in light of me being a little silly, a little sillier, and finally reaching my silliest peak, I would like to introduce my favorite cringefail loser and give you headcannons about him
- Lester still had slightly purple veins after the possession. it was barely noticeable, but his blood, and therefore his veins, were a little darker. he just never points this out
- Lester had a little bit of a scuffle trying to get to California in the burning maze, and he literally never told anyone. just as a little silly. this is why he wanted maple lemon cronuts. he got in a fight at some random bakery (beacuse he wanted to get food for everyone) and he managed to snag food for everyone but himself
- Apollo visits Sweet on America, the place Sally used to work, and he'll get different candies his kids like, or he thinks they'll like. he is surprisingly successful at this, and now he keeps candy on his person at all times, like a grandma does
- Lester's complaints about memory loss were valid, for one. but the second thing? just for a lil spice, I think trying to access those memories hurts him just a little, enough for the brain to try and block those memories out. that's why his memory is super faulty. his brain is literally working against him
- Lester is checked over by Meg after every fight they have after The Big Stab™️, and she feels extra guilty when she finds out how tarquin was turning him into a zombie
- Lester was separated from Meg in a crowd once, while they were getting to the Tower of Nero. he flipped his ever-loving shit and proceeded to yell her name so loud he broke a window. Meg never got separated from him again
- Meg will do this thing where she will mispronounce words on purpose beacuse she knows that it annoys Lester. Lester eventually uses those mispronounciations in multiple haikus, and presents them to Meg in a written and stage performance. Meg has never been so annoyed and so touched in her life once she remembers that those were her mispronounciations. she then demands financial compensation for her words being used in said haikus
- Apollo (post ToA) does actually help herophile start some game shows. he gets her a nice setup and everything, and she soon becomes well known for her successful shows, both on normal channels and Hephestus TV.
- Meg eventually goes out and sees the ToA books on some bookstore shelves, and buys the entire series. she gets a lot of secondhand embarrassment due to Lester sometimes, but she enjoys re-living some good memories with her dummy. plus she likes hearing what the Arrow of Dodona actually had to say.
- Conversely, Apollo literally shrivels up in a ball when he finds out that Meg read the entire book series. he just lays there with his hands over his face while his kids swarm Meg to get her to show them the books. Apollo does not want to live through that, but he stays as they read the entire story. they all end up in a massive cuddle pile by the end
- Eventually, Artemis meets Meg. she kinda likes her by the end, but is somewhat jealous of the sibling relationship she has with Apollo. Apollo just likes seeing his two sisters get along. Meg, however, is a little conflicted as well. This is her annoying dummy, and someone else telling Apollo that, even in jest, grates on her a little (unless he deserved it. then she adds on)
- Apollo really likes fries. The big reason is they are cheap, and he would get a meal with the money they had at some gas station or fast food place, and give Meg the meal and just eat (and share) the fries. He did this right up to The Burning Maze, but only beacuse Aloe Vera kinda snitched on him to Grover. Aloe Vera only found out when she saw him climbing back down into the maze to eat the strawberries.
- Meg was super upset when she found out about the fry thing. Apollo insisted he was fine, and that he didn't need as much food as her, since she was still growing. She was a little more mad when she realizes she had been growing food that was meant to help in combat, and Apollo had to double back to get some, or he went hungry.

I fully get why people do not like trials of apollo. Back when I first read the percy jackson books in high school, the first TOA book was out so I started that immediately after the last Olympian. I ended up really like it, but a few months later when the dark prophecy released, I couldn’t stand apollo. I think partially it was me losing interest in the book, but it was also me skipping details of setting and being confused to what was going on.
Yet this January, six-ish years later, I read them all and loved it. TOA is literally my favorite in the series, I love all five books. Apollo is my favorite narrator. He just has so much change and potential, it’s amazing.
People who are still on the fence should power-through, because if you like Apollo then you’ll be glad to have more of him. If you don’t, well, you’ll see him suffer/lh
Regardless, TOA is amazing, please please, it needs more fanart and attention. I absolutely love TOA, and tower of Nero is best version of apollo we see and I hope we see more of him in the future.

You know, it may seem like Octavian is kind of a flat antagonist, especially following an act like Luke Castellan, but once you realize that he represents neofascism his actions and his fate seem more fitting and satisfying.
When Rick Riordan introduced Camp Jupiter, he folded ancient Rome into the lore of his series. Ancient Rome, which is famous for its tyrannical dictatorships and for being a massive inspiration for modern fascists such as the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. Octavian, who I assume is named after Augustus Caesar, the first official emperor of Rome and a de facto dictator, represents the ugly side of the Roman Empire. It would be irresponsible and foolhardy for Riordan to portray a society meant to “carry on the spirit of Rome” and not address the fascist, exploitative legacy of Rome.
Octavian is written as cruel, power-hungry, cunning, and imperialistic. He basically has no redeeming qualities, and all the heroic characters unilaterally despise him. Octavian believes he was encouraged by the gods to lead an assault on Camp Half-Blood, and during this battle he gets caught in an onager and accidentally blows himself up. Octavian is shown destroying himself because he tried to overextend the reach of his empire. He is a victim of his own imperialism, collapsing under the weight of an empire supported by unsustainable cruelty. His death mirrors the downfall of the Roman Empire.
(It is interesting to note that Nico di Angelo is the one to prevent any interference in Octavian’s death, since Nico lived in Mussolini’s Italy, something that is contextually acknowledged in The Tower of Nero. Mussolini was obsessed with ancient Rome and had intentions to revive the ancient origins of his country to merge them with its fascist present. Nico recalls his father Hades telling him that some people had to die as he allowed Octavian to destroy himself. I just find it really fitting that the the character who experienced 20th century fascist Europe firsthand was the one to treat Octavian’s neofascist resurgence without mercy.)
Octavian’s death is harsh, complete, and decisive – which is the only way to kill fascism. Octavian may not be interesting as a character like Luke is, but his arc and his death are full of thematic meaning. I think Rick Riordan did the right thing in obliterating the character that represented the unsavory political ideologies of ancient Rome.
And if that wasn’t overt enough a condemnation of fascism, the entire Trials of Apollo series is explicitly about antifascism. The main antagonists in this series are three of the most notoriously cruel Roman dictators, and the heroic characters are tasked with destroying them so that they don’t take over America. Considering that the classics field is rife with neofascists, I found it appropriate for Riordan to make the antifascism extremely contextual in his series inspired by ancient Greece and Rome.

The only thing I'm angry about with Trials of Apollo AND I MEAN ONLY THING is that not a single person knows what happened with him or what he did after the events of Tower of Nero.
