Undertale analysis: Chara was a bad person but not because they were an "evil serial killer child" like the fandom portrays.

TW: mentions of mental illness, self harm, and suicide. SPOILER FOR UNDERTALE. yes this game is 8 years old and scarily popular, but its still worth playing! its 10 bucks on steam! get it! Post also contains stupid edits I made to ENHANCE your experience by at least 50% guaranteed or your money back (post cost $0)

first: some backstory. I played Undertale way back in like, 2016 when the game was still fresh yet gaining popularity quickly. The fandom soon after became criminally insane and went on a moral panic where people were harassed for "playing the game wrong". I remember stories of youtubers cancelling Undertale let's plays because they would kill a character and people would get upset. other than AUs, the biggest thing that stuck out to me was the strange obsession with claiming Chara is an evil demon child who is the root of all evil and eats puppies and enjoys drinking the blood of the innocent. and then counter-culture made it so that chara is actually innocent and that the PLAYER is the horrible evil monster eating puppies etc etc.

two extremes that i half-agree with, but mostly disagree with. There was an INSANE black and white mentality that flooded the Undertale space with no breathing room for mistakes. nowadays people have matured and the fandom calmed down, so now would be a great time to explain why i think Chara is a more complex character than people give them credit for. please don't hurt me.

1- Chara very much had mental health issues.

and not in the horror movie way where they were a caraaazay evil serial murderer

a huge misconception is that people assumed the garden tools in toriel's house being dulled was somehow "proof" that Chara was an evil serial murder or something.

though... I think people also forget Chara heavily hinted at struggling with serious depression and misanthropic tendencies.

Chara climbed the mountain to end their own life. the reason the garden tools were dulled wasn't because the Dreemurs were trying to protect other people from Chara, they were trying to protect Chara from themself. it baffles me how a lot of people didn't catch onto that. It could be that we were young teens and didn't know better... but i digress! "but kat? how is Chara a bad person ? are you saying people with depression are-" get that objectively wrong idea out of your head. Having a mental illness does not make you a bad person. If you struggle with suicidal thoughts please get help from loved ones and don't EVER think you are a bad person for struggling. no. chara is a bad person because...

2- Chara was a bitter misanthrope that didn't care about anyone else or their feelings.

there are several lines of dialogue that point to the fact Chara did not like humans. There is a high probability that Chara had a hard home life before falling to the underground and that is possibly why Chara was the way they were. I am not going to send you a million screenshots as to every single bit of evidence of this, I am not made of time and jpegs. (besides i spent the entire budget on photoshop edits) I am however, going to send you the most damning evidence on my side: the true lab tapes. In the pacifist run, you can visit the true lab and find Asgore and Toriel's old home videos. The tapes basically showcase Chara's plan to Asriel where they were to eat the butterscotch flowers, and then Asriel will absorb their soul when they died.

you can watch this youtube video on all of the true lab tapes. to recap the story, Chara died, Asriel absorbed the soul, took Chara's body to the human village and then the humans thought Asriel killed Chara. Asriel refused to fight, walked back to their home and died in the flowerbed. Later on if you talk to Asriel, He mentions he wasn't the one who went to the human village, but it was Chara that was controlling him. He refused to hurt the humans and fight back and essentially they were both taken down. so here are my thoughts (please remember this is my interpretation you are OK to disagree with me)

-Chara probably just used the freedom of the monsters as an excuse to off themselves, Then put that emotional responsibility on Asriel. -They then USED Asriel's body to try and enact revenge on the humans in their death as some kind of messed up murder-suicide but in the wrong order -This ends up Killing Asriel, then he later became a bitter misanthropic husk after being reincarnated by Flowey. Possibly due to the trauma. -This ends up putting the ENTIRE underground in a depressed state with no hope and causing a massive war with the humans -their adopted parents are now divorced due to this tragedy and both Toriel and Asgore started to have conflicting issues on the topic of humans -Asgore basically trapping everyone with him in his own grief because he didn't want to actually face what happened and played the long game collecting souls one by one. -Toriel struggling to move on and essentially trying to mother any human that falls down without facing her demons. -Litterally all of undertale happened. essentially Chara was not a bad person because they were a child version of Jason Voorhees Chara was a bad person because they manipulated their family into having emotional responsibility for their self-inflicted death and hatred of humanity. They made their issues everyone else's problem and didn't consider how their horrible actions would affect others. and in a way, that is one of the morals of Undertale If you don't care about others and how your actions will affect others, then you would be making the world a shitty place in the end. Lets get back to that thing I said earlier about fans harassing other players for little mistakes. killed Toriel on your first play through ? congratulations! you are a horrible irredeemable person who deserves to get death threats ! /s God forbid we have nuance and acknowledge that most players at this point feel BAD about what happened since this is their first play through! And that they CARE about what they did to their new friend! These kind of people ignore the fact that the issue with the genocide run wasn't just the deaths, but that the player didn't consider how the monsters felt after you just ripped away their happy ending. which is the mentality that both Chara and Flowey had.

