, I think that’s it??

Summary/Excerpt: “Do you want to see them again?” The caller’s voice has returned to how it was before, quiet and reserved.

Hizashi has to swallow to stop himself from throwing up. His eyes flick to where the phone lines are going crazy.

“Yes.”

A glance to the clock on the wall and a deep breath.

“4:30 in the morning Listeners, you know what that means! After this next song is over it’s time to hear from some of you lovely callers! You can call or text the number on my website, PYHUR.co.jp for the uninitiated few, and I’ll do my very best to get to you!” He presses a button and the next song starts.

Then he pulls his headphones off with a groan.

Hizashi is exhausted. His own voice grating on his ears in this mostly soundproofed broadcasting booth as he sips cheap coffee that’s long since gone cold. Don’t get him wrong, he loves his job, wouldn’t still be doing it if he didn’t but ever since you’d moved in, hell, ever since he started dating you it’s been itching at him a little more. There’s this whiny voice in the back of his head telling him that he’s wasting precious time here when he could just be with you.

Three full time jobs take a lot out of a man but you never mind.

A smile stretches across his face as he kicks back in his seat, muscle memory dropping his feet onto the one spot on the table where he won’t hit any buttons.

He knows when he gets home you’ll be in his bed, in his shirt. You’ll wake up when he unlocks the front door, light sleeper that you are, and be sitting up and waiting for him by the time he’s made it to the room.

And you’ll be so damn cute blinking at him with sleepy but warm eyes and reaching for him with grabby hands. His side of the bed will be warm, cause you always sleep there ‘til he gets home. You’ll hold his hands in your perfect ones, smaller than his, and kiss each and every one of his fingers. You’ll tell him welcome home and goodnight and snuggle up to his chest and be asleep before he can say it back.

You’ve been doing the same thing every night for a whole year now, and every night he still feels as happy as the first.

One time you told him you worried that he might just be in the honeymoon phase. That there might come a day when you pull him into your arms at night and he loves you less for it.

Hizashi burst out laughing in your face.

Then spent ten minutes apologizing and frantically doing a hearing check while you smooshed his cheeks between those hands he can’t stop thinking about and insisted you were fine.

Fuck, he loves you so much.

He’s tempted to text you but resists, though his thumb hovers over your name in his phone where it sits at the top of his favorites. At least one of you should be getting some sleep from time to time.

He’s so tired he almost doesn’t notice the song ending. Jumps a bit when the switchboard lights up and the phones start ringing.

If you didn’t make him so damn happy he’d say you throw him off his game, but you do so he won’t. Though now he has to pick from the lines that are lighting up at random, having lost the privilege of screening them first.

It’s only thanks to over a decade of practice that he so easily snaps back into his DJ persona and he calls out, “Yo, yo, yo Listener! You’re on Put Your Hands Up Radio! Care to make some noise?!”

“Present Mic.” A girls voice, quiet and reserved. He always thinks it’s sweet when he gets fans like that. It reminds him how universal music can be, connecting us all together.

“The one and only, Listener! So, first request of the night-”

“You ruined my life.”

“…Uh- I don’t think I’m following-”

“He’s gone because of you. You and the rest of those worthless caped fucks that strut around thinking they have the right-” Her voice is going up steadily, until she’s practically shrieking down the receiver, “All he did was steal a motorcycle and you chased him into goddamn traffic-”

His heart drops into his stomach. He remembers who she’s talking about. A wannabe villain who was trying to prove a point picking fights with heroes. The report said he was 20. Just a kid. “I’m sorry.” And he is, “Listener, I’m going to have to take you off air. There are counseling services-”

“So I’m going to ruin your life too.”

The phonelines are flashing as more calls pour in and he’s getting a bad feeling about where this is going. Knows he needs to end this now. But then another voice comes over the line. Strained and scared and-

“Hizashi.”

No.

“Found your favorite Little Listener outside the broadcasting station. I was coming to get you but this works out even better for me. Now you get to live with the consequences.”

He can barely understand what she’s saying. Her voice like static and his mind a scratched record as he thinks on repeat, You should be in bed. You should be at home. You-

His chair clatters to the floor with a bang as he steps out of it, palm hitting the wall as he nearly falls over, his legs fighting to take his weight, “Whatever you want-”

“I want you to feel what I felt-”

“So talk to me! Don’t- Don’t hurt them, just-” Years of training to deescalate, to handle hostage situations with ease, all go out the window when he hears you scream.

“Stop interrupting me, Voice Hero! And you, pipe down. This isn’t about you noisy brat.”

His nails dig into his palm as he makes a fist, shaking with rage and fear, “If you so much as look at them wrong I’ll-”

“You’ll what?”

For a moment, radio silence. Then-

“...Tch.�� There’s a choking sound. A shriek. A thud.

He can hear a whimper that he knows is yours and he punches the glass of the booth so hard his knuckles split.

“Do you want to see them again?” The caller’s voice has returned to how it was before, quiet and reserved.

Hizashi has to swallow to stop himself from throwing up. His eyes flick to where the phone lines are going crazy.

“Yes.”

“Go down the Yokosuka Line for Tokyo at Shimbashi Station. You have ten minutes.”

“Hiz-”

The line goes dead.

He doesn’t even turn off the broadcast before he starts to run.

Every Friday he comes in for work from that station. It’s about a 14 minute walk from there to the studio.

It takes him six minutes.