Like did he walk off into the sunset with only a ukelele for company?? Did he just decide to fuck everything and take on Zeus in some really epic battle??? HAS HE BEEN IN THE BACKGROUND THIS ENTIRE TIME AND YOU CAN SEE HIM IF YOU SQUINT????
I NEED ANSWERS AND YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT I'D DO TO GET THEM

Kind of controversial but why are people acting like TSATS is Rick Riordan's first queer book? Like Magnus chase who? Trials of Apollo?
Warning ⚠️: Long rant under the cut. It's not very tsats friendly so please scroll if you don't want to read.
Idk it just feels like sometimes the fandom doesn't really view queer rep as valid unless it centers around romance. Completely biased as a toa fan but toa had so much rep. The bi mc, the gay geysers, the kindly old lesbian couple taking in unwanted kids, ace characters, characters struggling with comphet, characters crushing on people of the same gender and none of it being taken as something out of the ordinary. It just wasn't centred around romance.
The toa fandom has always been pretty small and chill with activity spiking everytime a new book releases. Then suddenly when Tower of Nero came out there were so many people. So what changed, what brought in so many people who weren't even interested in the premise of the book?
It was Solangelo.
I like solangelo as much as the next person (minus the year of seething rage when they were dominating the toa tag) but the way that people discount an amazing series about change, growth and overcoming abuse with some of the best casual queer rep I've seen and consider the only thing of value being a minor mlm couple with a few pages of screentime leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth.
Magnus chase is another book. Alex fierro isn't perfect rep (stop calling Alex slurs holy fuck) but it was revolutionary to have a gender fluid character in a children's series and this was back in 2016. Fierrochase is pretty popular but I wonder sometimes if Alex and Magnus would be as popular as they are if they never got together. They're still not as popular as solangelo but in good faith that might be because people became too fatigued to read mcga.
It just feels sometimes that these books are viewed as lesser queer books just because there's no shipping or it's not a (I'm so sorry don't kill me ) heart stopper esque gay couple. Idk if im taking this too personally as a potentially ace *slides nsfw art under desk* person whose gender is wonky but it's just my thoughts on this.
But I just feel like the focus should be on the countries banning and censoring the book instead of people with perfectly valid criticism of it. There are so many of his books with queer rep and most of the criticism I've seen have come from LGBTQIA+ people that like these books or at least put the same energy into scrutinizing them too. Idk why people assume anything bad said about TSATS was a bad faith reading done out of homophobia.
All that being said, tsats is definitely being marketed as the first queer book. It's banned not very accessible in my country despite all the others going through- which sucks. It's being treated like the first queer focused book Rick has written and it's coming out at a bad time for everyone but especially people in the US apparently. So I understand why any reactions would be taken as the fandoms reaction to the first queer book.
So who is more homophobic? The person who doesn't like a queer book or the person who holds a queer romance as the pinacle of queer? The answer : no clue man it's complicated and it's sucks that we're all so on edge in these trying times that we automatically assume the worst. There's nuance that a smarter person than me can elaborate on but I am not he.
Sorry for writing something so divisive during pride month but it is a conservation that should be had and what better month than one celebrating queer identity and representation. Hope everyone has a great pride month and stays safe.
Peace and love ✌️🏳️‍🌈💜

I really wish we got more Dionysus and Apollo interactions besides Tower of Nero because they really are like complete opposites. Mythologically we never really got to see them interact or get their opinions on eachother so I think Rick’s interpretation of their relationship is super interesting.

Hello I would like your opinion and all possible spoilers for will nico book pls I don’t want to read it but I wanna catch up 🙏
hello anon! prepare yourself for my unadulterated, raw opinion and be warned: it’s not pretty.
BIG SPOILERS AND HARSH HARSH NEGATIVITY UNDER THE CUT please don’t read if you don’t enjoy hating and being mean let yourself have fun if you liked the book <33
So.
Let’s start with this: I had the BEST INTENTIONS about this book. Yeah, I bullied the preview like anyone else, but I had really been intrigued by Nico’s dream sequence and I do love, despite everything I say, Solangelo. Nico has been one of my favourite characters for my entire life and I have wanted a book about him ever since I was 12.
You see how much was at stake for me to enjoy this book?
And I didn’t.
I didn’t, because this book SUCKS.
First of all 1) This shit was boring. Like, I’m sorry. Believe me, it breaks my heart to say something like that because Nico?? BORING??
But yeah. I dare anyone to tell me something actually meaningful that happens in the first half of the book. Will getting coffee on his shirt? The Percabeth pep talk? (And I’m quoting). The infinite, repetitive dream sequences that did nothing for me because they were, you know, infinite and repetitive?
There was also constant reiteration of things that had already happened in previous books, both in the form of dreams and flashbacks, both because the authors never let anything be implied or understood by the reader on their own. Every single thought and feeling and past experience of Nico is shouted at us ad nauseam because god forbid we forget loneliness is part of him and he could never be loved and his sister died and and and.
It’s almost like Mark and Rick browsed the online pjo fandom, took a look at all the things we like about Nico and said “hey, what if we constantly make him think and say exactly those things with an off-putting self awareness and a dramatic tone? I’m sure people will love that!”
I finally thought we were going somewhere with them getting caught stealing by Persephone (yeah that happens) but it transformed into yet another tirade about love and friendship and how important they are. Which brings me to the second point.
2) Someone put tape in the mouth of every single character in this book. I’m so serious.
How many endless, therapy-talk, this-is-an-adult-speaking-not-a-weird-teenager conversations did we get? I don’t know. A million?
I’m reading a fantasy book. Do I need to be reminded about the importance of healthy boundaries and communication every time I turn the page?
I know, I know. The book is for kids and kids need to learn that friendship is magic and whatever.
But, yk, PJO and HoO and ToA are for kids too and while they have their flaws, I never felt like they were giving me a lecture.
This book was downright insufferable. I didn’t have pure, unadulterated fun for a single moment and it wasn’t because I had outgrown the target, which would have been a much more understandable reason, but because it was so slow and didactic and moralistic and lacked any humor except a couple of forced meta jokes. It was fucking sad.
And that serves me point 3 right on a silver platter.
3) Will and Nico have 0 chemistry and I wanted to beat the shit out of them
Seriously when did these two start hating each other. When did they start giving “why are we together” energy. I don’t get it. What happened.
They were so great in the Tower of Nero. They were fun, and colourful, and dynamic, and different, and teenagers, but also you could see that they were two people going through a lot. It didn’t feel as if Nico’s trauma was cheapened just because he occasionally enjoyed spending time with his boyfriend.
In this book… I mean, we get told they are in love. We get told approximately a million of times.
