It's me again. This are a few of my favourite empires fics in ao3, this time multichaptered edition. This are all completed, both from s1 and s2, and in no particular order. Fics under the readmore, enjoy!

This was one of the first fics I read about Empires!False, and Im absolutely in love with her characterisation in here. She's tired, stressed, and I love her for this. The writting is so good too, and before I realised I had read the entire thing in one sitting. Also, Lizzie is here, and every paragraph she's in had me either dying in laughter or was just too cute. Just. I love this.

Shifting Perspective, by @scribbling-dragon: "Shapeshifters are shunned, pushed away from the light they helped to diminish. Their God retreated as they were outcast, disappearing into shadows that had only just appeared. Yet, they whisper that He is still present in the crackling of lightning and rumbling of thunder. His luck never seemed to hold firm, he's rather certain that Luck themselves holds a grudge against him at this point. And, as Luck would have it, he's been cursed with the gift, and truly, who could have been more suited to it than the Ruler of Rivendell? (Literally anyone else, is the answer you're looking for.)"

So, this one is I think the most popular in the list, and it's probably you've seen it around if you spend at least half as much time as I do in the ao3 fandom tag, but oh my god. It deserves every good thing. I know this is a long read but it's absolutely worth it. I read it while the last chapters were still coming out, A While ago, and it still lives in my head rent free. I wish it a lot of extra kudos.

This fic somehow manages to be so hilarious and made me have so many feelings at the same time. A chapter would update and I would spend the rest of the week worrying about my poor blorbo. But also, the lore behind it is top noch, there are so many details that made want to point at them and shout my thoughts. I may or may not have gone a little bit crazy over them, but keeping my sanity was never an option.

Tabula rasa, by @capriciouswriter207: "tabula rasa: the mind in its hypothetical primary blank or empty state before receiving outside impressions -- Sausage wakes up in bed. It’s pleasant. He stares at the ceiling. He doesn’t move. He doesn’t think. He doesn’t do anything. He just exists. This one was finished recently, and I was not ready to let it go. If I'm forced to say only one thing about it, is how much I enjoyed the way it was written, specially going back to the beggining after reading the end. This made me feel A Lot Of Feelings, and I really couldn't recomend it enough.

WIPWed: Festering Folder Edition: Beautiful Oblivio(n)

@mintaka14 also asked about "Beautiful Oblivion", which is actually an Oblivio AU and "Beautiful Oblivio(n)", and also part of the No More Sunshine folder. 😂 It was playing with the idea of what if only Ladybug got hit during Oblivio, and Chat had to deal with a Marinette/Ladybug identity reveal who had no idea who he was. It's...probably never going to be finished. Which I guess is good, as I only have a handful of lines in the doc. I feel less bad about it now. 😂

Ironically enough, it was also kinda sparked by the chorus for Eve 6's "Inside Out": "I would swallow my pride / I would choke on the rinds / But the lack thereof would leave me empty inside / I would swallow my doubt / Turn it inside out / Find nothing but faith in nothing / I wanna put my tender heart in a blender / Watch it spin around to a beautiful oblivion / Rendezvous and I'm through with you." Which is...eheheheheh.

So in the Legally Blonde AU, Luka doesn't tell Marinette he used to be a rocker at first. He opened on tour for Jagged, had an EP, but never went much further than that - and Jagged won't tell Marinette, who's just floored that Luka Couffaine is Jagged Stone's son, because it's not his secret to tell. And there's this scene where Marinette stumbles on an old concert clip where Luka's all Glammed Up and singing this song, specifically bc I wanted him to sing the chorus and shout out with the crowd: "...swallow my doubt, turn it inside out - find nothing but FAITH IN NOTHING!!!!!" 😂 (...ngl. "Inside Out" has been one of my Life Anthems/favorite songs since I was like...it came out when I was eight ok. I felt this song in my bones before I even knew what it meant. 😂)

Anyway. This is literally all I have in this doc, from back when I still pretended to write LS. And yet I can promise you, just looking at the setup, it was still going to be one-sided bc Ladynette ain't about that Adrien Agreste life. 🤔

The doc's even in Comic Sans you know I was already struggling with the Chat. 😂

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

“You can’t run forever, Ladybug and Chat Noir!”