There’s police cars with sirens on when he gets there and a cop starts to approach him, calling out his hero name, but he ignores him. Ignores everything but the sign postings directing him down, down the stairs and underground to the tunnel.

When somebody grabs his arm, another cop, he yells, “Get off of me!” and people go flying.

Nobody tries it again.

At least he thinks they don’t.

It’s too bright down here. It’s too sterile. Fluorescents illuminating the space with an eerie hospital like quality as he flies past onlookers, cuts a right onto the tracks and heads down the second tunnel.

They’ve probably delayed the trains, what with the broadcasted possibility of somebody being on the tracks.

He doesn’t actually care though.

He just has to get to you.

The tunnel curves ahead.

He rounds the corner.

He sees you.

He stops breathing.

You’re hanging from the ceiling, just far enough around the corner that the only reason he didn’t slam into you carried by the momentum of his sprint was pure luck. One of your wrists is tangled up and pinned in the barbed wire that’s wrapped around your throat. The palm of your hand looks mangled. Those perfect hands this fit the space in his like a puzzle piece resembling raw meat more than human skin.

There’s blood all over your throat and the front of your shirt- No. His shirt. It’s dark and thick and it’s completely saturated to your waist, but not spreading any farther. The bleeding has stopped.

He can tell you’d tried to keep the wire from digging in with your hands but nobody can hang their own weight off of barbed wire for long. Especially not a civilian.

The closest thing you had to training was helping him with warm up stretches and the occasional tickle fight.

Based on the gouges in your fingers and neck it got slippery at some point.

And you’d been crying. There’s tear tracks staining your cheeks. Blood too.

He thinks of all the times he’s seen you cry. All the times he’s kissed tears from the corners of your eyes and your cheeks and your jaw. Happy tears, usually. He’d go out of his way to make you laugh to the point of tears just so he could kiss them away. You always said it was romantic.

Your eyes are still open.

They don’t look sleepy or warm.

Or scared.

They don’t look like much of anything.

He reaches out to press his fingers between yours. To hold your hands.

Even the blood is cold.

You’d probably been dead since moment the caller hung up.

Hizashi takes in a breath.

And he screams.

He screams and screams and screams until he can feel his quirk kick off. The difference in sound jarring and wrong as he hears his own voice get quieter and the echoes in the tunnels trail off.

“Hizashi.” A strong scarred hand wraps around his shoulder to pull him away but he shrugs it off violently. His fingers dig in tighter between yours as full body sobs tear through him. “Hizashi you need to let go. Forensics will want to take them down. They need to look for physical evidence-”

And he doesn’t know why he does it, but something about the monotone of his oldest friends voice, the professionalism he’s managed to maintain snaps something in him, and he turns around and swings, fist aimed directly for his best friends nose.

But Shouta just catches his hand and pulls him further away from you by the arm.

“No! Let me go- I’m not leaving, let go!”

He doesn’t know if he’s coherent through the tears and the rage and the overwhelming waves of stark agony that he’s absolutely drowning in but Eraserhead ignores him. Just focuses unblinkingly on him as he wrestles him away from your- From you.

It ends up taking three cops and Aizawa together to hold him against the wall of the tunnel long enough to remove your- to remove you from the crime scene. To set you on a gurney and pull a cloth over your face.

“I’ll kill her-” He feels like he’s choking. Every so often Shouta’s quirk lets up and Hizashi yells just to feel something. Doesn’t give a shit who’s ears bleed for it.

It hurts. He tastes blood. He smells it too. Sees it. It coats his hands and the floor and you-

“No you won’t.” It’s that monotone again, so at odds with the look of pain twisted across his oldest friends face. Like he’s the one who’s world just ended, hanging lifelessly from unforgiving wire.

His hands feel numb where they touched yours.

It must’ve hurt, he thinks. Dying like that.

You’re pulled further away from him. Wheeled out of sight around the bend of the tunnel.

Hizashi goes slack against the hold on him and Shouta’s grip slowly transitions into a crushing hug as he tries to ground his friend, shaking from the rage and pain and cold.

Your hands were so cold.

He always knew this was a possibility. Jokingly warned you that it could happen. At least he told you it was a joke as he voiced the loudest of all his fears one night, fingers twined with yours. But you told him he was worth it. Called him your hero.

You said you knew he would always save you.

Blood stained fingers twist into the back of Shouta’s hero costume as he goes quiet. There was no point yelling. It wouldn’t change anything. And his throat hurts. Hurts like it’s been wrapped in barbed wire. Hurts like he screamed until the taste of his own blood overpowered the smell of yours.

He knows the protocol. He thinks about the statement he’s going to have to give. The paperwork he’s going to have to fill out. The bed he’s going to fall into when he gets home, hours later than he’d planned.

He thinks about how his spot is going to be cold.

Hizashi takes a moment to catch his breath.

Then he thinks about exactly how he’s going to kill the caller when he finds her.

Because he is going to find her.

And she is going to die.