But what we are shown is two people constantly on the brink of beating each other with sticks. We didn’t get one big explosive stress fight, or the resurfacing of a couple of buried issues, as I expected. What we got was an exhausting death by a thousand cuts where Nico was angry at Will for breathing (seriously, count how many times the words annoyed or irritated are said about Nico in regards to his boyfriend) and Will apparently doesn’t understand Nico at all after a year of dating.
Basically, Nico is constantly mad at Will because Will doesn’t like the Underworld and never fails to make it known, while the Underworld is Nico’s home, and that could have been a kind of potentially interesting point of conflict if it hadn’t become draining at page 20. Was it realistic? I mean, I guess!! But that doesn’t mean I wanted to see that shit the entire time.
This was an urban fantasy book for middle schoolers!!! I wanted to have fun!! I didn’t have fun!!!
How could anyone ever have fun with a 400 page long account of two idiot teenagers getting on each other’s nerve with the occasional therapy communication-kiss-therapy communication-kiss interlude? NOT ME.
If that’s you, good for you, truly. But how is this Percy Jackson? Percy Jackson built an empire on being funny and cheeky in an effortless way and ToA followed suit, no matter what personal gripe one may have against the series. HoO is a bit of a wild card, but it was never close to being this flat and depressing. Not. Even. Close.
And as if two protagonists who I used to love being a giant pain in my ass wasn’t enough, the meager plot one can occasionally find between a dream sequence and a flashback and a stupid argument and a conversation about how humanity is love or whatever isn’t even compelling or engaging.
4) And are the interesting new characters in the room with us, Rick?
The only bad guy of the book is Nyx. Nyx is bad because she’s Darkness. She was born Bad and will die Bad and she’s Baddy McBad.
But don’t worry if the villain underwhelms you, because we will meet new interesting characters too!
… yeah, no.
We won’t.
Again. This is a kids’ book.
But. Have we forgotten Percy Jackson is for middle to high schoolers? Like, I know of people enjoying it well into their 20s because it’s nice fun. When did it become for 2 year olds?
Let’s leave aside the fact that Nyx’s motive makes little sense (no worries anon, we will be talking about this later) because there’s no way she cares this much about Nico Di Angelo. Not even I care this much about Nico Di Angelo and he’s been my entire personality ever since I was eleven. Be fucking for real. You’re not that guy, pal.
Any other character who’s not Nyx that is shown is sweet and kind and is changing and is in love and has been to therapy and loves other people. I could have vaguely accepted this (honestly, ToA often worked on a very similar premise), if it hadn’t meant making every single person or monster or whatever Will and Nico meet painfully boring. Literally fucking blank states.
I spent the whole book begging for Apollo to show up just so that someone could admit to drowning his ex in a bathtub and make a sex joke immediately after, because no one else was doing anything remotely cool whatsoever.
Even Persephone and Hades became Disney characters and wistfully raved about the power of love. What. The. Fuck.
It’s so wrong because ToA did the whole “love is everywhere, humans (and creatures) are cool” thing so much better while its characters still managed to have a personality, or were at the very least funny, and some were even villains.
This was all so blah.
Okay, now. Prepare yourself anon. Get a seat. Get a drink.
5) The finale.
Super short summary: Nyx wants Nico Di Angelo to live in Tartarus with her because Nico is special and unique and no one is like him. She makes babies out of his worst nightmares and traumas (because she can… do that, I guess?) and tries to guilt him into staying.
Yeah I know that this is weird as fuck but stay with me.
Nico Di Angelo is special and unique and has the power of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on his side, so he tells her to fuck off AND keeps the trauma babies, without any sacrifice required at all. If you’re asking yourself what role Will has in this, it’s zero. Zilch. He was literally useless for the actual plot, but we’ll get to that later.
After escaping Tartarus with Bob, Small Bob, Will and trauma babies, Nico finds out this entire thing has been plotted by Hades, who faked a whole prophecy to send his own son back to Tartarus and save Bob, because he knew Nico could do it and he loves Bob or whatever. Hades also hugs Nico and tells him he’s proud of him because he’s special and unique, and for some incomprehensible reason that I’m still attempting to concoct Nico doesn’t kick his ass for it.
He re-traumatised Nico just to get Bob out of Tartarus (because his voice was bothering him or whatever) but… I guess that’s okayyy?
I’m not going to comment any further on Nyx and trauma babies because frankly it’s just plain weird. Like I don’t even know what to say, except that it seems kind of far-fetched for a primordial goddess to do all that for Some Guy. I do have something to say against the Some Guy, though.
6) Someone sucker punch Nico, please.
Never have I ever seen a character act like such a dumb asshole for the entire run of a book while somehow being worshipped for being the Best Person Ever.
You know what was great about Nico? The fact that the books weren’t constantly yelling at you that HE IS GOOD HE IS GOOD HE IS GOOD HE IS GOOD LOOK AT HIM BEING GOOD DOING A THANKLESS JOB BECAUSE HE’S GOOD. You just kinda had to put 2 and 2 together. He acted like he wanted nobody and cared for nobody but we, the readers, called bullshit because everything he did went against that narrative. And when he was outed in HoH, we all said “oooooh”. Him loving Percy made so much more sense than him hating Percy, because his actions spoke louder than his words.
He was a kid, and he was going through it, but he was never completely won over by the bad side because he cared too much about people, even when they didn’t care about him. To quote myself, Nico has never won the idgaf war.
Well, in this book he won the idgaf war. He treated Will like shit, which we’ll attribute to nerves. His thoughts about dead people desperately looking for redemption or release were disturbingly unsympathetic, and he just did things without ever thinking of the consequences for others.
To be fair, this wasn’t a total 180 for him: Nico was previously shown to be touchy and defensive (hence the being mean to Will, who occasionally makes the grave mistake of expressing a thought that isn’t overwhelmingly positive on the literal worst place on the planet), cold (him killing Bryce and Octavian etc) and impulsive. Character flaws, we love them!!
Except that the final moral of the book is that Nico is The Best Person Ever Who Never Asked For Anything In Return For His Whole Complete Goodness And Now Gets An Army Of Little Trauma Babies Who Worship Him.
Ummm… Nico canonically commited murder? Hello?
Sure, he was never Bad, and Love Was In His Heart and all, but the entire point of his character arc was deciding that love was enough. Nico has, again and again, flirted with the bad guys, and been sketchy. He’s not PJO’s Jesus, and this last minute treatment of him was so weird.
We all wanted Nico to have a Win™️ , but it could have been anything less on the nose (NICO IS SO GREAT GUYS OMG) and it still would have been fine.
Also just… idk there’s something that rubs me the wrong way about pretending that pre-tsats Nico was trauma trauma trauma pain pain pain. Life is complex. Nico was a character that happened to go through things, not a character that things happened to with nothing else going for him.
