Documentation of my comphet throughout the years 🧍‍♀️
Okay so I thought it’d be funny to talk abt my most intense male fixation eras as a lesbian (idk i’m just shitposting into the void again) judge me all u want (it is probably needed) but i need ppl to understand the real me 🙏
Tumblr media
IT CROPPED HALF HIS FACE OUT but i just realised if you aren’t british ur gonna have no idea who he is anyone (he’s lachlan white from emmerdale) omg this was an ERA everyone around me thought i was going insane (i was) but like they just didn’t get it he slayed so hard at a level that will never be reached (literally) also tom atkinson on sex education was like a full circle moment for me omg but anyways i was like 11-12 here these were literally my formative years this changed me FOREVER don’t judge he slayed omg
Tumblr media
THIS okay so u can’t even blame me for this one it’s just correct. yes he’s like walking masculinity stereotype BUT he also had depth and was interesting 😌 the fanfics were SO GOOD this is when i really got into fanfiction and accidentally read smut where someone get pregnant in the hunger games 🧍‍♀️i read this one fic that was like x reader AND THEY STRAIGHT UP BOTH DIED but anyways. i read fanfics abt literally everyone thg character (read abt women and convinced myself i was still straight lmfao) but he was the stand out for me. i recently revisited this era and the fics ppl write on ao3 r INSANE omg like what is wrong with u ppl ( i say this lovingly but also wtf )
Tumblr media
OMGOMGOMG BEST ERA OF MY LIFE u actually don’t understand u just had to be there. a solid percentage of my brain even to this day is made up of this man. this is like the stupidest thing ever but when i was like 14 i would just mirror his personality (and tone down the arsehole part obvs) so that i could get more talkative AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED nobody in the whole world will ever understand how much he means to me (i don’t rly understand it myself tbh) and ik ppl literally fuckinf despise him but i will not tolerate the dandy mott slander bc he is literally part of my core identity atp i revisit him every few months just to fully reconnect with my inner being. did anyone read Companion? that shit was crazy also i wrote a fic abt him on wattpad and people actually READ IT so anyways best era of my life it truly never got better i rly hit me peak (i had 0 friends) the few friends i had literally told me i talked abt him too much and it made them like me less 💀
Tumblr media
this was arguably my most chill era like yea i was pretty obsessive but with marvel it’s so normalised to be so intense abt everything i kinda just fit right in. there’s too much professor fanfiction r u ppl okay 🧍‍♀️ also more actor fanfiction than i have ever seen for any other man in my LIFE but the capitalism went hard during this era the fluff was so good. arguably my most comforting era? idk i can’t rly explain that one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay so these two r kinda completely different but also (for obvious reasons) the exact same. gotham was my most openly gay era and for that i will forever be grateful HOWEVER the kristen kringle haters were doing WAY TOO MUCH like she’s already dead why u doing her like that constantly (u will see this sentiment echoed later abt someone else hmmm i wonder who) but yea and then YES i was a paul dano lesbian (literally wasn’t out as lesbian at this point lmao) honestly this is probably the era my friends hated the most they would either awkwardly pretend to agree/care abt the shit i was saying or straight up tell me i was delusional 💀 my friends even now still call it my worst era but i LOVED IT kinda solidified my position at the bottom of the hellish secondary school hierarchy but i still had a good time. the paul dani riddler fanfics r next level tho the way ppl would just post STALKER fics constantly with like zero warnings and it was never labelled as yandere 🧍‍♀️i also got in an argument with a writer on wattpad bc they made the riddler and the oc have like a 6 year age gap and they met when she was 10 and he was like 16 💀 other than that good vibes all round
Tumblr media
tbh this era was pretty brief i can’t fully explain what happened here like the vibes were immaculate but also insane WHY IS THERE SM YANDERE FANFIC peter parker is so nice but then in fanfics it’s like 👹 but i rly like spider-man HOWEVER this then led me to my final destination on the comphet journey…
Tumblr media
omg were finally at the final stop the peak of comphet ( i came out as lesbian within this era ) arguably not my finest hour bc i swore i would never watch criminal minds bc the number of seasons is WAY TOO MUCH but here we are i watched it bc i read too much fanfic abt this man. i have lots of criticism for the fandom but he in himself is acc a rly good character. this was supposed to be like my ethical era but he’s acc killed like a bunch of ppl and thomas gibson is MESSY (don’t cancel me pls i say that lovingly 🫶) the haley hotchner misogyny nearly killed me off i don’t think i’ve ever been so miserable in a fandom and the fanfics kinda take feminism back a few hundred years but pretty good besides that