Slowly.

he actually doesn’t mind that they don’t like to talk with others and stuff. he will earn their trust, and then they can be his. he wouldn’t have to worry about others trying to steal them, especially if they don’t want to talk to others

all in all, he’s a bit pushy in trying to kind of.. make them ‘perfect’ in his standards (which isn’t possible, and he knows this, but he likes to make the people in his life a bit better, if it’s possible)

this would probably include him criticizing some of their reading choices, their sleep schedule, (however i feel like definitely understands being a night-owl)

well.. at first he’s a bit bored with them, but it’s tempting for him to like.. break them and open them up, if you understand. he’s determined to have them come out of their shell one way or another

and honestly that’s pretty much it? they probably wont really catch his eye, or anything, after all, it is ayato, and he can only notice someone as great as him (cough cough)

that being said, they probably always look like they don’t want to be bothered, which could drive him into wanting to interact with them. he likes to push buttons, and he’d have some fun bugging them lol

if, however, they don’t end up giving him any sort of reaction, kind of just ignoring him all the time, he might just like.. either continue even more,, maybe encouraging a reaction with a nice, vampy suck skdjfhksdfh

well. . he's pretty judgmental. he might like straight up say he doesn't like their face, *if* they somehow ever start talking

i can't really picture him wanting to interact with them, he really doesn't care about others and they don't stand out, which is kind of a positive thing in kanato's eyes

all in all, it could work, his favorite thing about them would probably be their quietness and introverted self.

otherwise, it’s unlikely. however!! if the relationship starts to bud, it’ll be super compatible. they can just be quiet, and so can he. that is, if he even wants them around.

even as a friend he’s not fond of having people around, he doesn’t want to do anything that he doesn’t want to, and the best way to prevent that is by not being around at all

so, really it’ll take a lot of effort from them, as subaru will just mind his own business, but it can definitely work out, as they sound pretty chill to subaru, anyways

honestly, he’s not impressed or anything ? they don’t stand out to him, and he’ll continue with his business as usual.

kinda like laito, it depends on how they meet each other. if it has something to do with like.. a bride or something, then he’d like them a bit more, but if it involves meeting like.. in a random public place he’s likely to not care, if you know what I mean ?

anyways, it actually sounds perfect for him, in his eyes. the only thing he might prefer is to have them out of their room a little more often, and he’d encourage them to do so

another one who really wont notice them at first. they’re boring, but like ayato it might be fun to try and open them up and get them out of their shell .

[01x05 Wandavision spoilers]

I need to rant, none of my friends have watched it. Omfg what?

I find it really weird that the video of Wanda stealing Vision's body just came up? It was nine days ago and no one did anything about it? It wasn't like Wanda was subtle about it either. So, I agree with people saying that S.W.O.R.D. was weaponizing Vision's tech and now they are trying to cover it up.

So, Wanda probably found out about it and well, stormed in to rescue Vision's body. Wanda said she wasn't in full control and "she doesn't know how any of this started in the first place". I picture she was alone with the remains of her dead lover and someone took advantage, showed her the kind of life she wanted and Wanda was pulled into this pocket universe.

Don't get me wrong, I think she has a lot of control over how things run in there and I actually think she powers the place. When she re-entered Westview it seemed like the wall was absorbing her energy??? And idk if she just undid the spell on the soldier but it seemed like the moment she left her powers stopped working on the outside???

So, whoever helped Wanda create this universe probably taught her how to manipulate it since that wasn't an ability she mastered before.

If S.W.O.R.D. did try to weaponize the tech, that would also explain the hostility Wanda showed towards them, and specifically towards Director Hayward. (I know it was also about the missile but it just seemed like that was something else there. Like she knew something more, you know? She even turned to him...)

The twins seem to be very aware of what is going on.... I don't know what to make of that. Maybe because they are kinda an extension of Wanda??? Idk im just confused

Now Agnes... she's really sus ngl. She never found it strange when Wanda used her powers but was really surprised in that scene the twins were asking Wanda to bring the dog back.... It seemed like she was almost tempting Wanda to test it out too.

I remember one trailer where Agnes asks Vision if she's dead because he is. She supposedly does this because Vision "wakes her up" but.... she never needed waking up! When Vision "wakes" Norm, he was aware for a second and then went back into his role.

But Agnes is already aware of what is going on. She has a really active role in the show, always brings exactly what they need, she knows they are in a sitcom ("should I take it from the top"), etc... She just overall has a different connection with Wanda compared with the other residents.

Agnes also seemed to be eager to kick out Monica even before Wanda thought about it. She started the gosip… why would she do that? If she wanted them to get rescued why would she frame Monica of not belonging there?

Last thing, Pietro Maximoff. Dude, I'm bummed it wasn't Aaron but well.... I think it's kinda interesting how he showed up exactly when Vision was talking to Wanda and convincing her that what she's doing is wrong. As if someone doesn't want her to leave so they had to put a pawn there to keep Wanda entertained... 👀

Wanda would never ‘recast’ Pietro... This pocket universe, or whoever is behind it all, either created a brand new one or he’s just someone random in that neighborhood to keep Wanda in the fantasy.

I also have this tiny feeling Disney wanted to flex on buying Fox, so... yeah, there’s that....

I feel like (by the trailers), at some point Vision will try to leave and it won't go well (bc of obvious reasons). So, Wanda will probably be alone for a period of time??? I guess? Idk

I believe Wanda and I still think that she isn't in total control of reality. But even if she loses it and becomes an actual villain, I will support her. love my girl, bye

BnHA Chapter 264: You Either Die a Hero...