What about Will, though? Well…
7) Will, get behind me.
Is he dumb? Yes.
Does he understand Nico perfectly? No.
Do I like him? The jury is out.
But he did not deserve this slander. Like, omg. He spent the book getting bullied and being useless in battles because he’s not a fighter and Tartarus makes Apollo’s kids weak (wow who would have thought!).
Nico made him cry, for fucks’ sake. A full on sob cry. Admittedly he had acted foolishly but damn.
He’s just a silly little guy, your honor😭
He also, inexplicably, didn’t expeditiously call his father or his mother or the firefighters or someone to kidnap Hades and flog him, despite the fact that Hades tortured his boyfriend for months and sent them both to Tartarus on a fake prophecy.
On a bright note, his pov was actually pretty okay.
So yeah, anon. This book is a pile of genuinely weird, kinda mean spirited and annoyingly moralistic garbage that created PJO Jesus, gave said PJO Jesus babies (?) shoved a couple of gay jokes in the middle of it as if I wouldn’t notice the rest, unwatered my crops, uncleared my skin, single-handedly managed to kill my PJO fixation that has been going on since middle school in six hours and kicked my dog on top of it.
Thanks for reading.

Yk there's something so hot about Tall!Reader in all her glory
Tumblr media
Okay imagine this, you, a 6'8 woman and your boyfriend
Vergil who is only 6'5, and is super embarrassed about having to look up instead of down at you to talk to you.
Your height doesn't really affect the way you two live, although it does feel weird knowing his own girlfriend is taller than him.
Oh but in the bedroom? That's a whole different story, if he actually let's you put a leash on him (which is highly unlikely if he's in a bad mood) he loves the way you just tower over him while he's on all fours, turns him on real good.
Dante who is a whopping 6'3, is like Vergil, embarrassed, that his significant other is a whole 5 inches taller than him. It's quite embarrassing if you're out for a walk and he just pretends you're a friend and what-not.
He should know by now that doing that sort of thing gets him in a lot of trouble. One time he introduced you to Lady and Trish as a "friend" and let's just say later that night he swore he could see God.
Nero is a 6'2 cutie pie and honestly is not that embarrassed about it, he's chill with you being taller than him, all he knows is that you'll give him great cuddles, considering that you'll probably wrap your entire body around him.
The only thing he does get embarrassed about is that he sometimes needs your help to grab something off a shelf that's just a little bit out of his reach.
I have a feeling that one time he wanted to try something different, so the next thing you know Nero's head is slightly grazing against the roof as you're busy lapping your tongue around his shaft in the damn shower, yea let's just say the next day he's having headaches from bumping the roof so much.
V who is 6'4 (I think) has no problem with you being taller than him, as long as he has someone there to take care of him and protect him, he's doesn't care.
What's his favorite is when, let's say, you're busy ordering food, he walks up right next to and stands up on his toes, then directly in your ear he whispers the most dirtiest thing he could think of, and just leaves as if he hadn't peeped a word. The reaction you get while the face you give him always makes him smile.
What's another of his favourites is when he's sitting directly at the end of the bed, with absolutely nothing on. The way you slowly walk towards and tower over him, what he likes to do during the time that you're towering over him is he likes to slowly spread his legs open, showing that he's all yours, you're the hunter and he's oh so definitely the prey.

Fandom: Trials of Apollo Rating: Teen Genre: Angst/Hurt/Comfort Characters: Gracie, Jerry, Yan By the end of the battle, Apollo called his youngest children "looking like seasoned pros", but that's not a good thing, not when it was their first battle. TOApril 2024 day 2 - Growing Pains. This was difficult because I wasn't sure how to do this prompt, but in the end I settled on more TON trio kid content! That was not a fun field trip, Chiron!
Gracie was scared.
Chiron had said it was a training exercise.  He’d called it a field trip, to get used to fighting monsters in a controlled environment, but Gracie had met human-Apollo.  Will and Nico had disappeared for a day, leaving Lester (because she wasn’t going to call the weird teenager Dad even if Will and Austin and Kayla did; they’d told her their Dad was the guy that came in dreams, and that wasn’t this pimply teenager Will’s age) behind, and he’d been tense and scared.
Austin and Kayla had been tense, too, especially when Lester and Meg left with Will and Nico and they were the senior campers.  Kayla had kept counting arrows and fletching more until Austin made her stop because her fingers were going sore and she’d need them healthy for later.
Gracie hadn’t been at camp very long, but she didn’t think Chiron’s idea of a field trip-training exercise was the same thing her half-siblings had been preparing for.  The training exercises they’d done in camp had been fun, not… whatever this was.
It was the same with the other campers; the ones like Gracie, that had joined recently, seemed excited about the training trip, and Gracie understood that because it was something different, they got to take their weapons and go out on a trip like she did at school sometimes and have fun!  If it wasn’t for Austin and Kayla, and Will and Lester when they were still at camp, she would be that excited, too.
It had been fun, to start with!  Despite being weirdly tense, Austin had led them in songs while they’d travelled to New York in the bus, and Gracie had gladly joined in, even though she didn’t know all of the songs – or hadn’t done, to start with.  Austin was a good teacher, and Gracie had always been good at picking up songs.
Then they had arrived, and the Ares and Athena campers had charged in ahead.  Gracie hadn’t realised it then, when despite the tenseness she hadn’t really understood why the older campers hadn’t been as excited about this trip as the newer ones, but they’d taken on the front line of Nero’s forces, the biggest and strongest of the grunt fighters.
She’d found that out when Will was gone, disappeared at some point when she hadn’t been looking, and Kayla and Austin were also gone, and a grim faced Sherman had dumped a bleeding Ares kid she didn’t remember the name of on her, because she was the nearest Apollo kid.
There was so much blood.
So much of it, on the once white tiles of Nero’s boring tower, on the orange t-shirt and celestial bronze armour that hadn’t stopped whatever had hit the other camper that hard, and Gracie didn’t know what to do.
Were they dying?  Was it worse than it looked?  What did Sherman expect her to do about it?  She looked around frantically, for Will, or Austin, or Kayla, or Chiron, but she couldn’t see any of them, just more fighting, more blood.
There were screams, too, and not all of them weren’t human.  Shouts and yells and this wasn’t fun.
Gracie didn’t think this was fun.  Ben raced past in his wheelchair, whooping loudly with something splattered on his wheels and over his armoured, spiky gloves, so clearly he did, but he wasn’t the one with a bleeding out camper that had been dumped on him with the expectation that she could do something about it.