here is a video i recommend. to quote this video about the sans fight: "They call out the player not for acting immorally but for acting with no moral guidance whatsoever. Flipping back and forth between good and evil for no real reason except that they want to see what happens. In the boss’s own words, committing genocide “because you think you can, and because you can, you have to.” " Chara offed themself and made Asriel emotionally responsible for Chara's fucked up revenge fantasy without considering others feelings The player restarted the timeline (more than likely the good ending) to kill everyone all for the reason of curiosity without considering others feelings. the reason why Chara goes after you at the end of the genocide run is because you basically VALIDATED the deep dark desires of a mentally damaged person and made them watch their loved ones get ritualistically murdered. meanwhile in the pacifist run (with no history of the genocide path on your file), you simply let Chara remain as they were when they passed away. You didn't validate their dark mentally unstable desires, you simply shown Chara that the world isn't a horrible place and that actually caring about other people leads to a better life. If you HAVE played genocide before the pacifist ending, then the lesson does not sit because you still basically led them down a dark path in the end. By caring about how others feel and the impact you leave on people, you are helping retain hope for a better future for everyone, and that is one of the many reasons why i love Undertale.

What got you into rainworld?

It's been 2020, middle of autumn, i tired from playing same 3 games on repeat (hollow knight, sundered and undertale (? i'm not sure)) and looked in my steam library, in search for something i haven't played. I had i think 3 games i bought and never played, and Rain World was one of them. I had no fucking clue what is this game, i didn't even remember how i got it (i got it same year spring with 80% off, as my purchase history says). So i downloaded it and jumped right into, without watching any trailers or rewievs.

It was... something. I didn't expect anything, but i was surprised anyway. I had no idea you could pick different character, i didn't know you supposed to play as white slugcat, so i started as Monk.

First thing that surprised me is how HEAVY slugcat felt. Compare to Hollow Kinght where you can jump 10 times your height... yeahh. And second thing - controls, which i changed immediately, because i ain't playing on arrows! ALSO at the beginning i had a thought for a moment that maybe i'll get some upgrades, but even then i felt like it's not gonna happen

And after that i lost track of time. And when i woke up, it was 5 am and i was in shoreline. Then i was stuck in the first room of subterranean with centipedes killing me all the fucking time and i thought that i can't go back through the gates lol

I also remember miros birds breaking my overseer in meme crypts and how i thought that it was gone forever

Many people have recently been discussing the KOSA law that is most likely going into effect in 2 days. If it does pass, I will no longer be active here or on main. I just want to say that this community is the safest I've felt in a long time, and I made so many amazing friends that I may never see again after Sunday. I've been able to be myself with very little fear, and I don't think I'd get the same safety in most other communities.

Rant below (CW: Slight mentions of suicide, skip to the other red text to avoid it)

I remember when I made my first real friend online back in October 2020. I was playing Human Fall Flat on a random server and I met 2 people, Cyan and Ram (not real nicknames). All 3 of us were big fans of Undertale at the time and we friended each other on Steam. One thing lead to another and I was in a large friend group. I also met someone named Spice (also not real nickname) who became my best friend for 2 and a half years. I'm no longer in contact with anyone in that friend group but that group basically saved my life. While I knew them I was going through a lot and I nearly attempted multiple times, but they were what saved me.

While the internet isn't perfect, and it did cause some of my trauma, it did so much for me and without it I would most likely be a carbon copy of my mom. I wouldn't know anything about myself and this might sound like an exaggeration, but there's a chance I would be dead. Social media helped me discover my interests, my identity, and pretty much everything about me, and I've learned so much the 7 years I've had access to the internet.