Previously on BnHA: The kids of 1-A sat around waiting for something exciting to happen, and then it did happen, and they were all “!!” Over on the front lines, the heroes charged the Ol’ Villain Hotel with poor Kaminari crying the entire time, but we’ll excuse him since he is only in the second grade. Tokoyami gave him some gentle encouragement by reminding him of how hard he can slappa da bass, while Midnight told him to think of his one true love in order to find his inner courage, so he immediately thought of Jirou and everyone was like WHOA DID THEY REALLY JUST, and yeah, they kind of did? Anyway so Cementoss ripped the building open and Kaminari got all Thor on us and started battling this other electric guy, and then we cut to Hawks and Twice, who were having a friendly conversation similar to the friendly conversation Hawks had with Best Jeanist on the very same day that Jeanist abruptly went missing and was never heard from again! Hey, wait a second. You guys don’t suppose...??

Today on BnHA: Re-Destro gathers in the basement with all his followers and they’re all like “Re-Destro!!” and he’s all “what??” and they’re all “the heroes are attacking!!” and he’s all “:) :) :) the fuck??!” Outside, the heroes continue to wreak havoc, and between Edgeshot, Midnight, Honenuki and Toadette, I’m pretty sure they have actually killed some of these guys. But that’s silly though because heroes would never actually kill someone. Speaking of heroes not killing someone, back in the hotel, Hawks is all “(Ò‸Ó)” and Twice is all “(இ‸இ)” and then Hawks is all “I’m gonna arrest you but I’ll help you get through this and get back on your feet again afterwards because you’re a good person” and Twice is all “WHAT THE FUCK NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN” and does the whole Sad Man Parade thing. And Hawks is all “I don’t want to fight you!” and Twice is all “TOO BAD” and meanwhile Dabi is running up the stairs all “time to start some shit” and then the chapter ends. So while I’m relieved on behalf of Hawks’s soul, I can’t help but be a little concerned on behalf of his, uh, life. Shit.

okay, so! I finally have time to read this damn thing. but before I start, a couple of holdover thoughts from the prior chapter!

firstly, I want to go on the record now and say that I’ve decided once again that Hawks, in spite of all appearances, is not a murderer. you hear that Hawks. I’m putting my neck on the line for you. gonna look like a real stooge if you go and murder Twice before going on to fight Dabi to the death while we cut to Noumu!Jeanist taunting Bakugou

but in all seriousness, I just can’t reconcile it with what we know of Hawks’s character. his behavior during the fight against Hood almost got him exposed because he couldn’t bear to let anyone get hurt or to let Endeavor get killed. I know the HPSC got their claws in him at a young age, but in spite of that I don’t think he’s harboring a dark side. to me he always just comes off as tired and struggling to do the right thing even though he never asked to be put into this kind of position. he’s smart enough to understand the whole “needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” thing, but he’s also young enough to still hold to a certain idealism, and juuust cocky enough to have faith in his own cleverness and convince himself that he can somehow achieve this mission without sacrificing anyone else’s life

so in short, I don’t buy the dark!Hawks theories. I just can’t. but I guess we’re about to see! and my guess is that Horikoshi will probably have Dabi interrupt before Hawks can reveal his hand either way, because Horikoshi is just like that. what a troll

(ETA: I forgot that sometimes Horikoshi also likes to troll by giving you exactly what you want but in the most painful way possible. shit.)

now, moving on, the other thing I wanted to quickly address is Viz’s translation of this very important line from last week! so as a reminder, here is readheroaca’s version

I’m actually really glad I’ve been reading the fan translations first, because it made me more aware of the potential nuances in this scene. so is KamiJirou actually being confirmed here, or not?? and I spent 20 whole minutes digging into this more the other day because I have no life, so here are my findings!

first, here is the actual Japanese panel

and while I don’t speak Japanese, I can read hiragana well enough that I was able to plug it into a couple of translators to basically figure out what was being said. so here’s the full dialogue:

so the part in bold there is the line in question -- 大事なもの (daijina mono). “daiji” means “precious” or “important”, but the thing is, “mono” for whatever reason is written in hiragana and not kanji. and the word mono (which can be singular or plural btw) can hilariously mean either of the following depending on the kanji used:

lmao. so basically the bottom line is that from what I can see here, Horikoshi purposely didn’t specify! now I could be completely wrong; maybe this is a common enough expression that Caleb felt comfortable deciding that he meant “person.” or maybe he just guessed based on the context. or maybe he just said “fuck it, you only live once” and just went there because why the heck not

anyway, so that was fun, and for me it reinforced the fact that I really do prefer to have at least two different translations to compare in order to get the most complete picture of what exactly is going on here in this stupid manga that I obsess over week after week! so now let’s finally get to reading this thing

I’m just lucky that I’m invested in virtually every single thing that’s going on right now, so it’s a win-win for me no matter where we cut to next

but I do think this is probably just some of the inevitable self-loathing finally spilling over after being forced to play this role and do all these things for the sake of the greater good, rather than him hinting at a desire to turn against the so-called “hero scum.” but still, that’s probably as dark as we’re gonna get from him, and ngl, it’s some heavy stuff

goddammit. feel like we need to cut to some wholesome class 1-A antics or something after all of that. as always, angst is a double-edged sword that I always anticipate and love but am also destroyed by sigh

Me: Hmmm, your timeline isn’t too far off actually, though I’ve been tweaking details in mine to better fit (and then break) canon. For instance- I did not realize when Niflheim got their hands on Ifrit until recently, so THAT fight actually gets bumped up to BEFORE Regina meets Ardyn. She fights Ifrit with only Shiva and Sylva as backup, wins and gets his Blessing at 14. She actually doesn’t meet Titus until after Cor joins up, because @wolfsrainrules tossed the most lovely angsty HC in my lap that required Titus to be Galahdian-born, which means she doesn’t meet him until going to Galahd when she’s ... about 20 I think. They probably go to Galahd both to track down Ramuh and to lay low from King Mors forces (because yes, he’s been trying to chase them down all this time) and Regina’s group were Really Noticeable while retrieving Cor from Gilgamesh’s Tempering Grounds.