anyways there is my brainrot i hope the two (at most) ppl who will read this enjoyed 🫶 LETS GO LESBIANS LETS GO im gonna say i posted this in honour of international lesbian day even tho that was several days ago

Good morning who’s ready for a controversial take ...... I have never actually seen a radfem make an argument against poly relationships other than that the ppl in them are usually annoying kweer types . I don’t rly care abt poly shit and am not interested in it myself bc I barely even have the energy for one relationship but like I kinda don’t get why radfems are So against them. If anyone has an argument for or against I’d love to hear it. I feel like the closest I’ve seen to an argument against it is that men use it as an excuse to be shitty and not have to address the careless ways they treat their female partners but like men do that in monogamous relationships too? I feel like perhaps the problem is just men and having relationships with men at all, not non monogamy itself
#like don’t get me wrong I think at least 90% of poly people are annoying as hell#but I also kind of think there is something to be said abt how like..... a culture that is rly hyper focused on monogamous relationships#maybe leads to relationships becoming rly possessive and toxic and gives us the whole like isolating nuclear family shit#like it gets to the point where ppl act like ur partner should be the only important/most important person in ur life#idk I also don’t think it has to be like one is right and the other is wrong#again I myself am not interested in being poly#but like I’m not offended by ppl who think that’s something we need to think about#I think it is interesting to ask ourselves why we think we can only be romantically involved with one person at a time#I’m sure there are valid reasons#I just think it’s interesting idk I think it depends on the person and the relationship but I just don’t rly get why radfems treat it like#this rly clear cut ‘monogamy good polyamory bad’ issue#when rly it’s like . historically monogamy has been just as harmful to women as polyamory bc its ...... men that are the problem lol#relationships with men will always be harmful to women not bc of the relationship structure but bc of the men#u kno#idk I’ve also known a few poly radfems and I think they’re rly smart and have made very good points about it#does anyone who was on terfblr in like 2016/17 remember marsinlibra and the stuff she would say abt this topic#I thought her points were rly interesting I didn’t fully agree with her but she made me think#does anyone know if she’s still around under a different url or somethin id love to follow her again#she made ppl big mad lol#also one thought that I should have put earlier in the tags : I honestly think if ur gonna date men then like monogamous relationships have#the potential to be even more harmful than poly relationships bc it’s easier for them to isolate you#idk tho I have never dated men seriously or been in a poly relationship so

jed vs. women anon back again to yet again agree with everything you said. i also wouldve liked to see more farida, especially bc what we were left with was a quite damaging portrayal of a queer woc who seemed to be pretty toxic relationship-wise, which is not the positive representation that they thought it would be. i agree, steve is bland, and kate and ted have always been the more interesting of the trio. ive seen some people online arguing that the kate and jo storyline wasnt finished bc ultimately its steves story, not kates, but then why even bother to show kate at MIT in the first place?? if its steves story then surely we should have stayed at AC12 for the whole season, with kate only being relevant when steve visited the Hill? If its steves story why are we being shown kate and jo scenes directly intercut with scenes of this seasons ‘romance’ between him and steph? the fact that, because it was left so open, it almost feels like we should assume kate was just playing jo rly doesnt sit right with me (nor does it make sense bc we're led to believe they had some kind of relationship before jo is under investigation) and kinda feels like they deliberately never concluded it to escape backlash from both sides (avoiding the str8s being angry that kate was queer or vice versa). felt at times very much like pre-covid he was happy to go forward with some kind of relationship between them, but post-covid (possibly due to restrictions on intimacy idk) he floundered and decided that the best thing he could do if they couldnt kiss or hug was to just forget it ever happened.