End of longish rant and TW

If KOSA really does pass, I will lose a lot of what has made me myself, I'll lose contact with a lot of my friends, and I don't know if I'll be prepared for it. However, this does not mean I won't stop spreading awareness. I'll fight until the very last second.

This really may be a forever or at least temporary goodbye, so I just want anyone I'm strictly friends with online to know I appreciate them so much. I'll be replaying every memory in my head for as my brain allows me to hold onto them. Every time I made my friends laugh, every fake argument, every game of Putt Party, every time my art was rudely eaten, and all the amazing experiences I had along the way.

Are you talking about Forgotten Memory? If yes, perhaps I will answer your question...I came up with the very idea of the game when I was still creating a fan game based on Undertale (which I canceled due to the loss of interest in this game and the fandom..It is somewhat similar to Yume nikki, Persona, OneShot and To the Moon.

The game was originally called "Fragile Memory".The game itself only had four characters (my ocs) from different fandoms (Francois 🇫🇷, Melody 🐱, Blackberry 🐻 and Christina).The goal of the game was simple: You as a player (that is, a friend) must help them remember something good but at the same time you must talk to them and do not ignore them.

However, I had to change my game a little… I kept only Christina and the goal of the game.

Speaking of Christina… if you think that I created a fan game based on my AU, then no..Yeah, I took my tdi oc of my game, however, I slightly changed her design plus her backstory.I didn’t want to create a fan game based on tdi series (because I didn’t want Fresh TV to scold me for taking their characters :/)

ok so underplayer is like my personal favourite mainly because it was actully the first undertale au i found out about! i was about 10 and my littlw brother (who i shared a steam account with) got undertale, so i played it, read all of the wiki, and got hooked on the game (i had no idea of any AUs at this point so i was rather confused about some things). at the timw i didnt have tumblr or devaintart, so i found comic dubs to watch instead of finding the comics myself. underplayer was the first AU i watched, and i absolutely loved it, watched the dub over and over. then i forgot about undertale foe a couple months until DR chapter 2 came out and i remembered underplayer, and decided to read the AU wiki articles abour it. this was a bad idea because i ultimatley fell into a rabbithole of undertale aus and usinf FANDOM wikis a ton.

tldr i like it because it was the first undertale au i experienced, and it had just the right amount of compuuter code shit and self insertness for my brain to latch onto it

What are your most disappointing video games recently?

Nothing too serious recently due to my game shopping habits. Even if a game did end up failing for me, it's often something with low stakes and low expectations. I have a decently high diet of small, cheap indie games. It's a nice sphere to explore.

Here is where there would be a paragraph or two about games being $70 (kinda scary) that would seem in poor taste to include after establishing that I play Cheap Games. It's not about the money! My cheapness is a different thing.

I'm struggling to recall instances that I know happened recently, but I was saddened to find out in real time that Crystal Story: Awakening just did not grab me and sell me on Dawn of Dusk (the first mainline game it serves as an introduction to). It felt strange to boot up the Dawn of Dusk demo afterwards and see it have more meat on its bones. I guess that's why Awakening doesn't have a Steam release?

Sad (but not too sad, remember that the stakes are low), because I've had nice amount of recent examples of RPGs with some amount of puzzles/adjacent like Astromeda (Undertale-like), Swordbird Song (did you know it's free), and Fortune-499 (quite liked that one for reasons I can't quite place) that I've been pleased by. 2024, year of the RPGs I'm only just now getting to! Just maybe not that one. (Dawn of Dusk released in January of this year anyway.)

There's likely a bunch of little disappointments like examples from Next Fest where you discover that the game that looked nice does not feel good to play.

Howdy! I got a a gift card for the nintendo switch for christmas but don't know what to use it on. Would you recommend any games? I know you play a variety.

Oh! Sure thing! I'm flattered to even be considered for something like that lol

Considering I finished playing it only minutes ago, the first thing that comes to mind is the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which probably needs no introduction, but just in case: they're part visual novel, part puzzle/logic games where you play as a defense lawyer solving elaborate murder mysteries. Very funny, feels like watching a goofy anime except you get to solve the mysteries yourself.