Anyway, the Great War happened when Regina was 19, Regina and the others do probably pop into Altissia and Break Things, Mors delays the pulling of the Wall as long as he can (into the next year) because his daughter is running loose out there but eventually does it anyway because Niflheim and Mors™. The Wall pulling happens while Regina is 20 and in Galahd, Niflheim insta-pounces on the opportunity and promptly runs face first into a furious Regina who has not only her Elements but One Very Rage-Filled Ifrit and a Coldly Smiling Shiva to back her up.

As Mad Scientist Dude (what’s his name, Bersithia?) never got his hands on either Ardyn or Ifrit, they have no magic-suppressing technology. Regina proceeds to WIPE THE FLOOR with them all, because unlike Mors she has no Wall to maintain and no fear of the many, many MT units coming her way (they are metal, she has lightning blasts and ice, she likes her odds). Something Special Happens during that entire mess that, combined with Regina essentially going one-woman-army on Galahd’s behalf, earns her the Eternal Loyalty of All Galahdian Clans so HEY Kingsglaive get to form years early and minus the refugee crisis. It’s around this time Titus meets Regina and she asks (demands) he marry her which - Titus probably needs to take a while to reboot from that one.

Ngl I am REALLY tempted to have Regina Go To War on Niflheim after this point, but if she demolishes Niflheim too early then Prompto will not be born and that is too much of a tragedy to contemplate. So- maybe she only PARTIALLY goes to war with them, enough to force a Ceasefire sort of thing, and then figures out how to yeet prophecy and destroy the Starscourge, probably with Ifrit’s and Ardyn’s brainstorming help because Ancient People Who Know Stuff.

Regina totally returns to Insomnia BEFORE Mors kicks the bucket because Confrontation and Mors (plus Hadrian) getting to see just how Regina and her Group have grown up (see the Wild in their eyes and know that Mors NEVER had her on his leash. Not even the day she was born). Plus, Regina getting to go “This is my Husband Titus, no, I am not joking and will not ‘be reasonable’ the Oracle herself officiated our wedding so you can just Deal”.

Also tempted to have Regina force Mors to step down before he can die, so we have a crabby, baffled Grandpa Mors running around, but I might not do this. Depends.

Final week of current challenge/program!

Nov. 21

I woke up barely before 1PM, today.

After some browsing and while listening to the Final TS YouTube Member Stream...

First, today’s DD. 30 side [elbow] plank knee taps with EC (15/15). Admittedly gotten through by the skin of my teeth and slightly sagging form.

Second, Day 25 of the YAC. 3 sets: 50″ boat pose + 50″ knee hug hold. Definitely taking some digging in. This final week is going to really kick my ass, I can tell. (As is frequently the case with these things.)

Last, Day 25 of TEN. Tendon Strength day. Counted 5 sets completed within time, +1 more overtime (to even things out at 3/3). Very manageable work.

I then got some dishes done and made today’s Hello Fresh meal. Chicken sausage and tomato risotto. It had lemony zucch ribbons, but one of them didn’t survive shipping too hot. I personally liked it and it was okay/accessible for pops. Never had zucch this way (marinated & uncooked), but I rather liked it (I ate all of it myself d/t dad’s dental situation and bro’s past complaints about sourness in things)!

Hit the showers and spent most of my night chatting and making Incorrect Sanders Sides Quotes from Metalocalypse. Which was pretty fun, ngl.

Got to bed in the red zone again, roughly same time as yesterday.

Nov. 22

I somehow woke up before 11AM... even tho that meant I was undersleeping by a few hours.

Spent time browsing before getting in my workout pretty early.

First, today’s DD. 2′ butt kicks with EC. I counted 250 reps, happy I maintained a bit above a steady 2/sec pace. I was re-listening to Inverness’s “Lost My Mind“ as BG noise. That song had a great and sustainable tempo to work along.

Second, Day 26 of the YAC. 3x50″ supermen holds, 50″ rest. Similar feelings as yesterday - things are getting pretty tough!

Last, Day 26 of TEN. Cardio day (and/or abs). I counted exactly 7 sets completed withing time. I kinda upped the pace in the latter 2 sets to try to gt all 7 in time. I did opt for stepping in/out of plank rather than jumping - just because of my energy levels. The up and downs were pretty tough - and plank rotations the least fun to do. Think there was a typo too and was told to always go by illustration > text. So I did plank jacks not plank kicks, too.

Spent good deal of rest of night chatting, watching Back to The Future with a friend, and other miscellany.

Got to bed a bit earlier than yesterday.

Nov. 23

I woke up a bit before noon.

After a bit of the usual and some errands, I did my exercise fairly early today.

First, today’s DD. 1′ hollow hold with EC. Intense, but manageable work. The minute felt a bit shorter than I expected today. Maybe because I was excited about a delivery I was expecting to arrive later.

Second, Day 27 of the YAC. 3 sets: 50″ boat pose + 50″ knee hug hold. Still a bit tough, but happy I could get through it.

Last, Day 27 of TEN. Cardio day. I counted 8 sets completed within time, +1 more overtime. I was mostly done with that last one by the time the chimes sounded. Noted a bit of complaining in left ankle and right knee - but I tried to mind how I made the impacts. Guts weren’t super happy and distracting - but I enjoyed it otherwise.