I wish we were at the pub having these conversations, they’re too good and we could talk for hours about them. :( Thanks for your thoughtful words again. X
I fully agree with your point about Farida. Jed portrayed her as a needy, possessive, jealous lesbian, who stalks her ex and cuts up her leather jacket that probably cost Jo at least £50. That is never a good look and it is quite a bitter portrayal of a queer character. It’s a horrible shame given Farida is one of the few ethnic minorities on the show and an open lesbian - she was clearly a good person with good intentions, who didn’t know how to love someone in a healthy way yet (given that Jo was dealing with her own trauma, this surely would've impacted their communication). It’s shite that Jed didn’t feel this aspect was important enough to explore further. However, I do also understand sometimes there are characters that are introduced only to drive plot. Ultimately, the storyline wasn’t about Farida, but she certainly fed into it and there was much more that could be said here. Maybe Farida will return in series 7 (if there is one)?
The argument that Jo and Kate’s interactions were part of Steve’s wider story, and that is why they weren’t addressed in the finale, is kinda ridiculous. It’s an accusation that annoys me. What significance is Steve meant to have, right now? Steve had so much gusto and passion in series 1. He was angry about the Police corruption and innocent people getting killed. He wanted to make things right. Now he is tired and a slither of that man (he has gone through a lot of trauma, so this is unsurprising.) I would love for Steve to have a more significant story line in series 6, but unfortunately he didn’t. All we took from Steve this series is he had a bad back and erectile dysfunction - which is shite for him but it led to nothing, no break-throughs, no big announcements, no shock twists. All that build up about Steve ignoring his emails led to him having his firearm taken away, and even that didn’t play into anything. I thought perhaps Jed had included this scene to foreshadow that Steve would fear for his life at some point later in the episode, and he’d need his gun to protect himself (or else he’d die). But that never happened either, so why do we care if he has a bad back? Why do we care that his gun was taken away? Why introduce a theme if it doesn’t impact the overarching story? There’s red herrings and then there is plain baaad writing.
I don’t know why Jed left Jo and Kate’s dynamic open, like he did. I don’t know. Personally, I wouldn’t even say he left it open - he completely disregarded it, as if the previous six episodes of interaction with Jo and Kate never happened. Saying it was left ‘open’ suggests it can still be explored, but with Jo in witness protection (with a new identity and an undisclosed address) and Kate firing into Steve, I don’t trust Jed considers any aspect of Kate’s relationship with Jo as open. He won’t even allow Kate to explore her feelings there, which were so clearly confused and hopeful and genuine towards Jo. This is awful, by the way. I’m not enjoying typing that, and I sincerely hope I’m wrong. As I mentioned before, I'm only watching series 7 if Kelly MacDonald returns.
I also feel like COVID and social distancing rules isn’t a good enough excuse to warrant dropping Jo and Kate’s storyline. I didn’t think Jo and Kate would’ve kissed, at least not on screen, and I don’t believe for one second Jed was ever planning to write this in. The physical limitations of COVID shouldn’t play into it. All it needed was one single sentence in the script. A single fleeting look when Kate rescued Jo from the van. It needed words or something. COVID doesn’t hold any relevance in concluding (or giving answers to) Jo and Kate’s relationship that they took great pains to include. So if he tries to say this, I’ll come for him.
I thought I’d be a wee bit calmer today about what happened to Jo and Kate who would've been honestly perfect together but I’ve just realised that I’m not! Haha.

I have an idea for the Bakugou vs Mirio sequel! Three words: obligatory beach episode. Class 1-A has a beach day and The Big 3 tag along. There's swimsuits, the two bicker over who's gonna help Y/N with her sunscreen, and just general summer love shenanigans. Mirio and Bakugou do agree on a 'temporary truce' somewhere in the middle of the trip when they catch Mineta perving on Y/N, but once he's dealt with it's right back to hating each other. They (rly Mirio) TRY to behave for her, though.