Next, here's some great indie titles I personally have downloaded on my Switch:

Undertale (& Deltarune chapters 1+2): undeniable masterpieces. If you haven't already played them you really should. They're short, heartfelt RPGs with memorable characters, challenging but fun bullet hell-style combat, and stories so good they've basically had an effect on the entire video game medium. I love them from the bottom of my heart.

Hades: another masterpiece you've surely already heard of, but worth recommending anyway. It's a punishingly hard roguelike where you repeatedly try to battle your way out of the underworld, but the story and characters--all drawn from Greek mythology--are exquisitely crafted and incredibly rewarding to uncover. (I haven't technically played this one myself but I've watched my partner put hundreds of hours into it--plus there's a sequel on the horizon!)

Ori and the Blind Forest (and sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps): incredibly fun, fast-paced, and beautifully animated Metroidvania where you play as an agile little light spirit trying to save your forest home. Story's very dialogue-light but epic and emotional; you may cry.

Crypt of the Necrodancer: unbelievably fun rhythm-based dungeon crawler where you fight your way through monsters and undead by moving and attacking to the beat. The story is charming, too, but the gameplay and music alone make this one a must-try. (Note: if you prefer, there's a Zelda spinoff called Cadance of Hyrule that's a crossover with this game. Same type of gameplay, but a little more forgiving, and also Zelda flavored. :3)

CrossCode: wildly underrated action RPG about a girl who wakes up mute and amnesiac inside an MMO world and has to uncover its secrets with the power of friendship and punching things with chakrams. I love these characters so hecking much and the combat in this game is really difficult but also incredibly satisfying to master. Also features some great puzzles and tricky platforming.

Petal Crash: a charming little arcade puzzler where you move colorful blocks to make chains and earn points/clear the board. There's a story mode where you can play through as different characters, and they're all super cute and funny. (iirc, the dialogue is all written by the creator of the webcomic Paranatural, and it shows!)

Some other random indie titles that come to mind:

LIMBO: a short, atmospheric horror platformer with some memorably dark, unsettling moments and pretty satisfying puzzles for such a short game. I first played this back in high school and for some reason it still sticks with me after all these years. It's also like $2 in the eShop right now, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I believe the game Inside is from the same studio, and I remember enjoying watching a playthrough of it years ago, but I haven't played that one myself.)

Stardew Valley: I've never played this one on console, but I currently have 225 hours logged for it on Steam lol. It's a farm sim, but it also has a pretty robust cast of townsfolk who are really fun to get to know, and plenty of other things to occupy your time as well. Mining, dungeon delving, artifact collecting, and a nice little story about sticking it to the evil corporate overlords and bringing your community together.

Terraria: ditto to Stardew Valley, also with about 200 hours in my Steam account. This one is a 2D adventure platformer with procedurally generated worlds that you explore for resources that you can build or craft into whatever you like: combat gear, homes for your NPC neighbors, forbidden magicks to summon alien horrors--you name it! Can be played kind of sandboxy like a 2D Minecraft, or there is a long series of challenging and interesting bosses to encounter if you feel like uncovering secrets!

Untitled Goose Game: short puzzle game where you play as a goose gently terrorizing a suburban neighborhood. You've seen the memes. It was popular for a reason though--very charming and fun!

Castle Crashers: a classic beat-em-up with humor as cartoony as its visual style. Play as colorful knights on a quest to retrieve four princesses from an evil necromancer. Leans a tad much on toilet humor and the combat can be a little repetitive, but overall very silly and slapstick and super fun to play with friends.

Wingspan: this one's a little out of left field but I just remembered this is on Switch! I have the physical board game this is based on, and I highly recommend that, so I imagine the digital version is worth a look, too. It's a card-based strategy game where you collect bird species to compete for the best sanctuary. Once you get the hang of it, you can play a whole game in 30-45 minutes. Also, the art's gorgeous and the developers are based in my home state!

Aaaand some other misc classics worth mentioning:

Katamari Damacy: roll a sticky ball around and pick up objects. Then pick up bigger objects. Bigger! BIGGER!

Portal & Portal 2: solve puzzles with portable wormholes and survive the attentions of a mad AI. Excellent puzzles and legendary characters and humor.

most old Final Fantasy titles are available for relatively cheap, including 7, 8, and 9! I'm a fan of all of them. :}

Okami: adding this one last minute because I didn't realize it had a Switch port!! INCREDIBLE action rpg where you play as a sun goddess in the form of a wolf, fighting epic monster battles and restoring peace to ancient Japan. Gorgeous, fun, iconic.