She supposed she should be able to.  Apollo was the god of healing, and Will was amazing at it.  He’d even taught her a few things – not the singing, not the hymns.  She knew the words and the tune because it was music but she couldn’t get it to work and Will had said that was okay.  She could still do triage, he’d told her, could still clean wounds and wrap them up and keep people alive.
Jerry had got as far as stitching, and he could get a chanted hymn to do something, but Gracie couldn’t and she couldn’t see him if she looked around.  She could see Yan, standing tall with their bow and picking off Nero’s followers if they got too close, but Jerry was out of sight.
It was down to her, then, and she didn’t know if her patient was dying but they seemed pretty bad and Sherman had taken the time out of a fight to get them to her.
The blood was sticky, when she tentatively put her hand on their shoulder, not on a wound but close enough.  Sticky and warm and part of Gracie wanted to throw up.  It wasn’t that she was bad with blood – this wasn’t even the first time she’d seen blood, she’d helped Will after Capture the Flag because all Apollo kids helped out after Capture the Flag, no matter how not good they were at healing – it was the fact that it was on her.
She was the one that had to keep this camper alive.  That was all on her and it was terrifying.
Focus, Gracie, she told herself desperately, and blindly reached for the small bag on her back that Will had made her pack herself so she knew exactly where everything was.  She still fumbled, shrugging the bag off and rummaging through it desperately because she didn’t remember where she’d put everything, before her fingers wrapped around something cool and fragile-feeling, although Will had promised her those particular vials never broke.
Gracie wasn’t quite sure she believed him, but it was intact as she pulled it out, a miniscule bottle of amber liquid.  A single dose, because judging amounts in action was difficult and a mistake would be fatal, so Will had made sure she was only carrying single-dose vials.
At the time, she’d been a little offended that he thought she’d mess up something like that, when it had been drilled into her over and over and over again how dangerous it all was.
Now, with shaking fingers that kept fumbling the stopper, Gracie was glad, because she’d have been too scared to even try and judge it like this, alone with no supervision and a maybe-dying camper in front of her.
She wasn’t sure if it all even went in their mouth or if she still spilled some down their cheeks instead, but it was administered and now she had to do… what?  What came next?
Stop the bleeding.  The blood was still sticky and warm and it was still leaking out of them.  Clean and wrap and-
An arrow shrieked past her and Gracie’s head jerked up.  There was one of Nero’s wolf-like followers right in front of her, weapon raised, and her eyes went large as her face went cold because-
There was an arrow in their heart, which had them stumbling backwards as they started turning into monster-dust, but Gracie was shaking even more because if Yan hadn’t-
She’d be dead.
She hadn’t even noticed.
Bursting into tears on the battlefield – because this was, it was a battlefield and they could die despite what Chiron said about training trips – seemed like the sort of thing that should not be done, but Gracie couldn’t help it, bandages slipping from her fingers as her chest heaved, because she was terrified.
How could she save someone’s life if she was going to get killed doing it?  How was she supposed to do this without getting killed?  She’d only been a demigod for a couple of months, she was not ready for anything like this!
“Gracie!”  Hands grabbed her and she whipped around to see Jerry.  He tugged her into a hug and she resisted because what if they got killed but then there were legs in front of them and she looked up to see Yan standing over them.
“You two heal,” they said, and their voice wasn’t steady, either, but their bow was and that was comforting.  “I’ll protect.”
“Y-yeah!” Jerry replied, and he looked like he’d been crying, too.  There was blood on his hands, and a smear across his forehead.  “We got this.  Don’t let us die.”
“I won’t.”
Gracie still didn’t feel safe.  Yan was good but they hadn’t been a demigod much longer, and Jerry was a better healer than her but hadn’t been trained for very long, either, but it was a little bit easier, with both of them with her.
“I’ve given nectar,” she reported shakily, and Jerry gave her a watery grin.
“Awesome,” he said, although it came out shakier than she thought he wanted.  He was scared as well – this was his first battle.  Their first battle, and their experienced siblings were nowhere to be seen, somewhere in the thick of things and not on the edges, and Gracie didn’t want to know how terrifying the thick of things was when the edges were this bad.
But Jerry was a better healer than her, and with Yan standing guard, their bowstring singing as they shot anything that tried to get close, they got the Ares camper stabilised.
It should have felt like a victory – a battlefield healing!  They did it! – but all Gracie could think about was how that was only one person, and how many more times they were going to have to do it before they were all over.
She burst into exhausted tears at the thought.

Hey My English is pretty bad but i have a questions for You, on the dark profecy Calypso said that leo isnt her saviour but leo think he is, i don't understand why she thinks he doesnt do You have any throughts of it?
First, don't worry about your English! I'm a non native English speaker myself :)
Second: you know what? That is a valid question. A disclaimer before I get into it: It's been a few years since I've read The Dark Prophecy so my memories of the exact context of that scene are (more than a little) hazy. I don't have the book in my hands so I could check it right now. But I do remember that that exact line made me kind of cringe too when I was reading it.
Anyway, from what I can remember, Calypso was having some difficulties in adjusting into her new life. Living in the modern USA is so different from the life she was used to, and even though Ogygia was also her prison, I believe she was occasionally feeling some homesickness and she also missed having her powers. Well, all of that and the fact Leo and Calypso didn't really manage to talk about their issues (=lack of communication) caused her to snap. Leo is absolutely one of my favorites in HoO, but he isn't perfect either: he didn't always respect or listen to Calypso's wishes, such as when she told him to not call her Mamacita (there were more examples but I can't remember the details right now).
So, from there we get to the question: was Calypso's snapping justified? Not really, not in my opinion at least. It is a fact that she can't/shouldn't deny that without Leo she /would/ still be in Ogygia and would likely never get out of there on her own, because the gods didn't want to release her. In other words, Leo /was/ her savior in that sense.
But was her snapping surprising? Again, not really, not for the reasons I explained earlier. The girl has a lot to deal with and sometimes we say things we don't really mean when we are frustrated. What these two need in order for their relationship to work is to talk about what's bothering them. In TDP it seemed both were bottling up things inside them and then waiting till things were at boiling point, which caused them to fight. (Tower of Nero spoilers ahead if you haven't read that book!) I think the break that was mentioned in ToN is probably a good thing in the long run bc that way they both can process what they want and what they should do differently. Honestly, I feel that at that point Rick had just read so much Caleo hate on the internet that he was like 'screw it'.
Why do I think Rick wrote Calypso that way? He was likely afraid of presenting her as a damsel in distress. These days the books targeted for younger audiences are all about having badass female characters, and Rick is someone who doesn't take criticism well (see f. ex. the way he wrote a whole essay about why he presented Piper the way he did when he got criticism for it) so he was probably worried that Calypso admitting that Leo did save her would probably paint her in the wrong kind of light. Well, if that was his reasoning, he was wrong there. Admitting the facts doesn't make someone weaker. (To be honest I disliked TDP so much that I prefer to just ignore the whole book, I don't understand why he ruined good characters that way.)