It’s always him. It was never supposed to be her.

“Move, you stupid cat!”

“M’lady, no!”

He was never supposed to find out like…this.

“WATCH OUT!”

But the beeping had stopped. The final dot on her earrings had vanished as a pink glow had covered her prone body.

“We can never know, Chat. I’m sorry, but the Guardian has made that clear. We can never know who the other is.”

He had been too slow – too stupid – and now it was all his fault. Was he choking? He felt like he was choking. Air was definitely not getting into his lungs.

Because Marinette Dupain-Cheng was blinking at him with Ladybug’s bluebell eyes, but there was absolutely no recognition in their beautiful depths.

“I…who are you?”

1/6) Seeing as though your blog has become rant central I'm just going to get somethings off my chest if you don't mind. Apologies in advance because I have a feeling it's going to be long. Firstly as upset as I was that Rege was leaving, I feel like I'm actually okay with it even though I was really looking forward to whatever the season 2 storyline would have been for Saphne. Whether Rege has booked something big or not he would have thought the decision through and made the one best for him

2/6) I don't think we'll see much of Phoebe either and I don't think we should get more than a few cameos from her as a bridge between the two seasons otherwise it'll be odd that she's spending so much time away from her husband (and this is coming from someone who's fav is Daphne). Both R&P's careers are taking off and after being the main reason the show is the success it is they should be allowed to capitalize off it whilst hopefully both off them coming back for cameos in the future.

3/6) Second point, we don't know whether some of the cast is upset or not but if they are I agree that they don't really have a right to be and neither do the fans of the other couples. If we look at the build up to S1 there was only the book fans as the fandom and then the people who saw the promos as the initial viewers. The thing that bought in the vast amount of viewers was social media who went crazy over S&D and were thirsting after Rege. Now going into S2 there are close to 100 million

4/6) people familiar with the show and some of them have read the books and want to see the other couples all because R&P did their jobs well. The other actors are going to have the same writers and producers as R&P did but without worrying about bringing in an audience so I don't really see the problem. As for the fans bitching about how this situation affects their actors and book couple, you've all loved telling us how S&D are the weakest and the other books are so much better than theirs,

5/6) well if that's true then all the actors have to do is portray these love stories that are "so superior" and no one will care that S&D are gone right? RIGHT? No seriously I get that these fans are jealous but did they think we'd tune into S2 and be like "oh you were so right they ARE better!" Get a grip! Anyways even if the first month viewership drops it's not that big of a deal, even 50mil is a big success and will get them to S4 at least although I don't think it should go further then

6/6) that. The thing that made S1 special outside of R&P was that it was new and shiny and joyful at a time we all needed it and I don't think they'll be able to recreate that perfect storm again but who knows. I think I've gone on long enough but before I go, I find it hilarious that Phoebe didn't do anything for the SAGS last night despite it being a big Hollywood event and her being the female lead because she was probably like "nah I've got work in the morning but let me know how it goes"

High key concerned by how many people think it might be Ava's season next. I don't think druck has the sauce, i don't think any of the remakes have the sauce, to turn this fandom into a fair and balanced one when they are met with people that look like Ava and can be quite assertive . An Ava season at this junction would be strongly rejected by the masses and seems like an express lane to cancellation. Who do u think will be the next main? Sorry if you've already shared your thoughts on this.

As for Ava, I don’t think her storyline with _huelk has played as big a role in the episodes as Fatou/Kieu My. I’m also a bit unsure about whether _huelk will actually show up on Thursday tbh. I’d feel a bit more sure he’ll show, if Ava told the girls about him and she asked Nora to come along with her.