Uh, and that's all I can think of for now! I tried to include some lesser-known stuff as well as some classic gems, so hopefully something catches your eye! I'm a little surprised the list is so short, but when it comes down to it I'm actually pretty Basic when it comes to my taste in video games lol--largely Pokemon and Zelda outside of this list tbh.

Part 3

7th grade (2018-2019)

7th grade was the best. It probably wasn't that good, and I remember it with rose-tinted glasses, but I remember actually being happy and actually liking school. insane, I know. I had a really tight-knit friend group. I had a best friend who best friended me back. I loved math and I was good at it too (what a plot twist!). I worked out and ate healthy (well kinda, it was healthy compared to now). I had to get glasses because I messed up my eyesight just the summer before by playing so many video games and writing a lot, but I didn't mind. I still kept journals. My ramblings were still in Turkish but now sandwiched between lists of new English words I came across on the internet every day. I started using a pen some of the time instead of a pencil to write (That might seem like a really unnecessary detail, but over time I came to hate the feel of pencil on paper). My notebooks are much bigger now.

Oh, okay, I remember really wanting a Nintendo 3DS (handheld gaming console) to play Ocarina of Time (it's exclusive to the 3DS; well, thats the remaster version; the original is a N64 game). Now you don't have to own a 3DS to play Ocarina of Time; actually, just use an emulator. Tell that to my 7th grade self. I actually wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch and play Breath of the Wild, but that was too expensive in my mind, so I decided to go for a 3DS to satiate my longing. Gosh, I made a cardboard version of a 2DS, and I made it at school during the art lesson.

The thing is, Nintendo consoles really aren't popular in Turkey. PlayStation is, Xbox is, but Nintendo? Nope. That made things harder for me. First of all, there is no regional pricing; they sell the games dollarized, and the Turkish lira was losing its value against the dollar even back then. Well, to be honest, Playstation doesn't have regional pricing either, but since Playstation is widespread in Turkey, you can buy games secondhand for cheaper, which is not the case for Nintendo at all! Anyway, my mom had a friend living in the United States, so he bought one for me and sent it with international cargo. I had the intention to pay, so I picked one of the older models so it would be cheaper, but then he just gifted it to me. Not gonna lie, I wished I picked a better model.

Oh, remember how I mentioned that I wanted to make a game too? Well, during 7th grade, I designed some characters! It was very Hollow Knight and Undertale influenced. I want to make a platformer with 2D animation like Hollow Knight, but I also want it to be story-driven with fleshed-out characters like Undertale. It would be a weird combination. I haven't played that many different types of games yet, so I didn't know that there was a much better format for the game I was envisioning. I am sure I knew of visual novels back then, but I didn’t know of their potential yet.

I made quite a few designs, but I was only satisfied with three of them. I'm not going to show any of my designs here, but maybe one day.

Anyway, aside from me picking up a 2DS in 7th grade, the summer was uneventful. No wait, I also bought a drawing tablet for my laptop to make animations because I like animation!

Again this is a really cheap and small one, it’s kinda hard to draw on it.  I recently formatted my PC, so most of the animation is gone now. (ignore my dusty keyboard)

Overall the 7th grade’s summer wasn’t that bad; I got new games to play on Steam too, but it definitely wasn't a blast like the last summer. A bit disappointing, to be honest. and the summer eventually ended.

Reasons why Papyrus could be the Knight

-Papyrus is the only main character from Undertale that we haven't had any interactions with. Even if we can only talk a little bit with Mettaton we can at least talk to him, with Papyrus we don't even get that and we might not be able to see him in a while

-His absence is acknowledged in the steam page of deltarune in a super vague way

[I.D. : "Meet new and endearing main characters, as well as familiar faces like Toriel, Sans, as more. Huh? Papyrus? No, he's busy. Sorry"]

-Both Sans and Papyrus are most likely related to Gaster, who is an extremely important character in Deltarune. Everyone tends to only focus on Sans's connection to Gaster but we can't ignore the fact that Papyrus is just as important in his backstory as Sans. The thing is we know nothing about them in Undertale, we know more about Sans and Gaster, so the majority of people don't really think about Papyrus when it comes to stuff related to Gaster. Wouldn't it make sense if we got to know more about Papyrus's connection to Gaster in this game?