Tumblr media
When Mirio had first heard that Class 1-A was having a beach day, well he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help. Of course, there was an alternative motive for his volunteering to be a monitor. The Big Three was going to tag along as a group, however, his intention was to fully make sure Bakugou didn’t get his hands on you. Maybe it was a little selfish but he still didn’t appreciate the way Bakugou had treated you and he wasn’t about to let the angry blond be alone with you. So somehow he convinced Nejire and Tamaki to join the first years on their trip.
Of course, he was also a little eager to show off his body in a way that didn’t necessarily use his quirk. The sun felt amazing on his skin and he smiled as he heard the gentle crash of the waves against the sand. It was beautiful, however, he didn’t have much time to enjoy it. His goal was set, to find you. Of course, on his way, he had bumped into Bakugou who also seemed to be looking for you. “Back off, dumbass! Y/n is mine and I’ll be damned if you fuck up this trip for me, got it!?” he snapped at the third year, but Mirio just laughed him off.
“Hey now, that’s not really nice!” he pointed out as he placed his hands on his hips. “Besides, she isn’t an object. I think I’ve told you that before, right?” Bakugou growled in response and curled his hands into fists. “Just stay out of my way!” he snapped before pushing against Mirio’s chest and continuing his search, of course, Mirio didn’t let him get far. He trailed behind the younger male and they both paused when they saw you. Sitting on your towel toward the middle of the beach. Their eyes scanning you, taking in how you looked in that bathing suit.
Mirio cleared his throat, trying to ignore the blush on his face and though Bakugou had an equally red face. He was the first one to charge over to you, which took Mirio by surprise. “Hey, wait!” he called after him and Bakugou once more tried to shove the third year away. “I said back off, hedge head!” he snapped and Mirio frowned, “Hedge head?” he repeated, unsure of where Bakugou had gotten that nickname from. However, they both seemed to forget you were sitting in front of them. “Um...hi guys, what’s up?” you questioned, somewhat hoping they wouldn’t start a fight like last time.
You really didn’t want to be in the middle of drama again. But they both seemed to turn their attention to you with large smiles, “Hi y/n!” Mirio was the first to greet you. “Need help with your sunscreen?” he questioned and Bakugou growled, “Eh Y/n, don't listen to him. I can help you, I’m better at applying sunscreen!” he claimed and Mirio laughed, crossing his arms over his chest. “How exactly are you better?” he questioned and Bakugou turned to glare at him.
A sigh escaped as you slowly tiptoed away, eventually finding Mina and joining her and the rest of the girls in a friendly volleyball game. Mirio and Bakugou had taken search after you, almost relieved when they saw you playing a harmless beach game. Mirio smiled and watched as you delivered some nice hits and blocks. He turned to look at Bakugou who had his arms crossed and an annoyed expression on his face. He chuckled and looked around at the small crowd forming, most of which consisted of the male students from Class 1-A but Mirio noticed something as he looked at them.
It seemed the young boys were only interested in the chest physics of your game, rather than the actual sport itself. Which somehow bothered Mirio, given you looked amazing in your swimsuit but there was more to you than just your body or at least he thought so. He elbowed Bakugou, “Hey,” he whispered, “Do you notice the stares?” Bakugou turned to him with a glare. “Eh!?” he snapped and Mirio hushed him before continuing. “They seem to be awfully interested in Y/n.” he continued, though Iida and Midoriya seemed to be the most appropriate out of the boys.
“So what?” Bakugou said and Mirio shrugged, “I don’t want Y/n to be bothered by all of this so…” he frowned a bit and extended his hand out to Bakugou who seemed both confused and angry. “I want a temporary truce, at least to make sure Y/n is protected from all these guys,” he said, and though Bakugou didn’t like the idea of a truce with someone he was competing with. He nonetheless took Mirio’s hand. “At least until that problem is solved, then it’s back enemies. Got it!?” he snapped and Mirio smiled in return. “Got it,” he said, though he failed to notice that Mineta seemed to be the worst out of the crowd.
He was practically drooling and making comments there were less than appropriate. But you and the rest of the girls seemed to pay him no mind, at least not until later. Somehow Mineta had set his sights on you and despite the fact you were actively trying to avoid Mirio and Bakugou, Mineta was an added annoyance. You couldn’t help but feel his eyes on you and tried to shrug it off as your beach day continued. You eventually found another spot to sunbathe, played in the water for a bit, and even got a treat from the ice cream truck. Of course, you hadn’t expected Mineta to come up to you when a bit of ice cream dropped from the stick and onto your chest. “Gee, that seems like quite the problem. Want me to lick it off?” the purple menace questioned.