This fandom will inevitably be a shitstorm when Ava is the main, but I mean, wbk. Let’s just look at the reactions to any Sana season, not just from fandom, but casual viewers and even people who don’t know anything about these shows, but have a lot to say about a show choosing to feature characters like the Sanas.

But I also don’t think that should be reason not to do it. Like, we can’t just keep these characters as sidekicks until a time in the future where people won’t complain about them being main, or we’ll be waiting forever lol.

I know this is the dumbest example ever, but ever since SPN ended, I’ve been thinking about how different the TV landscape was 5/10/15 years ago.

(Some rambling about 00s TV shows no one cares about)

When SPN premiered in 2005, the idea that any of the male leads would say ILU to another dude was absolutely unthinkable. A fan gave Dean’s actor an essay about his character being bi at a con (sidenote: cons should probably be abolished) and he wrote “?? No” on it and gave it back. In 2020 Castiel told Dean he loved him, and Dean’s actor was, like, swapping reaction videos to that moment with Castiel’s actor.

Likewise, when Glee premiered in 2009, the show immediately sidelined Mercedes for Rachel, and constantly made jokes about how Mercedes would never be lead because she was lazy, unprincipled, didn’t want it enough, etc. In the finale episode, which aired in 2015, the show acknowledged that Schue (and by extension the show/network) never saw Mercedes as the lead because of the way she looked (both misogynoir and fatphobia).

And I could give sooo many examples of Kurt storylines that were obviously rewritten to pacify homophobic viewers. For instance, in one s1 episode Kurt comes a little too strongly on Finn (but I should note everyone on that show came a little too strongly on their crushes, it was pretty much your usual teen show with toxic examples of human interaction). This angered a man to such a point that he approached the showrunners at Comic Con and demanded that Kurt apologize for being a creep. So in s2, even Kurt’s own dad calls him out on being a creep towards Finn, and he’s made to back off from a duet with a straight dude character because everyone makes him feel he was a creep for even thinking about it.

Later on, Kurt switches schools for a while because he’s being targeted by a bully and he and Blaine talk about how no one does anything about homophobic bullying because people seem to feel that if you’re gay, then you’re just going to suffer. This line reminds me so much of how showrunners have approached Sana seasons. All the characters sort of act like, well, the Sanas have dared to be hijabi and racialized, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ there ain’t much the other characters can do about that suffering ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The point I’m trying to make is that, yes, Castiel dying right after confessing he loves Dean and Dean’s feelings being up for interpretation is total bullshit when you can watch 73589 Netflix shows and a handful of Isak seasons with canonical representation, same gender affection, sex scenes, etc. but it is also something no show would’ve done when SPN first premiered in 2005. (When queer rep was a female character showing up in town during sweeps week to share a kiss with one of the female leads and then disappear to never be talked about again.) It was only possible because SPN lasted into 2020 when that scene is tame compared to what audiences are used to seeing in other (some more niche) shows. It was bullshit that Glee painted Mercedes as lazy to justify Rachel getting all the solos, but at least they lasted long enough that they could say, “yeah that happened for racist reasons.” It was bullshit that Kurt could only get face time if he was being tortured or crying, because homophobic audiences couldn’t take a, to use your word, “assertive” gay character who behaved like all the other Glee characters with crushes. But if it hadn’t been for Kurt and other similarly weeping gays, who’s to say we’d have had Isak (who was created in response to Norwegians teens watching American teen shows, remember!), Cris, Matteo, etc. etc.

Are audiences going to be racist and fatphobic and misogynistic in response to Ava’s season? Yep! But an Ava season would do something Glee never allowed Mercedes to do, and it’s to be the star of the show. (And ngl, “it’s yo girl Mercedes” was such a recurring phrase on Glee that I’ve wondered whether Ava’s ig name is a lowkey inspired by it.) Without Kurt there wouldn’t be an Isak, and without Mercedes there wouldn’t be an Ava. So an Ava season needs to happen regardless of fandom being ready for it.