This became way too long and rambly, I'm sorry. I hope you still got something out of this answer! TLDR: I don't think Calypso actually meant what she said about Leo not being her savior, she was just so frustrated with her whole situation that it caused her to snap.

"Happiness Memories" ft. Southern Wizards
Tumblr media
See end for context or notes
For this month’s cover, the wizards from the Southern Country gathered in their third anniversary outfits to talk about their happiest memories ever since they were selected as Sage’s wizards.
Rutile: After all, we’re living in the same place now, right?
Figaro: Right. I saw Rutile and Mitile often in the past, but I’ve never spent this much time with Leno before.
Mitile: Mister Leno was a shepherd, so we could only see him when he came back to town during winter.*
Lennox: Oh. I spent a lot of time living in the mountains with the sheep. It’s been a long time since I’ve had people by my side everyday. It’s been very lively.
Rutile: Every year when Mister Leno came back from the mountains, I used to greet him. It makes me happy that we can spend time together every day now!
Lennox: Haha, thank you. I feel the same way.
Figaro: Hey, you two, what about me?
Mitile: I’m happy that we get to see Doctor Figaro everyday!
Rutile: Ever since we started living together, and started going on various missions, we’re able to go to places we’ve never been before. We even flew to the edge of the Southern Country for the holy festival!
Mitile: That’s where Muumuu lives! It’s a really nice place with lush vegetation and it smells like the sun. It’s far away, but I want to visit again!
Lennox: We also traveled to the garden of eternal rain. It is thanks to everyone that I was able to mourn and pay my respects to the feelings Colin left behind. …The rain was very nice.
Figaro: I was surprised when I heard that there was an underground palace in the frontier of Southern Country. An ancient type of magical creature was sealed away there. But thanks to the cooperation of everyone, we were able to protect the land.
Rutile: When we went to the town with the clock tower, we stayed there for a while to help with the reconstruction of the town. It was a little sad to see the village children say goodbye to their beloved Miss Claire, but… they were all so strong and clever. I encouraged them lots.
Mitile: I am happy that we were all able to go to Doctor Figaro’s clinic, too, didn’t we? I was acting selfishly at that time, but the clinic is very important to me. I don’t want anything serious like that to happen again, but if anything happens, we’ll protect it!
Lennox: We could talk endlessly. It hasn’t been that long since we came to the manor, but I have so many memories.
Rutile: There aren't all happy memories, but… I’m always happy that everyone is able to return safely to the manor.
Mitile: Me too. We all eat dinner together, and sleep under the same roof, saying “I’m a little tired today.” The next morning, when we leave our rooms, we might run into each other and laugh about the bedhead you weren’t able to fix.
Figaro: Those kinds of trivial moments make me smile. No matter how difficult the day before was, I can wake up saying “I’m sure I’ll be fine today.”
Lennox: Yes. I feel like the days that have passed by are irreplaceable. It would be nice if we could live in peace forever, without leaving anyone behind. To attain such a future, I’m not afraid to test my limits.
Rutile: Please don’t be reckless. Mister Leno, who always protects us, is cool, but we would be sad if you got hurt…
Mitile: Please count on us as well. I’ll do my best to become strong enough to protect Mister Leno and Doctor Figaro so that we can continue having fun, just like this!
Figaro: You’re reliable, but let’s do our best in moderation so that we can laugh again together like this.
Lennox: Every day spent at the manor is a series of surprises and discoveries. I’m sure that there will be new memories to come.
Rutile: That’s a really happy thing, isn’t it? Come to think of it, there’s that time when… Oh, once we start talking, it seems like we won’t be able to stop! If you don’t mind, why don’t we continue our conversation in my room after this?
Mitile: That sounds nice! I have some leftover snacks that Mister Nero secretly shared with me yesterday, so I’ll take them with me.
Figaro: Can I take some booze with me? I have some whiskey that Shylock saved for me.
Mitile: Huh, but it’s only noon!?
Lennox: Ah, you’re talking about the one that you mentioned that when you combine it with herbal tea, it turns into a medicinal liquor? I had a bit of it at the bar, and it tasted good.
Rutile: Ah….! I want to try that… I’d like to try it too, Mitile. Come on, just a little bit!
Mitile: Even my brother is…. Fine, it can’t be helped. Only in moderation!
Rutile: Yay!
Figaro: I’m glad we were able to get your permission. I’ll see you all in Rutile’s room later, then. There should be some dried fruits left on my shelf, so I’ll bring some.
Lennox: Well, I’ll stop by the kitchen and ask Nero if there is any fruit left over. Hopefully there is something that will go well with the herbs.
Mitile: …Ehehe.
Rutile: I’m looking forward to it, Mitile!
Mitile: Yes!
*In a Rheita Mountains sub-episode, Mitile talks about how Lennox would come to the Town of Clouds during the winter and head back to the mountains in the spring

part of what in my opinion makes will interesting is that in contrast he is one of the most normal demigods we meet. all of our other protagonists live intensely different lives from the rest of demigods, it was established in pjo that most demigods never go on quests and outside of random monster attacks are somewhat able to live normal lives.
Other than the battles that seem to be more specific to this generation of demigods than a general rule for them as a whole, will could’ve given us insight into what camp half blood is like, something we don’t really know because our narrators are usually off on quests rather than canoing or making friendship bracelets. Will is not a hero, and he’s not a fighter, being a huge contrast from all of the other demigods we know.
So as he becomes more and more of a protagonist as with tower of nero and tsats he becomes more and more like the other demigods we know and less, i guess, special?? idk less of what drew me to him in the first place
also not to look at it from a shipping stand point but will to nico sort of represents him being able to let loose and be a (almost) normal teenager, also just representing him being more accepted into camp half blood as a whole, so him going on a quest with nico, going back into the absurd to me sorta goes against the point of his character???
idk if i articulated this well

Alright I apologize for lack of actual content minus reposts as of late, creative block sucks cuck. But I guess that gives me an excuse to share more of what I've cooked up for the Double Lester AU/The Son of the Priest!
-The books have their own titles in this to seperate them from the OG. A Fallen God's Plea, The Wrath of Neos Helios, Blood Moon Rising, and The Last Trial all correspond to, respectively, The Hidden Oracle, The Burning Maze, The Tyrant's Tomb, and The Tower of Nero. You may notice The Dark Prophecy isn't here, that's because I can't think of a good alternative title for the story told in the AU version, it might just stay the same idk yet.