You froze, your eyes growing wide. “Uh...what?” you responded before a voice broke through the air. “Back the fuck off!” immediately you recognized it was Bakugou and he was glaring at Mineta, his hands held out and fingers spread as multiple explosions sounded from his palms. Mirio was right behind him and decided to try and pull the angry blond away. “No need for violence, hey there friend,” he said, referring to Mineta who still looked terrified. “Can you not talk to Y/n that way, she’s kind of special to me and well, there’s no need to make anyone feel uncomfortable,” he explained though Mineta seemed more afraid of the fact that Mirio was at least four times his size and his smile came off as intimidating.
“Huh?” Mirio blinked when Mineta took off running, “Well, that’s a little weird.” he said as he rubbed the back of his head. However, you were busy trying to wipe off the ice cream and Mirio turned his head when he noticed this. Bakugou merely licked his lips, “Oh here, you can use my towel.” Mirio insisted as he pulled it off his shoulder. “Oh uh...thanks,” you replied, “Pff.” Bakugou huffed and crossed his arms.
“Why the hell did you stop me!? I could have had that little dumbass taken care of.” Mirio frowned and turned to him. “Violence isn’t always the answer you know.” Bakugou scraped his teeth together, “What the hell are you talking about dumbass!?” he snapped, “There’s violence everywhere, I don’t give a damn if you’re a sunshine boy! Even you should be able to see it.” Mirio chuckled, “Well...sometimes it’s best to distance yourself from it, isn’t that right, Y/n?” he turned to look at you, but much like before you had chosen to walk away from the almost fight between Mirio and Bakugou.
“Oh great! Your dumbass scared her away! Idiot.” The angry blond growled and Mirio tapped his chin. “She has my towel, well I don’t mind! She can keep it for as long as she needs it. But I am a little worried about Mineta.” Bakugou’s anger disappeared for a moment. “Yeah…” he said, turning to look away. His hands curling into fists. “I’m going to find her first!” he declared before taking off and Mirio nearly panicked, running right behind him. One day maybe the boys would eventually come to another compromise, but not today.

"This season isn’t about toxic relationships please watch skam españa s3" i wanted to ask you what you thought of how skam españa handle that topic? I thought they did a rly good job but i'm interested in your opinion considering your experience (if you want to talk about it ofc!) thank you anyway, take care
Thank you so much for the ask actually, I always wanted to write a review for this season but wanted to wait until the end of the season and then just never did it so this is a great reason to do it now<33
Okay where do I start.. first of I loved this season like a lot. It's probably one of my favorite skam seasons ever it might even go hand in hand with skam france s3 as my two favourites. Nicole and the writers did an, in my opinion, amazing job at portraying a toxic relationship and the consequences of it in a really realistic and relatable way.
When I started watching this season I was pretty sure that they would go down a very different route than the other seasons and that Mikael would turn out to be trouble- maybe a mix of the og Nico and also the Willhelm character. But I told myself: watch this season and pretend that you don't know anything about the storyline and see how you'll feel about the characters and their relationships to have a "real" reaction to their actions
And what's shocking and very realistic at the same time is that I, too, would have probably fallen for Mikael the same way Nora did. I mean at the beginning everything was fine he was taking her out on romantic dates, they had a first rooftop kiss, he made efforts for her and so on. What I loved really just loved about this season was that they portrayed that everyone can fall into toxic relationships in such a realistic way. It can happen to everyone. It doesn't matter whether you're a feminist, it doesn't matter whether you could recognize such toxic behavior on tv shows or in other people's relationships,, it can still happen to yourself in real life.
You see I of all people who should have known better, who's been through shit like that for years would have still fallen for Mikael just the same in the beginning and that really hit me.