Hey Bethany, I wanted to ask what tv shows do you love? The ones you've genuinely enjoyed or are currently enjoying, the more the merrier PS you're awesome and everytime you're my dashboard it's something I enjoy or an important political subject, keep it up

Oh, gosh, well, first of all, thank you for the kind words! :) And I’m actually not currently watching much of anything, and haven’t been for the past few weeks, since we’ve been in the middle of what feels like the slowest, longest moving-house process ever. :P (Details about the move under the cut for those of you who are interested.) But here’s an incomplete list of TV shows I love, all of which have their flaws but I enjoyed anyway, in no particular order:

Leverage - It is the show of my heart and I recommend it to literally everyone who asks for a good show to watch. My mom and dad love it. My kids love it. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who watched Leverage and didn’t love it. WATCH LEVERAGE.

Elementary - I’ve been a Sherlock Holmes fan my whole life thanks to my mom, and this adaptation set in modern-day New York starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu is...also the show of my heart. I’ve rewatched the entire series at least six times now and I’m certain I’ll rewatch it again in future.

Stargate SG-1

Community - IF YOU HAVE FRIENDS YOU HAVE FAMILY.

Parks and Rec

Brooklyn Nine Nine - Yes, it’s cop propaganda. But it’s also a show I’ve enjoyed a lot, truthfully.

The Good Place

Superstore - I’m not caught up on this show, but it’s excellent.

Never Have I Ever - DELIGHTFUL.

Derry Girls - The dumbass teenagers on this show look and act like actual dumbass teenagers, and it’s set in the mid-90s which is when I was a teenager so to me it’s extra entertaining.

The Expanse - SUCH GOOD SCI-FI.

Farscape - ALSO VERY GOOD SCI-FI. (See my WATCH FARSCAPE tag.)

Good Omens

Selfie - I cannot stress enough how very well worth your time and heartbreak it will be for you to watch the one season of this show that exists. (The heartbreak is because there’s only one season, the show itself is hilarious and smart and hopeful).

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries - This modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is technically a YouTube series, not a TV show, but it’s one I very much enjoy.

Dead to Me - I haven’t finished S2 yet but am enjoying it a lot.

The Great - is weird and wonderful. Elle Fanning deserves awards and Nicholas Hoult somehow makes me loathe him and love him at the same time.

Upload - An interesting premise, pretty smartly executed. We watched and enjoyed it! If there’s a S2, we’ll watch and probably enjoy that too.

Lucifer - I love the characters on this show a lot. The plots are...uneven? But I do love the characters and the relationships, and it’s generally enough to make up for how I feel about the plots. (This show is based on the Neil Gaiman comics.)

One Day at a Time (I’ve only watched the first three seasons, the ones on Netflix, because I wasn’t able to access PopTV overseas. I’ve heard that S4 has been underwhelming so far, which is a bummer, because the first three were AMAZING.)

Jessica Jones - S1 was riveting and fantastic. (S2 was...weird. I don’t think we even watched S3; S2 left kind of a bad taste in our mouths.)

Chuck - especially the first two seasons, I loved. I haven’t rewatched this one in years, so I don’t know how it’s held up.

Veronica Mars - the first season is amazing. The second and third seasons are pretty damn good. The movie felt like a gift to the fandom. The books are entertaining. I’ve never watched season four so I’m pretending it doesn’t exist. The fanfic is truly excellent.

Castle - The first three seasons are really great. It sort of went downhill from there. I don’t think I even watched the last season.

Okay, that’s all I can think of at the moment and this list is long enough so I’m gonna end it there. I’ve definitely forgotten some shows but eh, that’s okay. I hope you found this list helpful, anonymous friend!

In early June, movers came to our house on base in Germany and packed up 98% of our stuff and hauled it away, and then we basically camped in our mostly empty house on not-very-comfortable base-owned loaner furniture and lived out of suitcases for four weeks. Then movers came to take the rest of our stuff---a few clothes, bedding, towels, dishes and cooking implements we’d kept behind---and hauled it away too.