-I'm aging up Meg just a little, to 14 from the start. I confess I do this because it's hard for me to keep Meg in character, so I'm going the cheap route to make her a bit more flexible to me. Don't fire me pls I'll try to keep her close to canon
-Nifty idea I had while doing my notes for Blood Moon Rising: Lester progressively becomes more ghostlike as Apollo's infection worsens (since the Body-Soul Link connects them.) At first, it just makes Lester's veins more purple and it more difficult not to break into his true aoroi self, but over time he simply can't go back into his human state and has to keep a tight handle on himself so as to not attack people. His aoroi appearance has a distinct violet tinge instead of pale blue, and the poison in him (well, more Apollo) shows as glowing lavender veins, much like if you injected glowstick fluid in your bloodstream. By the time we reach the end with Tarquin, Lester is struggling so badly not to give in to the violent urges, Tarquin's beckoning to join him, and the amount of pain he's in, but he pushes through everything knowing there's still that smallest chance of help... of hope.
-I AM SOOOO excited to get to Nero and Python. Netos death won't be so anticlimatic- if fact he goes out with a bang- and Python... well for one it's serious Lester abuse ouch, but it's the peak of Apollo and Lester's character arcs. Neither of them are afraid to face Python because they have each other and aren't alone. They aren't afraid to die, hell Lester just goes into Badass Mode the whole fight, a stark contrast to the wimpy coward we met at the very beginning of everything. He does everything he can to assist Apollo knowing damn well there is no chance of him surviving the battle. The lil fucker just refuses to die.
And that's before I get to Apollo. He feels horrible knowing Lester is almost guaranteed to die in Delphi, and he will not let him. He will do whatever it takes to save Lester from the fate Python bestowed on him, consequences be damned. He's willing to die for Lester, and Lester's willing to die for Apollo. That's what love does bby
-A snippet of the many abilities of the Body-Soul Link is that Lester, on a few occasions, can actually SORT OF see Apollo's true appearance. In reality he looks like a fuzzy, glowing gold 3D lineart and his face is really hard to make out, but Lester's Mist-piercing vision helps him a bit... and he gets flustered every time. "A-am I gay now?"
-also Lester, despite his temper, is such a sweetheart to everyone hnngh too precious. For one, he's such a big brother to Meg, he cried when Meg said she sees him and Apollo as siblings. He gives back to the poor. He cares about nature. Fuck I can't wait to this precious little bean to yall aaaaaa

NERO MY BELOVED SOULMATE BESTIE!!!!
i’m back!!! i took a few weeks off because life has been a lot and i felt like i needed a little break from everything 🥲
how are you?? what have you been up to in these last few weeks?? i missed you so much!! and i have stories to tell!!
so, i went to paris for a week back in october. i don’t know if you knew this, but paris has been plagued by a bug infestation lately, and the week before me and my friend were supposed to leave they also started having bomb alarms around the city. like the day before we left versailles had been evacuated for a bomb (it was a false alarm in the end) so we were kinda scared and worried. but the city was okay and we didn’t have much of a choice so we went. it was amazing!!! the first two days were perfect, the weather was absolutely amazing, freezing but always sunny, and we walked around the classic spots of the city. we had lots of macarons and croissants too. that was always the best part of the day. then on day three we’d booked versailles. on the day before it had been evacuated again for a false alarm so i thought it would be safe, they checked the night before, but well… after we’d been inside one hour the guards started to talk hurriedly to each other and they led us to the exits, we got evacuated. it looked like they were trying not to cause a panic but it didn’t work, also because there were way too many people inside!! it was crazy and scary, but luckily we were okay and we got safely out. and it was another false alarm, luckily. we decided not to let it ruin the whole trip so that night we went to the eiffel tower and had a nice dinner and dessert. then day four was disneyland!!! it was SPECTACULAR!!! nero have you ever been to a disneyland park?? it is everything you could ever hope it to be. it is pure magic, pure happiness. my friend and i felt like we were outside of the universe, it felt like nothing could touch us, like no problem could reach us. we were kids again. we were singing along to all the songs from our childhood and riding all the attractions and posing with princesses and cartoon animals and we bought so many little souvenirs to keep the magic with us. i got a cheshire cat plushie which is now my favorite thing i own. i have absolutely no regrets even if it costed 30 euros. same goes for my minnie’s ears which had a unicorn horn and a rainbow veil (see attached photograph) another 30 bucks, i have worn them only once, and i love them to pieces 😂 anyways, now is where the fun part really starts. we walked out of disneyland at 11pm after the night show (made me cry for 30 minutes straight, totally would recommend) and we had to take a train to get to the underground. well obviously there was a suspicious backpack at the station so it was closed for about 30 minutes to figure out what it was. it was late and our phones were almost dead so we tried to look for a taxi or bus and they’d put up a special bus service to take us to the closest train station, but as you can imagine it was absolutely packed and when we got off my friend noticed that her bag was open and her wallet was gone. we rushed back to the park to see if they’d had it in the last shop where she bought something but nothing, then we rushed back home to call the police and block all the cards, but of course we only got to the champs-elysées and then they kicked us out of the underground because it was closing. again our phones were out of battery so we didn’t even know if the buses were still running or not or how to call a cab, but luckily a cab passed by like two minutes later and we managed to get back to the hotel. and well, the 24h hotel door was closed. we panicked for about 10 minutes and ringed the bell a thousand times before anyone came to open the door. they were “just in the back for a minute” and i mean, fair enough, but on top of everything it was just the last drop.
anyways, the next morning we went to the police and got all the documents we needed to get back to italy and it was okay, it was just a very long wait for a two seconds job so it pissed me off a bit, but still we had a whole day and a half left so we enjoyed it. we had the louvre planned for that afternoon and it was so beautiful. and it was very heartstopping. pun intended 😂 we actually went and looked for every room we saw in the show and stayed about five hours in each one. this is where elle and tao kiss for the first time, it’s the exact place. can you guess how much i cried??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the only thing we couldn’t find was the painting on the stairs where nick talks to elle. i was very upset about that :( but anyways, the next day we came home and all i can say for this trip is wow. it felt like a five months trip somehow 😂 it was tiring and stressful and it tested my anxiety a lot, but honestly it was kind of perfect. this friend i was with is my opposite and my half in a lot of things and somehow we managed to laugh it all off whenever something crazy happened and we still had one of the absolute best trips of my life. i am so happy, i actually am getting a tattoo for our day at disneyland because it feels necessary hehe
and speaking of tattoos, i have a new one to show you!!! i finally got another heartstopper tattoo!!! and it is perfect and my favorite ever ♥️ i’ve wanted this vignette on my skin forever, and every time i see it it reminds me of everything about this story and it makes me so happy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways, enough about me!!! i’ve been away from this hellsite for so long, so how are you?? how is life?? i am very eager to catch up!!