Made the family some dinner, installed that SSD with the tool kit that arrived today (which was a bit nerve-wracking, didn’t want to break or fry anything in the new laptop), and spent rest of night working on setting it up (while also chatting).

Got to bed a couple hours later than yesterday.

Nov. 24

I woke up after 11AM.

Spent a few hours setting up the new computer further and some dishes, before today’s exercise..

First, today’s DD. 2′ skiers with EC. I counted 85 reps by the end of it. Given the ROM of these, it was physically a challenge to get all that close to 1/sec. Regardless, a fun one.

Second, Day 28 of the YAC. 3x50″ supermen holds, 50″ rest. This took some doing - might’ve been made a bit tougher after all those skiers (which kinda has a deadlift action to it - as far as the lower back muscles are concerned.)

Last, Day 28 of TEN. Arm day. I barely managed exactly 15 sets in the duration - kinda sped up that last one to get it done in time. Tough, but not too shabby!

Spent a good chunk of the night getting the new computer set-up for art streaming. Me and friend eventually hit a soft wall for energy to go forward with that that night. Spent rest of it chatting and the usual BS.

Got to bed a little earlier than yesterday.

Nov. 25

I woke up after 11AM. Grossly underslept.

Got to group again today. I was there early so I threw down a couple sentences into that fic while I waited in the meeting room. Group went well enough, talked about grounding stuff.

Got home and did my exercises shortly after.

First, today’s DD. 10 cross tricep extensions with EC. I fully admit my form was a bit sloppy, but acceptable. I know you should drive the action equally between the arms, but I often leaned into one side to start the action before drawing on the other arm more.

Second, Day 29 of the YAC. 3 sets: 1′ boat pose + 1′ knee hug hold. That got pretty brutal, but I’m happy I was able to get through all the sets without dropping.

Last, Day 29 of TEN. Ab day. I counted 7 sets with in time, and 1 extra overtime. Neck was happy it could take a break for this sequence.

I then made today’s Hello Fresh Meal. Thai ginger curry. I was pretty much the only one who liked it (but then I do enjoy curry.) Probably won’t see a reprisal anytime soon.

I spent rest of day in kind of an overtired haze (with some Thanksgiving anxiety in the mix). Mostly the usual stuff and chatting.

Given how exhausted I was, I have no idea WHY I stayed up to around the same hour as last night.

Nov. 26

I woke up proper around 2PM.

I’m glad I elected to stay home for Thanksgiving today (and that Dad decided to stay too, he definitely thought Grandpa crossed a line last time I was over there.) Bro brought home some of what grandma made for the family, though.

Anyways, after some YouTube + Tumblr stuff, did my exercises...

First, accidentally redid yesterday’s DD because [stress] brain thought it was the 25th still. :P

Second, Day 30 of the Yoga Abs Challenge. 3x1′ supermen holds, 1′ rest. I made the dubious choice of eating some of the Thanksgiving dinner today. Did contend with a lil bit of heartburn after set 2, but I’m happy I could get through it.

Third, Day 30 of the TEN Program. Tendon strengthening day. I counted at least 3 completed circuits, maybe the 4th was within time. But my computer display went to sleep and didn’t hear the chimes before confirming timer was stopped.

Last, today’s DD. 1′ toe tap hops with EC. I counted 92 reps by the time was up - hovering at 1.5/sec. Not too shabby, was tempted to try to hit 2/sec, but at the rate I was going at, i didn’t feel up for it today. A pretty fun little exercise.

Did some dishes, spent time chatting and watching some stuff with a friend. Did a little bit of writing too.

I got to bed later than yesterday.

Nov. 27

I woke up after 11AM.

After some YouTube, I did my only intended exercise for the day (active rest day) - today’s DD. 20 up/down planks with EC. Wearing long sleeves always helps. Took a bit of grit - but mission accomplished.

I spent some time archiving my fitness blogging again.

Then I made today’s Hello Fresh Meal. Mozzarella and herb chicken. This was an enjoyable one for the family. I also appreciated that it was mostly a “set it and forget it“ kinda recipe too. Sometimes it’s nice to not have to babysit the meal so much and chill. (Especially on low energy days.)

After some of the usual, I did some dishes and updated my sleep data logs and revised some of the fitness archive. Spent rest of night chatting about that and about writing stuff.

I got to bed a little earlier than yesterday.

Summary of Experience:

I completed my challenge and program on the 26th.

The Yoga Abs Challenge started to really kick my butt in the last week - but I’m glad I got through it. The boats were a little relaxed (knees bent) - but no less a cakewalk. Though specified otherwise, I’m kind of glad I did this before my main workout. (Probably would’ve dropped earlier on the ab days, that’s for sure!)

I really enjoyed going through the TEN Program! It was fun to try to challenge myself to get as many circuits/sets in those ten minutes as I could. My numbers (minimum completed in time; might be worth charting this data by category of WO - such as “cardio” vs “arm” days):

3 sets: 2 days

5 sets: 7 days

6 sets: 4 days

7 sets: 7 days

8 sets: 3 days

9 sets: 3 days

12 sets: 1 days

14 sets: 1 days

15 sets: 2 days

And I counted 16 days where I did at least one extra set overtime, either for symmetry (especially in the cases of “tendon strengthening” days) or because I was mostly done with it before the chimes sounded!