That night we stayed at a hotel, and the next morning we got on a plane and few to Frankfurt and then to DC. Then we rented a minivan and drove the rest of the way, arriving, 19 1/2 hours after we left the hotel in Stuttgart, at a hotel near where we’ll be living for the next couple of years. Almost three weeks, some paperwork snafus, and two room changes later, we are STILL living in that hotel even though we actually had signed a lease on a house before we left Germany. So we’re going on seven weeks of being in a kind of moving limbo, and that’s not even taking into consideration the fact that we’re moving internationally during a pandemic, from a country that basically had things under control to a country where our national leaders are telling us that we’re all imagining the dumpster fire, and wouldn’t we like to send our kids back to school in the fall, where teachers are equipped with watering cans?

BUT anyway, we’re back in the States, for better or worse, and there are some good things and some frustrating things and we’ll deal with it all as best we can. And then we’ll watch some TV and cope through fiction. :)

favourite episode: Mayday, if you know then you know :) BUT The Last Ceremony has stuck in my head ever since I first watched it. It was an emotional rollercoaster, I went from “Normal episode then” to numb to happy to sad all in the space of half an hour :) So....

saddest death: I’ve not actually been sad at any deaths so far but I suppose the premise of Eden’s death is sad

favourite season: Season 2, I think!

least favourite season: Season 3, not because it’s bad, I mean my favourite episode is from that season but I think that’s when the writers were like “okay we need to speak this up now”

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: Nick :))))

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: UMMMMMMM probably Jonathan, not because he’s a bad character I just don’t really care for him I guess! Hopper needs better writing, too

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Max & Lucas, Hopper & Joyce

my ultimate favourite character™: Either Steve, Eleven, Will or Max. Max gets a mention because I remember being surprised at the fact I actually liked her in S2

prettiest character: Karen Wheeler or Nancy Wheeler!

my most hated character: Most hated is probably Billy :)))

my OTP: Joyce & Bob and maybe Mike & Eleven, I like them together and I guess their aging shows how relationships can change overtime!

my NOTP: Karen & Billy :)

favourite episode: I can’t really remember MANY episodes but I LOVED The Sauna Test in S3 despite my criticisms on the seasons :) And I also loved the last bunch of Seasons 1 & 2, I need to rewatch this show SO badly

saddest death: Bob :( And S1 Eleven was devastating, too

favourite season: Season 1! The show needs to go back to its roots and just aim at being fun

least favourite season: Season 3 just because I can remember the stupid Dustin & Suzie sing-a-long scene, it was more annoying than funny and I just wanted it to get back to the action scene

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I don’t think the cast is big enough for me to hate anybody that people love to be honest!

my ultimate favourite character™: Charlie Pace, Sun-Hwa Kwon, Juliet Burke, Benjamin Linus, probably any four of those! Also ADORE Hurley, Claire & Desmond

prettiest character: Kate Austen!

my most hated character: Jack Shephard :) Honestly I hate this dick head more than anything, his prominence ALMOST made me turn off :) I just hate him with a passion :) When I’m sat there rooting for BEN over Jack then I must have some serious issues with Jack :) He had some really good moments but overall he was such an obnoxious irritant of a character

my OTP: Charlie & Claire <33333 and Rose & Bernard!

my NOTP: Shannon & Sayid, fucking YUCK :)

favourite episode: The Greatest Hits, OR Through The Looking Glass Part 3 purely for its cliffhanger! The Constant and Flashes Before Your Eyes aswell :))

saddest death: Jin & Sun and Charlie :)

favourite season: Season 1 in my rewatches isn’t as good to be honest BUT I do love Season 1 a lot :) I may have to say Season 3 though

least favourite season: Season 5! I don’t hate it but I just was least interested in it than the others
