ok last thing i will say about this but i just. i dunno! i guess i'm just not the target audience for these myth retellings but if the entirety of how a book is pitched to me is "greek myth but make it feminist and queer!" then i just don't care. i don't!! i've read a variety of retellings/adaptations of/stories that incorporate greek myths aimed at different age-level audiences, and if all you've got to pull me in is to make it gay or whatever, that doesn't excite me. unless you're actually going to engage with the material outside of superficially making it gayer or whatever then you're not really adding much to it for me. i can make dionysus and pentheus have raging sparagmos-sex or whatever in my head on my own. give me something i haven't seen before!!!

okay so a while ago i made a post expressing confusion over people shipping s.inclair/k.romer because he held resentment for her killing his family. after finishing canto iii the other reason i'm not a fan of the ship is because he is afraid of her. he sees that view of full body prosthetics as "imperfect" and "unholy" in her and it scares him. he knows it's the minority opinion in his district and he will come under scrutiny especially since his father is a higher ranking employee in k corp. quite bluntly, i don't really see how a healthy relationship could come from a place of such fear and resentment.

A bit premature, but I just imagined Ardyth Heap accidentally into the Riordanverse and ends up in Camp Half-Blood. While everyone is busy trying to figure out who the divine parent of the goat-girl/goat-person is, Asriel’s Chaos Blasting his way through Greco-Roman mythical creatures and deities trying to find her/them.

I like to think of Asriel as a good dad in my stories, so, he would definitely blast through to a different Universe just to find his child.

#i havent been super super bookworm mode since i was in elementary school #i would spend hours in my favorite green armchair in my room #knees tucked underneath myself so much and so often that i permanently warped the chair #don’t get me wrong - i read fanfic almost all the time #ive been reading a prologue fic of a tiktok series im really invested in #and its so well written and pulls such deep emotion out of me that it makes me miss my reading days #tbf tho that could’ve been autism bc I distinctly remember starting a book and finishing it within a day #books were my escape. i had no friends. i wasnt allowed to have friends (more or less) #i couldnt go to anyones house. i had to stay home and do my homework and watch my brothers from a very cery young age #so what else could i do but read my books? read my brothers’ books? steal my mom’s books? #i ended up reading everything in the house #i got so bored and understimulated that i started reading all the mail on the counter #my mom had to start hiding it bc i was so nosy #where the mint grows #i just miss those afternoons spent reading where i feel So Many Emotions inside and time feels like jelly #update I understand why this fic hurts so good - its bc its hitting me right in the mommy issues #thanks! i hate it.

#one person is a coincidence but TWO people leaving comments on it??? it was literally finished like july 2020 #and it would be one thing if they commented on ANY of my more recent works. which is like. Anything that i've written for the witcher #but no it's straight back to the oldest series... strange strange #honestly i have NO idea how that shit holds up now. i felt like it was super rushed and sloppy when i wrote it #esp cause i was thinking up plot as i went so i was constantly frustrated over trying to connect plot threads that i left in the beginning #and forgot #which. i'm still doing now in my current wip. some things never change i guess #but people consistently seem to think i did a good job so either i was really good at bullshitting or the bar is fairly low 😭 #let's hope that 16 yr old me did a good job of representing the rest of us down the line </3 #i would go reread it again for old time's sake but idk if i have 40k worth of old fic reading in me tonight haha #one thing i will say about putting word limits on chapters and just writing until you get there. you end up with rlly nice numbers #anyway. not complaining about the attention! haha :) #valentine notes #fanfic

percy jackson after the second series, and arguably the first (returned after a - well do I even have to say it)

#feel free to reblog/reply and add your own #see redwall never went downhill because all its stories were discrete yet connected to the greater lore #he had weaker books and stronger books but he never destroyed his beloved characters or his overarching worldbuilding #and his commitment to the lore and storytelling was reliable. no weird magical bs. no cash grabs #in the GOGH books there are owls that are straight-up blue. the protag gets married offscreen to some lady #there's so much nonsense that tries desperately to mimic and call back to earlier beloved characters and books #literally reads like bad fanfic. also it's really sad for no reason at all #max ride was never good. I'd like to say I'm giving it credit for attempting to tackle climate change but the books were just SO bloated #with prophecy and nonsense and mystery that never paid off. and the later books were somehow worse #like they were trying to save the world but they didn't and a ton of people died and it didn't matter? ik this was all ghost writers #but jesus christ #and I remember that transphobic joke they made. #pjo was not AS much of a disaster but I hate how they didn't let percy just live his life #and instead had to make hoo the percy adentures: part 2. JUST USE YOUR NEW CHARACTERS #he had so many of them! #hoo was soo bad like the last book sucked severely #I'm sure later books are also not great but I haven't read them #pjo WAS a great series and without a doubt the highest quality kids books on this list #even going downhill it was still leagues above max ride... #I think gogh was not GREAT but it was really fun and original and had some great and memorable scenes. #def more emotionally honest and cohesive and structured than max ride #cor.txt