Some stuff

About Kodi and Majid’s parents that I was thinking about while making lunch the other day! Really, this is just a poor attempt on expanding on the bois in general, but oh well! Thought it would be easier to put these thoughts in a separate post instead of adding to their profiles since this wasn’t directly relevant to them (・・;)ゞ I guess?? dshgfjhdsf Honestly, I think this is more for me just so I can get some stuff straightened out. I’m pretty bad w/ consistency after all...

Majid’s Parents

EDIT (06/13/2021): Drew up some new headshots for Majid and Kodi’s parents! Hopefully they look a bit better than before!

Past me writing Majid’s bio: Yeah, keep the part about his parents vague;;; Idek what to do about that

Me on Monday rolling up some embutido for lunch: Hey, y’know what-

- Mother: Lara (won’t reveal her last name; when asked for it by Majid’s father, she jokingly suggested she take his last name instead) - Father: Kadir Ansari - Compared to Kodi’s parents, these 2 have much more info behind them b/c I have to explain both of their disappearances, so (・_・;) get comfy - Kadir---> Simple businessman in the Land of the Hot Sands; Made and sold jewelry for a living; Had a fairly small shop dedicated to his craft - Lara---> Runaway criminal from a land up north (if you ask me to clarify which country it is, I will cry;;; what does the Twst world even look like in the 1st place??)

Didn’t kill anyone, but rather a string of robberies and prison escapes up her sleeve; had a large family that she had to provide for, unfortunately this landed her in a lot of trouble

- Lara snuck into Kadir’s place late at night by climbing in through his window

She was immediately asked to leave

Kadir eventually relented since she had nowhere to go/he already had a long day at work and didn’t want to argue

- Once Lara explained her situation to Kadir in the morning, she was asked to leave again.

After breakfast ofc

Use the shower if you want to, but don’t use up all the hot water

And he would give her some money and other basic necessities to use on the way, but (￣ヘ￣) that was it

She really needed to go, tho; Kadir didn’t want to charged w/ harboring a criminal

- Lara begged to stay w/ Kadir, telling him in tears that she would do anything for him so long as he gave her a place to stay for the time being

Well... it wouldn’t hurt to have some extra help in his shop... and it would be heartless to kick a crying woman back on the streets, especially in broad daylight...

Fine. She can stay. But only for a little while, okay?

- When it comes to personality, Kadir is often seen as a serious man. He can become surprisingly raucous and joking w/ his friends and frequent customers, but otherwise, he was all business.

Has a fairly straightforward way of speaking; like Majid, he might come off as a little rude sometimes

His resting face makes him seem unapproachable at first, but he’s a pretty reliable guy

- Compared to Kadir, Lara has a more easygoing demeanor; fairly sly as well

Develops a habit of teasing Kadir once she warms up to him, either through her words or by constantly sticking close to him (this is probably where Majid got some of his clinginess from ngl); she wanted to see what exactly was behind that ever so serious facade

Kadir tries to brush her off most of the time, saying it’s not appropriate, especially in front of the customers; slowly becomes fond of it as time goes on

Tends to beat around the bush when she speaks; she won’t lie, but she won’t give you all the truth either

Oh! Yeah, and she’s pretty good at sleight of hand tricks too! :D These tricks seem to be a little more than just mere illusions at times, tho...

- Both of them are unbelievably stubborn (ah, yes, this trait comes from both sides of the family)

- They tend to butt heads a lot at the beginning; enemies to lovers 30k

- Speaking of tropes, these 2 probably become involved in a fake marriage thing so Kadir’s reputation doesn’t suffer when people see him bringing a strange woman into his house every night after work (*exchanging rings* “This doesn’t mean anything, okay? I just can’t have any more rumors.” “>:3c Okay, Habibi~” “... And don’t ever call me that in public, or I’ll pretend to not know you.”)

- It’s also a bit difficult for Lara to work at the shop at first

Kadir can be really picky when it comes to quality, and he certainly won’t lighten up on any of his wokers, regardless if they’re newbies or not

That and Lara can be heavy handed at times; knocking over display cases as she gestures to them and accidentally breaking parts of jewelry

I would love to say that she eventually gets the hand of everything, but :/ she really doesn’t; she’s entertaining to watch, though lol

- Once Kadir and Lara actually start falling for each other, they try to flirt in subtle ways, trying to get a reaction out of the other; or, at least, they think it’s subtle; oh gosh, their poor, poor coworkers ( ; ω ; )

- Lara might have had to wear some form of head covering/head scarf while working or out in public in general; her blonde hair and pale complexion makes her stick out like a sore thumb in a crowd, and she can’t risk getting recognized and taken back to jail again

- Majid... was an accident.

His parents were excited for his arrival nevertheless; Kadir would’ve bought a bunch of stuff beforehand like the worried father he was; Lara is happily spoiled w/ the amount of food she gets to eat during pregnancy (girl loves her food)

Once Majid was born, you bet he was coddled over; was often called Lara’s “little treasure”; Kadir was tempted to make Majid kind of like a mascot for his business, but decided that wasn’t professional (he really wanted to tho;;; thinks about it everytime he sees his son’s cute pudgy face)

- Lara was eventually caught and arrested; sent back to her home country for trial a few years after Majid had been born

Kadir leaves Majid w/ a trusted friend of his in order to attend Lara’s trial

He... doesn’t come back

The friend couldn’t afford to take care of Majid on his own, so he drops him off at an orphanage, promising to come back for the child once he had enough money to support them both

This man in particular works hard to set up his own appraisal/curio shop in the future and ohoho >:3c things are really coming together now

- Majid spent some time in the orphanage before escaping; he didn’t like how strictly everything was run

escaped enough times that the staff members soon gave up on him and let him roam free

surprisingly, no one (w/ a few exceptions) remembers baby Majid nor his parents; the Ansari jewelry shop was closed down and set up for lease the day Kadir disappeared; what happened in Lara’s trial was essentially a mystery, but perhaps the consequences of it could explain these odd events...