And why is that? Because you can't recognize such behavior from the beginning. Toxic people aren't just black and white. If the person would treat you badly from the beginning you wouldn't get yourself into a relationship/be friends with them. The problem is that toxic people are way more complex and the situation is more complicated than that. At first everything is fine, you're happy and you feel safe with that person, you trust them, you spend a lot of time with them and then slowly from time to time your abuser starts doing questionable things like in Nora's case Mikael blocking Alejandro's phone call when he was calling her, his facial expressions when he saw Nora talking to other guys... little moments like that but when it happens you you don't really think much about it.
So your abuser starts behaving toxic more and more, you get manipulated, you slowly start losing parts of yourself, do stuff just because your abuser wants you to and so on. I'm sure that looking back Nora wouldn't even be able to tell you at what point Mikael started to become toxic for her because that's always very tricky to tell and the lines are blurry. It's all those little things abusers do, turning you into someone you don't want to be at all, that add up to eachother at the end. And as soon as you realize what's happening to you it's too late and very hard to get out of there again.
And skam españa really did an amazing job at portraying that. Not just in the big scenes but in all those little moments too. I felt and understood Nora's feelings and pain like I've never understood any character ever before. When she started getting nervous whenever Mikael didn't respond to her texts and she started freaking out because she thought that he might be mad at her- I felt that. The way she panicked and felt like shit whenever they were actually fighting, that desperate need to make up with him so everything would be okay again, not just because she missed him but because you feel like absolute shit and are actually afraid of what your abuser is gonna do when you're not getting along well at the moment- I felt this. The way her hands were shaking, the way she cried and felt overpowered and helpless. The way Mikael always made sure to be above her, seem smarter and wiser, make her feel stupid so she would listen to him and agree with everything he says- I felt it all so so very much. There's no other show that ever made me feel as represented and understood than s3 of skam españa.
The scene that actually hurt watching the most was the scene when she and Mikael are lying next to eachother and she sits up and finally tells him that she wants to break up with him. I literally needed to pause the video several times while watching because this scene reminded me of everything I ever wanted to do. Seeing Nora being able to be brave enough and stand up for herself and saying all the things I desperately wanted to tell the toxic person in my life broke my heart because Nora did what I couldn't do and said exactly what I never managed to put into words myself.
This is my favorite quote from that scene and from this whole season in general because Nora put everything I've felt but never knew how to say perfectly into words here: "Look, do you want to know what's wrong? That you always turn things around, ok? And I always end up doing things I don't want to do. I've never forced you to do anything. Never. Well, no and yes. I don't know when it's me who decides or when I'm doing things because you want me to or because I think you want me to." This hit me and hurt the most while watching this season
Also I really really loved how they portrayed all of this in a hopeful way, how this show never did anything too over the top or from drama and shock value. It was representation of horrible and realistic things people experience every day and skam españa said: no matter what, you are not alone with this, you have a support system, Nora has her friends who will protect and help her as soon as Nora finds the courage to reach out for help. You should do the same, don't be afraid to ask for help there are always people who will support and help you in situations like this." They did that!! They made girls support girls while at the same time showing how it can be hard to reach out for help especially in the beginning when you're still manipulated by your abuser. They portrayed how hard it is to recognize what's going on when something like that happens to your friend/family and not knowing how to help the person at first (Eva and Emma who both noticed how Mikael changed her)
The ending gets me everytime because it's so simple yet so meaningful. It doesn't end eith a huge party or Nora getting back together with Alejandro and being happy and in love again like other shows would have done. The ending is really bittersweet, she is surrounded by her friends, yet she is still hurting, struggling and most of all healing because it's a progress and doesn't happen over night. She's getting better and is slowly getting back to the old Nora (13 M poster) but also knowing that she will never be able to fully get her old self, the Nora before Mikael back. But she is growing and healing and getting better every day a little more with the support of those around her and this was the perfect and most wonderful ending to her season

The KI talk was pretty positive other than aida harping on not being sure if he’s queerbaiting. She kind of explains her reasoning but it’s still super 😒😒😒. Otherwise it was interesting to hear the perspectives of Louis and ira who are on the brink of being harry hive as they would call it lol. the casual fanness was def showing lmao but it rly wasn’t bad
Yeah, I finally listened today and it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting based on what I saw online briefly on Wednesday. I’m kind of surprised by Aida’s queerbaiting comment (I’m pretty sure Aida uses they/them pronouns, by the way) but I thought Ira and Louis are very close to being totally hooked! And their comments about Harry’s personality or whatever didn’t bother me. I think for casual readers/fans, Harry’s conscious decision to attempt to pull back so much of his personal life/personality from internet discussion isn’t obvious, but they’ll learn and come around. (The DWD press circuit is going to open a lot of eyes, I think!)