i’m sending you a macaron because i am craving them again now (i’ve tried the marie antoniette macaron and i swear to god it feels like drinking a cup of tea, it’s unreal) and a warm tea to drink as you read because i’ve written so damn much, i can’t tell a simple story i missed you so so so much nero <3333
HELLO CECE MY BELOVED SOULMATE BESTIE!!!
it is so wonderful to hear from you!! i missed you so so much!! i was wondering how your trip went!! tbh i have been very on and off this website just because life is so exhausting :') i'm very excited to catch up with what's been happening with you!!
yes! i did hear about the bedbug thing! i had a few friends in paris around the same time and it was also all over the news here (funny that...) but i did not hear about the bomb alarms, that must have been so scary!! oh i can only imagine how lovely the macarons and the croissants were. nothing would be better than the original! i'm glad it was a false alarm and that you all got out safe. that must have been terrifying. AND DISNEYLAND?! cece i have never ever been to a disneyland but it has always been a dream of mine! i think the closest disneyland to me is japan or singapore 😭😭😭 but that's so wonderful to hear that you had such a lovely time!!! what was your favourite ride? any snacks you would recommend?? i would love to see the cheshire cat plushy, it sounds adorable! and the minnie ears!!! i'm obsessed and you're right: buying ears at disneyland is essential, it doesn't matter if you only wear them for the day! and what an end to a good day 😂😂 that sounds so anxiety-inducing, i audibly gasped as i was reading 😂
literally!!! government documents and officials make you wait so long for something that takes so little time!!! it's so fucking frustrating >:( the louvre!!! that would have been so cool, and it would have had extra meaning because of the show!! and i think i would have died a little, looking at the exact spot elle and tao had their first kiss! i don't blame you for crying at all 😂😂
a positive is that you got to see every other painting and iconic place from heartstopper and that's all that matters!! the trip sounded like so much fun, but yes, very draining with all those things not going to plan!! and i'm so glad you went with a friend who would laugh it all off with you and still make sure you guys had a good time!! that would have been so lovely! oh and absolutely you need to get a disneyland tattoo!! that would be perfect!
speaking of perfect, your new tattoo is so cute!!!! i love that panel too and it's just such a good representation of nick and charlie's relationship throughout the series!! and a really good placement too. ugh you always get the best tattoos!
as for me, i've been doing okay!! i have finished university for the year, and i am currently preparing for my exchange (i go to the uk NEXT MONTH! cece that is so crazy) a part of preparing for my exchange is unfortunately working a lot, but i have been rostered every single public holiday coming up so i should be getting a good amount of money before i leave!
and you'll be happy to know that after the christmas/new year's period, i'm going to stop working and have a few weeks of rest before i go!! i'm planning on just catching up with friends before i leave, packing and just actually getting a good night's sleep 😂😂
oh, also! i know you wanted little updates about what was going on in my love life, sooooooo... in the time you've been gone, i managed to get a girlfriend!!! i'm very happy and i have no clue what i am doing at all times, but it's good :)
i'm going to send you a little pavlova (a meringue like dessert australians typically have around christmas time, loaded with fruit and cream) and a little iced tea to go with, because my god, is it hot in australia right now. miss you heaps!!! <3

i've been keeping up with eclipse and I love it but I do wonder: if you were chained to a desk and told to write a nico & will book- presumably like rick was- what would that be like? their ending in tower of nero always felt different from the others to me; like everyone else is moving on with their lives and finding their place, but nico and will are still at camp half-blood, and they're both year rounders.
Hi, anon! I'm glad you're loving Eclipse :D I had a lot of fun writing it and the reception it's got so far has been amazing - almost overwhelmingly so, at times, given the amount of people so far who have told me they prefer it to TSATS...
As for what would I write if I was told to write a Solangelo book... I'm actually not going to go into any real detail here because I'm actually working on a new longfic right now which is exactly that - taking the epilogue of TON as it is and drawing that out into a Solangelo-focused quest rather than the detour I took with Eclipse, so hopefully you'll see that appearing in a few months' time :D
I will give a few little hints, though:
More Will-centric plotlines and story. I love Nico, but one of my main issues with the overall TSATS concept long before it was published was that Nico's story arc seemed to be over (he's found his place, he's in therapy etc.) so I wasn't sure what exactly Rick thought he could do with him that didn't ruin what he'd already achieved... Will, on the other hand, has a lot of untapped potential to unlock still, so I want to highlight him a bit more here
Supportive, healthy, Solangelo. I don't believe that you need to put a rift or relationship drama in a story just for the sake of it. We see so much of this healthy support in TOA that I'd love to keep going with that, expanding upon it. That's not to say that they're each other's yes-men, of course, but small disagreements that they resolve with respect for each other's points of view? Always good
Apollo and Hades ares still present and involved. I've actually described working on this plot so far as feeling like I'm having to bat Apollo away with a cardboard tube, because he still doesn't want them to go on a dangerous quest, but also this time I'm not letting him lock them up and go in their place, otherwise that would defeat the whole object of doing a different fic on a similar premise
Plot twists. I'm not saying what they are, but I will say that this quest is probably not going to go the way people think it is - not even Nico and Will!
Regarding your comment about how it feels like all the others are getting on with their lives while Will and Nico are still at camp - Jason's death broke Piper, and Leo's found a family that works better for him than camp did. The likes of Percy and Annabeth are off to university.
But Nico and Will are younger than them. It's difficult to remember at times, especially with Nico because he's been floating in and around the main story since TTC, but as of the end of TOA they're both fifteen, to Percy's nearly eighteen. There's two and a half to three years between them and the original PJO (human) cast, there's about two years between them and the HOO cast - it makes sense that they still have years left at camp. Percy's story as the camp's Big Three Kid has come to an end, and good for him - Nico is now the one stepping up into that role. In many ways, Nico's story, or at least this new, better, chapter of his life, is just beginning. Let him have fun at camp, let him be the child he's suppressed and get up to mischief! Let Will take time to be less responsible, less in charge of not just a full cabin of siblings but also the entire camp's health, and be a child himself. It's true that neither of them will be fully free of their responsibilities, or their trauma, but they've still got so much time to adapt in CHB's understanding environment.
Really, they shouldn't be forced into another Big Thing at all, but we're also looking at the Olympic Revolution looming threateningly in the background, the natural progression that the overarching story Rick's been telling is heading towards, and of course we have this quest teased in TON - which, again, I think should be far more geared towards focusing on Will and his trauma rather than rehashing what we already know and have seen resolved, as much as trauma can ever be resolved, with Nico.