Kodi’s Parents

A bit shorter b/c these 2 literally had one (1) summer to themselves before creating the child, so there’s no slow burn here

- Mother: Colette Sepiama (Maiden name: Roussel; took father’s last name in remembrance of him)

- Father: Dimitri Sepiama

- Co+Di= Codi (but, like, with a “K”)

- 1st meeting was a bit odd

- Colette was having a beach vacation, chilling as she collected seashells along the shore

And then some naked guy approached her, asking for help while sobbing his heart out

Didn’t want to find out what kind of “help” he needed, so she tried to power walk away, but he ended up tripping while following after her

Stared at the sad scene of a butt naked man crying into the wet sand for a couple of moments before wrapping him into a towel and paying a visit to the nearest souvenir store

He eventually calmed down enough to explain himself once he got the Hawaiian touristy shirt and khakis on (oh, gosh, now I’m getting Crowley flashbacks (;;;*_*) make it stop-)

- Dimitri was part of a little “experiment” a friend of his was conducting, testing out various potions on him at any opportunity

Yea, they were a pretty messed up friend; at the very least, they made sure none of their potions would kill him outright

One of the potions gave him human legs (since he was a cuttlefish merman beforehand)

The trouble was: How does he turn back?

- They were the kind of couple who shares one braincell, spending the entire summer working together trying to figure out a solution to his predicament

Also, Colette lowkey thought Dimitri was lying about the whole cuttlefish merman thing, but since she thought he was kinda cute, she agreed to help him out

- I mentioned this before in Kodi’s profile, but I guess I’ll mention it again; Kodi’s pre-contract self was basically a male version of his mom

Basically, she was the type to always keep her emotions in check (well, it’s not as if she had a choice; she was awful at trying to show her emotions)

The type of person whose angry face and happy face were exactly the same

But she was kind enough and didn’t discriminate, even if the person she was dealing w/ claimed to be a mermaid from the deep sea

- In contrast to Colette, Dimitri is more like Kodi’s post-contract self

He cries;;; a lot

He’s just in a new and frightening situation, okay?? (╥﹏╥) And his human body was significantly shorter than his merman body, so everything is gigantic to the now smol boi; he often follows behind Colette because, even tho she’s taller than him, he finds her reassuring

Colette finds his personality cute; she likes being relied upon

- ahsghj I can imagine these 2 going on library dates, flipping through books and maybe falling asleep at some point as the setting sun casts an amber glow over them through the dusty windows, and it’s honestly the cutest thing

- Also, neither of them have magical abilities, but Colette’s grandmother did; it basically skipped a generation

This is why Kodi’s magic is weaker than others’, but he works hard to improve himself

- At the end of the summer, Dimitri is turned back

Turns out the potion only lasts for a certain amount of time :/ wow

They probably had some sort of tearful parting at the beach, w/ this time Colette breaking into tears instead of Dimitri

- Couple weeks after the vacation :D Colette finds out she’s pregnant

Realizes her relatives probably wouldn’t believe her if she told them the truth, so she fabricated a story about a simple meeting w/ a cute guy on vacation she hooked up with

I mean, she wasn’t technically lying about that

Bonus! Berenice’s Parents

A perfectly normal, perfectly boring family

- Cassidy is on the left and Argos is on the right!

- Since Berenice was based off the spirits in the whirlpool as well as the river Styx itself/herself, I searched up the parents of the goddess aaanndd

- Kind of?? Based them off Tethys and Oceanus??? Tho they are both of fairy descent; Cassidy is half and so is Argos, so maybe (´･_･`) that would work out? In terms of making a child of their own??? I didn’t want to go against the set fairy lore in stuff like Pixie Hollow, so-

- I always covered the tops of Berenice’s ears to avoid raising any suspicion of her true background, but, yea, they are slightly pointed as well. Much smaller than her parents, maybe abnormally so, but they are there (side note: if you saw me accidentally draw berenice w/ human ears (*⁰▿⁰*) no you didnt)

- They lived with Berenice in an area just outside of the Valley of Thorns called the Land of Lotuses, so there was a large fairy population here too.

- As such, Berenice never thought to question if the life she was living was considered “normal” in the eyes of outsiders. So you’ll often hear her describe her past life as boring and ordinary, both to make a person lose interest and just b/c she truly thought she lived such a life.

- I described Berenice as being an only child, but I never go into detail on what happened with her family after she died 🧐 Did she perhaps unknowingly gain another sibling? Or two? Or three???

- lol wait I just remembered I described them as getting up there in age. Maybe in human standards they were, but they were still considered like??? Middle aged??? When it came to fairies???

- They had no prominent influence in the Valley of Thorns nor in the Land of Lotuses, but they were both considered a respectable people involved in an overseas trade business when living in their old coastal town.

- Both settled down in the Land of Lotuses to raise Berenice and also to hide away from a scandal that ended up bankrupting their company but shshhhh