Anon 2:  MANY things were said I don’t agree with here on this day. But Louis Virtel had a point about Harry’s profiles not being interesting but I don’t think anyone is ready for that conversation.
See my response above - I think that’s a conscious decision by Harry and his team and I support it if that’s what he wants - it’s certainly not costing him any sales/popularity/headlines!
Anon 3:  Sorry, the conversation you didn’t want. But oh well! I knew Keep It would talk about I mean it was cookie cutter in their wheel house topic.
When I made that comment last week (was that just last week? Jesus.) I wasn’t aware how fully the discourse had taken over the internet/world, so I’m not at all surprised that they dedicated so much time to it. I’m just happy to hear Ira say he loves Harry and that the episode title was dedicated to him! xox

Homura’s Flash Reviews [February 2019]
This will be my first review post for 2019!!  I’m watching winter anime currently which I won’t be reviewing til the season is over, but for those who are interested, here’s what I’m watching for winter!
The Price of Smiles
Ace Attorney
Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka
The Promised Neverland
Mysteria Friends
I’m also gonna be adding a few other things to these Flash Reviews and also review the movies I’ve seen during the month, just cause I rly like having opinions lol.  So without further ado, here are the anime, shows, and movies that I saw this February and January!
Tumblr media
Castlevania
Not technically an anime in anything other than style, Castlevania is the animated adaptation of the third Castlevania game, following the adventures of Trevor Belmont, the last of his vampire hunting legacy, Sypha, a nomadic magician, and Alucard Tepes, the son of Dracula and his human wife who was killed by the church, and their struggles to take down Dracula before he wipes out all of humanity.
I don’t know much about Castlevania the games, as they really aren’t my genre, but this adaptation was incredible!!  Proof that video game adaptations can and should strive for greater heights!  The dialogue was funny and witty, the characters were interesting and even the villains were endearing, and there was this incredibly crafted atmosphere of both sadness and hope.  Not to mention, the animation was top notch.  Plus, I have to give it credit for finally letting characters say “fuck” realistically.
overall: 9/10
Tumblr media
Futari wa Pretty Cure
The very first, original start of the popular magical girl franchise, Pretty Cure chronicles the tale of Nagisa and Honoka, two very different girls who are brought together when they are chosen to become Pretty Cure, the legendary warriors who will defend light from the darkness!  Together with their mascot friends Mepple and Mipple, and juggling their real lives along with their supernatural battles, Cure Black and Cure White will do whatever it takes to protect the world from evil!
I’ve intended to watch Pretty Cure for literally years now, and no one could agree with where I should start, so I decided to just do what I usually do and watch from the beginning.  I’ve only seen the first season of Pretty Cure and not the Max Heart sequel yet.  Overall, it was about what I expected!  I’m a bit of a sucker for the traditional 2000s magical girl genre, with its repetitive formulas, catchphrases, poses, and the usual five episode plots that every single one of them has.  The designs were super cute and I love how Black and White look so distinct and yet are still clearly a team.  Pollun especially is super adorable!!
Definitely I can see why Pretty Cure became such of a behemoth in the magical girl genre today; it has staying power.  This season was definitely full of a lot of generic magical girl filler, and I will be honest that I started to lose steam for it towards the end, plus the villains were not at all endearing or interesting (like, Poisonny and Regine are both very pretty, and Kiriya was okay, but other than that, no one stands out), but it was still a great and adorable experience that I’m glad I experienced.  I’m not sure when I’ll get to the next series, but I’m sure it won’t be long!