-Sans and Papyrus in Deltarune are probably the same ones from Undertale. Sans remembers this but to our knowledge Papyrus probably doesn't, and Papyrus is known to be "forgettable". A major event could have happened in his life that made him forget things

-Papyrus has a really strong obsession with being a royal guard, sure, it's because he wants to be popular, but why would he think that? Undyne isn't popular, she says so herself, she is a heroine but she isn't popular or has friends only because she's a royal guard, neither do any of the other members. Yet he still believes this very strongly, and even wears a royal guard costume all the time. Maybe in another place... he used to wear something similar, a knight armor you could say. Maybe he really wants to be like that again but he doesn't remember why

-Being The Knight doesn't necessarily mean being a bad guy, we barely know anything about this mysterious character. Even if the role of The Knight was antagonistic, there is a chance that Papyrus wouldn't fully realize or admit that he was doing something wrong (maybe he isn’t even doing anything wrong at all!), NOT because he's dumb or naive because he isn't, but his heart could be in the right place while someone else could have other intentions (not necessarily evil either, but maybe with their own intentions). Why do I think this? Because something similar to that already happened in Undertale with Papyrus and Flowey

-Papyrus loves puzzles, but I doubt there aren't any in the outside world of deltarune. It feels like he would fit in better in a Dark World

-A common pattern that I have seen in Deltarune is a strong theme of loneliness (I made a whole post about this but I can't find it lol I'm sorry). Kris is the lonely weird kid of town, Susie isolated herself and pushed everyone away, Ralsei has been alone all of his life, Lancer used to be disliked by mostly everyone until he met Susie, Noelle is a shy and insecure girl that misses her sister a lot which makes everything feel scarier to her, Berdly is terrified of being on his own without Noelle, Darkners in general feel abandoned, Dess is lost and all alone, the main undertale characters seem a bit less happy than in undertale because the majority of them aren't friends with each other and their friendships are what helps them grow in undertale, Jevil was locked away from everyone else, Spamton lost his friends and ended up all alone, ... yeah, do you see the pattern? Now, which Undertale character would you say fits this theme the most? Could it be the skeleton that so desperately wants friends? It could be, especially now since all he does is stay home and not talk to anyone else

-Paraphrasing Papyrus in Undertale, 'maybe all you need to make friends is give them puzzles and then battle them'. He could be trying to help others and also help himself make some friends with this whole thing about being the Knight

-Bonetrousle is Papyrus's theme, it's also the theme that plays in many trailers, it used to be the main battle theme for Deltarune. Papyrus's room is absent of music in Undertale. Papyrus's theme song is just full of mystery

-Papyrus only uses majuscules when he speaks, just like Spamton and Jevil, I don't think anyone else does this. Papyrus doesn't start a sentence with an asterisk either unlike everyone else... that's so strange and there is no explanation for it

-We barely know anything about Papyrus, he's incredibly mysterious. If another character was this mysterious everyone would think they could be The Knight, but Papyrus is constantly seen as just a funny character and nothing else so many people don't even consider him as a possible Knight, even if he doesn't end up being the Knight he needs to be brought up way more as a possible candidate

-Papyrus is my favorite character and I want him to be important in Deltarune, that's all

If anyone wants to add more reasons, go ahead! This is all I could think of right now

So y’all know the anti harem undertale fics, I had an idea for one.

So MC moves in blah blah the girlfriend is evil blah blah the guys are mean blah bal you know the story, but that’s not where it starts, the MC wakes up in their bed before they move, one of the skeletons killed them for some reason and they were sent back in time with all their memories. MC finds a different place to stay temporarily. They go to college and talk to mutt they bond over remembering the feeling of dying. They come up with a plan to destroy Girlfriend. Mutt invites mc to live with them. When girlfriend says that they knew mc when they were kids the boys who remember the resets star to realize that girlfriend is saying different things and realize that she is lying. MC records girlfriends interactions with them and shares them to prove what they say about girlfriend. Mc and the killer work out their relationship.