Incredibles 2
I took my sweet time going to see this sequel, but here we are.  In the anticipated sequel to the original Incredibles, the family faces new challenges as Elastigirl is scouted by a CEO to help make superheroes legal again, while Mr. Incredible has to learn the challenges of taking care of the family by himself.
I guess overall it was a good movie and well made for its intended audience.  The animation was pretty good and I usually like their cartoony anatomy designs which are more concerned with a comic-book-esque aesthetic rather than proper anatomy and perfect realism.  Definitely the quality has soared since the first Incredibles.  For me personally though...as much as it was entertaining, in hindsight I don’t think it was really made for me.  There were a lot of plot threads that didn’t seem to get resolved or even addressed.  Bob never fully confronts his jealousy for Helen’s new job, and is never quite confronted about the fact that he hid Jack Jack’s powers from Helen either.  The new superheroes were...honestly not my favorite designs in the world outside of Void, and I felt like their only purpose was to become fight fodder for the final battle, which could have been done with almost any other means.  For as long as the movie was, it felt like a lot of the threads were simply not deeply solved, and only shallowly addressed.  As this is a movie for kids, though, I can look past that; this wasn’t the story for a hugely deep look at things.  It did affect my personal enjoyment, though, but it was still a greatly fun movie to watch.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly
Finally coming for the canon after a couple of decades, DBS Broly brings the legendary super Saiyan Broly into the main cast.  When the young Broly is sent away from Planet Vegeta for being too overwhelmingly powerful, he and his father are stranded on a barren planet for forty years, until they are found by some of Frieza’s soldiers and brought into the Frieza Force.  Frieza immediately pits the super powerful Broly up against our heroes Goku and Vegeta, who must pull out every trick in the book in order to stop him from destroying the planet in his growing rage.
I never ever thought I would say this about anything relating to Broly, but GODDAMN that might have been the best Dragon Ball media in years.  Let’s get this part straight: I’ve disliked Broly since he first appeared in the DB movies.  He was boring, had a ridiculous backstory, and was just there to be a Gary Stu to really push Goku and Vegeta to their limits.  But this movie??? This movie singlehandedly shot Broly to my top ten characters in Dragon Ball.  He is endearing, gentle, a recovering abuse victim with a rage he cannot control, and his strength is more dangerous to himself than to those around him.  In TFS’ review of the movie, they made a great point: the real stakes of his movie aren’t whether Broly is going to destroy the planet; they’re whether Broly himself is going to be okay.  I’m focusing a lot on Broly, but Goku and Vegeta are in top form in his movie as well.  It’s great getting to see Vegeta have a massive fight where he isn’t immediately jobbed for Goku’s sake, and Goku himself is at the top of his game as the fun-loving, battle-crazed but still sympathetic hero that he should always be written as.  Not to mention our new additions to the main cast in Cheelai and Lemo, two of Frieza’s soldiers who found and ended up befriending Broly, who are equally endearing and fun especially in their dynamics with Broly himself.
All in all, this was a fucking excellent movie, and the first DB media that I can imagine wanting to rewatch!

Fireworks
When Nazuna is about to move away, she asks Norimichi to come with her to the fireworks, though she plans instead to run away.  When this doesn’t work according to plan, Norimichi finds that a strangle marble belonging to Nazuna has the power to turn back the clock, giving them a second chance to be together.  However, with each reset, they move further and further away from reality -- can they return to a world where they’re able to spend at least one day with each other?
This is pretty much, in a nutshell, everything I love about anime movies.  It’s beautiful, fluid, full of amazing music, and the emotions hit so close to home.  While the story itself doesn’t explain much, it really doesn’t have to -- the surrealism of the surrounding world sells it more than any exposition would, proving you don’t need to slow down your story to explain something as long as you can make people feel something for it.  Despite having so little to know about both Norimichi and Nazuna, I was still more than sold by their romance. And once again, the surrealism of the animation and the story are something that only anime can pull off.  You just can’t do stories like this live action.
The only thing that really dragged this story down were some of the CGI bits, which I found unnecessary and weird against the otherwise gorgeous backgrounds, but I guess this is where animation is going lately so I might have to get used to it.