Scenes that I think would be cool

-before moving back in mutt invites MC to a Halloween party, MC dresses up in like how they died. (A bone attack to through the chest) MC dresses in a nice outfit and uses special affects makeup to add the wound. MC pretends not to know what the boys are talking about when they ask about it. MC just says that they wanted to try this type of makeup (gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss)

-when MC talks to the boys who remember about remembering what happened they say something like “I know you felt it before, the cold consuming you, the satisfaction of your attacker, the feeling of becoming nothing, and then the horrific joy of waking up” or something cool like that

- mutt checks MC’s soul, in the BM (before murder) times it was manly green with some blue, now it’s a bright yellow with red and purple cracks ( trama can change a souls traits)

MC basically doesn’t take anyones shit anymore they are still kind but will do anything to get revenge on girlfriend for manipulating the boys into killing them. MC knows and understands how manipulation works and understands that the boys were trying to protect the one they love they still hold a grudge but still wants to get them away from girlfriend

I have been daydreaming about this and how angsty this would be

i’m currently sick in bed with what seems to be tonsillitis, so i went through my drafts and i’m not really satisfied with what i have in there so i thought i’d make like a franken-post where i just run a few things by you if you want.

firstly, i was going to rank the TiT bossfights for shits n’ gigs but then got way too frustrated writing that because all of them are equally bad except the El Jefe one. i think they really put their best effort into that and it shows. it’s a really good bossfight with several stages, there’s platforming involved and no over-usage of the costume. it gets progressively more difficult and the dialogue is pretty decent. so props to S*nzaru for not delivering 100% steaming pile of horseshit. i was also going to include the Carmelita vs Moat Monster bossfight into that list because, although it’s not as good as the El Jefe one, it showed a lot of potential for Carmelita gameplay. making her a playable main was a bad decision because i think she’s overpowered, whereas SP reserved her gameplay for tougher moments because of that very reason. but i remember having fun playing that.

i’m pretty sure you already know how i feel about the rest and i won’t get into it because it’ll cause an aneurysm. to this day, i still don’t know why Toothpick can enlarge. fat-shaming, racism and fart jokes galore, no narrative drive to back up any of the fights (especially the Black Knight one). redundant and boring. and... Le Paradox quick time event... trash.

next, i was going to go on a rant about Athena’s role in Storyteller, but i’ve already discussed this 4982043910 times both on here and the podcast. i’m just appalled by the fact that her defendant mistreats her in such a horrible way and she’s then presented to be so incompetent. the main point i wanted to make is what comes out of a comparison between Athena and Apollo. to quote the draft itself: Phoenix doesn’t like Apollo, especially in AJ, but even so, he trusts him enough to have him be the pawn in his plan. sure, Phoenix takes over for Kristoph once shit hits the fan but after that he leaves the rest up to Apollo and it’s like... why would you rely so heavily on a person you dislike with the risk of him jeopardizing your entire plan (from Trump to Succession), but then have a supposed prodigy flown over from Europe just to patronize her and her capabilities and infantilize her?

i mean... i hate to be the truth-teller on this one but ??? the image the entire cast has of Athena is so annoying. it’s subtly incorporated into DD because she handles none of the cases on her own, but in Storyteller she is full-on disrespected to her face and Blackquill is like ‘call Phoenix or Apollo’. sir. please leave.

then, i had two very random posts but never got around to actually writing them. the first one was about Infamous: Second Son of all things. basically it was about how SP fucked up when they made the enemies non-respawnable. i mean cleaning up Seattle was nice and all but if you give your protagonist the concrete power and the only source for it are the DUP soldiers, how are you supposed to get it again when you finish the game ?? i haven’t played the game in like 8 years but this is something so illogical that it stuck with me throughout the years and i often think about it.

the second random one was me attempting to rank the Toby Fox games and then failing miserably so that post turned into like a mini rant of how you can’t really count Deltarune 1 and 2 as a collective entry because of how different they are in tone and length, but you also can’t rank them separately because Deltarune 1 will by far be the inferior one. i feel like the following entries will match chapter 2 instead of 1, but they have to be ranked separately and you can’t pit them against Undertale. i think. because on the one hand, Undertale is so rich in lore, the characters are some of the best in videogame history, it was truly revolutionary, but Deltarune 2 holds a special place in my heart. the Queen is my favourite character in the entire Toby-verse and in general one of my fav characters in videogames, like i don’t understand how she’s still so underappreciated.

so yeah, that’s like the sum of my drafts’ spring cleaning. i’m relieved i pumped these out in one way or another because they’ve been gathering dust for the longest time. let me know what you think
